- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So let's talk about time sucks. Oh God, this is just such a big
- 0:36subject for people. Such a big subject because
- 0:40everybody has a different opinion on where they lose their
- 0:43time. What sucks up your time?
- 0:46And for most people, the initial word that I hear most of all is,
- 0:50well, work sucks up so much of my time.
- 0:52Work just sucks up my time. And it may be very true that you
- 0:56have lots of things you have to do at work, but the question is,
- 1:01are you doing them and being proficient so that you can get
- 1:04your chores and your tasks done as quickly as you possibly can
- 1:08and then gain back some of your sanity and some of your time?
- 1:11And that is where the question lies.
- 1:15It's that these moments, these little things that we do that we
- 1:19know are taking away from our productivity.
- 1:24Grabbing the phone and scrolling on social media.
- 1:28Now, I'm the first person to tell you I don't hate social
- 1:32media. I think it's wonderful.
- 1:33I have friends all over the world that I made while I worked
- 1:36for Tony Robbins for so long, and I will tell you, for me,
- 1:40that is such a great way to connect with them.
- 1:42The other night I had such a gift because I got to connect
- 1:45with somebody who commented on a post of another person that we
- 1:49both mutually knew. I saw his name.
- 1:51I immediately thought to reach out to him on Messenger and he's
- 1:55all the way on the other side of the planet.
- 1:58And before you know it, three days later we're on Zoom having
- 2:01a call and he's talking to me about the podcast and everything
- 2:04else. And it was just such a gift.
- 2:07And it was a gift made possible by social media and I love that
- 2:13aspect of it. Now, do you have to control the
- 2:15amount of time you stay on it? Yes.
- 2:18Do you have to put timers on yourself?
- 2:21Yes. Do you have to say I choose not
- 2:23to go down a rabbit hole and never come back out?
- 2:25Yes. Because you can't stay out there
- 2:28all the time because you're a real world.
- 2:30We don't live in a virtual world.
- 2:31We live in a real world. And that's what we want to make
- 2:35the best we can make it be. We want to curate things that
- 2:37are just wonderful for ourselves because none of us are
- 2:40guaranteed a certain amount of time.
- 2:42So we have to make sure that we're doing an excellent job
- 2:46eliminating the time suck of being on social media.
- 2:50Now, at the same time, our phones are our productivity
- 2:53piece for so many of us. For me, certainly it is.
- 2:55It's where I meet all my clients.
- 2:57It's where I record the podcast, it's where I video.
- 2:59I do everything from this phone. So the phone is always in my
- 3:03hand. I have to be very conscientious
- 3:06though of what apps I'm going into and what's taking me away.
- 3:10Where am I giving up my time. So if you've never done the time
- 3:13study, it's an excellent little thing to do.
- 3:16Now, obviously the phone will give you that because you can
- 3:19look in your settings and everybody has different phones,
- 3:21so I'm not going to go through how to get there, but you can go
- 3:24through and it will give you where you spent, where you spent
- 3:28your time on your phone. Droids are different than
- 3:31iPhones, different versions of iPhones with different software.
- 3:34You have to make sure you go and look, but it will give you the
- 3:37whole layout of where you've spent most of your time on your
- 3:40phone and how many text messages you mean.
- 3:43You can find out everything about yourself.
- 3:45And for those of us who not like to nerd out, it is really,
- 3:49really useful. So highly recommend doing that
- 3:52just as a check. But I also recommend sitting and
- 3:55writing it all down on a pad because it gives you an idea of
- 4:00exactly what you're doing. And you can set a timer for
- 4:03yourself and when the timer goes off, you're done.
- 4:05You walk away from it because there are some apps.
- 4:08Game apps are absolutely addictive.
- 4:10And while some puzzle games are excellent for your brain, at a
- 4:14certain point they take away from your connectivity of other
- 4:17people. So it's important to remember I
- 4:19don't need to constantly be on a puzzle app.
- 4:21Maybe I should put a puzzle on my table.
- 4:23Maybe I should do something different than just staying
- 4:27stuck in this flat, you know, as my Auntie Annie calls at the
- 4:31flat phone. You know, she's, she's in her
- 4:3580s and she's just the flat phone.
- 4:37And I love that when she says things like that.
- 4:39So being stuck there, yes, not a good thing all the time.
- 4:44Now again, we go back and say, well, a lot of these electronics
- 4:48help us because I have an iPad with an eye pencil and I draw
- 4:51into it and I use that pencil for taking notes and other
- 4:54things handy. But again, be aware this
- 4:59conversation is all about taking away the things that suck away
- 5:03your time and don't make you feel better at the end of it.
- 5:07Just like if you've got chores that you know are not the best
- 5:11use of your time and they make you stressed out to do them.
- 5:14Grocery shopping, one of those big things.
- 5:17A lot of people hate it. I personally don't mind it, but
- 5:19some people hate it. So go online and order your
- 5:22groceries and they'll have them all set for you.
- 5:25You pull up out front and they put them in your car.
- 5:27That time suck is gone. Make it happen.
- 5:30If you are privileged enough to be able to pay to have somebody
- 5:33come and help you clean your house or work with things, do it
- 5:37because it is a huge help. It is a huge help.
- 5:40So you're not putting your time into something and you're also,
- 5:44you know, making somebody else's life better by helping and
- 5:48hiring them and letting them be exposed to somebody as wonderful
- 5:50as you and helping take care of them.
- 5:52So never mind doing that. I mean, that is just one of
- 5:55those things. I have some people coming to
- 5:56help me put irrigation in at the farm.
- 5:59I love that. Could we do it ourselves?
- 6:00Yes, but we're also helping them and they'll be regular help out
- 6:04here for me do anytime I need to hire somebody and they're so
- 6:06excited about it and I'm so excited about it.
- 6:09So find your path to getting rid of the time sucks because I
- 6:13promise you, you will be happier.
- 6:16OK my friends, I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:18Have a blessed day. Bye.
