- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by C Kick. This is episode 432.
- 0:20I'll be your host Kyle Corwin and I'm here with my Co host Nay
- 0:24Reyes night. Happy beginning of the week.
- 0:35Happy Mother's Day. I know you guys probably aren't
- 0:39listening to this. Shout out to all the moms.
- 0:42Yeah, big shout out to the moms. Hey, it doesn't have to just be
- 0:45Mother's Day to shout out the moms.
- 0:47That's true. I'm just here to keep it, just
- 0:49keeping it real. Random love.
- 0:51Do you know, I was born on Mother's Day?
- 0:54You know, it kind of like rotates around.
- 0:57Yeah. Yeah, I was born on Mother's
- 0:59Day. Name a better gift?
- 1:01Let's I. Mean.
- 1:02Come on. I mean, Nate Reyes emerging into
- 1:04the world. I mean, I don't think Mama Reyes
- 1:06could ask for anything better than that.
- 1:08Not too. Shabby about that.
- 1:13What a gift. You're a gift.
- 1:15You're a gift to our listeners. The gift.
- 1:17The gift. The gift that keeps on giving.
- 1:19Yeah, I'll give you something. I'll give you something.
- 1:23Don't know what. You might not like it.
- 1:26You might have an You might have be given an apology this
- 1:29episode. Who knows.
- 1:32I don't know. Maybe a little teaser there.
- 1:36Maybe a little teaser of what's to come in Episode 432.
- 1:41Speaking of Episode 432, we are going to be talking Paul Skeens.
- 1:46We are going to be talking the Braves.
- 1:50Almost no hitter. That's not really no hitter.
- 1:53If you if you follow this podcast, you know exactly what
- 1:55we're referring to there. We're going to be talking a
- 1:57little bit of Mike Trout. Some developments in in that
- 2:02story that recently came about. We're going to be talking some
- 2:06Aaron Judge being back. We're going to talk.
- 2:09I had it listed as Guardian City Connect leak, but things have
- 2:13since changed. Apparently it's official.
- 2:16So we're going to talk a little bit of that and then we're going
- 2:19to possibly revisit our our running bet that we have going.
- 2:23But as I mentioned starting off the top here, let's talk some
- 2:26Paul Skein's debut as that was the story of the weekend really
- 2:32regardless what what team you follow, I think this was the
- 2:36highlight of the weekend. I do know there were some
- 2:39Mother's Day walk offs today. There were some, there's some
- 2:43some big series wins today. But Saturday, as it were Paul
- 2:50Skein's debut, the story that everyone was, was waiting for
- 2:58was the the debut that everyone was waiting for.
- 3:01And I don't know. I mean it was, it was a debut,
- 3:09It wasn't exactly Stephen Strasburg debut quality, but it
- 3:15was a it was a debut. There were some takeaways, some
- 3:18exciting takeaways. I think Libby Dunn was in was in
- 3:22attendance for for those of you that that care about these types
- 3:26of things there was a lot of a lot of triple digit fastballs
- 3:36and and there was some rain as well.
- 3:39So let's let's get into it. What were your what were your
- 3:42takeaways? Because I know you were locked
- 3:44in. I, this weekend was in Nashville
- 3:47was out of town, but I was still able to to have it up and and
- 3:53invisible, so I was able to catch the debut as well.
- 3:56Fortunately, he didn't go all nine, so I didn't have to be
- 3:58locked in for the entire game. Right.
- 4:00That's. I was kind of the same, yeah.
- 4:03So because I can, I can assure you, once the once the debut was
- 4:06over I was no longer watching the Pirates game.
- 4:09But with that said, what were your, what were your some of
- 4:11your takeaways? I did.
- 4:14I did feel bad that it was so like rainy and gloomy.
- 4:19You know, it's just a an insane day to look forward to.
- 4:25I'm going to get the negatives out of the way.
- 4:28Let's get the negatives. Out of the way.
- 4:31I've never listened to the Pirates broadcasters before, but
- 4:38Oh my, was that tough. It was tough, dude.
- 4:44Like that's knock. It's like a golf broadcasting
- 4:49kind of monotone. No excitement.
- 4:54I it was strange. You got to.
- 4:57Bring your A game on a day like that like you got to.
- 5:00You know that the like other fans are like outside of the
- 5:03Pirates are watching this game like you like not to.
- 5:07I'm not trying to sound like a Homer here because like I know
- 5:10that there's a lot of people that don't love Michael Kay.
- 5:13But like when Judge was chasing the the 60 two home run race and
- 5:17like he was aware that people are viewing these games that
- 5:22ordinarily aren't going to watch these games.
- 5:25And there's like there's a little bit of spunk.
- 5:27There's a little bit of pep in his step.
- 5:28There was no pep in the step for for the Pirates broadcaster.
- 5:32So that yeah, that was one thing that stood out.
- 5:36But overall like they kept saying they were like it's it's
- 5:41May 11th, look at this place, it's May 11th.
- 5:46You had lines out the door waiting to get into the stadium.
- 5:51You you just you had signs all over the place.
- 5:53I mean, the whole stadium was jam packed.
- 5:55We were lucky enough to give a couple fans an opportunity to
- 6:01join in. I think it was a birthday gift
- 6:04early. Birthday gift?
- 6:05Yep. For a little man.
- 6:06So, like, that made me feel great.
- 6:09I'm sure it made you feel great too.
- 6:10Like I it's just so good to see Pittsburgh and like Pirates fans
- 6:19excited about their team again. Like it's good for baseball when
- 6:24you get this and you and I got to like see and be somewhat
- 6:31attached. Obviously it happened after I
- 6:32moved. But like the easy comparison is
- 6:35the Strasbourg debut and like just the hype but like you get
- 6:40to see like a like a a fan base that you're just you're not used
- 6:47to seeing act this way really step up and and enjoy the
- 6:53moment. And like for for the broadcast
- 6:56and like everyone to just recognize this place is jamming
- 6:59on May 11th like it was somewhat of a a post season type
- 7:05environment. So that alone before the
- 7:08performance like that alone is worth noting.
- 7:11Dare I say and I I feel like maybe I'm just in a weird mood.
- 7:16I I don't know. But this?
- 7:17This just came upon me. Would it be fair to say that,
- 7:24like, there shouldn't really be a fan base?
- 7:26Unless it's like, unless we're talking like Yankees, Red Sox,
- 7:31or, you know, Dodgers, Padres, Dodgers, signs, whatever.
- 7:35Unless it's just your absolute most hated fan base.
- 7:40It's really unfair to wish a full 162 on any fan base where
- 7:46there isn't just the slightest shining moment.
- 7:50Like I wouldn't wish that upon really any fan base.
- 7:54Like I I I can really despise your team and and what your team
- 7:58represents. But we miserable for all
- 8:01collectively as baseball fans that we at least have that in
- 8:04common. That like, no matter how bad
- 8:07your team is, I think every fan base is entitled to at least
- 8:12just just a one bright spot. And it this may be it for the
- 8:17Pirates, who's to say how the rest of the season plays out.
- 8:20But this might be this might be the top of the mountain for the
- 8:24Pirate for Pirates fans. So to your point out we it was
- 8:27good to good to see that that buzz around PNC.
- 8:30Yeah, performance wise, I mean I think the biggest thing for me,
- 8:37I think he, I was right about the seven punches, by the way,
- 8:40that that was my one prediction that I got right.
- 8:48Fastball command didn't look great.
- 8:49It seemed like there was definitely some some adrenaline
- 8:55pumping, you know what I mean? There was definitely some
- 8:57overthrown fastballs. It was the first time I heard I
- 9:02I may be late to the game here. I didn't.
