Latest / Coaches Corner / Luke Murray - Postgame APB
Transcript
- 0:00You kind assisted Luke Murray that first half. Arkansas Pine Bluff was proving that
- 0:05they played some good teams and they're a good team, and they really gave
- 0:08you everything you wanted, didn't they. It wasn't a great feeling there for
- 0:11a while, but you know, they played well. Like you said,
- 0:13they've played well against Missouri. They put up a ton of points against them.
- 0:17You know, even the other night where they lost pretty badly to Gonzaga,
- 0:20they made fifteen threes in the game. So they've got some dangerous guards
- 0:23and you know, I think we lost them a couple of times, and
- 0:25then we missed some open shots as well that I think would have helped stretch
- 0:28the lead in the first half. Yeah, yu Khon able to take advantage
- 0:31of their advantage in the paint as you would expect, but this was big
- 0:34today. Thirty eight to ten in the paint. That was one of the
- 0:37real turning boards. Yeah, I mean, it was the point of emphasis
- 0:40for us for sure. Was trying to get the ball inside to Donovan and
- 0:43Sampson and Alex potentially and also drive the ball as well. You know,
- 0:46put a lot of pressure on the paint. They're a little bit undersized.
- 0:49They're big guys that have been in foul trouble quite a bit as well,
- 0:52So that was something that we were really focused in on. Yeah, it
- 0:54was a nice delivery, a nice contribution by Jalen Stewart, we hadn't played
- 0:58in the last couple of games, comes in, it gives you fifteen minutes,
- 1:00seven points. What'd you like about what you saw? Yeah, I
- 1:03was really impressed with him. You know, he's a guy that has been
- 1:06practicing well recently. He's somebody that has a ton of talent, and we
- 1:10loved him in the recruiting process and so it's nice to see him get comfortable
- 1:12out there. That was a really big spark he gave us in the first
- 1:15half. And you know, coach has been talking about it recently with the
- 1:19team and in the media as well, how important it is for guys like
- 1:21jay Lynn Stewart and Jayden Ross to step up for us. And so I
- 1:25think both those guys, but particularly Jalen, earned a lot of trust today.
- 1:27Yeah, and Solo balded it the other day against North Carolina and the
- 1:30Garden obviously, and Stephan Castle gets eighteen minutes on the Florid today. He
- 1:34looked kind of like himself. I thought, Yeah, I mean he's just
- 1:37so physical, you know, he's so physical. He gets he got you
- 1:40know, I think he drew five or six fouls in the game and only
- 1:42whatever he seventeen minutes that he played. He puts a lot of pressure on
- 1:46the paint, and I thought his defense in the second half was big for
- 1:49us. You know, he played a big role in us being able to
- 1:51kind of grow the lead there. Yeah, had four rebounds, four assistant
- 1:53he had a guard some smaller guys who were super quick. I was impressed
- 1:57by that because Castle is a big due and he's got a guys who were
- 2:00six foot or six' one and they're lightning fast. That's not easy.
- 2:04Yeah, you know, he's uniquely skilled in terms of his ability to move
- 2:07his feet, you know, at that size, at sixty six and two
- 2:08hundred and fifteen pounds or whatever he is, he's really strong in the upper
- 2:12body. But he also has really good laderal quickness. You know. I'd
- 2:15say his on ball defense and his passing are probably his two greatest gifts.
- 2:17Yeah, and Alex Caravan, who's been in a bit of a rut shooting
- 2:21the ball. He's got his tape, his hand taped up. I talked
- 2:23to Dan about it before the game. But six for nine from three,
- 2:25nine of twelve career high for him, twenty six points. Yeah, I
- 2:30know, he was terrific. I mean, he knocked down a bunch of
- 2:31big shots there in the second half. He got some great looks and it
- 2:35was you know, it was really nice to see. You know, he's
- 2:37one of the best shooters in the country. You know, I've seen some
- 2:38things on the internet that say he should shoot less threes or something like that,
- 2:42which I mean, he makes every shot in practice. He went through
- 2:44a little three or four game stretch where he wasn't shooting a great but any
- 2:46open shot for Alex is one that we want him shooting for sure. And
- 2:50finally, I know Dan had this high up on the chalkboard in there in
- 2:53the locker room three point defense. It wasn't what you wanted in the first
- 2:58half, But overall, what do you make of that? I mean,
- 3:00they made some lights out shots in that game, they did, and that's
- 3:02kind of what they do, you know, that's kind of their mo You
- 3:05know, Williams and French are both averaging over eight and a half threes attempted
- 3:08per game. That's a lot. Yeah, I mean, so you know,
- 3:10Williams got twelve off. I thought we did a great job with French,
- 3:14holding them to only three point field goal attempts. But that's you know,
- 3:16that's the nature of their team. They don't do a whole lot around
- 3:19the rim, they don't throw it inside a ton, and they played a
- 3:22really fast tempo, so there's a million possessions and so you know, they're
- 3:24averaging over thirty threes per game, you know, and they're going to make
- 3:27some hard ones. I thought they did. But I think by and large,
- 3:30especially in the second half, our attentiveness was pretty good. Yeah,
- 3:32much better at d in the second half. Al Right, coach, let's
- 3:35get up to Seattle and see what happens out there. I'm looking forward to
- 3:38that. You and I both thanks and Zaga all right, that's Louke Burray.
- 3:40Appreciate him and you kon wins at one oh one sixty three
