- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonnya
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. OK, wow, we got
- 0:14Speaker 1: plenty to catch up on over the last weekend or so.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So many things happening here in Singapore. Queuing, hawker center drama,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a wedding. You got this all here on your Monday morning.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So, last week, I think in the world of scams,
- 0:35Speaker 1: the biggest piece of news that we shared with you
- 0:37Speaker 1: is unfortunately for maybe a business owner or something like that.
- 0:41Speaker 1: He got scammed out of almost $5 million somewhere around
- 0:44Speaker 1: the high 4.something range because he thought he was actually
- 0:49Speaker 1: helping Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his cabinet for the
- 0:53Speaker 1: opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a real-life
- 0:57Speaker 1: world event that's currently happening right now. It's a bit
- 1:00Speaker 1: of an interesting situation. I will not get too much
- 1:02Speaker 1: into it in terms of whatever's happening in real life.
- 1:05Speaker 1: In terms of this scam, it is very scary because
- 1:08Speaker 1: scammers are now using AI and to the untrained eye,
- 1:13Speaker 1: you might actually fall prey to actually thinking you are
- 1:16Speaker 1: speaking to a minister here in Singapore or maybe even
- 1:20Speaker 1: our prime minister himself. I'm gonna play you a six-second clip,
- 1:24Speaker 1: and in this clip, you will be hearing what is
- 1:28Speaker 1: supposed to be.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Minister Indranee Raja's voice as well as Prime Minister Lawrence
- 1:34Speaker 1: Wong's voice. Have a listen. Yeah. Excellencies, distinguished participants, ladies
- 1:40Speaker 1: and gentlemen, there you go. So those, those voices you
- 1:44Speaker 1: heard aren't the actual voices of Minister.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Indrani and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong themselves, but what the
- 1:51Speaker 1: scammers have done is they are able to use AI
- 1:54Speaker 1: technology and maybe upload a few seconds of Minister Indrani
- 1:57Speaker 1: Raja and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, giving a real-life speech,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and then AI replicated the voice and applied it onto.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Perhaps two scammers with the face filter of Minister Indranee
- 2:10Speaker 1: Raja and PM Lawrence Wong as well. So it's very scary,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and the SPF themselves have listed some things you can
- 2:16Speaker 1: look out, look out for in case you think you're
- 2:19Speaker 1: joining a Zoom call with the ministers or someone important
- 2:23Speaker 1: from a business organization and whatsoever. So please people.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Anyone can fall prey to scams, even you, by simply
- 2:31Speaker 1: clicking a link or going to a website that you
- 2:35Speaker 1: think is real but isn't. So please be extra vigilant
- 2:39Speaker 1: online to you, your parents, and even your grandparents as well. Well,
- 2:42Speaker 1: if you have waited assessments this week, sending you all
- 2:46Speaker 1: the love.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Let's hear from you in just a while when we
- 2:48Speaker 1: open the phone lines over at 669-11-987. However, if you
- 2:53Speaker 1: need something to maybe distract your mind for a while,
- 2:58Speaker 1: take a break for a bit. Hey, I'm looking forward
- 3:00Speaker 1: to something that's gonna be released in cinemas this week.
- 3:03Speaker 1: If you find this familiar,
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah. If you're going, hey, isn't that that Disney Plus
- 3:13Speaker 1: Star Wars show? Uh, uh, uh, Mandalorian? Yes, you are
- 3:17Speaker 1: absolutely right. So there will be Star Wars, The Mandalorian
- 3:20Speaker 1: and Grogu out in cinemas. Now, again, I can share
- 3:25Speaker 1: with you that I've seen half an hour of the movie,
- 3:28Speaker 1: an exclusive screening with all the media outlets here in Singapore,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and what I feel about it is to me,
- 3:35Speaker 1: It, it feels like a glorified episode made for the
- 3:39Speaker 1: silver screens. Will I still watch it? Yes, because I'm
- 3:42Speaker 1: a huge Star Wars fan and knowing how director Jon
- 3:45Speaker 1: Favreau is in charge of it, the very same guy
- 3:47Speaker 1: that directs the Mandalorian TV episodes on Disney Plus series, yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 1: it's gonna be treated with a lot of care and
- 3:54Speaker 1: love and with respect for Star Wars fans and with
- 3:57Speaker 1: Ludwig Gordansson doing the music. Yeah, you are definitely in
- 4:01Speaker 1: for a cinematic experience. So if you can, go watch it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I believe it's out in cinemas May 21st. When we
- 4:08Speaker 1: come back though, let's hear from you. 669-119-87. And I
- 4:13Speaker 1: always love this part of the show because the phone
- 4:15Speaker 1: lines are open at 669-119-87. And in case you're new
- 4:20Speaker 1: to this, earlier in the year, Sonia and I, we
- 4:23Speaker 1: started a mission to get all 400+ schools to call
- 4:26Speaker 1: us on the shock circuit. Very happy to say that
- 4:29Speaker 1: for almost every caller we get on this segment,
- 4:33Speaker 1: It's shouting out a new school here on the shock circuit.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So please do so. You can practice your conversational skills.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Tell us what is your favorite part about the school.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Could be the canteen, could be the field, could be
- 4:45Speaker 1: the track, it could be your classroom table, anything. Let
- 4:48Speaker 1: us know and we'll get you your favorite song to play,
- 4:51Speaker 1: which you can dedicate to your school.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Schoolmates or maybe even your teachers. Now, it isn't exclusively
- 4:57Speaker 1: for students only. If you're a teacher, HOD discipline master,
- 5:01Speaker 1: vice principal, principal, and if you want to shout out
- 5:04Speaker 1: your school as well, the phone lines are available at
- 5:06Speaker 1: your service, 669-119-87987, good morning. What's your name?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Hello, I'm Ethan. Hello, Ethan.