- 9:05I was aware of the fastball. I don't know if I was fully
- 9:07aware of the rest of the repertoire, but like this this
- 9:12splinker. It's not a pitch.
- 9:14I was waiting for you to say it. It's not a real pitch.
- 9:17Why do we need to stop? We need to stop.
- 9:21Stop the madness. Like we're We're still trying to
- 9:25wrap our heads around the sweeper movement, because that
- 9:28overnight took over baseball, and now every pitch is a
- 9:31sweeper. I don't think so, I.
- 9:34Hear it every day. Every night that I'm watching
- 9:38baseball, I hear sweeper on pitches that aren't even
- 9:41sweepers. It's a slider, yeah.
- 9:42Just call it a slider, yeah? Don't know what the obsession is
- 9:46with sweeper I I I think the I think the and I'm I'm.
- 9:49Really. Hold on.
- 9:50Hold on to devil's advocate. Like we grew up.
- 9:52Slurve was a very normal there is no animosity towards slur.
- 9:59And yeah, and I'm I, I was just about to say before you mention
- 10:03that I'm not trying to sound like an old head, but like, I
- 10:07think there's an obsession. And it's no, it's really, it's
- 10:11really I, I, I I can see this playing out generation after
- 10:15generation as baseball, as as baseball continues to age, as
- 10:20the game gets older and older and older.
- 10:23Sure, we're going to, we're going to see new things.
- 10:25We're going to see things that have been done, that have never
- 10:27been done before. But you're going to start like
- 10:30running out of things to like leave your mark with like on the
- 10:35game as it like as a as a generation.
- 10:38And so I think this generation's like, oh here's an opportunity
- 10:42where we can inject some newness into the game by just, I don't
- 10:46know, making up pitch names. Sweeper and we're a sweeper.
- 10:51Splinter and we're going to run with it.
- 10:55I Sweeper I I was willing to accept I I'm tired of it.
- 10:59But I I was willing to accept it.
- 11:01But the splinter, I draw the line at Splinter.
- 11:03What is a splinter? I is it not a but honestly
- 11:08genuine question is it not a ball with downward movement?
- 11:11A splitter, A sinker. Both.
- 11:14Both pitches have downward movement.
- 11:16Yeah, swinging over top. What do we talk?
- 11:19I would guess it it's definitely a grip thing.
- 11:24I I mean like I to me my impression of a splitter was
- 11:31definitely a slower fastball, A sinker.
- 11:34You still have fastball velocity that you're typically seeing,
- 11:39but you have a lot more of like this downward and out movement.
- 11:42A splitter, maybe a little bit more.
- 11:44It's less spin. So I I don't know, I don't know.
- 11:48I didn't really catch the velocity he was throwing that
- 11:53at. I don't know.
- 11:55Either way he looked good. The change up is that is that
- 11:58his change up? Is that what he uses as a change
- 12:00up or does he still have a change up?
- 12:02That is a curse, plunky. Yeah, sure.
- 12:07Heard of that before? That is a curveball splitter
- 12:13sinker. Yeah.
- 12:23Yeah, a screwball screwball. It's a yeah, that's what.
- 12:26That's what I was going for. It's a it's a curveball,
- 12:29splitter, sinker, screwball. That's it.
- 12:33That says cursplunky. Yeah, yeah, he is nasty.
- 12:38Don't give a Rocky is really only something you can throw
- 12:40with one of these things. If we're being honest and if
- 12:44you're not watching on the YouTube or on our live stream
- 12:47Holding a junk ball. Holding a junk ball, that's a
- 12:49Chris Plunky. Yeah, to your point, every just
- 12:56about everything else in his repertoire looked good.
- 12:58It was just the fastball command was just not there.
- 13:00And I think coming into it knowing he probably has to know
- 13:05within himself like this is my bread and butter here.
- 13:08So I'm going to rely heavy on this.
- 13:10But if if the nerves are playing any sort of factor, which you
- 13:13venture to say that they were, then maybe you're that if the
- 13:17the pitch that you're relying on the most is going to be the one
- 13:19that's affected the most because you're you're trying to hit your
- 13:22spots. Yeah, and I mean, if you think
- 13:24about it like it's it is you, obviously it's starting pitchers
- 13:28that they have their routine. They have what they're used to
- 13:30on pitch day. They this is all new, right?
- 13:34Like, and on top of all the lights, on top of all the
- 13:36attention, on top of, you know, everyone being excited for you
- 13:41walking into a new locker room. You're putting on a New Jersey,
- 13:45You're going into a new bullpen. You're talking to a new pitching
- 13:48coach. You're talking to a lot of new
- 13:51guys during this routine that you're trying to implement in a
- 13:54new place and new environment on top of being, you know, one of
- 13:58the most hyped debuts we've seen in a decade plus.
- 14:01So it's a lot going on. I wouldn't be nervous.
- 14:05I I don't think any Pirate fan in the world is nervous.
- 14:08I don't think there's any reason to be nervous.
- 14:10Like, it's still a pretty decent outing.
- 14:12Pitch count got a little high, but like, hey, you know, it's
- 14:15all good. I think there was a lot of
- 14:17excitement, blue fastballs and and he made a lot of, he made
- 14:23it. Quite a few guys look a little
- 14:25silly, say say Suzuki was like that.
- 14:28What was that? That's cool to see, man.
- 14:33It's cool to see. The thing that came to mind when
- 14:36I was watching that slider in the cursplunky that he was
- 14:39throwing was the the phrase. If you're familiar with change
- 14:47UPS, pull the string and you really only see that with change
- 14:51UPS from just about any guy that takes them out.
- 14:55But I felt that same sort of feeling watching his slider.
- 15:00Buck just absolutely buckle guys the same way a an effective
- 15:05change up down in a way or or you know tailing in on a guy's
- 15:11shins. It had that same effect, that
- 15:14same feel as I was watching it and I I realized that I'd never,
- 15:18I'd never thought to to to label a breaking pitch as something
- 15:25that could in theory pull the string the same way a change up
- 15:28does. Because they it that that slider
- 15:33was just making guys look silly. Be and I get it.
- 15:36If you're sitting on 102, you're going to look like a fool.
- 15:42I, I watched the College World Series last year and I was like,
- 15:46I I was aware, you know like enter in this the Shack meme.
- 15:50Like I wasn't familiar with your game.
- 15:53Like I knew he was good. I just this stuff to me was
- 15:59insane. Like, I I get it.
- 16:01I I get it. You throw in one O 2 and then
- 16:04you have that kind of velocity drop, that kind of movement.
- 16:11I I feel like every he's a true four pitch guy and all of them
- 16:17are plus pitches like this is going to be special.
- 16:21Just please stay healthy, take care of him.
- 16:29Extend him for a decent amount of money.
- 16:31If you can do what you need to do.
- 16:36Keep him in black and yellow, build around him.
- 16:45For the record, he reached at least 117 times.
- 16:51So of his 84 pitches, give or take a quarter of them, or 100
- 16:58plus. Yeah, I mean they already they
- 17:01they kept showing the graphic. He's of all major leaguers and
- 17:05and minor leaguers this year. He is the highest average
- 17:09fastball of everyone. I saw a lot of guys.
- 17:17I saw something. I mean, I'm it, it was just in
- 17:21passing. So I'm.
- 17:22I may just be butchering or butchering this, but it was
- 17:25something like in the first two innings of an outing or just in
- 17:30in general like this season, starting pitchers in the first
- 17:34two season or first two innings of their outings this season,
- 17:38How many of those were 100 mile an hour plus?
- 17:41And like you had a few guys in there that were like 4567,
- 17:45'cause, you know, like most starting pitchers are going to
- 17:48be like mid to upper 90s. Because we, we don't see a guy
- 17:52like Paul Skeens every day. And I think Paul Skeens total
- 17:55just in one outing, his first, his first Major League outing
- 18:00like more than tripled the rest of the list.
