- 0:01Speaker 1: Once again for the Minnesota Twins. Two out of three
- 0:04Speaker 1: ain't bad. I'm not gonna sing it. I thought about it.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do it. We'll just move on. The
- 0:09Speaker 1: Twins win for the eighth time in nine series as
- 0:13Speaker 1: they take two out of three from the Angels this
- 0:15Speaker 1: weekend to end the unofficial first half. Got to say, unofficial,
- 0:20Speaker 1: it's the seventh, I believe, of those eight series wins
- 0:23Speaker 1: where they've won exactly two out of three games. Bounce
- 0:26Speaker 1: back from a Friday loss, one Saturday, one Sunday behind
- 0:29Speaker 1: Joe Ryan and TODJ. Bradley, and they head to the
- 0:31Speaker 1: All Star Break forty eight and forty nine and tied
- 0:35Speaker 1: for the last wild card spot in the hot garbage
- 0:39Speaker 1: American League. But we'll take it. This is Twins Citi's
- 0:42Speaker 1: Territory Your Minnesota Twins podcast on a file Territory Network
- 0:45Speaker 1: guy m Zach Pierce of the Athletic joined as always
- 0:48Speaker 1: by Dan Hayes the Athletics, Minnesota Twins beat writer and
- 0:51Speaker 1: Tyler Duffy, longtime Major leaguer guys forty eight and forty
- 0:56Speaker 1: nine is really pretty much on pace with what most
- 0:59Speaker 1: people think about this team going into the season a
- 1:02Speaker 1: little bit better, perhaps, But given the vibes around this
- 1:05Speaker 1: team heading into the heading into the season, with all
- 1:08Speaker 1: the trades last year, given the injuries they've dealt with,
- 1:11Speaker 1: dan nothing short of a successful first ninety seven games
- 1:15Speaker 1: for the Twins.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Did you ever think you'd be so hyped off a
- 1:21Speaker 2: club playing for ninety five ball. They're playing four ninety
- 1:24Speaker 2: five ball, they're not even playing five hundred ball, And
- 1:27Speaker 2: yet here we are hyped off of what the Twins
- 1:30Speaker 2: are playing, the way they are playing. It's probably because
- 1:34Speaker 2: it's like you said, look, it's unexpected. There are so
- 1:38Speaker 2: many people who are gonna be pissed because they took.
- 1:40Speaker 3: That ninety one losses. The bet is coming up.
- 1:47Speaker 2: The Twins basically have to go like twenty three and
- 1:51Speaker 2: I don't know what is that the rest of the
- 1:52Speaker 2: way twenty three and forty two the rest of the
- 1:54Speaker 2: way to ruin a lot.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Of people's bets.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And they all thought the Twins were gonna easily blow up,
- 2:00Speaker 2: asked that ninety one ninety two losses over And they're
- 2:04Speaker 2: not looking like that right now.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I mean, look, they're playing selfless baseball.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Guys are moving around the diamond, Guys are willingly moving
- 2:13Speaker 2: around the lineup. They're they're taking platoon spots, they're playing
- 2:17Speaker 2: for each other and they're having fun. And I wrote
- 2:20Speaker 2: something about it today at the Athletic Typically the last day,
- 2:25Speaker 2: guys are festive, right before they all start break. They're
- 2:28Speaker 2: in a good mood because everybody knows they get to
- 2:30Speaker 2: go home for four days and they're going to head
- 2:32Speaker 2: to a lake or a pool or to the beach
- 2:35Speaker 2: and do something like that. And it's they we have
- 2:37Speaker 2: this four day break, and everybody was excited that way.
- 2:41Speaker 2: But you could tell they stuck around a little bit
- 2:43Speaker 2: and they were just soaking up the vibe.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Guys were going on vacations with each other.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I heard at least multiple players were going on vacations
- 2:50Speaker 2: with each other with their significant others. You know, it's
- 2:52Speaker 2: a lakes stuff like that. They look, this team really
- 2:56Speaker 2: likes playing with each other, and I think that that
- 2:59Speaker 2: is showing on the field. They are engaged, they are
- 3:05Speaker 2: rooting for each other. I still think the other night
- 3:08Speaker 2: when Alan Roaden got the walk off and Kyler Fedco
- 3:10Speaker 2: who had come up and essentially taking playing time from him,
- 3:14Speaker 2: and Fedco is the first guy out there to greet
- 3:16Speaker 2: or celebrate with Rodin.
- 3:18Speaker 3: That shows you everything you need to.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Know about this team and the way that they are,
- 3:23Speaker 2: Like the chemistry that this club has right now, and that's.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Hard to replace.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It's hard to find or manufacture, and when clubs have it,
- 3:34Speaker 2: you can go a long way with it. And I
- 3:35Speaker 2: think that right now we're seeing that with this club,
- 3:38Speaker 2: sixteen of twenty five going into the break. You know,
- 3:42Speaker 2: three weeks ago we were talking about this team being
- 3:44Speaker 2: eight under three and a half weeks ago, it's eight
- 3:47Speaker 2: under five hundred and the season on the brink, and
- 3:49Speaker 2: they entered the break one under five hundred and probably
- 3:53Speaker 2: if we're talking this way again in two weeks looking
- 3:56Speaker 2: to add at the deadline, and that is a win
- 3:59Speaker 2: for the four point three percenters, that's a win for
- 4:04Speaker 2: you know, the front office and the organization as a whole.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, this stretch of eight series wins in their last
- 4:12Speaker 1: nine started right when they had hit that season low
- 4:14Speaker 1: point of eight games under five hundred. One sweep they
- 4:18Speaker 1: got swept and the one they lost, and then the
- 4:20Speaker 1: rest were seven two to one series. And that's how
- 4:23Speaker 1: they've climbed from eight to one game under five hundred,
- 4:26Speaker 1: A slow climb over a month. But what's been impressive
- 4:29Speaker 1: to me, Tyler is I think we talked about it
- 4:32Speaker 1: after the Cleveland series. They lost the finale of the
- 4:35Speaker 1: Cleveland series. That was the first time in that stretch
- 4:38Speaker 1: of the series they had won where they didn't win
- 4:40Speaker 1: the finale. So all of these series were tied at
- 4:42Speaker 1: one with that final game kind of really mattering for
- 4:45Speaker 1: the tone of how players felt. And they've come up
- 4:47Speaker 1: big in those games every time in this stretch.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know, we've hit on it so many times,
- 4:53Speaker 4: but it's it's a good thing to have. It's been
- 4:56Speaker 4: a different guy seemingly every weekend, every series, it's someone
- 4:59Speaker 4: else stepped up. You know, for felt like a month
- 5:02Speaker 4: it was Josh Bell, just two out singles, driving in
- 5:05Speaker 4: a run here and there. You know, Roy's hitting homers
- 5:08Speaker 4: when he needs to. Clemens has been hot, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 4: Kriidler go across board, Key show. The guys have all
- 5:14Speaker 4: been contributing, which I think is a great, great precursor
- 5:20Speaker 4: for the second half, because no one was like absolutely
- 5:24Speaker 4: on fire, carrying the team by themselves. It was all,
- 5:27Speaker 4: you know, one guy individually. You know, Buck even hit
- 5:29Speaker 4: on it when he was going on the injured list
- 5:32Speaker 4: that I don't need to try to play through things
- 5:34Speaker 4: because our guys are playing well enough to me feel
- 5:36Speaker 4: comfortable staying out of these games for a week or two.