- 5:16Speaker 1: So which school are you going to right now?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Ma
- 5:20Speaker 1: Maha Bodhi, and what level are you in this year?
- 5:23Speaker 2: P22.
- 5:25Speaker 1: OK. How is life like in P2? Do you have
- 5:28Speaker 1: any exams coming up for you?
- 5:31Speaker 2: No.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Well done, but are you enjoying school so far?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Not really.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Why not? Tell me.
- 5:39Speaker 2: My teachers are
- 5:40Speaker 2: very annoying.
- 5:45Speaker 2: OK,
- 5:45Speaker 1: you know what? I'm sure they love you all the same.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They want you to do your best in school. Can
- 5:50Speaker 1: I ask Ethan, in primary 2, are you still writing
- 5:53Speaker 1: with pencil or have you switched to pen already?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Pencil. Pencil, OK, because I remember my time in primary school.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It was in primary 3 where we switched to pencil.
- 6:03Speaker 1: All the best to you. Ethan, thank you for sharing
- 6:05Speaker 1: about this. What song can I get you here on 987?
- 6:09Speaker 2: Uh, Believer.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Believer
- 6:12Speaker 1: by Imagine Dragons. All right, I'll play that for you.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I finally listened to the whole BTS album, the Ari
- 6:19Speaker 1: Rang album, and to all the producers who were in
- 6:25Speaker 1: charge of producing music for BTS for this album, take
- 6:28Speaker 1: a bow, really.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Every song produced differently, I really enjoy, and this is
- 6:38Speaker 1: where I say, yes, BTS of course get all the credit.
- 6:41Speaker 1: They are celebrated all over the world, but the producers
- 6:44Speaker 1: on the album need to be celebrated as well. Hopefully,
- 6:47Speaker 1: they see more collaborations, paid collaborations with other musicians. That said, um,
- 6:52Speaker 1: something that needs to stop happening when it comes to
- 6:55Speaker 1: us Singaporeans in Malaysia.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Again, guys, we, we got to stop using the RO
- 7:01Speaker 1: 95 petrol. I mean, you smell, you can smell it
- 7:05Speaker 1: coming a mile away. It's a similar situation, the same
- 7:07Speaker 1: thing to the point where now, and it's always one
- 7:12Speaker 1: of two car brands. It's either the one with three
- 7:15Speaker 1: letters or the one that starts with M, not a Mazda.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Go and think about it. So apparently over at
- 7:22Speaker 1: A town 60 kilometers west of Ipo Pera at a
- 7:26Speaker 1: BHP patrol station.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Petrol station rather, a Singaporean registered car was seen pumping
- 7:33Speaker 1: RO 95 and of course, for our friends in Malaysia,
- 7:36Speaker 1: whenever they see a Singaporean car doing that, aha, time
- 7:39Speaker 1: to take a picture or a video and put it
- 7:41Speaker 1: up on social media so that it gets shamed big time. So, yes,
- 7:46Speaker 1: there you go, another one getting shamed online. And in
- 7:49Speaker 1: case you did not know, Ron 95 is the government-subsidized
- 7:54Speaker 1: fuel for Malaysian.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And Malaysian registered cars. So please get that into our
- 8:02Speaker 1: heads and stop throwing our face across the causeway. And OK,
- 8:05Speaker 1: let's address the elephant in the room. Sonia's wedding on Saturday.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Ay ay ay ay ay. Look, I, I wasn't gonna
- 8:14Speaker 1: really go in-depth about how I was feeling and stuff
- 8:17Speaker 1: like that. I really wanted to focus on Sonia, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: then somebody on Sunday morning told me, hey, Joakim, your
- 8:23Speaker 1: face is on mothership.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And I went, oh no, what did they do and
- 8:29Speaker 1: what picture did they use? And I realized these people
- 8:32Speaker 1: over at Mothership want to make clickbait, right? Don't think
- 8:35Speaker 1: I don't know. They, they took the most sad face
- 8:39Speaker 1: I had. I was crying lah, to be honest with you,
- 8:41Speaker 1: at the church wedding, and then the line was what?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Gomez was visibly emotional. Of course I'm emotional lah. My
- 8:48Speaker 1: good friend getting married, hello.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But, but, OK, let, let, let me get, uh, in
- 8:53Speaker 1: all seriousness, I'm not explaining myself and, and this is fact.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I I've said this the past two or three weeks
- 8:59Speaker 1: and even with Sonia as well that I would definitely
- 9:01Speaker 1: cry at the wedding.
- 9:03Speaker 1: More of because I know what her dad has gone
- 9:07Speaker 1: through the last 2 or 3 years of Sonia's life
- 9:11Speaker 1: and his life. I mean, I would always get firsthand
- 9:14Speaker 1: direct updates from Sonia during the show when we're playing
- 9:17Speaker 1: music and just catching up on life and sometimes she
- 9:19Speaker 1: would text me as well about her dad. So seeing
- 9:23Speaker 1: her dad, who, you know, is a very proud man, I, I,
- 9:27Speaker 1: I love Papache a lot.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Seeing him walk Sonia down the aisle and with Sonia's
- 9:32Speaker 1: mom on her left-hand side as well. It was nice
- 9:34Speaker 1: to see, it was a sight, and I think the
- 9:36Speaker 1: moment Sonia saw me crying and she saw my face,
- 9:39Speaker 1: she was a burst out crying.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So that was the church wedding. I think the church
- 9:44Speaker 1: reception was a lot of people from work and all
- 9:48Speaker 1: walks of life, and there was a very good makan session,
- 9:51Speaker 1: by the way, who the me was very good, and
- 9:53Speaker 1: there was ui pai ti. Loved it. And for the
- 9:56Speaker 1: wedding dinner, oh, this was where it got a little
- 9:59Speaker 1: bit more intimate, but I dare say more rowdy as well.