- 18:03Like the guys on the list just in one outing.
- 18:06So to to your point about staying healthy, I I I think
- 18:10this is special and I I certainly do not want to wish
- 18:13anything negatively upon him. But it's, you know, it's the
- 18:18same kind of concern with a guy like Mason Miller where it's
- 18:20like this is special and you just hope that a guy who's in a
- 18:25different position than a guy like Mason Miller as a starter
- 18:28who's going to give you more innings.
- 18:32You just you just hope that that that again to reference our
- 18:36friend of the pod, Dallas Braden.
- 18:38You just hope that that frame, that that build can handle that
- 18:43kind of horsepower over the course of however, however long
- 18:47he ends up going this year and really throughout the course of
- 18:50his career, because he's, he is a special guy.
- 18:52Did you by chance catch any or did you have any takeaways on
- 18:56his demeanor at all throughout the day?
- 18:58Because I I mean, I was watching relatively closely before the
- 19:03game. I was.
- 19:04I tried to catch as much of the pregame show for the Pirates as
- 19:07I could and they were showing, you know, him coming out of
- 19:10dugout, him doing his work out in the outfield.
- 19:12And then obviously throughout the game and even after his
- 19:15outing, he just seemed very what's the word, you know, just
- 19:26level headed, even keeled. He wasn't.
- 19:28You know, he's. A cool He's a cool customer, bro
- 19:30he likes. Showing very little emotion to
- 19:35the point like couldn't even really.
- 19:37I didn't even really see him crack a smile until he got the
- 19:40Gatorade bath I. Was going to say I saw a couple
- 19:42smiles before the game, like him.
- 19:46It showed him like walking into the clubhouse, he had a suit on,
- 19:49like a couple smiles as he's seeing people.
- 19:52But who? Who knows, You know what I mean?
- 19:54Like he could be the Max Scherzer type of like, don't
- 19:56talk to me during my start. Sure I am locked in, but I again
- 20:05like. I think there are names.
- 20:11And and I'm not going to sit here and say I've paid attention
- 20:13to every draft, but I think there are names where you see a
- 20:1611 and you're like, you're a different 11.
- 20:22You know what I mean? Like you're we've seen like a
- 20:25high school shortstop go 11 and you're like, he's in high
- 20:29school. You know what I'm saying?
- 20:30Like it. How is this going to translate
- 20:33seeing 95 everyday because you don't get that in high school
- 20:39this to me was like Skeens is like the most complete package
- 20:4511. And that means like not just arm
- 20:48talent. It's like a up here kind of
- 20:51thing. Like it's it's confidence.
- 20:54You can tell that there's it's somewhat reserved, but there is
- 20:59this swagger at the same time. I'm super impressed.
- 21:04No, I'm super like I he's must watch TV, dude.
- 21:08And I love that he's immediately I I love that he's he didn't go
- 21:18lights out. I love that it wasn't 2 innings.
- 21:21It was like this perfect in between of like you got humbled
- 21:25a little bit but at the same time you didn't have all your
- 21:28best stuff. Like we're going to see a start
- 21:31from him this year. That's, you know, a dominant
- 21:37double digit strikeout, You know, one earn or less 6 plus.
- 21:43Like we're going to see that at least once soon.
- 21:47And I think it's because of what he's got up top in the noggin
- 21:51like he is a cool customer. To kind of put a bow on this,
- 21:57did you, Did you by chance see the tweet from Joey Votto after
- 22:01the fact? I did, yeah.
- 22:03I thought that was pretty cool, he said.
- 22:05Watching Skeens reminds me of facing Strasburg after his call
- 22:09up. I took a fastball in my first
- 22:11AB, looked up and saw 100 on the board.
- 22:14I thought the next pitch, the best curveball I've ever seen.
- 22:18Gulp. Same could be said about the
- 22:21change up later. I was like, and they put a
- 22:23little frowny face emoji. This beautiful game keeps moving
- 22:26forward. Yeah, and that was, what, 15
- 22:30years ago? 14 years ago.
- 22:32So yeah, man, just stay healthy, stay healthy.
- 22:39Keep the mustache clean. Did you see the real quick?
- 22:43Did you see the Livy interview? I saw, she said something along
- 22:49lines of like nothing can top this or whatever.
- 22:51I thought, you know. She started off by saying they
- 22:55missed the call for the call up. Yeah, said they were napping.
- 22:59Whatever that means. I'm not going to.
- 23:01I think we all know I'm not going to dive into their
- 23:04personal lives. That's not my place.
- 23:08But we all know what that means. Stop.
- 23:10No, stop. We're not going to put that.
- 23:12For all we know. Maybe they were napping.
- 23:14I'm just a little skeptical. Not my place to to speculate, I
- 23:18saw. A comment?
- 23:19No, I saw a comment below. That let's keep This is a family
- 23:22show. It's a family show.
- 23:24Let's keep it clean. I was like, bro, we would have
- 23:27all let it go to voicemail. OK.
- 23:29All right. On the Livvie Dunn, Paul Skeens
- 23:33thing and then we'll put a bow. This, this will be the putting
- 23:36the bow on it. Actually, I want to pull it up
- 23:40because I want to make sure I I referenced what I said because
- 23:43it was over the weekend, but it was along the lines of like the
- 23:47the comparison of this being baseball's version of of Taylor
- 23:53Swift and Travis Kelsey, whatever.
- 23:55So I said, y'all better get ready for ML.
- 23:57BS, take on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey can't run.
- 23:59Now it's here because MLB, their official account has posted
- 24:05about it on multiple occasions with, you know, Libby Dunn part
- 24:11of the mix. Meanwhile, sooner it goes like 4
- 24:14years without getting a post. Yeah, which is a whole another
- 24:19thing. And that's actually a good segue
- 24:21'cause we got to talk Braves here.
- 24:22Now look, Braves fans getting upset about the the Ozuna thing.
- 24:28And I get it. I've seen the, I've seen the
- 24:30screenshots of Post on like Ohtani and and other names
- 24:34around like even the Mets getting some exclamation points.
- 24:38To your credit though, I will say if you remove the the
- 24:43individual from the equation and if you don't know what I'm
- 24:46talking about, basically Braves fans are upset that Marcelo Zuna
- 24:51is getting little to no attention from from, we'll call
- 24:56it mainstream baseball media, specifically ML, BS, social
- 25:00media accounts. Despite having a fantastic start
- 25:04to the year I think I just saw that he's like the fastest
- 25:07Braves players since like Hank Aaron to reach 40 RB is in the
- 25:11season so elite company. But and basically what Braves
- 25:18fans are saying they're they're taking screenshots of different
- 25:21posts of of different stars around the league who are also
- 25:24playing you know Mookie Shohei other guys like that and and
- 25:28citing various posts regarding walk off wins and things like
- 25:32that. And they're comparing they're
- 25:34they're honing in on the the punctuation which I think is
- 25:40fascinating as somebody who does social media for a living
- 25:44they're they're on to something because a lot of people who
- 25:47don't necessarily understand the the art of crafting social media
- 25:53posts they just look at that and go OK so they use an exclamation
- 25:56point for a post about Mookie and they didn't for Marcelo
- 25:59Zuna. So what?
- 26:02Just just no. And I I do it for a living.
- 26:06I'm not necessarily, I'm not I'm not going to sit here and call
- 26:08myself a pros pro, but just just know that no social media post
- 26:13put out by a major organization like that is done haphazardly.
- 26:18Every post that's put out is done with intent and if there's
- 26:22a period put at the end, which that.
