Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Well, I bet you all wish you were a four
- 0:03Speaker 1: point three percenter. Right about now, the Twins are back
- 0:06Speaker 1: three straight victories forty five and forty seven overall. After
- 0:11Speaker 1: winning the series opener against Cleveland on Tuesday night at
- 0:15Speaker 1: Target Field. They are just three games back in the
- 0:18Speaker 1: AL Central and somehow, despite everything, staying in this race
- 0:23Speaker 1: and making things very interesting as we get close to
- 0:26Speaker 1: the All Star break. This is Twins Cities Territory, You're
- 0:29Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins podcast on the Foul Territory Network. I am
- 0:32Speaker 1: Zach Pierce of the Athletic Joint is Always by Dan Hayes,
- 0:35Speaker 1: The Athletics, Minnesota Twins beat writer and Tyler Duffy, longtime
- 0:38Speaker 1: Major leaguer and former Minnesota Twin, two straight wins against
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Yankees to end that series and make it six
- 0:46Speaker 1: out of seven series that they've won. Now and now
- 0:48Speaker 1: they start off this very important Cleveland series right before
- 0:51Speaker 1: the break with the victory. Dan vibes are high right now.
- 0:55Speaker 1: A lot of compliments on Twitter last night X whatever
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's called. Things going well, Well, how was how was
- 1:01Speaker 1: it at the ballpark?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Well? I mean, this team believes, they believed for a
- 1:07Speaker 2: little while, but they believe, we believe that we win. Yes,
- 1:14Speaker 2: that's San Diego State. I know, I know that's soccer,
- 1:17Speaker 2: but at San Diego State anyways, thirty five point six
- 1:19Speaker 2: percent chance of making the playoffs according to fangrafts, twenty
- 1:22Speaker 2: one point eight percent chance of making the thirty five
- 1:28Speaker 2: points thirty five.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Okay, okay, that makes.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Growing though with every with every like you look at
- 1:35Speaker 2: where they are right now, and you guys remember a
- 1:38Speaker 2: month ago we were talking about where this team was
- 1:39Speaker 2: eight games under five hundred season worse after that Kansas
- 1:43Speaker 2: City series, and that was ugly, and since then they've
- 1:46Speaker 2: started playing much better defense. It was really interesting to
- 1:50Speaker 2: see Cleveland being the ones kicking the ball around last
- 1:53Speaker 2: night and giving away mistake like making mistakes that were critical. Uh,
- 1:58Speaker 2: the Twins played clean baseball. Toaj Bradley was just unbelievably good.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And you know, the last couple of starts, he'd had
- 2:07Speaker 2: shorter starts because he had sat forever and the offense
- 2:11Speaker 2: was piling up runs for him. Last night was not
- 2:14Speaker 2: the case where the offense they got three, They did
- 2:17Speaker 2: their job and got enough, although they could use more.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But Taj Bradley engineered that victory. Todd Bradley. TODJ. Bradley
- 2:25Speaker 2: basically put them on his back and carried them and
- 2:28Speaker 2: it was a plus stuff, you know. Zach Meisler, our
- 2:32Speaker 2: Cleveland Guardians reporter at the Athletic, fed me some great
- 2:35Speaker 2: quotes from Reese Hoskins, who actually got the one home
- 2:39Speaker 2: run off of TODJ. Bradley, and from Steven Vote, and
- 2:42Speaker 2: both of them were just extremely compromary of Bradley's outing.
- 2:46Speaker 2: His cutter was electric. His fastball hit ninety nine to six.
- 2:50Speaker 2: His cutter generated seventeen swings and misses. He had twenty
- 2:54Speaker 2: five swings and misses overall in one hundred and one pitches.
- 2:57Speaker 2: He was just unhittable. And the Twins now it feels
- 3:02Speaker 2: like they with him on this role, and it's it's
- 3:04Speaker 2: been four great starts in a row from him after
- 3:07Speaker 2: three after one eh like you could see light at
- 3:11Speaker 2: the end of the tunnel is how he described it,
- 3:13Speaker 2: and three slump starts before that. But this is looking
- 3:16Speaker 2: like Todd Bradley pre pectoral muscle injury back in April
- 3:20Speaker 2: and May. And if the Twins have him and Joe
- 3:22Speaker 2: Ryan going like this man, that's a great one two
- 3:25Speaker 2: punch to have at the start of rotation, especially when
- 3:28Speaker 2: you have some young guys who are thrown behind them
- 3:30Speaker 2: well enough to get you through at a very important time.
- 3:34Speaker 2: July is so important. They know it, and this was
- 3:37Speaker 2: a good victory to start this critical series.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Seven innings, pitch, three hits, one and run, ten strikeouts,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and a bunch of swings and missus Dan a notable amount.
- 3:48Speaker 2: What was that stat that you that you gave us
- 3:50Speaker 2: five swings and misses and one hundred and one pitches.
- 3:52Speaker 2: That is the fourth most swings and misses by a
- 3:55Speaker 2: pitcher this year. It's one hundred and fifty first since
- 3:58Speaker 2: Baseball Savant started keeping track of it, which goes back
- 4:01Speaker 2: to two thousand and eight. So out of all the
- 4:03Speaker 2: start of all the pitching performances in the last nineteen years,
- 4:07Speaker 2: that was the one hundred and fifty first most swings
- 4:09Speaker 2: and misses, which you know, you're like, all right, is
- 4:12Speaker 2: it that significant? Yeah, one hundred and fifty first, tied
- 4:14Speaker 2: for one fifty one. It's pretty damn good when you
- 4:17Speaker 2: consider how many thousands and thousands and thousands of pitchers
- 4:21Speaker 2: have thrown in that span. And you know, the cutter
- 4:26Speaker 2: the only time in the Baseball Savant era that the
- 4:30Speaker 2: cutter has generated more swings and missus John Lackey and
- 4:33Speaker 2: twenty thirteen and Louis Garcia from Houston. Not that Louis
- 4:37Speaker 2: Garcia pitchpens this year, he and twenty twenty three, both
- 4:41Speaker 2: of them were able to get nineteen swings and misses
- 4:43Speaker 2: with their cutters. But I mean that just demonstrates how
- 4:47Speaker 2: good this pitch was going to throw more. Yeah, you know, duff,
- 4:51Speaker 2: what like when what is it?
- 4:54Speaker 3: Like?