- 10:02Speaker 1: It was really an exclusive, very close friends, very close family,
- 10:07Speaker 1: packed out of this very nice restaurant over at Addition
- 10:10Speaker 1: Hotel called Fish.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Um, they walked into Kendrick Lamar's humble. Who does that?
- 10:17Speaker 1: Only Sonia and Jeremy, and Jeremy also shared that the
- 10:20Speaker 1: wine for that night was all curated by him because
- 10:24Speaker 1: Jeremy knows his wine very well. I don't know whether
- 10:26Speaker 1: he attended a Skills Future course, but yeah, um.
- 10:30Speaker 1: It was a great celebration. Sonia and Jeremy looked very
- 10:34Speaker 1: happy and maybe tonight you might hear Avery share with
- 10:37Speaker 1: you how as the MC I made him in charge
- 10:41Speaker 1: of making sure that everyone takes a shot or drinks. Yes, again,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I don't encourage binge drinking, but it's a happy occasion.
- 10:48Speaker 1: We celebrate with some wine, whiskey, and whatever is on
- 10:51Speaker 1: my table. So I gave Avery a bell.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Whenever he rings the bell, everybody around him and everybody
- 10:57Speaker 1: in the room must drink, and thankfully, everybody played along.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I think we're all there to have fun and celebrate
- 11:02Speaker 1: love in this very interesting climate here in the world.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So that's all I will give you. I mean, we
- 11:09Speaker 1: all cried again and Papa Che was on the mic
- 11:11Speaker 1: giving a speech and Mama Che was very hilarious with
- 11:14Speaker 1: her speech as well. I can see where Sonia gets
- 11:16Speaker 1: her humor from.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And if you really want some visual updates, I think
- 11:20Speaker 1: on 987, I made a very nice video for Sonia,
- 11:25Speaker 1: say very nice, uh, on TikTok and on Instagram. So
- 11:28Speaker 1: please go have a look. And again, I, I'm no
- 11:30Speaker 1: political expert, no surprises here. I mean, I, I don't
- 11:34Speaker 1: know what President Trump and President Xi, along with the
- 11:38Speaker 1: whole business moguls of the US flying to Beijing, China
- 11:43Speaker 1: for a
- 11:43Speaker 1: Meet up for a conference and all that. I hope
- 11:46Speaker 1: some good things were discussed. But when I saw this
- 11:49Speaker 1: one on some of our news outlets, I actually realized
- 11:53Speaker 1: it is not the first time a joke or something
- 11:56Speaker 1: like this has been said when it comes to the
- 11:59Speaker 1: kind of things that China might have given their counterparts, OK? Again,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I'm just quoting the news. I remember when
- 12:10Speaker 1: President Xi actually met South Korean President Lee Jae- Myeong,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and President Xi gifted President Lee a Xiaomi phone to
- 12:20Speaker 1: which President Lee joked, Is it secure? And then President
- 12:25Speaker 1: Xi said he can check for any backdoors or whatsoever.
- 12:28Speaker 1: So of course the the running joke is, oh, maybe
- 12:30Speaker 1: the phone is bugged because Xiaomi is from China. We're
- 12:33Speaker 1: being spied on.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That's exactly what President Trump's entire US board did in Beijing, China.
- 12:43Speaker 1: So apparently, they did not use their own phones from America. No,
- 12:47Speaker 1: they kept it on the plane, and this is a
- 12:49Speaker 1: source from a Fox News journalist saying that, yeah, their
- 12:52Speaker 1: phones were kept on the plane, they were turned off.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Nobody used their phones in America. They used burner phones
- 12:58Speaker 1: while in China and whatever the Chinese gave the
- 13:02Speaker 1: Americans, it was all destroyed before they flew back to
- 13:05Speaker 1: America because they don't want to risk getting spied on
- 13:09Speaker 1: or they don't want to have the risk of a
- 13:11Speaker 1: bugged phone being on board, you know, Air Force One
- 13:15Speaker 1: or maybe even in the White House. Yeah, such things
- 13:17Speaker 1: you only see in spy movies, but hey, for them
- 13:20Speaker 1: to do these kind of things, maybe it happens more
- 13:23Speaker 1: in real life than we think. And I feel as
- 13:26Speaker 1: if over the past weekend here in Singapore, so much
- 13:29Speaker 1: has happened.
