- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to The Mark Simone Show on 710WOR. Well, hey,
- 0:10Speaker 1: it's Wednesday, middle of the week already. Let me see.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Price of oil down a few dollars a barrel. Still high,
- 0:18Speaker 1: still very, very high. Fed rate, that's going to affect
- 0:21Speaker 1: the market. We'll find out later exactly what's going to happen.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And let me just see right now. Stocks down, not really,
- 0:31Speaker 1: just $ 100, which is like a 20th of 1%. Just nothing.
- 0:37Speaker 1: But the Fed rate announcement comes later. That's expected to
- 0:42Speaker 1: be a quarter of a point, be the first rate
- 0:44Speaker 1: hike in three years. It would make the president happy,
- 0:48Speaker 1: but quarter of a point, not that much. Anyway, we'll
- 0:50Speaker 1: get the best expert for you a little later this
- 0:53Speaker 1: hour to tell us all about it. So if you're
- 0:56Speaker 1: saying to yourself, how does CNN do it? How do
- 0:58Speaker 1: they get those low ratings? You know, CNN, a distant
- 1:02Speaker 1: third place in cable news, you know, a few hundred
- 1:06Speaker 1: thousand viewers, that's it. How do they do it? How
- 1:09Speaker 1: do they get those ratings so low? Well, it's stuff
- 1:11Speaker 1: like this. First of all, Jake Tapper, not the most
- 1:14Speaker 1: exciting guy anyway, in the studio, just look at him
- 1:20Speaker 1: and go, so how do you get it even lower? Well,
- 1:24Speaker 1: You bring on Gavin Newsom, who looks good, sounds good,
- 1:27Speaker 1: in the studio. But they decide they'll take these two
- 1:31Speaker 1: guys and have them go fly fishing in Montana. I
- 1:34Speaker 1: don't know what the point of this is. I think
- 1:37Speaker 1: it's Newsom's place in Montana, his fly fishing place. You
- 1:42Speaker 1: know how bad Jake Tapper looks in the studio. You
- 1:44Speaker 1: know how Dully looks in the studio. Imagine him with
- 1:47Speaker 1: those big rubber boots up to his waist, standing in
- 1:51Speaker 1: the middle of a stream. Does anybody want to see this?
- 1:54Speaker 1: So it's Tapper and Newsom fly fishing. This was the
- 1:58Speaker 1: highlight of the whole thing where Newsom thinks he makes
- 2:02Speaker 1: news by saying he won't run if Kamala runs in 2028.
- 2:06Speaker 1: That was supposed to be breaking news. I don't know.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But listen to this. Tapper and Newsom fly fishing. It's
- 2:11Speaker 1: going to be a lot of people. Yeah. It's a
- 2:13Speaker 1: lot of Democrats. 31 flavors. You're not even the only Californian. No, right.
- 2:17Speaker 1: You've got Ro Khanna, Kamala. Yeah. I don't know if
- 2:21Speaker 1: she runs, but we'll see. I know she's called her own.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But I wouldn't run if she ran. If she runs,
- 2:28Speaker 1: you will not? Of course not. Why would I? I
- 2:31Speaker 1: wouldn't do that to her. I wouldn't do that to you.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't waste everyone's time. Oh, my God. Breaking news.
- 2:39Speaker 1: This was the clip they released. Believe it or not,
- 2:41Speaker 1: this was the exciting part of the interview. Now, first
- 2:44Speaker 1: of all, this guy's been out of the race for
- 2:45Speaker 1: about nine months now. You'll notice before this week, you
- 2:49Speaker 1: hadn't heard his name in months. You hadn't heard anybody
- 2:52Speaker 1: mention him, talk about him in months. I know there
- 2:55Speaker 1: was a period late last year, early this year, where
- 2:57Speaker 1: he seemed to be the frontrunner. He was all over
- 3:00Speaker 1: the place. He was pulling stunt after stunt. And it
- 3:04Speaker 1: worked for a few months, but that's always the pattern.
