- 0:13Welcome to Network 7's Mission Sunlight Chat.
- 0:15We are at the General Conference Session here
- 0:17in St. Louis, Missouri in the United States.
- 0:19The General Conference Session is the business
- 0:22meeting of the Seventh -day Adventist Church
- 0:24that's held every five years handling various
- 0:27business activities. But also there is a huge
- 0:31exhibit hall, and you are looking at that exhibit
- 0:33hall now as there are hundreds of exhibitors
- 0:36from across the world, both lay ministries, lay
- 0:40businesses that are sharing with us. other ministries,
- 0:43what they have to offer to ministry, and then
- 0:46the institutional ministries of the Seventh -day
- 0:49Adventist Church, division -wide, divisions from
- 0:52around the world. And so it's just a blessing
- 0:54to be here and connect and network with others
- 0:56and hear what Jesus is doing in people's lives
- 0:59around the globe. And literally, we are going
- 1:02around the globe with our interviews this time.
- 1:04As you watch over the next few months and maybe
- 1:07even a year plus, we have had the opportunity
- 1:10to talk with many international guests. And some
- 1:12of those international guests, well, one of them
- 1:15is right here with us. Adventist Frontier Missions
- 1:19is an entity that is, I would say, ubiquitous.
- 1:25You touch every continent except one, I guess.
- 1:30The very, very cold one. But you're really reaching
- 1:35people for the world. And Orion Lawrence, you
- 1:37are one of the missionaries of Adventist Frontier
- 1:40Missions. Yes. And the AFM is a ministry organization
- 1:48that we've interviewed some of their other missionaries.
- 1:50And we're going to talk more about AFM specifically.
- 1:53But before we get to that, I would like to hear
- 1:55your story and learn a little bit more about
- 1:57your journey. But I want to do two things before
- 2:00we do that. One, I'm going to adjust your mic
- 2:02because you are taller and bigger than we gave
- 2:05you credit for. I want to get you a little closer
- 2:07to the mic. And then also I want to ask you if
- 2:10you would just have a word of prayer for us.
- 2:12Yeah, see, you're familiar with the mic. You
- 2:13know how to get it closer there. Okay. Would
- 2:16you pray for us? Certainly. Dear Lord, we thank
- 2:20you for your love and your strength, your power
- 2:23that you use. to bring people to you. And I just
- 2:29pray that the stories that we share will encourage
- 2:35other people to put their trust in you and to
- 2:39move forward in any way you lead in reaching
- 2:44others and enhancing your work around the world
- 2:50so that you can come quickly. This we pray in
- 2:52your name. Amen. Amen. Thank you for sharing
- 2:55that. The journey you've been on, tell us about
- 3:00that from your childhood to deciding to become
- 3:06an AFM missionary. Tell us about your youth growing
- 3:08up and how you connected with Jesus. Well, I
- 3:12was born and raised as a self -admonished Christian.
- 3:16I can remember as a little child having family
- 3:21worship and singing a little children's song
- 3:24that was... In one of the children's song books
- 3:27that we had back in the day, it was missionary,
- 3:29missionary, goodbye. And my brother and I would
- 3:32pack up little suitcases and march down the hallway
- 3:34and wave goodbye to our parents. And so I remember
- 3:38also visiting my grandparents and my grandmother
- 3:41would sit us both down on the couch as soon as
- 3:45we got in, you know, the first evening. And remember,
- 3:50God has a special work for you to do. And so.
- 3:55While my parents didn't say you have to be missionaries
- 3:58or whatever, I grew up always knowing that as
- 4:03Christians, we are here on this earth to serve
- 4:08God in whatever way he calls. And then later
- 4:15on, when I was in boarding school, we had a week
- 4:20of prayer by a missionary that was from AFM.
- 4:26I think I just, at that point, chose to direct
- 4:32my life, my training, my education, so that I
- 4:35could be a missionary. And so I served with Adventist
- 4:43Frontier Missions as a student missionary in
- 4:45Papua New Guinea. And then God called us later
- 4:50on after I was married, my wife and I. We first
- 4:52spent six years. at an orphanage in Kolkata,
- 4:57India. And then after that, God called us back
- 5:02to Papua New Guinea. Okay. So you, growing up,
- 5:07you kind of had the Christian connection. Yes.
