- 0:27Speaker 1: reach out and hit that subscribe button and help us
- 0:31Speaker 1: get there. Now, gentlemen, the twenty twenty six Cardinal Hall
- 0:36Speaker 1: of Fame ballot is out. There are four nominees, four
- 0:40Speaker 1: names on the ballot, and it's Albert, it's Yachti, It's
- 0:45Speaker 1: Brian Jordan, It's George Hendrick.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Jordan and Silent George were great players, but it's not
- 0:54Speaker 2: their year. Guys, I don't even know the.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Rules of how this works, Like there's committees and a
- 1:00Speaker 1: fan vote. I don't think any of that comes into
- 1:02Speaker 1: play this year. It's Yati and Albert going into the
- 1:06Speaker 1: Cardinal Hall of Fame together, and the other guys are
- 1:09Speaker 1: just gonna have to wait to Matt, do I have
- 1:11Speaker 1: that wrong?
- 1:12Speaker 2: That's how this is going, right.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I can't imagine it going any other way. Two of
- 1:19Speaker 3: the great cardinals of all time. I mean this is
- 1:24Speaker 3: going to be probably I would say, the most attended,
- 1:29Speaker 3: the biggest hyped. I imagine that the weekend or the
- 1:35Speaker 3: whenever this happens, that it'll probably be, you know, the biggest,
- 1:42Speaker 3: probably the biggest draw they have all year, I would guess.
- 1:45Speaker 3: But I think it's yeah, I mean, it's this is
- 1:49Speaker 3: this is exciting obviously, like I said, beloved fan favorites,
- 1:54Speaker 3: incredible players, Cardinals. So yeah, I mean, I look, no
- 1:59Speaker 3: disrespect to the other two, but uh, these are these
- 2:02Speaker 3: are two guys that might end up with statues.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Out in front of Bush Stadium.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I probably think they will. Lance it's kind of nice
- 2:09Speaker 1: that they're gonna go in together again. Whatever the rules are,
- 2:12Speaker 1: we don't know, throw them out. It's nice to see
- 2:14Speaker 1: those guys do it together. They went out together, go
- 2:17Speaker 1: into the Hall of Fame together.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Kind of nice.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a I don't know
- 2:22Speaker 4: the rules either. I don't know how many people are
- 2:24Speaker 4: allowed to get in per year, but those who are
- 2:28Speaker 4: on the ballot, the rules should be that those two
- 2:30Speaker 4: get in automatically. And if you want to have a third,
- 2:33Speaker 4: just so it's you know that you can have a vote.
- 2:35Speaker 4: I guess you could do it that way this year.
- 2:37Speaker 4: But I mean, like Matt just said, it will, it might.
- 2:42Speaker 4: It's not a maybe. They will most definitely be the
- 2:44Speaker 4: most attended series of the year when they when those
- 2:47Speaker 4: two get inducted, and it's the Hall of Fame weekend,
- 2:49Speaker 4: There's there's no doubt about it. That's pretty much the
- 2:52Speaker 4: only thing Cardinals fans have to look forward to this
- 2:54Speaker 4: year is is the week when they get inducted in
- 2:58Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame and all of the all of
- 3:00Speaker 4: the you know, the red coach are they're doing their thing.
- 3:04Speaker 4: So yeah, it'll be it'll be a cool time for
- 3:06Speaker 4: Cardinals fans for them, and like Matt said, statues out
- 3:09Speaker 4: in front, I think are the the next things after
- 3:12Speaker 4: this for them. I mean, their careers were awesome, and
- 3:15Speaker 4: you know, it's amazing that they get to go in
- 3:17Speaker 4: together and hopefully it's the same thing when they go
- 3:21Speaker 4: into Cooperstown together.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And the Cardinals will field the team with some young
- 3:25Speaker 1: guys who hope to get there one day, so the excitement.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Dream big, right, Matt, Yeah, dream.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Big, try it, yeah, I hope.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So Matt, you you have a red jacket, what does
- 3:40Speaker 1: that mean to you?
- 3:40Speaker 2: And the whole Hall of Fame weekend being out of
- 3:43Speaker 2: the ballot getting and what's that way?
