Transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, this is me just popping in really quickly to let
- 0:03you guys know this is a special bonus episode of mini scroll for
- 0:06you guys. I had the privilege of
- 0:08interviewing Victoria and Martine from Real Housewives of
- 0:11Sydney last month. We got to go to the binge
- 0:13offices. They were so fabulous.
- 0:15They were dressed to the nines as you can expect.
- 0:18So for all of my Real Housewives fans, I hope you enjoyed this
- 0:21episode. Thank you ladies so much for
- 0:23joining me today. I'm so excited to chat with you.
- 0:26Thank. You for having us, Lauren.
- 0:27Thank you. For having us good to be here.
- 0:29Yes, first of all, I am a huge Housewives fan and I have seen
- 0:33the first 3 episodes and we were just talking about how it is
- 0:36explosive already. I am so excited for the rest of
- 0:40the season. So to start off Martine,
- 0:42obviously you are new. How was it coming into this
- 0:46group? It was good.
- 0:48So I obviously knew some people, I've never met others, but
- 0:53overall I think that I was welcomed and and you know, I
- 0:58guess hit the ground running. What made you want to do the
- 1:00show? I like reality TVI like the
- 1:03Housewives franchise, and I just think that I'd like the
- 1:08opportunity to be involved in something exciting, different
- 1:12once in a lifetime. Yeah, you know, you have to come
- 1:15from a place of yes, I think, to live a life of adventure. 100%.
- 1:19Were you nervous joining the group or joining the show?
- 1:23Nervous to join the group, I was actually excited.
- 1:27Honestly, more than anything, I really was excited to be given
- 1:30the opportunity. OK, so I wanted to talk a little
- 1:32bit about your friendship. So is Victoria how you got
- 1:35introduced to the show? Yes.
- 1:37So the conversation, I believe started with Victoria and
- 1:41myself. We were there with our husbands
- 1:42and we were chatting about the show, I think.
- 1:45And then that was the first conversation that we had and
- 1:48Victoria, correct me if I'm wrong, gave my name to a
- 1:51producer. Yes.
- 1:53Yes. And then I chatted to a producer
- 1:56and it sort of kicks off. Look, this is a job.
- 1:58So I think there's this myth around that people get asked to
- 2:02do the show and you just get asked and you appear on screen.
- 2:04Funny. Incorrect.
- 2:05I get really annoyed. I'm going to like it.
- 2:08Can I just, I get really annoyed by this because like every time
- 2:11I speak to every time, but like one in two women will be like
- 2:16they asked me to be on housewives.
- 2:17I said no. And I'm like, that doesn't work
- 2:19like that doesn't work like that.
- 2:20I had two years of preparation. I had interview after interview,
- 2:24screen test after screen test. I had to do things with
- 2:27psychologists like it was 18 months before anyone asked me
- 2:32anything because. It's a business, right?
- 2:34So they have to come up. This is This show is here to
- 2:36make a successful show. So they put you through a
- 2:39thorough, comprehensive recruitment process.
- 2:41You have chats, then you do filmed interviews for Foxtel,
- 2:44then you group task with the group.
- 2:46Filming. Other people that might want to
- 2:47be on it and they ask you questions like, so no one just
- 2:51gets asked and magically appears on screen and then they have to
- 2:54I guess Foxtel, Binge, etcetera. They meet as a group and they
- 2:57present the potentials with different, I guess,
- 3:00configurations of who's going to work with who, right?
- 3:03Because this person might be great, but will they fit in with
- 3:05the group? So yeah, it's extensive.
- 3:08Extensive. And so Victoria, this is
- 3:10obviously not your first season. What made you want to come back?
- 3:14Honestly, like it was like very difficult for me to come back
- 3:18and Martine lived that with me, Nicole lived that with me, and
- 3:21Chrissy lived that with me. It was a lot of conversations
- 3:24and I did actually say no to coming back, you know, after a
- 3:28lot more negotiation, a lot of pep talks, mainly from Nicole
- 3:33pressure. I always said last season that
- 3:36Nicole bullied me to come on the show and she she bullied me
- 3:39again. She she totally bullied me again
- 3:41this season. Last season I finished filming
- 3:46Broken, a broken woman, and this season I didn't finish broken.