- 13:30Speaker 1: But I think what really took the spotlight.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Were the queues for that non-limited edition watch, and I'm
- 13:39Speaker 1: gonna boldly say this, if you're looking for all your
- 13:41Speaker 1: concert tickets, scalpers, the people who use bots to book
- 13:45Speaker 1: all those driving classes for you, all that, they were
- 13:48Speaker 1: all queuing. I kid you not, they were all queuing. Uh,
- 13:52Speaker 1: chaos ensued over the weekend here in Singapore, and not
- 13:55Speaker 1: just in Singapore, and I think judging for whatever happened
- 13:59Speaker 1: around the world, in Singapore, it was very mild. Let's
- 14:03Speaker 1: touch on this in just a minute.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Bit and I'm gonna open the phone lines over at
- 14:06Speaker 1: 669-119-87 to discuss with you about a Singaporean pastime, queuing.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And OK, over the weekend, loads has happened here in
- 14:15Speaker 1: Singapore and all over the world involving this one particular
- 14:19Speaker 1: watch collaboration between Swatch and a brand name I shudder
- 14:24Speaker 1: to say on air. So, I'm gonna have some help.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I actually went to YouTube and I typed in how
- 14:30Speaker 1: to pronounce this watch brand. So let's have a listen together. O.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Odemar P. The S at the end of Oudommar is
- 14:37Speaker 1: definitely silent, and so is the T at the end
- 14:40Speaker 1: of P. Oduma P. Am I saying it right? Yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 1: so it's a non-limited edition.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Pocket watch. It, it, it seems like it, and I
- 14:53Speaker 1: think the draw of it is, wow, I get to
- 14:55Speaker 1: own an AP watch, an Odama PK watch. I'm gonna
- 14:58Speaker 1: go and queue for it, or maybe even some people thought,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna go queue and flip it and sell it
- 15:05Speaker 1: for an exorbitant price online, maybe on Carousel too.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Which is all available for you already on the Singaporean space. So,
- 15:12Speaker 1: that's why I'm inclined to think all your scalpers, your
- 15:15Speaker 1: concert ticket scalpers, they were the ones queuing in line
- 15:20Speaker 1: to hopefully make a profit when they sell it to
- 15:22Speaker 1: you online. So, some stores decided to not open it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: On the day itself, out of safety measures, leading to
- 15:30Speaker 1: loads of very angry people, but are these people angry
- 15:34Speaker 1: for the right reason? Are they angry because they really,
- 15:37Speaker 1: really want to own this collaboration, or are they angry because, huh,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I queued for so long, I cannot buy to sell online? Why?
- 15:45Speaker 1: How can this be allowed? So the comments section is
- 15:47Speaker 1: a bit of an interesting place to be. And I
- 15:50Speaker 1: look at Singapore's situation.
- 15:53Speaker 1: To which, if you compare it with what happened in London, JB,
- 15:58Speaker 1: some parts of the US, hey, we already did a
- 16:01Speaker 1: good job, you know.
- 16:03Speaker 1: and the bar isn't very high because in London, apparently
- 16:06Speaker 1: pepper sprays were used, some, uh, smoke, tear gas were
- 16:10Speaker 1: used as well to disperse the crowd. In, uh, the US,
- 16:13Speaker 1: people were running towards the store, pushing each other. In
- 16:16Speaker 1: JB as well, the queues are being cut. It's very
- 16:20Speaker 1: interesting what people will do for a limited edition drop.
- 16:22Speaker 1: This is giving shades of Hello Kitty and maybe even
- 16:26Speaker 1: a long time ago, the Yeezy shoes when it was
- 16:28Speaker 1: all the rage, to which, if I'm not wrong,
- 16:32Speaker 1: The Yeezy shoe system, they moved to a ballot system.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Maybe this is something our friends over at Swatch and
- 16:37Speaker 1: AP can explore, doing a ballot system more than people
- 16:41Speaker 1: actually queue for it, leading to chaos all over the world.
- 16:44Speaker 1: But to draw it back to Singapore, 669-119-87, the phone
- 16:50Speaker 1: lines are open, or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's the age-old thing we love doing here in Singapore, queuing.
- 17:00Speaker 1: What's the longest you've queued for something? Yeah, it could,
- 17:03Speaker 1: it could be anything. It could be a collab drop,
- 17:06Speaker 1: concert tickets to get in a concert venue, anything. Let
- 17:09Speaker 1: us know and if we do like your answer, what's
- 17:11Speaker 1: coming your way, a very nice dining experience to Italian
- 17:16Speaker 1: restaurant Luce. Yes, I'll give you more details about them
- 17:18Speaker 1: in just a while, but let me get the ball rolling, OK?
- 17:21Speaker 1: 20 years ago now, 11th of February, a day after
- 17:26Speaker 1: collecting my O-level results, 4 a.m. in the morning, I
- 17:31Speaker 1: packed two double cheeseburgers and my mom made me a
- 17:34Speaker 1: nice canister of tea.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Guess which 18-year-old queued almost 16 hours at 4 a.m.
- 17:40Speaker 1: in the morning to audition for Singapore Idol?
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yours truly
- 17:46Speaker 1: I guess uh the 16 hours of queuing really paid off, huh,
- 17:49Speaker 1: a 20-year career so far inspired by the Watch collaboration
- 17:53Speaker 1: between Swatch and Oduma P. Oduma P, by the way.
- 17:59Speaker 1: It's not a French brand. It's actually a Swiss brand. So, OK, I,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I don't wanna talk bad about Swatch, but if you
- 18:07Speaker 1: think about it, it's a more affordable watch brand going
- 18:12Speaker 1: with a watch brand that's very extravagant. So I guess
- 18:15Speaker 1: the draw is, hey, you know, I'm owning an AP watch.
- 18:18Speaker 1: It's a collab with Swatch, but still, uh.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It's uh something quite exclusive, but then you realize it's
- 18:23Speaker 1: non-limited edition. There's even a video of a security guard
- 18:27Speaker 1: telling the crowd, was it over at Marina Bay Sands
- 18:30Speaker 1: or Vivo City, that ladies and gentlemen, please do not queue.
