- 0:25Speaker 2: Let's talk to my triplet fyea New Orleans Saints coverage
- 0:30Speaker 2: with some Mattlibs mixed in.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Why don't you just go by Mike?
- 0:33Speaker 2: It's time to talk black and Golds with a Mike
- 0:35Speaker 2: Triplet of New Orleans Dot Football, presented by Benny's Carwash,
- 0:39Speaker 2: family owned and operated since nineteen fifty one.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Hey Mike, how are you good? How are you?
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm doing very well. Thoughts on the Saints. Kind of
- 0:52Speaker 1: reworking the schedule a little bit this week with coming
- 0:54Speaker 1: off the buy and then obviously with Thanksgiving.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I don't think it's too dramatic. I mean, obviously,
- 1:02Speaker 3: don't broke, wait, don't fix what's not broken. After two
- 1:10Speaker 3: straight wins, and you know, don't let them eat too
- 1:15Speaker 3: much and show up all fat and happy on Friday,
- 1:18Speaker 3: both figuratively and literally. But I mean, it was a
- 1:21Speaker 3: bye week, and they're getting more than their usual amount
- 1:25Speaker 3: of practice in this week, more than their usual amount
- 1:27Speaker 3: of rest in this week. So I would think practice
- 1:31Speaker 3: time and rest time gives the edge to the Saints
- 1:33Speaker 3: this week, even though even though they they are tempting
- 1:36Speaker 3: fade a little bit.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Let's talk about the offensive line. We're here at the
- 1:40Speaker 1: middle of the week. But no McCoy and no Patrick
- 1:45Speaker 1: gives me a lot of not great feels right now.
- 1:49Speaker 1: What can you tell us about their potential availability.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna probably have to wait and see what
- 1:56Speaker 3: it was like on Friday. We did not see them
- 1:58Speaker 3: on the brassfield yesterday or today. They're not going to
- 2:01Speaker 3: practice tomorrow, so that means we're not getting full strength,
- 2:06Speaker 3: full go Eric McCoy, which is a shame because obviously
- 2:10Speaker 3: he has meant so much of his team, as we
- 2:12Speaker 3: have learned when he's been on the field and when
- 2:14Speaker 3: he's been off the field. But I think the fact
- 2:17Speaker 3: that they called him day to day, the fact that
- 2:19Speaker 3: they kind of downplayed it when it first happened or
- 2:23Speaker 3: said it didn't seem like anything too serious. A fact
- 2:25Speaker 3: that we've seen him in the locker room this week,
- 2:28Speaker 3: I bet he practices in some capacity Friday, and there's
- 2:32Speaker 3: still a good chance he goes. I don't know that
- 2:34Speaker 3: for sure, and I'm sure they don't want to risk
- 2:36Speaker 3: reinjury that knocks him out for future games, but I
- 2:40Speaker 3: still think there's a good chance of him playing. I
- 2:42Speaker 3: think it's probably less optimistic.
- 2:43Speaker 1: With Patrick if either or doesn't play. What does the
- 2:47Speaker 1: line look like Sunday against the Rams.
- 2:51Speaker 3: If McCoy and Patrick are just Patrick.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Either the scenarios both or either?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look, Nick s Teldeverari has now started
- 3:00Speaker 3: uh two games in a row, I think in three
- 3:02Speaker 3: or four this season, so he's obviously going to be
- 3:05Speaker 3: the replacement for Patrick. They don't have Connor mcgovernor at
- 3:10Speaker 3: center anymore, so, I mean I would think Shane Lembue
- 3:13Speaker 3: would probably be the backup center rather than moving south
- 3:16Speaker 3: of Area or Rui's there and then having Lembue played guard.
- 3:19Speaker 3: But I mean it's guys who have played this season.
- 3:21Speaker 3: But obviously, obviously McCoy is the biggest one the hardest
- 3:26Speaker 3: to replace, the biggest boon when he's out there on
- 3:29Speaker 3: the field, and so he's the one you really want
- 3:32Speaker 3: to see out there. If they're both missing, Uh, yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 3: you're you're kind of taping it together. At least at
- 3:39Speaker 3: least I know Aaron Donald is not playing.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, look, they went from historic too horrific
- 3:45Speaker 1: when Eric McCoy went out. And correlation doesn't always equal causation,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but it's hard to ignore that component of uh, of
- 3:54Speaker 1: this whole conversation. So so work through the hypothetical here, Mike.
- 3:59Speaker 1: If McCoy doesn't, what's realistic to expect from the offense
- 4:03Speaker 1: against the runs?
