- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Well, the wages of sin is death, but the gift
- 1:28Speaker 2: of God is eternal life. In Christ Jesus our Lord Romans,
- 1:34Speaker 2: chapter six and verse twenty three, there is a portion
- 1:41Speaker 2: of this particular scripture that brings us to a greater
- 1:46Speaker 2: understanding of the wonderful, magnificent life in the fullness of God.
- 1:55Speaker 2: And I need to bring us back that portion of
- 1:59Speaker 2: this scripture that we just read showed us that what
- 2:04Speaker 2: we should be paid for our sin in our old
- 2:08Speaker 2: nature is death, eternal death, separation from God, not just
- 2:16Speaker 2: physical death, but spiritual death, complete separation from the God
- 2:25Speaker 2: who created all the universe, everything that we can even
- 2:31Speaker 2: begin to imagine. We cannot even comprehend his creation. But
- 2:38Speaker 2: the scripture says in Romans six point twenty three, for
- 2:41Speaker 2: the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
- 2:45Speaker 2: God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. This
- 2:52Speaker 2: passage of scripture has been used many times in pointing
- 2:58Speaker 2: out the condition of man before he comes to the
- 3:04Speaker 2: realization of his sin, and it is a following in
- 3:11Speaker 2: what has been referred to as the Roman road, where
- 3:17Speaker 2: we have discussed that there is a payment for sin.
- 3:23Speaker 2: There's an earlier passage that we find in Roman's three.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And also as we look in verse twenty three, it says,
- 3:35Speaker 2: for all have sinned and falls short of the glory
- 3:39Speaker 2: of God. So everyone has sinned, and then the wages
- 3:46Speaker 2: of sin is death. But then the marvelous appropriation is
- 3:52Speaker 2: the gift of God, which is eternal life in Christ Jesus,
- 3:59Speaker 2: our Lord. It is in Christ Jesus that there is
- 4:05Speaker 2: eternal life. And yet we need to look at this
- 4:10Speaker 2: passage as it unfolds, going back into the portion in
- 4:18Speaker 2: Romans chapter six, beginning with the twelfth verse. Therefore, do
- 4:27Speaker 2: not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that
- 4:32Speaker 2: you obey its desires, and do not offer any parts
- 4:37Speaker 2: of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as
- 4:42Speaker 2: those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God,
- 4:48Speaker 2: and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons
- 4:52Speaker 2: for righteousness. For sin will not rule over you, because
- 4:58Speaker 2: you are not under law but under grace. What then,
- 5:04Speaker 2: should we sin, because we are not under law but
- 5:08Speaker 2: under grace? Absolutely not. Do you not know that if
- 5:14Speaker 2: you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are
- 5:20Speaker 2: slaves of that one you obey, either of sin leading
- 5:25Speaker 2: to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness. But thank
- 5:30Speaker 2: God that although you used to be slaves of sin,
- 5:34Speaker 2: you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you
- 5:39Speaker 2: were entrusted to, and having been liberated from sin, you
- 5:44Speaker 2: became enslaves to righteousness. I am using a human analogy
- 5:52Speaker 2: because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as
- 5:56Speaker 2: you offered the parts of yourselves as slaves to moral
- 5:59Speaker 2: in purity and to greater and greater lawlessness, so now
- 6:05Speaker 2: offered them as slaves to righteousness. Which results in sanctification.
- 6:11Speaker 2: For when you were slaves of sin, you were free
- 6:15Speaker 2: from allegiance to righteousness. And what fruit was produced then
- 6:20Speaker 2: from the things you are now ashamed of, For the
- 6:25Speaker 2: end of those things is dead. But now since you
- 6:29Speaker 2: have been liberated from sin and become enslaved to God,
- 6:35Speaker 2: you have your fruit, which results in sanctification. And the
- 6:41Speaker 2: end is eternal life.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And that is Romans six and then chapter following twelve frud.
- 6:56Speaker 3: As we look the end coming to Roman sixty twenty three,
- 7:03Speaker 3: it is important for us to understand this particular scripture.
- 7:11Speaker 3: It is referring to how we recognize we are crucified
- 7:17Speaker 3: with Christ. How are we being transformed? Remember we read
- 7:24Speaker 3: earlier that we are actually in Christ Jesus, if we
- 7:32Speaker 3: have received him as Lord. You see, believer, there are
- 7:38Speaker 3: people who believe Jesus is the Savior. They believe he's
- 7:45Speaker 3: the Messiah, but they haven't turned over the lordship of
- 7:51Speaker 3: their life. They are still living according to their old
- 7:56Speaker 3: nature and its desires. As a matter of fact, as
- 8:00Speaker 3: we just read, they were enslave to sin. But because
- 8:07Speaker 3: they are in Christ Jesus, those who have the spirit
- 8:13Speaker 3: of Christ in them, those believers are now free from
- 8:21Speaker 3: the law of sin and death. They are able to
- 8:28Speaker 3: completely be surrendered, and as this passage refers to us
- 8:35Speaker 3: no longer as slaves to sin, but slaves to righteousness.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Notice that the term is used similarly to describe our position.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Once we were enslaved to sin, the bondage of sin
- 8:57Speaker 3: kept us captive to the old nature, and that would
- 9:02Speaker 3: lead to our spiritual death. We would then be eternally
- 9:09Speaker 3: separated from God. As we read in Romans six twenty three,
- 9:16Speaker 3: the wages or the payment that we will receive for
- 9:21Speaker 3: the sin that we are able to identify that is death.
