- 1:24Speaker 7: in College Station.
- 1:26Speaker 1: All Right, Chip Ower Sports Talk on a Tuesday.
- 1:33Speaker 8: We were talking about this in pre show like we
- 1:36Speaker 8: probably should have done some stretching, got loose because we
- 1:42Speaker 8: got three days.
- 1:44Speaker 9: We got a fill Sports Radio eleven fifty AM, The Zone,
- 1:47Speaker 9: ninety three seven FM, Jason Cornelius, Jared Hicks in for Chip.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Who's out on doing Chip things.
- 1:54Speaker 8: Doing Chip things. I believe just based on the picture
- 1:58Speaker 8: I saw, he was at Bill Oliver lunch today, Okay,
- 2:02Speaker 8: and I'm guessing that was like his last hoorah before
- 2:06Speaker 8: that getting out.
- 2:08Speaker 9: If there is is something that is here, there's a
- 2:14Speaker 9: lot of institutional memory that is slowly walking out of
- 2:18Speaker 9: the door of prime broadcasting. I say slowly some of
- 2:21Speaker 9: fifty Fortnyke. But there's a lot of institutional memory that's leaving.
- 2:25Speaker 8: No there is, I mean, but you start thinking about
- 2:29Speaker 8: I mean, just kind of putting things in perspective. It's
- 2:33Speaker 8: we're talking multi decades.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, I mean, you and I have.
- 2:36Speaker 8: Been doing this for We're in our third deck.
- 2:41Speaker 1: We're on multi decades.
- 2:42Speaker 8: Yeah, some of the some of these luminaries have been
- 2:46Speaker 8: doing that, have done this for five and six decades,
- 2:51Speaker 8: and you know it. Unfortunately it's just that time. But
- 2:57Speaker 8: obviously I'm sure everyone share with the sentiment and enjoy
- 3:02Speaker 8: enjoy the years that you got while you can, because man,
- 3:05Speaker 8: once once you can't move around anymore, it's no bueno.
- 3:08Speaker 9: So so much going on in the world of sports today.
- 3:12Speaker 9: We have ESPN right on right now. Wimbledon is going
- 3:16Speaker 9: on this week. Obviously, World Cup soccer is going on
- 3:19Speaker 9: this week. As we are now in group stages, nuttage,
- 3:24Speaker 9: knockout stage. We're past the group stage. We're back into
- 3:26Speaker 9: knockout stages. Happy to see that like the America has
- 3:30Speaker 9: made its way onto the knockout stage. They play tomorrow.
- 3:36Speaker 9: So many, so many, so many great games going on
- 3:38Speaker 9: right there. I'm trying to figure out. And we we
- 3:41Speaker 9: kind of touched on how, how and when we are
- 3:45Speaker 9: going to dive deep into NBA free agency because and
- 3:51Speaker 9: we've been lucky, you and I that how the NBA
- 3:55Speaker 9: has started. We joked about how the NBA calendar actually works.
- 3:57Speaker 9: But we've been lucky the last couple of years to
- 3:59Speaker 9: be on and kind of during NBA free agency and
- 4:04Speaker 9: because it's obviously in the summer and to have some
- 4:07Speaker 9: stuff to talk about.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And the NBA.
- 4:11Speaker 9: I kind of missed WOJE because it was nice to
- 4:14Speaker 9: see all the woge bombs coming through.
- 4:19Speaker 8: Now he has. Brian Windhorse, I have to say, has
- 4:22Speaker 8: probably been one of the more measured staying on top
- 4:25Speaker 8: of things. He he is out front with when he
- 4:30Speaker 8: has told certain things but cannot attest to the validity
- 4:35Speaker 8: of them.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Uh.
- 4:36Speaker 8: I'm speaking primarily on the whole Yiannis to Boston and
- 4:40Speaker 8: uh Jalen Brown, which that's going to be a whole
- 4:43Speaker 8: topic in and of itself, all the discussion around Jaylen
- 4:47Speaker 8: Brown and and what that what that did. But yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 8: I mean, but if you talk to a number of
- 4:53Speaker 8: the the reporters, especially from the you know, ESPN side,
- 4:58Speaker 8: and especially if they have left esp and are at
- 5:00Speaker 8: other places. Now, you know, wo Wosh had a way
- 5:04Speaker 8: of doing things that really kind of steamrolled some some
- 5:09Speaker 8: guys who were doing it the right way and trying
- 5:11Speaker 8: to come up uh and and make their bones. And
- 5:14Speaker 8: it really wasn't until he stepped away that they were
- 5:16Speaker 8: able to to kind of to come into the limelight.
- 5:18Speaker 8: And and Sean Sharania is definitely one of those guys.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Oh no, he's he is.
- 5:22Speaker 9: He has stepped up huge, uh for in this with
- 5:26Speaker 9: the opportunities got to be the senior NBA correspondent for ESPN.
- 5:31Speaker 8: Sorry, I would hate that lifestyle. I mean, you are
- 5:34Speaker 8: you have what two or three phones by your side
- 5:37Speaker 8: all the time, and if that thing goes off at
- 5:40Speaker 8: three in the morning, you gotta be up and you
- 5:42Speaker 8: gotta be working. I just you next to being a realtor,
- 5:47Speaker 8: I can't imagine, because more miserable.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Because like you you have to like.
- 5:51Speaker 8: I'm not making fun of I just know you got
- 5:53Speaker 8: I know y'all have to kind of be on call.
- 5:56Speaker 8: Like if it's a holiday and a client wants to
- 5:58Speaker 8: go look at a house, you gotta go do it.
- 5:59Speaker 8: I just oh, man, that just seems terrible.
- 6:02Speaker 9: Big thing right now, because again we will we will
- 6:04Speaker 9: dive into World Cup. We will my my pick and
- 6:06Speaker 9: I'm pretty sure I had Germany.
- 6:09Speaker 8: You you had Germany and in one of your picks,
- 6:11Speaker 8: well I had, I had the Netherlands. This is one
- 6:13Speaker 8: of my picks and they're gone. I will tell you, okay.
- 6:16Speaker 8: So just to give everyone an update, because I said
- 6:18Speaker 8: we'd figure out something on how we would do our
- 6:21Speaker 8: draft picks, because we each drafted five teams to follow
- 6:25Speaker 8: in the World Cup. So the way we did the
- 6:27Speaker 8: way I did the scoring on this is four group stages.
- 6:30Speaker 8: It works the same way as it does UH in
- 6:32Speaker 8: the World Cup. You get three points for a win,
- 6:35Speaker 8: one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
- 6:37Speaker 8: You do get one point for every goal scored, and
- 6:40Speaker 8: then you do get an additional point if your team
- 6:43Speaker 8: keeps a clean sheet, i e. You do not let
- 6:45Speaker 8: the other team score on you. So Jason the novice
- 6:51Speaker 8: when it comes to soccer, uh, and I did this.