- 5:11Tell me about your siblings. I have one twin
- 5:14brother, and we both have... We've served in
- 5:21different places, different times as missionaries,
- 5:23and our parents have always encouraged that.
- 5:28So just one sibling. Yes. Your parents had twins
- 5:32and said, oh, enough's enough. Basically. So
- 5:35my first wife, my late wife, and I had an older
- 5:38daughter, and then two years later we had twins.
- 5:41Our intent was to have four children, but that's
- 5:43what we did. When we had the twins, we said,
- 5:45okay, enough's enough. Having two at a time is
- 5:47a wonderful blessing. But that also kind of evens
- 5:52the playing field for having any more. It may
- 5:57not be that way for all parents. I actually had
- 6:00an elder in a church whose mother was a twin,
- 6:03and they had multiple twins in that same line
- 6:08of kids. So, yeah, it may not be the same principle
- 6:14for everybody. Having had twins, I kind of think
- 6:18it's a neat connection because people see one
- 6:22of my daughters and think that she's the other
- 6:26daughter in like totally different states or
- 6:28different settings. And they find that. So here's
- 6:31a backstory for you, for our listeners and for
- 6:33our viewers. And you can't see Orion, but if
- 6:37you go back to a Mission Sunlight episode from
- 6:39about a year ago, we interviewed someone who
- 6:42looks just like Orion. And I didn't know until
- 6:44he sat in the chair here beside me, there's a
- 6:47reason why he looks like him and talks like him.
- 6:50Because it's your twin brother that I interviewed
- 6:52in Bethel, Alaska. Yes, yes. So you truly do
- 6:57have a rich family history of mission work, you
- 7:00and your brother for sure. Yes. And what were
- 7:03you saying before we came on the recording about
- 7:05hot and cold? Well, my brother and his wife are
- 7:10in Alaska where it's really cold. And my wife
- 7:13and I are in Papua New Guinea, where it's always
- 7:17hot. I wonder if you guys could trade places
- 7:22and if the people would notice. The brothers.
- 7:24I know the wives would notice. I think they would.
- 7:27For one thing, I wouldn't be able to. For either
- 7:31one of us, we don't know everyone in other places.
- 7:35Okay. It wouldn't be as hard for me to impersonate
- 7:41him for a little bit in Alaska, speaking English.
- 7:43He would have a harder time speaking pidgin English.
- 7:46Gotcha. Are you pretty proficient? Yeah. How
- 7:50long have you been there? Seven years. Okay,
- 7:52seven years. For our viewing audience, you can
- 7:55see the articles of clothing that Orion has on
- 8:00him that include various Papuan traditional garb.
- 8:07But for our listening audience, you're going
- 8:08to have to dial us in on YouTube or Facebook
- 8:11and see the video because he is dressed well.
- 8:15I want to hear about what you have on when we
- 8:18get to the second segment. We're talking more
- 8:19about AFM and your work there at P &G. P &G,
- 8:22of course, being short for Papua New Guinea.
- 8:25But before that, here's a little further trivia
- 8:29of the story. I met your brother a year -ish
- 8:32ago in June. a year ago, and interviewed him
- 8:36for the story in Bethel, Alaska. And then after
- 8:40meeting your sister -in -law, his wife Robin,
- 8:43she said, hey, could you do some video for our
- 8:46family so that our parents, the twins' parents,
- 8:50could record some greetings, kind of some legacy
- 8:54video for after they're gone. So sure, we were
- 8:58glad to do that. And again, not knowing you.
- 9:03A few months ago, Jordan and I recorded them.
- 9:06We've just sent them the video here a few weeks
- 9:08ago, and so they have that. And so now they talked
- 9:11about their kids, and I only casually made the
- 9:15connection with your brother Frank, right? Yes.
- 9:19But then now you're sitting in my chair. I've
- 9:21met the whole family. Wow. It's a small world.
- 9:26It is. In the Christian world, in the Adventist
- 9:28world, it's a small world. What a blessing. Amen.