- 3:06Speaker 1: If you look at every presidential race, on the Democratic side,
- 3:10Speaker 1: there's always somebody three years out. It's always the pretty
- 3:13Speaker 1: boy who looks good. John Edwards at one time, Gary
- 3:17Speaker 1: Hart another time, flash in the pan, and they're all
- 3:20Speaker 1: fizzle out, and they're never the nominee. And that was
- 3:23Speaker 1: the case here. So You haven't heard a word about
- 3:26Speaker 1: this guy in six months. Now he's trying to make
- 3:28Speaker 1: a little comeback. And if you want to really stir
- 3:31Speaker 1: up some excitement, Jake Tapper is not the guy to
- 3:35Speaker 1: do it with. So it's really going nowhere. So the
- 3:41Speaker 1: Kennedy Center is a mess. It needs to be rebuilt.
- 3:46Speaker 1: It has tremendous water damage. The infrastructure is crumbling. It's
- 3:51Speaker 1: on the verge of collapse. They want to rebuild it.
- 3:54Speaker 1: The lucky break right now is you happen to have
- 3:56Speaker 1: a president who's a master builder who actually knows how
- 4:00Speaker 1: to build these things. But he's in a big fight.
- 4:03Speaker 1: He wants to put his name on it. I know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: it sounds crazy, but that's the way he is. He
- 4:09Speaker 1: likes to put his name on everything. He likes a
- 4:10Speaker 1: lot of gold. He likes his name on everything, on
- 4:12Speaker 1: the hat, on the building, on the everything, everything, on
- 4:15Speaker 1: the club. But that was too much opposition. So then
- 4:22Speaker 1: it was decided... It would be the Kennedy Center, but
- 4:25Speaker 1: they'll put his name somewhere, a little sign, renovated by
- 4:28Speaker 1: Donald Trump. Well, if he does do that, I guess
- 4:30Speaker 1: he deserves the credit for it. You know, if Democrats
- 4:33Speaker 1: found out about John F. Kennedy, they'd want his name
- 4:36Speaker 1: off the building. I don't think they have any idea
- 4:39Speaker 1: what John F. Kennedy stood for. Boy, if Democrats today,
- 4:43Speaker 1: if they knew about Kennedy, the guy was anti-abortion. The
- 4:48Speaker 1: guy was a big military hawk. The guy was the guy...
- 4:52Speaker 1: increased every military thing in Vietnam. The guy was a
- 4:57Speaker 1: big tax cutter, a supply sider. Oh, if Democrats knew
- 5:00Speaker 1: about him, they'd demand his name come off the building too,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but they don't know about him. But the building in
- 5:09Speaker 1: tremendous disrepair, big chunk of the ceiling fell down last week. Luckily,
- 5:14Speaker 1: while it was closed, didn't hurt anybody. But this talk
- 5:18Speaker 1: of Trump just throwing up his hands, a federal judge
- 5:21Speaker 1: ruled He can't put his name anywhere on any plaque
- 5:24Speaker 1: on anything. And that's the worst thing you can do
- 5:26Speaker 1: to Donald Trump. He can't put his name up. But
- 5:29Speaker 1: he may just walk away from all this. They had
- 5:30Speaker 1: a fiery board meeting. There's one person on the board
- 5:34Speaker 1: who's a holdover from previous administrations who's blocking Trump on anything.
- 5:38Speaker 1: She's even the one that took the thing to court.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So apparently they had gotten quite a shouting match in
- 5:43Speaker 1: the boardroom. But that's normal. That happens. You know, they'll
- 5:46Speaker 1: make a big deal out of it. Every president yells
- 5:49Speaker 1: and screams and shouts. Not so much Reagan. He could
- 5:53Speaker 1: get mad, but he wasn't much of a shouter or
- 5:56Speaker 1: a cursor. Clinton was an amazing cursor in private. Bush
- 6:01Speaker 1: tried to curse, but it wasn't so good when he did.