- 3:52I think, you know, with time you learn to compartmentalize show
- 3:57life and real life. And you know, I can say with my
- 4:00hand on my heart this season, I'm happy that Nicole bullied me
- 4:05to do it because I'm really proud of the show that you guys
- 4:08are going to get to see. Oh, that's so sweet.
- 4:11And so in terms of your friendship, has the show
- 4:14impacted it, strengthened it? Gosh, one of the things that I
- 4:18think, especially having watched the other franchises is if you
- 4:21make it out of this alive, you've done really, really well.
- 4:24So really what I see on the other ones is it doesn't always
- 4:27happen. So I give huge credit to us that
- 4:29we even making it because you'll see in this season that's not
- 4:34there can be really tricky moments.
- 4:35So I think that we it's a real credit to our relationship that
- 4:39we made it through this show, we're together and as we
- 4:42started. And Victoria, how have you
- 4:44adjusted to the fan scrutiny over the past couple of years,
- 4:49being a little bit more of a veteran, I suppose.
- 4:51Yeah, it's funny. Like, I think that I probably
- 4:54had the toughest first season of maybe any housewife globally in
- 4:58the world. And I realized really quickly,
- 5:03and I'm really lucky that 50% of the people watching like you and
- 5:0950% of the people don't. And that's not just about me.
- 5:12That's about everyone. So I don't read comments
- 5:15anymore. But for those first few weeks
- 5:17when I was really getting, you know, I was having a really hard
- 5:20time, You know, Kate was on her social media media blasting me,
- 5:25ruining my, you know, my, my baby, which was this beautiful
- 5:29business that I still still love and still run to this day.
- 5:32And you are starting to read the comments.
- 5:34And it was funny when you start to read the comments, the ones
- 5:36that don't get deleted. People were angry at her as much
- 5:40as they were. Leave her alone.
- 5:42And and then I realized, shit, I'm going to stop reading the
- 5:46comments. It's even Stevens, you know, And
- 5:50I just live with that motto now. I don't read any comments, and I
- 5:54don't worry about what people think because not everyone can
- 5:59love you. Yeah, like real life.
- 6:00And that's just like, real life, you know?
- 6:02And I've said it a few times in interviews.
- 6:05It's really about being authentic.
- 6:07So the more authentic you are when the cameras are rolling, I
- 6:12think the more people like you. So if you go on camera with a
- 6:17plan, you know, maybe Kate kind of shot herself in the foot last
- 6:20season because she went with this big plan and this big and
- 6:23it was not authentic. It's not authentic to her
- 6:25because she's, you know, wearing Louis Vuitton, which still sells
- 6:28fur every day. She's got big, you know, it was
- 6:30all this. And I think she shot herself in
- 6:32the foot. Whereas I just kind of like shut
- 6:34up and was myself like, fuck, this is on camera.
- 6:37I'm like, this makes me sad. I'm going to try to change.
- 6:40Maybe I can't change. Like, and I went through it like
- 6:43how I would in real life, you know, and that's the the magic
- 6:47otion of reality TV. Just be yourself for yourself.
- 6:53Was that some advice that you gave Martine?
- 6:55I don't, I'm not really a big advice giver.
- 6:58Like I will give advice to Martine, like where she should
- 7:01go on holidays, but you should, but like not important advice.
- 7:04Like I don't count myself as like the wisest person going
- 7:07around town. So like I try to not give sage
- 7:10advice to people unless they ask me, but you know, I can give you
- 7:15restaurant recommendations like. That obviously you were just
- 7:19announced as a cast member. Have you found the reception to
- 7:23be positive? Have you had any fan
- 7:25interactions yet? Anyone like in your DMS?
- 7:27Yes. So that's been probably thus far
- 7:30the most fun part of this experience.