- 3:48Speaker 3: I think, particularly with an organization like the Cardinals, to
- 3:51Speaker 3: be considered for the Hall of Fame and then to
- 3:54Speaker 3: get voted in to the Cardinals Hall of Fame is uh,
- 3:58Speaker 3: you know, like it's probably one of the you know,
- 4:01Speaker 3: it's it's a huge honor exciting. So to get a
- 4:06Speaker 3: chance to be part of that fraternity is uh is
- 4:09Speaker 3: something that I'm really proud of and h to get
- 4:12Speaker 3: a chance to come back and and and put that
- 4:15Speaker 3: jacket on and watch those guys go in and just
- 4:19Speaker 3: like I said, you know, just sit around before opening
- 4:22Speaker 3: day in that room where we kind of wait to
- 4:25Speaker 3: do the the uh the car parade, and and you
- 4:28Speaker 3: just kind of look around the room. It's a it's
- 4:31Speaker 3: pretty cool as a baseball somebody was raised in baseball
- 4:34Speaker 3: and a big, big baseball fan too be part of
- 4:38Speaker 3: that fraternity and and uh, and then Albert and YACHTI
- 4:41Speaker 3: be in it, and then you know, eventually Wayo and
- 4:44Speaker 3: and some other guys and maybe Lance Lynn and Karp
- 4:46Speaker 3: and you know, these guys that were were teammates of mine.
- 4:50Speaker 3: It's just a really cool fraternity to be part of.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And he mentioned Lance Lynn. Let's get this guy in
- 4:56Speaker 1: the battle. His numbers as a Saint Louis Cardinal, we're
- 5:01Speaker 1: really good.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean.
- 5:04Speaker 1: If you look at just the number, two hundred and
- 5:06Speaker 1: six games, three point four to three ERA World Series
- 5:11Speaker 1: champions seventy nine fifty one over a strikeout per inning
- 5:15Speaker 1: in his Cardinal career, an All Star again that World
- 5:18Speaker 1: Series championship, Lance what would that mean to you to
- 5:22Speaker 1: get your name on the ballot. And once it's on
- 5:24Speaker 1: the ballot, between me and Holiday and Kyle Gibson out
- 5:28Speaker 1: there lobbying, you were chewing.
- 5:30Speaker 2: But what would that mean to you?
- 5:32Speaker 4: No, Like Matt said, the fraternity, I mean the opening
- 5:36Speaker 4: day in Saint Louis, seeing all the Cardinals Hall of
- 5:39Speaker 4: Famers there and seeing the everything. You know, that's when
- 5:43Speaker 4: you play the game and you do those things. You
- 5:45Speaker 4: look up to those guys and those are the guys
- 5:47Speaker 4: that help you, help drive you to be the best
- 5:50Speaker 4: you can in Saint Louis and a part of my
- 5:54Speaker 4: time there is you leaned a lot on those guys
- 5:56Speaker 4: when you were coming up, and they were always in
- 5:59Speaker 4: spring training, you know, we always got to talk to
- 6:01Speaker 4: you know lou Brock and and and Gibby and everybody,
- 6:05Speaker 4: and they were always so great to talk to. Uh
- 6:08Speaker 4: So to even have a or even to be kind
- 6:10Speaker 4: of spoken in the Cardinal Hall of Fame with people
- 6:12Speaker 4: like that is awesome. And like Matt said, there's so
- 6:15Speaker 4: many great teammates I had that are in so to
- 6:18Speaker 4: be would even to be, you know, nominated, would be
- 6:22Speaker 4: an honor. And if I were to get in one day,
- 6:24Speaker 4: that would be an honor too. So you know, you
- 6:26Speaker 4: play the game to win and to do the best
- 6:29Speaker 4: you can for your team, and then at the end
- 6:31Speaker 4: of the day you look up and hopefully you play
- 6:33Speaker 4: good enough to to be, you know, recognized for something,
- 6:36Speaker 4: and you know that'd be a cool thing to be
- 6:37Speaker 4: recognized for.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I think we should make that happen. I think we
- 6:41Speaker 2: can make it happen.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I want to ask you, two more years, tell me
- 6:44Speaker 4: even allowed, right, say what I got, Like two more years?
- 6:48Speaker 4: Tell them even allowed to be on the ballot, right,
- 6:50Speaker 4: because yeah, it's like every three years retired or something
- 6:54Speaker 4: like that.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so, But I'll be honest.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The guys who made the worlds I am next day,
- 7:00Speaker 1: they don't even know the rules.
- 7:01Speaker 2: The guys that are on the pan.
- 7:03Speaker 4: It's well, it's why did these guys YACHTI and al
- 7:06Speaker 4: We're not just get put in the day they retired.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I think it's.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Three's three years? Yeah, so we got a minute.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I mean, my hope is Matt Carpenter and I can
- 7:17Speaker 4: go in together because we retired the same year. That
- 7:19Speaker 4: would be cool.
- 7:20Speaker 1: All Right, We're gonna start a campaign and Holidays gonna
- 7:23Speaker 1: finance it. Okay, he's gonna put some dark money behind it,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and we're gonna buy get that wb DM on it.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Both you guys played with YACHTI and Albert, and since
- 7:37Speaker 1: they're on the ballot and they're getting in, I just want.