- 4:54Speaker 2: They were talking about how he was tunneling effectively those Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 2: you saw the splitter kind of the splitter wouldants away
- 5:00Speaker 2: from lefties and the cutter was dancing at the bottom
- 5:04Speaker 2: of zone into them. It seemed like like when you
- 5:07Speaker 2: pair those with a ninety nine mile an hour fastball,
- 5:10Speaker 2: I mean that has to feel like that's a great
- 5:13Speaker 2: feeling for the for the guy throwing those pitches.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Yes, the proverbial like you feel like if you plug
- 5:19Speaker 4: Taj's stuff into me and put me on the mount,
- 5:22Speaker 4: it'd be like playing a video game like it is
- 5:25Speaker 4: like here's ninety nine, and then this next pitch looks
- 5:29Speaker 4: like ninety nine, and then it's gonna go straight down
- 5:31Speaker 4: at ninety three miles an hour, and that's what that
- 5:34Speaker 4: cutter is.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And it's when hitters have to be geared up.
- 5:37Speaker 4: For what you have at that top of that strike
- 5:40Speaker 4: zone with like the TAJ when he's reaching back for
- 5:42Speaker 4: one hundred, it's impossible to cover both. It's just frankly
- 5:46Speaker 4: and all three for that matter. And and the ball
- 5:49Speaker 4: that Reese Hoskins hit is a result of the location
- 5:52Speaker 4: of that fastball, because that's the only way a guy
- 5:55Speaker 4: can hit a fastball like Taj is is if you
- 5:57Speaker 4: miss down in the zone like that. But when he's
- 5:59Speaker 4: peppering the and filling up the zone, that was what
- 6:02Speaker 4: the biggest thing with him, you know, in that series
- 6:06Speaker 4: in Detroit when I think he had just come back
- 6:08Speaker 4: and he was kind of spraying it a little, and
- 6:09Speaker 4: then thinking Texas had a little you know, if you control.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Here and there.
- 6:14Speaker 4: But when he's in the zone, it makes it there's
- 6:17Speaker 4: just pressure from all angles as a hitter, and then
- 6:21Speaker 4: he backs it up with a cutter. You know, it's
- 6:23Speaker 4: basically a bottoms out slider and then a splitter behind that.
- 6:26Speaker 4: It's just it's impossible to be ready for everything. And
- 6:29Speaker 4: when he's in the zone and efficient, you know he's
- 6:32Speaker 4: at one hundred and one pitches through seven, like he's
- 6:34Speaker 4: not even sore from yesterday's game. Like that's that's when
- 6:36Speaker 4: you get done. You're feeling good about yourself. You know,
- 6:39Speaker 4: the adrenaline is high. You know, you don't feel like
- 6:42Speaker 4: you threw a hundred pitches today, but you know that
- 6:44Speaker 4: five innings in one hundred or even less, that's when
- 6:47Speaker 4: you get beat up. And that's that's him developing and
- 6:50Speaker 4: probably realizing like, hey, just get it in there and
- 6:52Speaker 4: attack and and everything will work out for you because
- 6:55Speaker 4: the stuff is unhittable and that's the result.
- 6:58Speaker 3: We saw it last night.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Thanks to my daughter for the cameo there. If you're
- 7:03Speaker 1: watching on YouTube.
- 7:04Speaker 3: There's a ghost Tyler.
- 7:08Speaker 1: What does it feel like to be in a zone
- 7:10Speaker 1: like that? Do you just know it? Do you know
- 7:11Speaker 1: it beforehand? You know it like early on, like.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah, man, it's warming up sometimes.
- 7:17Speaker 4: And like a lot of guys, you know, they have
- 7:19Speaker 4: these great games, you know, no hitters whatever. You know,
- 7:21Speaker 4: my bullpen before the game was terrible. I couldn't hit
- 7:24Speaker 4: the catcher as bouncing everything whatever. But you get out
- 7:27Speaker 4: there and what I've like, I compare it to like
- 7:30Speaker 4: the balls doing what I'm telling it to do.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Is what I've always said.
- 7:33Speaker 4: It just it comes out of the fingertips and it
- 7:35Speaker 4: goes exactly where you're looking.
- 7:37Speaker 3: It's doing exactly what you want it to. You know,
- 7:40Speaker 3: Joe looks like he's in that flow state right now.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Todds for that matter, I mean, even all our guys,
- 7:46Speaker 4: it seems like they've harnessed like, Okay, this is my zone,
- 7:50Speaker 4: this is where I need to be. You know, the
- 7:52Speaker 4: Pete and the guys behind with the pitching group are
- 7:54Speaker 4: all getting these guys ready to go out and attack,
- 7:56Speaker 4: and it seems like they're not having to think a
- 7:58Speaker 4: whole lot, which is what you want, you know. And
- 8:01Speaker 4: to the bullpen for the back end, for that matter,
- 8:03Speaker 4: like guys have really seemed to settle in. You know,
- 8:06Speaker 4: Morris comes in last night, he's hitting a hundred, like
- 8:08Speaker 4: he's everybody just don't even look at him.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Just give him whatever he needs, you know, let him
- 8:12Speaker 3: be out there.
- 8:13Speaker 4: And you know it's it's when we've talked about all season,
- 8:16Speaker 4: like guys starting rotation, suering up, helps the bullpen sure up,
- 8:20Speaker 4: which helps everybody pitch better. We're kind of hitting that stride,
- 8:24Speaker 4: you know, going into the break and so it's one
- 8:27Speaker 4: everybody you know, for that few days they're off.
- 8:29Speaker 3: You know, just stay right there.
- 8:31Speaker 4: It'll be the tricky part because sometimes that little layoff
- 8:33Speaker 4: will get you. But no, it's been fun to watch
- 8:36Speaker 4: these guys pitch and they're just attacking guys and they
- 8:39Speaker 4: can't hit it.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So keep going.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Just don't ask him about that slump, right Dan in
- 8:45Speaker 1: late May, he doesn't want to talk about.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Taj has been like you could sense it in spring
- 8:51Speaker 2: training that this was a different guy who was more
- 8:54Speaker 2: comfortable this year with the Twins. Last year he came
- 8:58Speaker 2: over midseason that trade for Griffin Jackson, and you're just
- 9:01Speaker 2: out of sorts at that point, right, you got traded
- 9:02Speaker 2: from the Rays, the only place you ever knew, and
- 9:05Speaker 2: you're trying to find your way. And immediately this year
- 9:08Speaker 2: he's felt comfortable and it kind of disappeared a little
- 9:11Speaker 2: bit when he got hurt. I mean, he was on
- 9:13Speaker 2: just such a role I think it was foreign to it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You know, was just striking out guys right and left.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It was like fifty two and forty seven innings before
- 9:20Speaker 2: the injury. And he came back and he did slump and
- 9:22Speaker 2: like I'm still I still remember the reaction in Detroit,
- 9:25Speaker 2: and he just looked lost. And so one of one
- 9:28Speaker 2: of the writers last night asked him about the slump
- 9:31Speaker 2: and getting past it, and he said, I'm going to
- 9:35Speaker 2: leave that stuff three weeks ago. I ain't trying to
- 9:39Speaker 2: talk about that. We're in a good state of mind
- 9:42Speaker 2: right now. We're going to think about today. He said,
- 9:45Speaker 2: I don't think we're grinding. We're just having fun. It's
- 9:48Speaker 2: all smiles and dugout. It smiles and plays being made.
