- 2:06yet, not yet, but it seems to be in the air, you
- 2:08know, as Don Lemon would say, but we're back here on the floor
- 2:12all Nerds show, and you know, thank you very much for joining us,
- 2:15you know, welcome back to all of our listeners, to all the
- 2:17new people out there, thank you. We're here once again. It's a
- 2:23very special episode, you know. Um, we're gonna be talking about a
- 2:25little movie we got to see, or some of us stop to see,
- 2:29as the case may be, about that, about that Dungeons and Dragons,
- 2:36Honor among thieves or on tee if it's if it's thieves, it's tiefs,
- 2:46because that's why I'm from Brooklyn. So we out light teeth teeth, Light
- 2:53Thief Match crook. Oh god, yeah, man, we saw yeah,
- 3:01well yeah, y'all we saw the new Dungeon and Dragons film. I found
- 3:05out this is like the fourth or fifth Dudgeons and Dragons film technically word I
- 3:08know. Yeah. So apparently there was a bunch in the two thousands,
- 3:13and like at least two of them was like directed video. Yeah, okay,
- 3:16okay, I believe that. Okay, because there's Marlon Wayne's joint.
- 3:20I know that that was. Now that's what fucking shot at me because that
- 3:23was the first one when I was looking it up and it said Marlin Wayne.
- 3:25I said, Marlon Waynes, what did he play the teeth? Of
- 3:30course he was black. I mean, what would you expect the two I'm
- 3:38trying to google it and you're just saying this. Look, that's what Chico
- 3:43Leo told me. Chico Leo was there in the house last night. Shouts
- 3:46to the Chico Leo, the legend for our nerds. Long time listeners will
- 3:52know who I'm talking about. He was there last night. He peeped it
- 3:54with me, and uh yeah, he told me that Marlin Wayne's played the
- 3:59teeth. I'm not going to disagree with that. Yeah, So that one
- 4:01came out, well, I don't know if that was specific was Marlin's,
- 4:03But there was one that came out in the two thousand, literally the year
- 4:05two thousand and then there was one that came out two thousand and five.
- 4:09Another one came out to twenty twelve, and they was keeping track because they
- 4:13said that twenty twelve one was the third one, so I had no fucking
- 4:15clue. And then it's this one, so apparently four. Have you been
- 4:19following any of these films hell to the know? Like for what? Like,
- 4:26I have you even seen the Marlin Wayne's version parts? How was it
- 4:31in parts? I don't. I can't judge that movie, you know.
- 4:33How wasn't the parts that you saw? I can't remember. That's that's why
- 4:38the movies that was like on cable or something that was like oh okay,
- 4:41it wasn't even like a full like oh hell no. I never tried to,
- 4:45you know, like I never attempted to be like, let me go
- 4:46watch the Dungeons and Dragons movie with Marlon Wayne's in it. Well, when
- 4:51you say it like that, Ben, I mean that was never my plan.
- 4:55Look, I love Marlin Wayne's and a lot of films but it's just
- 4:58say he gonna be a Dungeons and Dragon movie with Marlon Wayne's and I'm gonna
- 5:00you know, no, that's not the one I'm gonna hunt down. All
- 5:03right, Well apparently I barely would have hunted down this. Well, let's
- 5:11talk about that a little bit because this this uh and first of all,
- 5:15it's called Honor among Thieves. So it is thiefs, Yeah, tiefs man.
- 5:21And it's starring Cris Pine, Chelle Rodriguez, reggae reggae Jean Paul right,
- 5:30is it? No, it's not. Don't please tell me that man's
- 5:31name is not reggae r eg apostogy, r eg e apostogy, not like
- 5:45reggae music. Calm down, Calm down, but the damn here not rega,
- 6:00not reggae John Yeah, but Justice Smith, who actually played the kid
- 6:05in the Pikachu, the Protective Pikachu movie. So I thought he was also
- 6:09in the latest Jurassic Park, oh, of which I didn't watch, which
- 6:14I did. Did you like it? No, he's unfortunately okay, Um,
- 6:18Hugh Grant and then a bunch of other people were in the film.
- 6:21Yes, a bunch of other people. I know these people. Yeah,
- 6:28no, I just oh, shout out to Sophia Lillus, who's also in
- 6:33the Joint. She's one of the party members. She plays the Druid,
- 6:38and I really liked her in the Joint. Um. But yeah, I
- 6:41like I we are saying I would not have hunted this down. I just
- 6:44know, Okay. I'm a lifelong fan of Dungeons and Dragons jaw even before
- 6:47comic books. Dungeons and Dragons. Well, Star Wars is my initial introduction
- 6:53to geet them. That's like it begins and ends with Star Wars, but
- 6:56then the first like I read a lot of fantasy books even before that,
- 7:01I think, but Dungeons and Dragons was like the first thing where I was
- 7:04like, oh, I'm a geek, you know what I mean, because
- 7:06that's like some real super geek shit. And I knew doing it with some
- 7:11super geek shit, but I loved it, you know. And this was
- 7:14like early basic addition, a basic edition for those who know the original Dudgeons
- 7:19Dragons, the Red and Blue books, Like shit's worth dumb money right now.
- 7:24If I had on my wish, I don't all that. Up to
- 7:27second edition, I was still rocking heavy, you know. The cartoon on
- 7:30TV. That was a lot of people's introduction to the eighties. If you
- 7:34are up in the eighties, that's like a lot of people's introduction the Dungeons
- 7:38and Dragons. I love that joint. There was a TV show, it
- 7:41was a cartoon. It was Yeah, it's a cartoon from the eighties.
- 7:44They referenced in the film. Oh spoiler, we'll bleep that out. That's
- 7:48not really a spoiler. Yeah, it's been in reference. But the fact
- 7:51that you just said there was references doesn't mean anything true. Indeed, Well,
- 7:57the eighties cartoon was a lot of people's introduction, but Dudgeons Dragons were
- 8:01just heavy for me. That's what got me into war Hammer, got me
- 8:03into pretty much role playing games in general, and every other role playing game
- 8:07that I played, which was a multitude of them. So I go back
- 8:11with this joint, you know, so I was not expecting anything because you
- 8:15know, there was the joint with Marlon Wayne's where right from what people have
- 8:18said, it was not that good. But Marlon Wade is not the withstanding.
- 8:22I thought, like when when I first started here rumblings at this,
- 8:24I like, I knew that about your background, about the stuff you like
- 8:26in d and d and all that, so I was sure that you would
- 8:30be the first one talking about take me to this film. Nah, And
- 8:33it was kind of the opposite. You were like, well, you know,
- 8:35if I get a chance to see it, I'll see it. But
- 8:39like I mean me, I go ahead. You could, you could continue,
- 8:41but like did, I didn't really have much of a It's also because
- 8:46my geeth with dungeons and dragons are so deep, right, Like, I'm
- 8:48a fiend of the dragon Lance series and also the Forgotten Realms with Raceland,
- 8:56I mean not the Raceland, dragon Lance. Drizz It due Order from the
- 8:58fort in Realms. He's a droll elf character. He's super popular. I
- 9:03think there's a video game finally coming with him. I can't remember, but
- 9:07that is my dude, you know, drives It, the Crystal Shard series
- 9:11all that, that's where I go back to. And then dragon Lance is
- 9:15my other one. These are two different worlds, dragon Lance in the Forgotten
- 9:16Realms, but those are my two big like fendoms, And since this movie
- 9:22wasn't based on either, I was just like, Ah, it's just gonna
- 9:24be some you know, this some ship for the kids. You know,
- 9:26this ain't no that this ain't the hardcore shit that I want, you know,
- 9:30And so that's what I wasn't really that hype about it. Well,
- 9:35wow, I just realized how much of a Dungeons and Dragons, like you
- 9:39know, Jesus you okay eat them runs deep with everything. My gingk thumb
- 9:46was a negative ten for this because I don't know shit about shit when it
- 9:50comes to dungeon and Dragon's dragons metaphor right there. Oh really yeah, you
- 9:56know, like most things are like plus five or negative. Like I get
- 10:00that from RPGs in general, but I know that tabletop yeah. But yeah,
- 10:05so so like I'm an RPG girl all day, but I mean gaming
- 10:09RPG it's like final fantasies and things like that. You know they Balter's Gate
- 10:13that was a dope ont nah, yeah, Balter's Gate was a dope PC.