- 6:54Speaker 8: I did this per match day. Jason came out of
- 6:59Speaker 8: the gate just blistering me because he had Mexico Germany, France,
- 7:04Speaker 8: Argentina and England. All five teams won. Two of those
- 7:08Speaker 8: teams had clean sheets, Mexico and Argentina in that first
- 7:15Speaker 8: that we first week of games, and then of course
- 7:18Speaker 8: Germany scores seven goals in their first match. So Jason
- 7:22Speaker 8: comes out of the gate with thirty six points. I
- 7:26Speaker 8: had Brazil, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Norway. Norway was the
- 7:29Speaker 8: only team who won in week one. Everyone else drew
- 7:35Speaker 8: no one Spain had a clean sheet because that was
- 7:39Speaker 8: a zero zero draw, so I only end up with
- 7:43Speaker 8: sixteen points. The way it is worked out as of
- 7:46Speaker 8: right now, now France has taken the pitch and we'll
- 7:49Speaker 8: turn that game on here in a minute. I have
- 7:52Speaker 8: a one point lead. It is eighty nine to eighty eight.
- 7:54Speaker 8: Because now that we are in the knockout stages, wins
- 7:57Speaker 8: are worth five points. You still get at one point
- 8:01Speaker 8: per goal. So last last or yesterday we both got
- 8:04Speaker 8: one point even though both of our teams got knocked
- 8:07Speaker 8: out because they each scored one goal. And but France
- 8:14Speaker 8: is playing Sweden. I'm I'm worried. I'm worried for my
- 8:19Speaker 8: sanctity because I'm pretty sure Imbappe and Dewali are about
- 8:22Speaker 8: to go off and put up some monster numbers because
- 8:26Speaker 8: it looks like France. France may be the class of
- 8:28Speaker 8: this of this World Cup this time.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I think so they are.
- 8:34Speaker 9: I and and I've been very impressed with with how
- 8:39Speaker 9: Mexico is doing.
- 8:41Speaker 8: I mean, you're picking Mexico incredible. Pick all three group
- 8:48Speaker 8: stage games, multi multi goal games, all shutouts. I when
- 8:54Speaker 8: I saw Mexico play Brazil and the friendly here last summer,
- 8:58Speaker 8: I was not impressed with what I saw. I didn't think.
- 9:00Speaker 8: I didn't and especially kind of leading up. I didn't
- 9:03Speaker 8: necessarily think they had what it was going to take
- 9:05Speaker 8: to make a run. But honestly, they have showed up it.
- 9:09Speaker 8: I'm sure it's helped playing in their country.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you were playing at home.
- 9:14Speaker 8: They've been playing some pretty really exciting YEP football and
- 9:20Speaker 8: so excellent pick by you have a good chance to
- 9:24Speaker 8: get to the round of sixteen. Honestly speaking, no.
- 9:27Speaker 9: And so, but it has. It has been truly exciting
- 9:31Speaker 9: to see how all three host countries have just been.
- 9:38Speaker 9: It's it's been a great tournament so far. The play
- 9:42Speaker 9: on the on the turf, on the grass has been
- 9:46Speaker 9: has been great. You've seen everyone that has come to
- 9:49Speaker 9: North America be like just so excited to be here,
- 9:52Speaker 9: trying all the like. Everything has been great when it
- 9:56Speaker 9: comes to this tournament.
- 9:57Speaker 8: And if there was one place I could have been
- 9:59Speaker 8: today other than right here, it would have been up
- 10:02Speaker 8: in North Texas to be with the Norwegians because that
- 10:05Speaker 8: just seems like one of the funnest groups to be around.
- 10:09Speaker 8: The Dutch would be the other one they lost last night.
- 10:11Speaker 8: I would have loved to have been to have gone
- 10:13Speaker 8: up there, although I've heard if you are not physically fit,
- 10:19Speaker 8: don't just think you can jump in with the Orange Army,
- 10:22Speaker 8: like they were showing some Americans who were like trying
- 10:25Speaker 8: to catch their breath to save their life because they
- 10:28Speaker 8: didn't realize just how much jumping around and moving the
- 10:32Speaker 8: Orange Army does as part of their march to the stadium.
- 10:36Speaker 8: So I'm with you. I've loved every second of all
- 10:42Speaker 8: all the folks coming in the Tartan Army. I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 8: when you out, when you sell more alcohol in one
- 10:52Speaker 8: night then you do the previous two weeks combined, just
- 10:56Speaker 8: because of the Tartan Army, that shows you something.
- 10:58Speaker 9: And I think that and it has been what I
- 11:02Speaker 9: believe the World Cup is meant to be. I believe
- 11:05Speaker 9: what tournaments like the Olympics is meant to be. It
- 11:08Speaker 9: is meant to be a showcase of those coming here,
- 11:12Speaker 9: but also us getting to and since they're coming here,
- 11:15Speaker 9: us getting to learn more about the different cultures and
- 11:18Speaker 9: the different different countries that are coming this way.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And so I like that we are.
- 11:22Speaker 9: Learning so much about a lot of what these other
- 11:25Speaker 9: countries do and what they're able to see. But I
- 11:27Speaker 9: also like, as you're seeing, whether it's news reports or
- 11:32Speaker 9: if you're watching reels or anything like that, of how
- 11:35Speaker 9: interested people like the stadiums that we have. Some of
- 11:39Speaker 9: these countries don't even have one stadium like we have,
- 11:44Speaker 9: and we've got multiple all the way around, and they're
- 11:48Speaker 9: just so impressed with like these giant palaces of stadiums
- 11:53Speaker 9: that we have and we're able to showcase and we
- 11:55Speaker 9: have somebody. So while soccer, world football isn't as big,
- 12:00Speaker 9: and so we're learning how big it is in other countries.
- 12:03Speaker 9: They're they're seeing how big sports are come. I love
- 12:06Speaker 9: seeing them going to baseball games, yeah, and and enjoying.
- 12:09Speaker 8: All that and seeing all I think one of the
- 12:11Speaker 8: coolest things was the fact that, uh, nor you had
- 12:14Speaker 8: the Norway playing up in uh New York, New Jersey,
- 12:18Speaker 8: and you had the Travelers Championship happening in Connecticut, and
- 12:22Speaker 8: Victor Hoblin, who was battling with Scotti Scheffler for all
- 12:26Speaker 8: four days the Norwegian stayed because of the rain delay
- 12:30Speaker 8: on Sunday, the Norwegian, some Norwegians stayed up there so
- 12:34Speaker 8: that they could cheer on their fellow countrymen. And frankly,
- 12:37Speaker 8: I think that's what helped him win. And I'm a
- 12:40Speaker 8: I love Scotti Scheffler, I'm always rooting for him, but
- 12:43Speaker 8: this weekend I was kind of pooling for Victor because
- 12:45Speaker 8: there is nothing cooler than uh those Vikings just cheering
- 12:49Speaker 8: on their their fellow countrymen and doing the row and
- 12:52Speaker 8: and all that kind of stuff. So no, I mean, yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 8: this is this is what the world the World's most
- 13:00Speaker 8: Beautiful Game is all about. Is we all share a passion,
- 13:05Speaker 8: we support our country. But I love the fact that,
- 13:08Speaker 8: you know, the Japanese fans are celebrating with the brazil
- 13:11Speaker 8: fan even after they just lost, and then the brazil
- 13:14Speaker 8: fans are taking them upon themselves to do the Japanese
- 13:16Speaker 8: fan thing about picking up all the crash I mean,
- 13:21Speaker 8: you know, the Tartan army putting traffic cones on all
- 13:26Speaker 8: the statues and all the towns that they're in, and
- 13:29Speaker 8: and people you know, accepting it and understand learning why
- 13:34Speaker 8: they do that kind of thing. I just again, you
- 13:37Speaker 8: got it's hard not to get wrapped up in it.