- 9:31So, Orion, thank you for sharing your story with
- 9:34us. I want to hear more about what you're doing
- 9:36today. We're going to take a break and come back
- 9:39in just a moment. But to our listeners and viewers,
- 9:41we are grateful to have you along today. Would
- 9:43you click the share button and let others know
- 9:45that you are watching if you're blessed by the
- 9:46program? Those of you that are watching and want
- 9:48others to see this fantastic Papuan traditional
- 9:52garb. click that, share it with a friend. Maybe
- 9:55somebody will recognize it and be familiar with
- 9:58it. And otherwise, it might just be very interesting,
- 10:00especially if there's a kid involved who might
- 10:02be thinking about becoming a missionary, like
- 10:04you were telling us, Orian, packing up the bags
- 10:07and just kind of catch a spirit for the mission
- 10:11field. However it may happen, please click the
- 10:14share button. We'll be back in a moment with
- 10:15more Mission Sunlight Chat. Being a media missionary
- 10:26can mean many different things. It means the
- 10:29love of a home at the heart of the planet. The
- 10:32intrepid spirit of a village and the vibe of
- 10:35a great metropolis. It means camera one and camera
- 10:40two. It means transforming a school, orphanage,
- 10:44or hospital. It means fire, rain, ice, and snow.
- 10:49It means gifts by the dollar and by the check.
- 10:53it means donations that roll and donations that
- 10:57fly it's a movement on a trail or down a motorway
- 11:03it means family all of us together and individually
- 11:08it's who you are or who you are becoming and
- 11:13to her it's a simple gesture that means hope
- 11:17whatever it means to you being a media missionary
- 11:21means more than you might think. Welcome back
- 11:32to Mission Sunlight Chat. We are talking with
- 11:34Orion Lawrence, who is a missionary for Adventist
- 11:38Frontier Missions in Papua New Guinea. What,
- 11:42first of all, is AFM for those who may not have
- 11:45heard before? Adventist Frontier Missions sends
- 11:49missionaries. to hard to reach or unentered areas,
- 11:53tribal areas or sometimes other but people groups
- 11:59that do not have a functioning church in their
- 12:05area or have a struggling church but where the
- 12:09regular general conference has not been able
- 12:14to effectively for one reason or another. grow
- 12:19a church in that area. And so it's an unreached
- 12:21area. And so AFM missionaries apply and then
- 12:26raise their own money to go work and support
- 12:30the church. We don't take tithe money. We don't
- 12:32get funding from the General Conference. But
- 12:34we work very hand in hand with the General Conference
- 12:38in furthering the work of the gospel. Amen. And
- 12:42the General Conference being, of course, the
- 12:44main body of the Seventh -day Adventist Church,
- 12:45the administrative body. And we call this the
- 12:48General Conference Session, where they're having
- 12:50their meeting, where we are right now in the
- 12:52exhibit hall. So AFM, Adventist Frontier Missions.
- 12:56My sister -in -law, brother -in -law, worked
- 12:59with AFM in Mali. Okay. And so I'm a little bit
- 13:03familiar with the work. I've also traveled extensively
- 13:06shooting mission videos. And so run into a number
- 13:11of AFM missionaries. You folks, the name Frontier
- 13:15is not to be taken for granted. You truly are
- 13:18Frontier, right on the front lines for sharing
- 13:22Christ around the globe. All right, before we
- 13:25go any further, I'm sorry to our listening audience.
- 13:27They do not get to see this. I hope you will
- 13:29take the chance to tune in on Facebook or on
- 13:32YouTube. But tell me what... we're seeing here?
- 13:40Well, I have on a necklace of cowrie shells.
- 13:43That's the centerpiece. The pendant is a crocodile's
- 13:47tooth. I have a little string bag that men use
- 13:52to carry whatever it is they need to carry. Men
- 13:54carry smaller bags that are centrally located.
- 13:58Easy to full movement for fighting or whatever.