- 7:32And the thing I've loved the most has been reconnecting with
- 7:36people I haven't maybe seen since university or I'm
- 7:39originally from WA, I'm from Perth.
- 7:42So many people from Perth saying I feel like I knew you were born
- 7:45for this one, I knew you in high school.
- 7:47People I've known from shopping in this shops that I haven't
- 7:50seen in 15 years saying you and John are amazing, like can't
- 7:53wait to see you on TV. It's really, really, really
- 7:56heartwarming. I know it won't all be positive,
- 7:58but so far just that connecting with people that I haven't seen
- 8:02for a while has been a blessing. And then new people coming in
- 8:05that I think already had an idea and have probably even been
- 8:09following our friendship by Instagram, being really excited
- 8:13because we obviously are friends in real life and, you know, we
- 8:16are on each other's pages and they're really excited to see us
- 8:20together. So yeah.
- 8:21Yeah, that's cool. And how did your family and
- 8:24friends react? Were they really supportive?
- 8:26Yes, so everyone have been really.
- 8:30I think of course when you go on to this, they're a bit nervous,
- 8:32but most people, they know I'm quite a calm person.
- 8:36I guess they thought that I would be able to handle myself.
- 8:38I've had a corporate job, I've had people scream in my face in
- 8:41a work environment before. This is, you know.
- 8:44Par for the course it's. OK.
- 8:47I love that. What are you most excited for
- 8:50viewers to see this season? Vic.
- 8:52Probably I'm most excited for the viewers to see the overseas
- 8:56trip, which I'm not allowed to tell you guys what it is, but I
- 9:01think it's really different to anything that's ever been done
- 9:04on Housewives before. And so that is really exciting
- 9:09to me. I think the vistas and the views
- 9:11and the camera work there is just absolutely spectacular.
- 9:15And then I guess second to that, I'm really, I think what we
- 9:20bring, and I know fashion such a big thing on housewives, but
- 9:24it's not so much fashion as in saying, you know, who's the best
- 9:28dressed? Who's that's not what I mean.
- 9:30I think we've got such a distinctive style in Sydney
- 9:34because it's like this beach culture.
- 9:37And I just think that the viewers are going to love that
- 9:40because this season, you know, I think the girls have all really
- 9:43tapped into who they are as a person.
- 9:45Martine and I were saying before, like, although we would
- 9:47never dress like Caroline, she's just so uniquely herself, you
- 9:52know? And that's interesting.
- 9:54One of the big storylines of the series is, you know, Sally
- 9:57getting a stylist, for example. And it kicks off the whole
- 10:01thing. So I think there's, like, quite
- 10:02a fashion focus this season. It's that.
- 10:05Yeah. OK so I have a few rapid fire
- 10:07questions to close off the interview and these are going to
- 10:11be about your cast mates but they're not that shady.
- 10:14So Victoria, I interviewed Chrissy and Caroline last week
- 10:17and they told me if they could swap lives with anyone it would
- 10:19be you on the cast. Who would you swap lives with?
- 10:22I would swap lives with no one. OK?
- 10:25I honestly, I do love my life. I would.
- 10:30I cannot. I cannot give it up.
- 10:32I'm sorry, Lauren, I cannot give it up.
- 10:34I can't give it up. I love that Victoria.
- 10:37Who do you think is the cast member the most likely to get
- 10:41Botox in a back alley if their injector was fully booked?
- 10:44Probably me, like I'm not a beauty girl.
- 10:48Yeah, you know, so short of like having an injector come to my
- 10:51house and me ending up in hospital like those poor ladies
- 10:54the other week. I am not really married to where
- 10:58I'm going. I do have a preferred Botox
- 11:00lady. We both go to the same one
- 11:01Doctor Van Park, but you know, if I'm desperate, laser clinic.
- 11:06Here we come. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:10Who on the cast has the most savage clap backs?
- 11:15I think Caroline she she is very witty and I think like probably
- 11:20myself, Martine and Caroline are like the wittiest in terms of
- 11:23like quick, but Caroline can go like to like a darker place in
- 11:29like a great way. That's that's not me throwing
- 11:32shade like they're funny, but they're like savage.
