- 0:41Speaker 5: Dude, somebody think I have like forty six.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Maybe the other team will run the ball and keep

- 0:49Speaker 1: By the way, Paul's roster projection is based on how short
- 0:52Speaker 1: can we make the game.
- 0:53Speaker 6: If you just read enough different people's summations of Wednesday's practice,
- 0:56Speaker 6: you could have found that the Patriots won the Super Bowl?
- 0:58Speaker 6: Or are they gonna get relegated to the D League?
- 1:01Speaker 4: Was a little more than you.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Would have been right to get those leaf peepers coming
- 1:04Speaker 1: up to New England pretty soon.
- 1:06Speaker 5: You didn't miss it when you lived in California. I missed.
- 1:07Speaker 5: I missed this, the fall, the changing season. I think
- 1:10Speaker 5: it was more of the weather though.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It wasn't anything, you know, the falling of the palms
- 1:13Speaker 1: or anything. And what's wrong with cheat? You didn't like?
- 1:16Speaker 7: You like?
- 1:16Speaker 1: What's the real sticks?
- 1:17Speaker 5: Really?
- 1:18Speaker 4: That's a hot take. That is a hot take.
- 1:20Speaker 5: It's just a giant hunk of cheese.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, what's wrong with cheese?
- 1:24Speaker 6: That is he that would cause net problem wearing those
- 1:28Speaker 6: on a regular basis?
- 1:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and they looked up.
- 1:33Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:41Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:45Speaker 1: at Jillette Stadium and we're getting ready to travel to Nashville.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Uh so we've got Alex Barth joining us. Welcome to
- 1:53Speaker 1: the big show.
- 1:53Speaker 9: Alex look been looking forward to this.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Alex is gonna fill in because Evan, who's also here,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and I will need to leave it a on one
- 2:00Speaker 1: o'clock to get on the bus. Deuce is here tomorrow,
- 2:03Speaker 1: will be here shortly. I think you never know with her,
- 2:06Speaker 1: she just kind of float in, float out.
- 2:10Speaker 5: We think so she's up there.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah coming. But yeah, so good crew today. Welcome again, Alex, Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 1: Matt Stooth. So we're gonna talk Patriots getting ready for
- 2:20Speaker 1: the Titans. It's going to be hot hot. I was
- 2:24Speaker 1: looking at my app, my weather app and one hundred
- 2:27Speaker 1: degrees tomorrow.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Well, we were out on the practice fields, I guess
- 2:32Speaker 5: Wednesday maybe, and Stacey like turned around and like said,
- 2:35Speaker 5: like the heat indcks at that point when we would
- 2:36Speaker 5: have been practicing the Nashville was like one hundred and
- 2:38Speaker 5: fourteen degrees. Yeah, so we're all kind of like kind
- 2:42Speaker 5: of glad we missed out on that, but it sounds
- 2:44Speaker 5: like it's still going to be a hot one for
- 2:46Speaker 5: you guys tomorrow.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know it can down on the field.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'm sure it's you know, hotter than you.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Know, yeah, with the pads on and yeah, you know
- 2:54Speaker 5: there she is.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Yeah, there's Tamara and the Virginia Tech sweatshirt.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Yeah she wore to Yeah she can't talk yet.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Yeah, we can't hear you.
- 3:03Speaker 5: I think it's funny though, because Bar's gonna you know,
- 3:05Speaker 5: cross over a little bit. And yes, you know, Andy
- 3:08Speaker 5: and Paul were kind of together forever and me and
- 3:09Speaker 5: Fitzie were kind of a pair, and you guys are
- 3:11Speaker 5: kind of a pair. And then you know, now Fitzi
- 3:13Speaker 5: and Andy do a lot of things together, and me
- 3:15Speaker 5: and Paul do stuff together. So you know, maybe we're
- 3:18Speaker 5: gonna steal Barth from you. You know you gotta watch it. Okay,
- 3:20Speaker 5: You're gonna lose your dance partner here.
- 3:21Speaker 4: For no, no.
- 3:24Speaker 1: No, we need we need a partner for Tamara.
- 3:28Speaker 9: Alex.
- 3:29Speaker 4: It's Alex female Alex Alex.
- 3:32Speaker 1: She never comes down anymore. She doesn't like us anymore.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I don't think we gotta find her get down here.