- 13:39Speaker 8: And it just shows you that at the end of
- 13:42Speaker 8: the day, we all share a passion for sport and
- 13:48Speaker 8: it can be a beautiful thing.
- 13:49Speaker 9: It absolutely can. The one thing that I'm still very
- 13:52Speaker 9: confused on, and that just means we have to do
- 13:55Speaker 9: a better job of exporting what a good is, because
- 14:00Speaker 9: if I hear one more person from another country talk
- 14:03Speaker 9: about how good in and out Burger is, I'm going
- 14:05Speaker 9: to look at my mind.
- 14:06Speaker 8: I agreed. I would also say I love everyone. I
- 14:10Speaker 8: love all the international fans coming in and just being
- 14:13Speaker 8: missed or being blown away by what BUCkies is. But
- 14:16Speaker 8: I've tried to tell a number of them it's like
- 14:19Speaker 8: that's not well, yeah, the barbecue is decent, that's not
- 14:23Speaker 8: real good barbecue. If you're if you're in this state
- 14:26Speaker 8: or if you're in other parts, there's better barbecue. You
- 14:29Speaker 8: should definitely try. But you know it's serviceable. Yeah, that
- 14:34Speaker 8: that would be the that would be my one thing
- 14:36Speaker 8: is uh, I mean I still don't get I guess
- 14:40Speaker 8: with in and out there's just kind of a a
- 14:43Speaker 8: steak to it because you see it in popular culture.
- 14:46Speaker 1: And I get it. It's one of the you you
- 14:48Speaker 1: have to go. But like again, like if you well.
- 14:52Speaker 8: It's like raising canes. I'm sorry. Your sauce should not
- 14:55Speaker 8: be what dictates why your food is good. Yes, the
- 14:58Speaker 8: food itself should be good, right, and that's the.
- 15:00Speaker 9: Way I am with But like I shouldn't have to
- 15:02Speaker 9: get a burger animal animal style or whatever it is
- 15:06Speaker 9: and have all this extra stuff on there.
- 15:09Speaker 8: For for me to enjoy your burger exactly, and that
- 15:11Speaker 8: is I'm fully on board with that and so yeah,
- 15:14Speaker 8: but with that, I will tell you this, if you've
- 15:16Speaker 8: ever had a burger overseas, you can kind of see
- 15:20Speaker 8: why they were just no. I get that.
- 15:23Speaker 9: I've seen some of you see so many things that
- 15:24Speaker 9: people are like, oh my god, like this is the.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Food y'all having over there?
- 15:27Speaker 9: Like I I I have not been lucky enough or
- 15:32Speaker 9: to travel overseas yet, and that's obviously something I would
- 15:35Speaker 9: like to do. But like Yeah, it's if in and
- 15:38Speaker 9: out Burger is the tops of what y'all got. I'm
- 15:41Speaker 9: but I'm also not going to go overseas and get
- 15:43Speaker 9: a burger.
- 15:44Speaker 8: True, but sometimes you're in a train station in York
- 15:49Speaker 8: at nine o'clock at night and you don't have Your
- 15:52Speaker 8: only choice is Burger King or the Halisle stand. And
- 15:57Speaker 8: after looking at the patty on the Burger King sign,
- 15:59Speaker 8: I'm one with the hall. Else, I do not rejoice,
- 16:02Speaker 8: I do not.
- 16:03Speaker 9: Will I will get no meadow. We're gonna take our
- 16:07Speaker 9: first break here. Come back in just a second. I
- 16:09Speaker 9: want to because it just it just happened. And we're
- 16:13Speaker 9: also gonna talk later about Lebron James go over Serena
- 16:17Speaker 9: stepping our falling off short and her abid to come
- 16:20Speaker 9: back here back in just a second. Jason and Jordan
- 16:23Speaker 9: and Jason and Jared.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Oh wow, wow, that is a fine.
- 16:28Speaker 9: Jason and Jared, Wow, Jordan. That hasn't been in more

- 17:35Speaker 11: in what you need from the portal, that is I
- 17:37Speaker 11: think a winning formula.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Well we're gonna find out, but I tell you what
- 17:42Speaker 6: I really like it. I'm looking at the roster breakdown
- 17:46Speaker 6: what they've done in the portal, bringing in guys like
- 17:48Speaker 6: Casey Conceptsi.
- 17:49Speaker 1: On the minute he committed here.
- 17:51Speaker 6: You know, we talked about him because we'd seen play
- 17:53Speaker 6: against Clemson. Yeah, when he's a freshman, you knew that
- 17:56Speaker 6: was a big time guy.
- 17:57Speaker 8: But he did exceed my expectations.
- 17:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't think you gonna be I knew he's
- 18:01Speaker 6: gonna be really good.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 18:03Speaker 6: Have said, oh yeah, he's all American without a doubt.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 6: But we also we were there at missip Sate Mario
- 18:10Speaker 6: Cravy bring him here.
- 18:11Speaker 1: He's really good.
- 18:12Speaker 8: Also exceeded my expectation.
- 18:13Speaker 12: Texacs Live brought to you by David Gardner's Jewelers hang
- 18:16Speaker 12: Out weekdays from eight to eleven on The.
- 18:18Speaker 13: Zone Tuesday afternoon, Chip Howard Sports Talk Sports Radio eleven.
- 18:52Speaker 9: Fifty AM, The Zone ninety three seven FM.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Jason Cornelius, Jared.
- 19:00Speaker 8: Thank you very much.
- 19:03Speaker 9: Oh goodness in for Chip today and so looking at
- 19:10Speaker 9: what just happened in Wimbledon, Wimbledon, excuse me, team Wimbledon.
- 19:16Speaker 9: Knowing that Lebron has chunked up the deuce to the Lakers.
- 19:21Speaker 9: So he's big in news, and we're going to get
- 19:23Speaker 9: into a whole lot of NBA free agency breakdown later
- 19:29Speaker 9: in the show.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I'm just like, so Serena just lost in three.
- 19:33Speaker 9: Sets at Wimbledon in a single in singles, her her
- 19:36Speaker 9: and Venus are are still double partners.
- 19:38Speaker 1: When do they start?
- 19:39Speaker 8: That should be going into this weekend.
- 19:44Speaker 9: I believe anyway, So she's still going to be playing.
- 19:47Speaker 9: Got the three sets and two things on her playing today,
- 19:51Speaker 9: one to get to three sets after not really, I
- 19:54Speaker 9: mean she's played two tournaments up to this, but still
- 19:57Speaker 9: only doubles. This is our first singles attempt since she's
- 20:02Speaker 9: I don't want to say announced to come back, but
- 20:04Speaker 9: since she's coming back right and made it to three sets,
- 20:08Speaker 9: and the first thing about that that was unfortunate. I'm
- 20:12Speaker 9: laughing at it, and I shouldn't be that she she
- 20:14Speaker 9: played Maya joint and as we're walking into the studio,
- 20:19Speaker 9: she win my joint, wins the third set, and like
- 20:22Speaker 9: you could see this look of not regret. It was
- 20:27Speaker 9: not regret, but it was just this look of she
- 20:32Speaker 9: knew that everybody, nobody in that in that on that
- 20:35Speaker 9: stage was rooting for her, other than the people that
- 20:37Speaker 9: came there to root for her.