- 9:51Speaker 2: And he just went on about the team and how
- 9:54Speaker 2: like people are just having a good time. We're yelling,
- 9:56Speaker 2: the dugout, the locker room is phenomenal. Everybody's having a
- 9:59Speaker 2: good time. Bus rides, plane rides, everything is all smiles
- 10:03Speaker 2: on all cylinders. Instead of grinding, we're just having fun.
- 10:06Speaker 2: That's a dude who is enjoying the moment like he's
- 10:11Speaker 2: just and you can tell like when he's on, when
- 10:14Speaker 2: he's feeling right, it's gonna be like this more often
- 10:18Speaker 2: than not. And that's very good for the Twins because
- 10:21Speaker 2: this is a rotation that lost Pablo Lopez at the start.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Mick Abel just had arthroscopic surgery. I think we're gonna
- 10:27Speaker 2: see Bailey over before the weekend is out. Bailey Over
- 10:30Speaker 2: should be back and an in and you know, but
- 10:34Speaker 2: with Pablo and Abel out, you're like, where is the
- 10:37Speaker 2: out's gonna come from? And you know, Connor pre Lip
- 10:40Speaker 2: has stepped up, Zebbie Matthews has stepped up, Mike Parade
- 10:43Speaker 2: has has stepped up and giving him innings. But you know,
- 10:47Speaker 2: the Taj coming up like this has been absolutely huge
- 10:51Speaker 2: for this team because seven innings like that and it's
- 10:54Speaker 2: happened a lot. That's just saves the bullpen and gives
- 10:59Speaker 2: you a really good chance to win.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You can read more about Taj's start on the athletic
- 11:05Speaker 1: right now. It's the subject of Dan's latest story this morning,
- 11:09Speaker 1: and we will be right back on Twin City's territory.

- 12:18Speaker 1: We have talked in previous shows about the Twins' success
- 12:22Speaker 1: this season hitting with two outs and runners in scoring position,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and that was once again a big factor on Tuesday
- 12:31Speaker 1: Nights win Dan. The second inning was a gift all around.
- 12:34Speaker 1: The Twins got the first three base runners on thanks
- 12:37Speaker 1: to infield balls that gave the Guardians fits. There was
- 12:41Speaker 1: an error, a fielder's choice that didn't work out two fielders' choices.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I guess that didn't work out. But then Brooksley and
- 12:49Speaker 1: Cody Clemmens later on in the game in the seventh
- 12:51Speaker 1: with the triple yeah, both with two outs to drive
- 12:54Speaker 1: home the two runs that ended up winning the game.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, We've talked about that, talked about the last show,
- 13:00Speaker 2: and it just keeps having a big impact because you know,
- 13:04Speaker 2: you if you are going through it last night like
- 13:09Speaker 2: Joey Cantillo was, and your defense is given away free
- 13:13Speaker 2: bases like that, and you know you think you might
- 13:17Speaker 2: get out of it, you give up the sackfly and
- 13:20Speaker 2: you can accept that. I'm guessing, Duff, we'll get to
- 13:23Speaker 2: the second. But you give up the game time sacrifly.
- 13:26Speaker 2: But you're like a basis loaded jam that was really
- 13:28Speaker 2: no fault of your own, and they tie it. You know,
- 13:31Speaker 2: there's the tie. But brooks Lee then singles with two
- 13:34Speaker 2: outs and brings in the go ahead run, and that
- 13:38Speaker 2: has to be so deflating because Joey Cantilla did nothing
- 13:42Speaker 2: to put himself in that position. Really, aside from the
- 13:45Speaker 2: brooks Lee single, which by the way, was just smoked
- 13:47Speaker 2: right up the middle.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Maybe he could have hustled the first base a little
- 13:50Speaker 1: more on the third of the three in field, there's
- 13:52Speaker 1: a bit.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder if there's some dejection in that, Like,
- 13:57Speaker 2: my guys are just giving this away, and it's like,
- 14:01Speaker 2: where where is this coming from? Because they made they
- 14:03Speaker 2: had another play the next inning where they gave an
- 14:06Speaker 2: out a way too. I mean, he only got five
- 14:08Speaker 2: innings and he was not pitching poorly, and like the
- 14:12Speaker 2: defense just did him no favors. But those two outs,
- 14:15Speaker 2: like duff, what is that feeling like when you give
- 14:17Speaker 2: up that two out single, especially in that spot.
- 14:21Speaker 4: It's tough, the big thing, and you see it, you
- 14:25Speaker 4: know with younger guys especially, it happens sometimes. You sometimes
- 14:29Speaker 4: that comes out, you know physically, you drop the shoulders,
- 14:32Speaker 4: you throw the hands up, whatever. It is such a
- 14:35Speaker 4: like just a helpless feeling because you're you're executing, you're
- 14:38Speaker 4: doing your job, and it's just not happening. And that's
- 14:41Speaker 4: like baseball in a nutshell. You can do everything right
- 14:43Speaker 4: and lose. And and that's the perfect example of it.
- 14:47Speaker 4: And and even on the broadcast they were talking about
- 14:50Speaker 4: it like it's just that was one of those innings
- 14:51Speaker 4: where Cleveland doesn't do that, and it won the Twins
- 14:55Speaker 4: the game like that.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That was basically the ball game right there.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Once they give up those two you know, the couple
- 15:00Speaker 4: of misplays or whatever, you know, feeler's choices and then
- 15:02Speaker 4: run comes across, that's all you needed.
- 15:05Speaker 3: And the Twins didn't do that.
- 15:07Speaker 4: And we kind of talked about that going into the series,
- 15:09Speaker 4: like it's going to be a low scoring affair. You know,
- 15:12Speaker 4: both teams can pitch. Defense is going to be the priority,
- 15:15Speaker 4: and it showed itself last night. And you know, the
- 15:18Speaker 4: Twins keeping up to the whatever their incredible numbers are with
- 15:22Speaker 4: runners in scoring position like.
- 15:23Speaker 3: That, that won them the game.