- 10:18Uh Dragons gay Yeah, And then you know, like some some PC
- 10:22forgot like the very first one. It was something where I like accidentally drowned
- 10:26the guy in like five minutes. I was like, all right, so
- 10:31but that and I was like I had so me going in this, like
- 10:35I don't know shit about ship and it comes to dungeons and dragons. I
- 10:37have no frame of reference whatsoever, right, so I didn't judge it bad
- 10:41or good. I was just like, I have no fucking clue what I'm
- 10:45getting myself into. You know, I'm gonna I got invited. I said,
- 10:48all I'm gonna see this and see what's up. And I was pretty
- 10:50pretty much an open book at that point. I was just like, let's
- 10:54do it, you know, um, and I have some thoughts, so
- 11:00well, let me maybe I should put this disclaimer out there before I get
- 11:03too deep into things. I unfortunately was only able to see like half the
- 11:05movie because I became unwell halfway through and had to leave, but had to
- 11:13exit stage left. So I'm gonna have to watch it again and another time
- 11:16on my own time and maybe come back with an update. But I'm just
- 11:20gonna give y'all when we go through this how I feel about the half that
- 11:24I did see. But of that TANGI sickness as they say, yes,
- 11:33So overall, like I said, I was not that hype about it.
- 11:37I was like, Okay, I'm thank you, you know, for those
- 11:41who sent us in and let us see this joint, because that's probably the
- 11:46only way I would have seen it untils on streaming, and my overall thoughts
- 11:50are I really enjoyed it, like good it's Cheeko Leo enjoyed it too.
- 11:56I heard, yes, the Cheeko Leo thoroughly and enjoyed it as well.
- 12:00And he was he had bigger reservations than I did. He was not anticipating
- 12:05in anything, and I really enjoyed it. I think overall it is a
- 12:09mix of the Guardians of the Galaxy formula with the Fast and Furious formula,
- 12:15which is basically sent it on family and the Marvel formerly in general for the
- 12:20first few phases, which was centered around broken characters coming together and finding ways
- 12:24to overcome their brokenness together as a family. So it's I mean, it's
- 12:28heavy on that. Like there's and the marvelness. There's the red references to
- 12:35Marvel stuff, some of the storytelling tricks and everything called back to Marvel.
- 12:39There's a very quick after the credit scene. I won't spoil anything about it.
- 12:43It's very quick. I'm not sure if there's two are screening ended immediately
- 12:48after the first one. So there's all these things that you've come to know
- 12:50from Marvel films. There's all the quips, all the characters are making jokes.
- 12:56They're not so much self aware, but they're definitely you know, jokey
- 12:58about things. And I loved it. I mean I loved but I was
- 13:05like, Okay, I could see more from this franchise, and it hit
- 13:11all the sweet spots for the Dudgeons and dragons heads, and it's probably gonna
- 13:15hit even more than I knew. Like I called a lot of references.
- 13:18There's a certain monster that at one point I'm like, yo, what is
- 13:22that? And then the name popped in my head and I'm like, oh
- 13:24my god, I'm such a fucking geek, Like how did I remember this
- 13:26name? At this monster from like twenty years ago before they I mean maybe
- 13:31even longer before the characters even said it, because it's just in me.
- 13:35So there's a lot of stuff like that. But there there was other things
- 13:37I'm like, what is that? You know? And I know other people
- 13:39can be like, oh shit, it's you know, So there was a
- 13:43lot of that. The costumes, everything, the creatures all are very cool.
- 13:48There's some really fun references and a huge cameo after shows up at one
- 13:54point that you know, it's not in anything I've seen before. Everyone in
- 13:58the kinda was like, oh is that, Oh that is okay, you
- 14:03know, a great scene. So it did what it needed to do.
- 14:07You know, it's a great setup for a Dungeons and Dragons franchise and solid
- 14:11joint. I left with no real complaints. I'll get into some more stuff,
- 14:16you know that I liked them, didn't like, you know, after
- 14:20a while, but I definitely want to hear what you know, what I
- 14:24had, what I thought about the happy yeah, and why it was a
- 14:28little less than half. I'll tell you a movie does don't on for a
- 14:30little bit. Okay, Well, thanks for letting me know it was less
- 14:33than half, because it was already a long time by the time I had
- 14:35to get up in debt. But I mean Tom is traveling in a weird
- 14:39way at that point, so um, well, first of all, I
- 14:45wasn't comfortable with the environment we were in, so we weren't in a regular
- 14:48theater. We were in one of these weird four D theater spaces. And
- 14:54what that means is they just put more of like the canvas, like the
- 14:56canvas that you watch the movie the film on, They put that on the
- 15:00side wall so that instead of just watching, you know, the screen in
- 15:03front of whatever degrees that is, you get more of a one hundred and
- 15:05eighty degree filled a vision. But it's not like a curved screen. It's
- 15:09like four corners, you know, like a like a box that you're normally
- 15:15in in the room, and so there's a very hard seam at the corners
- 15:18and then you know the side walls, right, so there there. What's
- 15:24the word that they're they're they're throwing this film. I don't know the word,
- 15:26I'm looking for it right now, but they're putting this film on the
- 15:28wall and it's extending to each side of you. And the reason why I
- 15:33didn't like that because it was disorienting to me, Like even when it first
- 15:37starts, like they put up like this grid up and they're like basically trying
- 15:41to train you to look they like, only look ahead and do this,
- 15:43and I adn't like all that. I just wanted to be in the regular
- 15:46fucking screen. I want to either REGA screen or IMAX. I don't like
- 15:50all this extra shit that it was doing too much, and just it just
- 15:52felt like it's like you're trying to force a VR experience on me without giving
- 15:56me the headset. I ain't like that. That's number one, okay,
- 16:00but that's not the fall of the film. I'm just letting y'all know.
- 16:03I was uncomfortable in the environment period. The theater was packed. I don't
- 16:10know about that, but it was enough people in there in the theater,
- 16:15okay, Benavi. So that's one I remember. I don't have a frame
- 16:22of reference, which is fine because there's lots of films I watched with I
- 16:26have no idea who's who, what's what, and that's that's most new films
- 16:30you see right less it's Marvel, right ye um. I don't know if
- 16:36that harm to hurt me, because I just felt lost during what I was
- 16:41watching. And what I mean by that is it's not that it was hard
- 16:45to follow, like point A, let the point beIN, like it made
- 16:48sense in the logical logically, but it just didn't make sense for me from
- 16:52a storytelling me fact that I was like, why are they doing this?
