- 0:00Sean McAllister: It's.
- 0:00Sean McAllister: Episode 186 of Vegas Revealed.
- 0:03Sean McAllister: A cyber attack shuts down most IT operations for a major casino group.
- 0:08Sean McAllister: What we know and if your information could be at risk, then he's the man.
- 0:18Aloe Blacc: I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man.
- 0:21Dayna Roselli: Singer Aloe Blacc is our guest, why he's coming to town and why you should go see him, plus his take on Las Vegas and what he does when he visits.
- 0:30Aloe Blacc: I tell you, it's the shows.
- 0:31Aloe Blacc: You know, I'm not much of a gambler.
- 0:34Sean McAllister: And we attend Lady Gaga's Jazz and Piano Show at Park MGM.
- 0:38Sean McAllister: We also chat with her talented band leader, Brian Newman.
- 0:42Brian Newman: It's been amazing, you know, to be able to go from the stage with Gaga, the big stage, with a 30-piece orchestra with arrangements that me and my boys have written, you know, hear a band of that caliber play that kind of music right into our late night show with special guests and for less.
- 0:57Dayna Roselli: Plus some entertainment updates from George Strait to David Blaine.
- 1:02Sean McAllister: All that and a lot more this week on Vegas Revealed.
- 1:05Dayna Roselli: Let's spin that wheel.
- 1:15Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas.
- 1:15Sean McAllister: Revealed episode 186.
- 1:17Sean McAllister: I'm Sean McAllister here, along with Dayna Roselli and Dana.
- 1:20Sean McAllister: It has been quite the week here in Las Vegas.
- 1:24Dayna Roselli: Things just keep happening.
- 1:25Dayna Roselli: Every time we're all peaceful and settled.
- 1:27Dayna Roselli: You know, like we had that whole monsoon thing the weekend before.
- 1:29Dayna Roselli: It's like boom, busy weekend and busy week.
- 1:32Dayna Roselli: The week did not start off well for Las Vegas, well, really for MGM as a whole, because MGM obviously owns properties all across the country and this cybersecurity issue that happened has affected all the properties.
- 1:47Sean McAllister: Yeah, mgm Resorts International was impacted, is still being impacted, by what they're calling a cybersecurity issue, and it's something where almost immediately, as a preventative measure, they shut down most of the systems that are attached to online processes, which is pretty much everything we're talking.
- 2:11Sean McAllister: Credit cards, slot machines, reservations, even room keys are electronic now and connected to this network of information.
- 2:24Dayna Roselli: I just I feel for the staff.
- 2:26Dayna Roselli: I mean, I feel for the people that want to gamble and can't get in their room.
- 2:29Dayna Roselli: I feel bad for everyone.
- 2:31Dayna Roselli: It's a big issue and it affects everything, and it was so weird to go to their websites and look and like every single property in just MGM Resorts International as a whole.
- 2:41Dayna Roselli: Their main website was just you know, nope, call us.
- 2:44Dayna Roselli: We are not functioning at the moment and it lasted so long.
- 2:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, I mean reservations being taken by phone, the old way of doing things.
- 2:53Sean McAllister: You know.
- 2:54Sean McAllister: People were being referred to external websites to buy tickets for things like Golden Knights games, that kind of thing.
- 3:03Sean McAllister: Slowly, it seems as though, as of our record time, MGM Resorts have been able to start getting things back online, but at the moment, the FBI and the Nevada Gaming Control Board are investigating this issue.
- 3:22Sean McAllister: As of this moment, we've not heard who is responsible for this and we have not heard how widespread the issue is.
- 3:33Dayna Roselli: Right, and you know we are recording this actually very early in the week because we have some company coming in, so there are going to be changes.
- 3:40Dayna Roselli: This is not up to the minute information, but pay attention to our socials MGM socials to make sure that you have the very latest on what's happening.
- 3:49Dayna Roselli: My email was part of a breach recently I want to say like a year and a half, two years ago and it said it was from an MGM website.
- 3:57Dayna Roselli: So they gave me free identity protection for a year, which was great.
- 4:01Dayna Roselli: I haven't had any issues, but I'm sad to see something like this happen again.
- 4:04Dayna Roselli: And we are seeing online that people are noticing on their statements like different kinds of charges from their bet MGM, but like, are you at risk?
- 4:14Dayna Roselli: We don't know.
- 4:14Dayna Roselli: And of course again we're just seeing things like that on Twitter.
- 4:17Dayna Roselli: It doesn't mean that it's confirmed.
- 4:19Dayna Roselli: It could be someone just saying that I don't know.
- 4:21Sean McAllister: Well, their screenshots Right, and it's better to be safe than sorry at this point.
- 4:26Sean McAllister: If you are an MGM player, if you have stayed at an MGM property, if you are part of bet MGM, it's a good idea to go to your accounts, make sure everything looks okay, but also sign up for that monitoring service the identity theft monitoring and make sure that there are people out there looking out for you.
- 4:51Dayna Roselli: Yes, I hope that this is cleared up by the time our podcast drops, because it's a headache for everyone wanting to either enjoy their vacation, book their vacation and then, of course, for all the staff and employees at MGM.
- 5:04Dayna Roselli: What a mess.
- 5:06Sean McAllister: Yeah, although it seems like it is a very broad issue impacting all of MGM resorts properties across the country, not just here in Las Vegas.
- 5:15Sean McAllister: So, yeah, we hope that the damage is minimized.
- 5:19Sean McAllister: The impact is small, that is the hope.
- 5:23Dayna Roselli: Yes, All right.
- 5:24Dayna Roselli: Well, before we continue on, we got a lot more to talk about.
- 5:26Dayna Roselli: We just want to quickly thank our sponsors.
- 5:28Dayna Roselli: Hot Works Infrared Fitness Studios.
- 5:30Dayna Roselli: I go there all the time.
- 5:31Dayna Roselli: Recently I did a post-shawn and I got a big response of people asking me a lot of questions.
- 5:35Dayna Roselli: So I like that.
- 5:36Dayna Roselli: Feel free to reach out and ask me questions.