- 5:41Speaker 4: It's been the pedigree all year is to show up.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Somebody else is contributing. Guys playing all over the field,
- 5:47Speaker 4: you know defense, Keyshel's playing outfield, now, he's playing center field,
- 5:50Speaker 4: running down balls. You know, even at the play yesterday's game,
- 5:54Speaker 4: I think it was Larnick just couldn't see the ball.
- 5:56Speaker 4: You know, day games there Son's right over the home
- 6:00Speaker 4: it's tough to see out and left and Keishall did
- 6:03Speaker 4: an instinctive play that a lot of guys probably wouldn't
- 6:06Speaker 4: have made. You know, it's little things like that all
- 6:09Speaker 4: year that are gonna keep adding up to wins. You know,
- 6:12Speaker 4: just playing good, you know, old school, get them on,
- 6:15Speaker 4: get them over, get them in baseball, make your defensive plays,
- 6:18Speaker 4: don't give up any extra runs, extra bases.
- 6:20Speaker 5: It's it's working right now.
- 6:23Speaker 4: And not to mention, you got two really solid starters
- 6:25Speaker 4: at the top of that rotation right now that are
- 6:27Speaker 4: that are helping sure everything up.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Duff or Zac, you hinted the rubber match. Six
- 6:36Speaker 2: straight rubber match victories for the Twins, and early in
- 6:41Speaker 2: the season, you know, they had that one in Baltimore
- 6:45Speaker 2: where they went into Sunday and a chance to win
- 6:47Speaker 2: the opening series and lost a close game. But we
- 6:51Speaker 2: were talking about it early in April that they were
- 6:53Speaker 2: missing those opportunities and it happened quite a few times
- 6:56Speaker 2: and it felt like wasted opportunities and the team didn't
- 6:59Speaker 2: have much root room to let those kind of moments
- 7:03Speaker 2: slip away.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Well here they are.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You know, when they fell to their worst and to
- 7:07Speaker 2: win six straight series deciding victories is a really a
- 7:11Speaker 2: great stat They're ten and six overall in rubber games
- 7:15Speaker 2: this season, so when when it's on the line to
- 7:18Speaker 2: win a series, they're playing really good baseball. And we
- 7:22Speaker 2: saw it on Sunday, how sound it was. Taj Bradley
- 7:25Speaker 2: I wrote it that it was soul sucking heat. We're
- 7:27Speaker 2: gonna get a lot of it this week, just start
- 7:31Speaker 2: of a heat wave. It was not fun and it
- 7:34Speaker 2: was great for seven innings. Just gave up the two solos,
- 7:38Speaker 2: really buckled down. He had a first and third and
- 7:40Speaker 2: nobody out in the sixth inning and got Jorge Silaire
- 7:44Speaker 2: hit a fly ball the week right and runner couldn't
- 7:47Speaker 2: tag and then got Joe Adele to hit into a
- 7:50Speaker 2: six four three double play. Ryan Kridler with the excellent
- 7:53Speaker 2: turn on a very slow chopping with the fast runner.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He was great turned it and oh Ryan Kreidler had
- 7:59Speaker 2: three outstand name plays yesterday.
- 8:00Speaker 3: He hit that diving grabbed to.
- 8:02Speaker 2: End the fifth inning, and then he also had kind
- 8:06Speaker 2: of the I don't know how you like he swiped
- 8:08Speaker 2: his glove at it in the fourth inning, that that
- 8:11Speaker 2: hot shot.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Yeah, like, he just he's.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Been outstanding there, clearly at their best when he is
- 8:18Speaker 2: out there at shortstop. Going to Indie yesterday he was
- 8:21Speaker 2: plus one defensive run save team is minus fourteen. But look,
- 8:25Speaker 2: they're playing clean ball. They're playing good ball in those
- 8:28Speaker 2: Sunday games, and those are the hardest ones sometimes because
- 8:31Speaker 2: you played Saturday night. You know, you have the emotion
- 8:33Speaker 2: of a Saturday night crowd, and then you come back
- 8:35Speaker 2: on Sunday and you have to get up early and
- 8:37Speaker 2: get your motor going early in the morning. And they're
- 8:40Speaker 2: coming out of those those series with wins, and it's
- 8:44Speaker 2: definitely part of the momentum that they have grabbed.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Might have been a sweep if Nolan Shanwell was a
- 8:51Speaker 1: few inches shorter.
- 8:53Speaker 6: What a catch.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Heck of a play to end Friday night's game on
- 8:56Speaker 1: a rocket from Cody Clemens, full extension to make the catch.
- 9:00Speaker 1: They were all low scoring games, tight games. Twins again
- 9:03Speaker 1: pulled out Saturday and Sunday. They are now, as I mentioned,
- 9:07Speaker 1: tied in the wildcard for the last, the third and
- 9:10Speaker 1: final wildcard spot with the Seattle Mariners both forty eight
- 9:14Speaker 1: and forty nine. It's still very crowded. Red Sox, who
- 9:18Speaker 1: they've gotten hot as well, right behind at forty six
- 9:22Speaker 1: and forty eight, and then Astros Orioles, Blue Jays all
- 9:25Speaker 1: still right there. Tiger's been playing well too. They're coming
- 9:28Speaker 1: up and in the Central Twins are three games back
- 9:32Speaker 1: of Chicago and Cleveland. I think safe to say, much
- 9:37Speaker 1: better than most people. Even those of us who claimed
- 9:41Speaker 1: to be four point three percenters I think had our
- 9:42Speaker 1: doubts at times while the team was swooning there in May,
- 9:47Speaker 1: down to eight games under. But they've set themselves up
- 9:51Speaker 1: for potentially fun August, September and rest of July here
- 9:55Speaker 1: as well. If you like what you hear, we'd love
- 9:57Speaker 1: it if you'd follow along with us Takas Akas describe.
- 10:01Speaker 1: If you're watching on YouTube, there is a QR code
- 10:03Speaker 1: on the screen to make that super easy for you.

- 10:11Speaker 1: We'd love to have you along for the ride. We'll
- 10:13Speaker 1: be right back after a word from our sponsor.
- 10:17Speaker 7: Many people have this problem.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I want to eat healthy.
- 10:20Speaker 7: I have the willpower, I don't have the time and
- 10:23Speaker 7: the organization. I need help.
- 10:25Speaker 3: What do you do?
- 10:26Speaker 6: I mean you go to Factor. I got two boys
- 10:28Speaker 6: that are looking for the gains and they always come
- 10:30Speaker 6: in the house.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I'm looking for food.
- 10:34Speaker 6: Now they have actual healthy food that is great for them,
- 10:38Speaker 6: and you know what, it's ready in the fridge for
- 10:40Speaker 6: them to pop in and make it right away.