- 26:24If if you're on social media, periods of being are being
- 26:30ushered out like those periods, like that's.
- 26:33Pretty negative, yeah. Yeah, that's the thing.
- 26:36You know, people associated with like boomers and texting like
- 26:39the the way they, the way they use punctuation.
- 26:42So periods are being ushered out.
- 26:44So if a if a major organization who posts everything with intent
- 26:47is using periods in their post, just know that it's done an with
- 26:53with intent. So brace fans, you're right on
- 26:55that. But at the end of the day,
- 26:58bringing the individual back into the picture, you have to
- 27:01understand why Major League Baseball has kind of gone radio
- 27:04silent on Marcello's you know, over the last handful of years.
- 27:07It makes sense. We we understand it.
- 27:11With that said though, talking Braves they, Max Reed and
- 27:17company I'll include almost had a no hitter over the weekend
- 27:21against the Mets. Came down to a JD Martinez home
- 27:26run with I believe was it. Yeah it was 2 outs in the 9th
- 27:30and JD said not on my watch but look this this is just another
- 27:39opportunity to remind the people if you're new to our our show,
- 27:43welcome. But if you are wondering our our
- 27:49thought, if you're wondering about our thoughts on no hitters
- 27:53and what what constitutes a no hitter.
- 27:56A no hitter is when a single individual takes the ball for
- 28:01the start and then proceeds to throw 9 innings of no hit
- 28:06baseball. That's a no hitter combined.
- 28:09No hitter is not a no hitter. It's a no hitter, but it's not a
- 28:14no hitter. If you know, you know and people
- 28:20always say, what are you talking about?
- 28:21That doesn't even make sense. My my response to that if it's a
- 28:29no hitter, then who gets credited with the no hitter?
- 28:33I said that countless times on here, but I just need to
- 28:36reiterate, maybe if you forgot, or if you're new, if it's a no
- 28:41hitter, if you truly believe a combined no hitter is a no
- 28:44hitter, then who gets credited with the no hitter?
- 28:47It's not a no hitter. It's a no hitter, but it's not a
- 28:49no hitter. All right.
- 28:50I need to stop saying no hitter but main takeaways here.
- 28:58Continuing to move the needle forward for Max Freed who again
- 29:03had a little bit of a slower start than maybe some of his
- 29:06counterparts across the league. His Ace slash #1 counterparts.
- 29:12But a a fantastic outing for him an an added element to the
- 29:20Braves Mets rivalry. I don't care what which fan base
- 29:25wants to pretend that it's not a rivalry.
- 29:27We we know that these teams hate each other.
- 29:29So let's not act like it's a it's a Big Brother, little
- 29:32brother thing here. I mean sure, in terms of
- 29:34standings it is, but you both care just as much as the other
- 29:38team does. So let's it's it's not a them.
- 29:41It's not them being a little brother it's that's not what
- 29:44it's about. All in all, though, one of the
- 29:53other takeaways from this weekend.
- 29:57I mean, there's really only only so much you can say about an
- 29:59almost combined no hitter. Yeah.
- 30:03How do you feel about the Mets, the Mets black unis while I'm
- 30:06thinking of it? What did they change?
- 30:11It's like the orange they. Got rid of the they got rid of
- 30:13the white, they got rid of the white in the outline.
- 30:17And then they made, they made the the lettering.
- 30:20I think they're still OK. I still, they're still clean.
- 30:23I wouldn't say they're as clean. They're still clean.
- 30:29Yeah, I mean, I that's just another instance of why fix it
- 30:35if it's not broken. And here we have Andrew in the
- 30:38chat. Santa is one of the biggest
- 30:39Braves fans and your fan base, I wasn't even slightly excited
- 30:42about the combined. No, no.
- 30:43The almost combined no, no. Andrew.
- 30:47Yeah. So there you go.
- 30:47It's it's take, take that as you will.
- 30:52It's it's certainly an encouraging step forward for
- 30:57that staff. Like that's a great take away.
- 30:59Andrew can. Get paid, dude.
- 31:01If he can stay on this, he's going to get paid.
- 31:04If he can keep this going, I'm a little confused as to why the
- 31:08Braves aren't like. Why aren't there bigger
- 31:13conversations there? There might be some concerns
- 31:17with a. Little butthurt about the
- 31:19injuries, I think maybe. Well, I mean, I don't know if
- 31:22I'd call it butthurt. I would just call it like a
- 31:25smart business, smart business move to maybe proceed with
- 31:30caution when dealing with a guy like Max Reed.
- 31:33I mean, I I look, I'm not. I'm not.
- 31:35I'm not Alex Anthropolis here. But even to to dumb it down to
- 31:40the level of like, fantasy baseball, I'm I like there.
- 31:44There really no stakes there. All things considered, like
- 31:47comparatively to major like running an actual franchise,
- 31:50there's really no stakes in running a fantasy baseball team.
- 31:53But even somebody like me is hesitant to to like look for a
- 31:58trade for a guy like Max Reed because it's like how like how
- 32:01much how much you were going to get out of him, Like can he stay
- 32:05healthy. So it's like if if that's how
- 32:07like a fancy baseball owner and I'm not saying I'm every fantasy
- 32:11baseball owner, but like for me if I if that's how I'm thinking,
- 32:14it's possible that you know they're thinking the same way
- 32:16when dealing with millions of dollars in multi year future.
- 32:21I I spent a lot of hours on my line up so I think it's the
- 32:26same. You're right.
- 32:28The stakes, the stakes are, you could argue, higher.
- 32:31Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like a lot of bathroom visits
- 32:34have have been filled with line up time, so.
- 32:40I'm keep I mean we we've got some good prizes down like
- 32:45waiting for the waiting for the final four that's all I.
- 32:47Do I did grab a little nugget that I saw.
- 32:52It's maybe a little bit of an ESPN nugget, but it is what it
- 32:55is. Max Freed is the first Braves
- 32:57pitcher with two 6 plus inning, no hit bids in a three star span
- 33:06in a single season since Kevin Millwood of 1999.
- 33:09So hot lately you like to see it.
- 33:15And again, it's like, I think it's the best case scenario when
- 33:21Strider goes down, somebody that has that stuff, somebody that
- 33:26can step into that, that one one role, right?
- 33:34Like you're feeling pretty good. Like it's not too many teams out
- 33:38there could be like you just lost a potential Cy Young winner
- 33:43this year and then you have the blow softened by a Max Reed.
- 33:51I think it's kind of nice Braves fans stay winning, dude.
- 33:54Like that's they have nothing to complain about.
- 33:57Ever so. Speaking of complaining, I have
- 34:02AI have a slight complaint. Or really it's a question, is
- 34:06Paige in the other room streaming like 64 movies at
- 34:10once? Because you're, I got to say,
- 34:13your Internet. That's crazy.
- 34:16I mean it's like 3 pixels. I'll show you.
- 34:22You look like a Minecraft. Character.
- 34:24Oh boy, I don't think I'm going to have to switch internets.
- 34:29I mean not to draw attention to it.
- 34:31But it's popping off right now when you do the test popping
- 34:35off. It doesn't make any sense.
- 34:37I don't know what's going on with your Internet.
- 34:39But I don't know either. I have 590 megabits per second
- 34:43going right now. That means nothing to me.
- 34:46I I don't know if that's good or bad.
- 34:49That's, that's fast. I think we got some, got to have
- 34:53some nerds in here that know what that means.
- 34:56That's fast. I'll take your word for it.
- 34:59Upload speed of 30 also fast. Doesn't make any sense.
- 35:04I don't know what's going on. Anyway, I just needed to address
- 35:07it. Needed to address it.