- 7:40Speaker 2: To get your thoughts.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Matt, you're playing with those guys, you talk about, guys
- 7:44Speaker 1: who probably will end up with statues, you know, in
- 7:47Speaker 1: front of Boys Stadium.
- 7:48Speaker 2: At some point.
- 7:50Speaker 1: What is it about those guys that you think made
- 7:52Speaker 1: them special? Each I know we're different, but what made
- 7:55Speaker 1: them special?
- 7:57Speaker 3: Well, I think when you talk about the level of
- 7:59Speaker 3: Claire you're talking to, there's a whole bunch of things
- 8:01Speaker 3: that made him special, you know. I mean, I think
- 8:03Speaker 3: obviously you have to have the talent. Both were tremendously
- 8:07Speaker 3: talented or are tremendously talented people. But then you know,
- 8:12Speaker 3: then then comes the work ethic and the competitive spirit
- 8:15Speaker 3: and the preparation. You have to have all those things
- 8:19Speaker 3: to achieve the things that they've achieved in the game.
- 8:21Speaker 3: So it's not it's not easy to say, oh, well,
- 8:24Speaker 3: you know, Albert had just incredible power or hit skill
- 8:29Speaker 3: or YACHTI was just you know, he came from a
- 8:32Speaker 3: great family that was amazing, you know, it had great
- 8:35Speaker 3: hands to catch. I mean, these guys were like, you know,
- 8:39Speaker 3: generational type players, first ballot Hall of famers, So it
- 8:43Speaker 3: encompasses a lot to be achieved the things that they achieved.
- 8:47Speaker 3: So they did, you know, like I said, special talent,
- 8:51Speaker 3: special work ethics, special preparation, and then you know, just
- 8:56Speaker 3: the the ability to go out and and compete day
- 9:00Speaker 3: in and day out, and and uh and and and
- 9:03Speaker 3: post and go out there and and produce. So yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's not one thing, it's not two things.
- 9:11Speaker 3: It's a lot of things. When you when you have
- 9:13Speaker 3: the careers that those two have.
- 9:15Speaker 1: How about you lance to you what stood out about
- 9:18Speaker 1: those two guys that made them who they are?
- 9:21Speaker 4: Has played well Obviously, in this game, you gotta be
- 9:23Speaker 4: able to show up every day and play, and their
- 9:25Speaker 4: ability to do that was was amazing. Uh, even the
- 9:28Speaker 4: older they got, you know, they were they were always
- 9:31Speaker 4: you know, pretty much available, which is amazing. I'd say,
- 9:34Speaker 4: you know, you had all the talent, you had, all
- 9:36Speaker 4: the work ethic and all that, but their ability to
- 9:39Speaker 4: see the game, slow the game down, really know what
- 9:44Speaker 4: they're good at and how to make sure that that
- 9:47Speaker 4: comes to them was it was amazing. Like they would
- 9:50Speaker 4: manipulate the game and at bats and like they would
- 9:54Speaker 4: just I feel like they were teasing people to do
- 9:57Speaker 4: what they wanted to do, and then when they did it,
- 9:59Speaker 4: they didn't they never missed or they never like it
- 10:02Speaker 4: felt like they never missed, you know, you know they
- 10:04Speaker 4: never had a thousand, but like they never when they
- 10:08Speaker 4: pictures made mistakes. When base runners you know, tried YACHTI
- 10:12Speaker 4: it's like, hey, nice try, I'm not going to miss
- 10:14Speaker 4: the mistake. You know, great players are great, but like
- 10:18Speaker 4: the greatest of all time, whenever you make a mistake,
- 10:21Speaker 4: they made you pay. And it felt like that's what
- 10:23Speaker 4: they do because they were always prepared for it and
- 10:25Speaker 4: they it was like the game was they were waiting
- 10:27Speaker 4: for you to screw up so they could just win
- 10:30Speaker 4: and beat you. And they loved doing it too, So
- 10:32Speaker 4: it was kind of fun seeing them want to be
- 10:35Speaker 4: great and being great and bringing everybody along with them too,
- 10:38Speaker 4: which is something that I know everybody talked about. They
- 10:41Speaker 4: were great at bringing everyone along and wanting everyone to
- 10:44Speaker 4: be a part of what they were doing, and it
- 10:46Speaker 4: was a lot easier for them than probably than everyone else,
- 10:49Speaker 4: but they really tried to make sure that they included
- 10:51Speaker 4: everyone too, which was awesome.
- 10:53Speaker 1: As you advanced in your cardinal career, lance, was it
- 10:56Speaker 1: more difficult to shake off Yaty?
- 10:58Speaker 2: How did that relationship go? What was that like having
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yati behind a flate?