- 20:40Speaker 8: I mean, you you you said it best. I mean,
- 20:43Speaker 8: she was in a no win situation, no matter how
- 20:46Speaker 8: you look at this because if she if she loses
- 20:49Speaker 8: to Serena, you lose to a forty four year old mother,
- 20:53Speaker 8: mother who has not played singles tennis in four years. Yep,
- 21:03Speaker 8: I mean it. And you you lose in the early
- 21:07Speaker 8: round of Wimbledon, So I mean, you know, you're done
- 21:10Speaker 8: with with over two weeks ago. If you win, you
- 21:13Speaker 8: kind of kill what might be an an a good
- 21:18Speaker 8: comeback story. But ultimately, for the majority of of of
- 21:23Speaker 8: Timmis tennis commentators, there weren't high expectations for Serena simply
- 21:30Speaker 8: because her the length away from the game, the uh
- 21:34Speaker 8: from playing at a competitive level, her age, obviously, the
- 21:39Speaker 8: youth that you're going up against, because I mean, you see,
- 21:41Speaker 8: I mean you see this definitely on the men's side
- 21:43Speaker 8: as well, that despite the fact that you you had
- 21:47Speaker 8: the the generation of Federer and uh Nadal and then
- 21:54Speaker 8: Jokich comes up and those three guys, I mean, and
- 21:57Speaker 8: what's crazy is while those three guys are all considered
- 22:01Speaker 8: part of the same generation, there's almost five years difference
- 22:04Speaker 8: between them, and so you almost have a decade's worth
- 22:08Speaker 8: of distance between Federer and Djokich, who potentially this go
- 22:14Speaker 8: round may have a chance to win Wimbledon because the
- 22:17Speaker 8: younger talent that it's expected to win is injured and
- 22:21Speaker 8: cannot compete in it. But with Serena, you know this,
- 22:25Speaker 8: they've talked about, you know, the parallels between say Serena
- 22:31Speaker 8: and Lebron and Tom Brady and the highly competitive athletes,
- 22:36Speaker 8: like are you doing this because you just want to
- 22:40Speaker 8: see if you can? Or are you doing this because
- 22:43Speaker 8: you don't know any you know anything else. You get
- 22:45Speaker 8: into that regular life and it's like the excitement is
- 22:48Speaker 8: not there. What I'm used to is the high stakes
- 22:53Speaker 8: level of competition and if I'm not experiencing that, I
- 22:57Speaker 8: just don't feel like I'm living well.
- 22:58Speaker 9: They talked about that with with and and you still
- 23:01Speaker 9: see that with with Michael Jordan, and that was part
- 23:06Speaker 9: of why and him, any normal person walks away on
- 23:14Speaker 9: the on the follow through that shot in ninety seven
- 23:18Speaker 9: when he makes the three pointer over Brian Russell and
- 23:22Speaker 9: to win the championship, that is the moment you leave.
- 23:26Speaker 1: But he couldn't, like, he couldn't step away from it.
- 23:29Speaker 9: And they talked about it with with him, and and
- 23:34Speaker 9: it's even why he and Charles Barkley couldn't talk for
- 23:37Speaker 9: years is because of the competitive nature that he had
- 23:39Speaker 9: with basketball even in the ownership and when it wasn't
- 23:42Speaker 9: going well, and Charles called him out for that.
- 23:44Speaker 1: That that ended their relationship for years.
- 23:47Speaker 9: And Michael's even said now like he's finding the joy
- 23:52Speaker 9: of sports as it more of an Yes, he's an
- 23:55Speaker 9: orner above the of the fandom of it, and race
- 23:58Speaker 9: and NASCAR.
- 24:00Speaker 8: A lot of that. You know, listening to that the
- 24:02Speaker 8: interview he did with Gayo Kane, which by the way,
- 24:05Speaker 8: was so much better than the interview with Mecturico, I
- 24:10Speaker 8: don't know, man, you take a one hour interview and
- 24:12Speaker 8: you stretch it out over an entire NBA season, That's
- 24:15Speaker 8: just wow. Anyway, the what he talked about is the
- 24:18Speaker 8: fact when it comes to basketball, when he walks into
- 24:22Speaker 8: a basketball arena, it's I'm not being sacrilegious here, I'm
- 24:28Speaker 8: just paraphrasing. It's like a god has walked for and
- 24:34Speaker 8: so because everyone looks at him like that, Whereas when
- 24:40Speaker 8: he's on pitt Row at a NASCAR race, he's just Michael,
- 24:45Speaker 8: and he's relaxed, and he's comfortable and and people he's
- 24:50Speaker 8: taken pictures with people.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he looks like he is actually enjoyed.
- 24:53Speaker 8: Enjoying it because it's a it's a sport growing up
- 24:58Speaker 8: he loved.
- 24:59Speaker 1: He had We talked about that North Carolina is.
- 25:03Speaker 8: It's what Texas high school football, or it's what high
- 25:05Speaker 8: school football is for Texas is stock car racing. But yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 8: I mean, you know that that competitive nature. And I mean,
- 25:13Speaker 8: I'm certain you know we can. I don't want to
- 25:16Speaker 8: get too far into the weeds the whole gambling thing,
- 25:18Speaker 8: but you know that's part of it as well, just
- 25:20Speaker 8: just everything has to have stakes to it. And you know,
- 25:24Speaker 8: you you talk, I mean, also talk about Kobe. I mean,
- 25:28Speaker 8: you can make an argument Kobe probably played at least two,
- 25:31Speaker 8: if not three years beyond what he should have and
- 25:36Speaker 8: and and so you kind of there to be at
- 25:41Speaker 8: that high level, to be the top of the sport,
- 25:46Speaker 8: you have to have a certain mindset and obviously you
- 25:49Speaker 8: can't just switch that off once your body tells you, hey,
- 25:55Speaker 8: you can't do this anymore.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Well, and and that's been the other part of it.
- 25:58Speaker 9: And why like I think this is so interesting to
- 26:01Speaker 9: me even with her, but yeah, with Lebron and he
- 26:05Speaker 9: maybe the anomaly of all anomalies because Serena so she
- 26:11Speaker 9: hadn't played in four years, so that would have been
- 26:12Speaker 9: her like when she was turning forty, and even though
- 26:16Speaker 9: she was was at a high level, but she was
- 26:19Speaker 9: not the best that she.
- 26:20Speaker 8: Had already kind of begun the slide down. She would
- 26:24Speaker 8: make it to quarterfinals, semi finals, and even some finals,
- 26:28Speaker 8: but then going up against younger, faster talent, she would
- 26:32Speaker 8: have issues.
- 26:33Speaker 9: And I'm not trying as I'm saying this and that
- 26:36Speaker 9: I'm thinking about it, I'm like, no one right now
- 26:38Speaker 9: would say also say that Lebron is the best player
- 26:43Speaker 9: in the league, but he's like, there's not a if.
- 26:49Speaker 8: You can't yeah, I think I know the roads you're
- 26:52Speaker 8: going at. You can't deny that what he's been able
- 26:56Speaker 8: to do year after year, even if he is the
- 27:01Speaker 8: quote third best player on a team in twenty twenty five,
- 27:07Speaker 8: but he still put you know, still averaging thirty points
- 27:09Speaker 8: a game, ten rebounds, you know, almost tennis.