- 35:10To answer your question, I think it's either Hawaii Life on Hulu
- 35:15or there's a Disney Plus classic Disney movie going on back
- 35:22there. One of the two I can understand
- 35:24it. I I can't judge.
- 35:26Yeah. I respect it.
- 35:31Mike Trout Some recent developments over the weekend
- 35:36regarding his injury that apparently he still doesn't even
- 35:40know how he got like we're how many weeks deep into this now I.
- 35:44Don't know, I'm not very. Months, it feels like.
- 35:50Apparently was given. Yeah, he was given the option to
- 35:56DH for the rest of the year and he said no, I'm going to opt for
- 36:04the surgery. I I don't necessarily feel one
- 36:11way or another towards it, but I felt like it was worth
- 36:14addressing, worth bringing up. Because I just feel like the
- 36:19Angels as a franchise have had some, I don't know, like is
- 36:27intimate the right word, like things deserving to stay behind
- 36:31closed doors. Conversations of that nature
- 36:36made public. And I just feel like this was
- 36:40something that maybe was better off left unsaid, where it's
- 36:46like, OK, we process the fact that we're losing out on Mike
- 36:50Trout of, well, swinging Mike Trout as he was off to a a a
- 36:57rather hot start, at least in the home run category.
- 37:03We'd process as as Angels fans, as baseball fans.
- 37:06We had all kind of collectively process the fact that, all
- 37:09right, we lost that on this guy yet again.
- 37:12And then to come back and hear that OK, he was given a choice.
- 37:17He said I don't want to play. It's it's I don't know.
- 37:21I'm, I don't want to compare him to Anthony Rendon.
- 37:23But it's just it's it's giving me Anthony Rendon vibes where,
- 37:28you know, I'm I'm, I'm not expecting him to play.
- 37:30Like if the tear is that bad of the meniscus I'm not going to
- 37:35sit there and be like why is he out there playing.
- 37:37But I don't know. I just feel like this was going
- 37:41back to my original point this. I feel like this would have been
- 37:43left better unsaid because now it's like, whoa, where's where's
- 37:49his effort? Where do his efforts really lie?
- 37:51And like does he actually want to be out there playing if given
- 37:54the opportunity to play at a a lesser availability as a DHI?
- 38:04Don't know. It just it's it feels weird to
- 38:06me and I hate that this came out.
- 38:14Does that make sense? Does like what I said makes
- 38:16sense or am I? Am I going crazy?
- 38:18Yeah, I mean I understand. What am I missing here?
- 38:25I don't know. That he that there was an option
- 38:28to not do surgery and and play like half OK or do surgery and
- 38:37you're for sure out like what am I missing here?
- 38:39What what was like the actual like how did this get out?
- 38:44Was this a tweet? Was this like a leaked per
- 38:47source type thing? You know.
- 38:50Like I looked up passing. I didn't see anything from
- 38:52passing. No, let's get to the bottom.
- 38:54How confirmed was this? Where did where?
- 38:58I remember seeing something about it, but I don't know if it
- 39:02was from like a legit source, you know?
- 39:04What I mean, he put, he put out the post.
- 39:06He put out the tweet or may have been on a story as well, I don't
- 39:09know. But he put out on May 4th, so a
- 39:13week or week in a day or so. Plus he said thank you for all
- 39:18your sport encouragement. The surgery on my knee went well
- 39:21and I'm focused. I'm now focused on speedy
- 39:22recovery. Looking forward to getting back
- 39:24out there as soon as possible. So that was on the 4th.
- 39:27And then I I don't know. I it must have been reported
- 39:32because it, as you know, Mike Trout is not active really, on
- 39:36social media, except tweeting plain emojis when they're going
- 39:39on a road trip. So we when that was happening.
- 39:43So that's really all, all we've heard about.
- 39:45But so it must have been reported.
- 39:46And like, again, ultimately it's not a huge deal because if if
- 39:51and when he comes back this year, like we'll forget this
- 39:54even happened. It's just it's it's for me at
- 39:57least. I'm not saying I'm not speaking
- 39:58for everybody. For me, at least, it just it
- 40:02speaks to the whole MO of the angels that seems to be
- 40:10conversations being made public that really shouldn't be made
- 40:15public handlings of injuries in just the weirdest of ways.
- 40:22I I don't know, like why? Why was Mike Trott even given
- 40:26the option? And like if you're the angels
- 40:29and he has a torn meniscus, Like if if he's if it's bad enough to
- 40:32where he can't play and we know this dude's history, why is he
- 40:37even being given the option to DH?
- 40:38Who? Who is that benefiting?
- 40:41I've had a torn meniscus and that sucked.
- 40:45So the biggest decision, the biggest decision and like here's
- 40:50where things could be affected long term.
- 40:53And I'm saying this from first hand experience because like I'd
- 40:55literally, I had a bucket handle tearing my meniscus.
- 40:57I did it playing baseball. They give you 2 options with the
- 41:01meniscus, unlike the other tendons.
- 41:04It's either fix it and repair it, but you have a longer
- 41:10recovery time. Like you have to be off of it.
- 41:13You can't really like, you have to be immobilized, like there's
- 41:17not. It has to be repaired.
- 41:19It takes time or it's scoop it out.
- 41:23You don't technically need the meniscus.
- 41:25Let's just scoop it out and that is where the long term issues
- 41:30come in. My doctor where I was lucky
- 41:35enough to do like the I had a the Bronco surgeon when I was in
- 41:38Denver and he was like you're I mean you're going to have
- 41:43arthritis if we if we scoop it out like that's coming.
- 41:46But like if you're going to continue to be an athlete and
- 41:48trying to do stuff like it could feel like crap quicker than you
- 41:53think. So that's what I'm curious of is
- 41:55if he does do the surgery like is it repaired or are they
- 41:59scooping it out. But overall with this yeah I
- 42:05agree this is all weird. Like I don't understand.
- 42:10I know different tears are different for different people
- 42:13but like I I don't know dude I couldn't walk.
- 42:17Like I just trying to pull my cleat off and it felt like
- 42:21someone was pulling my leg off. It was.
- 42:23I don't know. He was quoted as saying it was
- 42:27an option that in regards to giving the option to DA, she
- 42:32said it was an option that they put out there, they being the
- 42:35team, it would have been just maintaining the pain level of
- 42:39it. I said the day I got the MRI and
- 42:42it showed that it was that I was in a lot of pain.
- 42:47It would have been a tough Rd. for the rest of the year to bear
- 42:50that. And for people saying, well, to
- 42:56my question, like, who is that benefiting?
- 42:58If he's just the agent, like yeah, and he's he's on one leg,
- 43:01who is his benefiting? I have the answer for you 'cause
- 43:04you go, well, it would benefit the team because Mike Trout was
- 43:07playing so well. Got a little nugget here for
- 43:09you. In 1518 career games he has been
- 43:16the DH only 81 times and is hitting 214.
- 43:21So you're that's that's multi level there.
- 43:25One, you're getting a guy who doesn't perform the same when
- 43:32he's just TH and he had. He's one of those guys that has
- 43:35to be fully immersed into the game on both sides of the ball
- 43:38to be fully there, it seems. 81 games is a is a fair amount of
- 43:42exactly sample size. Yeah, and not all guys are,
- 43:46yeah, not all guys are like that.
- 43:48Some guys like just being ADH and that's where they that's
- 43:50where they they they focus. I mean, look at look at what
- 43:53Shohei's doing. But you're not only getting the
- 43:55guy who's clearly worse as ADH, you're getting a guy who's going
- 43:59to who would be ADH on one leg. So I don't know it's.
- 44:04Just what I That's what I was trying to ask of like like why
- 44:08was this question asked? Was this a question that, like
- 44:13what? Was this some type of report
- 44:15that was leaked out of the Angels organization to a
- 44:19reporter? Like, why was this ever on the
- 44:21table? Because like otherwise, the
- 44:23Angels have no need to come forward with this.
