- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, guys, here we are, last break of the
- 0:02Speaker 1: day on this Thursday. It's been a good day, a
- 0:04Speaker 1: fun day. You've got fun today, Steve. And in closing,
- 0:12Speaker 1: I want to share something with you. I have a
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm on a group chat with some brothers I went
- 0:17Speaker 1: to school with. Man, it's like thirteen of us. We
- 0:21Speaker 1: get together a couple times a year, and it's probably
- 0:25Speaker 1: my favorite time of the year because I get to
- 0:28Speaker 1: hang out with some guys and some men who knew
- 0:31Speaker 1: me before all of this happened to me. And that's
- 0:35Speaker 1: really been a great blessing for me, man, because I'm
- 0:38Speaker 1: able to be myself around these men. I don't have
- 0:42Speaker 1: to put on no pretenses. They knew me before all
- 0:45Speaker 1: of this. They've seen the changes in me, and they
- 0:47Speaker 1: see the similarities in me, and they cool with both
- 0:50Speaker 1: of them. Because I developed the saying over my life,
- 0:54Speaker 1: I was who I was and I am who I am,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and I'm cool with both them. People now, I say
- 1:00Speaker 1: had a little bit more graphic when I'm talking to them,
- 1:03Speaker 1: but just for the radio, I was who I was
- 1:07Speaker 1: and I am who I am, and I'm cool with
- 1:11Speaker 1: both them blanks and you can put that, put that
- 1:14Speaker 1: in however you want to. But that's how I said
- 1:16Speaker 1: to myself. But we were talking the other day and
- 1:22Speaker 1: this one of my partners as a pastor, and he
- 1:26Speaker 1: sent me this thing called the Seven Rules of Life.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And he said, Man, when I listened to your show, Steve,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I've heard you say all of these things at one
- 1:34Speaker 1: point and time. He said, I just thought i'd send
- 1:37Speaker 1: it to you. So for the first time, I have
- 1:41Speaker 1: it kind of all like printed out right, the seven
- 1:44Speaker 1: Rules of Life, and I'm gonna share them with you
- 1:46Speaker 1: right now because they're very, very helpful. And the pastor
- 1:50Speaker 1: calls him the seven rules of Life, and he sent
- 1:52Speaker 1: them to me. Number one, make peace with your past
- 1:57Speaker 1: so it won't disturb your present. I think that's so
- 2:00Speaker 1: important for people, man, that you stop allowing who you were,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and stop allowing people to come into your life to
- 2:08Speaker 1: remind you of who you were when clearly you've changed
- 2:10Speaker 1: and moved on. Stop allowing people to hold you to
- 2:14Speaker 1: your past mistakes when God has clearly forgiven you, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: move on. Man, I get tired of people talking about me.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I don't even worry about that no more. What you did,
- 2:24Speaker 1: you left this and you walked out of here and
- 2:26Speaker 1: you did this. You don't even know the story. Rule
- 2:29Speaker 1: Number two, what other people think of you, and I
- 2:33Speaker 1: learned this from Bishop Jakes. Number two, what other people
- 2:37Speaker 1: think of you is none of your business. And I've
- 2:42Speaker 1: often said that what other people think of you as
- 2:44Speaker 1: none of your business, nor should you make it yours.
- 2:47Speaker 1: It ain't your business what they think of you, because
- 2:50Speaker 1: it don't even matter. You'll be so much happy if
- 2:54Speaker 1: you could worry about what other people think of you.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Number Three. Time heals almost everything. So give it some time.
- 3:05Speaker 1: You know, people think when something happens to him it's permanent.
- 3:10Speaker 1: It's given some time. I had a friend of mine
- 3:13Speaker 1: whose wife's mother passed, and he called me. He said, man,
- 3:16Speaker 1: because my mom's still living, I know your mom gone.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Do you have any advice for my wife? Because she
- 3:21Speaker 1: want to give up? And I was going, well, first
- 3:24Speaker 1: of all, would your mother wants you to give up?
