- 0:01Speaker 1: Did you know that a game that began with two
- 0:04Speaker 1: peach baskets and 18 young men in the year 1891
- 0:07Speaker 1: was to shape the character of young men and spread
- 0:10Speaker 1: the gospel of Jesus Christ? Hello, I'm Ron Edwards. On
- 0:13Speaker 1: today's space from the Edwards Notebook, when one observes the
- 0:16Speaker 1: prevailing wokeness and downright evil that permeates both the NBA
- 0:19Speaker 1: and the WNBA, it's hard to fathom that the game
- 0:23Speaker 1: of basketball began with such wholesome and lofty goals. A
- 0:27Speaker 1: man named James Naismith It was born in Canada but
- 0:30Speaker 1: called the United States his home. The first basketball game
- 0:33Speaker 1: comprised of two teams, each with nine players. There was
- 0:37Speaker 1: no dribbling, no dunking, simply passing the ball around until
- 0:40Speaker 1: a player could throw the soccer ball into a basket.
- 0:44Speaker 1: That first game of basketball at the YMCA in Springfield,
- 0:47Speaker 1: Massachusetts in 1891 was a big hit with the young
- 0:50Speaker 1: men who loved the challenge and possibilities of the game,
- 0:54Speaker 1: as did its creator. But James Naismith also loved what
- 0:58Speaker 1: the game represented and why he was at the YMCA
- 1:01Speaker 1: training school in the first place. He believed that teamwork
- 1:04Speaker 1: sports like basketball could shape Christian character in ways mere
- 1:08Speaker 1: study could not. Naismith believed that Christians should be strong,
- 1:12Speaker 1: both spiritually and physically, to prevail over the full spectrum
- 1:15Speaker 1: of life's challenges. It's a shame that the game invented
- 1:18Speaker 1: by a Christian is now dominated by those who reject
- 1:22Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. I'm Ron Edwards.