- 3:37Speaker 3: So I wore this Virginia Tech Krewnick almost said hoodie
- 3:41Speaker 3: because I knew Barth was gonna be here, and he's
- 3:43Speaker 3: a big college football guy.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Oh we just did. We just did ten minutes on
- 3:47Speaker 4: all the guys at Bar's gonna draft next year. Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 3: So that's why I wore this today because it's week zero.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I knew Barth would appreciate it, and I'm so excited.
- 3:56Speaker 5: He'll give you a full rundown of Hoky. So'll tell
- 3:58Speaker 5: you everybody players to watch on the whole.
- 4:00Speaker 9: I had a guy, so I put up this morning.
- 4:02Speaker 9: I did every year before weeks hereo, I do like it.
- 4:04Speaker 9: Here's like eight or ten guys that I'm watching as
- 4:06Speaker 9: potential Patriots. I have a Virginia Tech guy in the list.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I'm guessing defense.
- 4:11Speaker 9: It has to be. It is defense.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, our defense is all that I'm writing on right
- 4:15Speaker 3: now because the offense is gonna be terrible.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So Alex, you know, for our fans that may not
- 4:21Speaker 1: be familiar with you, I can't believe that. But you
- 4:23Speaker 1: never know. You're at ninety eight point five. Yes, and
- 4:26Speaker 1: you do a lot of the writing for ninety eight
- 4:28Speaker 1: point five, But I hear you a lot on the
- 4:30Speaker 1: morning show. You do appearances and throughout the day different
- 4:34Speaker 1: you know, whenever they want to really talk football.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I guess you could say that gets you on there.
- 4:39Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 1: There's there's another person at ninety point five. I think
- 4:43Speaker 1: her name is Kendram Middleton. Yes, she does mornings now
- 4:46Speaker 1: with Lipshats. Yeah, and she knows a lot of college football,
- 4:50Speaker 1: it seems to me anyway.
- 4:52Speaker 9: Yeah, she's a big college football person. I mean she's
- 4:54Speaker 9: from Jacksonville. She's from like the heart of it, so
- 4:56Speaker 9: she's Yeah, she's a pretty big college football person. Here's
- 4:59Speaker 9: this nice to in lift shats and and Joe Murray
- 5:01Speaker 9: are too because they do the betting stuff. So right,
- 5:03Speaker 9: we got we got some college football people down there, Apple.
- 5:05Speaker 1: In ninety eight point five.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and then when I stopped talking about you know,
- 5:08Speaker 4: the drama and the palace coups, they probably bring Alex
- 5:12Speaker 4: on and he tells them what's actually happening with the
- 5:14Speaker 4: football team.
- 5:14Speaker 9: Was that I was on with them. It was one
- 5:16Speaker 9: of the days during camp and uh Felger comes and
- 5:20Speaker 9: gets me from me working with us, you want to
- 5:21Speaker 9: do a couple minutes We're talking about Taekwon Thornton. I'm like, sure,
- 5:24Speaker 9: so what do you think of Taekwon Thorton? And so
- 5:25Speaker 9: harmles it's not great? He goes, wow from you, he
- 5:28Speaker 9: was like, I couldn't believe it. So it's truth.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I used to star with him on a regular basis.
- 5:33Speaker 1: All right, So we didn't have a show yesterday Wednesday,
- 5:38Speaker 1: but they had practice, So why don't we update people
- 5:40Speaker 1: on who's in, who's out? What do they look like?
- 5:43Speaker 5: Yeah, and when you back out there, limited went up
- 5:46Speaker 5: to the upper fields, but good positive, you know, strides
- 5:48Speaker 5: for him just to be in pads. Pierre Strong out
- 5:51Speaker 5: of the red jersey. That's a good sign maybe he
- 5:53Speaker 5: can he can play. I mean, I think that's a
- 5:54Speaker 5: good topic for discussion about those running back spots with
- 5:58Speaker 5: you know, Elliott Stevenson, and it's like Montgomery's back. So
- 6:01Speaker 5: those three seem like the guys, but probably one more,
- 6:03Speaker 5: is it? Pierre Strong, Kevin.
- 6:05Speaker 10: Harris, JJ Taylor.
- 6:06Speaker 5: J Taylor.
- 6:10Speaker 4: So good back.
- 6:14Speaker 9: I was really impressed that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He caught that check down and did some things after
- 6:18Speaker 1: the catch, which was nice to see. But I would
- 6:21Speaker 1: expect that from him.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Around and passed he plays past okay.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And I also just like how Bill mentioned like he's
- 6:28Speaker 3: like light years much better a player than he was
- 6:30Speaker 3: when he first got here, just in all aspects of
- 6:32Speaker 3: the game, not just running the ball. He was like,
- 6:35Speaker 3: his past catching ability is so much better than it
- 6:36Speaker 3: was last year.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So I'm like wondering, so who goes if he makes
- 6:40Speaker 1: the fifty three.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Time Montgomery Montgomery, I.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Was just gonna say, that's probably the guy, right.