- 3:27Speaker 1: Which all those of us who have lost our mother,
- 3:29Speaker 1: our mother loved us enough where I'm sure our mother
- 3:32Speaker 1: would want us to continue and live the best life
- 3:35Speaker 1: we could. So you in here talking about giving up
- 3:37Speaker 1: because your mama gone. Hold on, man, get his things.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Some time. It's called grief. It's hard to deal with,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but give it some time because time heals almost everything
- 3:47Speaker 1: if you give it time. Number four, no one is
- 3:50Speaker 1: in charge of your happiness except you. Stop giving people
- 3:56Speaker 1: permission to direct your life and determine who you are
- 4:00Speaker 1: that's yours. No one is in charge of your happiness
- 4:04Speaker 1: except you. Bishop Jakes told me one time. He says,
- 4:08Speaker 1: it's not your job to make another person happy, nor
- 4:11Speaker 1: should you make it yours, because it's a hard job.
- 4:15Speaker 1: It's an impossible job. You can't make another person happy.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I've tried it before, trust me, you can't. Number five.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Don't compare your life to others, and don't judge him
- 4:26Speaker 1: because you have no idea what their journey is all about.
- 4:30Speaker 1: How many times have you been judged by people about
- 4:34Speaker 1: your life when they don't even know the story. Somebody
- 4:37Speaker 1: asked me one time, They say, man, you always crying
- 4:41Speaker 1: every time I see you crying. You know why I
- 4:43Speaker 1: cry when I'm talking about it Because I know the
- 4:45Speaker 1: fine print. Y'all saw the headlines. I know the fine print.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I know the story. I know the story behind it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I know the context that the story was in. I
- 4:57Speaker 1: remember all the pain of it. I remember all the
- 5:00Speaker 1: wishing it would change, and now that it's changed, sometime
- 5:03Speaker 1: it brings tear to my eyes. So don't compare your
- 5:06Speaker 1: life to others, and don't judge them because you ain't
- 5:08Speaker 1: got no idea what their journey is all about. Number six,
- 5:11Speaker 1: Stop thinking too much. It's all right not to know
- 5:15Speaker 1: the answer. Do you know how many times you've talked
- 5:18Speaker 1: yourself out of something? And the reason you talk yourself
- 5:21Speaker 1: out of something because there's an answer you don't have
- 5:23Speaker 1: an answer to it. Because there's a question or a
- 5:26Speaker 1: problem you don't have an answer to, And because you
- 5:28Speaker 1: don't have an answer, it freezes you because I don't
- 5:32Speaker 1: know how that's gonna turn out, or I don't know
- 5:33Speaker 1: how that's gonna be. Man, Stop thinking too much. It's
- 5:37Speaker 1: all right not to know the answers. You ain't supposed
- 5:40Speaker 1: to know what your future holds. You just supposed to
- 5:44Speaker 1: live and have the faith that it's gonna be all right. Now.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It's gonna be some problems coming, know that, But you
- 5:50Speaker 1: ain't got to sit here and try to figure out
- 5:51Speaker 1: what's wrong with tomorrow. Last, but not least, the seven
- 5:55Speaker 1: rules of life. Smile. Smile. You don't own all the
- 6:01Speaker 1: problems in the world. Smile because you don't own all
- 6:08Speaker 1: the problems in the world. Smile because no matter how
- 6:13Speaker 1: bad it's going for you, you better believe it's going
- 6:15Speaker 1: way worse for somebody else. Smile. Kirk Franklin wrote a song,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you look so much better when you smile anyway. I
- 6:22Speaker 1: know it's hard, but man, those are the seven rules
- 6:24Speaker 1: of life. Man, I just want to share it with you.
- 6:27Speaker 1: That's been a benefit to me. I've known them all,
- 6:29Speaker 1: but to see them all in print in front of
- 6:31Speaker 1: me meant a lot to me the other day, so
- 6:32Speaker 1: I thought i'd shared with you. Y'all. Have a great
- 6:34Speaker 1: day today. Talk to God today. Love to hear from you. Okay, y'all,