- 5:38Dayna Roselli: But somebody said how hot is it in the infrared sauna?
- 5:42Dayna Roselli: And I was like, well, you control it, so you're not like locked down to anything.
- 5:46Dayna Roselli: I put it at 125 degrees because that's what they recommend.
- 5:49Dayna Roselli: But they say, if you can't handle it or you're starting out, just you know, put it lower.
- 5:54Dayna Roselli: It's all manual, you're not locked in and there's not a door that's going to close and lock you in and you're not allowed out.
- 6:01Dayna Roselli: This is all at your own pace.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: And I know you were on one of those foam rollers, foam rollers.
- 6:06Dayna Roselli: Oh, I love them.
- 6:07Dayna Roselli: From my back I hear it all crack.
- 6:08Dayna Roselli: It's great.
- 6:09Sean McAllister: That's one.
- 6:10Sean McAllister: Oh, I need that.
- 6:11Dayna Roselli: Stretch the legs, it breaks everything up.
- 6:13Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's really, really good.
- 6:14Sean McAllister: I need a Hot Works, hot Roller session or foam roller session in my life.
- 6:18Sean McAllister: You do Get this lower back pain out of there.
- 6:21Dayna Roselli: We have more information also coming up a little bit later in the podcast.
- 6:24Sean McAllister: Also, we want to thank Vegas Near Me.
- 6:26Sean McAllister: The only app you need for your Vegas visit, available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
- 6:32Sean McAllister: It is a concierge in your pocket.
- 6:35Sean McAllister: If it's fun to do or see, it is on Vegas Near Me.
- 6:39Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 6:40Dayna Roselli: All right, let's get to Ed Sheeran.
- 6:42Dayna Roselli: He just caused quite a ruckus on the weekend in Vegas.
- 6:46Dayna Roselli: Right, he was performing over at Allegiant Stadium.
- 6:48Dayna Roselli: I was excited.
- 6:49Dayna Roselli: I was actually thinking like, should I go see Ed?
- 6:51Dayna Roselli: I think he's really good.
- 6:53Sean McAllister: You were even looking up tickets.
- 6:54Dayna Roselli: I was and I was like should I, shouldn't, I, shouldn't I?
- 6:56Dayna Roselli: And then we were kind of busy, but anyway, he had a line of people waiting out side of a legion stadium and ended up canceling the show very last minute.
- 7:06Dayna Roselli: They couldn't let the crowds in because they were still kind of setting up the floor like the concert.
- 7:14Dayna Roselli: What do you call it?
- 7:14Aloe Blacc: The stage.
- 7:15Brian Newman: The stage and then the rigging and all that.
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: And the different.
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: He has these like towers, that kind of lean, I don't know.
- 7:20Dayna Roselli: They kind of look like almost like a guitar pick or something, but anyway.
- 7:23Dayna Roselli: So anyway, they were still setting that up and they needed to, you know, make sure that it was done right.
- 7:28Dayna Roselli: So people were waiting outside for a very long time.
- 7:31Dayna Roselli: It was a very hot day in here in Las Vegas, so that's where it all started.
- 7:34Dayna Roselli: People started sounding off like let us in.
- 7:37Sean McAllister: Yeah, well, and what ended up happening is it was a big safety issue and they could not let people in because, as that stage set up was going on, the staging was slipping on the floor inside Allegiant stadium, so it was a safety risk and they had to end up calling off the concert less than an hour before Ed Sheeran was set to take the stage and, of course, an entire arena full of people were waiting outside to get in.
- 8:08Sean McAllister: It was 100 degrees outside.
- 8:10Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 8:11Sean McAllister: And there wasn't really a ton of shade for people to shelter in.
- 8:15Dayna Roselli: No, and you know you have to the bag requirements.
- 8:18Dayna Roselli: You have to only bring like a little bag or wallet, so people don't bring bottles of water with them really, and you also don't think you're going to be waiting in line that long.
- 8:26Sean McAllister: Right.
- 8:26Dayna Roselli: So it really caused a lot of issues with you know people saying you know there's people feigning out here or people passing out, and I don't know to what extreme that that was.
- 8:35Dayna Roselli: Again, these are things that we hear on Twitter.
- 8:37Dayna Roselli: We talk about them, we report them, but we do not have complete confirmation.
- 8:42Dayna Roselli: I don't want to be like there's dozens of people that fainted.
- 8:45Sean McAllister: Exactly, if they didn't is my point.
- 8:46Dayna Roselli: You know we were.
- 8:47Dayna Roselli: It's hearsay, it's what people are saying, that we're in line.
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: I probably believe them, but anyway, yeah.
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: So we were just saying, you know, it might be a good idea to have maybe some more vendors out front, just in case some Gatorade, some water People said there was water, but then at one point it got it was little cups at warm, and then they were selling water.
- 9:08Dayna Roselli: I guess big bottles were like 10 bucks, but there was only like one area.
- 9:12Dayna Roselli: So you don't want to hop out of line, walk away.
- 9:14Dayna Roselli: So anyway, it was a big, it was a big mess.
- 9:17Dayna Roselli: Ed Sheeran moved to show to October 28th, though, so you can still go see him.
- 9:20Sean McAllister: Yes, so that is the update for Ed Sheeran.
- 9:24Dayna Roselli: Unfortunately, I know and you know, ed is just like people are sounding off on Ed.
- 9:28Dayna Roselli: I think people understand that, but it's safety, it has nothing to do.
- 9:31Dayna Roselli: He's the face of the show, right, it's his show.
- 9:33Sean McAllister: Well, he was there, he was ready to go on, he was ready.
- 9:35Sean McAllister: He was taking pictures with fans who were inside early for meet and greets.
- 9:39Sean McAllister: He even popped over and did a surprise for a couple who was getting married at one of the wedding chapels here in Las Vegas.
- 9:47Sean McAllister: So Ed was ready to go.
- 9:49Sean McAllister: But it was a safety issue with the staging that caused it, and when it's that kind of thing it's a no-go, it's a no-go and I was reading that he signed as a witness on that couple's.
- 9:58Aloe Blacc: Yeah, he did, and I love that.
