- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell Mom, Hello, and welcome back to No Dribble,
- 0:22Speaker 2: the podcast where we talk about netball, but we talk
- 0:24Speaker 2: about so much more. And I'm very excited to say
- 0:28Speaker 2: I am back shoulder and because we're sitting down, obviously
- 0:31Speaker 2: we were standing up, we wouldn't be shouldered to shoulder.
- 0:33Speaker 2: But I am next to Katherine Anne again in the studio.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm Carolyn, I am Katherine.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I'm very excited about that, but not so much about
- 0:42Speaker 3: our tipping competition anymore.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It's interesting, isn't it. And of course up on the
- 0:47Speaker 2: far North Coast we have.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Liz Elis and I'm excited that you two are in
- 0:51Speaker 1: the same spot again. And I've got no idea about
- 0:54Speaker 1: the tip in competition because I lost interest when I
- 0:56Speaker 1: realized that I just couldn't really do much. So please
- 0:59Speaker 1: tell I think.
- 1:00Speaker 3: You got two from four this week because two home
- 1:03Speaker 3: teams won, so you got two more than me. Elizabeth,
- 1:07Speaker 3: if you have only been tipping the home games for
- 1:10Speaker 3: our valor, Dribbler's tipping comps so far you would be
- 1:14Speaker 3: on a score of six.
- 1:15Speaker 2: If you are me, you are on a score of four.
- 1:19Speaker 2: So and I'm not coming last. I'm close to it,
- 1:23Speaker 2: but I am not. I am not bringing up the rear.
- 1:26Speaker 2: But yeah, so it's we have had a it's been
- 1:29Speaker 2: a low scoring round. Can so this is the one
- 1:32Speaker 2: to you.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Know, suck. Suddenly I was out of the blocks. I started.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Wearing cocker hoop. We my goodness, how high? Howar you've
- 1:42Speaker 1: fallen into? I know.
- 1:44Speaker 3: So I saw some of the dribblers on the Facebook
- 1:46Speaker 3: page saying that, you know, they struggled and they're going
- 1:49Speaker 3: to stay away from stats and seeing who's playing and
- 1:53Speaker 3: who's not. They're going to just go with their guts.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And I thought, that's what I need to do for
- 1:57Speaker 3: the next coming weeks and see how that plays out,
- 1:59Speaker 3: because I.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Think we should just work on our guts. Does that
- 2:02Speaker 1: mean more cake?
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yes? Yeah, yeah great? Why not?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I'm on a cake, bread, a pasta band just for
- 2:11Speaker 2: I don't know, probably let's go for six hours in
- 2:13Speaker 2: the first instance, I'll put myself on a band there.
- 2:16Speaker 4: But yes, how are you feeling? You've literally just.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Landed, just landed this morning. Landed six hours ago. We
- 2:22Speaker 2: flew and pretty well flew straight through. We had a
- 2:25Speaker 2: couple of hours in Singapore. We've got a shower which
- 2:27Speaker 2: was very nice. But look, it took me a long
- 2:30Speaker 2: time to find a parking space this morning because I
- 2:33Speaker 2: just couldn't decide. You know, it's like, okay, this is
- 2:36Speaker 2: not I'm perhaps not functioning quite as well as I should,
- 2:41Speaker 2: but yeah, I feel all right.
- 2:43Speaker 4: You look alarmingly fresh, thank you.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That is the beauty of makeup.
- 2:46Speaker 4: You look fantas don't even have red eyes or anything.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Be done. Did you drop it out?
- 2:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we had eye drops the whole way, which
- 2:53Speaker 2: is which is very nice. But it is really nice
- 2:55Speaker 2: to be back. So it's a wonderful holiday. But it's
- 2:59Speaker 2: really good when you get The laundry has exploded everywhere,
- 3:02Speaker 2: so the house looks like chaos. But yeah, I'm looking
- 3:05Speaker 2: at my bed and thinking, tonight I'm going to sleep
- 3:08Speaker 2: better than I've slept for the last three and a
- 3:09Speaker 2: half weeks.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Well, this is my question, what at what stage are
- 3:12Speaker 3: you going to put yourself to bed? Are you trying
- 3:14Speaker 3: to last as long as possible.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Here's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to do
- 3:18Speaker 2: run Nepal training from five nuts can it. I am
- 3:23Speaker 2: praying for rain though, and Sydney is delivering on the
- 3:25Speaker 2: rain for me at the moment. But yeah, I'd have
- 3:29Speaker 2: to stay awake for as long as I can. But
- 3:30Speaker 2: if I can get to nine o'clock, I oh.
- 3:32Speaker 4: My god, I would have thought like five of us.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yeah, do you remember Catherine, when we were used to particular,
- 3:37Speaker 1: when we flew to England for test matches, we were
- 3:40Speaker 1: told we had to start preparing days before, so going
- 3:44Speaker 1: to bed I think earlier, and wearing sunglasses of dark
- 3:49Speaker 1: sunglasses during the day, so that like our circadian rhythm
- 3:53Speaker 1: was sort of moved a little bit. And when you
- 3:55Speaker 1: got on board, you want to drink coffee and you
- 3:57Speaker 1: weren't to drink alcohol. I mean, we won't like to
- 3:59Speaker 1: drink really anyway, but we were so careful. Now, when
- 4:04Speaker 1: you fly or you're not in a team, you don't
- 4:07Speaker 1: cay just like oh well jet legs yet lag when
- 4:09Speaker 1: you're in the team, like, you're so careful and you're
- 4:11Speaker 1: so regimented. And we'd get there and we'd have to
- 4:13Speaker 1: go for a walk to keep ourselves awake and wasn't.
- 4:16Speaker 3: There something around the four o'clock window, like at four
- 4:19Speaker 3: am four pm? Like we had to make sure. I
- 4:22Speaker 3: think when we were trying to adjust we were in
- 4:24Speaker 3: the sun at four pm because apparently there's something to
- 4:28Speaker 3: do with as you were saying whatever rhythms you just
- 4:30Speaker 3: called them, Liz, But yeah, yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 1: No, I think it was the opposite. This is when,
- 4:33Speaker 1: this is why we were no good. I thought we
- 4:35Speaker 1: had to wear sunglasses at four pm and have light
- 4:37Speaker 1: in our eyes at four am, so who knows. And
- 4:40Speaker 1: this is why you should just travel and get jet
- 4:42Speaker 1: lag and suck it up.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but you're you're a machine thinking you're going
- 4:46Speaker 3: to stay awake till nine. I'd be like five, that's
- 4:49Speaker 3: close enough, but then I'll.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Be awakenin that's you anyway, that's normal bedtime, I said
- 4:57Speaker 5: to half of last night because we had a monster
- 4:59Speaker 5: weeken buddy at school tomorrow, you are in bed at
- 5:02Speaker 5: seven point thirty at the absolute latest.
- 5:04Speaker 4: And then she begged and pleaded to sleep with me,
- 5:06Speaker 4: and I was like, fine, but seven thirty we go
- 5:09Speaker 4: to bed.
- 5:09Speaker 2: You went to bed.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I was out.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I got to say school holidays are still in well
- 5:14Speaker 1: in train at our place. I mean pressed that Harper's
- 5:16Speaker 1: back at school too, Do you go back? No, well,
- 5:19Speaker 1: the high school one's back tomorrow, but the primary school
- 5:22Speaker 1: one's back on Wednesday. Supposed to put all of their like,
- 5:26Speaker 1: all of their stuff at the start of the year,
- 5:27Speaker 1: which is why we had the world's longest summer holidays.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And now I'm like, cheepers, it's going to be termed
- 5:31Speaker 1: three before he goes back to school.
- 5:33Speaker 4: What's the justification on that? Is it teacher to staff days?
- 5:38Speaker 4: They thank god?
- 5:41Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think teachers get paid enough, and
- 5:43Speaker 1: I think they were too hard. I get that, but
- 5:45Speaker 1: unfortunately I prefer for them to have my children right now.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Well, I had a parent in Kail on the very
- 5:50Speaker 3: first day this morning, so we do carline. You just
- 5:52Speaker 3: drive in and you slow down to five and let
- 5:54Speaker 3: the army roll out. Anyway, Harper gets about to open
- 5:58Speaker 3: the door and realize this. All the other kids have
- 5:59Speaker 3: got there uniform on, and I was like, you'll be right,
- 6:03Speaker 3: someone else will. No, Mum, I'm not getting out with
- 6:06Speaker 3: must have uniform. Once we had to drive home quickly,
- 6:09Speaker 3: get changed and come back with the right uniform on. No,
- 6:12Speaker 3: it's still hot for winter.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Oh, greedy, So what's the winter uniform? Is it tights?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Well they don't. I think that's now optional. But it's
- 6:19Speaker 3: a tunic with a long sleeve shirt.