- 9:29Speaker 3: But the gift of God is eternal life. In Christ Jesus,
- 9:36Speaker 3: our Lord, it is in Christ Jesus that we are
- 9:43Speaker 3: eternally saved. But here's an interesting thought in this passage
- 9:51Speaker 3: that we read. We were once enslaved to sin, and
- 9:55Speaker 3: now we are enslaved to righteousness. What does that mean
- 10:00Speaker 3: when we think about our rights? Does a slave have rights?
- 10:06Speaker 3: Think about that for just a moment. Does a slave
- 10:11Speaker 3: have rights or does the slave live according to the
- 10:17Speaker 3: command and direction of his master. The answer is obvious,
- 10:23Speaker 3: a slave has no rights. And it's an interesting thing
- 10:29Speaker 3: that there is both of those applications for the same individual.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Once we were enslaved to sin, and that brought about death.
- 10:43Speaker 3: But now in Jesus' Christ, our Lord, we are set
- 10:50Speaker 3: free from the law of sin and death. We are
- 10:55Speaker 3: given eternal life because we are now enslaved to him.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Do you recognize that there is a difference. If we
- 11:10Speaker 3: are truly.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Enslaved to the Lord Jesus, we are his bond servant, purchased,
- 11:19Speaker 2: if you will, by his precious blood. We do not
- 11:23Speaker 2: belong to ourselves. We belong to him. We don't have
- 11:28Speaker 2: any rights, We have no means of being able to
- 11:34Speaker 2: claim anything that this world offers. Does God provide it?
- 11:41Speaker 3: Yes?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Will he give us everything we need? Certainly, But it
- 11:47Speaker 2: is not according to our plan. It is according to
- 11:52Speaker 2: his plan. Will he reveal his plan to us? Certainly?
- 11:59Speaker 2: He will reveal it to us in the same manner
- 12:03Speaker 2: that we surrender our will to him. We must submit
- 12:09Speaker 2: ourselves to him. We must constantly be made knowledgeable that
- 12:17Speaker 2: we do not belong to ourself. We no longer serve ourself,
- 12:23Speaker 2: We no longer look for those things that please us.
- 12:29Speaker 2: We only live to serve the Living God. We are
- 12:36Speaker 2: slaves to him. Now here is a very interesting comparison.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Because we are in Christ Jesus, we have inherited eternal life.
- 12:53Speaker 2: We read earlier in a segment that we are already
- 12:57Speaker 2: seated with him in heavenly place. Is we have the
- 13:01Speaker 2: richness of all of His glory living right now through us,
- 13:09Speaker 2: so that others can be able to glorify him. We
- 13:15Speaker 2: live now not as those who have free will. We
- 13:21Speaker 2: live as slaves to the one who gives us eternal
- 13:27Speaker 2: freedom in life abundant with him.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 13:35Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 14:08Speaker 1: K include Great Is Thy faithfulness by our daily bread
- 14:13Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again here is Richard
- 14:17Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Believer, don't be led astray. Don't think that you can
- 14:29Speaker 2: have accomplishment in this world and fullness of God in
- 14:35Speaker 2: our life. Now we must die so that He will live.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But we are not dying in the manner that we
- 14:50Speaker 2: hear dead. We no longer fear dead. Why Because Jesus
- 14:56Speaker 2: conquered death when he was raised from the dead, death
- 15:00Speaker 2: no longer had dominion over him, and if we are
- 15:04Speaker 2: in him, death no longer has dominion over us. But
- 15:11Speaker 2: we are his slaves. And because we are able to submit,
- 15:17Speaker 2: surrender our lives totally to him, we then are called
- 15:24Speaker 2: sons and daughters of God. It's amazing that we go
- 15:31Speaker 2: from being slaves or bond servants to the inheritors of
- 15:37Speaker 2: sonship all because of him. It is not anything we do,
- 15:45Speaker 2: it is not anything we deserve. He provides everything that
- 15:52Speaker 2: is eternally glorifying to the Father, and that today is
- 15:58Speaker 2: what we see as we desire to be full of him.
- 16:07Speaker 2: That is today's reflection on the work.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 16:15Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Work with