- 27:14Speaker 9: Is And I think that's the funny thing, the funny
- 27:17Speaker 9: part about it with him. People were saying he was
- 27:19Speaker 9: the third best player on the team or was he
- 27:22Speaker 9: just the third option, because I don't think he was
- 27:24Speaker 9: the third best player on that team.
- 27:25Speaker 8: No, No, I mean, obviously without him, and especially anytime
- 27:29Speaker 8: you know, Luca was out or when Austin Reeves was out,
- 27:32Speaker 8: that team didn't have a prayer.
- 27:34Speaker 1: And yet he was also late.
- 27:36Speaker 9: You saw it like when they and they went on
- 27:37Speaker 9: that run and he took a step back, but also
- 27:41Speaker 9: like they don't win that series without without him, No,
- 27:44Speaker 9: and he's and so yeah, and it's just those things
- 27:47Speaker 9: like where does how does that? How does that translate?
- 27:51Speaker 9: And you and I've I've talked to friends, you watch
- 27:54Speaker 9: the the the the stories of that that trendsit and
- 27:59Speaker 9: I and I will say this very very lightly. I
- 28:03Speaker 9: am not comparing it to the military, but there is
- 28:08Speaker 9: that that transition of I've done this thing, and I've
- 28:12Speaker 9: done it well, and it is hard to transfer back
- 28:15Speaker 9: to civilian life.
- 28:17Speaker 8: I think. I think the big difference is the individuality
- 28:24Speaker 8: that comes with playing tennis, whereas with Lebron and being
- 28:27Speaker 8: being part of a team, you can and obviously over
- 28:31Speaker 8: time you learn how to expand your game to fit
- 28:34Speaker 8: within a system, whereas in tennis it is you against
- 28:38Speaker 8: someone else exactly, and more importantly, you are by yourself.
- 28:43Speaker 8: You are not being you're not being coached. There's no
- 28:46Speaker 8: necessarily a time out and you know, readjust and all
- 28:48Speaker 8: kinds of things. It is it is just you and
- 28:51Speaker 8: that that loneliness that comes from playing that sport for
- 28:55Speaker 8: so long. And I'm again, I'm not trying to get
- 28:59Speaker 8: into the psyche's arena Williams, other than the fact of
- 29:01Speaker 8: if she may have just been wanting to see can
- 29:04Speaker 8: I do this because she I mean, she's still in
- 29:06Speaker 8: phenomenal shape.
- 29:07Speaker 14: Yep.
- 29:08Speaker 8: She she looked like somebody was taken. She's taking excellent
- 29:12Speaker 8: care of her body. I mean, she ra she's kind
- 29:17Speaker 8: of like Tiger Woods from the standpoint she took that
- 29:19Speaker 8: sport and said, look, if you want, if you're gonna
- 29:22Speaker 8: play with me, you're gonna have to be bigger, faster
- 29:25Speaker 8: and stronger because this is this is my workout regiment
- 29:28Speaker 8: and this is how I'm going to be able to
- 29:31Speaker 8: serve at one hundred and twenty miles an hour consistently
- 29:33Speaker 8: for over a decade.
- 29:35Speaker 9: So yeah, it was it was great to see her
- 29:37Speaker 9: out there. And when you when you mentioned like what
- 29:40Speaker 9: for for tennis, it is you against somebody else, and
- 29:43Speaker 9: I talked about how you you can't hide and with
- 29:46Speaker 9: Lebron like you could even see there were possessions of
- 29:48Speaker 9: things with Lebron, like his IQ and knowledge helped him
- 29:54Speaker 9: not necessarily hide, but adjust what was going on to
- 29:57Speaker 9: where he could play longer and play in those games.
- 30:00Speaker 9: And I'm wondering as I'm saying this, how it's going
- 30:02Speaker 9: to be seeing Serena and Venus in a doubles match,
- 30:06Speaker 9: and I think that will allow them to be more
- 30:08Speaker 9: successful than either of them have been individually trying to
- 30:11Speaker 9: play because you can't like you can play off someone
- 30:14Speaker 9: a little bit better.
- 30:15Speaker 8: Yeah, no, I agree. I mean again, you're still going
- 30:18Speaker 8: to be talking about two middle forty ish old players.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Well what Venus is forty six?
- 30:25Speaker 9: Forty seven? Now Venus is forty four. Yeah that's but
- 30:29Speaker 9: I can see them winning at least one, maybe two rounds.
- 30:32Speaker 8: Of the doubles on or two. But yeah, but I
- 30:34Speaker 8: mean I can't it well. And it's kind of like
- 30:37Speaker 8: when whenever Tiger would play or play in a tournament,
- 30:40Speaker 8: even though you knew physically there's no way he's going
- 30:43Speaker 8: to win, You're still excited to watch.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Probably reminds you absolutely seeing those highlights. I was like,
- 30:48Speaker 1: oh she really did look especially that second set.
- 30:50Speaker 8: Well, you know again, are you got the World Cup
- 30:53Speaker 8: going on. Are you're really going to be watching a
- 30:54Speaker 8: first round Wimbledon match?
- 30:57Speaker 9: Normally say no, normally not, but that one definitely got
- 31:00Speaker 9: We're gonna take another break.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Come back here in just a second.

- 34:17Speaker 9: Sports Radio eleven your damn the Zone ninety seven FM
- 34:20Speaker 9: and I'm back.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Good job there, you know, you know, Jason Jared here
- 34:25Speaker 1: on a Tuesday, So.
- 34:26Speaker 8: I have to thank you because that one video or
- 34:28Speaker 8: that one reel you sent me of the guy listening
- 34:32Speaker 8: in the car is like, uh, it's nineteen ninety six.
- 34:36Speaker 8: This just came on. That has now that influenced my
- 34:40Speaker 8: algorithm for like two or three days, which was kind
- 34:43Speaker 8: of nice. Got gotta gotta kind of clean it out
- 34:47Speaker 8: after a while, because man, the world kept fans. Man,
- 34:51Speaker 8: you start liking some of those and it starts, oh yeah,
- 34:54Speaker 8: sending you all of.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Them all over the place. When it comes to that.
- 34:57Speaker 8: Get you in trouble with the wife. There was some
- 35:01Speaker 8: great international fans. I'm just anyway, but yeah, that made
- 35:07Speaker 8: me think back to all the ninety seven to nine
- 35:10Speaker 8: in the box tracks from that that ninety seven to
- 35:15Speaker 8: around two thousand and one, and that's basically once I
- 35:18Speaker 8: guess that's when terrestrial radio kind of got turned off
- 35:21Speaker 8: and started doing the definitely doing the burn CDs.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's well.
- 35:30Speaker 9: Dating myself a little bit also because that's when burn
- 35:33Speaker 9: CDs was. I remember like when A and M in
- 35:37Speaker 9: the computer labs had CD ReadWrite drives. Oh, I was
- 35:42Speaker 9: in there non stop burning CDs.