- 6:23Speaker 2: So I went to high school in Brisbane and this
- 6:25Speaker 2: is in the nineteen eighties. So the library was air
- 6:28Speaker 2: conditioned and then oh we got a computer lab and
- 6:31Speaker 2: that was air condition but nothing else was air conditioned.
- 6:33Speaker 2: But we had a winter uniform that was a wool
- 6:36Speaker 2: tunic over a long sleeve shirt with tights and a
- 6:40Speaker 2: blazer and you and we thought it was freezing cold
- 6:43Speaker 2: in winter in Brisbane then, but you know, it's so
- 6:46Speaker 2: But that's just inhuman, isn't it nuts?
- 6:49Speaker 1: No, yeah, it's so nuts. It's such a half back
- 6:52Speaker 1: to I don't know, maybe to England or something like that.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I mean, you're not that old, Carolyn, but it just
- 6:57Speaker 1: seems silly, like my kids go to kids went to
- 7:00Speaker 1: a public primary school. Those were the same stuff year round.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I reckon my son, I reckon, he wear shorts every
- 7:06Speaker 1: single day of the year. I can't remember. It doesn't
- 7:08Speaker 1: own a long pair of school path You.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Don't feel the cold when you're a kid at all,
- 7:11Speaker 3: like we used to always be in the pool as kids,
- 7:13Speaker 3: didn't we always and now I'll wait even jump in
- 7:16Speaker 3: if it's not twenty five twenty six nice and balming.
- 7:19Speaker 1: On the inside and thirty on the outside.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe you had a good holiday though, Lisa.
- 7:24Speaker 4: We'll get to Carolin's at a minute. But what have
- 7:26Speaker 4: you been up to?
- 7:27Speaker 1: We haven't been up to much actually, so normally I
- 7:30Speaker 1: booked lots of things in the school holiday and the
- 7:32Speaker 1: kids be begged and pleaded to just not. So we've
- 7:36Speaker 1: just mooched around home so done a bit of gardening,
- 7:40Speaker 1: went to the cricket nets a few times. Matthew Ransom
- 7:44Speaker 1: rugby training for the kids. I said, no, not even
- 7:47Speaker 1: running netball training during the school holidays. So I'd love
- 7:51Speaker 1: to report something really exciting, but no, so Catherine, I
- 7:55Speaker 1: was just thinking about, you know, Harper turning up in
- 7:56Speaker 1: her winter uniform, in her summer uniform for winter. What
- 8:00Speaker 1: about the kids who turn up on mufty days in
- 8:02Speaker 1: their school?
- 8:02Speaker 4: You know?
- 8:03Speaker 1: I know, did you ever do that?
- 8:04Speaker 2: There was something cool about doing that, though, wasn't there?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Because you're going I'm going counter, I'm not buying into this, so.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Oh was that you? I wouldn't. I would like to
- 8:14Speaker 4: follow the.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Definition Carolyn is vastly different to my definition.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So no, that's not No one else finds that.
- 8:21Speaker 3: No, no way. I did not want to stand out.
- 8:23Speaker 3: I wanted to blend in because you know, six foot
- 8:26Speaker 3: plus it's hard to blend in. I love yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 1: And you know you would always read books as kids
- 8:33Speaker 1: about the American school system and they all none of
- 8:35Speaker 1: them wore in uniforms, and you were like, oh, I'd
- 8:38Speaker 1: love to do that, And then you'd hit Mufty Day,
- 8:40Speaker 1: particularly in high school, and it takes you fifteen days
- 8:42Speaker 1: to figure out what to wear a mufty day. And
- 8:44Speaker 1: changed clothes four times that morning, and eventually I understood
- 8:47Speaker 1: why we need school uniform.
- 8:49Speaker 3: IRP had this conversation with me yesterday about oh, I
- 8:52Speaker 3: wish we had Mufty Day, and I said, no, you
- 8:54Speaker 3: don't you say that now, but it would know how
- 8:56Speaker 3: long it takes you to find an outfit now to
- 8:57Speaker 3: take you forever.
- 8:58Speaker 4: And then imagine all the washing I'd have to do,
- 9:00Speaker 4: la la, la la.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And this morning when I stuffed up the uniform, See mum,
- 9:04Speaker 3: if it was Mufty Day, we wouldn't be having an issue, okay, noted, I.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Love it just delayed the issue too tomorrow.
- 9:13Speaker 2: No, but this is what we used to find. And
- 9:15Speaker 2: then I was at at an all girls, quite wealthy
- 9:19Speaker 2: private school, and my parents weren't wealthy, so I didn't
- 9:21Speaker 2: have a lot of designer gear. Back back then in
- 9:24Speaker 2: the eighties, we had people wearing jag and stuff to
- 9:26Speaker 2: school in my target Giar Stuart memory, Yeah yeah, but
- 9:32Speaker 2: so so that's why a number of us went, we're
- 9:34Speaker 2: not going to do mufty day, We'll just whatever, We'll
- 9:36Speaker 2: just wear the uniform. And that was we were trying
- 9:38Speaker 2: to be cool. But actually it was just that we
- 9:40Speaker 2: were preferring the anonymity of the of the of the uniform.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I love this. There you go.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Indeed, we've been wearing uniforms for about three and a
- 9:49Speaker 2: half weeks so because we did our whole trip to
- 9:51Speaker 2: Europe with carry on baggage.
- 9:52Speaker 4: So you did not it was good.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It was really on and off trains all the time,
- 9:58Speaker 2: so just having we each had a wheel suitcase and
- 10:00Speaker 2: a backpack and.
- 10:02Speaker 4: So how many kilo are we talking here?
- 10:04Speaker 2: Ah, So it was more about the dimensions of the
- 10:08Speaker 2: bag rather than the kelos less. Internationally, not many people
- 10:12Speaker 2: are traveling with the carry on baggage everyone is taking
- 10:15Speaker 2: the big suitcase. But yeah, so we bought a few
- 10:18Speaker 2: things along the way, but it just gets boring. That's
- 10:20Speaker 2: the only thing is you have to do laundry often
- 10:23Speaker 2: and it does get a bit boring. But cold too though, Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 2: look I spent I spent the first while we were
- 10:31Speaker 2: in London. I was cold quite a lot. I just
- 10:33Speaker 2: I wasn't and that's that's that's not that fun. But
- 10:37Speaker 2: you're not you know, when it's actually cold. You're not
- 10:39Speaker 2: outside that often, are you. So it's like you go inside.
- 10:41Speaker 2: But it's just it's it's a changed paradigm for me
- 10:46Speaker 2: for travel with kids that it's like, yep, you can
- 10:49Speaker 2: pack it, if you can carry it.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Oh, I think that's a good call. But you know
- 10:53Speaker 1: that that would probably get you arrested and put in
- 10:55Speaker 1: detention in the United States if you tried that. If
- 10:58Speaker 1: you're traveling with just carry on it, doesn't that raise.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Suspicious Well, now, I think there are a lot of
- 11:03Speaker 2: questions about getting in and out of the country, and
- 11:05Speaker 2: if you went in just with that, there might be
- 11:07Speaker 2: a kind of well what are you here for? When
- 11:09Speaker 2: we doubt that you're here for a holiday. If you've
- 11:11Speaker 2: only got this much. I'm going to the US in June,
- 11:14Speaker 2: so I should remember that. Actually, take a Gina, what
- 11:17Speaker 2: are you going.
- 11:17Speaker 4: To the US for?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Well, we should have a party in case you don't
- 11:20Speaker 1: come back.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Just in case we don't see you. Party it.
- 11:26Speaker 2: It's a bit nervous about it, actually, Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Because I was going to say that came out worse
- 11:30Speaker 1: than I thought. But you know, the sentiment is that,
- 11:33Speaker 1: like you hear, you read stories about people getting randomly
- 11:37Speaker 1: put into tentions over there.
- 11:38Speaker 4: She's going to the US, not the Middle East.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Real you need to read more newspapers.