- 10:42Speaker 7: And they have meals built around your goals. It could
- 10:45Speaker 7: be weight loss, overall nutrition gains, more protein, fresh, never frozen,
- 10:51Speaker 7: over one hundred rotating weekly meals, including globally inspired flavors
- 10:56Speaker 7: like Mediterranean and Asian. I get all kinds of different
- 10:59Speaker 7: salads from Factor that I love, quick easy, They can
- 11:03Speaker 7: be ready in two minutes. Head to Factor meals dot com,

- 11:19Speaker 1: Many cratzy and a little aggressive.
- 11:23Speaker 5: There got some animals in his house.
- 11:26Speaker 1: It's like like the Bison and that viral video.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yes, Yester, Yeah, yeah, goodness.
- 11:34Speaker 1: We uh it's obviously All Star week. The Twins are
- 11:37Speaker 1: off till Friday. We will still have three shows for
- 11:39Speaker 1: you this week. We'll have a lot of time Wednesday
- 11:43Speaker 1: and or Friday to set up the second half. It's
- 11:45Speaker 1: a it's a tough start on the road at against
- 11:49Speaker 1: the Cubs and then straight to Cleveland for four games
- 11:52Speaker 1: after that. I was shocked listening to broadcast yesterday Glenn
- 11:56Speaker 1: Perkins said he's never been to Wrigley Field. I couldn't
- 12:00Speaker 1: believe that you have it either.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Yeah, well I got to go, but I was shocked
- 12:05Speaker 4: that Perk had never Oh yeah, but with the old scheduling,
- 12:09Speaker 4: like I never played in Colorado and I only played
- 12:12Speaker 4: them once in like seven years until they changed the schedule.
- 12:16Speaker 4: So like, if it didn't line up for you and
- 12:18Speaker 4: like me as option whatever.
- 12:20Speaker 1: That's probably a great picture though.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Yeah, there's worse places to miss. You know, I can
- 12:24Speaker 5: always go visit later.
- 12:25Speaker 4: But yeah, that was shocking that Perk hadn't hit all
- 12:28Speaker 4: thirty you know, or every stadium for that matter.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Yeah. The other big news over the weekend the Twins
- 12:35Speaker 1: have some new players on the roster or in the
- 12:38Speaker 1: system after the MLB Draft this weekend, and their most
- 12:44Speaker 1: notable selection, the number three overall pick, was Georgia tech
- 12:47Speaker 1: catcher Von Lackey. Dan, how about we roll the video first?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Should we roll the video first?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:55Speaker 2: I shot some video of Sean Johnson and the Twins
- 12:59Speaker 2: vice president of whatever amateur scouting director.
- 13:04Speaker 3: The titles are too long, but.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Shawn Johnson's been the guy for about ten years running drafts,
- 13:09Speaker 2: and we talked to him after the draft.
- 13:11Speaker 3: They were clearly excited about gating Von Lackey.
- 13:15Speaker 1: All right, So here is Shawn Johnson on Von Lackey.
- 13:21Speaker 8: You mean to at a guy like von Lackey to
- 13:23Speaker 8: the organization, Oh, it means the world. Just a great
- 13:27Speaker 8: fit for organization on every front. Fantastic player, fantastic human being,
- 13:34Speaker 8: great character.
- 13:34Speaker 3: The more work we.
- 13:35Speaker 8: Did on vonn over the last few months, going back
- 13:39Speaker 8: to last summer, like the glowing reviews, he has raving
- 13:41Speaker 8: fans wherever he's been just a fantastic teammate. Beyond the skills,
- 13:47Speaker 8: you know, we think he's a great catcher with even
- 13:49Speaker 8: more upside there Defensively, it's been great to see the
- 13:52Speaker 8: offensive adjustments he's made since he stepped on.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Campus at Georgia Tech.
- 13:57Speaker 5: And you know, these.
- 13:59Speaker 8: Guys are always fun when there. You just see these
- 14:01Speaker 8: guys blossom and bloom. Lad You know, Vonn's a guy
- 14:04Speaker 8: who didn't play organized baseball until he was eleven, and
- 14:08Speaker 8: you see some of these guys on these five you
- 14:10Speaker 8: travel teams.
- 14:11Speaker 3: It's the opposite of that.
- 14:13Speaker 8: So, you know, really excited our rooms, ecstatic about the
- 14:16Speaker 8: outcome there and can't be more excited that we've just
- 14:19Speaker 8: drafted Vonn.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Was the was it clear or what was then?
- 14:23Speaker 5: Certainly like that was ahead. Happened ahead of you guys.
- 14:26Speaker 8: Yeah, you wake up every morning on draft day and
- 14:28Speaker 8: you hear some rumblings.
- 14:30Speaker 5: You hear sometimes it's super quiet.
- 14:33Speaker 8: So we had more confidence probably that he was gonna
- 14:35Speaker 8: be the guy that made it to our pig. So
- 14:38Speaker 8: that was helpful and really exciting. Obviously, we like the
- 14:41Speaker 8: two players that went ahead, but you know, Vaughn is
- 14:44Speaker 8: an excellent outcome, and as far as our room's concerned, the.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Other two guys could.
- 14:51Speaker 1: All right, uh, catcher number three. Overall, there were three
- 14:57Speaker 1: players do at the at the top of the draft
- 14:59Speaker 1: that you were kind of rougher seeing it there in
- 15:00Speaker 1: the question. There was some uncertainty how that would go.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But the Twins, of course they're going to say they're
- 15:06Speaker 1: happy with how it went. But it seems like Lackie
- 15:09Speaker 1: was a guy that was pretty much zeroed in on
- 15:11Speaker 1: from the start, is probably going to be there at
- 15:13Speaker 1: three and probably a very realistic selection. Yeah, Baseball is
- 15:19Speaker 1: not draft for need the way the NFL is, Like
- 15:22Speaker 1: you go in the draft, you need an offensive linemen,
- 15:25Speaker 1: come in next year and start with baseball because the
- 15:29Speaker 1: time it takes.
- 15:29Speaker 2: For prospects to reach the majors, you can't just draft
- 15:32Speaker 2: for need. The Twins do need catching help, and they
- 15:36Speaker 2: were able to draft for need, but do it with
- 15:38Speaker 2: hoping to get impact talent in von Lackey. Here Also,
- 15:42Speaker 2: they drafted Carson Tinney out of the University of Texas
- 15:44Speaker 2: with the forty third pick, another catcher, and so it's
- 15:48Speaker 2: crazy the Twins had not drafted a catch very high
- 15:50Speaker 2: for a long time Ryan Jeffers in twenty eighteen.
- 15:54Speaker 3: They grabbed him in the second round.
- 15:55Speaker 2: It had been a while and they felt like they'd
- 15:57Speaker 2: been shut out on that front, and when they had
- 16:00Speaker 2: a chance to draft, they saw it, they took it.
- 16:03Speaker 2: They didn't want to get shut out again. They just
- 16:04Speaker 2: said these guys fell to them. But von Lackey looked
- 16:07Speaker 2: super athletic. Thirty four stone bases in college over three years.