- 10:00Aloe Blacc: Can you imagine that's great.
- 10:03Dayna Roselli: I hope they're fans of Ed Sheeran or like his music, you know.
- 10:05Sean McAllister: Well, they looked shocked the entire time that he was in there.
- 10:08Sean McAllister: The groom, the bride looked ecstatic and the groom looked like he had no idea what the hell was happening.
- 10:15Sean McAllister: It was kind of funny.
- 10:17Dayna Roselli: Yeah, Ed took advantage, and apparently he's singing a new song that's coming out soon, so he took a little moment to also promote that.
- 10:23Dayna Roselli: Well, good, yeah, good for Ed.
- 10:26Sean McAllister: Hey, we have news on David Blaine.
- 10:28Sean McAllister: You may recall he had his residency over at Resorts World.
- 10:33Sean McAllister: That came to a close, but David Blaine is coming back to Vegas.
- 10:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he's going to be over at the Encore Theater at the Win Las Vegas, a little bit smaller than the Resorts World Theater, so it's going to be more of an intimate show and it's called David Blaine Impossible.
- 10:48Dayna Roselli: We wondered what happened with the Resorts World show and then now we were talking we're like, but it was really good and I feel like he has a place here in Las Vegas for continued shows.
- 10:58Dayna Roselli: So we're glad to see he's going to be over at Encore.
- 11:01Dayna Roselli: I think the theater will obviously provide a very intimate experience like we mentioned and he's going to, you know, maybe change some things up, and I think it'll be great.
- 11:11Dayna Roselli: He's going to kick it off New Year's weekend, okay, so keep that in mind.
- 11:15Dayna Roselli: A bunch of shows that weekend, and then he has 12 dates announced through May 11th, so you have plenty of chances to see David Blaine over at Win Las Vegas.
- 11:26Sean McAllister: Old habits are hard to break, aren't they?
- 11:28Sean McAllister: Another entertainer who we become very familiar with here in Las Vegas is country icon George Strait.
- 11:37Sean McAllister: He had his Straight to Vegas residency for a long time over at T-Mobile Arena.
- 11:44Sean McAllister: That came to a close, but we just got word that he's coming back with a super-sized show.
- 11:50Sean McAllister: This one is a touring show, though.
- 11:53Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and he's going to be with Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town, so it sounds like it's going to be incredible.
- 11:58Dayna Roselli: George Strait's tickets go on sale September 22nd for the Allegiant Stadium show.
- 12:04Dayna Roselli: This show is not till December 7th of 2024, though, so keep that in mind, plan ahead.
- 12:09Sean McAllister: But he sells quick.
- 12:10Sean McAllister: Oh, he sold out every single show at T-Mobile Arena.
- 12:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's going to be great, and so if you want to get George tickets with Chris Stapleton with Little Big Town Straight to Vegas they're calling it like Times 10 at Allegiant Stadium Make sure you do that.
- 12:28Dayna Roselli: Tickets go on sale September 22nd.
- 12:30Sean McAllister: Yeah, that's going to be a great show, and aside from the stars that we see performing up and down the Las Vegas Strip in residency and touring shows, there are some other celebrity performances that kind of fly under the radar because these stars are performing at nonprofit and charity galas across Southern Nevada.
- 12:50Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 12:50Dayna Roselli: So there's one coming up on October 13th and it's the University Medical Center Foundation's Evening of Hope Gala.
- 12:57Dayna Roselli: This is the second year they're doing this and it's going to be anchored by the talents of Tony winner Adina Menzel and also Grammy nominated artist Aloe Blacc, who we just absolutely love.
- 13:07Dayna Roselli: So we said we got to get Alo on the phone.
- 13:09Dayna Roselli: Can we make it happen?
- 13:10Dayna Roselli: And we did.
- 13:11Sean McAllister: And we did so.
- 13:12Sean McAllister: We talked to Aloe Blacc about why he signed on to perform at this benefit show and his love for all things Vegas.
- 13:20Dayna Roselli: Hey Aloe, thanks for joining us.
- 13:22Aloe Blacc: Thank you, have a good day here.
- 13:24Dayna Roselli: Listen.
- 13:24Dayna Roselli: We were just listening to a few of your songs and thinking this guy needs a Vegas residency Bad.
- 13:31Aloe Blacc: We need a bad.
- 13:32Aloe Blacc: I would so love to do that.
- 13:35Aloe Blacc: The Vegas shows are my favorite, favorite part of going to Vegas.
- 13:40Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean, listen, you have just the charisma and the voice and the feel of what Vegas needs.
- 13:45Dayna Roselli: So we hope.
- 13:46Dayna Roselli: We hope to see you doing a permanent residency eventually, but for now, you're going to be in town for a very important cause.
- 13:54Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's the UMC Evening of Hope benefiting the UMC Children's Hospital.
- 14:00Sean McAllister: What do you have planned for this performance?
- 14:03Sean McAllister: And obviously it's such a big, important night for the Children's Hospital here too.
- 14:09Aloe Blacc: Absolutely Well.
- 14:09Aloe Blacc: For me, performing and entertaining is what I love and I want to make sure that the audience feels motivated, inspired, and they feel joy and they feel like their hearts can give a little bit more to this.
- 14:23Aloe Blacc: You know the critical, life saving care provided by UMC.
- 14:25Aloe Blacc: That's really what I want to make them dance, sing, clap their hands and empty their pockets, basically.
- 14:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah Well, listen, we do have so many, you know, headliners in Las Vegas, but it's nice to have talent hit the stage that you can't see currently every weekend on the strip.
- 14:41Dayna Roselli: So why did you take part in this?
- 14:43Dayna Roselli: Why did you decide to take part in this?
- 14:45Dayna Roselli: Is it something that's near and dear to your heart?
- 14:47Aloe Blacc: So, yeah, when I signed a deal, I knew that I wanted to use music for positive social transformation, any opportunity that I can get to sing, you know, in honor of the people who are doing great work for children, for communities, I'm going to be there.
- 15:03Sean McAllister: And, obviously, as an artist, being up on stage sharing your work, seeing the feedback from the audience while you're up there that's always a great thing, but is it even more special when there is a cause behind what you're doing?