- 16:56And it went from like okay, word again there in the room too,
- 17:00Oh, we gotta go save somebody to up something's on fire? Like it
- 17:03was just very for me. It was kind of abrupt, and I was
- 17:06just lost, like, well, what's what's the driving force. Then I
- 17:10remember, this is dungeon and dragons. Shit, just fucking happens. Fine,
- 17:12no problem. The I did not like the dialogue. I didn't really
- 17:21like the dialogue um, and particularly in the especially the bulk of the half
- 17:26that I saw was exposition heavy. In fact, it was like that first
- 17:33twenty five minutes was all fucking Crispine talking and then you get the dungeons and
- 17:38dragons flash screen and I was just like, oh, so we haven't even
- 17:41started the field yet. Time was traveling different for us. It was twenty
- 17:48five minutes. I haven't. I actually I actually looked on my on my
- 17:51watch and that's how I do. So I was like, okay, um,
- 17:56so like again I was, it's not like it's a black screen and
- 18:00I was talking and you know that, Ben, I mean, yes,
- 18:03there's things happening screen. But yeah, here's my thing. I don't like
- 18:06for long periods of time watching action or things. And I say action,
- 18:10not an action scene, but things happening on screen. Okay. I don't
- 18:14like seeing action and someone talking over that action for very very long periods of
- 18:18time. That that annoyed me deeply, Okay. And then the way the
- 18:22words were used the dialogue it to give you my overall I felt like someone
- 18:30gave chat GBT instructions to make a feeling about like dungeons and dragons, and
- 18:37this is what it came out with. Now, clearly I'm in the minority,
- 18:41because when you look on Rotten Tomatoes, you'll see both critics and audience
- 18:45gave this over ninety percent. And that's why I said, you know what,
- 18:49I need to go back and watch the shit again because the bit that
- 18:52I did see, I was not feeling it. Disrespect is real around here.
- 18:56Um, it felt like it. I'm sorry it felt it felt like
- 19:03it just but I mean, let's let's let's let's go as point by point.
- 19:07You mentioned you thought the costuming and all that was great. Yeah,
- 19:12I thought it was second rate. I thought the costume was like the ship
- 19:18that got left behind on the other like dunging and dragon type castle type ship
- 19:25movies. Like. I felt like it was like, Okay, this is
- 19:27all the ship that Game of Thrones did not use, y'all could use this.
- 19:32I mean, this is not a Game of Thrones or a Lord of
- 19:34the Rings level of production. Like, Lord, you're right, it was
- 19:37one hundred fifty million budget. Yeah, Lord of the Rings had, But
- 19:41did they have more than that? Probably not Lord of the Rings, not
- 19:45Lord of Rings, but Game of Thrones were spending like what Hyde, But
- 19:52to tell me one fifty million is not enough? Wait? Wait? Wait
- 19:55are you saying? So are you agreeing number one that the costumes wasn't all
- 19:57that I'm saying, I'm like what I'm saying, there's nowhere I mean,
- 20:04you have to pay Chrispine to Cetter. You gotta remember there's a lot of
- 20:07people involved in this. I'm not I'm saying that it's nowhere near on the
- 20:10level you're I'm not going into this for the intricacy of a Game of Thrones
- 20:15or a Lord of the Rings. You know, Lord of the Rings had
- 20:18like a serious legacy to live up to where own. It has to be
- 20:21perfect because that stuff is described in the books to a t. So I
- 20:26wouldn't, you know, put that on these people? And I wasn't looking
- 20:27for that. I think, why don't people have decent costumes? I didn't
- 20:32say you have to have like that's what I'm saying. I'm just saying decent.
- 20:34I didn't even say they were decent. Yeah, I mean I just
- 20:37I disagree at home point. You know, I think I think they were
- 20:41like hey, I think they were solid, you know, like for what
- 20:42it is, I think they were. I don't think that these were like
- 20:45some oh my god, look at those costumes, but like one, I
- 20:49mean, they have see I can't even there's one ill trick I can't reveal,
- 20:53you know, because I don't really but I mean it's just a color
- 20:56changing trick that they do. Yeah, but it was sick, you know.
- 21:00I thought that was fire, you know, and like those little little
- 21:03touches like that were well done to me. Now, there were some sick
- 21:06moments when it came to this special the graphics, like the special effects.
- 21:11There were certain moments where I was like, oh, that that's actually a
- 21:15really cool idea. And the way it's executed, it's I've actually never seen
- 21:18it executed in that way, especially in this type of you know, like
- 21:22I can't I don't want to call it Dungeons and Dragons like film, but
- 21:26it's dungeons and dragons, but those types of films where you're going through you're
- 21:30finding a dragon, or you're fighting dwarves and this, you know, elves
- 21:33and all them type of people fantasy, right, Um, I just I
- 21:37just saw some things that were a little bit newer than or newer take on
- 21:41things that I've seen before in other fantasy type films of this caliber. So
- 21:45I was thought that was cool. But at the same time, there were
- 21:49times where I thought the special effects looked off. And again, like you
- 21:55said, maybe it's what you're saying, like they're not gonna be the Lord
- 21:57of the Rings level, but I've it's just like I feel like I shouldn't
- 22:00be able to see the flaws like that. Me personally, I saw a
- 22:04lot of flaws. Yeah I didn't. I mean I thought like like and
- 22:10I also I have to say, I think you didn't see some of the
- 22:12like more special effect and intense scenes later on and later on, So like
- 22:17I just got all the crap in the beginning and then all the question happened
- 22:19after I left. I don't think it was crap though, what you saw,
- 22:23you know, Like that's the thing. I like mostly stuff that stuff
- 22:27that was cool. But I gotta give a good push back something you said
- 22:30earlier, because I don't like especially espect you know, when it comes to
- 22:34writing, like the the idea that it was chat GPT or even making that
- 22:38joke, because it's like people put time and effort in the ship, whether
- 22:42or not it's like insanely great or not. It's like that's that's a problem
- 22:48that people compare it to Jeep, you know, the AI, who is
- 22:51just you're feeding something in and it's instantly feeding it back. That's what it
- 22:53felt like. Like, that's that I'm just saying I felt And I'm not
- 22:57gonna take it back like I'm not I'm not standing it from someone's tone who
- 23:02wrote this and said you suck. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying
- 23:04that. No, this didn't feel like an inspired film. It felt like
- 23:11a bunch of fantasy jargon and random shit thrown in there. And that goes
- 23:15for me, and and wait but the me, and then I could even
- 23:19take it back even further. Remember I said I have no frame of reference.
- 23:22Now, perhaps as someone with a good frame of reference, as yourself,
- 23:26you have more appreciations, you have more more ways you can look at
- 23:30it. For me, I just it just wasn't computing for me, all
- 23:34right. Now. See I didn't say this film was inspired. You know,
- 23:37I'm not sitting here growing like oh, that's just dragon. One of
- 23:40the best films I've seen this year. No, when I say it was
- 23:42the worst, I just said I didn't enjoy the bit that I saw,
- 23:45Like, easily one of the best films I've seen this year. Has put
- 23:48some boots the last wish. It's fucking incredible. You know, it is
- 23:52absolutely incredible from beginning to end. It's one of the best animated films I've
- 23:56ever seen. It's a fucking incredible movie. And it blew me when I
- 24:00could not believe how good it was because I absolutely did not expect any of
- 24:03that from that. This is not that. This is a solid movie that
- 24:07I feel like, if you're going in, like I said, looking for
- 24:10a fast and furious Marvel type film with dudgeons and dragons veneer, it's giving
- 24:15you all that in spades. And that's like all I was looking for.
- 24:18Now, whether it's like something like it's not anything like, No, it's
- 24:22not like something where I'm going to that writer's house, like, yo,
- 24:23you did that shit dog, But I'm like, you made some good jokes,
- 24:27you know, you had your you know, the storyline was it's expected.