- 16:12Speaker 2: One game in March he played every position but pitcher,
- 16:16Speaker 2: so he can move around, but obviously his his value
- 16:20Speaker 2: is if he stay as a catcher. And this is
- 16:22Speaker 2: a guy that had a really good sophomore season. He
- 16:25Speaker 2: had like nine to twenty one ops, hit three forty seven,
- 16:28Speaker 2: but at the time only hit six home runs and
- 16:31Speaker 2: worked on launch agle specifically going into his junior year.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Was willing to accept. He said, missus being in the
- 16:39Speaker 2: air versus on the ground as they had been in
- 16:41Speaker 2: the past, and turns around hits a twenty home run season,
- 16:45Speaker 2: his ops shot up to twelve ninety one. Georgia Techs
- 16:48Speaker 2: offense as a whole was great. Burists the outfielder also
- 16:51Speaker 2: was part of that group, but von Lacky was clearly
- 16:54Speaker 2: the guy and the Twins are very hyped about getting him.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I think when you look at the group, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 2: if Rock Chilowski, by the way.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Chilaoski, Rob Man, if you need some tough Rock Chilowski.
- 17:11Speaker 1: How did he say it?
- 17:12Speaker 2: I thought, I thought he said, he said, Chiluski. It's
- 17:16Speaker 2: like he went to double he went to Taco Bell
- 17:19Speaker 2: late night and got a double decker Taco Supremian at Chiloopa.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Uh, good job commission, just nailing the first name at
- 17:28Speaker 3: the draft that.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I hope they go back and tape that again, so
- 17:32Speaker 2: that like the video from now on? When could you
- 17:35Speaker 2: imagine and Rock Chilawski gets in the Hall of Fame
- 17:38Speaker 2: and they play his hype video and d video exists
- 17:42Speaker 2: twenty five years later. He said, Rock Chialuski. Oh Man, Anyways,
- 17:47Speaker 2: enough of that. I think if Chilawski, Greg Emerson or
- 17:51Speaker 2: von Lackey was there, the Twins were very excited about it.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Obviously they knew all three were gonna be there.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Lackie's the guy though that that kind of put himself
- 18:00Speaker 2: in the group the most this year, going back in December,
- 18:04Speaker 2: when the Twins got the third spot in the lottery,
- 18:07Speaker 2: they were Chilowski was the number one on the board
- 18:11Speaker 2: at the time. Brady Emerson was a known quantity having
- 18:13Speaker 2: played for teamsa four times and then he went out
- 18:16Speaker 2: and put together this great high school season at a
- 18:19Speaker 2: smaller school. But any of those guys would have been sufficient.
- 18:23Speaker 2: But now they get a catcher and Ryan Jeffers is
- 18:26Speaker 2: a free agent after this year. They have struggled to
- 18:31Speaker 2: secure catching depth in recent years. They spent three and
- 18:35Speaker 2: thirty on Christian Vosquez a couple of years ago. They
- 18:37Speaker 2: spent two and fourteen on Vic Carratini going into this season.
- 18:42Speaker 3: So I think they would love.
- 18:43Speaker 2: If they had some homegrown catchers, and we saw them
- 18:45Speaker 2: focus on it at the deadline last year. You know,
- 18:48Speaker 2: they got Tay from the Phillies and the Joan Durant trade.
- 18:52Speaker 2: They got Jimenez from the Tigers in the Chris Paddock trade.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Those two guys are at high a Cedar Rapids right now.
- 19:00Speaker 2: But it's clear that the focus is, Hey, we'd love
- 19:03Speaker 2: to develop some more catching on our own and not
- 19:05Speaker 2: be relying on free agency and go out and do that.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Because they had to trade, you know, a guy and
- 19:10Speaker 2: Peyton Eels this year for also to go out and
- 19:14Speaker 2: grab a.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Sorry Alex Jackson.
- 19:17Speaker 2: So there's been a it's been interesting how they drafted
- 19:22Speaker 2: and then they went.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Pitcher heavy the rest of the way.
- 19:25Speaker 2: But I think Lackey, you know, I don't know, we
- 19:28Speaker 2: see college guys gets the majors.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Fast catcher is a pretty tricky position. But you know,
- 19:35Speaker 3: maybe he's a two year guy and he could be here.
- 19:38Speaker 2: He just turned twenty one last week. But there's no
- 19:41Speaker 2: question the athleticism is there. And you know, the Twins
- 19:44Speaker 2: have fared pretty well drafting athletic catchers the last time
- 19:47Speaker 2: in the first high in the first round. The last
- 19:49Speaker 2: time they drafted an athletic catcher high in the first round.
- 19:54Speaker 3: You know, Joe Mauer in two thousand and one was
- 19:55Speaker 3: the number one pick. I think he did okay, I
- 19:58Speaker 3: can't remember how it panned out.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But you can voluntary quarterback too though, that's you know,
- 20:03Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Yeah, everything, Tyler, Like, what
- 20:11Speaker 1: uh is it about baseball that makes that pathway from
- 20:16Speaker 1: draft to the pros so much longer than it is
- 20:20Speaker 1: usually for NFL or basketball?
- 20:22Speaker 4: It's just development, Like you know, the one that comes
- 20:25Speaker 4: to mind with catching especially is a lot of these
- 20:28Speaker 4: guys don't even get to call their own games anymore.
- 20:30Speaker 5: It's all on a wristband.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Coming from the dugout, you know, learning game calling, you know,
- 20:35Speaker 4: managing games like they're they're getting the reps and the
- 20:38Speaker 4: practice and all the things, you know, as far as
- 20:41Speaker 4: the I call it like the showcase skills, like guys
- 20:43Speaker 4: are going to hit for power, they're going to throw
- 20:45Speaker 4: to second base, well, things like that. But it's the
- 20:48Speaker 4: the game calling and the smaller pieces that you've got
- 20:52Speaker 4: to get right, uh, you know, having the heads up
- 20:55Speaker 4: decisions to you know, the back picks or calling the
- 20:58Speaker 4: steel or the slide steps. It's little things that you
- 21:02Speaker 4: just have to get game speed reps that now you know,
- 21:06Speaker 4: when he shows up, I'm sure he'll go to low Ay.
- 21:08Speaker 5: You know, they got rid of rookie ball.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I guess now, I don't even know what exactly league
- 21:12Speaker 4: it is, but the game just gets a little bit faster.
- 21:15Speaker 3: You know.
- 21:15Speaker 4: The hitting, he'll probably fine because hitting everything in college
- 21:19Speaker 4: is basically it's close, you know, as far as vlo
- 21:22Speaker 4: and everything else.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Execution is different.
- 21:25Speaker 4: But it's all the smaller, you know, fastest of the
- 21:28Speaker 4: game that you know that you just have to really
- 21:31Speaker 4: sharpen your skills. And you know I speak on I
- 21:35Speaker 4: don't know Vonn obviously, but like I said, most coaches
- 21:38Speaker 4: now in college it's coming from the dugout. You know,
- 21:41Speaker 4: nothing is on their own anymore, and it's it's not
- 21:44Speaker 4: helping these guys because they're having to learn a lot
- 21:47Speaker 4: very quickly, and especially like him, he's coming out of college,
- 21:50Speaker 4: they're gonna want him to develop fast, and you just
- 21:53Speaker 4: hope that, you know, there's a great plan in place
- 21:55Speaker 4: for him. You know, pitching, like myself, if you've got
- 21:59Speaker 4: good stuff, you can kind of just show up and
- 22:01Speaker 4: keep going.
