- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So I'd like to talk to you a little bit about taking the time
- 0:34to reflect on your day at the end of every day.
- 0:37Now for some people, this may seem like an arduous task and
- 0:40they just want to be done with the day and move on.
- 0:43But here's what's so important about it.
- 0:45There is not really a solid way to get better at things if you
- 0:49don't do the work and figure out where you need to shift in order
- 0:53to be better. And that can only happen through
- 0:55the process of reflection and making decisions about, you
- 1:00know, what's next. And again, that all starts with
- 1:03a debrief of yourself and what happened and being able to
- 1:08decide what that's going to mean to you.
- 1:10So some people will tell you, you know, you have to do a
- 1:14gratitude list at the end of the day.
- 1:15And I think that those are very powerful, and I do believe they
- 1:19work. But what I consider to be a
- 1:23preliminary to that is sitting down and debriefing the day and
- 1:27saying OK in a very like specific format of asking
- 1:32yourself what went well today and answering it, writing it all
- 1:36down, what could have been better and writing it all down.
- 1:40And then how do I close the gap for tomorrow so I know I don't
- 1:44repeat the same challenges from the day that I just had.
- 1:48So for me, this just shows that you're a thinking growth minded
- 1:53person and you can move forward with what you've learned from
- 1:55your day so you don't repeat the same issues.
- 1:58So often times we run into this with our kids and I think that,
- 2:02you know, school is coming back up soon and people are going to
- 2:06be getting their kids ready in the morning and out the door.
- 2:08And if I can tell you one point that most people struggle with
- 2:13it is getting ready for school and getting out the door.
- 2:17It is arduous for people because you're not the only person
- 2:21getting ready and the kids have to be on point.
- 2:24Everybody has to be in a good mood and it's often a huge hot
- 2:28button for a family. And if people have some people
- 2:31have trouble getting up in the morning and some people have,
- 2:33you know, have trouble being organized.
- 2:35This is one of the biggest hot buttons that I can tell you.
- 2:39I typically see it. And even if you don't have kids,
- 2:43it's getting out the door in the morning, getting yourself out,
- 2:46getting your partner out the door.
- 2:47You're However, even if it's just the dog, sometimes this
- 2:52drives people insane. So what I suggest is looking at
- 2:56the situation and saying, what are the hot buttons?
- 2:58Where are the things that we can improve upon, what works, what
- 3:03could be better and how do we close the gap?
- 3:05And one of the biggest things that you can do is preparation
- 3:08the night before, which is why you do the debrief the night
- 3:11before. So you have the information
- 3:13right in your hands and you don't stop until you have it
- 3:18handled and you know you're set for the next day.
- 3:21Does this seem like it's a pain in the butt to do it every
- 3:25single day? Yes, and it works.
- 3:28And when you do it every day, you might not have a long list
- 3:31on most days. It might just be a very short
- 3:33list. You've got a nice long list of
- 3:35what worked and a very short list of what didn't work.
- 3:37So you know what you can repeat, but I will tell you one of my
- 3:41greatest lessons in this was with my chickens themselves of
- 3:44like, OK, getting up in the morning, taking care of all
- 3:47these animals, taking care of my gardens, moving, taking care of
- 3:51all my plants. This is running a farm is not an
- 3:55easy thing to do. And having extreme awareness of
- 4:00what's working and what's not working makes a tremendous
- 4:03difference to your process. So I will tell you without
- 4:08question the best thing that I did was figure out what's
- 4:11working for my process in the morning because I start coaching
- 4:16very early with my clients in London and in Scotland and in
- 4:21Australia. So it's I have to be up and I
- 4:24will tell you having nailed down, OK, these are my
- 4:28processes, this is how I'm going to do things.
- 4:30Thinking about everyday, what worked, what could have been
- 4:33better, what worked, what could have been better, what worked,
- 4:35what could have been better and how do I close that gap has made
- 4:37it so much easier for me out here in the mornings.
- 4:41And it gives me time to do this for you.
- 4:43I mean, Can you imagine if I wasn't, if I wasn't having that
- 4:47happen, I would never have time to be able to do this.
- 4:50So the debriefs and then taking that information and actually
- 4:54putting it into play, actually putting it into something that
- 4:58can be utilized is the power of the information.
- 5:02Because having the information is just one thing, but having
- 5:04the power of using that information is a completely
- 5:07different thing. You know, are you going to have
- 5:10all the smarts in the whole world?
- 5:11But if you don't use the skills that you've been given, they
- 5:15mean nothing. And this is where it comes into
- 5:17play in a big way. So I'm going to challenge you
- 5:20guys to go off today. Spend your day and debrief
- 5:24yourself at the end of it. Sometimes some of my clients
- 5:27like to do it throughout the day.
- 5:28I personally was just an end of the day girl and I like to write
- 5:31it all down at at the end of my day.
- 5:34But some people like to do it throughout their day.
- 5:36They just keep a little notes in their phone and they say, OK,
- 5:39here's my debrief for the end of the day.
- 5:40And then they work on the what could have been better as well
- 5:44through at the end of the day. So it's not just that they're,
- 5:46they're just kind of capturing the whole thing throughout the
- 5:49day. But at the end they write it all
- 5:50down. It doesn't matter which way you
- 5:52do it as long as you get it done, but then you utilize that
- 5:55information and you help yourself grow it and get to the
- 5:57next level. So go out there, challenge
- 6:00yourself, figure it out and debrief yourself because that's
- 6:04how you get to that next level of greatness.
- 6:07I hope you guys have a fantastic day and I will see you all
- 6:11tomorrow. Take care.
- 6:12Bye.
