Latest / Elon Musk Podcast / SpaceX Moves $402M in Bitcoin
Transcript
- 0:01Hey everybody. Welcome back to the Elon Musk
- 0:04Podcast. This is a show where we discuss
- 0:07the critical crossroads that shape SpaceX, Tesla X, The
- 0:11Boring Company, and Neurolink. I'm your host, Will Walden.
- 0:16SpaceX just moved 2495 Bitcoin worth of about $268 million on
- 0:24October 21st, and then moved another 1215 Bitcoin worth about
- 0:32133.7 million on October 24th. Arkham Intelligence data links
- 0:38both waves to wallets tagged for Space XI.
- 0:41See big money shifting on the chain and I want to know whether
- 0:45this points to treasury reorganization or something
- 0:49closer to market intent. SpaceX executed the first
- 0:53transfer, about a three month pause in on chain activity tied
- 0:58to its labeled wallet. Company sent 2495 Bitcoin to two
- 1:03fresh addresses with no prior history.
- 1:06It's a pattern that often indicates a clean segregation of
- 1:10funds. The structure reduces
- 1:12counterparty exposures and simplifies audit trails for
- 1:15internal teams. Four days later, SpaceX pushed
- 1:19another 1215 Bitcoin to new wallets.
- 1:23Multiple trackers recorded the value at around 133.7 million at
- 1:28the time of movement. A second wave made the sequence
- 1:31hard to dismiss as a one off housekeeping task, so I checked
- 1:35for any simultaneous flows to exchanges that might hint at
- 1:41near term selling and one outlet flagged a dust level transfer of
- 1:45about $150.00 to Coinbase Prime, which reads like a test rather
- 1:51than any sort of serious routing of liquidity.
- 1:54Now the dominant path still shows fresh self custody
- 1:58destinations and these transfers landed as Elon Musk re entered
- 2:03the Bitcoin conversation on X with terse support for energy
- 2:07based valued claims. His posts revived attention on
- 2:11corporate holdings linked to his companies and put fresh context
- 2:15around treasury moves. Now we can link these posts to
- 2:20sentiment shifts even without explicit guidance directly from
- 2:24SpaceX. Now, I looked for a current
- 2:27estimate of Spacex's remaining stack because sizing matters for
- 2:30risk, and one tracker Peg's holdings near 6970 Bitcoin after
- 2:37recent consolidations, while another snapshot around the
- 2:40first transfer suggested around 5790 Bitcoin.
- 2:46The gap likely comes from tagging differences in the
- 2:50timing of balance calculations, though.
- 2:54O the price. Here we have to think about the
- 2:57price. Bitcoin traded near 6, figures
- 2:59during the week of these moves, and intraday swings followed
- 3:04news sikes about Musk's comments in the wallet activity.
- 3:07Big treasuries often tighten operational controls when
- 3:11volatility rises because sentiment risk increases with
- 3:17each basis point of movement, and the transaction design
- 3:20points to internal treasury hygiene rather than distribution
- 3:24into the market. Though SpaceX used new addresses
- 3:27that did not previously transact and it split flows into clean
- 3:32buckets. Institution uses pattern to
- 3:34rotate keys, refresh custody setups, and compartmentalize
- 3:39access rights. It looks like it's internal
- 3:42housekeeping basically. And so I went ahead and I
- 3:46weighed the alternative. The SpaceX prepared an over the
- 3:48counter sale. The lack of meaningful exchange
- 3:51inflows during these windows and the absence of immediate follow
- 3:55on spends from the recipient wallets weakens that case
- 3:59altogether. OTC desks also prefer sediment
- 4:03structures that leave clearer fingerprints on custodial rails.
- 4:08Now, Musk's commentary adds a narrative to all of this that
- 4:13makes immediate liquidation less intuitive.
- 4:16You amplified A thesis that ties Bitcoin's value to energy and
- 4:19scarcity, which aligns withholding behavior not to
- 4:23distribute his funds the the bitcoins from SpaceX treasury
- 4:29and messaging. They don't always sync up, but
- 4:33the alignment here matters. For inference.
- 4:36I also tested the timing against prior SpaceX wallet activity.
- 4:40The last large on chain event before October came in late
- 4:44July, with roughly $153 million moving to a new address after
- 4:49years of dormancy. The gap between July and October
- 4:52supports a cadence of periodic key rotation and consolidation.
- 4:57So they do this every once in a while.
- 4:59I'll. What suspends from now on and
- 5:05see what SpaceX does. See if they spend any of this if
- 5:10they selling of it off a clean hold pattern over the next few.
- 5:15Weeks. Would validate the reorg thesis
- 5:19while. Staged.
- 5:20Hops into prime broker roots, which shift the probability
- 5:24toward a greater distribution. For now, though, the change
- 5:29shows structured movement in fresh custody endpoints.
- 5:33We can't really make any determinations, though, other
- 5:35than it's fresh. And we can take a look at this
- 5:39in a few weeks and I'll report back to you.
- 5:43So you know, SpaceX restructured a pretty big Bitcoin position
- 5:47across new Willits during a kind of volatile week, but you
- 5:52wouldn't expect them to do except they're just moving it
- 5:55over to New Orleans as far as we know.
- 5:58And this flow fits treasury organization more than disposal.
- 6:06So I have a question for you. If you're new to the show,