- 18:34Speaker 1: This watch is non-limited edition.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Poor guy, lah, poor uncle. So yes, based on all
- 18:42Speaker 1: the chaos that it's caused here in Singapore and worldwide,
- 18:45Speaker 1: what's the longest you've ever queued for something? Wanna say
- 18:48Speaker 1: hello to Zal. Zal says,
- 18:52Speaker 1: Fair price on a weekend, are you?
- 18:55Speaker 1: Actually, I realized the self-checkouts now over at Junction 8's FairPrice.
- 18:59Speaker 1: The queues there are longer than the ones with the
- 19:02Speaker 1: actual cashers helping you, so take your pick. Wanna say
- 19:05Speaker 1: good morning to Rosali. Morning, Joakim. The longest I've ever
- 19:08Speaker 1: queued online for concert tickets. 2.5.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Hours for My Chemical Romance in London and July 2026.
- 19:16Speaker 1: 3 hours for Sam Smith's Royal Albert Hall Performance in
- 19:20Speaker 1: August 2024, and today, I'm getting ready to queue for
- 19:24Speaker 1: the weekend's concert tickets. Yes, all the best. Some pre-sales
- 19:28Speaker 1: are going today.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Wanna say also hello to Fel.hel, you say, recently, I
- 19:35Speaker 1: queued for 3 hours to get into Sabrina Carpenter's pit
- 19:38Speaker 1: stop at Indio, upside, free of charge, tow bag and
- 19:42Speaker 1: a car refresher. And I think this was recently over
- 19:44Speaker 1: at the Coachella area for.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Rena Carpenter said. Keep the calls and texts coming in
- 19:49Speaker 1: over at 669-119-87. On the topic of queuing in Singapore,
- 19:55Speaker 1: what's the longest you've queued for something inspired by the
- 19:58Speaker 1: and swatch collaboration again.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I'm quite scared to butcher brand names. I, I strongly
- 20:07Speaker 1: believe if I can't pronounce the brand name, I shouldn't
- 20:09Speaker 1: be wearing it. So yes, that's why on my wrist,
- 20:11Speaker 1: most of the time, it's the Apple Watch. Easy to say,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and it does everything I need it to do. Going
- 20:17Speaker 1: back to WhatsApp at 90050987, saying hello to Ali. Eli,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you share that morning Joe Kim. Hope you're not missing
- 20:26Speaker 1: Sonia too much. The longest I've queued for something will
- 20:29Speaker 1: be 4 hours for Longqing.
- 20:32Speaker 1: At Suntech, hopefully I'm saying that right, just earlier this
- 20:35Speaker 1: month on Mother's Day, the funny thing was I didn't
- 20:38Speaker 1: even eat it in the end because at the 3
- 20:41Speaker 1: hour mark, I went to go get a queue number
- 20:43Speaker 1: for Tier concurrently because we were all so hungry and
- 20:47Speaker 1: Tye called us up before Long Ching did. So we
- 20:50Speaker 1: went into Tier, the 4 hour mark, and then Long
- 20:53Speaker 1: Ching called us right when we were seated.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I really hope the food was good at Tire than
- 20:58Speaker 1: for you. Wanna say hello to Adrian. Adrian says, Hey, Joakim, pre-SARS,
- 21:05Speaker 1: not even COVID, pre-SARS, I queued for my BTO flat
- 21:09Speaker 1: for 3 nights. This was before the balloting system. Then
- 21:14Speaker 1: he says, yup, so we to night. There you go.
- 21:16Speaker 1: One coming in from Joe. Hello, Joe.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Hey, Joakim, the longest queue that I ever did was
- 21:23Speaker 1: not in Singapore but in Brussels. I arrived right
- 21:27Speaker 1: I arrived at the hotel before 20 and immediately went
- 21:30Speaker 1: to a popular sandwich shop to join the long queue.
- 21:32Speaker 1: We queued from lunch to dinner time after 3.5 hours,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and then it's our turn. It's a little sandwich shop
- 21:39Speaker 1: with one-man show. The owner was so customer-oriented, chatted with
- 21:43Speaker 1: each customer to know their taste and preference, and let
- 21:46Speaker 1: each customer sample all his cheeses and customize the sandwich
- 21:49Speaker 1: just for the customer. And he said if it's no good,
- 21:52Speaker 1: there won't be a charge. This reminds me of my
- 21:55Speaker 1: trip to Berlin back in the year 2022.
- 21:57Speaker 1: To Mustafa's Gurmousse kebab. You have to try it. It's
- 22:02Speaker 1: very near the old airport, Temple Hoff, and I hear
- 22:05Speaker 1: that now it's no longer just a stand, it's now
- 22:07Speaker 1: a full-on store. So congrats to Mustafa Gammoose Kebab. It
- 22:11Speaker 1: it's easily one of the best kebabs I've ever had
- 22:13Speaker 1: in my life. I waited close to 1.5 hours in
- 22:17Speaker 1: the queue and I made sure I bought 3. So
- 22:19Speaker 1: that was my lunch and dinner settled for the entire day.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Going to the phone lines, it's 669-119-87.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Edwin, what's your story, buddy?
- 22:29Speaker 2: Uh, the longest I ever queued for something was 33
- 22:31Speaker 2: years ago, I queued, uh, 22 hours, uh, to buy
- 22:35Speaker 2: a condo.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Oh,
- 22:37Speaker 1: so this is before like a balloting system.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yes, yes, but the, the, the thing is, it's not
- 22:42Speaker 2: for myself. I was one of those people who helped
- 22:45Speaker 2: queue for queue for other people who want to buy
- 22:48Speaker 2: a condo.