- 44:26If he does opt for the surgery, it's like, don't say there was
- 44:30another option. It is.
- 44:31It's not. I don't think it's important or
- 44:33relevant or productive. You want to talk about?
- 44:39Your surgery. You want to talk about
- 44:42productive. We have arrived at this point in
- 44:49the program where I think me, the listeners, no need to
- 44:58collectively come together. We need to band together to
- 45:02demand an apology from Mr. Nate Reyes.
- 45:07No. Addressed to Mr. Joe Adele?
- 45:12No. At what point is the apology
- 45:15coming? Because he he deserves it.
- 45:18He deserves the Albert Pujols. I'm not about to he which was.
- 45:21Wild, wild how we didn't get an apology.
- 45:26I think you maybe had said something, but it was the most
- 45:29half hearted. Sarcastic.
- 45:31Yeah, it was the most half hearted, sarcastic apology in
- 45:34the history of apologies. And that's saying something
- 45:36because we've seen some pretty bad apologies out there.
- 45:40And Joe Adele's a bonehead. I'm not apologizing to anybody.
- 45:44I'm not. He's like Enter.
- 45:46He's like the. Enter the Conor McGregor meme,
- 45:48I'm. Apologizing to nobody.
- 45:52I get that, what happened, But he's like the best player on the
- 45:57team, which is sad, but I mean, he's in the mix, he's in the
- 46:02conversation. Have you seen, Because all we're
- 46:04seeing is highlights of him hitting and we all knew we could
- 46:07hit. Have you seen him play defense?
- 46:09Have you seen him run the bases this year?
- 46:12It's insane what he does on the base paths.
- 46:15It's. Hard.
- 46:17To watch, I don't care about that.
- 46:20I demand an apology. I demand 260, No 64.
- 46:29He's in 264. He has seven home runs, 18
- 46:34ribbies, an OPS of 873, and he has an OPS plus of 142.
- 46:39And he's just heating up. He's just heating up this this
- 46:44man Nate has been. If If you're unfamiliar with
- 46:47this, Nate has been hating on Joe Adele for years.
- 46:53For years. So random too, like I don't even
- 46:56know that much about him, I. Don't.
- 46:57Yeah, there was just, I don't know what it was.
- 46:59There was just a day where Nate picked up his banner.
- 47:03He's like anti Joe Adele banner and was like I'm going to fly
- 47:06this for as long as I live and 'cause.
- 47:08We were like, we kept hearing about him and then I was like,
- 47:10what? What's so special?
- 47:11I'm not seeing it and I didn't. He was.
- 47:13Like for the first couple of call UPS?
- 47:14He's not a top prospect. I'm done hearing about it.
- 47:19This guy stinks. I think that's when we went to
- 47:22the Angels Stadium in spring training.
- 47:24I think that's what it. Was it may have been yeah he may
- 47:27have been little influenced by by our visit I don't know.
- 47:30But it it was so unnecessary. Like it if passing.
- 47:34Like, yeah, I don't really think Joe Dell's all, like, great, I
- 47:37wouldn't Me and the listeners wouldn't be demanding an
- 47:40apology. But you have been actively
- 47:42rooting against this guy. Like, actively rooting against
- 47:45this guy and now he's playing he's playing adequate ball.
- 47:50So like, what more is this? OK, let me ask you this
- 47:53question. At what, at what point, what,
- 47:57what level of performance would warrant an apology?
- 48:00Because you you didn't. You barely apologized to a a a
- 48:04shoe and Hall of Famer and Albert Pujols.
- 48:06So is Joe Adele going to have to go on to be like the next Willie
- 48:11Mays to maybe get a consideration from you years
- 48:14down the road? I don't know.
- 48:17If he hits 260 or. Above with.
- 48:24Over. 850 OPS. In over 20 jacks this year then?
- 48:34I'll apologize. Those are my stipulations.
- 48:37Well, he's well on the way. He's well on the way to that.
- 48:39'Cause he's hitting 264, he's got an 873 OPS and he's how many
- 48:43jacks? You say 20?
- 48:46OK, well. He has nearly.
- 48:48Seven. And it's middle.
- 48:50It's. I've also seen this guy look
- 48:51like Giancarlo Stanton at times. So like.
- 48:53I I know where the the streaks are are coming that's I just
- 48:58yeah. Well if you're if you watch if
- 49:01you've ever watched the guy try and run bases like there's
- 49:05literally clips of Ron Washington being like what Oh I
- 49:09get it. I in.
- 49:10Fact we may have even referenced in one of those incidents on
- 49:14here recently I I so I get that I'm not.
- 49:18I'm not trying to justify the rest of his game.
- 49:20I'm just saying I'm not apologizing till the end of the
- 49:23season. OK, well, I'm.
- 49:25Not even going to remember it by the end of the season, so unless
- 49:28I make some sort of put some sort of you write it down,
- 49:30there's any angels. Fans in here?
- 49:33Doubtful, but if there are any in here, OK, feel free to mix
- 49:36in. You know, write it down.
- 49:38Keep. The receipts.
- 49:39Hey, talking about keeping receipts.
- 49:42There's some haters out there of Aaron judges that need to need
- 49:47to acknowledge the receipts a little bit.
- 49:49They need to. They need to put some Yankee
- 49:51fans too. Yankee fans.
- 49:53Yeah, they need to come. They need to step forward and
- 49:56admit their, admit their faults and their wrongs here.
- 50:00Because I hate to say it, but Aaron Judge is back.
- 50:06Yeah. Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 50:10Do you care to expand? It was.
- 50:13Just a matter of time. And I again like.
- 50:20I don't know what that point I don't think.
- 50:22It's fair to say there's a universal point where if you
- 50:25miss spring training time, you get this much time in the
- 50:28regular season and at that point you should be who you are.
- 50:32I know I said like last week that like my rule is by the end
- 50:36of May, I think we kind of see who you are for the year as a
- 50:40hitter, even as a starter. Like you're you're at that point
- 50:44like 1011 starts in like I think we see who you are.
- 50:48So I don't think it's. Fair to say.
- 50:52Like, hey, he missed a chunk of spring training, but he had all
- 50:56of April to figure it out and he still didn't figure it out.
- 51:00I I don't know. I don't think there's a rule.
- 51:02The truth is the guy just. Didn't seem right his.
- 51:06Timing was a little off. It wasn't anything different
- 51:09mechanically like he he hasn't changed anything.
- 51:14I think I saw something. They did a breakdown on MLB
- 51:16Network where like over the last three years what is slugging
- 51:20percentage was with pitches in the middle of the of the of the
- 51:24zone and the slugging was like 12113 hundred.
- 51:31Like all of them were above 1000, which is insane for just
- 51:34slugging, not OPS, it was just slugging of pitches down the
- 51:38middle. This year it was like slugging
- 51:40was like in the four hundreds with pitches down the.
- 51:44Middle and. You see the drop off and you're
- 51:47like, that's still. Crazy, Because that's still not.
- 51:50Even that bad, You know what I'm saying?
- 51:52And then all of a sudden you you saw him flip a switch.
- 51:56There was all it takes. When you catch him starting go
- 51:59the other way. When you see home runs the other
- 52:02way, it it. He'll work his.
- 52:05Way up, because early in the season was a lot of rollovers.
- 52:08It's this stat that we all know. He's leading the league in
- 52:11double plays and it's just roll over the shortstop, roll over
- 52:14the shortstop, and all of a sudden you'll watch ground balls
- 52:16in the second baseman, then the line drives over the 2nd
- 52:18baseman, then a home run to right field and then you'll
- 52:21sprinkle in a absolute tank job that was 470 to left center.