- 22:01Speaker 5: You know, you learn how to manage games.
- 22:03Speaker 4: You know, throw certain pitches when you need fly balls
- 22:06Speaker 4: or ground ball, you know, looking in the on deck circle,
- 22:09Speaker 4: seeing who's coming up, maybe walk a guy or pitch
- 22:11Speaker 4: around him. Like it's just little things that you know,
- 22:14Speaker 4: you could go on forever about that. He's just going
- 22:16Speaker 4: to learn, hopefully quickly, and contribute fast, because it sounds
- 22:19Speaker 4: like the bat could be ready quickly. It's just whether
- 22:22Speaker 4: you can put him behind that plate for however many
- 22:25Speaker 4: games you want him every year, and it's going to
- 22:27Speaker 4: work out.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Well.
- 22:30Speaker 1: We shall see somewhere down the line with Von Lackey
- 22:33Speaker 1: newest Minnesota Twin also worth mentioning they drafted a guy
- 22:36Speaker 1: named Steele Murdoch just want to I just want to, like,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you know what I'm looking for.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Sounds like a guy that should have been in that
- 22:43Speaker 2: ae W wrestling match they had after the game on
- 22:47Speaker 2: him Steal Murdoch, you know, like, Uh, bring him out
- 22:53Speaker 2: and have him That was wild by the last breaking
- 22:56Speaker 2: and the lightning talk about that. They had about five
- 23:00Speaker 2: wrestling matches. The owner of the Jaguars, his son runs
- 23:04Speaker 2: ae W and Daniel Adler, who works for the Twins
- 23:08Speaker 2: and is one of their assistant GMS.
- 23:11Speaker 3: He used to work for the Jaguars.
- 23:13Speaker 2: In fact, he was on the headset with Gus Bradley
- 23:16Speaker 2: and Daniel Adler would be the guy calling in the one.
- 23:20Speaker 2: He was like the time management guy, but also like suggesting, Hey,
- 23:24Speaker 2: it's fourth and two. There's like a sixty percent chance
- 23:27Speaker 2: we are fourth and two. We're going for it. We're
- 23:29Speaker 2: going for it, like he was the analytics guy. Anyways,
- 23:32Speaker 2: he worked with the owner's the owner's son to bring
- 23:37Speaker 2: aw wrestling out to target Field for that it was
- 23:42Speaker 2: so weird man, I tweeted some pictures from him the
- 23:45Speaker 2: other day, just to see a wrestling ring and right field,
- 23:48Speaker 2: and I went out and checked it out real quick.
- 23:50Speaker 3: But it was packed.
- 23:51Speaker 2: There were probably a couple thousand people, three thousand people
- 23:54Speaker 2: watching it upper deck, truly deck where the the like
- 23:58Speaker 2: luxury club is, and then people in the right field corner.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I mean it was it was jam packed. So it
- 24:03Speaker 3: was pretty funny.
- 24:04Speaker 1: They set it up back there, like in right field
- 24:07Speaker 1: behind the gate.
- 24:08Speaker 2: They did in that gate thirty four Yeah, okay, And
- 24:11Speaker 2: I mean people were very much into it.
- 24:13Speaker 3: And you know, I've never I've never done wrestling a
- 24:16Speaker 3: wrestling match before like that.
- 24:18Speaker 2: I've been to MMA, I've been to some UFC fights,
- 24:21Speaker 2: but a similarly hyped crowd, you know. And and they
- 24:25Speaker 2: stuck there was the biggest crowd of the weekend was
- 24:28Speaker 2: Friday night and at least three four thousand people stuck
- 24:30Speaker 2: around for that.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I don't know how to segue out of that, so
- 24:35Speaker 1: I'll just say it's time for daily to.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Injuries or wrestling with your emotions.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Wrestling with my emotions. Yes, that's it. Hey, baseball fans.
- 24:46Speaker 1: The MLB season is in full swing. It's taking a
- 24:49Speaker 1: little pause, but that's okay, And fan Duel is giving
- 24:51Speaker 1: you a chance to call your shot with Daily Dingers
- 24:53Speaker 1: joining joining? Why do I keep struggling with the word joining?
- 24:56Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Joining The action is easy. Just make your free pay
- 25:00Speaker 1: on who's hitting a home run in their game, and
- 25:01Speaker 1: if you're right, you'll get a profit boost to use
- 25:04Speaker 1: on your next bet for a chance at extra winnings.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It's just another reason why fan Duel is the home
- 25:09Speaker 1: of home runs. So we have this Daily Dinger segment, guys,
- 25:15Speaker 1: but we have no game until Friday. I don't think.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure you can't actually pick the home run
- 25:24Speaker 1: derby in Daily Dingers.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Let's go out of it. Let's let's just have some
- 25:29Speaker 2: fun here and make our picks for the home run derby.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Sounds great, and that sounds great. Who's in the home
- 25:34Speaker 1: run derby? That's my first question.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Bryce Harper is, Kyle Schwarber is, Let's see.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Junior Caminero, Ben Brice, Wilson, Contreras, Jordan Walker, Munataka Murakami
- 25:51Speaker 1: and Jack Kagliononi. Did I say that one?
- 25:53Speaker 3: Right? All right?
- 25:59Speaker 1: Dan? Your idea? Who you got?
- 26:02Speaker 3: Wow? Okay, I'll get you. I want to go with
- 26:04Speaker 3: the hometown guy. I mean, I'm gonna leave.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I want to leave the layup to you guys, and
- 26:09Speaker 2: if one of you doesn't take Schwarbur, I'm gonna be
- 26:12Speaker 2: extremely pissed.
- 26:14Speaker 3: But I'm gonna go.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Junior Caminaro, the runner up last year, won because he's
- 26:19Speaker 2: young and has the strength, and he's done it and
- 26:22Speaker 2: uh knows how to do it and put on.
- 26:24Speaker 3: An amazing, amazing show last year. He gets it done
- 26:27Speaker 3: this year. Junior A right.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Tyler is a tough one.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I'm imagining how cool it would be to have the
- 26:35Speaker 4: showdown be between Harper and Schwarber.
- 26:38Speaker 5: To finish like that would be electric. You know that
- 26:40Speaker 5: city would city would.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Be on fire after that. Either way it goes, I
- 26:45Speaker 4: don't know. I guess I gotta take the I'm gonna
- 26:48Speaker 4: go Shwarber's He's got that short compact swing. He ain't
- 26:51Speaker 4: gonna run out of gas. He's just gonna send see
- 26:54Speaker 4: how many people you can give a concussion out and bright.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Field all right, I'm gonna go off book and say
- 27:02Speaker 1: Jordan Walker it's my pick too, because just because I
- 27:08Speaker 1: remember him slaughtering the balls against the Twins.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Dude, he's got a pretty swing.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think he hit third deck, and if
- 27:15Speaker 2: he didn't hit third deck, he was really close at
- 27:18Speaker 2: target field.
- 27:19Speaker 3: But he's got a really pretty swing.