- 22:49Speaker 2: That's why I got paid for it.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So you were offering that service 33 years ago, so
- 22:53Speaker 1: it's not a new thing here in Singapore. Wow. How
- 22:55Speaker 1: much were you paid, my friend?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Uh, no, it wasn't offer. Uh, it was a classmate
- 23:01Speaker 2: who knew an agent or something, so he got gathered
- 23:03Speaker 2: a bunch of us to help joke, uh, priority queue numbers, yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 2: So we got paid, uh, for 11 day, one day
- 23:11Speaker 2: of queuing, we got about $150 which was quite a
- 23:13Speaker 2: big deal that back then I was 17 years old.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Wow,
- 23:17Speaker 1: 22 hours. How do you pass the time, man?
- 23:20Speaker 2: Uh, play cards, play board games. I don't have, don't
- 23:24Speaker 2: have all these Nintendo Switch or handphone games, so it's
- 23:26Speaker 2: just play, play cards most of the way.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Still getting all your stories about the longest you've ever
- 23:31Speaker 1: queued for, could be here in Singapore or overseas. Want
- 23:35Speaker 1: to say hello to Wendy. Wendy says, morning, Joakim. The
- 23:38Speaker 1: longest I've
- 23:39Speaker 1: Ever queued is changing Chinese New Year notes every year.
- 23:43Speaker 1: No priority queue and the queue is at least 2
- 23:45Speaker 1: to 3 hours with limited notes exchanged. Well, there you go.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Everybody wants something new for Chinese New Year, right? And also,
- 23:54Speaker 1: one coming in, I wanna say hello, your name is
- 23:57Speaker 1: Wei Lan. Hello, Wei Lan.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Morning Joakim. My whole family of 4 took a queue
- 24:02Speaker 1: ticket at Chengtu, Feng Xiao Chang Mala hotpot and waited
- 24:06Speaker 1: almost 3 hours. My daughter even went to dye her
- 24:09Speaker 1: hair at a nearby salon.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And I'm very sure that Mala hits different in, in
- 24:15Speaker 1: China itself. One more coming in from Jerome. Jerome says, hey, Joakim,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I queued nine hours overnight for a Hello Kitty launch
- 24:23Speaker 1: at McDonald's. By the time I got it, I realized
- 24:26Speaker 1: I don't even like Hello Kitty that much. OK, this
- 24:28Speaker 1: maybe could have been in the late 90s. I remember
- 24:31Speaker 1: where they launched the couple Hello Kitty.
- 24:34Speaker 1: and all the McDonald's were packed. I just wanted my
- 24:37Speaker 1: simple cheeseburger. Couldn't get because the queues are very long.
- 24:39Speaker 1: That's it. What's the longest you've ever queued for something?
- 24:42Speaker 1: If you just joined us, of course, this weekend, the
- 24:44Speaker 1: past weekend rather, we were all talking about the swatch
- 24:50Speaker 1: and Oma collaboration Oduma Pig. Yes, I can't do it
- 24:54Speaker 1: without the inflection. It's a non-limited edition and it looks
- 24:57Speaker 1: like a pocket watch, you know.
- 24:59Speaker 1: But yeah, scalpers be scalping. So going to WhatsApp and
- 25:03Speaker 1: saying hello to, let's see your name, Ari. Ari, you
- 25:07Speaker 1: say morning Joe. My longest waiting my longest time spent
- 25:11Speaker 1: queuing was waiting to marry my lovely wife. It took
- 25:15Speaker 1: me 30 years.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Aiyo, so cute lah. Thank you very much. One more
- 25:21Speaker 1: coming in from CK. Hello Solo Joe. The longest queue,
- 25:25Speaker 1: I'm the type who hates queuing, but around 10 years back,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I dragged my wife to Tokyo Disneyland, and we queued
- 25:32Speaker 1: almost 1 to 1.5 hours for every ride. The best
- 25:36Speaker 1: part for me was queuing to take a photo with
- 25:38Speaker 1: Mickey Mouse. That was really my childhood. Really loved my
- 25:41Speaker 1: wife for doing that with me to relive my childhood.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And one coming in from Tristan.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Morning, Joakim. Wait here. The longest I queued was 7
- 25:51Speaker 1: hours for bakwa for Chinese New Year in Johor, about
- 25:55Speaker 1: 7 hours. What in the Linqi Guan is this? Got
- 25:59Speaker 1: auntie still there cut queue. Wow, Tristan, hopefully you weren't
- 26:02Speaker 1: too hotheaded with that auntie. Go to the phone lines
- 26:04Speaker 1: over at 669-119-87. Grace, what's your story?
- 26:09Speaker 2: Um, 40,
- 26:10Speaker 2: I think it's close to 48 hours. It's definitely over
- 26:12Speaker 2: 2 days at 1000.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Um, in the ground for tickets, round tickets to watch
- 26:18Speaker 2: Roger Federer because the tickets are so elusive. Um, we
- 26:22Speaker 2: had to, we, we tried to buy those online. We
- 26:25Speaker 2: couldn't get them online. So, uh, we actually decided to,
- 26:29Speaker 2: you know, book our flight two days earlier to get
- 26:31Speaker 2: to the ground and make sure that we buffer 2
- 26:34Speaker 2: days so that we can camp there, literally camp with
- 26:36Speaker 2: the tent, uh, to get, to get tickets and make
- 26:39Speaker 2: sure we get tickets for my, for me and
- 26:40Speaker 2: my friend.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Can
- 26:41Speaker 2: I
- 26:41Speaker 1: ask, uh, which ground was this for Roger Federer?