- 52:27And you're like, I think you're. Back, Sir.
- 52:31And it's been against some dudes, It's been against, it's
- 52:34been against some guys. Why am I blanking on who we did
- 52:38last week? It's a really good starter.
- 52:44Who's this? What was the series before the
- 52:45Rays? It was in Yankee Stadium.
- 52:48I don't remember Tigers. It was.
- 52:52Scubal That's who it was. It was scubal once.
- 52:55He took schoolyard to right field.
- 52:59It was like all right then then, then it's just been poured on
- 53:02since. Then yeah, like all the guys,
- 53:08all. The all the Yankees fans that
- 53:09are like, you know, move Soto down to the three spot, switch
- 53:13them, get judged some more protection like all this stuff,
- 53:17you know, it's just, it's just been pitch selection.
- 53:20It's just been getting on time and making pitchers pay for
- 53:25those pitches in the middle. I don't like randomly.
- 53:31Inserting tangents like this. But I know I'm going to forget.
- 53:37About it, But you mentioned you mentioned dudes, and I'm not
- 53:44saying this guy. Is a dude, I think.
- 53:46It's well documented that the career has has taken a dip and
- 53:51we don't know if it's coming back up, but we are all about
- 53:55accountability on this podcast and I won't speak for you, but I
- 53:59got to put the hand up and acknowledge because we we kick.
- 54:04Him when he's down. He had a good outing today, so
- 54:06we have to acknowledge it. Alec Manoa, There you go.
- 54:09I was wondering. If this was coming because like
- 54:12if you're pushing me for an apology I I don't know that's
- 54:17like that's been. A lot.
- 54:19No, no, no, no. The Joe.
- 54:22The Joe Adele. Just slander.
- 54:25It's very pointed, very targeted for some reason.
- 54:29I don't know why, don't know where it came from, don't know
- 54:31what it sent from. But this we're both on the same
- 54:34page. Like I don't have anything
- 54:36against Joe Adele. I mean, I I agree with you on
- 54:38certain certain points about his career trajectory and all that,
- 54:43but collected you and I are both on on board that Manoa's all but
- 54:50washed. So I think, I think we both have
- 54:54to maybe put our hands up on this one and say, you know, I
- 54:57got it, let's get a good start. He had a good.
- 54:59Start. He had a good start.
- 55:02Hey, all but that. And I think it's just a.
- 55:05Three run shot that he gave up in the 7th like that was like
- 55:08the only blemish. But why am I seeing and?
- 55:11I'm saying I'm. Asking this 'cause I certainly
- 55:13didn't spend any time driving down the road today watching an
- 55:17Alec Manoa start. Even if I wasn't on a 10 hour
- 55:20road trip, I I wasn't going to tune into an Alec Manoa start.
- 55:22But why am I seeing that he he gave?
- 55:26Up three runs but. None of it.
- 55:28He had Nowhere in runs was it a? Was it a home run?
- 55:32Could have been I. It was a home run, I for sure
- 55:36know that. Trying to remember who hit it.
- 55:40Who are they facing? Who they play?
- 55:42Am I losing my mind? How?
- 55:44Can you how can you give up a? The only thing is I can think of
- 55:47of. Like if there's two outs and
- 55:50there's an error. Like.
- 55:55Oh, it's Well, it's possible it wasn't.
- 55:56After that doesn't doesn't do. It I thought I saw the
- 56:00highlight. Who do you?
- 56:02Who'd they face? Twins.
- 56:08Oh, the team, Yeah. Sorry, I I.
- 56:10Blanked out. The twins.
- 56:11Yeah. Yeah, they're playing twins.
- 56:12Carlos Santana. Yeah.
- 56:20Yeah, yeah. Four hits.
- 56:21No. One runs.
- 56:24Did he? Who the heck did he hit it off
- 56:29of? What's happening here?
- 56:31You mean who hit it off of him? No, Carlos Santana hit.
- 56:35It. I just want to see why.
- 56:40Was it off of? Him.
- 56:42And if so, please hold. Let me Let me mute this puppy.
- 56:45No commercials here. No free ads.
- 56:48No free ads. Not in this.
- 56:49Place Do you see the cornrows? Braids I did.
- 56:56I hate it. Hey man, whatever.
- 56:59Whatever works. Man, whatever you got to do to
- 57:02to get the mojo back. I mean, I yeah, I'm not going to
- 57:041st and 3rd. There's a 2O count 2 outs off of
- 57:08Manoa. Three run shot.
- 57:14I don't know either way. All in all, pretty good day.
- 57:18Pretty good bounce back. So I I'm on record now.
- 57:21I can't. I can't be held against me.
- 57:22I'm on record now is acknowledging that Alec Manoa,
- 57:25despite our our many grievances, had a good outing.
- 57:29It looked like a backup. Slider that was like 3 inches
- 57:33off the plate and he pulled the right center.
- 57:36So not even like that. You can't even be upset about
- 57:40that. Whatever they.
- 57:42Still lost. Can't stand the Blue Jays
- 57:44anyway. Can you stand the Guardian City
- 57:50Connect Unis? Unpopular opinion.
- 57:55I kind of like them. Dude.
- 57:56I kind of like them, dude. I kind of like them.
- 58:01No gradient color fade and. No colored pants.
- 58:04How about it? And I got to.
- 58:06Say like this is a weird like. I mean, I'm not saying people
- 58:11that didn't play baseball can't have the same opinion.
- 58:13But for me, it it it goes back to like something I would have
- 58:17liked when I was playing out of war.
- 58:19That happened. But the piping, yeah.
- 58:22Like it's very it's very like, oddly specific.
- 58:24But the the, the I saw that a lot of people were comparing it
- 58:28to the piping that they used in the Major League movie.
- 58:30That's exactly what I. Thought the second I saw it.
- 58:33Dude the like the. Second, I saw it the tricolor.
- 58:36Whatever. Piping.
- 58:37Oh, that looks clean. That looks clean.
- 58:39I would have liked to see my only.
- 58:41Issue is, I would have liked to seen a different hat logo.
- 58:45Yeah, agree. You can't.
- 58:47That's, that's that's such a cop.
- 58:48Out because that's the same. That's the same C, right.
- 58:52It's no different than the other CS they put on.
- 58:55Yeah, yeah, their other. Hats.
- 58:58I'd like to see in something in like I understand PR wise if you
- 59:02don't want to go back to like an Indian reference, but like you
- 59:05could have thrown in something for the slot the spiders in
- 59:07there, you know what I mean? Like something could have been
- 59:11done with the We've talked about that, the spiders.
- 59:14Were the spiders? Were cheeks.
- 59:16Man, I know the spiders were booty.
- 59:19Meat. I don't know.
- 59:20Still something of. Of Cleveland.
- 59:22But the sea. Yeah, wasn't a fan of the sea,
- 59:24but the the overall jersey. Worked for me, the overall
- 59:30uniform. The pants, the piping is is
- 59:33great. The.
- 59:35Piping's top tier. Hey, we're all about
- 59:37accountability this. Episode.
- 59:38You know, Nike has been whoever, I don't care anymore.
- 59:42Whoever's responsible for making these fucking fanatics.
- 59:45Whoever's truly at the end of the day, responsible for
- 59:48designing these things. Nike fanatics.
- 59:51I blame AI some 12. Year old over in.
- 59:54China. I don't know dude.
- 59:55They got some shady business going on in Nike.
- 59:57I don't know who's designing these these uniforms but they've
- 59:59been it's been L after L it seems for the majority of these
- 1:00:03uniforms. But you know this this most
- 1:00:06recent drop the Guardians they they they they did well.