- 6:03Speaker 1: He wasn't convincing when he did it. Obama, yeah, I've
- 6:08Speaker 1: heard him curse a few times. I mean, really curse.
- 6:10Speaker 1: But again, that's every president. Nixon was quite the cursor.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You can hear it on those tapes. It's fascinating to
- 6:18Speaker 1: listen to. The biggest yeller and screamer and cursor ever
- 6:21Speaker 1: was Joe Biden. In fact, a lot of people quit
- 6:25Speaker 1: the White House because they couldn't take the abuse from him.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I mean, the F word, the S word, every word,
- 6:30Speaker 1: screaming at people all the time. It was unbelievable. It
- 6:35Speaker 1: was so bad and so many people were talking about it,
- 6:37Speaker 1: muttering about it. The New York Times was forced once
- 6:39Speaker 1: to write an article about it. Of course, they buried
- 6:43Speaker 1: it like on page 70, but they did write an
- 6:45Speaker 1: article about it and they spun it by saying, He's
- 6:49Speaker 1: a perfectionist. He's such a perfectionist. Demands so much from
- 6:52Speaker 1: the staff that he can yell and scream and curse
- 6:55Speaker 1: at them. And Trump's a pretty good yeller and curser.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Although he's a pretty tough guy. When you're really a
- 7:03Speaker 1: tough guy, you can control it a little more than
- 7:07Speaker 1: some others. So, hey, there's all this effort now to
- 7:11Speaker 1: get rid of Pete Hexeth. This crazy Morning Joe show.
- 7:16Speaker 1: doing a whole hour today. We've got to get rid
- 7:17Speaker 1: of Hexeth. He's got to go. He's got to go
- 7:21Speaker 1: get rid of the guy. He's incompetent. Well, he doesn't
- 7:25Speaker 1: look like the guy you'd choose for the job, but
- 7:31Speaker 1: I wasn't that keen on him getting the job. I mean,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I like the guy, but since he's had the job,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he has pulled off probably the most dazzling, unbelievable military
- 7:42Speaker 1: operations in history. The Maduro capture in Venezuela was unbelievable.
- 7:49Speaker 1: This is a foreign leader. They kidnapped him out of
- 7:52Speaker 1: his bedroom in the middle of the night with all
- 7:54Speaker 1: his security around, had him out of the country and
- 7:57Speaker 1: on a naval ship within like 10 minutes. It was unbelievable.
- 8:03Speaker 1: The rescue operation of that airman who was trapped behind
- 8:07Speaker 1: enemy lines in Iran, one of the most dazzling military
- 8:11Speaker 1: operations ever in history. Phenomenal. Amazing. I mean, there's a
- 8:17Speaker 1: bunch of these things. The taking out of those nuclear
- 8:20Speaker 1: plants in Iran. Remember that 37-hour flying bombing? It was amazing.
- 8:26Speaker 1: So you've got to give Hexeth credit for stuff like that.
- 8:29Speaker 1: You remember the guy before him? Who was that awful
- 8:32Speaker 1: defense secretary? Lloyd Austin. You remember the bumbling and fumbling
- 8:35Speaker 1: and the withdrawal from Afghanistan that got so many Americans killed?
- 8:40Speaker 1: It was so awful. That was the worst military operation
- 8:43Speaker 1: in history, so I could see calling for him to be.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But whatever you think of Hexeth, he has pulled off
- 8:48Speaker 1: the most amazing operations ever. Hey, speaking of that rescue operation,
- 8:53Speaker 1: it was the big feature story on 60 Minutes Sunday.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And Sunday was the season premiere, the new 60 Minutes.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I think it was the 59th season. The 59th season
- 9:05Speaker 1: of 60 Minutes. And it was pretty good. They went
- 9:11Speaker 1: back to the old formula that 60 Minutes always had,
- 9:15Speaker 1: which was a little story about some amazing thing that happened,
- 9:19Speaker 1: like in this case, the rescue operation. Then an undercover
- 9:24Speaker 1: operation with a hidden camera. And they did that on
- 9:27Speaker 1: a bunch of fraud schemes. They caught some people. Actually,
- 9:30Speaker 1: it was guys selling pardons or trying to sell pardons.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So that was quite an undercover piece. That was really good.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And then celebrity or sports profile. That was always the
- 9:41Speaker 1: formula of 60 Minutes. And it was the number one
- 9:44Speaker 1: show on television for decades. So they went back to
- 9:46Speaker 1: that formula. Under the last leadership for the last few years,
- 9:51Speaker 1: the formula would be attack Trump for the whole 60 Minutes.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Find something wrong with Trump for the whole 60 Minutes.