- 11:45Speaker 4: No, I'd rather not know.
- 11:47Speaker 2: My dad did his PhD at the University of Idaho
- 11:51Speaker 2: when I was born, so fifty five years ago, and
- 11:53Speaker 2: he has every couple of years they have a reunion
- 11:56Speaker 2: of the people who were doing there because it was
- 11:59Speaker 2: a flur chemistry, so they're all in labs and working
- 12:02Speaker 2: long hours, so they have these reunions. The woman who
- 12:04Speaker 2: was my father's PhD supervisor is still supervising postdoctoral chemistry student.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But she's how old now there ninety four ninety.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Two was her.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It was her ninetieth birth thirty two years ago when
- 12:17Speaker 2: we went and she this woman is incredible. She's she's
- 12:20Speaker 2: sharp as attack. She's been responsible for something like eight
- 12:24Speaker 2: hundred academic publications, journal articles and things. So, yeah, so
- 12:29Speaker 2: I go with Dad, just because he's now of an
- 12:33Speaker 2: age where he's more comfortable if he's got someone traveling
- 12:36Speaker 2: with him, and his wife is no longer interested in it.
- 12:38Speaker 2: She's like, no, you can go. So Dad and I
- 12:40Speaker 2: will go with a few days in Vancouver to acclimate
- 12:43Speaker 2: and then go across the border. But because we're only
- 12:46Speaker 2: going to be in the US for three or four days,
- 12:48Speaker 2: that could look dodgy too, so you have to really
- 12:50Speaker 2: make sure that you've got all your bona fide. He's
- 12:52Speaker 2: laid out now, I think, So.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Only three or four days all the way over there
- 12:55Speaker 4: and back.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah, oh well we'll go. We'll have three or four
- 12:58Speaker 2: days in Vancouver first, and then he got you to
- 13:00Speaker 2: because we're going to Idaho. That'll do three or four days,
- 13:05Speaker 2: I think. And it's like I was there two years ago,
- 13:07Speaker 2: and I was there three years ago, and I've done
- 13:09Speaker 2: everything that It's Moscow, Idaho is the is the town.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It's a unit of small university town and it's lovely.
- 13:15Speaker 2: But you know, it's like I've spent quite a bit
- 13:17Speaker 2: of time.
- 13:17Speaker 3: There, so your actual fear of going to the US
- 13:19Speaker 3: is more about boredom than anything else.
- 13:23Speaker 2: There's a big Walmart.
- 13:24Speaker 4: I always love looking at a Walmart, right, Oh god.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Do you know what I've not been to Walmart? Is it?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Like?
- 13:31Speaker 1: Is it? What's it? What's it comparable to it?
- 13:33Speaker 4: Like a Costco?
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's sort of like a combination between a Target
- 13:39Speaker 2: and a Costco. So it's got more. You know how
- 13:42Speaker 2: Costco doesn't have the big have the merchandising. It is
- 13:45Speaker 2: more of a bulk thing. So Walmart's not about the
- 13:47Speaker 2: bulk buying, but it doesn't have the merchandising that you
- 13:50Speaker 2: would find in a Target or a kmart or whatever.
- 13:52Speaker 2: But you know, again, it's just the scale of these
- 13:55Speaker 2: things that you can go and I wander around like
- 13:57Speaker 2: it's a museum. I really buy anything. But yeah, it's great.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It's great for taking home gifts for the kids. It's like, oh,
- 14:03Speaker 2: here's a three dollar Minecraft T shirt and he's sixty
- 14:06Speaker 2: four her she's kisses for two bucks, and you don't
- 14:09Speaker 2: want to think about who's making these things. But you
- 14:11Speaker 2: know it's good for good for the children. And except
- 14:15Speaker 2: how were making them and Catherine, yes her, she's kisses
- 14:18Speaker 2: for you.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Well sure, okay, I had to take any kind of
- 14:20Speaker 3: kiss at this point, very much.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Anyway. So it was But that meant because I've been
- 14:27Speaker 2: flying for the last year and a half, it feels
- 14:31Speaker 2: like I was on this plane coming back. I didn't
- 14:33Speaker 2: get to see any of the games on the weekend,
- 14:36Speaker 2: so you were up at.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Well I did Radelaide last weekend, the Swift Thunderbirds game,
- 14:41Speaker 3: and that was the closest game of the round at
- 14:44Speaker 3: eight goals.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Amazing, What how were.
- 14:46Speaker 4: We supposed to tip this?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Quack? I love this. This is ruining netball for you.
- 14:52Speaker 3: And you know, like every time I'm watching the game,
- 14:55Speaker 3: I'm like, oh god, and I'm really struggling to keep
- 14:58Speaker 3: my focus on when I'm seeing all results. But so
- 15:01Speaker 3: then it was ten goals yesterday the Fever and the Vixens.
- 15:05Speaker 3: How great to have foul and their marred back and
- 15:08Speaker 3: the MVP in her first game back. Well, really, she
- 15:12Speaker 3: looks incredible, She looks amazing. She was fantastic and just
- 15:17Speaker 3: straight away you can see the confidence that she brings
- 15:21Speaker 3: to the rest of the team. Everyone around her lifted.
- 15:23Speaker 3: They were without both of the Aryan sisters, So I
- 15:26Speaker 3: actually thought that was a bit of an upset. I
- 15:28Speaker 3: thought it'd take them a while to adjust to having
- 15:30Speaker 3: foul back but poor, Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 2: That's what I thought. I tipped. I tipped the Vixens
- 15:35Speaker 2: because I thought, well, the Fever have had so much
- 15:37Speaker 2: disruption in the past couple of weeks that and it
- 15:40Speaker 2: will take Janelle a while to settle back in. But
- 15:43Speaker 2: apparently not.
- 15:44Speaker 4: No, And then the other two games were fourteen goal margins.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Crazy, That is crazy. I think it's interesting with Janielle
- 15:51Speaker 1: Fowl and Theimbard, Like I reckon, you can get caught
- 15:53Speaker 1: up going, oh, she's just good because she's tall, But
- 15:56Speaker 1: there's heaps of tall people around and they're not all plagues, supernetbable.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I think you've got to like it's interesting you say
- 16:02Speaker 1: Catherine that she gives. You could just see that whole
- 16:05Speaker 1: front line lift around her and it was really obvious,
- 16:07Speaker 1: wasn't it. They were. Their delivery was good. But you've
- 16:09Speaker 1: got to get the ball to in the first place,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and every team in this competition has worked out the
- 16:14Speaker 1: way to bet Fever is not you don't beat Janille
- 16:17Speaker 1: because you can't. You've got to beat everyone in front
- 16:20Speaker 1: of her, but that's hard to do when just her
- 16:23Speaker 1: presence gives them so much confidence. And I think some
- 16:26Speaker 1: of the balls she pulls in, I think talking about
- 16:30Speaker 1: just how tall she is actually does her such a
- 16:34Speaker 1: disservice because she's so athletic like her ability to pull
- 16:37Speaker 1: in balls, and the only other player who is like
- 16:40Speaker 1: her is Grace Dwiki, And you know, both of them
- 16:45Speaker 1: have this ability to contort themselves to get their hands
- 16:49Speaker 1: on the ball, and you can you sort of discount
- 16:51Speaker 1: it because you go, oh, they're both really tall, But
- 16:53Speaker 1: it's not just height that gets them there, right, It's
- 16:56Speaker 1: the footwork that gets them there. It's everything else. And
- 16:59Speaker 1: you know, yeah, fellon In Maud's tall, but man, there's
- 17:03Speaker 1: so much more to her than that, And I think
- 17:04Speaker 1: you've hit the nail on the head. It's it's what
- 17:06Speaker 1: she also gives to the team around her. And there's
- 17:08Speaker 1: plenty of tall players who might walk on the court
- 17:10Speaker 1: and not give that confidence, but you know how hard
- 17:12Speaker 1: she works in training and that's where that confidence comes from.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Do you know, for the first year ever, I would
- 17:17Speaker 3: confidently put Shimona Jock in that category as well. She's
- 17:21Speaker 3: been unbelievable this season and the fact that they won
- 17:25Speaker 3: that game against the Giants by fourteen. They had no
- 17:28Speaker 3: Sasha Glasgow. They've still got Parkinson to come back, there's
- 17:31Speaker 3: no card Well.