- 11:03Speaker 4: I think as it went on, it was kind of
- 11:05Speaker 4: crazy because Yachty loved breaking balls. He loved to call
- 11:08Speaker 4: breaking balls. But as the older we got and the
- 11:10Speaker 4: more we started understanding each other, it was there was
- 11:14Speaker 4: times at the end we didn't even need to shake off.
- 11:16Speaker 4: I could just stand there and not shake off and
- 11:18Speaker 4: throw another pitch and he would. He knew what I
- 11:21Speaker 4: was going to and it's pretty simple, that's going to
- 11:23Speaker 4: something hard, So it didn't really matter, and he was
- 11:26Speaker 4: going to be able to frame it. But our ability
- 11:29Speaker 4: early on I think was our hardest time, because it
- 11:32Speaker 4: was he had to learn my mentality. I had to
- 11:34Speaker 4: learn kind of the nuances of pitching in the big leagues.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Coming up in the minor leagues and through life, I
- 11:41Speaker 4: just overpower people with my fastball, and in the big
- 11:45Speaker 4: leagues I eventually learned how to do that, but I
- 11:47Speaker 4: had to have other ways to do it. And he
- 11:49Speaker 4: taught me those things to be able to sink it
- 11:51Speaker 4: and cut it, and when to use it on the
- 11:53Speaker 4: sides of the plate, and way to set up hitters.
- 11:55Speaker 4: And you know, that was the thing that he really
- 11:57Speaker 4: taught me along the way, And I think he enjoyed
- 12:00Speaker 4: catching me in the sense of it was kind of easy.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Here we go, let's go right after him, and we
- 12:04Speaker 4: don't have to try to trick anybody, and and it
- 12:07Speaker 4: was kind of fun as we got going later in
- 12:08Speaker 4: my career.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Now, Matt, you're a great hitter, And I know hitters
- 12:13Speaker 1: always help each other out saying hey, maybe try this.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Is there ever a time you're like, hey, Albert, I
- 12:18Speaker 1: see her. Maybe fel fell into a pattern.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Of doing this.
- 12:21Speaker 1: What was it like like trading inside tidbits with with
- 12:25Speaker 1: a guy like Albert.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think, you know, always talking hitting
- 12:33Speaker 3: and yeah, I think he just bounce bounce things off
- 12:37Speaker 3: each other. So yeah, I mean, I don't think there's
- 12:41Speaker 3: ever a time where you look at a hitter like
- 12:42Speaker 3: Albert and be like, hey, Albert, you're you're coming off
- 12:45Speaker 3: the ball like you just I mean, he he knows himself,
- 12:48Speaker 3: so just talking about hitting or approach or you know,
- 12:51Speaker 3: if if I was scuffling a little bit, maybe just
- 12:54Speaker 3: ask him to watch my video or you know, watch
- 12:56Speaker 3: me in the cage. So I think that's part of
- 12:59Speaker 3: you know, getting a chance to play with somebody like Albert,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you you want to utilize it, and honestly, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 3: just getting to play with them for you know, the
- 13:10Speaker 3: two and a half years when I got traded over there,
- 13:12Speaker 3: I was like, man, I'm gonna get to play with
- 13:13Speaker 3: this guy, you know for like seven or eight years,
- 13:17Speaker 3: and and you know, I can't wait to So I
- 13:21Speaker 3: was a little bummed, you know, when he when he
- 13:23Speaker 3: signed with the Angels, but it was a great you know,
- 13:27Speaker 3: two and a half to two plus years of getting
- 13:30Speaker 3: a chance to watch him and pick his brain and
- 13:32Speaker 3: talk hitting with him, and the same with Yati, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 3: just talking the game and like like Lance was alluding
- 13:39Speaker 3: to earlier, these guys were are are just incredible students
- 13:44Speaker 3: of the game. And that's why you know, both of
- 13:46Speaker 3: them are you know, managing certain things and and people
- 13:49Speaker 3: want them, uh to be part of their organization is
- 13:52Speaker 3: because of how they think and how their brain works
- 13:54Speaker 3: inside the game. So yeah, always getting a chance to
- 13:58Speaker 3: pick their brains and talk talkball, whether it's hitting mechanics
- 14:01Speaker 3: or approach, or what pictures are trying to do or
- 14:05Speaker 3: you know what Yachtie sees from behind the plate and
- 14:07Speaker 3: all that stuff was some of the most fun times
- 14:11Speaker 3: that I had as far as just learning and getting
- 14:14Speaker 3: to know, you know, what they think and why they
- 14:16Speaker 3: think it.
- 14:18Speaker 2: You know what else, it's fun. Can you just raise
- 14:20Speaker 2: up a little bit?