- 15:19Aloe Blacc: Absolutely.
- 15:20Aloe Blacc: It makes it so much more special.
- 15:22Aloe Blacc: I think about artists like Bono, for instance, who uses his voice in that way.
- 15:28Aloe Blacc: Lady Gaga does this really, really spectacularly.
- 15:31Aloe Blacc: Throughout her career, she's always been championing causes, and so when you know that you're entertaining an audience, that's one thing, but when you know you're doing it and the money that is being raised is going to help the lives of the most vulnerable, it adds the cherry on top.
- 15:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah, yeah, it's a good thing to be doing.
- 15:50Dayna Roselli: Hey, I love the theme too.
- 15:52Dayna Roselli: It's the big apple to Las Vegas.
- 15:54Dayna Roselli: And have you worked with Edina Menzel before?
- 15:56Aloe Blacc: You know what?
- 15:56Aloe Blacc: I've never worked with Edina Menzel before.
- 15:59Aloe Blacc: I feel like, though, we are probably kindred spirits, because my kids have been singing her songs for years, and now I pretty much have every lyric memorized.
- 16:11Brian Newman: You're going to have to whip out your phone.
- 16:14Aloe Blacc: Absolutely.
- 16:15Aloe Blacc: It's going to make me a cool dad.
- 16:17Sean McAllister: You know that, or is there going to be any payback for constantly having those lyrics running through your head?
- 16:24Aloe Blacc: No, not at all.
- 16:25Aloe Blacc: I mean, she's a brilliant singer, performer, artist, writer.
- 16:30Aloe Blacc: I think that it's going to be a great show.
- 16:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah, listen, and you have so many hits and you were just saying you do love Vegas shows.
- 16:38Dayna Roselli: So what do you like about Las Vegas, anything you do when you visit here?
- 16:41Dayna Roselli: Have you seen any shows here recently that you enjoy you want to share with our listeners?
- 16:46Aloe Blacc: Yeah, just last month, my wife and I played hooky from parenting and gave the kids this my mom is the sitter.
- 16:54Aloe Blacc: We went to go see Adele at Cedars Palace.
- 16:56Aloe Blacc: A few months I think it was late last year, I can't remember exactly I went to go see Imagine Dragons at the Dolby Live.
- 17:02Aloe Blacc: Oh yeah, Got some tickets and planning to go see the O at the Bellagio.
- 17:09Aloe Blacc: It's been on text messaging and emailing back and forth with Formula One, trying to figure out when I can go check out one of their shows, maybe even perform while they're there.
- 17:21Aloe Blacc: What I want to see is it's usher, but my wife says no, she needs to go with her friends.
- 17:26Aloe Blacc: So there's that.
- 17:29Aloe Blacc: I tell you, it's the shows.
- 17:31Aloe Blacc: I'm not much of a gambler.
- 17:33Aloe Blacc: I have friends out there who are also musicians Steve Aoki and people who perform and do night clubs.
- 17:42Aloe Blacc: Other than that, though, it's mainly going to the concerts.
- 17:46Sean McAllister: Yeah, I love that.
- 17:47Sean McAllister: So are you looking forward to F1 then?
- 17:49Sean McAllister: I mean, obviously that's going to take over Las Vegas.
- 17:53Sean McAllister: You want to be here for that?
- 17:55Aloe Blacc: Absolutely.
- 17:56Aloe Blacc: I'm trying to, honestly, looking at my schedule, which ones are going to be the most convenient for me to be at, and so I want to check it out.
- 18:05Aloe Blacc: I'm fascinated about process.
- 18:07Aloe Blacc: So how did you shut down a city like Vegas to make this happen?
- 18:12Sean McAllister: We're curious about that too.
- 18:16Dayna Roselli: We know there's a lot of construction right now, but we're getting through it.
- 18:19Dayna Roselli: We're getting through it.
- 18:20Dayna Roselli: It's looking amazing.
- 18:21Dayna Roselli: It's going to be really cool, awesome.
- 18:24Dayna Roselli: Yeah, hey, what are you working on right now?
- 18:25Dayna Roselli: What do you got going?
- 18:27Dayna Roselli: We were just listening to some of your music.
- 18:29Aloe Blacc: Look, I'm always making songs and in the next few days actually seven days I'm releasing a song called Never Let you Down.
- 18:36Aloe Blacc: It's a song that I wrote, inspired by the great work of Big Brothers, big Sisters of America.
- 18:42Aloe Blacc: This is the kind of project that I'm doing.
- 18:45Aloe Blacc: Next, every song is inspired by a nonprofit organization that is doing massively positive work for the community, for youth and just to uplift Americans and people around the world.
- 18:57Aloe Blacc: So I've got a long list of nonprofit organizations and if you guys know of more, please send them my way.
- 19:04Aloe Blacc: I'm adding everything into consideration and I want to keep doing this for those of my career.
- 19:09Aloe Blacc: I love that.
- 19:10Aloe Blacc: That's amazing.
- 19:10Aloe Blacc: Yeah, that is great.
- 19:12Dayna Roselli: What a great idea and how inspiring.
- 19:14Dayna Roselli: I want more music to be inspired and more emotion.
- 19:19Dayna Roselli: I mean, I'm not saying music right now isn't good, but when you hear a good song and you feel it, it really I don't know it sticks out more than ever to me.
- 19:29Dayna Roselli: It just feels like there's a big pool of music out there that I don't know.
- 19:34Dayna Roselli: It's not hit and write.
- 19:37Aloe Blacc: I got you, I got you.
- 19:38Aloe Blacc: I think a lot of what works is kind of the sex, drugs, rock and roll, violence and that kind of thing.
- 19:45Aloe Blacc: But I think to balance the darkness there needs to be light, and so artists like myself, I look at Bill Withers and Joni Mitchell and James Taylor.
- 19:53Aloe Blacc: Those are my heroes from the past and I want to keep that light shining.
- 19:57Aloe Blacc: So here I am trying to do the best I can and at the same time glean the stories from organizations that could use the visibility, the amplification and magnify those stories, the more people will donate and get involved.