- 24:32It's like, it's not. I didn't find it hard to follow at
- 24:33all because it's pretty predictable. That's what I mean when I'm like it's it's
- 24:38it's predicted from a logic standpoint, like I'm walking out the door now on
- 24:42my side type thing, but it's from a for me, from an engagement
- 24:45storytelling perspective. I had trouble, right, yeah, like the following I
- 24:49mean staying in the story, like being present with them I had. I
- 24:53did have trouble. Yeah, it was like comspantly questioning them as they were
- 24:57moving on it. I didn't have things like that. I was pretty engaged
- 25:00with the story, and I think it gets a little heavy handed in the
- 25:04storytelling. But at the same time that's way later though, especially the heavy
- 25:10hand in this trump's at the end of the film. It's super every ended
- 25:12towards the end where I felt like it didn't need it. But at the
- 25:15same time, I think overall it was a story that I liked and I
- 25:18liked you know, it's like it's a family story. It's and I like
- 25:22that thing. I think it's one of these movies where it's trying to resonate
- 25:25with families, especially with parents and with their kids, because it's one of
- 25:29those films about a parent and his kid. So I think that's a part
- 25:33of it that I really enjoyed. And then as well as like little things
- 25:37they did, like there's a scene I won't spoil anything about it, but
- 25:41it's a graveyard scene that I just thought that was really dope storytelling. Once
- 25:45again, it's also something kind of reminiscent of what Marvel has done in the
- 25:51ant Man films with Miguel, but in a different way where I thought it
- 25:55was really dope. That's let me finish, finish, I know, but
- 25:59let me finish like that's I'm saying. It's like when you have these like
- 26:02it doesn't have to be original if it's dope, you know, That's what
- 26:04I'm saying. If it's well done, there's nothing original about this movie.
- 26:07And I thought it was overall well done. Okay, um, did you
- 26:12like the characters designed? Hell? Yes, yes, okay, yes,
- 26:17I thought. But they're supposed to look like puppets. Wait what the characters?
- 26:21What I said where they looked like which characters? The animal characters?
- 26:26The animal half, the animals that stood on two eggs. Those I mean,
- 26:30I'm not expecting to look like real animals, you know, I'm not
- 26:34either. I mean to listen to what I'm saying. I said, they
- 26:38look like puppets, like obvious puppets to me, was that on purpose?
- 26:42I'm not sure. I thought they looked like like the half Orc or they
- 26:48introduced to the beginning of the film. I think that one or the falcon.
- 26:52The falcon thing looked silly. Yes, but I like, he's only
- 26:56in it for five seconds. It wasn't something where he's a It's a comedian
- 27:00moment too, so I don't think he was supposed to look realistic or even
- 27:03close to it realistic. I'm talking about good, just good. Good.
- 27:07Series's good. I want to be very clear, I'm not looking for perfection.
- 27:11I'm not looking for this to be an original perfect series. I was
- 27:15just looking for good. Granted, you just take a lot of what I
- 27:18said with grain salt, because I did not see nearly the whole movie,
- 27:22but the bit that I saw I had reservations, Yeah, because um yeah
- 27:32I didn't. I did not have those reservations. I thought the hot condor
- 27:36ego, whatever thing it was, that was one thing. There's uh,
- 27:40there's that, and there's just like Dragon Man and I readn't know what the
- 27:42fuck they were, because that's beyond my done the dragons from a reference,
- 27:45Okay, it just looked weird. I thought there was there's one thing from
- 27:49dragon Lands, and I thought they might be, but they're not. This
- 27:52wasn't the dragon Lands world, so that knocked it out the window. So
- 27:56I didn't know what they were. But it was cool, you know.
- 27:59I wasn't like, you know, all, what the fuck was that.
- 28:00It was more just like, all right, that was cool scene, right,
- 28:04So beyond that, like you can help me through this, like what
- 28:10compelled you the most about this film? Like, like besides like you just
- 28:12said it was fun, Like was there just something about was it just like
- 28:15a popcorn eating pleasing type films? This is, like I said, this
- 28:19is fast and furious. This is a average Marvel film. This is an
- 28:22ant Man, This is a Guardians of the Galaxy. This is not some
- 28:27deep ass. This is beginning of the summer. You know, like the
- 28:30summer season has now gone on, you know in Hollywood at least moved all
- 28:33the way up until March, so they're rolling out their average summer movies early
- 28:38now instead of putting them all in September. And this is so the movie's
- 28:42average. I never said more than that. Like I said, it's a
- 28:47good a gotcha moment. I'm trying to like really understand where you. I
- 28:52think it's a very I think it's a good movie. I don't think it's
- 28:56like, Okay, that's saying I'm I think this is one of those movies
- 28:59like in the long run, like if you were a kid growing up with
- 29:00it, this is a movie you would watch a lot, especially if you
- 29:03were in Dudgeons into Dunnets Dragons. I think this is one of those movies
- 29:07that like win It's on a Sunday on T and T before the game,
- 29:10which is one of my favorite references. I'm not turning it off because I
- 29:12know the game is coming on anyway, so why change the channel? You
- 29:15know, I'll watch the rest of the Dungeons and Dragons to the game comes
- 29:18on. That's the type of movie it is. And then especially there are
- 29:22so certain scenes that if I catch I'm like, yeah, let me watch
- 29:25that scene because I really enjoyed that, And certain characters like my man Reggae.
- 29:32Yeah, my man Bridges and like absolutely steals the show and you missed
- 29:37him entirely, and Bridget Yeah, steals the show. Bridgton plays a paladin.
- 29:41For those who know the Lord and just the memes around Dudgeons and dragons.
- 29:47Paladins are hated because they are lawful good. Their alignment is lawful good.
- 29:52Automatically they have to lawful good and they're all the way lawful good.
- 29:56They are based on clerics and fighters together, so they believe even God or
- 30:00a higher power, and they believe in themselves because of that, and so
- 30:04they used to portray the super egotistic and narcissistic and etcetera. And he plays
- 30:11it to the hilt. He absolutely kills it. Every time he was on
- 30:15screen. I was in love with him. I see why people fused with
- 30:18him on Bridgeston so tough. Yeah, yeah, he's got to be in
- 30:22Secret Invasion, so that made me look forward to it. He just absolutely
- 30:26kills it. Yes, okay, because too much and would have been too
- 30:30much? Was there were there anybun Was there something in the film that you
- 30:36wanted more of or less of? I could have used more of him just
- 30:38because he was great. But I felt like when he stepped off his ed
- 30:44sit his soul amazing. It's like, yeah, no, he was.
- 30:48He was pretty there perfect. I can't lie, you know, I could.
- 30:52Yeah, five ten more minutes maybe, but yeah, overall, no,
- 30:56I thought he was perfect. I realized Sophia Lewis um. I've never
- 31:02been that bigger fan of Justin Smith, but he was good enough in this
- 31:06role. Yeah, and there Him and Sophia's relationship was dope. So I
- 31:10liked them on screen as much as I love Fantastic I mean, not fantastic
- 31:17fast and Furious. I've never been the biggest Michelle fan, you know what
- 31:22I mean. You don't even have to use fast and furious. I'm not
- 31:25the biggest Michell fan, but I do like and I know a lot of
- 31:30people like her because of what she represents, and so I funk with that,
- 31:34you know what I mean. And yeah, I thought she did a
- 31:37very good job. She played a Barbarian, and she is a Barbarian to
- 31:41the hilt in this role. And I thought the writing was great around her.