- 27:21Speaker 2: And duff, if you want that final, all that Rob
- 27:25Speaker 2: has to do is call in the FIFA officials and
- 27:28Speaker 2: they will help us set it up and get us
- 27:30Speaker 2: Schwarber versus Harper. Well, they'll find some extra home runs
- 27:33Speaker 2: for one of them.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Everybody else will get the squish balls, and then Schwarver
- 27:37Speaker 4: and Harper can get the twenty nineteen balls.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Yeah, there, you exactly exactly.
- 27:46Speaker 1: We shall see every time the home run door he
- 27:48Speaker 1: comes around. I think about the year that more And won,
- 27:52Speaker 1: but everybody was pissed because Josh Hamilton put on that
- 27:56Speaker 1: on the whole show but just got tired and didn't
- 27:59Speaker 1: win the final. But it yeah, it was just everybody
- 28:03Speaker 1: gushing about Hamilton, like he didn't win.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Hamilton won it, right exactly. Uh there.
- 28:08Speaker 2: It's always funny guys put on some incredible like second
- 28:12Speaker 2: rounds and then they run out of gas.
- 28:14Speaker 3: In that third round, but you see some amazing displace.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I still remember the Ken Griffey Junior at Camden Yards,
- 28:20Speaker 2: and I think that was ninety three or ninety four
- 28:23Speaker 2: where he just it was so much fun. That's when
- 28:27Speaker 2: Home Run Derby was like still peak.
- 28:31Speaker 3: It didn't run.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Electric they were and now this feels like we have
- 28:38Speaker 2: like there's just so all these different rules that they incorporate,
- 28:41Speaker 2: and they changed the format multiple times, and it's like,
- 28:44Speaker 2: so I think this year is the number of pitches total,
- 28:48Speaker 2: or maybe it's outs total.
- 28:49Speaker 3: I don't know. If it's outs, that's cool.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Do you guys remember that old Home Run Derby show,
- 28:54Speaker 2: the television show where it'd be like Duke Snyder takes
- 28:57Speaker 2: on Willie Mays and you'd see old reruns on ESPN,
- 29:01Speaker 2: like I remember growing up and see him when you
- 29:02Speaker 2: come home and and that show would be on and
- 29:05Speaker 2: you get nine innings of three outs for each guy,
- 29:08Speaker 2: and then they'd have these wholesome interviews with the play
- 29:12Speaker 2: by play man in between innings.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Like, boy, Willie, you really got that one? You really
- 29:17Speaker 3: got going? Yeah, Bob, you know, I just found my
- 29:19Speaker 3: groove this inning. It was.
- 29:22Speaker 2: It was an awesome TV show that, like Home Run
- 29:25Speaker 2: Derby is times you never know that would hey, that
- 29:29Speaker 2: would be cool with retired guys, you know, get Barry
- 29:32Speaker 2: Bonds out there, get Jose Canseco, who I'm still sure
- 29:35Speaker 2: could be show the White.
- 29:37Speaker 5: So Place yesterday.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Was he in that home run baby for the White Sox?
- 29:42Speaker 4: Yeah, Daniel Paulka posted about it, and so I was like,
- 29:44Speaker 4: what is going on? And then I saw the picture.
- 29:46Speaker 4: It's like Larry Garcia Paulka and then it's like jose
- 29:50Speaker 4: Canseco over there. I was like, what the hell is
- 29:52Speaker 4: going on?
- 29:54Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Gordon Beckham was the runner up. I
- 29:58Speaker 2: think I saw that he still looks like he could play.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a cool idea.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Twins did a home run a softball home run derby
- 30:05Speaker 2: a couple of years ago with a bunch of the guys.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I remember that, and uh, you know, I think ploof
- 30:11Speaker 2: on that shocker. But you know, those fan events.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Can be pretty cool. And uh, I'm you know what.
- 30:18Speaker 2: No matter what, having two hometown guys in the home
- 30:21Speaker 2: run derby in Philly, that will be a pretty.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Yeah, that's gonna be cool.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Well, all I can say is head over to FanDuel

- 31:04Speaker 1: Other news of note from the weekend, The Twins perhaps
- 31:08Speaker 1: started the buying process. We talked on Friday about Tom
- 31:11Speaker 1: Polad's comments about how this team needs to be invested in,
- 31:15Speaker 1: not torn down, and the Twins maybe took their first
- 31:18Speaker 1: step in that direction trading for reliever Tommy Nance, who
- 31:22Speaker 1: came over in a deal for catching prospect after we
- 31:26Speaker 1: just got done talking about the Twins trying to get
- 31:28Speaker 1: more homegrown catchers Ryan Sprock on the way out, Tommy
- 31:32Speaker 1: Nance and some international bonus money in Nance actually pitched
- 31:36Speaker 1: on Saturday and got the win. More on that in
- 31:38Speaker 1: a minute, but Dan the first step in that direction,
- 31:41Speaker 1: it seems for the Twins trying to bolster the bullpen.
- 31:45Speaker 2: This is definitely a low wattage move. It's not gonna
- 31:48Speaker 2: grab headlines. But Nance has more strikeouts than innings. He's
- 31:52Speaker 2: got a one hundred and sixty major league innings. He's
- 31:55Speaker 2: been a journeyman, pitched for the Cubs at one point
- 31:58Speaker 2: the last couple of years for the Blue Jay. But
- 32:02Speaker 2: in the clubhouse it played well because we got Byron
- 32:04Speaker 2: Buckston on Saturday. We hadn't really talked to him since
- 32:08Speaker 2: he went on the IL made the decision to skip
- 32:11Speaker 2: the All Star Game, which he, by the way, said
- 32:14Speaker 2: winning here is more important.
- 32:16Speaker 3: It wasn't a big deal. He's played in two All
- 32:18Speaker 3: Star Games, so I think the novelty of that is off.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And beyond that, he's got voted in as the starter
- 32:24Speaker 2: this year, so he got his flowers from the national
- 32:27Speaker 2: fan face and I think basically he's okay sitting it out.
- 32:32Speaker 2: But the one thing that struck me was Byron Buckson
- 32:35Speaker 2: said that both he and Royce were excited by the
- 32:37Speaker 2: trader for Tommy Nantz because this is a guy that
- 32:40Speaker 2: you know, not a lot of people have heard of.
- 32:42Speaker 2: They knew who he was, and they said they were excited.
- 32:44Speaker 2: They never have to face him again. So it's a
- 32:47Speaker 2: guy he's been a starter, so he has four pitches
- 32:49Speaker 2: and can mix it up.
- 32:51Speaker 3: His first one was a little rough.
- 32:53Speaker 2: There's a fly ball in front of Trevor Larnock that
- 32:55Speaker 2: if Austin Martin's playing, maybe gets caught, and it fell
- 32:59Speaker 2: in and led.
- 33:00Speaker 3: To a game time single.