- 26:44Speaker 2: Uh, um, I think it was, uh, close to, I
- 26:49Speaker 2: think it's the 4th round of semis really. I think semis,
- 26:52Speaker 1: was it Wimbledon?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it was Wimbledon at the Wimbledon, London. Yeah. Who,
- 26:56Speaker 2: who
- 26:56Speaker 1: was he taking on?
- 26:58Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I can't remember. Uh, it was, uh, I,
- 27:02Speaker 2: I was, I'm a Djokovic fan, sorry, but my friend,
- 27:06Speaker 2: my friend was the, uh, was the Roger Federer fan.
- 27:09Speaker 2: So we decided that I was thinking between, hey, Djokovic,
- 27:12Speaker 2: queue for 1 day, Federer queue for 2 days. I
- 27:14Speaker 2: was like, OK, let's do Federer since you're here for, uh,
- 27:17Speaker 2: since my friend is here for Federer, you know. Uh,
- 27:20Speaker 2: I can't remember. I think it was a,
- 27:22Speaker 2: Uh, it's, uh, is it Demitrov? I think it's Demitrov. OK,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but wow, so hopefully he won so long ago. It
- 27:29Speaker 2: was 2017 if I'm not wrong, yeah,
- 27:31Speaker 1: yeah, that's just nine years ago. Hopefully he won that
- 27:34Speaker 1: game and it was worth it for you.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yes, he, he, he, he won it. I believe so. Yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 2: he won it, he won it. It was quite, it,
- 27:40Speaker 2: it was quite, uh, I think it was 3 straight sets. Yeah,
- 27:43Speaker 2: but it's still worth it. It was so fun because
- 27:45Speaker 2: like we were not the only ones that had camped
- 27:47Speaker 2: on the ground. We actually got to make friends from
- 27:50Speaker 2: all over the, all over the world who are Fer friends, uh,
- 27:53Speaker 2: Federer fans as well. And, um, I think if I'm
- 27:56Speaker 2: not wrong, yeah, I, I made friends with two Japanese friends,
- 27:59Speaker 2: and they're quite cute.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Then they brought a soccer ball and we played soccer
- 28:02Speaker 2: together once we got our, our queue tickets. It was really, really,
- 28:06Speaker 2: it's such a wonderful
- 28:07Speaker 2: experience.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call, Grace. Perfect song
- 28:10Speaker 1: to sum up the next two weeks of me here
- 28:12Speaker 1: going solo on 987, but no, I'm not being sour.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Sonia and Jeremy, of course, going towards the southern side
- 28:18Speaker 1: of France for a beautiful honeymoon. That's it. Up for grabs.
- 28:23Speaker 1: We have $100.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Dining experience. All thanks to our friends over at Luce.
- 28:28Speaker 1: If you love your Italian restaurant, yes, they have it
- 28:31Speaker 1: for you. They got handmade pasta, signature cheese wheel, Frasier's
- 28:36Speaker 1: House Laksa grilled satay, and the signature luce miso dessert
- 28:41Speaker 1: prepared fresh for you. So a bit of a fusion
- 28:44Speaker 1: one and enjoy 30% off weekday dining with the promo code.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Luce 30, that's LUCE 30 and 25% off weekends with
- 28:55Speaker 1: Luche 25 LUCE 25 available for weekday lunch, Sunday champagne brunch,
- 29:01Speaker 1: and daily dinner. If you want more info, please log
- 29:04Speaker 1: on to Luce Singapore.com. And I think for today's prize,
- 29:08Speaker 1: let's give it to Grace who caught us earlier, waiting
- 29:11Speaker 1: in the cold, 2 days.
- 29:14Speaker 1: To watch Roger Federer play over at Wimbledon, so hopefully,
- 29:19Speaker 1: it was a great experience for you. I mean, yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 1: if I had to queue.
- 29:22Speaker 1: To watch Manchester United take on like Real Madrid in
- 29:26Speaker 1: the Champions League, I'll do it. I, I want to.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I think it'll be a money come by and memorable experience.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Speaking of queuing, I believe everybody who has a Visa
- 29:37Speaker 1: card might do this. The weekend, the pre-sale starts at
- 29:40Speaker 1: 10:00 a.m. All the best. But right now, I'm gonna
- 29:44Speaker 1: take you to Punggol Coast Hawker Center.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I've been running there a lot now. I, I really
- 29:50Speaker 1: enjoy the Punggol Digital District area where SIT is. That's
- 29:54Speaker 1: where I usually end my runs. If I start from
- 29:56Speaker 1: Serangoon MRT station, Exit D and I take the park
- 30:00Speaker 1: connector all the way to Hougang, then I'll run by
- 30:03Speaker 1: the new BTOs over at Serangoon, Punggol, and then Punggol Coast,
- 30:07Speaker 1: but
- 30:07Speaker 1: Yeah, a picture is now circulating of more than 20
- 30:12Speaker 1: seats choked with water packets at the hawker center, and
- 30:16Speaker 1: people are saying, hey, how can you all do this?