- 11:35Martina, who was the biggest pot star this season?
- 11:40Oh, I I don't think there's a clear winner there, No.
- 11:43Maybe that's what makes this season good viewing.
- 11:45I I don't know if there's a someone I.
- 11:48Think, no, no, I feel like, I feel like Kate and Terry are
- 11:52natural robs, so they naturally bring fire to every scene and
- 11:57that's their job, you know, and we sort of stir has to stir.
- 12:00I understand. And I think, like, I feel like
- 12:03the producers and Sally, because Sally's worked in media, have
- 12:05got like a really strong relationship where they can rely
- 12:09on Sally to understand where the story needs to go better than
- 12:12some of us. You know, she often knows where
- 12:14the producers want us to. And I think Chrissy, naturally,
- 12:18she's like a born housewife. So she knows that there has to
- 12:21be a beginning, a middle and an end to this scene.
- 12:23Otherwise, we don't fucking wrap up, you know?
- 12:25So I think like between those for me personally.
- 12:29Four, Yeah, OK, if we spread it out.
- 12:31If we spread it out like they both do, they all four do
- 12:34something totally different. Agree.
- 12:36And then the last question that I have for both of you, what is
- 12:39one thing that you hope viewers learn about the cast or about
- 12:42you this season? I think is that if you are
- 12:46watching a show like this, is that you can just to be inspired
- 12:51to be your own kind of housewife.
- 12:53You know, for me, I've come on to this show and I kind of make
- 12:56a thing about, you know, I love to just hang out with my husband
- 12:58and my dog. It's not exactly true.
- 13:00We exaggerate, but you can be your own kind of person into
- 13:04what you want to do and it doesn't have to be an exact
- 13:08formula to live your best life needs to be you should do what
- 13:11you want to do. I'm.
- 13:12Sort of I don't need anyone to learn anything about me.
- 13:15If they like we're going to learn, they were going to learn
- 13:17something about me. I probably just hope that after
- 13:20this season they can tell that like I take myself 0 seriously,
- 13:24like I'm just a class clown, that that's all I am learn about
- 13:27the cast. I think that we are a great
- 13:30cast. I think that we are electric
- 13:33together and doing a reality TV show is hard.
- 13:36So I guess maybe to round that up is what I want the viewers to
- 13:40learn is like, you know, we're doing this as a job for your
- 13:43entertainment. So I do think that everyone has
- 13:47done their best. All eight women.
- 13:49I even think though like don't forget if someone really annoys
- 13:52you that's part of the show. You don't want them off the show
- 13:55you. Got you want them on the show
- 13:57you? Want someone like the Big
- 13:58Brother thing? Do you remember when Big Brother
- 13:59started and people would vote off the really annoying person
- 14:01and then it got boring. So if you watch this show and
- 14:04you're like I can't stand Victoria, I can't stand my team,
- 14:06that's probably means we've got the ingredient.
- 14:09That's what I'm saying. Like that's this is a great
- 14:11cast. Like, yeah, all of us are in our
- 14:14own way, so polarizing. And usually that is not probably
- 14:20the best word to describe someone.
- 14:21It carries some negative connotations.
- 14:24But in the world of housewives, like, it's bloody important.
- 14:27Like if Martine and I just went on and were like, I love you so
- 14:30much and everything you do. Like that's so boring, right?
- 14:34Like you can like call your mom or your grandma and like talk
- 14:38shit like that. And to be willing to be
- 14:40polarizing means we've all done our job right, because it means
- 14:42you're willing to put yourself out there that is hard.
- 14:45I love that. Well, thank you guys so much for
- 14:47joining me. This is great.
- 14:50Thank you. All right, thank you so much to
- 14:51Binge for helping us bring that interview to life.
- 14:53Of course, thank you to Martine and Victoria for sitting down
- 14:56with me. You guys can catch Real
- 14:58Housewives of Sydney every Tuesday on Binge.