- 33:02Speaker 2: But you know, he was the first guy they hope
- 33:07Speaker 2: of a few more to add to the bullpen along
- 33:09Speaker 2: with you know, they added Go last week and we
- 33:11Speaker 2: saw both those guys pitch Saturday, and that's where the
- 33:14Speaker 2: Twins are brand new to the team. Doesn't matter, as
- 33:17Speaker 2: Derek Shelton said, Usuk Go has been a closer in Korea,
- 33:23Speaker 2: so he's at least used to big.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Moments and right now they're gonna get tried out.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So the Twins, I would have to think, are hoping
- 33:30Speaker 2: they'll get some more guys, some more arms in that
- 33:33Speaker 2: bullpen to kind of build things out and bridge it
- 33:37Speaker 2: to Andrew Morris and Juandros Gomez, who were big finds
- 33:40Speaker 2: in the first half. So it's a start and you know,
- 33:45Speaker 2: who knows where it goes from here. But certainly, like
- 33:48Speaker 2: fire and Buckson said, you feel excited because it feels
- 33:51Speaker 2: like they're at least doing something.
- 33:53Speaker 3: So that's good to know. How it played.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's definitely been the spirit of the team in general,
- 33:59Speaker 1: just get out there and play. Yeah, I need you
- 34:03Speaker 1: in center field today, I need you in shortstop. Like
- 34:06Speaker 1: I think they showed a graphic on the broadcast yesterday
- 34:08Speaker 1: of the opening day defense versus how it looks now
- 34:13Speaker 1: and totally totally different. But Tyler, we talked about how
- 34:18Speaker 1: it feels as a player to hear your owner talk
- 34:20Speaker 1: about adding but then once it starts happening, that has
- 34:23Speaker 1: to feel a little bit extra, a little extra nice.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Yeah, it's cool. And you know, we talked about pull
- 34:30Speaker 5: at it. You know, it is.
- 34:31Speaker 4: It's a lower blottage move to quote Dan there, but
- 34:35Speaker 4: it's a move that is a guy honestly, is probably
- 34:38Speaker 4: one of those underlying you know, the stats are good,
- 34:41Speaker 4: but he was pitching whatever innings, wherever he was, and
- 34:45Speaker 4: they're gonna say, hey, Bud, here's some leverage.
- 34:48Speaker 5: You know, here's an opportunity.
- 34:49Speaker 4: He's got a lot of the spin, which I know
- 34:52Speaker 4: the Twins have always liked, especially if you have some
- 34:54Speaker 4: Vila with it, you know, and he was I think
- 34:56Speaker 4: he's up to ninety five ninety six with two different
- 34:59Speaker 4: breaking balls. So that's probably why Royce and Buck didn't
- 35:02Speaker 4: like facing them too much. But it's it's moves that
- 35:06Speaker 4: make you know, positive changes, you know, and that's.
- 35:08Speaker 5: All anybody can want. You've got guys.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Settling in, you know, and it's been all hands on
- 35:14Speaker 4: deck all year and it's guys are are thriving in
- 35:17Speaker 4: some of these roles, and I think it's going to
- 35:19Speaker 4: make decisions now easier for Chelsea and the pitching staff
- 35:23Speaker 4: to to, you know, bridge together these games. You know,
- 35:26Speaker 4: you you've got two to three starters that you can
- 35:29Speaker 4: kind of mark down and pen for what's going to
- 35:31Speaker 4: happen and the others you're not sure. And now that
- 35:34Speaker 4: you can start writing some names in that bullpen and
- 35:36Speaker 4: pen like that creates stability and that's all anyone wants
- 35:40Speaker 4: in any aspect of life. But in a baseball game,
- 35:43Speaker 4: you know, you got to that bullpen, you know, in
- 35:45Speaker 4: the eighth or ninth like it's going to be Morris,
- 35:47Speaker 4: It's it's gonna be Gomez and company. Uh, It's it's
- 35:51Speaker 4: good things. It's it's setting concrete pieces that you know
- 35:54Speaker 4: are going to be reliable for you. And it's definitely
- 35:58Speaker 4: it's exciting even for me doing this show, thinking about like, Okay,
- 36:02Speaker 4: who's the next move going to be. You know, what,
- 36:04Speaker 4: what are we going to get? So it definitely gets
- 36:06Speaker 4: the ears perked up. I'm sure it gets the fans
- 36:08Speaker 4: a little, you know, Okay, what's next? You know they
- 36:11Speaker 4: might start asking for more, that's the only problem. But
- 36:14Speaker 4: at least you know, within days of talking about spending
- 36:17Speaker 4: some money, we actually went out and did something.
- 36:20Speaker 5: And that's all you can ask for work. I was
- 36:22Speaker 5: wondering if that was a child.
- 36:26Speaker 2: There's a screaming child in the backgrounds very opinion.
- 36:32Speaker 4: It's gonna work out well, all right, even though he
- 36:36Speaker 4: vultured the wind, you know, Zach, But you know, he
- 36:39Speaker 4: came in and did the job.
- 36:41Speaker 1: All of our kids like to like to make cameos
- 36:43Speaker 1: on the show. Yes, Tommy Nance did did vulture the win.
- 36:47Speaker 1: On Saturday, Joe Ryan left after six innings with a
- 36:50Speaker 1: three to two lead. Nance gave gave up the run
- 36:53Speaker 1: Twins score at bottom of the seventh win to Tommy Nance.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I'm sure the Twins will take it and maybe.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Wait, wait, wait that fire you up a little bit, Zach,
- 37:01Speaker 2: that Tommy Nance got the victory there.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I hate the rule. It's not Tommy Nance's fault. I
- 37:06Speaker 1: want to be you thought I was gonna shred Tommy nance.
- 37:10Speaker 1: It's not his fault. But I don't think that should
- 37:13Speaker 1: be a win. I don't know. I don't know who
- 37:15Speaker 1: should get it.
- 37:15Speaker 5: But no, I think it might be a snake.
- 37:22Speaker 4: There's vultures when it's like just the blowout and one
- 37:24Speaker 4: guy just gets it. Because but the snake, I think
- 37:28Speaker 4: is the that situation if I remember correctly, because he because.
- 37:35Speaker 1: That would be a that's a blown save, right, I
- 37:37Speaker 1: mean it was.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Yeah, like it's a bad day, right, yeah, so bad day,
- 37:40Speaker 4: but got the wind, you.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Know, right.
- 37:43Speaker 2: No, My favorite was I remember David Robertson came in
- 37:47Speaker 2: when he was pitching for the White Sox, and it
- 37:50Speaker 2: was he had he was not great on the third
- 37:53Speaker 2: day in a row. And you know, we don't see
- 37:55Speaker 2: a lot of guys doing three days in a row anymore.
- 37:57Speaker 2: But he came in on the third day and gave
- 37:59Speaker 2: up like two or three solo bombs and it went
- 38:03Speaker 2: from like a Chris Sale three nothing victory to them
- 38:06Speaker 2: having to win in the bottom of the ninth and
- 38:09Speaker 2: I tweeted out Dave Robertson earns the victory, and it
- 38:11Speaker 2: pissed off so many fans.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Oh Lord, all right, we'll wrap up the first half
- 38:21Speaker 1: of our show from this season with a segment that
- 38:24Speaker 1: was Dan's idea. So I'm going to make him go first.
- 38:27Speaker 1: We're all going to say one thing we liked about
- 38:28Speaker 1: the Twins' first half. Take it away, Dan, what did
- 38:31Speaker 1: you like about.