- 30:19Speaker 1: And the peak hours or peak minutes is during the
- 30:21Speaker 1: lunchtime hour, between 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. but apparently,
- 30:29Speaker 1: The strange thing is, nobody showed up to use the
- 30:33Speaker 1: tables that were choked by the water packets. So either
- 30:37Speaker 1: they were still getting food or it's one of those
- 30:39Speaker 1: selfish acts being done. So people online, of course, are
- 30:43Speaker 1: being a little bit
- 30:44Speaker 1: Polarized about the whole chopping culture and all that. People
- 30:48Speaker 1: are saying, yeah, what, if I'm gonna buy my food,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I want to secure a seat first, so I would choke,
- 30:52Speaker 1: then I'll go and buy, then I'll come back. But
- 30:54Speaker 1: then others are saying, hey, how about we buy our
- 30:57Speaker 1: food first, then we go and sit down and see
- 30:59Speaker 1: what happens. It's an age-old debate that's happening here in Singapore.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It won't die anytime soon. So please, if you're chopping
- 31:06Speaker 1: or what, be considerate.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I mean, we can only say it so many times
- 31:10Speaker 1: here on 987. It's up to you to apply that
- 31:13Speaker 1: behavior and hopefully, we see more of it soon. And
- 31:15Speaker 1: I remember sometime, was it earlier this year or last
- 31:18Speaker 1: year where Sonia and I, we cheekily shared, oh no,
- 31:21Speaker 1: Hooters is closing. How now? But yeah, some things come
- 31:26Speaker 1: to an end and I'm very happy and also surprised
- 31:30Speaker 1: that Hooters lasted as long as it did here.
- 31:32Speaker 1: In Singapore for as long as they have, but for
- 31:35Speaker 1: the ex-manager, I want to say hello to Celine Chua.
- 31:39Speaker 1: She said, you know what? I'm gonna do something on
- 31:41Speaker 1: my own now. She's opened a breakfast and beer themed
- 31:45Speaker 1: place over at the Tanjong Katong area. It's called Beans
- 31:49Speaker 1: and Barrel. So I'm looking at the menu right now.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Some of the recommendations, of course, a big breakfast, the
- 31:57Speaker 1: cream of mushroom soup, they say you must try the
- 32:01Speaker 1: Tiger prawn a la olio, the B&B burger, and the
- 32:05Speaker 1: eight-piece chicken wings. You have to try those and of course,
- 32:09Speaker 1: go for a nice beer along with it. And if
- 32:10Speaker 1: you were to go into the store, you would see
- 32:12Speaker 1: plenty of tributes and Easter eggs to what Celine Chua
- 32:17Speaker 1: used to do, which is be the general manager of
- 32:19Speaker 1: Hooters Singapore. And some of the Hooters staff has actually
- 32:22Speaker 1: joined in to work.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Under Beans and barrels, but no, they're not wearing the
- 32:26Speaker 1: Hooters outfit. It's a family-friendly place, so if you want to,
- 32:29Speaker 1: you can go support it over at the Tanjong Katong area,
- 32:32Speaker 1: and that is known as Beans and Barrel. In the meantime,
- 32:36Speaker 1: here's Elit, or rather Eli Elit lah. Good Monday morning
- 32:39Speaker 1: to me. Eli with It's me. OK, so I'm on
- 32:43Speaker 1: the website for Ticketmaster.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Loads of pre-sales are happening and you can expect your
- 32:51Speaker 1: tickets to cost around $158 to $1,028. I'm guessing that
- 32:59Speaker 1: could be the ultimate VIP package. I've learned my lesson.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'm never buying an ultimate VIP package ever again because
- 33:06Speaker 1: I thought Coldplay will be involved and they'll take a
- 33:08Speaker 1: picture with the with the ticket holders, but nope. So,
- 33:12Speaker 1: they actually do say that for the ultimate VIP ticket.
- 33:16Speaker 1: The weekend will not be participating, no artist participation, but
- 33:20Speaker 1: you get a reserved seated ticket. You have a stage
- 33:23Speaker 1: stage photo opportunity where the weekend will perform later. You
- 33:27Speaker 1: have an exclusive access to a VIP pre-show lounge 90
- 33:31Speaker 1: minutes before the show, including free flow of canapes and beverages.
- 33:35Speaker 1: You get exclusive photo souvenir, a DJ playing your favorite
- 33:39Speaker 1: weekend song. So, when I went for the Lady Gaga experience, um,
- 33:43Speaker 1: the food.
- 33:45Speaker 1: And here's an honest review, yeah. It's not gonna be
- 33:48Speaker 1: your F1 Paddock Club standard food. It's really like your
- 33:51Speaker 1: graduation ceremony of your or your office dinner catered buffet
- 33:55Speaker 1: kind of meals, and the DJ was Nash D, who
- 33:58Speaker 1: is amazing. I love DJ Nash D, but the music
- 34:02Speaker 1: level was quite low in the room itself. So I
- 34:05Speaker 1: really hope they changed it and they bring it back
- 34:07Speaker 1: up for you.
- 34:08Speaker 1: And then looking at the seat map, the standing pen
- 34:11Speaker 1: is huge. It's almost as if the whole field of
- 34:16Speaker 1: the national stadium, and then the rest of it is
- 34:19Speaker 1: all seated. So depending on what kind of categories you're
- 34:22Speaker 1: going for, maybe pick one that best suits you. And
- 34:26Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, today it's the Visa pre-sale. No,
- 34:31Speaker 1: this pre-sale is the weekend subscribers only. So you have
- 34:34Speaker 1: a code that will be mailed to you on the
- 34:36Speaker 1: weekend website.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I don't know whether it's too late to sign up
- 34:40Speaker 1: for it. If not, then you can look forward to
- 34:42Speaker 1: the Visa pre-sale and then maybe even the Trip.com pre-sale,
- 34:47Speaker 1: Live Nation pre-sale, then it goes to general sale as well.
- 34:51Speaker 1: All the best. What you're going for. Hope to see
- 34:54Speaker 1: you October 2nd or October 3rd at the National Stadium.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I really wanna catch this tour live. The staging and
- 35:02Speaker 1: judging from all the clips I've seen on Netflix and
- 35:04Speaker 1: on YouTube, it is amazing.