- 20:08Sean McAllister: Yeah Well, that's such an amazing thing.
- 20:11Sean McAllister: Thank you for doing that with your career and also for helping out Southern Nevada UMC Children's Hospital at the Evening of Hope.
- 20:20Sean McAllister: Expected to raise a million dollars at the Gala coming up here.
- 20:25Sean McAllister: So only a million.
- 20:27Aloe Blacc: I mean that's the baseline.
- 20:29Aloe Blacc: We're going to go to the back.
- 20:30Aloe Blacc: Come on, that's a starting point A starting point.
- 20:35Dayna Roselli: We've got Ella Black there.
- 20:36Dayna Roselli: Okay, we're going over a million.
- 20:38Dayna Roselli: That's the goal.
- 20:38Dayna Roselli: That's the goal.
- 20:39Sean McAllister: Let's see five 10.
- 20:40Sean McAllister: What do you want it to be?
- 20:41Sean McAllister: What's the goal?
- 20:43Aloe Blacc: I want to have to sing.
- 20:44Aloe Blacc: I need a dollar, dollar, dollar.
- 20:46Aloe Blacc: This what I need.
- 20:47Aloe Blacc: I'm going to have to make push it up to 10 million dollars.
- 20:51Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 20:51Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 20:52Sean McAllister: Keep raising the bar.
- 20:54Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 20:54Dayna Roselli: Well, everyone can get their tickets to see Ella Black at the fundraiser that's coming up here and I know it's going to be a great time.
- 21:01Dayna Roselli: Where can we get this new song that's coming out?
- 21:03Dayna Roselli: No-transcript.
- 21:07Aloe Blacc: Yes, I'm absolutely going to, just, you know, push it in every direction.
- 21:12Aloe Blacc: It'll be available on all the platforms and I'm trying to get to as many people as possible because the work of these, this particular Organization, big brothers, big sisters is amazing.
- 21:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, definitely listen L.
- 21:24Dayna Roselli: Thanks so much for joining us.
- 21:25Dayna Roselli: We hope to see you in Vegas outside of this fundraiser hanging out, and maybe we'll see you live on the strip sometime soon.
- 21:32Sean McAllister: Yeah, we can't wait to announce your residency.
- 21:35Aloe Blacc: Yes, thank you.
- 21:36Aloe Blacc: I'm looking forward to that too.
- 21:38Dayna Roselli: We broke her that deal.
- 21:39Dayna Roselli: Do we get like a little commission or what Not?
- 21:42Aloe Blacc: a little commission.
- 21:43Aloe Blacc: We're gonna, we're gonna work on a handsome gift.
- 21:48Sean McAllister: We're at work right now.
- 21:50Sean McAllister: We're sending text messages as we speak.
- 21:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah, have a beautiful day.
- 21:55Dayna Roselli: Thanks for joining us and taking the time appreciate it, man.
- 21:58Aloe Blacc: Thank you, thank you.
- 22:01Dayna Roselli: Great conversation with alo black.
- 22:02Dayna Roselli: Love him, such a fun guy to talk to.
- 22:05Dayna Roselli: Tickets are available.
- 22:06Dayna Roselli: If you want to go to this gala, it's UMCSN, so think southern Nevada comm, umcsn, comm.
- 22:14Dayna Roselli: If you'd like to go again, it is on October 13th.
- 22:17Sean McAllister: I'd love to see him become a headliner.
- 22:19Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that would be great.
- 22:21Sean McAllister: Another headliner who we just had the pleasure of seeing is Lady Gaga.
- 22:27Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh.
- 22:28Dayna Roselli: She heard jazz and piano show I have heard about for a very long time.
- 22:32Dayna Roselli: I never was able to make it over there, so it was my first time seeing it and let me tell you she blew me away.
- 22:39Dayna Roselli: I expected it to be good.
- 22:40Dayna Roselli: I saw her other show.
- 22:41Dayna Roselli: What was it?
- 22:41Dayna Roselli: A nigma a nigma.
- 22:42Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that was great too and I loved it, but you know she blew me away.
- 22:46Dayna Roselli: It was better than I even expected.
- 22:48Dayna Roselli: I loved even the videos.
- 22:50Dayna Roselli: In between her outfit changes I learned something.
- 22:53Dayna Roselli: I thought they were so cool, well done.
- 22:56Dayna Roselli: It was such a throwback Vegas show with a little bit of edge, a little bit of emotion.
- 23:00Dayna Roselli: It was funny and I just thought it was fabulous and the band and the orchestra was amazing and people dressed up for it.
- 23:07Sean McAllister: Oh yeah it was an occasion to go and see Lady Gaga's jazz and piano her outfits were spectacular as well incredible.
- 23:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and the covers that she did.
- 23:18Dayna Roselli: She made them her own but they were still like they didn't bother you.
- 23:21Dayna Roselli: Sometimes when people do covers of certain songs Old Vegas songs You're like didn't quite hit right right.
- 23:26Dayna Roselli: Lady Gaga does it right.
- 23:27Dayna Roselli: It was fabulous.
- 23:29Sean McAllister: Yeah, she's phenomenal.
- 23:30Sean McAllister: So was her entire Band that she has up there live performers backing her up there on that stage.
- 23:37Sean McAllister: So it's just that big band orchestra kind of vibe and it's fantastic.
- 23:42Dayna Roselli: That band, by the way, is led by her Long-time friend and incredible musician, a Brian Newman and if you're watching our video podcast, you can see him up there on stage with Lady Gaga.
- 23:54Dayna Roselli: He was incredible.
- 23:55Dayna Roselli: He's got his own show called Brian Newman after dark, that he does after Lady Gaga's show at the Nomad Library.
- 24:04Sean McAllister: Yeah, and this is a late night show.
- 24:05Sean McAllister: It doesn't start until at least 1130 at night, so you need to plan on that.
- 24:11Sean McAllister: But we're like you know what?
- 24:12Sean McAllister: We need to get Brian on the line, have a good chat with him about his experience bringing this old Entertainment vibe back to the strip.
- 24:22Sean McAllister: Well, brian, welcome back to Vegas.