- 14:01Women carry the heavy loads and so their bags
- 14:04are much larger. So your bag We would call that
- 14:08a man purse. Yeah, it's a man's belem. All their
- 14:12bags are called belems. Okay. And so this is
- 14:14a man's belem. Okay. And you can get them a little
- 14:17bit bigger, but they're not very big. You carry
- 14:19your phone, your money, your spoon, your pen.
- 14:22Yeah. Going back to the necklace, what are the
- 14:27shells attached to? Is that just... The backing
- 14:32is made out of bark. And it's what they also
- 14:36traditionally make the Belem bag out of. Okay.
- 14:40Bark just off the trees. Yes. So I also have
- 14:43a string Belem that's made out of yarn that's
- 14:47been retwisted. Okay. And same traditional way
- 14:50of making it, but now with all the different
- 14:52colors. So this is in the colors of the Papuan
- 14:55flag. Okay, and that would be more for the ladies,
- 14:58or would a man carry that too? A man can carry
- 15:01this one. This is sort of either one. I was given
- 15:04this by a man, so I'm assuming that this is also
- 15:07a man's Belem, but it's just a larger one for
- 15:12carrying more documents and things. And I noticed
- 15:15the way it strands around you. It's got this
- 15:16nice decorative pom -pom, for lack of a better
- 15:21term, right there at the top on your shoulder.
- 15:22So it kind of forms a little bit of a... Kind
- 15:26of an adornment on your shoulder. That's kind
- 15:28of neat. Yeah. Okay, and tell us what's on your
- 15:30head. Okay, on my head I have a headdress made
- 15:33out of shells, and again, cowrie shells and some
- 15:36other shells, and then pig's tusks, wild boar.
- 15:42Pigs are very important in Papua New Guinea culture,
- 15:45both as money and as food. And then on my arm
- 15:50I have a bone knife from a leg bone of a cassowary.
- 15:55And this would have been traditionally actually
- 15:57the humerus bone of an enemy. But nowadays, human
- 16:04bones, that's taboo. That's not used. So they
- 16:08switched to the leg bone of a cassowary, which
- 16:11is a large flightless bird that we have in Australia
- 16:13and New Guinea. Jordan, I'm going to ask you
- 16:15to grab a shot of his headdress there. And while
- 16:20you're doing that, I'm going to ask, would you
- 16:22mind pulling the knife out? Would you call it
- 16:25a knife or a dagger? A dagger, a knife, yeah.
- 16:28But it's supposed to be just close to hand so
- 16:30that you have it underneath this armband on my
- 16:32left arm. Yeah, I see it. So that's been carved
- 16:35up a little bit for decoration. Wow, that's really
- 16:37nice. And so on your head, do you have that headdress
- 16:39shot, Jordan? So on your head, you can see the,
- 16:42you call them what, cowrie shells? Cowrie shells.
- 16:45Okay, these smaller shells. Yeah, the smaller
- 16:46shells. And then the pig tusks have been dissected.
- 16:51To make them lay flat against the head. Yeah.
- 16:54And so that's really just one pig's tusks there.
- 16:57Because they had two snouts coming off, and you
- 16:59just cut them in half. I'm not sure exactly how
- 17:02that, whatever they collected. Okay. All right.
- 17:06And, Jordan, if you want to pan down, I'm going
- 17:08to give him the dagger back, and you can just
- 17:09show a shot of, hold that up by your microphone,
- 17:12if you will, and then you can see that knife.
- 17:16It has an interesting head to it there. Is that
- 17:20part of the joint, do you think, to carve that
- 17:21down? Yeah, there's the knee joint of the cassowary
- 17:25bird, and then they've put carving on it. Okay,
- 17:28and then show us the point, too, if you can.
- 17:30Flip that out toward the camera. Yeah. That's
- 17:34really interesting, the way they've carved it.
- 17:36And you said it's the... It's a bird's leg. It's
- 17:39from the leg of a bird. It has to be a pretty
- 17:43significant size bird then. These are similar
- 17:46to a size of an ostrich, just a little smaller.