- 17:33Speaker 4: The Maps could.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Actually get right through to the finals, I think very
- 17:37Speaker 3: easily if they keep this form up, keeping in mind
- 17:39Speaker 3: the sort of superstars they've got to come back in.
- 17:42Speaker 3: But even if Cardwell is fitting back, I don't reckon
- 17:44Speaker 3: she'd get a start over Jock at this point.
- 17:47Speaker 4: She's incredible.
- 17:47Speaker 1: That's interesting. Good Carbo can run Golla tack caun't she like.
- 17:51Speaker 1: She's very very good there. So you'd have to hope
- 17:55Speaker 1: that she hasn't lost any fitness through this injury to
- 17:58Speaker 1: be able to run, because if you can put her
- 17:59Speaker 1: on Jock in there.
- 18:00Speaker 4: That is it's unbelievable.
- 18:03Speaker 3: So so Well, you would have missed all the who
- 18:06Speaker 3: are up on the Sunny Coast?
- 18:08Speaker 2: Then, Yeah, so you went to this game. You weren't
- 18:11Speaker 2: commentating it.
- 18:12Speaker 3: No, No, I was commentating. I was commentating. Just before
- 18:16Speaker 3: the game, we get a text message from our producer
- 18:20Speaker 3: in Sydney saying Robert Irwin is coming to the game.
- 18:24Speaker 3: No one knows, so we were the only people at
- 18:27Speaker 3: that point that knew this was going to happen.
- 18:28Speaker 4: The teams didn't.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Know Lightning had been running this. The club have been
- 18:32Speaker 2: pushing this hard.
- 18:34Speaker 3: So Lightning management knew obviously, but they wanted it on
- 18:37Speaker 3: the download. They didn't want fans to know. Nothing like that.
- 18:40Speaker 3: But yes, they had been campaigning for what the whole season,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and they were sending him messages every week, coming from
- 18:47Speaker 3: each of the players and coming from the club, and
- 18:49Speaker 3: they had promised him a seat anytime he wants it
- 18:52Speaker 3: at Uni sc Arena. So anyway, we get this message
- 18:55Speaker 3: saying he's going to be the ball deliverer. He walks
- 18:58Speaker 3: out with the ball and people were kind of just looking,
- 19:02Speaker 3: and then.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Nather bloke taking a job off a nine year old
- 19:05Speaker 2: girl keys.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Then he turns around, looks at the crowd, and the
- 19:09Speaker 3: place went bananas.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Was it only that moment that the crowd realized I
- 19:15Speaker 2: was No.
- 19:15Speaker 4: One new, even the players. So I think the word had.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Gotten out to the Lightning girls that it was happening,
- 19:20Speaker 3: but Firebirds no clue what was happening.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Everyone's faces it was unreal.
- 19:25Speaker 3: He took the ball out and gave it to I
- 19:26Speaker 3: think it was Macy Gardner was playing center for the Firebirds,
- 19:31Speaker 3: and then came over on our side the court, so
- 19:33Speaker 3: we're sitting just next to me, and he sat there
- 19:35Speaker 3: and he stayed the whole game. I thought for sure,
- 19:37Speaker 3: because he's so busy, he'd just fhoning back from the
- 19:39Speaker 3: US because he's doing Dancing with the Stars or something,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and he stayed for the whole game. Got interviewed at halftime,
- 19:45Speaker 3: and I think with something with the sunshine cost lightning people,
- 19:49Speaker 3: it was unreal.
- 19:50Speaker 2: He could travel with just carry on baggage because he
- 19:53Speaker 2: wears that same outfit all the.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Time, toothbrush and pocket.
- 19:57Speaker 2: He's got a school uniform, a mufty day he said,
- 20:00Speaker 2: So I'm not interested. I've got my uniform.
- 20:02Speaker 4: To be fair.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Though, after seeing his recent Bonds campaign, I was a
- 20:05Speaker 3: little disappointed he ran out with his shirt on.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Is that a bit creepy. He's only twenty one, but hey,
- 20:10Speaker 4: he's creepy. But he put himself in that campaign looking
- 20:13Speaker 4: very fit, very handsome.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Excellent work, Catherine Coxx creeping creepy.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Well she's he doing is acknowledging his hard work.
- 20:20Speaker 4: I am I applaud you, Robert.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I am annoyed though, because I thought that I was
- 20:26Speaker 1: the netball I'm a celebrity crossover.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that is not the case anymore. No, so I
- 20:32Speaker 1: feel like, you know, Robert Irwin's creeping into my and
- 20:35Speaker 1: and it's.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Not worth getting your shirt off trying to complete Liz.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Not anymore.
- 20:40Speaker 2: I do think though, Liz.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I've got way too many bits that don't stop when
- 20:45Speaker 1: the music.
- 20:46Speaker 2: You might still have the netball credentials. Just buy a
- 20:49Speaker 2: notes over Robert her and having been to one game,
- 20:52Speaker 2: maybe maybe you can still claim that you have more
- 20:55Speaker 2: expertise in that regard.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, and look, I'll happily give him the jungle
- 20:59Speaker 1: expert tease. He's very very good there.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but you are still the goat. He can have
- 21:05Speaker 3: the crocodiles, you can be the goat.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It was very do you know what was funny? I
- 21:08Speaker 1: was watching it and Kathy were there, so you would
- 21:11Speaker 1: have felt the excitement. But it was one of the
- 21:13Speaker 1: one of those times when when you watch it on
- 21:15Speaker 1: the screen the excitement comes through. You could just see
- 21:19Speaker 1: that people were so genuinely pumped about it, and so
- 21:25Speaker 1: like just that excitement. It was so spontaneous. It was
- 21:28Speaker 1: unreal to watch. It was really cool.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Kira Tromp got to interview him at halftime, and she
- 21:32Speaker 3: was so nervous but so excited and she was gurgling
- 21:36Speaker 3: him and trying to get all the dirt and it
- 21:38Speaker 3: was it was unreal, so jealous.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Oh that's right. Cool. Do you know once before a
- 21:42Speaker 1: game I interviewed Bindia, Oh did you back in the day? Yeah,
- 21:45Speaker 1: and they so Kelly Underwood when her and I used
- 21:48Speaker 1: to come and take together, she used to have a
- 21:50Speaker 1: box because she wasn't to make us look tall. Obviously,
- 21:53Speaker 1: they didn't show the box on screen.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I had to stand on a box when I did
- 21:56Speaker 2: hard quiz because I couldn't be seen over the lectin
- 22:00Speaker 2: me on one box and I still wasn't high enough,
- 22:03Speaker 2: and they put me on another box. And then there
- 22:04Speaker 2: was this big meeting about well is this safe? I said,
- 22:07Speaker 2: I'll be fine, don't worry about it.
- 22:09Speaker 4: So I'm having gone two boxes. Fine.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Can we get a cherry picker in here for this woman? Yeah?
- 22:18Speaker 1: Well that was very similar to what had to happen
- 22:20Speaker 1: with Bindi, right, because Kelly had a box that she
- 22:23Speaker 1: would stand on and it was a couple of inches
- 22:26Speaker 1: tall to make us look a bit even in our
- 22:28Speaker 1: height and then I mean, that's not unusual or right, Coxy,
- 22:31Speaker 1: You've commentated with plenty of people who have to stand
- 22:33Speaker 1: on a box next here mostly, but when Bindy came on,
- 22:36Speaker 1: because she's so diminutive, she's tiny, so they had the
- 22:40Speaker 1: same concern about if you put box on a box,
- 22:43Speaker 1: is that an injury worry. So then in the interview,
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm standing next to her and she's on a couple
- 22:48Speaker 1: of boxes and have like one of the floor managers
- 22:50Speaker 1: lying down holding the second box securely so that she
- 22:53Speaker 1: was okay, but like she was just divine. What a
- 22:57Speaker 1: beautiful family. She was so into and so into it.
- 23:01Speaker 1: And then it was just lovely to see Robert turning
- 23:03Speaker 1: up and doing the same thing for Netbull.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I've actually interviewed Robert before you are this is in
- 23:11Speaker 2: your going on radio winning No, this wasn't a competition
- 23:17Speaker 2: when this was just for another podcast a few years ago,
- 23:21Speaker 2: and he was again, he was the same, really really lovely.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Like I'm sure he was a little bit in media mode,
- 23:26Speaker 1: but he was.
- 23:27Speaker 4: He was awesome.