- 15:24Speaker 4: And you know it's we kind of hit on the
- 15:27Speaker 4: bolt and everything's kind of hitting a stride. And if
- 15:30Speaker 4: you can win games three to one against Cleveland, who
- 15:32Speaker 4: you need to be Like, that's that's all you can
- 15:34Speaker 4: ask for.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Cantillo lasted five innings, gave up six hits and three walks,
- 15:40Speaker 1: but no earned runs. TODs Bradley actually gave up more
- 15:44Speaker 1: earned runs than Cantillo in the game, but that that
- 15:46Speaker 1: second inning certainly did them in Twins. Like we said,
- 15:51Speaker 1: forty five and forty seven, we mentioned three games out
- 15:54Speaker 1: in the Central also a game and a half out
- 15:57Speaker 1: in the wildcard race, which maybe starting to have a
- 16:00Speaker 1: little separation with that logjam. That Astro is also a
- 16:04Speaker 1: game and a half back Rangers occupying the last spot,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and then Cleveland just above them a half game ahead,
- 16:09Speaker 1: so there's that a four team cluster there going after
- 16:13Speaker 1: two spots. Obviously the Central is still in play as well,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but if the Twins can win two more games against Cleveland,
- 16:19Speaker 1: they'll be the new second place team in the AL Central.
- 16:22Speaker 1: And they have been on a roll since the morning
- 16:26Speaker 1: of June fourteenth. They woke up the morning of June
- 16:28Speaker 1: fourteenth thirty two and forty and since then they are
- 16:33Speaker 1: top five in average ops, runs scored and starting pitcher
- 16:38Speaker 1: ERA in the league. The one loss record is thirteen
- 16:40Speaker 1: and seven, which is fifth best in the league, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: the one thing that remains a sticking point is the
- 16:46Speaker 1: bullpen era, but that is right about on par with
- 16:49Speaker 1: what they've had all season of five to one to
- 16:50Speaker 1: nine ERA there. But it's been a nice streak. It
- 16:54Speaker 1: reminds a little bit of that eleven and seven start
- 16:57Speaker 1: to the season.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Dan They have been streaky like this all year, except
- 17:02Speaker 2: this time it feels like there's some staying power because
- 17:05Speaker 2: the offense has just been going and it's been from
- 17:08Speaker 2: multiple spots, and I think that has just been helpful
- 17:11Speaker 2: for them that they're not relying just on Byron Buckston.
- 17:14Speaker 2: In the past we've seen them rely just on Byron
- 17:17Speaker 2: Buston or you know, like the ops is in June
- 17:22Speaker 2: with so many guys above eight hundred was outstanding. And
- 17:26Speaker 2: again it's Josh Bell and Brooks Lee with runners in
- 17:29Speaker 2: scoring position. Their overall numbers aren't that sexy, but their
- 17:33Speaker 2: RBI totals are huge. Royce Lewis continues to be just
- 17:36Speaker 2: a threat, which I think gives them that middle of
- 17:40Speaker 2: the order that gives Bell and Lee some of those
- 17:43Speaker 2: pitches that they have some protection because pitchers are afraid
- 17:46Speaker 2: royce Lewis has gonna take them deep or come through
- 17:48Speaker 2: in a spot. And Vic Kartini just had a monster June.
- 17:54Speaker 2: They're about to get Ryan Jeffers back too. Ryan Jeffers
- 17:57Speaker 2: is just hitting the cover off the ball at Triple
- 18:01Speaker 2: A since he's been back over the weekend. I mean,
- 18:04Speaker 2: like looks like Bailey over. We caught him at the
- 18:06Speaker 2: end of the game last night in the clubhouse and
- 18:08Speaker 2: asked him about his outing Saturday, and he uh, he
- 18:12Speaker 2: said it was great to have Jeffers back there behind
- 18:14Speaker 2: the plate catching him, but asked him how he looks
- 18:16Speaker 2: at the plate, and he's like, doesn't look like he
- 18:19Speaker 2: skipped a beat? Like they're going to add that back
- 18:21Speaker 2: back into this lineup that's already jelling as it is.
- 18:25Speaker 2: They're in a good spot, and really you feel it
- 18:28Speaker 2: every time you walk in that clubhouse. Even when they lose,
- 18:31Speaker 2: they're not you know, things aren't down. One stat that
- 18:35Speaker 2: we didn't mention there that I've noticed is they they're
- 18:38Speaker 2: getting better on their defensive runs safe. And it's not
- 18:41Speaker 2: it's not huge, but I think they were minus thirty
- 18:44Speaker 2: four as a team and dead last in the majors
- 18:47Speaker 2: about ten days ago. They are now minus twenty seven.
- 18:51Speaker 2: So they've cleaned it up a little bit. And you
- 18:53Speaker 2: know that just has to do with Shorts, Keyshaw and
- 18:58Speaker 2: right Yeah, Keyshaw and right with started the year with
- 19:02Speaker 2: Matt Wallner being the worst defensive right fielder in baseball
- 19:05Speaker 2: by a ton and Ryan Kreidler at shortstop making diving
- 19:09Speaker 2: plays like you did last night, that diving grab. But
- 19:11Speaker 2: to end it was off Stephen Kwan's bat Stephen Kuan
- 19:14Speaker 2: hit two missiles last night and they both were the
- 19:17Speaker 2: left side, typical Stephen Kuan hits and both found gloves.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Those are the kinds of plays that used to He'd
- 19:23Speaker 2: get on and start a rallying kill them. Kreydler makes
- 19:28Speaker 2: the diving stop and you know they've cleaned it up
- 19:31Speaker 2: at shortstop too, And that's just it's a fun brand
- 19:35Speaker 2: of baseball that they're playing. It's the kind that fans
- 19:37Speaker 2: should be enjoying, because like last night was like a
- 19:40Speaker 2: two hour and how long, two hour and thirty minute game,
- 19:43Speaker 2: two hour and clean, crisp, timely hitting, Yeah, snappy, just
- 19:49Speaker 2: like this commentary right here.
- 19:51Speaker 3: So well, I remember the.
- 19:57Speaker 1: A week ago after the Colorado series, we were looking
- 20:01Speaker 1: at this twelve game stretch to the All Star Break,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and it was three in Houston, three in New York,
- 20:05Speaker 1: three against Cleveland, and then the Angels still coming up.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Obviously Houston and the Yankees right now not what they
- 20:12Speaker 1: have been in recent years, but nevertheless, road series tough
- 20:14Speaker 1: places to play. And we said at the time the
- 20:19Speaker 1: Twins were five games under five hundred. If they have
- 20:21Speaker 1: a bad stretch at twelve games, they could end up
- 20:23Speaker 1: right back around eight games under, which is their season
- 20:26Speaker 1: low so far, or if they have a good stretch
- 20:28Speaker 1: at twelve games, they could be making a real argument
- 20:31Speaker 1: to be buyers at the deadline. And so far stretch
- 20:34Speaker 1: of that twelve game stretch obviously not over yet, but
- 20:36Speaker 1: five and two to start it off, all of a sudden,
- 20:38Speaker 1: like they could be above five hundred at the All
- 20:40Speaker 1: Star break, Tyler, And just like it's such a long season,
- 20:44Speaker 1: but these little stretches have such a big impact.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've heard it before.
