- Sean Graver: So your boss just asked you to shave a few hours off the time cards of the lowest paid people on the team. And he framed it like, It's just how business works. Well, hey, this is Sean, and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. Now, maybe it hasn't happened yet, but you can feel it coming. upper management wants overtime costs down, and somewhere along the line, reduce hours became Adjust the hours that were actually worked. Now you know this isn't a rounding error or a gray area. You know it's wrong, and you know it's illegal. And you also know that if you push back hard enough, that you could be the one who gets shown the door, while somebody more compliant takes your spot and does exactly what you refused to do. And that's a brutal position to be in, and I know there's no easy way through, especially when you really need your job. But Proverbs 1611 gives us a picture that was originally about literal scales in the marketplace, but it applies perfectly here. It says, A just balance and scales are the Lord's. All the weights in the bag are his work. Every weight in that bag, every measurement belongs to him, which means fudging the numbers isn't just a company policy violation. It's tampering with something God says he personally owns. So here's what I want you to hear, though. This verse really isn't about you individually solving corporate wage theft single-handedly. It's it's about who you are when the pressure is on, and you may not be able to control what the cult company ultimately decides to do. You may not even be able to stop it happening somewhere else with someone else's hands on the keyboard. But you can control whether your name, your signature, your integrity gets attached to it. Now practically that mine might mean putting your concerns in writing instead of just verbally. It might mean asking direct questions like, can you clarify what you're asking me to do here so there's no ambiguity about what was requested? And it might mean even finding out what protections exist for you if you refuse. Now none of that guarantees safety. But it does mean that whatever happens, you'll know you didn't just go along with something that you knew was wrong. Well, let's pray about this. God, this is a scary situation. We don't want to lose our jobs, but we also don't want to be the reason someone else gets cheated out of what they earn. So give us the courage where we need it and and and the wisdom to know how to handle this well. I mean, not in a reckless way, but with honesty and integrity. Protect the people under us who have even less power in this situation than we do. And if it costs us something to do the right thing here, help us trust that you see it, even if no one else ever does. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Now, go make today count.