- 1:00:11Also, I didn't know Kid Cudi was from.
- 1:00:13Cleveland so learned something new there, too.
- 1:00:15They lean. They lean into that all.
- 1:00:17The time they really they make that known.
- 1:00:20You only. Have so many, You know what I
- 1:00:21mean? It's either.
- 1:00:22Braun or somebody. Else I can't name anybody.
- 1:00:26From Cleveland, I guess. The Kelsey brothers, I think.
- 1:00:30Hold on. Standby one of my One of my
- 1:00:33favorite actors is. Wait, no, he's not from.
- 1:00:40Cleveland Why is he a Cleveland fan?
- 1:00:42Tom Hanks. I remember watching a game last
- 1:00:45year where they had him up in the booth and he was talking.
- 1:00:48He was talking. Is he and he?
- 1:00:53That's that's right. He also like voiced.
- 1:00:55He was in the when they unveiled the Guardian's team name.
- 1:00:59He was, I think, one of the voiceovers for that video.
- 1:01:02I don't. There's some sort of connection
- 1:01:06there I. Don't know, but yeah, they were
- 1:01:08Tom Hanks movie. Go.
- 1:01:12I'll save him, Private Ryan. I mean, you can't.
- 1:01:14You can't top that. But yeah, my my only question
- 1:01:18about the the jersey, it's not really a complaint, it's more of
- 1:01:21a question. I saw that they were trying,
- 1:01:22they they were with certain elements of the uniform, trying
- 1:01:28to draw connections to the guardians of the OR the Indians
- 1:01:31of the 90s. And I'm like the piping gave.
- 1:01:35Me that feel? No, but like they, I think they.
- 1:01:38Actively, were they? They included that in their
- 1:01:41verbiage that like they're trying to make.
- 1:01:44It wasn't like speculation. I think they actively said that
- 1:01:47they were like trying to draw connections in or parallels to
- 1:01:49the 90s. But I'm like.
- 1:01:53That's not like a city connect. Thing though, like I'm I'm all
- 1:01:56for it because the 90s Indians were elite.
- 1:01:59So I'm not, like, hating on the fact that you're trying to like
- 1:02:01bring that era back through these uniforms, but it's like.
- 1:02:06Because of me. Going, my juice is flowing a.
- 1:02:08Little bit with the some names that are just oh man some Tommy
- 1:02:13days. Albert Bell, Manny Ramirez.
- 1:02:15The team was elite. But yeah, I'm just like, that's
- 1:02:20not really like a city thing. It's more of like a franchise
- 1:02:23thing. I don't know it it wasn't a
- 1:02:25complaint. It was more of just a question.
- 1:02:26That's all. Also, like I don't know if I've
- 1:02:29said. This before, but like, did the
- 1:02:31sponsorship patches really need to be on those two?
- 1:02:35Can we relax? Yeah, they do.
- 1:02:39You and I both. Know that they have to be on
- 1:02:41there. And it's silly.
- 1:02:43To even ask. So are we done?
- 1:02:49Was that like or is it just Yankees A's that are like,
- 1:02:52boycotting them? I.
- 1:02:57Think it's we. I mean we got to be close,
- 1:03:01right? What are we missing have?
- 1:03:06The Cardinals done one. I don't think the Cardinals done
- 1:03:09one. I I usually can find like a
- 1:03:15checklist when I search it. I can't seem to find one right
- 1:03:19now, but. But yeah, we, I mean, we got to
- 1:03:25be close. There's maybe like one left this
- 1:03:30year. I feel like it's the Cardinals.
- 1:03:35It, yeah. Yeah, I think you're.
- 1:03:37Right. I think the Cardinals Yeah, we
- 1:03:39haven't. Seen one from the Cardinals yet?
- 1:03:42Unless I'm losing my mind. And I think after that we got to
- 1:03:46be, got to be nearing the finish line.
- 1:03:53Oh, here we go there. We go, Nope, that's last year.
- 1:03:57Keep going, move forward. Oh, here we go.
- 1:04:00Yeah, we got Cardinals on May 20th, so that's coming up.
- 1:04:06Oh, that. It had the Guardians listed at
- 1:04:08on May 17th, So that was for sure a leak.
- 1:04:11And then just like, good for the organization recognizing the
- 1:04:14leak and just being like, whatever, let's just release it
- 1:04:16early. Yeah, we got Cardinals May 20th,
- 1:04:22Blue Jays May 30th. Oh, OK.
- 1:04:25Twins. June 14th.
- 1:04:27Dodgers June 21st. Oh, right, the Dodgers are
- 1:04:30doing. Like a revamp or whatever, yeah?
- 1:04:33Good. Good on them for recognizing
- 1:04:35that the 1st. The first attempt sucked.
- 1:04:39Not good. Hey, Speaking of.
- 1:04:41Sucked. The A's have been talk about
- 1:04:45booty meet. The A's have been straight booty
- 1:04:48meet since we started this little wager.
- 1:04:52Let me check what the latest is. They are currently, they're.
- 1:04:55Halfway through their. 14 game stretch and they.
- 1:04:59Are two and five. So some quick math here.
- 1:05:09They would have to go. Five and two this week.
- 1:05:14How you feeling pal? How you feeling pal?
- 1:05:23Well. Let me let me check who.
- 1:05:25Who? Who do we?
- 1:05:27I'll say we The Who do we? The Oakland A's have coming up
- 1:05:30Astros, Do they? Really.
- 1:05:34Yep, starts, starts Monday. And then we got the Royals on
- 1:05:42the road. Oh man.
- 1:05:45We're on the. Road for the next six games.
- 1:05:51That's like 90. Percent.
- 1:05:53Of the remainder of the wager, we got three against the Astros
- 1:05:57on the road, four against the Astros on the road.
- 1:05:59Oh shoot, we're on the road for the I keep saying we the A's are
- 1:06:03on the road for the next seven games.
- 1:06:06For the remainder of the wager 4 in Houston, three in Kansas
- 1:06:10City. I'm.
- 1:06:12Toast, dude. I'm going to be wearing this.
- 1:06:14Gold polo and this green visor, Billy Bean style.
- 1:06:17What episodes is that going to be?
- 1:06:21That's going to. Be a lot of episodes.
- 1:06:23Dude. All right, let's see.
- 1:06:24So this is my favorite. Wager we've ever done.
- 1:06:27I know. I had to sing episode one of
- 1:06:32this three, I think. Yeah, dude, don't.
- 1:06:34Go back to that if you please, please, please, please, please.
- 1:06:37Please don't. He brought it back.
- 1:06:40All right, so let's just say, I mean, I know they're gonna have
- 1:06:43probably an off day sprinkled in there, right?
- 1:06:45So let's just say by next. We'll just say we'll know
- 1:06:53officially. By by the 2nd recording next
- 1:06:56week so we'll we'll put that at the 22nd so 10 so 10 days we'll
- 1:07:01know we'll know for sure and I'll I will have ordered the
- 1:07:04thing by then so we'll I will we could we could know by
- 1:07:08Wednesday. Because they play Monday,
- 1:07:12Tuesday, Wednesday if they. Lose all three.
- 1:07:14That'll be 5:00 Pacific Time. That's true.
- 1:07:18We could know by. Wednesday, we could find out.
- 1:07:20During recording Wednesday, if they go for three, let's just
- 1:07:23for hypothetical. Let's just say they they run the
- 1:07:26course here, they run, they run it for a week 7 and O.
- 1:07:31We know by the we'll know. By the we'll know, I'm saying.
- 1:07:35If they took it to, if they took it to five, they took it to the
- 1:07:3914th game, like as the decider. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:43We'll know by the 20. 2nd So I will I will begin wearing it by
