- 0:19Hello, America, and thank you for listening to Episode Zero,
- 0:23the introduction of the Juneto Podcast.
- 0:25I am your host, Edgar Mills.
- 0:28So, a little bit about me. I am an Atlanta native, a former bicycle messenger
- 0:35of which I'm very proud, a retired Green Beret, a father and a grandfather,
- 0:41a husband of 28 years, and a small business owner.
- 0:46The two businesses I own are Osprey Shooting Solutions, where we do firearms
- 0:51training and education for a broad range of skill sets.
- 0:55And we and I own Southern Ornithological League, where we do teamwork and leadership
- 1:02development around adventure based training.
- 1:06And we also happen to love birds.
- 1:08So those are the things I do that I'm passionate about. And that's what I'll
- 1:12be promoting on here from time to time.
- 1:14But why are you here? You're here for the Juneto podcast. And what is it all about?
- 1:20Well, the podcast is a nod to the original 1727 Juneto Club founded by Benjamin
- 1:29Franklin, also known as the Leather Apron Club.
- 1:32And there, men came together weekly in a social setting to discuss a broad range
- 1:40of topics from business to religion to philosophy and so forth,
- 1:46with the goal of making each other more critical thinkers and more intellectual
- 1:52thinkers, so that they could then go out and be useful and help to better their communities.
- 2:00And many, many, many good things came from the Junto Club that still exists today.
- 2:07So we have the same exact goal.
- 2:10The podcast is a platform where people from all corners of American society
- 2:17can offer topics and insights on those topics to a broader audience. Okay.
- 2:27So that we can get better together, that we can become more critical thinkers together.
- 2:32The podcast lives on a website, thejuntopodcast.com.
- 2:37And another thing that lives on that website is a blog.
- 2:41Now, I happen to like to write, and occasionally I will put my thoughts on paper
- 2:47in a more formal format, and I like to get feedback on those.
- 2:52I like to hear what my colleagues and friends have to say about what I've written.
- 2:57I think it's very important for my own development and I enjoy it.
- 3:01I strongly encourage listeners to do the same.
- 3:04Put your thoughts down. Put them on paper. Read them out loud.
- 3:09Share them with other people. Share them with the platform. Share them with us.
- 3:13Well-written papers we will post on our website.
- 3:17The most compelling papers will become topics of discussion on the podcast.
- 3:23So do that. Put your thoughts together.
- 3:27Put them out there and defend them. And furthermore, own your own thoughts. Own them.
- 3:34So that's what we aim to do here. Now, the primary goal of all of this is to
- 3:40promote critical thinking and bold creativity in practical application.
- 3:48Theory and philosophy is nothing without action. So we need to be able to learn
- 3:52how to action these thoughts, the things that we want to see happen and make
- 3:56happen. We need to learn how to action those.
- 3:58And that is part of our whole existence here is to learn to do that together.
- 4:04So in the spirit of Benjamin Franklin, let's keep things lively.
- 4:08Let's keep things fun because he was those things. And most importantly,
- 4:13most importantly, let's keep things genuine.
- 4:17This is the Juneto Podcast. I'm Edgar Mills.
- 4:21Music.
