- 0:22You guys are out of control. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to this special
- 0:25edition of In-House Half-Faith, Let It Begin. We are hoping that you're enjoying
- 0:30your series and your week with us.
- 0:33This is a Wednesday episode, and we are continuing the series,
- 0:37Becoming, episode two, The Person in the Mirror.
- 0:41Again, my name is Angel Santana. This is Half-Faith, Let It Begin,
- 0:45and we are Registered Trademark Podcast, and we want to thank you for making
- 0:49that happen together with us.
- 0:52You know, yesterday we began our series, Becoming, the person God always knew I could be.
- 0:59We talked about how God often sees our potential long before we do.
- 1:04Today, we ask you a question.
- 1:06When you look in the mirror, what do you see?
- 1:09Not physically, not spiritually, not emotionally, not mentally, who do you see?
- 1:18Do you see someone blessed or someone broken,
- 1:23do you see someone capable or someone who consistently feels inadequate do you
- 1:28see someone loved by god or someone still carrying labels from years ago today
- 1:35we're talking about the person in the mirror.
- 1:37I think one of the greatest struggles we face is not seeing ourselves the way God sees us.
- 1:44Instead, we see ourselves through the eyes of our past, through our mistakes,
- 1:50through our failures, through our disappointments, and sometimes through our,
- 1:55well, through the opinions of other people.
- 1:58You ever notice how one negative comment can stay with you for years?
- 2:03Hmm, someone tells you that you're not good enough, You're not smart enough.
- 2:09You're not talented enough.
- 2:11And even after they've forgotten what they said, you're still carrying it.
- 2:17I know I carried labels. Labels that told me that, well, what I couldn't do.
- 2:24Labels that told me who I couldn't become.
- 2:27Labels that whispered I wasn't qualified.
- 2:30For a long time, I believed them.
- 2:32The problem with labels is that if you're not careful, they become your identity,
- 2:38you stop saying i made a mistake i start saying i make mistakes,
- 2:45you stop saying i failed and then you start saying i'm a failure,
- 2:50those are two very very different things because what you do is not what who
- 2:56you are your worst moment is not your identity.
- 3:03I think about that for a second. I didn't go blank. I just had to think about
- 3:08that. Your worst moment is not your identity.
- 3:11Your biggest mistake is not your identity. Your past is not your identity.
- 3:16God has never looked at you and said, that's all you'll ever be. No, never. Not once.
- 3:23When I look back at my life, I realized there were years when I didn't believe
- 3:27in myself. Years when I questioned whether I could really make a difference.
- 3:32Years when I thought ministry was something other people did.
- 3:36Years when I thought leadership belonged to someone else. Years when I thought my story was too messy.
- 3:43My past was too complicated. My mistakes were too long, too big.
- 3:49And yet, here I am hosting a podcast.
- 3:54I'm attending pastoral school, sharing God's words with you,
- 3:58encouraging people all over the world.
- 4:01Not because I'm special. My mother says I am though, but because God refuses
- 4:07to let my past define my future.
- 4:09One of my favorite stories in the Bible is Gideon. When God called Gideon a
- 4:14mighty warrior, Gideon couldn't believe it.
- 4:17Why? Because Gideon wasn't seeing himself the way God saw him.
- 4:21God saw potential. Gideon saw insecurity.
- 4:26God saw a purpose. Gideon saw weakness. And I wonder how many of us are doing the same thing today.
- 4:33God is calling us forward, but we're still looking backwards.
- 4:38God is speaking purpose, but we're still listening to old labels.
- 4:44Maybe it's time to stop arguing.
- 4:47Maybe it's stopped. Yeah, maybe we should stop arguing. That's a good one.
- 4:51Maybe we should stop arguing with God about who he says you are.
- 4:56Maybe it's time to believe in him. How about that? Today, I'm gonna give you a challenge.
- 5:01I want you to do something for me, for yourself. Today, the next time you look
- 5:06in the mirror, stop focusing on what's wrong.
- 5:09Stop focusing on what you wish you could change. Instead, ask yourself,
- 5:14what does God see when he looks at me?
- 5:17Because I promise you, he sees more than your mistakes. He sees more than your
- 5:22fears. He sees more than your doubts.
- 5:25He sees a child. He sees purpose. He sees possibilities.
- 5:31He sees someone still be coming.
- 5:36So I close with this. The person in the mirror may not be perfect,
- 5:40but neither were Moses, David, Peter, Paul, and God used them anyway.
- 5:47So stop measuring yourself by who you used to be and start thinking about what
- 5:53God is doing for you and start thinking about God for who you're becoming.
- 5:59What do you want to be? Let's pray. Heavenly Father, help us to see ourselves through your eyes.
- 6:05Remove the labels that do not belong to us and replace them with the truth of
- 6:09who you say we are. Help us walk confidently.
- 6:15Help us walk confidently in our purpose and trust that you are still shaping us every day.
- 6:20We pray this unto you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Tomorrow,
- 6:25we're going to talk about the doors.
- 6:27Yeah, I think I'm going to label it the doors. The doors I almost didn't walk
- 6:31through. How about that?
- 6:33Oh, and trust me, this one might change the way you look at fear forever.
- 6:38So until then, God loves you. God believes in you. God trusts you,
- 6:42and he's never going to leave your side.
- 6:44And never forget to have faith. Let it begin.