- 20:50Speaker 4: You know, you kind of break it down into ten
- 20:53Speaker 4: games series over and over again for the season to
- 20:55Speaker 4: kind of keep it from getting, you know, out of hand,
- 20:59Speaker 4: you know, And they're hot right now. They're playing teams
- 21:01Speaker 4: that are going to be contending. That's the biggest thing
- 21:03Speaker 4: I think I take away is, you know, we had
- 21:05Speaker 4: the Dodgers series whatever, They're going to be there at
- 21:08Speaker 4: the end of the year no matter what. But the
- 21:10Speaker 4: two teams we just went through, New York and Houston
- 21:12Speaker 4: are teams that are trying to win, that are going
- 21:15Speaker 4: to be relevant, and then Cleveland for that matter, is
- 21:17Speaker 4: doing the same and that should be a positive for
- 21:20Speaker 4: everybody watching these guys right now.
- 21:22Speaker 3: We're in the mix with everybody.
- 21:24Speaker 4: You know, are we being carried at times by you know, pitching,
- 21:28Speaker 4: you know, Joe or Taj maybe, but our hitting, it's
- 21:31Speaker 4: been everybody all year. It hasn't been one singular guy
- 21:35Speaker 4: that's doing all the heavy lifting. And it seems like
- 21:38Speaker 4: we're getting pieces coming back in. Jeffers like they're gonna
- 21:41Speaker 4: have to make a decision on what to do with
- 21:42Speaker 4: the catchers at this point, like how do we split tight?
- 21:45Speaker 4: Like we're we're almost about to have a surplus of
- 21:47Speaker 4: things that we haven't even begun to think about since
- 21:50Speaker 4: the beginning of the season because pitchers have been hurt.
- 21:53Speaker 3: You know, Royce was doing his thing before he went
- 21:56Speaker 3: to Triple A.
- 21:57Speaker 4: It was just so many like what ifs, And now
- 21:59Speaker 4: it's like, oh, what do we do with all these
- 22:01Speaker 4: guys we have now?
- 22:02Speaker 3: And it's a good problem to have.
- 22:04Speaker 4: It's something that's you know, like, like I said, it
- 22:07Speaker 4: wasn't something that anyone was expecting. And here we are
- 22:10Speaker 4: with an opportunity to be five hundred or better going
- 22:12Speaker 4: into the break and really making a statement to the
- 22:15Speaker 4: front office and fans like, hey, we're ready to do
- 22:18Speaker 4: this thing.
- 22:19Speaker 3: And uh, you know, there's gonna be some decisions that
- 22:21Speaker 3: have to be made, and I'm glad I'm not making up.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Yeah, heydiot, Yeah, Alex Jackson has got to be very
- 22:29Speaker 2: interesting call coming up here. Because Alex Jackson, they they
- 22:34Speaker 2: waived him, they DFA him at the end of spring training.
- 22:37Speaker 2: He was on the forty man had you know, was
- 22:39Speaker 2: ur beligible and they head to DFAM because he's out
- 22:42Speaker 2: of options and because he had like a one point
- 22:46Speaker 2: three to five million dollars salary, he was able to
- 22:48Speaker 2: slip through back in February because nobody's gonna take a
- 22:51Speaker 2: kid a catcher. His career year was last year and
- 22:54Speaker 2: he's he's not hit at all in the majors, like
- 22:57Speaker 2: it's never been a good offensive performer, and so he
- 23:01Speaker 2: cleared waivers and the Twins thought he might. You know,
- 23:04Speaker 2: now they're to have three catchers when Jeffers is back
- 23:06Speaker 2: and ready, and it's like, how is Alex Jackson going
- 23:10Speaker 2: to clear? And like, who's your depth if he is not?
- 23:13Speaker 2: If he doesn't clear, because it's you know, teams are
- 23:16Speaker 2: looking for catching help at all times. Alex Jackson's performed
- 23:20Speaker 2: really well helping them out in the time that Jeffers
- 23:25Speaker 2: has been down. Now we are at about six or
- 23:27Speaker 2: seven weeks since he went down went down May nineteenth,
- 23:31Speaker 2: and the Twins have not skipped a beat. Vi Vic
- 23:34Speaker 2: Carrottini has done a great job. The only thing that
- 23:36Speaker 2: they are maybe not as proficient at is the challenging.
- 23:40Speaker 2: But even Karattini is really good at that. Last night,
- 23:43Speaker 2: got some big strikes and challenges overturned. He's really good
- 23:47Speaker 2: at Jackson's kind of Jackson's confidence has grown, but it
- 23:50Speaker 2: wasn't at He's like Jeffers was locked in from the
- 23:53Speaker 2: start of the season. But that's going to be interesting
- 23:55Speaker 2: to see how that plays out, because you know, the
- 23:58Speaker 2: Twins could very easily lose some of their depth just
- 24:01Speaker 2: because Jeffers gets back and is healthy.
- 24:05Speaker 1: The Twins have won seven of their last ten, and
- 24:07Speaker 1: I will just note that the first win in that
- 24:09Speaker 1: stretch was that ridiculous nine to eight victory over the
- 24:13Speaker 1: Rockies where we joked start the Championship DVD with that game,
- 24:18Speaker 1: a sloppy, sloppy win against the worst team in baseball.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But it came on the heels of that sweep to
- 24:25Speaker 1: the Dodgers and look at them, sense like something that
- 24:31Speaker 1: maybe it energized them in just the right way. Intangibles,
- 24:35Speaker 1: that's what we call that. We'll take a quick break
- 24:37Speaker 1: when we come back, we'll talk about Byron Buxton headed
- 24:40Speaker 1: to the IL, and we'll tee up the rest of
- 24:42Speaker 1: the Cleveland series right after this.

- 25:48Speaker 1: As always, it's not all good news for the twins.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Byron Bucks then, as we sort of foreshadowed earlier this week,
- 25:56Speaker 1: headed to the il dan the tendail with his ongoing
- 26:00Speaker 1: hip injury.