- 24:24Sean McAllister: It's good to see you, man.
- 24:26Brian Newman: Thank you so much, john.
- 24:27Brian Newman: I'm so happy to be back in Vegas.
- 24:29Brian Newman: We love, we love it here.
- 24:30Brian Newman: It's such a dream come true.
- 24:31Dayna Roselli: I know it's so much fun and I know you just got done doing a bunch of shows, so tell me how have they gone so far?
- 24:38Brian Newman: It's been amazing you know me to be able to go from the stage with Gaga, the big stage, with a 30-piece orchestra, with arrangements that that me and my Boys have written, in a hero band of that caliber, play that kind of music Right into our late night show with special guests and burlesque and Angie Pontani and all these beautiful things.
- 24:56Brian Newman: It's really been a dream come true.
- 24:57Brian Newman: I know I don't, I don't say that likely, you know it's it's.
- 25:00Brian Newman: I've been wanting to be here my whole life.
- 25:01Brian Newman: It's, it's.
- 25:02Brian Newman: It's really an amazing thing to do this kind of music in this kind of setting in this beautiful city.
- 25:07Sean McAllister: Yeah, well, and not only are you here, but you've been here for the last few years doing your after dark show and I mean it's such a great vibe.
- 25:17Sean McAllister: It's that late night vibe like you mentioned.
- 25:19Sean McAllister: You have special guests who show up and it definitely is a nod to like what Vegas used to be that late night show where you never knew who was gonna pop up on stage together.
- 25:31Sean McAllister: That was a deliberate thing to do, right, to keep the history alive there.
- 25:38Brian Newman: Yeah, for sure, I mean.
- 25:39Brian Newman: I mean, I like I love this town.
- 25:40Brian Newman: There is so many people musician, singers, dancers that are that are always coming through Vegas, and to be able to pull from a whole city of Greatness like that, it's just, it's amazing, it's really, it's really amazing, it's.
- 25:53Brian Newman: It is like that you know Frank Sinatra's playing the main room at the sands and then you got Louis Prima and Keely Smith in the lounge and and that's good.
- 26:00Brian Newman: That was kind of the model, you know, I think, kind of the model that after dark has been since.
- 26:03Brian Newman: Since I started after dark in 2005 in New York.
- 26:06Brian Newman: You know, you know, so we've been doing this show a long time, but to be in Vegas, to have the budget to have the show girls, to have everything, it's really awesome.
- 26:14Dayna Roselli: It's really awesome things you know, I was sitting there when I was watching your show.
- 26:17Dayna Roselli: I was thinking, god, he must be exhausted.
- 26:19Dayna Roselli: He just did a full show on stage At the park MGM that took a quick break and came over to the Nomad and puts on this fabulous high energy show.
- 26:28Dayna Roselli: It's got to be tiring.
- 26:30Brian Newman: It is a little tiring but at the same time, like I don't my wife calls it like like Vegas, super natural chops, you know, like I don't know, I'm here, I get in the zone and I'm just like I'm ready to go.
- 26:40Brian Newman: Like right after we get off Stage with Gaga, I go upstairs, I crack open a Budweiser, put my suit on, change out of my tuxedo into my suit and then I warm my voice up and then we go right down and do the show of midnight around 11, 30 or 12 at the Nomad.
- 26:53Brian Newman: So it's like I don't know I'm ready to go.
- 26:54Brian Newman: You know I'm ready to go.
- 26:57Sean McAllister: Well, it's got to be one of those things, too, where you need to just like keep going power through, otherwise it's like your energy.
- 27:04Sean McAllister: It's like if I have a super long day, I can't take a nap, otherwise that like drains me and I can't keep going.
- 27:11Sean McAllister: But if I just like push through, it's like come on, come on, the energy just keeps flowing.
- 27:17Brian Newman: Exactly exactly.
- 27:18Brian Newman: Coffee, beer, champagne, whatever, whatever gets you through.
- 27:20Brian Newman: You know whatever gets you through.
- 27:23Dayna Roselli: It's fun too.
- 27:23Dayna Roselli: But listen, you play so many shows in New York City regularly.
- 27:26Dayna Roselli: I know it's a regular thing for you there.
- 27:28Dayna Roselli: I'm just curious what's the difference between, like New York City Well shows and also the crowd there compared to Las Vegas?
- 27:35Dayna Roselli: There's got to be some some clear differences.
- 27:38Brian Newman: Yeah, definitely, me and the boys talk about it all the time.
- 27:41Brian Newman: I've been with the same band for a lot of the guys over 20 years and we played all over the world and I feel like New York is like I don't know.
- 27:49Brian Newman: It's like you're in the batter's box, like swinging with the rings on the bat.
- 27:53Brian Newman: You know like you're warming up and you're warming up, and then when you get to Vegas or anywhere else, it's like taking the weight off the bats and just swinging for the fences and it really makes a big difference to be somewhere else.
- 28:08Brian Newman: New York is amazing and it is like practice for the big time.
- 28:13Brian Newman: The crowds are a little bit tougher.
- 28:15Brian Newman: They've seen it all.
- 28:16Brian Newman: You know what I mean, but then when we come out to Vegas, it's like something new for them.
- 28:20Brian Newman: It's something new, it's something like fresh, it's something different.
- 28:23Brian Newman: But yeah, they're both beautiful places to play and we love playing everywhere.
- 28:30Sean McAllister: And being here in Las Vegas and talking about crowds, there has been kind of an ongoing conversation about what is the proper etiquette for people in the audience.
- 28:41Sean McAllister: So I'm curious from a performer's point of view, like do you like to see people standing on their feet, you know, really having the energy go through them?
- 28:52Sean McAllister: Or you know there's been talk of people like oh, when you go to a Vegas show you need to stay in your seat and have it be more of a show.
- 29:01Sean McAllister: The difference between a show and a concert.
- 29:04Brian Newman: Yeah, no, yeah, yeah, sean.
- 29:06Brian Newman: I mean like I want everybody to get up.
- 29:08Brian Newman: You know what I mean.
