- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we are going to talk about being realist because I
- 0:37hear that so much from people hey Kim I'm just being a realist
- 0:42and since we are focused on cultivating and building up Joy
- 0:46and gratitude this week with Thanksgiving being this week,
- 0:50I'm going to talk to my realist today.
- 0:53When they say listen this is just what I'm what I'm what I'm
- 0:56dealing with this is just what's going on in my life, these are
- 0:59the conditions. Now, I'm not going to deny with
- 1:02you that sometimes you just have to be real about where you are.
- 1:06I mean, even myself who's like chronically optimistic, you
- 1:10know, I do tend to be a cockeyed Optimist.
- 1:13However, in that I do have scientific back up with it.
- 1:18I also have proof in the pudding and the one thing that I can
- 1:22tell you for sure, is that being a realist is part of an identity
- 1:30that you develop. For yourself because you want to
- 1:32always be practical, you always want to look at things and say,
- 1:35well no, this is just the way that it is.
- 1:36This is how the this is laying out, this is what's happening
- 1:39and I don't disagree with you on some of that.
- 1:41I think that, you know, yes, that is all very, very true.
- 1:45And we look at ourselves and we say, well, this is this is where
- 1:49I am and we get hunkered down in where we are and that's the
- 1:54problem because once you know where you are, once you take the
- 1:58information and you say, this is where I am.
- 2:00And this is how I feel and you have a benchmark for your
- 2:05position. The job at that point is to say,
- 2:10who is this really where I want to stay or do I want to go to a
- 2:12different place? Do I want to be a different
- 2:15person? Do I want to think differently
- 2:17see differently here differently?
- 2:19What else can I do to shift my reality right now?
- 2:22And that's where the work comes in.
- 2:24And some people will say, well, this is just the conditions, and
- 2:26this is where I'm stuck. No, it is not, it's where you
- 2:30currently are. Our but it doesn't mean it's
- 2:31where you have to stay. And even in dealing with other
- 2:35people, people will often comment and say, well, I'm just
- 2:39dealing with them and this is who they are, and I can't do
- 2:42anything about this. No, you can't shift other
- 2:45people's behavior, but you can shift your response to those
- 2:49people, which is what's so important in, you shifting your
- 2:53response in you having a different reaction to them,
- 2:59different Straight trajectory around, whatever they're doing
- 3:04saying, or being you change the dynamic.
- 3:07Therefore, it's the butterfly effect coming into play.
- 3:10You know what? You change.
- 3:12One minut reaction condition in a situation and therefore
- 3:17something has to change. That's science.
- 3:19My friends. That's not whoo.
- 3:21So when you start considering this part of the puzzle and you
- 3:26start to say, I have options, I can shift things.
- 3:32It's inevitable, things will change.
- 3:34So when you start to approach your life from this position,
- 3:39instead of just seeing it, as this is where I am, I'm stuck, I
- 3:43can't do anything. Everything shifts, everything
- 3:48shifts. So it all depends on you.
- 3:52It all depends on how you're willing to allow yourself to
- 3:55make those small changes. And sometimes it's really hard
- 3:58when you're a realist and you've been trained in your brain to
- 4:00believe. I'm a realist, this is who I am.
- 4:02This is what I'm doing because it's a, it's a pattern of
- 4:07behavior and it's one. That's usually very, very, very
- 4:11ingrained and it's usually one that is by far without Question,
- 4:17one of the hardest ones to break because you know what you're
- 4:19doing and quite honestly you've done it so many times in every
- 4:23situation so you feel comfortable showing up that way.
- 4:26So you have to be the only person that can interrupt it.
- 4:30You have to be the one that makes the decision to say, I'm
- 4:32going to try something different and I'm not suggesting you give
- 4:35up being a realist. God forbid, we do that, we're
- 4:37not doing that, okay? All we're doing is saying, Hey
- 4:41listen, I'm going to put it in perspective.
- 4:43I'm going to be focused on the things, the small The things
- 4:46that I can look at and that I can shift right now which are
- 4:50tiny tiny just to start breaking the pattern, just tiny little
- 4:54things to start breaking the pattern.
- 4:55I'm going to look for a little bit of optimism.
- 4:57I'm going to try to find a little bit of gratitude.
- 5:01I'm going to turn my focus on me instead of the outside world and
- 5:08I'm going to be truthful with myself about what I'm thinking
- 5:11about consistently what are the things that are driving my
- 5:14beliefs around this stuff? And then I'm going to pull
- 5:17myself into a better position by doing the work inside instead of
- 5:22just observing that outside is so wrong and making me have the
- 5:27life that I currently have that. I don't want.
- 5:30So it's a it's a work in progress but it definitely can
- 5:33be done and I'm not at all suggesting that you give up.
- 5:39Like I said, you're not you don't have to give up being the
- 5:41realist. But what you do have to allow in
- 5:43order to cultivate that high level of joy and gratitude Is to
- 5:46recognize as the realest that you have far more control than
- 5:51you think you do, and you practice it in small tiny ways
- 5:54and everything around you will shift.
- 5:57So, I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 6:01tomorrow. Bye.