- 26:02Speaker 2: It makes sense. It's not easy, and I know Byron
- 26:05Speaker 2: did not want to be in that conversation. I know
- 26:08Speaker 2: he wants to play in the All Star Game. He
- 26:10Speaker 2: got voted in as a starter, and yet I think,
- 26:14Speaker 2: given everything I've heard him say this year, it's just
- 26:18Speaker 2: that he's mad. It's made sense that he would be
- 26:22Speaker 2: willing to take this spot and rest his hip. He's
- 26:25Speaker 2: gone through it for two months. He indicated on Saturday
- 26:29Speaker 2: that he wasn't doing the Derby because of his hip
- 26:31Speaker 2: and having to manage it. And yes, it stinks for
- 26:34Speaker 2: him to sit out this six game homestand to end
- 26:38Speaker 2: the first half, but he trusts his teammates and I
- 26:42Speaker 2: think he and the team saw this as a chance
- 26:45Speaker 2: to have twelve days off and really rest the hip
- 26:48Speaker 2: because he had been like the Jeremy Zols said it
- 26:51Speaker 2: yesterday in the dugout. The issue isn't as bad as
- 26:56Speaker 2: it was before, but it is back, and this is
- 27:00Speaker 2: something that we you know, I think it was May fourteenth,
- 27:03Speaker 2: he missed five games, and then he came back and
- 27:05Speaker 2: he DHD ten of the first eleven games back and
- 27:09Speaker 2: found a place where he was feeling comfortable enough in
- 27:12Speaker 2: late May early June to get into center field and
- 27:15Speaker 2: then started getting out there consistently until we heard about
- 27:19Speaker 2: it again, you know whatever. It was ten days ago,
- 27:23Speaker 2: and he missed four games there, missed the entire Houston series,
- 27:26Speaker 2: missed the first game of the Yankees, came back look
- 27:28Speaker 2: good in New York. Like first a bat doubles off
- 27:30Speaker 2: the wall on that Saturday victory and you know, gets
- 27:33Speaker 2: on base twice and has some impact in the game,
- 27:36Speaker 2: and then singles again on Sunday. And but you know,
- 27:39Speaker 2: running running out the stolen base attempt. He he felt it.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And I think you know, Byron said this hip insure
- 27:46Speaker 2: issue for five years off and on. It's something that
- 27:50Speaker 2: has been there. He's learned how to manage it. And
- 27:52Speaker 2: I think you know, they're calling it a hipspraying now.
- 27:54Speaker 2: It was a hip impingement previous to this, but he
- 27:59Speaker 2: at least has twelve day window right now where he
- 28:01Speaker 2: only misses six games. And I think that part is
- 28:03Speaker 2: the important part for him, is that it limits how
- 28:06Speaker 2: much time he's out. Will he be back in twelve days?
- 28:11Speaker 2: You know, we'll see hips are tricky. We've seen it
- 28:14Speaker 2: with him two years ago. It cost some twenty eight
- 28:16Speaker 2: games in August September. So it's it's something that he
- 28:20Speaker 2: is aware can have a long lasting impact. And I
- 28:23Speaker 2: think he recognizes because the way he came back from
- 28:26Speaker 2: that two years ago, he was very happy. He came
- 28:29Speaker 2: back and hit three hundred and like at eight fifty
- 28:32Speaker 2: ops to and that twenty twenty four season and was like, oh,
- 28:35Speaker 2: I can do this. And I think he has learned
- 28:39Speaker 2: his limits and knows his body so well that even
- 28:44Speaker 2: though it was probably a big grugging conversation to have
- 28:47Speaker 2: with Derek Shelton and the athletic training staff in Jeremy Zohl,
- 28:51Speaker 2: I think, you know, he wouldn't have agreed to it
- 28:53Speaker 2: if he hadn't, but they knew he was gonna be
- 28:54Speaker 2: out for a few days this week minimum. And even
- 28:57Speaker 2: then you come back and you're like, at eighty percent,
- 29:00Speaker 2: is that worth it when you might retrigger it in
- 29:03Speaker 2: four days or two days or one at bat, who knows.
- 29:06Speaker 2: So I think that the as much as this is
- 29:10Speaker 2: probably an emotional decision, I think calmer heads prevailed here
- 29:13Speaker 2: and led to a very sound decision. And the Twins
- 29:17Speaker 2: offense isn't a spot where he feels like they can
- 29:20Speaker 2: do it without him, So why not take that chance
- 29:22Speaker 2: right now?
- 29:24Speaker 1: Yeah? Do you as a player on the team, Tyler,
- 29:26Speaker 1: do you do you understand this approach? Obviously with his history, Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: the last thing you need is him out for the
- 29:31Speaker 1: rest of the season or some extended period of time.
- 29:34Speaker 1: It seems to make sense. But how does it play
- 29:36Speaker 1: in the clubhouse?
- 29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it's one like especially guys that have been around
- 29:41Speaker 4: or Twins guys whatever, like they've seen him working to
- 29:43Speaker 4: stay healthy for so long, and everybody knows Byron, they
- 29:48Speaker 4: know at this point his history. So it's just like
- 29:51Speaker 4: they know when he's on the field he is a
- 29:54Speaker 4: top ten player in baseball period, and so you know,
- 29:57Speaker 4: and he knows that, you know, the whole world, and
- 29:59Speaker 4: it's so now it's kind of like we mentioned the
- 30:01Speaker 4: other day, it's like you can maybe miss a little
- 30:04Speaker 4: bit now, have a built in cushion with the break,
- 30:06Speaker 4: like actually get healthy versus trying to make you know,
- 30:09Speaker 4: trying to band aid it, so to speak. And and
- 30:13Speaker 4: it's one now coming out of the break, it's like,
- 30:16Speaker 4: all right, you know, sprinkling the dhs a little more.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Maybe you know, they can throttle back certain things while
- 30:20Speaker 4: keep them in the lineup. It's it's something you never want,
- 30:24Speaker 4: Like it's definitely when everybody's you're down, when your best
- 30:27Speaker 4: guy's down, like you can feel it. But at the
- 30:29Speaker 4: same time, like he's mentioned and and Dan hit on it,
- 30:33Speaker 4: it's the team is thriving right now and rolling and
- 30:37Speaker 4: so it's an opportunity for him for to not take
- 30:40Speaker 4: a huge burden on and just go get right for
- 30:43Speaker 4: a minute, you know. And it's something that they have
- 30:46Speaker 4: a great plan in house, Like I said before, it's
- 30:49Speaker 4: they know what they're dealing with. It's it's getting it
- 30:52Speaker 4: to calm down enough to feel playable.
- 30:54Speaker 3: And you know, at the end of the day, athletes
- 30:57Speaker 3: are athletes. He's gonna make.
- 30:58Speaker 4: He'll probably tell him if it feels bad or doesn't,
- 31:01Speaker 4: but the day he feels right, he's going to be
- 31:03Speaker 4: on that field no matter what.
- 31:04Speaker 3: And you know, that's all we can ask for.