- 9:56Speaker 1: But this was back to the old formula. Well, the
- 10:01Speaker 1: left-wing people who hate the changes are thrilled. Not at
- 10:05Speaker 1: the new 60 minutes. They're thrilled that the ratings weren't
- 10:08Speaker 1: so hot. The season premiere only drew 8 million viewers,
- 10:12Speaker 1: which is a lot for television nowadays. For television nowadays,
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's huge, but only 8 million. It was down 21%.
- 10:20Speaker 1: from last year's season premiere. You know, in the good
- 10:23Speaker 1: old days, 60 Minutes used to get 50 million, 60
- 10:26Speaker 1: million viewers. But that was television back then. Nothing in
- 10:30Speaker 1: television gets anything anymore. And that may explain this drop here.
- 10:34Speaker 1: People don't watch network television anymore. In fact, 60 Minutes
- 10:38Speaker 1: with its 8 million viewers, that was the most watched
- 10:41Speaker 1: show in all of television all week, except for sports.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Sports does much better. In fact, you know, there was
- 10:49Speaker 1: an NFL game that was the lead-in for 60 Minutes.
- 10:52Speaker 1: The NFL game got $ 18. 5 million. $ 18. 5 million. That's the
- 10:57Speaker 1: only thing people watch on network TV. Sports can get
- 11:00Speaker 1: $ 18 million, $ 20 million. Primetime shows now get $ 3 million,
- 11:04Speaker 1: $ 2 million. David Muir, the ABC Evening News, that's the
- 11:08Speaker 1: highest-rated show usually. That can get $ 6 million. And as
- 11:12Speaker 1: I say, the 60-minute season premiere got $ 8 million. But otherwise,
- 11:15Speaker 1: very few people. watching network tv anymore it's 25 million
- 11:20Speaker 1: altogether watch network tv am radio 63 million so um
- 11:26Speaker 1: hey the emmy awards uh not so great ratings wise
- 11:30Speaker 1: not a lot of ratings the last uh decade with
- 11:33Speaker 1: the emmys but this year it was down even more
- 11:36Speaker 1: down 10 percent from a year ago it was on
- 11:40Speaker 1: nbc this year last year cbs but down 10 so
- 11:42Speaker 1: it took a big dip in the ratings uh woody
- 11:47Speaker 1: allen Believe it or not. You know how old he is? 91.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Woody Allen, 91. You got to give the guy credit
- 11:54Speaker 1: for one thing. He looks exactly the same. Whether he's 51, 31, 91,
- 11:59Speaker 1: he looks exactly the same. Maybe it's because he's wearing
- 12:05Speaker 1: the same exact sweater and shirt, the same glasses, but
- 12:09Speaker 1: he's 91 now. And going back to work, he's making
- 12:12Speaker 1: a new movie. That's right. Clint Eastwood making movies at 95.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Woody Allen at 91. Starts shooting his new movie next month.
- 12:22Speaker 1: His 51st movie. He shoots in Spain. It's called Madrid.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And apparently it's more than a background. Madrid is somehow
- 12:30Speaker 1: central to the plot. He's having trouble raising money. A
- 12:36Speaker 1: lot of people, after the whole scandal, would not give
- 12:39Speaker 1: him any money. Studios wouldn't finance him. The people that
- 12:42Speaker 1: usually finance movies wouldn't help him. He had to go
- 12:44Speaker 1: around and wine and dine... wealthy people to get some money.