- 31:45There's some you know, great character moments, like I say, her
- 31:49she's involved in a big cameo that I'm not gonna say anything about, but
- 31:52it's a great scene with her and this other actor who shows up in the
- 31:56film. And I liked her in it. Yeah, Like I think the
- 32:00writing around her is what really made me like her, because they really lean
- 32:05into the barbarian idea, Like they really lean into these archetypes of dudgeons and
- 32:09dragons, like the druid, the barbarian, the barred thief, rogue type
- 32:15character that's Chris Pine. The magician who's struggling that's all justice, the paladin
- 32:23who's all about himself but also really about everyone at the same time, you
- 32:29know, really leans into that well. So I thought all of them were
- 32:31very well done. Um I thought Pine specifically. Look, I've grown to
- 32:38like Chris Pine as he's gotten older. I feel like he like grew into
- 32:42his face or some shit where it's like now I'm feeling him, you know,
- 32:45God Like, I mean, I know, the dude's you know,
- 32:47amazingly handsome. That's not what I'm talking about that, But okay, look,
- 32:52you know he's one of them cats. I promise you if you met
- 32:54him a person, you'd be like, Okay, I get why they pay
- 32:57you the big bucks. It's like I never understood jew law and then I
- 33:00met Ju Long person. I was like, this nigga's you know, stunning
- 33:04in verson like it's crazy, you know, like that's why you get millions
- 33:07of dollars, and that's why I'm sitting here interviewing you. You know,
- 33:10it's a difference like these dudes, it's it's something about him. So I'm
- 33:14sure Chris Pine, and like, I know Chris Pine gets love for that,
- 33:16right, But as he's gotten older, I think his face and he's
- 33:21he's got I don't know, it's just he's got this more weight to him
- 33:24as an actor. And so that's why I've enjoyed him in He was in
- 33:28this dope series on one of the streamers I can't remember, but I like
- 33:31that and I loved him a wonder Woman. He was one of the best
- 33:36parts of Wonder Woman to me, and I thought he was really good at
- 33:37this Like he portrays the father, That's what I'm saying. He's he's grown
- 33:40into that fatherly role and he comes off as someone who's had kids and can
- 33:45relate to that and does that well in this movie. Yeah, Okay,
- 33:51it wasn't like where I think, you know, he's like the emotional weight
- 33:55of the movie, and I'm not one hundred percent where I was like,
- 33:58oh, you know, like there's movements even in the like slight Marvel movies
- 34:02where all tear up or something, and this one didn't get me to that
- 34:06point, you know. And I know it was trying up points and that's
- 34:08why I mean with the heavy handedness with his story, I think that was
- 34:12my problem. But there was like this, it's it's like they're trying to
- 34:15make this reference, and I think they were like they needed to make it,
- 34:17so they went a little too heavy ended. But if they didn't,
- 34:21I wouldn't even have gotten the reference. So it's one of those damned if
- 34:23you do, maybe you need a better reference. May not do that reference.
- 34:28And if it's hard to convey. That's the thing though. That's the
- 34:31thing with filmmaking. It's like if you don't do it, then you know,
- 34:36then what's the point. Like at least attempted like they were attempted to
- 34:38do something. It didn't work. I'm not, but they were attempting to
- 34:44do something in a movie that would not have that type of stuff in it
- 34:45anyway, you know. So that's the thing. It's like I thought that,
- 34:50you know, because it was like why is this in the scene,
- 34:52And then later on it's like, oh, that's why I was in that
- 34:53sense, given them the points where they attempt the execution man I had gone.
- 34:59Over all, it might have been a little too heavy handed from my
- 35:01taste, But then again, maybe that's what they needed to get the senior
- 35:05cross, you know. Like, like I said, there was nothing in
- 35:07this movie where I was like, oh, what the fuck? It was
- 35:08more like, oh, this movie school. You know. This is not
- 35:12like something where I'm like yo, yo, y'all, y'all gotta rush out
- 35:15to see this. But like I said, if you're a fan of Dudgeons,
- 35:16the Dragons, if you're a fan of you know, the Marvel Fast
- 35:20and Furious formula, then you'll enjoy this. Like I said, if you're
- 35:23a summer you know, popcorn joints Sunday afternoon with the kids, mattenee,
- 35:28if they still got them, you know, definitely worth it. How would
- 35:30you say the sound was, like, just in terms of the scoring,
- 35:34like do you think like they have the right beats, the right noises at
- 35:37this right time, like like sometimes so so not remarkable, okay, because
- 35:44sometimes, especially films like this, when they try to make things epic,
- 35:46they actually have a really good scoring. I missed if they did. Yeah,
- 35:51I don't know, the theme songs to the original of Dungeons the Dragons.
- 35:54I don't remember that shit. I'm not wanting them to do to,
- 35:57you know, members every theme song from their child. So I don't know,
- 36:00and I don't know of any other pieces of music that are related to
- 36:04Dungeons the Dragons. Probably been like, oh, you know, they play
- 36:07back, but there were enough Easter eggs and well or is it more sol
- 36:10references? I mean as far as like a Dungeons and Dragons references and Easter
- 36:15eggs and just being in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, there is a
- 36:20ton of that, Like there is all kinds of references to different places people
- 36:25history. This takes place, I want to say, in the Forgotten Rooms.
- 36:30I'm pretty sure about that, because Balter's data is in the Forgotten Rooms,
- 36:36and some other ship they mentioned I think is in the Forgotten Rooms.
- 36:40Forgoten Rooms is like the main setting of Dungeons the Dragons I think at this
- 36:44point it's like there, what's the world of the Lord of the Rings.
- 36:50I can't remember the name of their world or whatever, but middle Earth,
- 36:53Yeah it's not there. Yeah, Forgotten Rooms like there Middle Earth. So
- 36:59I ain't that this takes place in the Forgotten Rooms, but there is a
- 37:01massive amount of references to all kind of does the dragons shit, Like there's
- 37:06a little shit that I mean, that's what like even from the trailer,
- 37:09that's when I was like, Okay, they're really taking this. It's serially
- 37:12seriously. And the trailer they have a dragon that flies overhead and it's a
- 37:15black dragon and in the world does the dragons black dragons shoot acid or like
- 37:21oil, and this dragon flies over shooting that shit on everyone. And I
- 37:24was like, oh, let you know what I mean, there we go.
- 37:29Yeah, that's the that's the thing that like, that's what mats doudges
- 37:32the dragons, not Lord of the Rings and not this one. You know,
- 37:36it's like these little things like the color coded dragons. All the evil
- 37:40dragons are like the colors like red, black, green, blue, evil
- 37:46dragon gotta be black. But the good dragons are the you know, the
- 37:51gold that's where we are, you know, the shiners, you know what
- 37:53I mean, gold, the platon, the ice. You know. Yeah,
- 37:58that's the dragons who are the good ones. I like that. You
- 38:00know why the black dragon would be black, the red ones black too,
- 38:02I mean evil too, you know, like shit, they all I don't
- 38:06know, but you know, the silver, gold, and platinum dragons are
- 38:08like the good ones, you know, nig I see class warfare, I
- 38:15see warfare. Yeah, there's a and so there was a lot of stuff
- 38:22like that. Like I would have preferred, you know, just be a
- 38:24dragon Lance world because then I would have been on every damn reference and been
- 38:29like, oh oh, But there's just all the stuff that I do love
- 38:32like and it was bringing back so much issue from my childhood. And I
- 38:36know, there's so many more people who are ended the Dragons now because of
- 38:38critical role and how popular that became. And there's been a massive explosion and
- 38:44people playing the game now, from kids to adults to everyone. So like
- 38:47they I mean Tia Sar, the company to and West whatever the name of
- 38:52the company that owns the Blue the hell up, you know, over the
- 38:54last few years. So they are raking in the dough. And that's why
- 38:57we even have this movie now. So there's going to be people who catch
- 39:00all kinds of stuff in this film. There's I mean, there are monsters
- 39:05galore, and that's another thing that Dugs and Dragons is known for. Like
- 39:07it's very distinct monsters like the displays to beast, the gelatinous cubes, the
- 39:14you know, all the different color coded dragons, the orcs, the trolls,
- 39:17the mimics. I mean, there's just so many weird, ill things,
- 39:22you know, beholders that are mentioned, like on and on and on
- 39:27and so there's all this stuff, and there was mad stuff that I saw
- 39:30on screen that I had no idea what it was. So there's to be
- 39:31a lot of stuff for deep heads, you know, who are way deeper
- 39:35than me, who are going to really be into it. So yeah,
- 39:37okay, And there's also like the cheesy looking bird man. Yeah, the
- 39:40dude, little cheesy. I mean, it wasn't the only diffing, but
- 39:44that's besides the point. So you gave a great review, she could gave
- 39:46a grave views, and as I said, majority of critics and audience alike
- 39:52gave it grave reviews. And it's done very well apparently. That being said,
- 39:57are we going to see a sequel with the same people? Number one?