- 31:06Speaker 4: It's you want guys to push through things in September,
- 31:09Speaker 4: not in June and July. You know, would he have
- 31:13Speaker 4: loved to play in that game, Yes, but they're not
- 31:16Speaker 4: taking away the fact that he was an All Star.
- 31:18Speaker 4: It still is what it is. You know, It's just
- 31:21Speaker 4: he needs he needs a week, and that's okay. You know,
- 31:24Speaker 4: it's the guy's played a lot of baseball already in
- 31:27Speaker 4: his life and he's got a lot more to play.
- 31:29Speaker 4: So it's just, you know, take a couple of weeks,
- 31:31Speaker 4: get some water, you know, some good vitamins, whatever they got,
- 31:34Speaker 4: magic in the back, and you know, come out of
- 31:37Speaker 4: the other side of this thing ready to rock.
- 31:40Speaker 2: All that, all that, and it still stinks, right like
- 31:43Speaker 2: all this made it still.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Sucks like it's not mad, but we gotta just keep rolling.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Uh. The other bit of bad news from the yesterday,
- 31:57Speaker 1: the daily Dinger streak comes to you, and what can
- 32:01Speaker 1: you do when the team doesn't hit any homers at all?
- 32:04Speaker 1: But but yeah, it was it was not a good
- 32:06Speaker 1: night for the daily Dinger streak. That's all right, we'll
- 32:09Speaker 1: bounce back next week. We'll try again. Moving on to
- 32:13Speaker 1: today and tomorrow the final two games against Cleveland. Tonight
- 32:17Speaker 1: a six forty pm start Connor Prelip's last start before
- 32:21Speaker 1: the All Star Break against Slade Secconi and on Thursday afternoon,
- 32:25Speaker 1: twelve forty start Mike Parades against Gavin Williams and Dan
- 32:30Speaker 1: The Twins would sure like one more in this series
- 32:33Speaker 1: to keep that win streak going.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I like their chances today because Connor Prelip is a
- 32:39Speaker 2: lefty and I looked at that lineup last night, and yes,
- 32:42Speaker 2: Cleveland had some righties on the bench. They have they
- 32:44Speaker 2: do have righty's man. They had about four or five lefties.
- 32:48Speaker 2: It felt like at the top of the lineup last
- 32:50Speaker 2: night chased the louder like the middle of their their
- 32:54Speaker 2: group was all lefties, and it'll be I think that's
- 32:58Speaker 2: a good spot once of your best guys are lefties.
- 33:01Speaker 2: To be facing the lefty with Connor Prelips stuff, and
- 33:05Speaker 2: you know, the Twins just have to hope that he
- 33:07Speaker 2: can handle the layoff like he did last time. He
- 33:10Speaker 2: came back after I think it was nine days and
- 33:13Speaker 2: was just so dominant and has just such great stuff,
- 33:16Speaker 2: and I imagine like his mindset was is perfect for
- 33:20Speaker 2: this because he's not thinking overthinking things. He is just
- 33:23Speaker 2: a just go point me to the amount and I
- 33:26Speaker 2: will do it. Like he is not this This is
- 33:29Speaker 2: not a guy that is you know, consumed by those things.
- 33:33Speaker 2: He's just like, give me a plan and took extra
- 33:36Speaker 2: bullpens and and just works through it. And I know
- 33:41Speaker 2: he knows. He's not freaking out about the fact that
- 33:43Speaker 2: they're trying to monitor his workload because he knows, having
- 33:47Speaker 2: been through to Tommy Johns, that this is you know,
- 33:50Speaker 2: very new territory for him to be coming up on
- 33:54Speaker 2: eighty innings already, which is shocking. Last year he went
- 33:56Speaker 2: eighty two and a third innings. I believe that was
- 34:00Speaker 2: a career high professional high and the most he had
- 34:02Speaker 2: thrown ever, like going back to high school. So he
- 34:07Speaker 2: knows that he needs to be monitored, and I think
- 34:10Speaker 2: that that bodes well that he handled it as well
- 34:14Speaker 2: as he did last time and just worked. And you know,
- 34:16Speaker 2: if you can get a good outing out of him,
- 34:18Speaker 2: then you're you're in a great spot going into that
- 34:20Speaker 2: final because Gab Williams is really tough against the twins,
- 34:24Speaker 2: you know, he's Yeah, the last couple of years especially,
- 34:29Speaker 2: it felt like every times running the gab Williams. It's
- 34:31Speaker 2: not been good, so important one tonight for sure, Twins.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Then get Zebbie, Matthews, Joe Ryan, and Taj Bradley for
- 34:40Speaker 1: the weekend set against Los Angeles. A nice way to
- 34:42Speaker 1: finish off the unofficial.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Actually, I don't think we'll see tag. I think we
- 34:49Speaker 2: will two reasons. I think we'll see Bailey.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Oh yeah, right, you mentioned that.
- 34:55Speaker 2: And Zebby they do think will yeah, so you know
- 35:00Speaker 2: that could make that could make TOAs Bradley available to
- 35:04Speaker 2: be an injury replacement in all story game. Sonny Gray
- 35:06Speaker 2: needs to get in first. Sonny Gray is ten and
- 35:08Speaker 2: one and what a snub. Players don't the players vote.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I thought the players we get I thought.
- 35:16Speaker 3: We get a vote.
- 35:17Speaker 4: But it's like the one guy that didn't get picked
- 35:19Speaker 4: might get in kind of thing.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Like it's fans. You all saw it, like six million votes.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but the fans don't get The fans don't get
- 35:30Speaker 2: to pick the pitchers. And the fact that Sonny Gray
- 35:33Speaker 2: didn't get picked, you know, maybe Joe Ryan got it
- 35:36Speaker 2: over him. And that's great for like the Twins and
- 35:40Speaker 2: Joe Ryan. By the way, a good day for Joe
- 35:43Speaker 2: Ryan yesterday he didn't even pitch and he lowered his ear.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Yes, bring that up.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Explain that that was that was fascinating.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, So the Royce Lewis play that was early
- 35:55Speaker 2: in the six running Royce, remember the six running in
- 35:58Speaker 2: Houston for Joe Ryan, where by the way, Joe Ryan
- 36:01Speaker 2: still gave up six runs, and he still did give
- 36:03Speaker 2: up a grand slam to Jordan Alvarez, and he still
- 36:06Speaker 2: did walk after walking into right walked in the guy
- 36:12Speaker 2: with the bases loaded like that inning did still go
- 36:15Speaker 2: to you know, stuff like it was not a great
- 36:20Speaker 2: inning for him. But there was the critical Royce Lewis error.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Taylor h Tremmell. Yeah, hit a ground ball went right
- 36:30Speaker 2: through the wickets for Royce Lewis. It was like eighty
- 36:32Speaker 2: eight off the bat. The Twins appealed on Ryan's.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Past scored hit.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Originally, Yeah, it was scored a hit, and typically the
- 36:42Speaker 2: scorer can overrule themselves that night before they file the
- 36:46Speaker 2: report to the league. The score did not. The scorer
- 36:50Speaker 2: gave a generous hit to mister Tremmel and the Twins appealed.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I knew Joe Ryan was gonna appeal. I talked to
- 36:57Speaker 2: him after the game and he that play was maybe
- 37:00Speaker 2: on his mind, and I think just the smidge because
- 37:05Speaker 2: it would have led to that would have been the
- 37:07Speaker 2: second out of the inning, and he got the third
- 37:09Speaker 2: out what would have been the third out two batters later,
- 37:12Speaker 2: so he wouldn't have gotten to the bases loaded spot,
- 37:15Speaker 2: all that stuff. So because of that they put in
- 37:18Speaker 2: the appeal. The league makes that decision the following Monday,
- 37:21Speaker 2: So you know we're talking that start happened last Tuesday,
- 37:25Speaker 2: So on Monday, the league made the decision. They didn't
- 37:28Speaker 2: form the Twins till yesterday. But because they changed the
- 37:33Speaker 2: ruling on the play to an error on Royce Lewis,
- 37:37Speaker 2: that means that that would have been the second out
- 37:39Speaker 2: of the inning, and like like I said, Joe Ryan
- 37:41Speaker 2: would have then gotten out the inning with no runs.