- 12:49Speaker 1: That's why he was always with Epstein. He's all through
- 12:51Speaker 1: the Epstein files. He was always at Epstein's dinners, lunches.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Whenever Epstein had a bunch of star-struck civilians, wealthy people,
- 13:01Speaker 1: he'd make Woody Allen come over and sit with them.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And in exchange, Epstein would finance his movies. And Woody
- 13:09Speaker 1: Allen would also do it, not just to get money
- 13:11Speaker 1: from Epstein, but because there were a lot of wealthy
- 13:13Speaker 1: people there. And he'd get money out of them. You
- 13:15Speaker 1: get these wealthy guys. They're as starstruck as anybody. So
- 13:19Speaker 1: that's how he finances the films. Apparently he ran out
- 13:21Speaker 1: of people in America. So he's been doing this same
- 13:24Speaker 1: routine in France, Europe, other countries there. And he's raised
- 13:29Speaker 1: enough money. His last movie was shot in France. In French,
- 13:33Speaker 1: no less. Got great reviews. But it was called Coup
- 13:38Speaker 1: de Chance. I don't know anybody that remembers this movie.
- 13:41Speaker 1: But at least he's back in work. Uh, Hunter Biden
- 13:46Speaker 1: trying to make fun of, uh, Don Jr. Uh, for
- 13:51Speaker 1: having his wedding paid by a Russian oligarch was a
- 13:54Speaker 1: little stupid of Don Jr. Who's a very wealthy guy.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Don Jr. He's a billionaire. Certainly can pay for his
- 14:00Speaker 1: own wedding, but the wife, the woman he married, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: don't know. She's a little sleazy. She's a, they call
- 14:06Speaker 1: her a Palm beach socialite, which usually means sleazy. Uh,
- 14:10Speaker 1: she was the one that did this, uh, and you know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: whatever your wife wants, it's tough to argue, but the
- 14:16Speaker 1: wife's friends with this Russian oligarchy, it wasn't that much.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It was a tiny wedding, you know, like 50 people
- 14:26Speaker 1: cost a couple of hundred thousand. So the Russian oligarch
- 14:28Speaker 1: paid for it. I think it was on his, like
- 14:31Speaker 1: an Island that he owned, which is probably why he
- 14:33Speaker 1: paid for it. Bring attention to the Island. But, um,
- 14:36Speaker 1: there were a firework show. It wasn't, it was not
- 14:39Speaker 1: an elaborate wedding, but you still shouldn't have the guy
- 14:42Speaker 1: pay for it. It didn't look good. And then, You
- 14:43Speaker 1: know the media is going to go nuts and they
- 14:46Speaker 1: try to make it sound like the Russian oligarch with
- 14:48Speaker 1: ties to Putin. This guy has no ties to Putin.
- 14:52Speaker 1: He's a very wealthy guy in Russia. He's met Putin.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He's donated. Those are the ties. But it looks stupid.
- 15:00Speaker 1: You're a wealthy guy, Don Jr. You can pay for it.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But Hunter Biden trolling him. He said, Hunter says, I
- 15:06Speaker 1: got married on the rooftop of an apartment building. It
- 15:09Speaker 1: was much cooler. Well, If you're looking for lifestyle advice,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I don't think I'd copy Hunter Biden. But these two
- 15:17Speaker 1: guys like to pick on each other. And remember, this
- 15:20Speaker 1: is Hunter Biden, who's no model son either. This is
- 15:25Speaker 1: the guy that dated and slept with his brother's widow.
- 15:30Speaker 1: This is not a guy you want to copy. Anyway,
- 15:32Speaker 1: we've got a lot to get to. We'll take some
- 15:33Speaker 1: calls next. 800-321-0710 is the number. 800- 321-0710.