- 40:00And I'll ren see sequel And will you be there? Yeah, I've
- 40:06been there for a sequel. I wouldn't even need it to be with the
- 40:07same people, you know, I think that world of Dudgeons the Dragons is
- 40:12thorough enough. And like I said, there's so many other worlds within Dudgeons
- 40:15the Dragons, and so many different light campaign settings. I guess you would
- 40:21say that have created different worlds. Like dragon Lance and Forgotten Roans both started
- 40:25off as people just playing the game to the extent where they developed their own
- 40:30whole world and then they were like, this is good enough, and then
- 40:34they wrote modules for it, and then it became books and novels and everything
- 40:37else. So there's so much already from Dudges the Dragons. It has such
- 40:43a rich history already, just like Marvel, just like Lord of the Rings,
- 40:46like and a lot of the things in dud Dragons are directly inspired by
- 40:50Lord of the Rings obviously, like Lord of Rings is the big brand Daddy
- 40:52and these at all. You know, it inspires every one, So everyone
- 40:57took from it. But Dungeons Dragons took from it, you know, took
- 41:00from this, took from that, and then mix it all together. And
- 41:04like I said, doesn't have to be original if it's dope. So I
- 41:07grew to learn this language from Dungeons and Dragons, like even when I was
- 41:09watching Lord of the Rings a lot of that's so familiar to me because I
- 41:13knew it from Dungcheons the Dragons, and not specific Lord of Rachel. I've
- 41:15never read a one of Tolkien before I saw those films, Like, I
- 41:20knew nothing about it, but I knew Hobbits from General Shiit and Hobbits are
- 41:23like half lings, and half lings is what they have and done the dragons,
- 41:28so our direct bite of Hobbits obviously, but as a kid, I
- 41:30didn't know that. I grew up on halflings and not Hobbits. So it's
- 41:35things like that. Are the Kinder which it's fucking names like that that I
- 41:37cannot believe. I still remember that's a dragon Lands version of a Hobbit.
- 41:42Okay, So they're saying it's projected to make about sixty five million this weekend
- 41:47the global start though, sou and that's like that's based on presepts because the
- 41:52film doesn't even come out technically until Friday, right, Like they've been having
- 41:57screens and people been seeing it, and you know, is that good?
- 42:00I mean it they talked, there's talks about it might dethrone John Wick four
- 42:05you know, at the number one, but as the number one film not
- 42:07in terms of making it. No, yeah, the number one because John
- 42:12Wick has been out right, but for one week technically, so maybe as
- 42:17far as it's sixty five good. I mean it cost one hundred and fifty
- 42:20million to make. Yeah, that's why I mean, see, I look
- 42:22all right. This is something those fright because this came up in the YouTube
- 42:24comments this week about people being like, yo, well John Wicks breaking all
- 42:29the records, so you're just a hater, and I'm just like, look
- 42:30fair, I never gave a shit about how much movie costs or how much
- 42:34it makes. It never means one second to me because other than Black Pants
- 42:39are being the number one, that's all I ever cared about. Because other
- 42:43than that, it's like who cares? Because of some of my favorite movies
- 42:46never chart, you know, and I never knew how much they cost to
- 42:51make either, So I'm always just like, well, that's pool, you
- 42:53know, if it makes I would like to be number one, because I
- 42:55think John would being number one is super problematic. But that's a whole another
- 43:00episode that we're gonna have soon. So yeah, I mean that's that'd be
- 43:04nice. That'd be cool. I think observes it. It's a good movie,
- 43:07right, nobody's being shot in the face. And you said, as
- 43:13far as you know this, well they might. You don't know if there's
- 43:15two, but there's definitely one mid credit scene or after credit scene. Credit,
- 43:19there's one mid credit scene. And then our screening abruptly ended. Oh
- 43:23so like it didn't let you see the rest of the credits, just black,
- 43:27They didn't turn the lights on. It was even worse than Eternals.
- 43:30Well we weren't even the tweeting wasn't late as far as I knew, So
- 43:31why was they abrupt with it? I don't know. I don't know.
- 43:36We got no other credits after that. It was like the movie just ended.
- 43:39So um, yeah, it was a cool little mid credit scene.
- 43:43Like I said, I thought that that graveyard scene was really dope. I
- 43:47really even liked the intro. Man, I'm really surprised that you had such
- 43:51issues with it because I really like that because I just felt like he was
- 43:53talking for mad long and I was just like, I just you don't have
- 43:57to. I just don't like the narration, for I don't like long narration
- 44:01over a scene, Like it's cool to have the narration here there, or
- 44:06if there's that type of film where it's meant to having that raider that jumps
- 44:09in cool, But to me, it was just long blocks of text while
- 44:14things were happening, and I was like, I don't need to hear Man's
- 44:16right now. So and again that was that was just a very an aggregate
- 44:21small portion of the film, but it did bother me. Yeah, And
- 44:23I'm like, it's interesting because someone on Twitter they brought up something about Shazam,
- 44:29right, and they're like, I hate when people do this in movies.