- 23:28Speaker 2: No complaints about how generous he was with his time.
- 23:31Speaker 1: He was great.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Everybody says that he's exactly the same off camera as
- 23:35Speaker 3: he is on camera like he just over the top, friendly, excitable,
- 23:39Speaker 3: just the most down to earth lovely person.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Well, people who met his father said the same thing too,
- 23:45Speaker 2: that the thing with Steve Irwin, the reason you can
- 23:47Speaker 2: love Steveh and in spite of how exhausting it is,
- 23:50Speaker 2: is that that's that was genuinely his personality, that it
- 23:54Speaker 2: wasn't just put on for the cameras. That's interesting.
- 23:57Speaker 4: So where did Bindy come up to on you?
- 24:00Speaker 1: On me?
- 24:01Speaker 4: Yeah, like shoulder, about the same height as Carolyn, really.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Normal height, very close to average height in Australia. I reckon,
- 24:12Speaker 2: I'm taller than Kylie Minogue. Okay, so Robert Irwin was
- 24:17Speaker 2: at the game, but can we talk about the netball
- 24:21Speaker 2: part of it? So that was that was a really
- 24:24Speaker 2: tough one to tip. But it looked like I haven't
- 24:28Speaker 2: seen it. It looked like the lightning had it from
- 24:30Speaker 2: the get go though. Yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 3: It was funny though, because it was quite a messy game.
- 24:33Speaker 3: The Firebirds looked like they should have been getting flogged,
- 24:37Speaker 3: but they were hanging in till half time. They almost
- 24:40Speaker 3: got in front in the second quarter. It was really bizarre.
- 24:44Speaker 3: They really struggled to find Mary Cholock, though, I think
- 24:47Speaker 3: in the first couple of games they were finding her
- 24:51Speaker 3: a bit easier and they got those two wins up.
- 24:53Speaker 3: But ash Irvin, who was the eventual MVP, had an outstanding.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Game on her.
- 24:59Speaker 3: She ended up with like a eleven gains or something
- 25:01Speaker 3: rather and ten deflections and rebounds of hoy hooy, Like
- 25:03Speaker 3: she literally had every start on the sheet. And then
- 25:06Speaker 3: Kara Conan was brilliant. At the end of the game
- 25:10Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter, she landed in the arc and
- 25:13Speaker 3: the game was nearly over.
- 25:14Speaker 4: They were up, so they were going to win it.
- 25:15Speaker 4: And you should have.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Heard the crowd because obviously all the pressure and the
- 25:19Speaker 3: chat around her shooting supershots has been immense, and the
- 25:23Speaker 3: crowd all were just like, yeah, you know, she had
- 25:27Speaker 3: no choice but to shoot it, and everyone was just
- 25:29Speaker 3: crossing their fingers.
- 25:30Speaker 4: That she'd get it in and she nailed to it.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Cool.
- 25:35Speaker 3: It was the best ending to the game ever because
- 25:38Speaker 3: it was her one hundredth game, her and Mahale Aucassidi's
- 25:42Speaker 3: and they were brilliant. Liz Watson was brilliant. Steph Fretwell
- 25:45Speaker 3: was like a bottle of grange, just amazing.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Yeah, they were really really good.
- 25:50Speaker 3: So it's interesting how much just ebb and flow is
- 25:53Speaker 3: happening with the teams every week. It's very hard to
- 25:56Speaker 3: pick at this point after seeing everyone for three, who
- 26:00Speaker 3: would end up in this top four?
- 26:02Speaker 4: Crazy?
- 26:03Speaker 2: Maybe not the right You want that.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Oh, you totally want that.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 26:08Speaker 4: See, I thought for sure the.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Giants would get a win during this round three because
- 26:16Speaker 3: they've got the experience. It's only a matter of time
- 26:19Speaker 3: before they all put that together and they get a win.
- 26:22Speaker 3: And I thought, without Sasha Glasgow playing for the Mavericks,
- 26:24Speaker 3: you've got Unique Polavi in a goal attack who's probably
- 26:28Speaker 3: not run a full sixty minutes at goal attack in
- 26:31Speaker 3: a very long time. I thought they'll struggle with that
- 26:33Speaker 3: connection to Shimona Jock a little bit. None of which
- 26:38Speaker 3: happened clearly.
- 26:39Speaker 4: So no, I don't know what.
- 26:40Speaker 2: The It's a mystery because I think they're a really
- 26:42Speaker 2: good team. And I've talked a lot about how last year,
- 26:46Speaker 2: although they came et, it was you know, over half
- 26:49Speaker 2: a dozen rounds, it was sort of ten points of
- 26:50Speaker 2: the difference between them being in the in the four.
- 26:53Speaker 2: But you know, I keep tipping them, and I keep
- 26:56Speaker 2: not getting any success in that.
- 26:58Speaker 4: And sadly they're fans.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I think you were getting not all of them, but
- 27:01Speaker 3: are getting a little bit jack of it. And there's
- 27:03Speaker 3: been comments floating around like they look disinterested in the
- 27:07Speaker 3: contest and all this sort of stuff, which they don't.
- 27:09Speaker 3: But I mean, LIZI you know what it's like when
- 27:11Speaker 3: you're not playing well. It's just it's really hard to
- 27:15Speaker 3: get your mojo, particularly in the midst of a game.
- 27:19Speaker 3: You used to always say as captain, just focus on
- 27:21Speaker 3: one goal at a time, you know, not the big margin.
- 27:24Speaker 3: But sometimes it's bloody hard, isn't it.
- 27:27Speaker 1: It's super hard, right, And sometimes the hardier work the
- 27:29Speaker 1: worst you get to because everyone's trying to do everyone
- 27:32Speaker 1: else's job. Like the good teams when they play, everyone
- 27:35Speaker 1: knows what their role is. They trust that everyone else
- 27:37Speaker 1: around them is going to do their role. But when
- 27:39Speaker 1: like Catherine, you and I have both been in teams
- 27:41Speaker 1: where when we haven't made finals or things haven't gone well,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and in those seasons you know that there's nothing wrong
- 27:49Speaker 1: with the team, you're just not playing well. But then
- 27:52Speaker 1: because you want to help out your teammates, you start
- 27:54Speaker 1: to sort of pick up try and pick up other
- 27:56Speaker 1: roles or help and you're getting each other's way. And
- 27:59Speaker 1: I feel like that sometimes happens with teams full of
- 28:02Speaker 1: good players who I think it's really harsh to say
- 28:06Speaker 1: an athlete is disinterested, Like no athlete wakes up in
- 28:09Speaker 1: the morning and goes, I'm going to go out there
- 28:11Speaker 1: today and not try it like that that it does
- 28:14Speaker 1: just does not happen, right, Well, it.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Defies logic, doesn't it. It's like they are there, they
- 28:18Speaker 2: work incredibly hard to get there, they work incredibly hard
- 28:22Speaker 2: to stay there. So it's not it's not a sensible
- 28:24Speaker 2: thing to say, like a no, and.
- 28:26Speaker 1: It doesn't like it's not meaningful, right, So an athlete
- 28:29Speaker 1: might go out and have a bad day or they
- 28:31Speaker 1: might have a drop in form, but that doesn't reflect
- 28:33Speaker 1: on the effort. And like Netble's about elite level is
- 28:36Speaker 1: so cut throat, like there's not a lot of contracts
- 28:38Speaker 1: on offer. You can't afford to look disisioned. Of course
- 28:41Speaker 1: not really, because there's always someone you happen at your heels.
- 28:44Speaker 1: So I think that's a really harsh thing to say.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And I was pleased to hear you call that at Catherine,
- 28:49Speaker 1: because I really do feel for athletes in that position
- 28:52Speaker 1: because I know you can. You know that they're working
- 28:55Speaker 1: their ring off at training. You know that they're trying
- 28:57Speaker 1: to help each other out, and sometimes you just either
- 29:00Speaker 1: get in each other's way or the hardier work, the
- 29:02Speaker 1: worse it gets for a period. But they've got good players. Like,
- 29:05Speaker 1: eventually they'll figure it out, We'll find it.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like they need to start making some
- 29:09Speaker 3: changes though, Like, you know, whatever is happening now isn't working.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Get Hope White on there for sixty minutes. Why not
- 29:16Speaker 3: get Matisse Leatherborough on there for sixty minutes. Senny played
- 29:20Speaker 3: just over a half Matisse on the weekend and she
- 29:22Speaker 3: was their biggest point scorer but only got thirty something minutes. Like,
- 29:26Speaker 3: just put them out there. I think at this point
- 29:28Speaker 3: three zip down to start the season.