- 17:49And then you've got a little sheath that you
- 17:50can just slide that in to hold it in place. Is
- 17:53almost everybody walking around with one of those
- 17:54so they have it handy? They used to, not so much
- 17:57anymore. But when you have people building a
- 17:59house and they're sewing on the shingles that
- 18:03they've made out of tree leaves, then they'll
- 18:06use this. constantly to poke holes through the
- 18:09tree leaves to sew the jungle vine for tying
- 18:11the shingles onto the roof. I see. Wow, it's
- 18:14just a valuable tool. It's as important as like
- 18:16a pocket knife or a pin flashlight for us here
- 18:19now. Very cool. So, okay, the truth is you're
- 18:23a missionary. What are you doing in the mission
- 18:25field? What are you doing there? Working with
- 18:28the people, encouraging the local leaders, training
- 18:31them, mentoring them, discipling them. and helping
- 18:36to grow the church, plant new churches, but especially
- 18:40focused on giving the local church leaders that
- 18:45are already there a firm foundation from which
- 18:47to grow and further the gospel. Are you seeing
- 18:53baptisms in the work that you do? Yes. People
- 18:57that were here have heard of the... evangelistic
- 19:01program that was done in Papua New Guinea last
- 19:03year. I spoke for our area and we had 43 baptisms.
- 19:11We had about 45 more that signed up. I said from
- 19:16our area at least we were not baptizing people
- 19:18that just gave their hearts to Christ just now.
- 19:22I want them to have some time to understand the
- 19:26truth. Our people are very much in a culture
- 19:31that worships and tries to manipulate the spirits.
- 19:34And when people grow up from that culture, it's
- 19:40very easy for them to accept a loving Christ
- 19:42as a God to worship. But because they have been
- 19:47controlled by the spirits and lived in fear of
- 19:50the spirits their whole lives, they still keep
- 19:53all that thing sort of in their back pocket.
- 19:59Make sure to say, I'll pray to God, but I'll
- 20:04also do the traditional things just in case.
- 20:09Just cover all my bases. And so getting them
- 20:12to the point where their trust in God is firm
- 20:17enough that they're not going to the witch doctor
- 20:20when the child gets sick. Make sure they're anchored
- 20:24in what they are committing to. Yes. Fantastic.
- 20:28You mentioned, what did you call it, P &G for
- 20:32Christ? P &G for Christ. I want to talk a little
- 20:34bit about P &G for Christ because it was a tremendous
- 20:36blessing to the island, I understand. We'll talk
- 20:39about that more. My wife and I were actually
- 20:42supposed to be over there for part of that. Unfortunately,
- 20:44for transportation, we... ran into some issues
- 20:46and couldn't come. But we'll talk about the outreach
- 20:49in just a moment. Thank you for being a part
- 20:51of our listening and viewing audience today.
- 20:53We're grateful for you. We're thankful, thankful
- 20:55that you are with us today. And we'd ask you
- 20:57to just click the share button, let others know
- 20:59that you're watching or listening. And also,
- 21:01would you consider giving? MissionSunlight .org
- 21:03has a donate button, and we are extra blessed
- 21:06when you help us continue stretching and spreading
- 21:08the ministry word here and what Jesus is doing
- 21:12through the outreach of Mission Sunlight. So
- 21:14if you would. Click on the Donate button at missionsunlight
- 21:17.org. This is Mission Sunlight Chat. Back in
- 21:20a moment. Our salvation is a day -to -day matter,
- 21:31isn't it? The real principle of the Sabbath is
- 21:37reconnecting ourselves with the Creator. to abide
- 21:45in Jesus now. We move ahead with our mission
- 21:48objectives, recognizing that we are serving together
- 21:52the Most High God. Welcome back to Mission Sunlight
- 22:08Chat. We're delighted to have you along. If you
- 22:10haven't connected with us yet, please do so at
- 22:12missionsunlight .org or text us. Getting a text
- 22:15from you is really valuable. If it's your prayer
- 22:18request, if it's a program that you were blessed
- 22:21with, just having that connection with our listeners
- 22:23and viewers, that's important to us and we're
- 22:25thankful for that. So please consider shooting
- 22:27us a text, 1 -423 -855 -4877. Maybe you don't
- 22:31text. I know there was a time when it drove me
- 22:34crazy. I didn't, but I found it fundamental now.