- 44:30And it's when Shazam's fighting the dragon and he was like, I just
- 44:35punched the dragon, or I just threw a bus dragon. Yes, that's
- 44:37good. No, not trying to be like when they explained exactly what they
- 44:42just did, like I just do a bus at the dragon. My life
- 44:45is great. Right, So we just saw you throw the bus at the
- 44:46dragon. Right, we know you did that. And I didn't feel like
- 44:50they were doing that in that scene. But if it was that type of
- 44:52you know, that could cause the stumford because well, yeah, they didn't
- 44:54do that, I'd be like, it didn't feel like he was telling like
- 44:59he did it. Then they told as he did it. Like My thing
- 45:00is it was his musings about the life in the world, and I was
- 45:05over the musings. I was like, all right, fam, we could
- 45:07talk about your thoughts later. I'm trying to because again that goes back to
- 45:10what I said about I was starting to have trouble like even connecting because this
- 45:15Nick is talking about, you know, the facts of life and shit,
- 45:17and I'm just like, my guy, I just want to I just want
- 45:21to see what's happening right right now. I don't want to hear your voice
- 45:24right now. You could come back later, my god, but you know,
- 45:28so what I'm going to do is this weekend, or well maybe not
- 45:30this weekend because I gotta be somewhere, but I am going to go back
- 45:34to the theater and actually see it, so that candy in a regular fucking
- 45:37screen or I am act with a regular screen, not that forty shit,
- 45:40no, thank you. I'm gonna see it on a regular screen and then
- 45:45like from from the beginning to end, and I'll tell you about if there's
- 45:47another end credit but or end of criticy. But I do want to give
- 45:52it another chance because I'm like everyone in the world. Damn, they're saying,
- 45:57Yo, this is fun, this is good, and even going into
- 45:59it. I kept I told Ben. I mean when I got there,
- 46:00I said, everyone's telling me this is good me too, all right,
- 46:06I was, like I said, I was sitting there like we're you know,
- 46:08when we were talking about before, because I've heard that and then you
- 46:12backing it up maybe like for real, like everybody heard and that what we're
- 46:15saying. And I gotta apparently I gotta get with the waves because I messed
- 46:21it up, bro. I mean, you know, but it's good to
- 46:23have different opinions. And I think like this would be a movie where people
- 46:27are could be surprised that I'm so positive on it because people have been following
- 46:30me a hater a lot lately, and I'm just because people think you're a
- 46:34hater, that's why you're saying that. But I mean it's not a hater,
- 46:37no, not at all. And I really, you know, dislike
- 46:39being called that because I really just have. And it's even something where I
- 46:44don't even like someone's like, oh, you're always mad on Twitter and something,
- 46:46I'm like, I don't even bring stuff up on Twitter anymore. Like
- 46:50there's so many movies I've never I've seen that I don't even bring up because
- 46:52they're just like whatever, you know, but I bringed up things that I
- 46:55find problematic and I find and I don't even like the word problematic. Detrimental
- 47:01to society is what I was more saying. I find like the fact that
- 47:05John Wick is so popular and there's so many people see shooting people as a
- 47:08solution to things. I find that very interesting America. And that's and that
- 47:15is why I'm like, look, and we're gonna have a very special episode
- 47:19dedicated to this very soon with some special guests. But that's something that I'm
- 47:22really have an issue with. And this is someone who grew up in the
- 47:27eighties on violent action films, but like we distressed before. You know,
- 47:30I wouldn't really think about watching Robo Cop anymore because I'm like, damn,
- 47:35that's just promoting police shooting people. But that's a whole other episode. And
- 47:37so like, as far as this movie, I don't really think it's something
- 47:40where it's like they didn't do anything where I was like what the fuck?
- 47:44You know, it's like, yeah, they pushing like the you know,
- 47:47usual Hollywood agendas of this day of you know, every couple's mixed and all
- 47:51that shit, and I'm like, oh, yeah, that's cool whatever,
- 47:52you know, I don't mind that. That's fun, you know, Like
- 47:54so other than that, it's like it's not doing anything where it's like,
- 47:59oh, we really need to think about this film. It's like, no,
- 48:01just if you want something to do on a Saturday Sunday afternoon, peep
- 48:04this ship. It's you know, it's good. Were there any LGBTQ plus
- 48:07characters that you remembered? M aren't even hints like hmm, you know,
- 48:22I don't know. I felt like there was going to be and then I
- 48:25don't think it really went that way at all. Okay. The fact that
- 48:30it's not like a like a quick yes means okay, probably not yeah okay
- 48:36on wick hapny or people too busy getting shot in the face. Probably the
- 48:39latter. I was curious. I was just curious. My pronouns are blah
- 48:45blah. Ain't nobody got time for that, suck hot ones. Your pronouns
- 48:55are dead, dead and deader. Um, is this movie gonna be success
- 49:04this weekend? Hell? Yeah easily, Yeah, definitely. And it ain't
- 49:07got no comp That's the thing. That's That's another thing about like when people
- 49:10are like we're bringing on the records I'm like, they released on the weekend.
- 49:13We didn't had nothing else because all these studios are supposed to see Yeah,
- 49:16it's like nobody. Nobody releases movies up against each other anymore. No
- 49:21one does that. It's all a game of Okay, they got to speaking,
- 49:24so we'll take this weekend. That's all it is. Yeah, every
- 49:29studio knows the other studio can't release every weekend, so they're just like,
- 49:31all right, what are you doing. Okay, you got that one.
- 49:34All right, I'm gonna get this one. No one is really going like
- 49:37fuck that. I'm putting this head to head, you know, Creeds opening
- 49:39this weekend up against John Wick. Nope, Creed. It's gonna happen again
- 49:45this year. Like in the summer, I feel like there was two movies
- 49:46that are releasing, like On the Sand, and then and then they're like
- 49:49talking about moving them. I know, because there it's always like yeah,
- 49:52because it's always like that up until the end, you know, and then
- 49:54they're like, uh, yeah, could lose their job. So there's no
- 49:58box office Wars anymore. No them days is done. I think for the
- 50:01most part, like the only Wars happened when it's something like an Avatar when
- 50:06that hole just won't go away, and then it's like, well, nigga,
- 50:08I should just coming out this weekend, so you know, we gonna
- 50:12have to see what happens, you know. But that's same. No movies
- 50:15even don't go away because they go to streaming. We don't have no movies
- 50:17to do it. Five months in a row like it was way back in
- 50:22the day. You know, there's never anything like that, even Avatar,
- 50:24which you know, the last Avatar ten years ago is what like fot five
- 50:28months in a row. Now, it's like it was like a month.
- 50:30Three It was like a month three weeks. I don't think it got a
- 50:35month at number one? Can I remember the third week? There was something
- 50:38car coming against it in theaters now because it isn't created five weeks, because
- 50:45it isn't create on the way to being streamed now fot five weeks, Like
- 50:49most movies don't make number one from more than a week or two weeks to
- 50:52max, So six weeks they're out of the theaters, you know, guarantee,
- 50:58Yeah, because it ain't you know, they ain't draw on the money
- 51:00no more. Right, Um, But any other thoughts you wanted to share
- 51:02about Dungeons and Dragons. Um. No, like I said, I really
- 51:08enjoyed. Uh. Like I said, I was not expect to enjoy justice
- 51:13like I did. I did enjoy him and Sophia a lot. I really
- 51:15liked there chemistry on Spring Together. And I think just Sophia's chemistry in general.
- 51:20Um, you know Michelle, Chris, you know them. That's saying
- 51:23I know them already, so I know what they bring it to the table.
- 51:27These two I didn't really know as much, and I really liked him
- 51:29for it. Hugh Grant. I'm always up and down on him, Like
- 51:32I hated him when I first saw him in films, and then I started
- 51:36liking him in certain joints, and then when he plays an asshole, I
- 51:38really liked him, and he's an asshole in this, But I wasn't blown
- 51:42away. I don't know. Is he rude in real life? He gives
- 51:44me that I'm rude in real life. Yeah, he does, right,
- 51:45And I think that's why I didn't fuck with him, especially when he was
- 51:47young, because he was like and he was running the dude, be like,
- 51:51how do you feel about Chris Parton when they were like, oh my
- 51:52god, look, Hugh brand I'm not listening to don't like nothing. What
- 51:55do y'all talk about? Like, look at Hugh Grant for what you know
- 52:02about just a black apple and I won't do that, you know, but
- 52:07all yeah, that was one of the month. I was like, come
- 52:08on, be for real, you know, like this man, I'm not
- 52:12leading man energy. I'm sorry. No, yeah, I don't get it,
- 52:15you know. And that was Hugh Grant, but you know, as
- 52:17an asshole. I liked him, and I just figured he needed mo asshole
- 52:22in this. I think that was what it was. Really wasn't when he
- 52:24was an asshole on this I enjoyed him, But I need a mo of
- 52:28that, you know. I needed that. I needed that especially for all
- 52:30I needed that turned up to twenty. You know, he was about eight
- 52:34seven. Maybe I need that hop I need you chewing every senior in you
- 52:38know, I mean just chewing through it, like nah, I need it.