- 35:44Speaker 8: So I forget was it a Sony or Pioneer, I
- 35:48Speaker 8: can't remember. But I finally got a twelve disc changer
- 35:54Speaker 8: that had MP three reading capability, so instead of the
- 35:59Speaker 8: standard betwelve fourteen tracks, you could just load up a
- 36:03Speaker 8: CDR W with and so basically had the entire my
- 36:07Speaker 8: entire m P three library in my truck at one
- 36:09Speaker 8: point in time and just skip skip skip skip skip
- 36:12Speaker 8: skip the next one, skip skip there it is.
- 36:15Speaker 1: That's what I'm looking for all that looking for one.
- 36:20Speaker 8: Kids, y'all. Y'all have no clue how hard it used
- 36:23Speaker 8: to be to find something to listen to, like while driving.
- 36:28Speaker 8: You think looking at the phone is dangerous? No, No,
- 36:32Speaker 8: The binder with four CDs, which you have doubles, double
- 36:38Speaker 8: flipping through, finding it, ejecting, putting in the new one,
- 36:42Speaker 8: waiting for to low. Yeah, y'all got no clue how.
- 36:44Speaker 9: Danger And it's the funny thing about that is like
- 36:47Speaker 9: the we I don't know because you see the reels
- 36:50Speaker 9: or you see the jokes about like I don't think
- 36:51Speaker 9: people like younger kids that they understand the size of
- 36:55Speaker 9: those CD binders like they were gy I had like
- 37:01Speaker 9: the three ring like the three I know they make,
- 37:04Speaker 9: but because we buy West is like three inch is
- 37:07Speaker 9: typically like the largest, Like no, these are like five
- 37:10Speaker 9: inch ring binders full of just CD after countless CD
- 37:15Speaker 9: and then again once you got to the time that
- 37:18Speaker 9: you could burn yours own. That's why you need the
- 37:20Speaker 9: bigger one because you buy these, but then you had
- 37:21Speaker 9: your mixing, like it was just crazy.
- 37:24Speaker 8: I can't say Peyton. I'm sure West is kind of
- 37:26Speaker 8: the same way Peyton's binder for school. That thing is
- 37:30Speaker 8: comparable as far as side, but weight.
- 37:33Speaker 9: Goes yeah, yeah, because yeah, Peyton's over, She's gonna she's
- 37:37Speaker 9: as the street now.
- 37:40Speaker 1: But so do they have did they have the the
- 37:42Speaker 1: an oak?
- 37:43Speaker 9: I can't remember if Wesley had like the you had
- 37:45Speaker 9: to have it's basically like a briefcase binder.
- 37:47Speaker 8: That yeah, but she I mean she kept it in
- 37:49Speaker 8: her backpack, but her I mean along with I can't
- 37:53Speaker 8: tell you how many other like books. I felt bad.
- 37:55Speaker 8: It's like, girl, do you really have to carry this round?
- 37:57Speaker 8: And yeah, because even though you get assigned a locker,
- 38:01Speaker 8: cannot go to your locker.
- 38:02Speaker 9: No, it is and and it's I think it's I
- 38:05Speaker 9: think it'll be a little bit better because we noticed
- 38:08Speaker 9: that at Oakwood too, like West is like was nowhere
- 38:11Speaker 9: near anything, and so I think it's a little bit
- 38:13Speaker 9: better at.
- 38:14Speaker 8: What I can't imagine because you and I know this
- 38:18Speaker 8: growing up, if you had if you still had textbooks,
- 38:25Speaker 8: I mean just the sheer, the sheer weight of having
- 38:30Speaker 8: because you know, especially at consult, if you're if your
- 38:34Speaker 8: locker was in a certain area, you're carrying three textbooks
- 38:37Speaker 8: with you because you're not going to have time to
- 38:38Speaker 8: go back.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Yep, at least three out of yourself.
- 38:41Speaker 8: Yeah, you got those three pleasure binder errors. That backpack
- 38:46Speaker 8: is probably weighing a good thirty pounds.
- 38:49Speaker 9: I can't like and it just like so like the
- 38:53Speaker 9: the English or the literature books were like this thing.
- 38:56Speaker 9: It's people can't see what going be like like three
- 39:00Speaker 9: inches thick for that for for a book that size.
- 39:02Speaker 17: And then you've got hardcover, by the way, hardcover and
- 39:07Speaker 17: like and I'm saying with the with the butter with
- 39:10Speaker 17: the er crossed out crust uh book cover on it, with.
- 39:15Speaker 9: The book covering, but no, like the and we talked, Man,
- 39:18Speaker 9: I understand it. Now we talk about the the weight
- 39:21Speaker 9: of kids backpacks. But I'm looking back, I'm like, what
- 39:24Speaker 9: we didn't have a like no, because you heaven forbid,
- 39:28Speaker 9: you don't go to your class without that particular textbook
- 39:31Speaker 9: because you were going to get in trouble for that,
- 39:33Speaker 9: whether we were using it that day.
- 39:35Speaker 8: Or or not. And of course we didn't have the
- 39:39Speaker 8: Now we'll say this, we didn't have the giant steel
- 39:43Speaker 8: stanley or a wall of water jugs.
- 39:47Speaker 9: Oh my carry no, ye you you had to you
- 39:50Speaker 9: had to decide whether you were going to get water
- 39:53Speaker 9: or going to your locker, because you weren't doing both,
- 39:55Speaker 9: you both not in.
- 39:57Speaker 8: The man, I can't even fathom like the idea of
- 40:00Speaker 8: bringing water into a classroom because.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Oh, you couldn't.
- 40:04Speaker 9: You couldn't, You absolutely couldn't. Even like if you if
- 40:06Speaker 9: you had a cup or like if they were I don't.
- 40:08Speaker 9: I mean the thermost is that like you couldn't bring
- 40:11Speaker 9: it out like that stays in your locker also, and
- 40:14Speaker 9: like yeah, that when we it was it was when
- 40:18Speaker 9: Wesley was starting elementary and they were like the the
- 40:22Speaker 9: water bottle was a requirement, like it was on the
- 40:25Speaker 9: list of things to bring. And I'm like, wait a minute,
- 40:28Speaker 9: what like this is no, you have to make sure
- 40:30Speaker 9: and there's a particular time when they go and fill
- 40:32Speaker 9: it up, and huh and and all of these things
- 40:34Speaker 9: like this is real life what they do now. It
- 40:37Speaker 9: is a requirement to have.
- 40:38Speaker 1: That on there.
- 40:39Speaker 8: I mean, I'm appreciative because I remember when I was
- 40:42Speaker 8: growing up, even though I was probably told to drink
- 40:45Speaker 8: plenty of water, never really did drink way too many cokes.
- 40:50Speaker 9: I'm very like, so I am very lucky the little
- 40:53Speaker 9: like they do not drink a lot of soda.
- 40:56Speaker 8: I say, And I haven't met like other other than
- 40:59Speaker 8: like restaurants ours are pretty good about that too. It's
- 41:03Speaker 8: it's it's especially with Peyton, it's you gotta drink more
- 41:06Speaker 8: like during the day, just keep just keep drinking.
- 41:09Speaker 9: Yeah, and that yeah, that's it, and that that's a
- 41:11Speaker 9: big thing. I because for me it was always like
- 41:14Speaker 9: I still buy tons of orange juice and that. Like
- 41:16Speaker 9: they're like, no it is They're filling up their water bottle.