- 22:36So if you don't text, you can email us, hello
- 22:39at missionsunlight .org. Ori and Lawrence, you
- 22:43are with us today from AFM, Adventist Frontier
- 22:47Missions. You mentioned in our previous segment
- 22:49about a PNG for Christ. That was a pretty significant
- 22:56success for sharing the gospel, for sharing Jesus
- 22:59with the island nation of PNG. You mentioned
- 23:03about 40 or 50 baptisms where you were, people
- 23:07coming to Jesus, and even more still attending.
- 23:11probably have some growth and some continued
- 23:13baptisms out of that, if I understand how evangelism
- 23:15usually works. That's not always the end. That
- 23:18initial meeting is often followed up with more
- 23:22studies and more baptisms. But PNG for Christ
- 23:25was a major, major event for the country. Tell
- 23:29me about that. Well, their aim was, I don't know
- 23:33how many, but they had simultaneous meetings
- 23:37throughout the entire country. People came in
- 23:41as guest speakers from around the world as well
- 23:43as local pastors, elders, and things. And so
- 23:48for our area, we live on a big river system.
- 23:54And so I was able to just help send my big canoe.
- 23:59I have a 60 -foot long dugout canoe. And use
- 24:02that to go and bring people from other areas
- 24:05up and down the river. within our sphere of influence
- 24:09to camp out and have the two weeks of meetings.
- 24:13And we had about, on the second Sabbath, I'd
- 24:16say we had over 700 people in attendance. And
- 24:20in Papua New Guinea, prior to this, and what
- 24:28was part of, aided, I think, in the tremendous
- 24:31amount of baptisms that occurred, is that during
- 24:35COVID, Because the churches were shut down, they
- 24:40had broken out into a lot of small groups. Each
- 24:45church was broken up into small groups, and they
- 24:48met in their different local neighborhoods. And
- 24:52this helped to foster a larger, a stronger sense
- 24:58of community among the members and among new
- 25:01interests. This, I believe, also helped in the
- 25:07number of people that were baptized as well as
- 25:09I believe will continue to help in the retention
- 25:11of new members. So there's a plan. It's not just
- 25:15let's get them baptized so we can say they're
- 25:17Christians or converts or any of that. It's how
- 25:22can we make disciples who will make disciples.
- 25:26What happened in 2024 was supposed to have happened
- 25:29in 2020. And so because of COVID, this delay
- 25:34has allowed for a stronger development and buildup
- 25:38of the groundwork necessary before the meetings
- 25:40that I believe really had part of the impact
- 25:44in the harvest that we had. I know we don't want
- 25:47to just be focused on numbers, but it certainly
- 25:49is telling to us when we hear the numbers and
- 25:52we know that. People made decisions, and some
- 25:55people will slip away from their decisions. That's
- 25:57the reality. Do you know what the number of people
- 26:01who professed Christ at the end of the meetings?
- 26:04I did not try to research that ahead of time.
- 26:07I do not have that number on my hand. It was
- 26:09a large number. It was very large. I did hear
- 26:12a number. I won't mention it since you can't
- 26:13confirm it. But there was in the tens of thousands.
- 26:17Yes, yes. And so significant impact on. The country
- 26:22of Papua New Guinea for Christ. Yes, yes. Orion,
- 26:26I know you have a story to tell to wrap up our
- 26:28program. Just a short testimony. Would you go
- 26:31ahead and share that now? Where my wife and I
- 26:35are serving, we're very remote, and there's two
- 26:40villages that are across from land that belongs
- 26:43to the government, and the government has given
- 26:45one -third of the hill to the Adventist Church
- 26:48Mission, and two -thirds they control. And a
- 26:53few years ago, a death occurred because of drunken
- 26:57fighting, and one village burned down the other
- 27:00village in retaliation. And this had also happened
- 27:05right around the time that I was having specific
- 27:08Bible studies with my church elders about curses.