- 52:40I need villain, you know, characters to be in a different,
- 52:44like whole different ass movie than the movie that you know that he was in
- 52:47the rest of the people. I needed to be on another movie, you
- 52:51know that turned up ass movie, you know, like and then they're just
- 52:54in this movie that's how I need my village, you know, turned the
- 52:58fuck up. I, like I said, I am definitely going to take
- 53:00the time to watch the film and its entirety in a theater so I could
- 53:04get try to when I replicate, God, no, don't want to replicate
- 53:07the experience, but just to have a better experience, just from get go
- 53:13and then actually say the see the whole thing through and see what all the
- 53:16fluss is about. I'm really surprised that it's ninety percent from both critics,
- 53:22and it is how you think I felt when I said, Nigga again,
- 53:27I saw such such a small percentage of the film in hindsight, but I
- 53:30was like, nigga, y'all, I like that shit like that. And
- 53:31I was googling and it said ninety. I believe it's like ninety critics ninety
- 53:37four percent audience. That's somewhere in that range. That's insane, because I,
- 53:43like I said, I was not looking forward to it. The trailers,
- 53:45besides the little bits of things where they had the lore so on point,
- 53:49I was like, Okay, so they're taking this seriously. But I
- 53:51could already feel the marvel faster, the furious vibe from it. And I
- 53:53was like, uh, kind of getting sick of the Marvel and even Faster
- 53:58and Furious vibes sadly and so but this was like a throwback to the good
- 54:01Marvel, fast and furious vibe. So that's what it was. It like
- 54:04captured that essence, you know, and it feels like a factory of them
- 54:07film. Like I would not deny that, you know, I won't say
- 54:10it's like some chat GPT ship, but it's definitely like these niggas are like,
- 54:14Okay, this is what made its Marvel and Fast furious hit. We're
- 54:16gonna hit all these marks, you know. And they did that, you
- 54:19know, and like whether they hit those marks to the level, and also
- 54:22if you've seen them in or sick of those marks, you might be like
- 54:24that. I wasn't like yeah, I was like, okay, you're doing
- 54:28those marks, but it's working. And then there's some of Dudgeons dragon stuff
- 54:30on top of it where I'm like, hey, like I just could not
- 54:34believe it. I remembered some of this ship while I was watching the film.
- 54:37I was like, oh my god, you're a fucking dot you are.
- 54:39This is virgin for so long film. Oh definitely, like I mean,
- 54:47because I said, like I grew up, Like when I grew up,
- 54:50it was role playing games and comic books in the zap same you know,
- 54:55like love fervor. I think it's the word, right. So and
- 55:00as I grew up, I fell off role playing games, you know,
- 55:04like you I moved to RPGs on computers, etc. You know, and
- 55:07your friends we move away from each other, so you can't keep it up
- 55:09like that. And so it's like I didn't get to always play you know,
- 55:14role playing games except for on the computer and stuff. So I was
- 55:16still I still kept up on the Lord, especially like with war Hammer,
- 55:20and you know, you got me back in the painting recently. So I
- 55:22always kept up on the Lord, especially Warhammer, like I'll stay reading you
- 55:25know, wiki all night on that for no reason. But with Dungeon Dragons,
- 55:30I'm not up on it. I don't read the books like I used
- 55:32to. So this was more like it was shocking to me, you know,
- 55:37it was like, oh shit, like that's what it was so ill
- 55:39to me. It was like damn, our brains are so powerful, right,
- 55:42because it was like stuff I had not thought about or remember forever decades,
- 55:47like even the tagline honor them. On Thieves, there's an image in
- 55:52the original I want to say it's the Dungeon Master's Guide and like they're one
- 55:55of the original printings of it. There's this image of a dude's dabbing another
- 56:00dude in the back and stealing the gold from him and they're in like a
- 56:04room full of treasure and it's like, there's no honor. I'm on Steves
- 56:07was the tagline on the month. Believe that, and that image as a
- 56:10kid messed me up college because I've never heard that phrase before, and I'm
- 56:15like, oh, that's a cold blooded phrase. And you know, he
- 56:17got all this treasure around, he's still stabbing the other dude. They ain't
- 56:21no honor. I'm on Steves, Like that ship was cold blooded, So
- 56:24you know, like in that pop in my head. Yeah, because I
- 56:29didn't think about it until we're in the theater and then the tagline shows up
- 56:31on the screen. I'm like, oh, that's why it's on I'm on
- 56:35Steves because that's from that original printing in Dungeon and Dragon. So it's all
- 56:38that little stuff for me that I loved. And then they do some really
- 56:43cute stuff, like there's some really cute stuff with the dragon again, with
- 56:45the main dragon in film, not the black one. There's another dragon in
- 56:49the film that it's not in the trailer at all. And I was like,
- 56:52wow, that's that's really fucking hilarious, you know, and something I
- 56:58have not seen, you know, and you complain how trailer showed him much
- 57:01so no, and like it made me want to go back and watch the
- 57:04trailer because they show you the dragon and the trailer, but they don't show
- 57:07you what's going on with this dragon of what I'll say, you know,
- 57:12they do not show you that, and I was like, oh shit,
- 57:14Like how did they do that? Then they just they must have just like
- 57:17not shown you all of the dragon because it's you know, it's more to
- 57:21it than that. Okay, Yeah, and that sounds really great. Once
- 57:24I see it again, I'm we're gonna when we have another episode, we're
- 57:28just gonna do an a dendum. Yeah, I can just tell you how
- 57:30I feel about it fully, you know, I want to know. I
- 57:35want to I really hope like not. I don't want to like have the
- 57:37same exact reaction as you, you know, I want to have my own
- 57:39opinion, but I do hope it's better than you know seeing it in full.
- 57:45And also the things that I saw as like nagging flaws, perhaps that
- 57:50just goes away as I continue watching. Yeah, because I think people are
- 57:52gonna be really surprised by your reaction to that. I'm sure of it.
- 57:55But also from once, I'm not the hater. I'm not a hater.
- 58:00But again Green and Saw, I haven't seen the whole thing, so I
- 58:04can't give you a full full opinion quite yet. M all right, well,
- 58:09I think that is it for our view of Dungeons and Dragons, Honor
- 58:14Months, Honor o mon Thieves, which was we didn't shop them out,
- 58:17you know, since we kind of dissed and bent them up, let's shop
- 58:21out. The writers Jonathan Goldstein, John Goldstein, John Francis Daly, and
- 58:27Michael Gillow took all three of y'all and Chris McKay and was also involved on
- 58:32the story. It was directed by John Francis Daily and Jonathan Goldstein. So
- 58:37shout out to y'all, shot say everybody else involved, Like once again,
- 58:42shout out to my ram, Regie and John Age different ways, twenty different
- 58:49real ways. At least ain't doing calling you reggae John over here, bro,
- 58:52so be happy. But Black Bridgeton, you know black dude from Bridgeton,
- 58:59That's wow, that's better. Like one day he's not gonna want to
- 59:00be as soon as you be my man from Secret Evasion. So and then
- 59:06I you know that's he Yeah, and that I was thinking this made me
- 59:08so hype for Seeking Avsion because I'll the yo, dude is dope, and
- 59:12I hope they give him Mad Time and Secret of Asion now because there was
- 59:15a shot at him. I think he might be a stroll. I'm not
- 59:16sure, but there's a shot at him in the trailer where it's like five
- 59:20of him sitting in the room at once, and I was like, oh,
- 59:22that was fired. And I can't wait to see what this dude does
- 59:25now because he rules in his short time in this movie. You know.
- 59:30So I'm hyped. So yeah. Shout us to all y'all. Thank you.