- 41:20Speaker 8: And I'm like the only one in my house that
- 41:23Speaker 8: drinks milk. But oh yeah, but I'm still buying the
- 41:27Speaker 8: three gallons a week for just for you, just about
- 41:31Speaker 8: for me.
- 41:32Speaker 9: Okay, because that's me on oysters because I'm the only
- 41:34Speaker 9: one drinking Oorstes and yeah me, I buy the big
- 41:36Speaker 9: three gallons of of that. But yeah, it's so it
- 41:38Speaker 9: is so weird how much weight goes into those backpacks.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Again, going back to.
- 41:45Speaker 9: What started this off for us of how big o
- 41:47Speaker 9: CD binders yea had to be because again you didn't
- 41:51Speaker 9: have Spotify and or the game.
- 41:54Speaker 8: I would say the game changer was the Visor CD holder. No,
- 42:00Speaker 8: that was that was basically your top ten now was
- 42:02Speaker 8: your top ten of course, never factoring in are you
- 42:09Speaker 8: doing damage to those and in your hot car in
- 42:12Speaker 8: Texas Sun until we tried to take Anne's off of
- 42:16Speaker 8: her Ford Explorer and I think three of those CD
- 42:21Speaker 8: then they were CDRs, those that pretty well melted into
- 42:25Speaker 8: the fabric.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I know we have.
- 42:29Speaker 9: We have ranted on about nonsense for for long enough.
- 42:32Speaker 9: We're gonna take a break. Come back, We'll get back

- 43:52Speaker 18: The Houston Astros struggled by giving up the long ball
- 43:54Speaker 18: as the Minnesota Twins got the win last night by
- 43:57Speaker 18: a final score of five to four. The first three
- 43:59Speaker 18: innings were Wyatt until Minnesota struck first in the top
- 44:02Speaker 18: fourth with back to back homers from Victor Karantining and
- 44:04Speaker 18: Royce Lewis for a two to nothing lead. Cam Smith
- 44:07Speaker 18: would knock one over the fence to cut the lead
- 44:09Speaker 18: in half in the fifth, but the Twins responded immediately
- 44:11Speaker 18: with another solo homer in the sixth, followed Blaye insurance
- 44:14Speaker 18: running the seventh. Houston didn't go down easy as Taylor
- 44:16Speaker 18: Tremmell hit this two run homer in the bottom ninth
- 44:18Speaker 18: with two outs.
- 44:19Speaker 15: Pay offul the way and Trammel scolds this down the

- 44:25Speaker 11: That is fair and that is a two run homer
- 44:28Speaker 11: for Taylor Trammell.
- 44:30Speaker 18: That wouldn't be all as camp Smith homered right behind him,
- 44:32Speaker 18: but the Twins somehow held on for the one run win.

- 46:29Speaker 9: CD binders.
- 46:33Speaker 8: Speaking of racks, let's talk World Cup for a second.
- 46:38Speaker 8: So right now, France and Sweden. Oh, France just scored.
- 46:42Speaker 8: Look at you, got you a goal just before halftime.
- 46:46Speaker 8: By the way, earlier today Norway won their first knockout
- 46:55Speaker 8: match in a long time. They scored today, which is
- 47:03Speaker 8: their first time they have scored a World Cup knockout
- 47:06Speaker 8: goal since nineteen thirty eight. The scorer of that goal
- 47:10Speaker 8: in nineteen thirty eight was Arnie Brustaud, who was born
- 47:15Speaker 8: on the same day that the Titanics truck an iceberg
- 47:18Speaker 8: in the Atlantic Ocean. Oh wow, that's a long time ago.
- 47:24Speaker 8: And now with Earling Holland, they are like ace. I
- 47:28Speaker 8: mean honestly this year or this World Cup probably looking
- 47:35Speaker 8: and especially based on how their where they sit, they're
- 47:38Speaker 8: part of the bracket, probably looking at a quarterfinal. I
- 47:41Speaker 8: don't know if they've got enough to make a semifinal.
- 47:43Speaker 8: But with Earling Holland, he may and Imbape may overtake
- 47:49Speaker 8: Messi for most World Cup goal goals at this World Cup,
- 47:56Speaker 8: but I think Earling Holland may end up doing it
- 47:59Speaker 8: over the course of his career because the he is,
- 48:02Speaker 8: he is the Norwegian Megatron, is just scary, big yeah,
- 48:06Speaker 8: and can score anyway. And he got a he got
- 48:09Speaker 8: a nice, just easy goal today because he's always in
- 48:13Speaker 8: the right place at the right time. You.
- 48:16Speaker 9: I mean, the World Cup has been so like we
- 48:19Speaker 9: talked about to start, the show has been so fantastic,
- 48:22Speaker 9: and now that we are in the knockout stages, because
- 48:24Speaker 9: and that's one thing I don't think, at least I
- 48:27Speaker 9: had heard that because there were more teams involved, that
- 48:32Speaker 9: it may water it down some and I don't think
- 48:35Speaker 9: that has been the case at all.
- 48:37Speaker 8: I don't. I don't either. I mean, yeah, you had
- 48:41Speaker 8: some you had some countries, especially in the group stages,
- 48:44Speaker 8: that uh just kind of seemed they were they were
- 48:48Speaker 8: happy to be here. Looking at you, Tunisia, you know
- 48:52Speaker 8: you fire. I mean, you come to the World Cup,
- 48:55Speaker 8: you lose your first match and you fire your coach.
- 48:57Speaker 8: That I don't know what you're hoping to achieve by
- 49:00Speaker 8: doing that, but whatever. But now, I mean, look at
- 49:04Speaker 8: even though they lost today, Ivory Coast or Cote Devoirs,
- 49:09Speaker 8: they should be referred to had a stellar run through this.
- 49:15Speaker 8: We're gonna see Cape Verde, I believe tomorrow, no on Friday.
- 49:24Speaker 8: Now that granted they're gonna have to play Argentina. But
- 49:27Speaker 8: you know again, this is why you play the matches.
- 49:30Speaker 8: Because yesterday, I promise you this. I promise you this.
- 49:33Speaker 8: There were people I don't know if they were in
- 49:35Speaker 8: the United States, they definitely weren't in Germany. But I
- 49:37Speaker 8: promise you there were people around the world who felt
- 49:40Speaker 8: who went ahead and just said I'm going to sleep
- 49:42Speaker 8: through Germany Paraguay because there's no way Germany loses this
- 49:46Speaker 8: one thing that you ended and if you did, you
- 49:49Speaker 8: missed an all time classic Hill, the goalkeeper for Paraguay,
- 49:55Speaker 8: was just incredible for almost three hours of competition. So no, yeah,
- 50:05Speaker 8: there were there were obviously, just kind of like with
- 50:08Speaker 8: the NC Double A, because you know, with the men's tournament,
- 50:11Speaker 8: you kind of like the Cinderella stories, but by the
- 50:13Speaker 8: time you get to you know, the Sweet sixteen and
- 50:16Speaker 8: then to the Elite eate, that's when you want your
- 50:18Speaker 8: blue bud blue bloods. You want your big your big
- 50:21Speaker 8: powerhouses because you want to see some real competitive basketball.
- 50:25Speaker 8: But with this you're seeing it in just about every
- 50:27Speaker 8: every well.