- 4:04Speaker 3: I would say this, we I mean to be probably
- 4:07Speaker 3: more positive than I should be with this team, but
- 4:10Speaker 3: I think frankly we've seen an improvement in there in
- 4:14Speaker 3: their run game, getting all the way back to that
- 4:16Speaker 3: Chargers game. You know, they went there and they averaged
- 4:20Speaker 3: nearly like six yards of carry against the Chargers, and
- 4:23Speaker 3: McCoy wasn't back for that game. And then Carolina as
- 4:27Speaker 3: bad as they were, and in the game that ultimately
- 4:29Speaker 3: got does now and fired Alvin McCarey. Alvin Kamaras still
- 4:32Speaker 3: had two hundred twenty five yards at scrimmage in that game.
- 4:35Speaker 3: And then obviously during this two game win streak was risy.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I mean, the first game they beat Atlanta, they didn't
- 4:41Speaker 3: have McCloy back. They had mccud back for half of
- 4:43Speaker 3: this last game, but Jaysom Hill was still doing things
- 4:45Speaker 3: about him. So they are still doing some things well
- 4:49Speaker 3: with the run game, even just by having you know,
- 4:53Speaker 3: improved penning, improved Fuaga Ruiz. These are Ruiz back healthy
- 4:58Speaker 3: for that whole stretch. And so you know, I do
- 5:02Speaker 3: I do think this this you know, offensive group led
- 5:06Speaker 3: by Clint Kobek and Rick Dennison and John Benton, and
- 5:09Speaker 3: and when you give them at least sixty percent of
- 5:12Speaker 3: offensive line health, they've shown that could be competitive at least.
- 5:15Speaker 3: But it is. It is both causation and uh, it's
- 5:21Speaker 3: all of that. With Air McCoy, they're just they're just
- 5:22Speaker 3: a world better with with Eric McCoy.
- 5:25Speaker 1: He's on Twitter on my Triplet New Orleans out Football
- 5:27Speaker 1: Chats brought to by Benny's car Wash. Every week, we're
- 5:29Speaker 1: spending a lot of time talking about the offensive line
- 5:32Speaker 1: for these obvious reasons. Mike, I think the bigger issue
- 5:35Speaker 1: might be defensively, especially with the Rams did the Saints
- 5:38Speaker 1: last year when we played out in LA, So why
- 5:41Speaker 1: would this be any better than it was a year
- 5:43Speaker 1: ago in LA.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Well, they the Rams took a little while to get
- 5:51Speaker 3: going because of their own injuries this year, but they're
- 5:53Speaker 3: so healthy now with Naku and Cup and we saw
- 5:57Speaker 3: we've seen them doing that for three or four weeks.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I think that surprised me the most about the Rams
- 6:02Speaker 3: that when we got to watch them in prime time
- 6:04Speaker 3: the other night, is I guess they're having their own
- 6:07Speaker 3: offensive line problems because Matthew Stafford could not stand in
- 6:10Speaker 3: the pocket and get comfortable. I don't know if that's
- 6:13Speaker 3: something the Saints can take advantage of. We've seen their
- 6:16Speaker 3: pass rush come a little bit back to life these
- 6:19Speaker 3: last two weeks, the three sacks in each of their wins.
- 6:22Speaker 3: You know, they've made some tweaks to the rotation. Obviously
- 6:25Speaker 3: Brian Young now coaching the unit, they said they've gotten
- 6:28Speaker 3: back to their fundamentals. Health has not been an issue
- 6:31Speaker 3: for that group this year, so they need they need
- 6:34Speaker 3: to play a big part in making sure Atthew Stafford's
- 6:37Speaker 3: a little uncomfortable. But I just wrote the story today.
- 6:40Speaker 3: I mean, I think, I think, regardless of opponent, I
- 6:43Speaker 3: think Alante Taylor and Kouo Aid McKinstry as two outside
- 6:46Speaker 3: corners are about as important as anyone to watch on
- 6:49Speaker 3: the entire States roster over the last six weeks of
- 6:51Speaker 3: this season because you know their future is at stake.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Do they have a number one corner? Do they have
- 6:56Speaker 3: a number one and number two corner? Is that a
- 7:00Speaker 3: a least they don't have to invest heavily in the
- 7:02Speaker 3: draft or in free agency next year. And they're obviously
- 7:06Speaker 3: going to be tested by these guys Nikua Cup and
- 7:10Speaker 3: then DeMarcus Robinson too, who tore them up last year.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And Alante Taylor really struggled in that game when he
- 7:16Speaker 3: was playing in the slot. Now he's playing on the
- 7:18Speaker 3: outside and he's admittedly shown some rust going back to
- 7:23Speaker 3: the outside there. They're going to get tested more against
- 7:27Speaker 3: this team than they probably will be for the rest
- 7:29Speaker 3: of the season.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah, the Saints scored a couple of times within the
- 7:31Speaker 1: last six minutes after get down thirty to seven to
- 7:35Speaker 1: make it look way better than it was, But that
- 7:37Speaker 1: was a that was a that was a thorough behind
- 7:40Speaker 1: whipping out in La last year by the Rams over
- 7:43Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints. Mike, what do you think the
- 7:46Speaker 1: key will be for New Orleans if they're able to
- 7:47Speaker 1: get it to three and o one under Rizzi?