- 29:08Brian Newman: Like concerts good, but at the end of the day, I'm an entertainer and I want the people to feel good.
- 29:13Brian Newman: I want them to leaving that concert feeling like they saw something different that took them out of their lives for their problems not problems, but you know, everybody's got their things.
- 29:23Brian Newman: I want people to forget about that and just be in the moment and, yes, I want them on their feet, I want them standing up, dancing whatever they want to do.
- 29:31Brian Newman: It's cool with me.
- 29:32Dayna Roselli: You know, concert schmonzer you know, yeah, yeah, well, we can imagine.
- 29:37Dayna Roselli: We were at a show recently where everyone was seated and they were enjoying the show, but it just didn't feel.
- 29:42Dayna Roselli: You know, every now and then you need everyone to just stand up and immerse themselves in it.
- 29:47Dayna Roselli: That's what I feel like I would want, but I'm not on stage.
- 29:50Dayna Roselli: So we were curious and I know each show is probably different.
- 29:53Dayna Roselli: It depends, maybe what kind of show you're doing.
- 29:56Brian Newman: Yeah, and it depends on, like, what's going on.
- 29:58Brian Newman: Like last night we had I don't know if you guys know Sky D Miles, the wonderful singing singing Sean Toos oh, me too.
- 30:04Brian Newman: She's one of my favorite singers, man and she came and sang with us last night and she had the whole crowd up.
- 30:10Brian Newman: You know it was like that.
- 30:11Brian Newman: And then she had a five minute standing ovation after she sang Girl Crush, which is one of my favorite songs that she does.
- 30:17Brian Newman: But you know, she has that tech, she has that capability to just get everybody up and get them into the moment.
- 30:23Brian Newman: And that's what this music is about.
- 30:26Brian Newman: It's the Great American Songbook, whether it's a 100 year old song or a song that's by Nirvana, that's only 30 years old.
- 30:32Brian Newman: Like it's like these songs can get people up, can get people out and get people interested.
- 30:39Brian Newman: You know we don't have to change the content to make it accessible for everybody.
- 30:42Sean McAllister: You know, I just had a shock to my system when you said that a Nirvana song was 30 years old.
- 30:48Brian Newman: I know, I know what the hell is up with that.
- 30:50Brian Newman: I think like maybe some of them are 35, some of them are early ones.
- 30:53Dayna Roselli: Yeah, man, that is crazy I love it.
- 30:58Brian Newman: But like you said, sean, that's part of the American lexicon of American music.
- 31:01Brian Newman: You know, to me that's just as much of an American song as called Porter or George Gershwin.
- 31:08Brian Newman: You know these are songs that are great.
- 31:11Brian Newman: Anyway, dana, I'm sorry to interrupt.
- 31:14Dayna Roselli: No, no, it's OK.
- 31:15Dayna Roselli: No, and I was just thinking you're right.
- 31:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, and that's the great thing, it's the different arrangements you do of all this, everyone, you know, it's just so great to hear people actually taking older songs and making new arrangements and making it new again.
- 31:26Dayna Roselli: And I feel like you know you do that a lot.
- 31:28Dayna Roselli: What about working with Lady Gaga?
- 31:30Dayna Roselli: How is that?
- 31:31Dayna Roselli: I'm sure a lot of listeners want to know.
- 31:33Brian Newman: Oh man, it's really the best.
- 31:35Brian Newman: I mean, like I said earlier, to be able to play this kind of music on stage with her and this beautiful 30-piece orchestra.
- 31:43Brian Newman: It's just incredible and she's amazing to work with.
- 31:46Brian Newman: And I'm not just saying that, you know, she just really cares about the music, she cares about the people that are involved, she cares about her team.
- 31:53Brian Newman: You know, it's not just the 30 musicians on stage that makes this happen.
- 31:56Brian Newman: It's the 50 or 100 other stage hands and producers and I mean sorry production managers and all that kind of stuff that really make this thing work.
- 32:06Brian Newman: And her level of commitment to all of us is unheard of in this industry.
- 32:11Brian Newman: I think you know what I mean.
- 32:12Brian Newman: She really cares and in turn, that makes us really care about what we're doing, you know.
- 32:18Brian Newman: So my goal as band leader and arranger and orchestrator for this show is to give her a better rose, is to lie in so that she can sing whatever she wants to sing and feel comfortable and feel happy, and the same thing for the audience.
- 32:32Brian Newman: You know, it's really a tremendous thing to be able to work with her over these past.
- 32:37Brian Newman: Tammy and I she said on stage last night we met when we were 19,.
- 32:40Brian Newman: When she was 19.
- 32:41Brian Newman: I mean, that was a long time ago, you know.
- 32:45Brian Newman: So we've been playing and hanging out together for a really long time.
- 32:48Brian Newman: So it's crazy to me to be able to I gotta pinch myself sometimes.
- 32:53Brian Newman: It's not lost on the blue collar kid from Cleveland, you know what I mean Like this is something very special to be doing in New York and honestly, I don't think there's been an act that's done what she's done in this town since Frank Sinatra.
- 33:05Brian Newman: You know just with the orchestrations and the way the show's presented, it's heavy man, it's straight to the wall.
- 33:14Brian Newman: You know what I mean.
- 33:14Brian Newman: We're not pulling any punches.
- 33:18Sean McAllister: Well, we're glad that you are back with Lady Gaga and Jazz and Piano over at Park MGM and glad that After Dark is still going strong in the Nomad Library.
- 33:31Sean McAllister: It's a great time.
- 33:32Sean McAllister: Can't wait to be back over and see you, man.
- 33:35Brian Newman: Yeah, thank you so much, tina.
- 33:37Brian Newman: Sean, thank you so much for having me.
- 33:38Brian Newman: This has been amazing, always good to talk to you guys and I hope, I hope, we let you know if you guys want to come out.
- 33:43Brian Newman: Come out to the show.
- 33:44Dayna Roselli: We will, we will, we'll be there.
- 33:46Brian Newman: We'll take a nap first, but we'll be there.
- 33:48Brian Newman: Yeah, I'll put you on the list.
- 33:49Brian Newman: I'll put you on the list.