- 50:29Speaker 9: And the difference between the n C Double A allowing
- 50:34Speaker 9: more teams into their tournament and the World Cup, it
- 50:40Speaker 9: like the World Cup isn't allowing USA's fourth team in
- 50:45Speaker 9: versus in another country that truly wants to be there.
- 50:48Speaker 9: If the n C Double A would would would allow
- 50:50Speaker 9: that to be what you would hope that it would
- 50:52Speaker 9: be on paper that more more mid major teams, other
- 50:57Speaker 9: teams that wouldn't normally get in would get in.
- 51:00Speaker 1: That would be one thing, But we know.
- 51:01Speaker 9: It's going to be the thirteenth SEC team that's going
- 51:05Speaker 9: to get in versus something like that. So that's why
- 51:07Speaker 9: I'm glad we're seeing this come to fruition and World
- 51:10Speaker 9: Cup that each of these teams that may not have
- 51:13Speaker 9: gotten in have either put on a show or exceeded
- 51:19Speaker 9: expectations are continuing like it's been a great tournament so far.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Well.
- 51:24Speaker 8: And I mean, you know, FIFA has largely had this
- 51:27Speaker 8: eurocentric philosophy forever and obviously because that's where the game
- 51:34Speaker 8: originated from. But the fact of the matter is when
- 51:37Speaker 8: you see as many of the African nations make it
- 51:41Speaker 8: to the knockout exactly that you saw this year. You know,
- 51:43Speaker 8: South America has always been strong. Asia is still kind
- 51:47Speaker 8: of coming along, but they could be formidable. A lot
- 51:52Speaker 8: of that just always kind of comes down to the
- 51:54Speaker 8: draw and things like that. You know, I hate say it.
- 51:59Speaker 8: Canada is kind of lucky that they made it to
- 52:01Speaker 8: the knockout stage and more so that they they won yesterday.
- 52:05Speaker 8: But that just again shows you that the western Western
- 52:08Speaker 8: hemisphere can play soccer just like the Southern hemisphere or
- 52:11Speaker 8: inspect And I'm going back to that to the Afcan
- 52:14Speaker 8: nations because you know, that's largely been a neglected group
- 52:18Speaker 8: from the World Cup and you're you're seeing it because
- 52:22Speaker 8: they've got speed, they've got talent. A lot of those
- 52:24Speaker 8: players are playing in in the international clubs and they
- 52:28Speaker 8: can play at a high level. You've got you just
- 52:31Speaker 8: have to expand expand the tournament to allow for more
- 52:35Speaker 8: teams to come in.
- 52:36Speaker 9: I think what we're seeing in that also, and I'm
- 52:39Speaker 9: glad you pointed out that that FIFA has a eurocentric
- 52:45Speaker 9: viewpoint on all that, and I think that is unfortunately
- 52:48Speaker 9: because of the clubs, the club sports and the club teams,
- 52:53Speaker 9: because there there's no way that you can't say that
- 52:57Speaker 9: either the Premier League or or or Bundesliga or any
- 53:03Speaker 9: of the year in your Euro club club sports over there,
- 53:08Speaker 9: club soccer over there is not superior across the board
- 53:14Speaker 9: no matter what.
- 53:15Speaker 8: Well I mean just again, what is the major television
- 53:20Speaker 8: dollars in the United States goes to what NFL in
- 53:26Speaker 8: comparison what Premier League gets globally, what Champions League. So
- 53:32Speaker 8: you're getting the best of the best in Europe gets globally.
- 53:36Speaker 8: That makes the NFL like a dwarf, I meant dwarfs
- 53:41Speaker 8: it and that's because it is this is the global
- 53:45Speaker 8: game that more people watch. I mean, MATC. Imagine taking
- 53:53Speaker 8: those penalty kicks yesterday, not not only knowing that this
- 53:57Speaker 8: has been what you've been working for your whole life.
- 53:59Speaker 8: You are you are playing for your country on the
- 54:01Speaker 8: biggest stage. You are playing in front of a stadium
- 54:05Speaker 8: now with you know, somewhere between sixty to eighty thousand
- 54:08Speaker 8: inside of it, and you've got probably close to a
- 54:12Speaker 8: billion people around the world watching. I mean that's you
- 54:16Speaker 8: know average, even even the Super Bowl, the most you're
- 54:20Speaker 8: you're hoping to get with that as one hundred and
- 54:21Speaker 8: fifty million on television.
- 54:24Speaker 9: Can you just and and that is the obviously we
- 54:28Speaker 9: know that, like because we've been on Super Bowl Sunday
- 54:30Speaker 9: is now become like the epitome of like it's the
- 54:35Speaker 9: mountaintop of sports sports watching.
- 54:38Speaker 1: In the in the in the States and the States,
- 54:40Speaker 1: and like.
- 54:41Speaker 9: And you're right, like that that doesn't even compare to
- 54:46Speaker 9: a Champions League final globally and everybody wanting to watch
- 54:51Speaker 9: that and what that means.
- 54:52Speaker 8: Well, I mean, just to put this in perspective, So
- 54:56Speaker 8: when we had the Argentina Ondurs match at Kyle Field,
- 55:01Speaker 8: I was on campus for my rotary conference and I
- 55:05Speaker 8: went for a run that morning. So I'm running pre
- 55:07Speaker 8: six am. They already had security guards posted at every
- 55:12Speaker 8: entrance to Kyle Field pre six am because they know,
- 55:17Speaker 8: based on what happened in Miami the year before at
- 55:19Speaker 8: the Gold Gold Cup match with Ecuador, people will try
- 55:24Speaker 8: to sneak in any way they can. I'm not saying
- 55:28Speaker 8: that doesn't happen in the NFL, but largely you you're
- 55:31Speaker 8: not hearing about that on a even for the Super Bowl,
- 55:34Speaker 8: that there are fans crawling through the air ducts of
- 55:37Speaker 8: you know, Levi Stadium or whatever, or you know, Mercedes
- 55:41Speaker 8: Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
- 55:44Speaker 1: But that's not stadium.
- 55:45Speaker 9: I know.
- 55:46Speaker 14: I know.
- 55:46Speaker 8: I was about to say FIFA, you know, Farantino was
- 55:49Speaker 8: about to land on top of Crystal Park Claza because
- 55:52Speaker 8: I'm calling it Chillette Stadium instead of Boston Stadium, despite
- 55:55Speaker 8: the facts in it's in Foxboro, which is forty five
- 55:57Speaker 8: minutes outside of Boston, and there's nowhere near anything close
- 56:01Speaker 8: that you would want to ever do when you're in
- 56:03Speaker 8: the state of Massachusetts anyway. But no, I mean that.
- 56:06Speaker 8: But that's that's kind of the fan sanity that that
- 56:10Speaker 8: soccer evokes. And again it's it's beautiful. I love it.
- 56:14Speaker 8: I'm not I'm not trying to tell America hey, make
- 56:16Speaker 8: this your number one sport. But I promise you this
- 56:19Speaker 8: and we will talk about it more tomorrow, definitely ahead
- 56:22Speaker 8: of the US match tomorrow against Bosnia Hertzvirgonia. We have
- 56:27Speaker 8: a chance to do something special this go around. And
- 56:30Speaker 8: I was so scared coming into this World Cup that