- 29:30Speaker 2: There's a lot of not a lot of netball wisdom
- 29:33Speaker 2: in that organization though. On off quarter, so you know,
- 29:36Speaker 2: you Hope. It's interesting what you were saying there, Liz
- 29:38Speaker 2: about you know when teams are trying too hard then
- 29:41Speaker 2: and then they sort of get in each other's way.
- 29:43Speaker 2: I reckon that's what the Swifts did in the first
- 29:45Speaker 2: quarter of that game against the Thunderbirds. It's like they
- 29:47Speaker 2: were trying so hard that they weren't. They were working,
- 29:50Speaker 2: you know, really hard as individuals, and then in the
- 29:53Speaker 2: second quarter they came out and went, okay, let's reset,
- 29:55Speaker 2: let's do this, and then and they were unstoppable. Then
- 29:58Speaker 2: it was sort of was really in interesting. It was
- 30:00Speaker 2: like they sort of forgot that belief in themselves as
- 30:04Speaker 2: a team for that first quarter.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I reckon, you can put that down to Shamira Sterling
- 30:09Speaker 1: as well. She's so good. She just gets in team's
- 30:12Speaker 1: heads before before they walk on to Courton, right, so
- 30:15Speaker 1: you could see that the Swift's paying her so much
- 30:17Speaker 1: respects And you're right, Carolyn, they were paying her so
- 30:20Speaker 1: much respect They were working over time and it just
- 30:22Speaker 1: upset the rhythm of their game. And when they went
- 30:24Speaker 1: back to what they know.
- 30:25Speaker 2: They were better.
- 30:26Speaker 3: But the Swifts did incredibly well to pull themselves out
- 30:29Speaker 3: of that, because I have seen time and time again
- 30:33Speaker 3: that defensive pressure on sides doing what it did to
- 30:35Speaker 3: the Swifts and then that team capitulating.
- 30:38Speaker 4: But the Swifts didn't.
- 30:40Speaker 3: They you know, went had to chat about what they
- 30:42Speaker 3: needed to focus on and turned it around.
- 30:43Speaker 4: And it was probably exactly that.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Leads to stay in your lane, do what you do well,
- 30:47Speaker 3: don't go overboard.
- 30:48Speaker 4: So true, yeah, yeah.
- 30:50Speaker 1: The best teams are the ones whereone's really clear about
- 30:52Speaker 1: their role and they stick to it.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Be interesting to see tig and O'shannessy up against Janiel
- 30:56Speaker 2: whenever that happens. How good was was?
- 31:00Speaker 4: That was great?
- 31:01Speaker 2: Great to watch us and again not a starter came
- 31:04Speaker 2: on in the back end of the second quarter and
- 31:08Speaker 2: then ended up with five intercepts. So I would like
- 31:11Speaker 2: to segue from there to talk about the Valadriblers tipping
- 31:15Speaker 2: comp here because our winner of the round this week
- 31:18Speaker 2: Lysi Lou Lissi Lou Thissi Lou, that's her tipping name.
- 31:23Speaker 2: She's sitting in two hundred and thirty fifth position overall
- 31:25Speaker 2: on the tipping ladder, but she has won the weekly
- 31:28Speaker 2: prize by tipping the margin most closely. So even if
- 31:33Speaker 2: you are keeping me company down the back end of
- 31:36Speaker 2: the ladder there, make sure you put your tips in
- 31:38Speaker 2: and have a think about what that margin is because
- 31:40Speaker 2: that we have a fifty dollars Vala voucher going out
- 31:44Speaker 2: each week to a tipper, so we have got three
- 31:48Speaker 2: people sitting at the top of the ladder on twelve points,
- 31:50Speaker 2: you're not one of them.
- 31:51Speaker 4: By the way, I.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Most people nine people over this split round got bingo.
- 31:57Speaker 2: I e all four games and therefore got the bonus point.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Well done to you guys.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Most people got two out of four. Thirty seven people
- 32:05Speaker 2: scored zero this week. It was a tough a tough
- 32:08Speaker 2: round there.
- 32:09Speaker 4: So it's thirty seven more than we've had before. Yeah.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so in the past weeks we've had about only
- 32:15Speaker 2: nineteen or twenty people who scored zero. So did you
- 32:17Speaker 2: not get one? Not one?
- 32:19Speaker 4: And can I tell you I.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Know what that's like? That was me round one?
- 32:23Speaker 4: Yeah it's pooh yeah yeah, but.
- 32:25Speaker 2: You know when the worst times it's hard to tip
- 32:26Speaker 2: as zero round as it is a four round.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Well, I think I might go for the duck. Now,
- 32:30Speaker 4: what's the last prize turkey? What is it? It's some
- 32:33Speaker 4: place go on a turkey.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I'm going for it at this point, man, you'll have
- 32:39Speaker 2: to work hard to get down there with the rest
- 32:41Speaker 2: of it.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Maybe if I do that, if I try to come last,
- 32:43Speaker 3: I'll get my tips, right, Should I try that?
- 32:45Speaker 4: I might do that this week? Hey, but I'll tell
- 32:46Speaker 4: you the worst time to be a tipper.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Is when you have a beautiful lady come up to
- 32:52Speaker 3: you at the end of the game, who's a dribbler.
- 32:54Speaker 4: This is in the sunny case And she's like, oh, hi,
- 32:58Speaker 4: Katherine wear dribblers all you tip the Firebirds for this game?
- 33:02Speaker 4: And I was like, yeah, I did. I was like,
- 33:04Speaker 4: she goes, why would you do that?
- 33:05Speaker 3: I said, oh, And I just thought it was ash
- 33:07Speaker 3: Irvin's mother.
- 33:08Speaker 4: No, I mean, you could have bloody told me a
- 33:13Speaker 4: child was going to play.
- 33:14Speaker 2: So well, we've got a few of the players mums,
- 33:19Speaker 2: which is great. Aeron O'Brien's mum was I think she
- 33:24Speaker 2: was Maybe she was the wind beneath our wings or
- 33:26Speaker 2: she nominated a win beneath our wings anyway last year.
- 33:28Speaker 2: And we've obviously obviously got Julie Sliger. Yes, that's fun.
- 33:35Speaker 4: So yeah, she put me in my place.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I wonder if they're checking on us to see that
- 33:39Speaker 1: we're saying nice things about their daughters.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Well, I would love to know if we've got any
- 33:43Speaker 2: other dribblers who are parents of current players, let us know,
- 33:48Speaker 2: drop us a line, let us know that you're here.
- 33:49Speaker 2: We'd love to give you a shout out. It's the
- 33:52Speaker 2: fabulous that you're in our family as well as your
- 33:55Speaker 2: own family.
- 33:56Speaker 3: And then we of course will be extra special to
- 33:58Speaker 3: your daughters. It's part of the course. Hey, can I
- 34:06Speaker 3: tell you I found I have been to Disneyland, a
- 34:09Speaker 3: couple of places in la and in Honkers, but I
- 34:13Speaker 3: actually found the real happiest place on earth. On the
- 34:16Speaker 3: weekend Ida this post did post about this, so Meghan
- 34:21Speaker 3: Anderson I was in Brisbane to catch up with her.
- 34:23Speaker 3: She took me to the Karna Leagues Club. It has
- 34:27Speaker 3: got a kids club that is next level awesome. It
- 34:32Speaker 3: is like super cheap, fully supervised, and the entrance to
- 34:37Speaker 3: this kid's club is this slide that goes down underground
- 34:41Speaker 3: and they disappear. You don't see them again. You don't
- 34:44Speaker 3: even have to take them food because they feed them
- 34:46Speaker 3: down there. The whole thing was unbelievable. But the funniest thing.
- 34:50Speaker 3: You've obviously got a register the wall and you've got
- 34:52Speaker 3: to pay your money.
- 34:52Speaker 2: It's a bit like CSI Karina, though it doesn't. It's
- 34:55Speaker 2: like the children went and I didn't see them again.