- 38:34Speaker 2: They had open tryouts for the bullpen? There was nothing
- 38:38Speaker 2: functional about not functional. There was nothing set in stone
- 38:41Speaker 2: about this group. In March, Liam Hendricks and Andrew Chafin
- 38:46Speaker 2: were hopefully going to be part of it, and Liam Hendrick's,
- 38:51Speaker 2: you know, experience was got maybe win him the job.
- 38:55Speaker 3: They brought in.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Taylor Rogers, so the three guys who were the most experienced.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Taylor Rodgers has still had some pretty good moments for
- 39:02Speaker 2: this club. He's also had some rough ones at times too.
- 39:05Speaker 2: You know, the loss in Pittsburgh was stinging, the walk off,
- 39:09Speaker 2: But he like he's been the only one of those
- 39:12Speaker 2: three that's contributed to this bullpen. And yet here they
- 39:14Speaker 2: are forty eight and forty nine at the break, having
- 39:17Speaker 2: traded five guys last year, including Louis Varland. Would be
- 39:21Speaker 2: is an All Star? Joan Durant Is he an All Star?
- 39:24Speaker 2: If he's not, he's having a great season. Griffin Jackson
- 39:28Speaker 2: has been converted to a starter in Tampa, but he's
- 39:30Speaker 2: having a good year too. You traded away all that
- 39:33Speaker 2: certainty last year. You came in with basically hoping things
- 39:36Speaker 2: would pan out. And I love what I've seen from
- 39:40Speaker 2: jo Andris Gomez coming in and just being a guy
- 39:43Speaker 2: off of a waiver claim or I'm sorry, acquired for
- 39:46Speaker 2: cash in late April or early May, wherever that trade was.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Andrew Morris starting.
- 39:53Speaker 2: To rely on the cutter because the sweeper early on
- 39:56Speaker 2: wasn't getting in the strikes they wanted, and so pairing
- 39:59Speaker 2: the with the ninety eight to one hundred mile prior fastball,
- 40:03Speaker 2: it has become a guy. And suddenly they have two
- 40:07Speaker 2: guys in the back of the bullpen right now. And
- 40:10Speaker 2: when you have those two guys who are some certainty
- 40:13Speaker 2: for you, it makes it easier to build the rest
- 40:16Speaker 2: in and it gives Derek Shelton some comfort knowing if
- 40:19Speaker 2: we lead after seven, we got a shot. Andrew Morris
- 40:22Speaker 2: on Sunday was outstanding, going two innings as a long outing.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Mike Greatest really was on the verge of coming in
- 40:28Speaker 2: because Morris was on his thirty fifth pitch, but you know,
- 40:33Speaker 2: just seeing what this team has managed to do with
- 40:36Speaker 2: where the bullpen was has been definitely a plus, because man,
- 40:41Speaker 2: they really had nothing certain going into the season.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Tyler, I'm gonna try and stick to one because all
- 40:50Speaker 4: these things are going through.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Because Dan just said seven.
- 40:53Speaker 4: I'm trying to make it a concise point of like,
- 40:56Speaker 4: guys kind of maximizing some opportunities between three that come
- 41:01Speaker 4: to mind immediately, or Clemens Bell and Larnick. You know, Larnick,
- 41:05Speaker 4: people were all up in arms that we kept him.
- 41:08Speaker 4: You know, they're worried about it, things like that. He's
- 41:11Speaker 4: our leadoff hitter as far as I'm concerned at this point,
- 41:13Speaker 4: he's I don't know what the exact numbers were, they're
- 41:15Speaker 4: talking about it on air, but he's done great in
- 41:18Speaker 4: that spot. He has kind of become a cornerstone at
- 41:21Speaker 4: the top of the order. Bell all season has contributed
- 41:24Speaker 4: two out hits. Like I talked about earlier, it's it
- 41:27Speaker 4: seemed like for a few weeks stretched there, he was
- 41:30Speaker 4: just pepper in the outfield with baseball's when runners were
- 41:32Speaker 4: in scoring position, and.
- 41:34Speaker 5: It's a huge reason why we're where we are.
- 41:36Speaker 4: And then Clemens Van it's just the clutch Homers, especially
- 41:39Speaker 4: when Pops is in town, have been you know, incredible
- 41:42Speaker 4: to watch, you know, some great defensive plays.
- 41:44Speaker 5: He's been all over the field.
- 41:46Speaker 4: I think those particular, you know, even Kroteni for that matter,
- 41:49Speaker 4: comes to mind. It's guys that are getting a chance
- 41:51Speaker 4: to just play and they're taking advantage of it and
- 41:54Speaker 4: it's helping the team win.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Okay, I Dan just brung this on us, So I'm
- 42:01Speaker 1: trying to think of something that duplicative of what you
- 42:05Speaker 1: guys just said. But excuse me, I guess I'll use
- 42:09Speaker 1: Is it time for my solo camera shot? I'll need
- 42:12Speaker 1: some artist, need some art over on this side. Okay,
- 42:16Speaker 1: I I think it's for me. Like there's a handful
- 42:21Speaker 1: of teams that are within it was a bunch of
- 42:24Speaker 1: teams that are within a handful of games, I should say,
- 42:26Speaker 1: a five hundred one way or the other. A lot
- 42:29Speaker 1: of them are probably not happy about that, but it
- 42:31Speaker 1: feels like this team had a narrative coming into the season,
- 42:34Speaker 1: You're not going to be good. They had every excuse
- 42:37Speaker 1: in the book, and they still have a lot a
- 42:40Speaker 1: long way to go to maybe make the playoffs or whatever.
- 42:43Speaker 1: They're going to do this season. But the fact that
- 42:45Speaker 1: they have been like the fun kind of five hundred team,
- 42:49Speaker 1: the team that's playing together, playing hard, that the guys
- 42:54Speaker 1: stepping up, going everywhere or wherever they're needed on the field.
- 42:58Speaker 1: It's it's an easy team like for that for that reason,
- 43:01Speaker 1: like the you know, I think I've said this before,
- 43:04Speaker 1: but we Minnesota fans get accustomed to cheering for the
- 43:09Speaker 1: little guys who kind of punch above their weight, and
- 43:13Speaker 1: that's what they've been doing. If they can keep it up,
- 43:15Speaker 1: we'll see. But to to to have those vibes going
- 43:19Speaker 1: into season, to slump in May and get down to
- 43:22Speaker 1: eight games under five hundred and come back and be
- 43:25Speaker 1: in this position, it's been fun to watch. And we'll
- 43:28Speaker 1: see if they can keep it up. That's all I got.
- 43:33Speaker 1: How do I do like solo one kind of five Yeah, okay, yeah,
- 43:37Speaker 1: it is gonna work on the background, that's right. They
- 43:42Speaker 1: will try again. They'll try again to.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Get back to free in Minneapolis. The highway is.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Almost did you round up there? Then you should round
- 43:56Speaker 1: down then it would be four ninety four.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think it was here. Wait wait,
- 44:00Speaker 3: let me look.
- 44:04Speaker 1: All right, all right, there we go once again. If