- 27:12And Satan did not want these to go on, and so
- 27:14he helped stir up this trouble. Fast forward
- 27:18from 2019 till 2024 and February of 2025 and
- 27:25I was just giving out to the baptismal candidates
- 27:30Bible study lessons in the language for Papua
- 27:36New Guinea, the trade language, Tok Pisin. And
- 27:40that same night... Satan did not want people
- 27:45to have the chance to study these things in their
- 27:47own language. He stirred up memories amongst
- 27:49the young people, especially of the village that
- 27:52had been burned, to retaliate against the Upper
- 27:56River Village. And so the next morning, my canoe
- 28:01driver came up and he said, I want you to stay
- 28:04in your house today. We've agreed you're safe,
- 28:07but you stay in your house, and don't be alarmed
- 28:10if you hear bombs going off and gunfire and things.
- 28:14But I didn't feel that was what I should be doing.
- 28:20So my wife was busy packing in case we needed
- 28:22to evacuate, but I said, I'm going down. I went
- 28:26down to the riverfront and sat right by our fuel
- 28:30shed and prayed and read my Bible while... I
- 28:35could watch the young men arguing with the village
- 28:39elders across the river from me. And the shouts
- 28:45sometimes got louder or less and things. And
- 28:49I just continued praying, reading my Bible. Eventually,
- 28:52it became like 2 in the afternoon. The sun was
- 28:54now, I was no longer in the shade. And so I...
- 28:59Things had quieted down. I went back to the house.
- 29:02My wife met me at the door. What's happening?
- 29:04I said, I don't know. But they're not fighting
- 29:06right now. Right. And two days later, it was
- 29:12the next day. Everyone was just staying in their
- 29:14houses that whole night. The next day, no one
- 29:17was moving around because everyone was sort of
- 29:19not sure if there was a fight going to happen
- 29:21or not. But on Tuesday, my boat driver came back
- 29:27up and he said, You did just the right thing.
- 29:30God led you to do this. You didn't know it, but
- 29:33where your boat shed is is the dividing line
- 29:36between the two villages. And I already did know
- 29:42that where our house is is where the jail used
- 29:45to be when Australian police were posted in our
- 29:51location to keep the peace between the warring
- 29:53villages. And so... the headman of the village
- 29:58was able to say to all the young men that wanted
- 30:01to fight, say, no, Orion is sitting there on
- 30:04the line between our villages, and he represents
- 30:06the government and the mission, and you have
- 30:08to go through him to attack the upper village
- 30:09so you can't fight. And that was enough of a
- 30:13logical... Conclusion in their minds. To diffuse
- 30:18the whole thing. Yeah, everything just quieted
- 30:20right down. And, you know, sometimes God calls
- 30:23us to just wait and see that I am God. Literally
- 30:27stand still and wait. And so God calls us in
- 30:33many different ways to work for him. Amen. And
- 30:38sometimes it's to do something great. Sometimes
- 30:41it's just to sit still. Stand still and wait
- 30:45on him. But when we put our trust in God, he
- 30:50will look after us. Amen. Amen. Orion, let's
- 30:53have prayer as we wrap up this episode. Heavenly
- 30:57Father, we thank you for the way you lead us
- 30:59in moving forward and maybe turning around, but
- 31:04also in the waiting. We thank you that sometimes
- 31:07you point us in the direction that we just need
- 31:10to sit and pray. And that's what you have planned
- 31:14for us for right now. And help us all to be aware
- 31:18of and listening for your voice to tell us when
- 31:21we need to wait and follow you in that. It's
- 31:25not easy as humans to do that. We want to move
- 31:28ahead and we want to move forward and fix things,
- 31:31but sometimes that's what it takes. Thank you
- 31:33for your guidance in AFM and all of the regions
- 31:36that they work in, Lord. They're reaching so
- 31:38many people for your kingdom, and I pray that
- 31:40you'll continue to bless them, especially bless
- 31:42Orion and his wife as they work in PNG, and they
- 31:45further the gospel there so that people can hear
- 31:48of your soon return and your love for them. And
- 31:50we pray this in your name, amen. Amen. Amen.
- 31:54Thank you so much for sharing, Orion. Thank you,
- 31:56Jordan, for your... persistent pursuit of excellence
- 31:59over there in the broadcast booth and for having