- 37:43Speaker 2: So that makes all six the runs he allowed that
- 37:46Speaker 2: were previously earned unearned. His era went from three three
- 37:52Speaker 2: six to two eight.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Five, inane half point drop from one year.
- 37:57Speaker 2: And in the game, I think the fantasy impact. Think
- 38:00Speaker 2: about the fantasy how many fantasy leagues across the like
- 38:05Speaker 2: that six and runs off the team if.
- 38:10Speaker 4: You in the moment we were, I was seeing his
- 38:14Speaker 4: era was he's at like a three point one whatever,
- 38:17Speaker 4: and I was like, he can get under a three today,
- 38:18Speaker 4: you know, into two nine or whatever. And that inning
- 38:22Speaker 4: it ballooned to the three five and it's like, there's
- 38:25Speaker 4: no way that's gonna stick whatever. And and even the
- 38:28Speaker 4: good thing is like that group funny enough, it's like
- 38:31Speaker 4: four hitters in one pitcher. So it's really hard to
- 38:33Speaker 4: get stuff overturned, like it like plays where you might
- 38:37Speaker 4: really think it should be. It's not always as easy
- 38:39Speaker 4: as it might seem, so to get one over. Yeah,
- 38:45Speaker 4: So like the council, I can't remember what they call themselves,
- 38:48Speaker 4: you know, I don't know the Lord of the Rings
- 38:50Speaker 4: will help treve out, but uh, you know, it's just
- 38:53Speaker 4: uh yeah, there's a group of I think it's like
- 38:54Speaker 4: five or six guys and it's mostly hitters, but they
- 38:57Speaker 4: do get him right. So it's you know, it is
- 38:59Speaker 4: a good as a picture to be able to kind
- 39:01Speaker 4: of be like, hey, I love my guys, but that maybe.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Wasn't a clean one there. And you know, most of
- 39:07Speaker 3: the time they'll get it.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Because the other side of that, if you an error
- 39:12Speaker 1: goes down as an over one for a hitter, right, Yeah,
- 39:16Speaker 1: So it's like it's it's really bad for one of
- 39:19Speaker 1: the other and there's no middle ground. Yeah, there's not
- 39:22Speaker 1: helping anybody. Yeah. Yeah, it feels like there should be
- 39:25Speaker 1: a that should be like an overo situation, but whatever,
- 39:28Speaker 1: and wouldn't like it.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Typically, I actually think that target field they are. They
- 39:35Speaker 2: do a pretty good job in the scorers booth of
- 39:37Speaker 2: not being homers. But there are some places you go
- 39:40Speaker 2: where there's just absolute homersm going on in scoring booth.
- 39:43Speaker 2: You know it you're like a foul Like there was
- 39:47Speaker 2: a famous outfielder having an amazing gold Glove run in
- 39:52Speaker 2: the mid thirteen fourteen fifteen era, playing left field out
- 39:58Speaker 2: in a great you know, they moved one to the
- 40:00Speaker 2: World Series a couple of times, and he had this
- 40:03Speaker 2: errorless streak going and White Sox were there playing a
- 40:07Speaker 2: divisional game and he went for a long run and
- 40:10Speaker 2: dropped a foul ball and it was a clear drop
- 40:13Speaker 2: and it was a play he should have been made,
- 40:15Speaker 2: and they ruled no play rather than charge an error
- 40:19Speaker 2: to him, and it's like, oh boy, And that same
- 40:22Speaker 2: place has had many calls where you're like, what, like,
- 40:26Speaker 2: that's a hit. That ball hit him in the glove, Like,
- 40:29Speaker 2: what there some of the homersm that goes on with scores,
- 40:33Speaker 2: and I get it they got some pressure because they're
- 40:35Speaker 2: going to hear about it. There's a phone call made
- 40:37Speaker 2: during games, like imagine picking up the phone and Tyler
- 40:41Speaker 2: Duffies on the other end of it yelling at you, like,
- 40:44Speaker 2: why was that not an error? That's four earned runs
- 40:47Speaker 2: against me right there. Except it's not Tyler Duffies. It's
- 40:50Speaker 2: usually a pr guy calling to yell. But yeah, there
- 40:53Speaker 2: is pressure involved. There is pressure involved this. It's not
- 40:58Speaker 2: like there isn't pressure involved, but man, some homer scorers
- 41:01Speaker 2: are out there and this one was like, Wow, I
- 41:04Speaker 2: was I was stunned. I called it in there right
- 41:06Speaker 2: when it happened on social media. So I don't think
- 41:10Speaker 2: Joe Ryan was like holding his breath on this, but
- 41:13Speaker 2: he was pleasantly surprised when his ERA dropped by a
- 41:16Speaker 2: half point.
- 41:18Speaker 1: That's crazy and esthetically too, to go from over three
- 41:21Speaker 1: to under three is just that's yeah, that's gotta feel good.
- 41:25Speaker 3: That's nice. It looks good at the All Star Game,
- 41:28Speaker 3: it does.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Yeah, right, let's if you can keep it that way.
- 41:33Speaker 1: No more, no more controversial scoring decisions on on Saturday. Please, well,
- 41:39Speaker 1: unless it helps Joe Ryan, then fine, go ahead and
- 41:41Speaker 1: do it. We'll be back with you on Friday. If