- 34:58Speaker 3: She came back with this funny metal thing plugged into
- 35:00Speaker 3: her ear. But I'm sure that's fine. No, but before
- 35:03Speaker 3: they go down there, you've got to give all your details. Obviously,
- 35:06Speaker 3: you give your phone number so that if anything goes
- 35:08Speaker 3: wrong they can contact you. So I'm at the computer
- 35:10Speaker 3: putting my details in and it comes to phone number
- 35:13Speaker 3: and I put a phone number in and half was like, Mom,
- 35:15Speaker 3: you got the number wrong. At the end, you didn't
- 35:17Speaker 3: put the six down. I said it'd be fine. I'd
- 35:19Speaker 3: be fine. So they get the sticker out and they
- 35:21Speaker 3: whack the sticker on their back, so they've all got
- 35:22Speaker 3: their details on their back.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 35:25Speaker 3: She's like, Mom, the number's not right. I say, you'll
- 35:27Speaker 3: be fine, buddy, And she's about to go to the
- 35:28Speaker 3: slub mom.
- 35:28Speaker 4: And I'm like, you'll be fine.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Good that is.
- 35:35Speaker 4: They weren't. And this place was unbelievable, had rock climbing
- 35:39Speaker 4: walls and full arcade, like two massive wall lengths of
- 35:44Speaker 4: arcade games. Was crazy.
- 35:46Speaker 3: We went down there maybe two and a half hours
- 35:48Speaker 3: later to see if they're okay, and they didn't want
- 35:50Speaker 3: to leave. So if you're in Brisbane, get to the
- 35:53Speaker 3: Karina Leagues Club.
- 35:54Speaker 2: It's very smart, isn't it.
- 35:58Speaker 3: There's one actually in the Gold Code that we went to.
- 36:00Speaker 3: I think it's called sharks and they give it. You know,
- 36:02Speaker 3: when you go to a bistro and you get the
- 36:04Speaker 3: buzzer for your meal, they give you a buzzer.
- 36:06Speaker 4: For your kid. The best. So you pay your money
- 36:09Speaker 4: and they go into this room and they give you
- 36:10Speaker 4: a buzzer.
- 36:11Speaker 3: So if the kid wants to get out or a
- 36:12Speaker 3: few times up, they buzz you to come and get them.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So if you put the phone number on your kid,
- 36:17Speaker 1: they could buzz you. Yes, but I don't understand. Why
- 36:20Speaker 1: did you not put your phone number on?
- 36:22Speaker 4: No? I did.
- 36:22Speaker 3: I Just when I was typing it in, she noticed
- 36:24Speaker 3: that I'd left a number off the end.
- 36:26Speaker 4: You'll be right, You'll be right off your gape. I'm
- 36:31Speaker 4: sure that we'll find me.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Well, we had not been to the happiest place on
- 36:34Speaker 2: Earth in the past week. We were in Rome though,
- 36:37Speaker 2: when the Pope's funeral was on, and this is so typical,
- 36:41Speaker 2: so we decided to go to Rome. Neither of us
- 36:43Speaker 2: had ever been to Rome before. And then we found
- 36:45Speaker 2: out that it's the Jubilee this year, So if you're
- 36:47Speaker 2: not Catholic, every twenty five years, Catholics are sort of
- 36:51Speaker 2: called to come to make a pilgrimage to the Vatican,
- 36:55Speaker 2: so it's a at some stage over the course of
- 36:57Speaker 2: the year. So we knew the Jubilee was on, so
- 36:59Speaker 2: we went, we'll go to Naples instead, and that is
- 37:02Speaker 2: possibly my new favorite place on earth. It was absolutely fabulous.
- 37:05Speaker 2: But we did sort of thirty six hours in Rome.
- 37:08Speaker 2: We wanted to go to the coliseum, so that was
- 37:11Speaker 2: to catch our flight out. But not only is it
- 37:14Speaker 2: the jubilee, it was a long weekend. The twenty fifth
- 37:16Speaker 2: of April is a public holiday in Italy too for
- 37:19Speaker 2: Liberation Day, and then of course it was the Pope's far.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I have never seen so many people in my life.
- 37:29Speaker 2: It was like going to the Easter Shia. And I
- 37:31Speaker 2: did say to Pete that actually cheaper to take the
- 37:34Speaker 2: children to Europe than to take them to the Easter Shara.
- 37:36Speaker 2: But you know, it just you know, when you're in
- 37:38Speaker 2: those really crowded areas and it's all right, hang on
- 37:41Speaker 2: tight and so but it was just it was it
- 37:44Speaker 2: was quite incredible to be.
- 37:45Speaker 4: The feeling was it somewhat.
- 37:49Speaker 2: No, it was more sort of joyful. I mean, I
- 37:51Speaker 2: guess the Pope was eighty eight, lived a good life.
- 37:55Speaker 2: He was quite beloved, so you know, there were a
- 37:58Speaker 2: lot of people who were there who were there for
- 38:01Speaker 2: the jubilee anyway, and so this was just something that
- 38:04Speaker 2: they were able to attend on top of that. So no,
- 38:08Speaker 2: it didn't. We didn't go down, we didn't go anywhere
- 38:10Speaker 2: near Saint Peter's Basilica. On the day of the funeral,
- 38:13Speaker 2: we were at the Colosseum, and I thought that was smart.
- 38:16Speaker 2: We booked this ages ago. But then the motorcate or
- 38:21Speaker 2: whatever it's called, went past the coliseum afterwards, so that
- 38:24Speaker 2: was just as bad an idea. But no, the mood
- 38:26Speaker 2: wasn't The mood wasn't sad. It wasn't happy, but it
- 38:32Speaker 2: was not. Yeah, it was more of a I guess,
- 38:34Speaker 2: a celebration of his life.
- 38:36Speaker 3: And did I hear correctly that the next pope that's
- 38:39Speaker 3: appointed they have to be over eighty?
- 38:42Speaker 2: No, you the cardinals. So I'm an expert on this
- 38:45Speaker 2: because on the plane on the way over I watched
- 38:47Speaker 2: the movie Conclave but just goincidentally, but cardinals under eighty
- 38:54Speaker 2: can vote for the next pope. So the next pope,
- 38:56Speaker 2: I think the book he is sort of talking about
- 38:59Speaker 2: these wes. There's one who's who's only sort of maybe
- 39:04Speaker 2: late fifties early.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Sixties, sense, doesn't it? Yeah?
- 39:08Speaker 2: Right, Okay, one thing you can be sure of, it's
- 39:10Speaker 2: going to be a guy another job for the blacks.
- 39:13Speaker 1: That one.
- 39:14Speaker 2: But Gordy challenged me last week. Every day I was
- 39:17Speaker 2: in Italy, I was to have gelati, and I can
- 39:19Speaker 2: confirm that I did do that. And interestingly, the best
- 39:22Speaker 2: one I had was in Rome the other day, and
- 39:24Speaker 2: it was a basil flavored gelati.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Now did you try to do a different
- 39:29Speaker 4: flavor every time? Was that part of it?
- 39:31Speaker 2: Rules was not part of the ross, but it was
- 39:33Speaker 2: just part of my So.
- 39:34Speaker 4: What other fancy ones did you go?
- 39:36Speaker 1: Oh?
- 39:36Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't really super Yeah, yeah, basil, It
- 39:40Speaker 2: was really not because I and it's I never finished
- 39:43Speaker 2: in ice cream because I'm sort of halfway and it's
- 39:45Speaker 2: like that's sweet enough for me, and I'll hand it
- 39:47Speaker 2: off to someone in the family. But this one I
- 39:50Speaker 2: had the whole thing because it was a hot day
- 39:51Speaker 2: and and this was just so it was refreshing and
- 39:55Speaker 2: not not super sweet stretch of teller, which is the
- 39:59Speaker 2: like a chocolate chip, vanilla, mango, lemon and pastor or
- 40:06Speaker 2: hoy hoy, yeah, but not not past a flavored jelya good.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Well a Catherine, you I know you screwed your nose
- 40:13Speaker 1: up there and this is a this is a an
- 40:17Speaker 1: audio podcast, but you did screw your nose up when
- 40:21Speaker 1: Carolyn was talking about a basil gelato. But don't you
- 40:24Speaker 1: remember we went to Jamie Oliver's restaurant in London once
- 40:28Speaker 1: at the end of a tour as our want and
- 40:30Speaker 1: we had basil creambrolet and it was beautiful.
- 40:33Speaker 4: Yes, I do remember that.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Also got kicked out of that restaurant when the bakers
- 40:37Speaker 1: came in.