- 33:51Dayna Roselli: Love it, Brian.
- 33:52Dayna Roselli: Thanks so much.
- 33:53Brian Newman: Oh, thank you so much, guys.
- 33:54Brian Newman: Thanks Tina, thanks Sean, thanks Vegas LA.
- 33:57Brian Newman: Have a good time, guys.
- 33:58Brian Newman: Thank you.
- 33:59Dayna Roselli: So, yeah, we highly recommend both shows, lady Gaga and Brian Newman After Dark.
- 34:04Sean McAllister: Such a good time, let's do some tips.
- 34:07Dayna Roselli: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh.
- 34:11Dayna Roselli: All right, Sean, this is something you discovered recently and you went hey, did you know?
- 34:15Dayna Roselli: And I thought well, let's let everyone else know.
- 34:18Sean McAllister: So Lupo is a restaurant over at Mandalay Bay.
- 34:22Sean McAllister: If you've been to Las Vegas any time in the last 25 years, you've seen it at Mandalay Bay.
- 34:29Sean McAllister: It's a Wolfgang Puck restaurant.
- 34:31Sean McAllister: Well, Lupo is now closed and I was sad to hear that because I've been there so many times and it's always a great spot.
- 34:40Sean McAllister: But the good news is that it's making way for a new Wolfgang Puck restaurant.
- 34:46Sean McAllister: It's called Carama.
- 34:48Sean McAllister: It's expected to open in January of 2024.
- 34:52Sean McAllister: So just in time for Super Bowl to be held here.
- 34:54Sean McAllister: Good, and this is also an Italian restaurant, but it's inspired by Wolfgang Puck's mother, who was a pastry chef and who really inspired him to break into the culinary world.
- 35:06Dayna Roselli: Right, I love that and I'm so glad that, Wolf, this space is just going to be another Wolfgang Puck restaurant.
- 35:13Brian Newman: Yes, absolutely Because.
- 35:14Dayna Roselli: I love his restaurants and we have a few of them here in town, but I feel like we need more.
- 35:20Dayna Roselli: So I'm happy that there's gonna be another, you know, replaced Wolfgang puck Restaurant.
- 35:25Dayna Roselli: That's gonna go in there because, you're right, lupo has just been there forever.
- 35:28Dayna Roselli: It's just a staple.
- 35:29Sean McAllister: Yeah, and so this Karama is supposed to have different stations inside.
- 35:34Sean McAllister: There's going to be a pastry bar In there as well.
- 35:37Sean McAllister: So a lot of Italian classics.
- 35:40Sean McAllister: He grew up kind of on the Austria Italy border so he was very close to Italy Growing up before he moved to France, so a lot of this is the inspiration from his childhood.
- 35:53Sean McAllister: Yeah, which will be neat to see.
- 35:55Dayna Roselli: He's so cool.
- 35:56Sean McAllister: He's the best.
- 35:57Dayna Roselli: I interviewed him this year on the red carpet for the Keep Memory alive Gala and we met him poolside at the.
- 36:04Dayna Roselli: Venetian for a dining.
- 36:06Dayna Roselli: It was like a nighttime dining event Remember.
- 36:09Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 36:09Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 36:09Dayna Roselli: There was a line of people to meet Wolfgang.
- 36:11Dayna Roselli: He was like just chillin there with like a glass of red wine.
- 36:14Dayna Roselli: All right, I'll take my picture.
- 36:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, we, you know I remember to eat your vegetables.
- 36:19Dayna Roselli: He's great.
- 36:21Dayna Roselli: He is great, so I'm glad that that will be replaced with another Wolfgang restaurant.
- 36:25Dayna Roselli: All right, let's talk more restaurants.
- 36:27Dayna Roselli: So you and I went to a brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
- 36:31Dayna Roselli: It was a brunch weekend.
- 36:32Dayna Roselli: It was a brunch weekend.
- 36:33Dayna Roselli: We want to tell you about the Casa Playa brunch over at Win-Loss Vegas.
- 36:37Dayna Roselli: It's actually in the encore side, but they are doing a new weekend brunch.
- 36:41Dayna Roselli: They normally open just for dinner at 5 30.
- 36:43Dayna Roselli: So they said you know what we're gonna do, a Saturday brunch, and this is 10 30 to 2 30 and it's gonna be priced at 84 99 per Guest.
- 36:52Dayna Roselli: So keep that in mind.
- 36:53Dayna Roselli: But you get a menu in front of you and you can order whatever you want off of it.
- 36:58Sean McAllister: And it's all you can eat.
- 36:59Sean McAllister: All you can eat, and they're the stakin eggs.
- 37:02Sean McAllister: Even if you went in ordered all the stakin eggs that you could eat, I Mean that would be worth it.
- 37:11Dayna Roselli: And then the, the I'm gonna call it taco bar, but I know there's a fancier name for it was amazing.
- 37:17Dayna Roselli: I mean, the woman there was like taking the corn, you know dough, and like flattening it and then putting it on at this this round Thing.
- 37:26Dayna Roselli: That heated it up and you were like watching your tortilla Made right in front of you.
- 37:31Dayna Roselli: Yeah that was really cool.
- 37:33Dayna Roselli: And then all the the meats that they had there as well.
- 37:36Sean McAllister: There was not a single thing on that menu that was not bursting with flavor.
- 37:42Sean McAllister: Yeah, including the bar of Agua frescas, that they had different flavored waters that come Included in the in the price of the meal.
- 37:53Sean McAllister: Again, unlimited refills.
- 37:55Sean McAllister: It was just delicious.
- 37:58Dayna Roselli: It really was delicious.
- 37:59Dayna Roselli: Our server was amazing and so knowledgeable.
- 38:01Dayna Roselli: She was wonderful as well.
- 38:03Dayna Roselli: Um, you have like a Bloody Mary.
- 38:06Dayna Roselli: Oh, what was that?
- 38:07Dayna Roselli: Um espresso drink you had at the end, oh it was um oh, I don't remember the name of it, but it was there.
- 38:13Dayna Roselli: It was like a.
- 38:14Sean McAllister: Mexican version of an espresso martini.