- 7:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that that would have been the one,
- 7:53Speaker 3: the main one. And it's not just because it's Matthew
- 7:56Speaker 3: Stafford and Cooper cub and Pooka Nakua, but the Saints
- 8:00Speaker 3: just all year long, every iteration of this team. When
- 8:03Speaker 3: they were good in Dallas in Week two, they gave
- 8:07Speaker 3: up a sixty five yard touchdown pass to Steedee Lamb.
- 8:09Speaker 3: When they were losing close games, they gave up two
- 8:11Speaker 3: sixty yard plays to the Eagles. When they've been winning
- 8:15Speaker 3: under Rizzy, They're giving up eighty nine yard touchdown passes
- 8:18Speaker 3: to Jerry Judy all year long. They have added them
- 8:22Speaker 3: up this past week. Twenty six plays or penalties of
- 8:25Speaker 3: thirty plus yard. This defensive given up. And sometimes it's
- 8:29Speaker 3: because they've had tackling problems and somebody's gotten through six
- 8:32Speaker 3: tacklers bouncing off of them. Sometimes it's getting behind a
- 8:36Speaker 3: defensive back. Sometimes it's two defensive backs running crashing into
- 8:40Speaker 3: each other in the middle of the field. But it's
- 8:42Speaker 3: just been the one thing they've never been able to
- 8:46Speaker 3: fix based on injuries, based on coaching changes. It's been
- 8:50Speaker 3: the one constant problem that they haven't fixed yet. And
- 8:52Speaker 3: Darren Rizzy said it was going to be a big
- 8:54Speaker 3: talking point. He's been coming up with his clever props
- 8:57Speaker 3: and his clever speeches, and that was the focus of
- 9:00Speaker 3: this week's UH talking point is they can't be given
- 9:04Speaker 3: away free beats to this team. And this is a
- 9:06Speaker 3: team that'll that will exploit that more than more than
- 9:09Speaker 3: most you'll face. And we haven't even mentioned the name
- 9:11Speaker 3: Kyen Williams is one of the more dynamic running backs
- 9:13Speaker 3: and pass catching running backs in this league too.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Two games back in the division was seven to go?
- 9:24Speaker 1: How realistic is it that?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Well? No, wait, six to go? Six to go? Right?
- 9:29Speaker 3: Am I wrong? And it's not really two games back
- 9:35Speaker 3: because they cannot finish with a better division record than
- 9:39Speaker 3: Atlanta will finish with the better record, So you have
- 9:43Speaker 3: to make up three games in six weeks. I don't
- 9:46Speaker 3: think it's impossible for Atlanta to fall back, but three
- 9:49Speaker 3: games in six weeks means what five and one and
- 9:53Speaker 3: Atlanta goes two and four? Maybe? Maybe, but I think
- 9:58Speaker 3: that's asking a lot on both ends. So I think
- 10:00Speaker 3: it's a lot more likely than maybe the States could
- 10:03Speaker 3: finish four and two and the Falcons could finish three
- 10:05Speaker 3: and three. But it's tough. But I mean, you beat
- 10:08Speaker 3: a team like the Rams and the Falcons Blues, then
- 10:11Speaker 3: then you know, this conversation gets a little more realistic
- 10:14Speaker 3: next week. So you know, if we just take it
- 10:16Speaker 3: one week at a ton man, well.
- 10:21Speaker 1: He didn't blow it against Carolina, maybe, but then again,
- 10:24Speaker 1: if he didn't blow it against Carolina, Dennis Allen could
- 10:26Speaker 1: still be the coach, So who knows. Mike Triplet New
- 10:30Speaker 1: Orleans Dot Football. Get him on Twitter x at Mike
- 10:33Speaker 1: Triplet Happy Thanksgiving Man, Thank.
- 10:35Speaker 3: You, thank thanks for having me.