- 40:38Speaker 4: We talked about that last week or whatever it was.
- 40:41Speaker 4: That's right, I do remember that.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yes, and it was beautiful. And I also had like
- 40:47Speaker 1: a tune There was Tunor on special and he goes, yeah,
- 40:49Speaker 1: it's coming from Queensland. In big box. It was like
- 40:52Speaker 1: a coffin and I was said, right, I'll have the
- 40:53Speaker 1: coffin tuna. Yes, but you've had it before and it
- 40:57Speaker 1: was nice. That was back in the day before we
- 40:59Speaker 1: had children. Went to Karina RSL for dinner and instead
- 41:02Speaker 1: we went to Jamie Oliver's restaurant. And how times have changed?
- 41:04Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I know, right, God, I don't know if
- 41:07Speaker 3: that's depressing or not. At least we got it in.
- 41:09Speaker 3: We got the good stuff in.
- 41:10Speaker 1: It's true. Hey ladies, well Kroly, this might be more
- 41:14Speaker 1: for you than for Catherine, for reasons that are about
- 41:16Speaker 1: to become obvious.
- 41:18Speaker 4: I was.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I read something a little while ago about your relationship
- 41:23Speaker 1: is reflected in how you save your partner's name in
- 41:27Speaker 1: your phone, right, And the idea is that how you
- 41:30Speaker 1: save your partner's name is how you want your relationship
- 41:33Speaker 1: to be seen publicly. And I'm a little concerned because
- 41:37Speaker 1: I saved my husband under his name like Matthew Stocks, Yeah,
- 41:41Speaker 1: that's it.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I have my husband under Peter Cook too. It's like,
- 41:44Speaker 2: there's not it's not Hubby or it's not even Pete.
- 41:47Speaker 4: No.
- 41:48Speaker 1: And I'm kid, but I am considering changing it to
- 41:50Speaker 1: the meat tray.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Yeh's you need to.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Can you imagine though, if you're out somewhere with I
- 41:57Speaker 3: don't know, you're chatting to all the govern people and
- 42:01Speaker 3: whoever you're speaking to these days, and your phone's on
- 42:03Speaker 3: the table, meet Trey flashes.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Ah, that's funny. The last boyfriend though, was the full
- 42:12Speaker 4: name as well.
- 42:13Speaker 1: My Ah, So I wonder if it's like so this
- 42:16Speaker 1: whole thing was if you are insecure in your relationship,
- 42:19Speaker 1: you might have a really performative name like Darling or
- 42:21Speaker 1: babe or or something so that everyone can see that
- 42:24Speaker 1: you're in this great relationship. But then there was like
- 42:27Speaker 1: there was no good way because if you saved your
- 42:29Speaker 1: partner as their full name, it meant you were cold
- 42:31Speaker 1: and your relationships cold. But I feel like, look, I
- 42:34Speaker 1: got together with Matthew before mobile phones were invented, right,
- 42:37Speaker 1: so by the time by the time I got a
- 42:41Speaker 1: phone and put his name in, like we'll pass on
- 42:43Speaker 1: him in face, I was just like, just put his
- 42:45Speaker 1: name in, that's it.
- 42:46Speaker 2: So we were the complete opposite. Pete and I were
- 42:48Speaker 2: working at photophone when we met, and we were colleagues.
- 42:51Speaker 2: We met in a job interview where he interviewed me,
- 42:54Speaker 2: and about halfway through the interview, I thought, oh, this
- 42:57Speaker 2: is inconvenient, but yeah, so he was my colleague, and
- 43:03Speaker 2: then the relationship started very quickly thereafter, so you got
- 43:07Speaker 2: the job, Yeah, gets a job, And actually we started
- 43:12Speaker 2: we started seeing one another very quickly after I saw
- 43:16Speaker 2: and then we had to take our boss out for
- 43:18Speaker 2: coffee one morning, and so, oh, we're dating, and he said,
- 43:23Speaker 2: is it serious? And it's like, oh, shut up, I
- 43:25Speaker 2: don't know.
- 43:28Speaker 4: Someone's dad.
- 43:30Speaker 2: And I'm thirty two, so I'm thirty four years old
- 43:33Speaker 2: at this stage. I'm not a child. But it's like,
- 43:36Speaker 2: fortunately Pete was much more mature than I was, and
- 43:38Speaker 2: it was like, well, you know, we wouldn't be we
- 43:40Speaker 2: wouldn't be going through this if we weren't serious about
- 43:43Speaker 2: one another. I thought, oh, okay, we're serious about one another.
- 43:45Speaker 4: And you've got his full name dash my boss your phone,
- 43:49Speaker 4: not my boss.
- 43:50Speaker 2: He was my he was my peer, but he was
- 43:52Speaker 2: on the interview panel. It was our boss and him
- 43:55Speaker 2: who interviewed who interviewed me?
- 43:57Speaker 4: Oh so funny.
- 43:59Speaker 2: But so it's just I stayed that way so that
- 44:01Speaker 2: you know, Vodaphone gave me phone when I started that job, obviously,
- 44:04Speaker 2: and I put my and you.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Were at tempted to You aren't tempted to put a
- 44:07Speaker 1: fake name in because you didn't want people to know
- 44:09Speaker 1: that he was your boyfriend.
- 44:11Speaker 2: No, no, well that would be more in the behaviors
- 44:14Speaker 2: rather than looking at my phone, wouldn't it.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Yeah, right, so tongue pashing in the hallway give away?
- 44:23Speaker 4: What have you got the kids in your phone? Then?
- 44:25Speaker 2: Though, as well, well, my daughter doesn't have a phone yet,
- 44:29Speaker 2: and my son is his full name, first name, surname. Okay,
- 44:33Speaker 2: he's got me in a taza, which is outrageous. You know,
- 44:36Speaker 2: get to a certain point where your children stop calling
- 44:39Speaker 2: your mum. It's like there's two people in the world
- 44:43Speaker 2: who can call me mum, and one of them is
- 44:46Speaker 2: just gone. While I'm opting out of that. Now, I'm
- 44:48Speaker 2: going to call you by your name, and I like

- 44:55Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone's got a phone, and she's just in there
- 44:57Speaker 1: is her full name. So like, now I feel like
- 45:00Speaker 1: I've I feel like I've missed something in my parenting,
- 45:03Speaker 1: in the warmth of my parenting, because I don't have
- 45:05Speaker 1: her in there as I thought for sure. Well, I
- 45:09Speaker 1: call her full fright and she hates it, and I
- 45:11Speaker 1: can't help it. When I'm watching her playing netball or football,
- 45:14Speaker 1: I'm like, go full fee and she gets so angry.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah I'd hate that too.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Yeah, my little food. I know she hates it so
- 45:25Speaker 1: and I know some of her friends mums listen to
- 45:27Speaker 1: this podcast. Please don't tell everyone, and please don't call
- 45:30Speaker 1: her full fee because and I am in so much trouble.
- 45:32Speaker 1: But no, I didn't put in the fight. I know.
- 45:34Speaker 1: It's so weird, isn't it? Like I hate how like
- 45:37Speaker 1: these pop psychology things come up on socials and you're like, oh,
- 45:41Speaker 1: am my relationships colored and my insecure. No, it's because
- 45:43Speaker 1: someone with needed to justify their job at some social

- 45:50Speaker 1: it means when you put your part.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Well, it's simply the next iteration of the quizzes we
- 45:54Speaker 2: did in Dolly, isn't it. It's like, you know, truth,
- 45:57Speaker 2: is your boyfriend serious about you? I don't know. I

- 46:22Speaker 4: sitting over there.
- 46:23Speaker 2: It's a handsome lad.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Isn't he?
- 46:25Speaker 1: But the key is what's what's he in your phone?
- 46:27Speaker 1: As well?
- 46:28Speaker 4: Yes, I don't know. I'll get back to you on that.
- 46:31Speaker 2: I had an imaginary boyfriend named Dennis at Uni because
- 46:34Speaker 2: all my friends had boyfriends, and so we do the
- 46:36Speaker 2: quizzes in Cleo and Cosmo and it's like, oh, I'll
- 46:39Speaker 2: just you know, my boyfriend Dennis thinks this, so everybody
- 46:42Speaker 2: knew there was no such person.
- 46:45Speaker 4: I was like, I'm not sure whether I should feel
- 46:47Speaker 4: sad for you right now.