- 6:46Speaker 9: I think it comes down to how much do they
- 6:48Speaker 9: trust Time Montgomery to be available because Montgomery is essentially
- 6:51Speaker 9: a better version of JJ Taylor. But you know, if
- 6:53Speaker 9: he's going to be here for two weeks and get
- 6:55Speaker 9: hurt and then you maybe lose JJ Taylor, you're out
- 6:57Speaker 9: of lock.
- 6:58Speaker 5: I think that's fair. But I just wonder, like JJ
- 7:00Speaker 5: Taylor improved so much on last year when he couldn't
- 7:02Speaker 5: even get on the field when they were just running
- 7:04Speaker 5: Remondre into the ground, Like, you know, has he done
- 7:06Speaker 5: that much? Like I always think he looks great in
- 7:08Speaker 5: the preseason. I thought he'd looked great when they initially
- 7:10Speaker 5: signed him, like this is gonna be a fun guy
- 7:12Speaker 5: in the preseason. I don't know, though, I'm still a
- 7:14Speaker 5: little skeptical that he's gonna like be the fourth running
- 7:17Speaker 5: back on this team and play a role after two
- 7:19Speaker 5: years where he can't even really get on the field
- 7:21Speaker 5: even when they were like.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Desperate for a guy.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Also, I keep saying, when you have an offensive line
- 7:25Speaker 3: who literally can't do anything, he can slide through the
- 7:27Speaker 3: smallest little places.
- 7:30Speaker 9: I would say that in terms of not being able
- 7:33Speaker 9: to get on the field. I mean, Kendrick Bourne was
- 7:35Speaker 9: got probably good to use last year whouldn't get on
- 7:37Speaker 9: the field, and he's had a good camp.
- 7:38Speaker 5: So that's I mean, that's fair with I mean, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 5: with the passing offense, but I mean, I I wouldn't
- 7:42Speaker 5: ull Pierre Strong out yet. I mean, I still think
- 7:44Speaker 5: he's got maybe more of the full package that you're
- 7:46Speaker 5: looking for without the size concerns with Taylor. But I
- 7:49Speaker 5: don't know, we'll see. It's good, it's a good debate,
- 7:51Speaker 5: and I think these guys will have a chance. Hopefully
- 7:53Speaker 5: Strong can go so we can at least, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 5: have a chance to tea.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean it seems to me like right now, the
- 7:58Speaker 1: only person that you can depend done to, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: for yards after the catch in small spaces from the
- 8:04Speaker 1: back position is Remandre. You know, we've seen him be shifty.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Everybody else is kind of straight ahead, you know, kind
- 8:11Speaker 1: of back that I haven't seen enough about Time Montgomery
- 8:14Speaker 1: lately to know. No, you know, I just don't know.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I mean, I think Alex's point is totally out though,
- 8:18Speaker 5: Like I mean, he's just always been hurt, there's no
- 8:21Speaker 5: I mean, it's almost comical how we got hurt like
- 8:22Speaker 5: day three after the first couple days being so involved,
- 8:25Speaker 5: and you know, here we go again. So I totally
- 8:28Speaker 5: get that point. But I will say, you know, not
- 8:30Speaker 5: having really watched a lot of Ezekiel Elliott, I think
- 8:32Speaker 5: he's got a little shimmy that I didn't really realize
- 8:34Speaker 5: for a big guy going through the hole. He's got
- 8:36Speaker 5: a little you know, he's got some he's got some
- 8:38Speaker 5: little bit of lateral movement that I was just surprised
- 8:40Speaker 5: because I thought he'd looked more. Not that I'm sure
- 8:43Speaker 5: he's a better player than Kevin Harris is at this
- 8:44Speaker 5: point even still, but.
- 8:46Speaker 1: More of that big straight ahead you just wonder, like
- 8:48Speaker 1: change of scenery, new life, at least, come out of
- 8:51Speaker 1: the gate. Maybe Ezekiel Elliott. It surprises us a little bit.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I like his energy, and you know, he had his
- 8:57Speaker 3: first media appearance yesterday and he said he feels ready
- 8:59Speaker 3: to go. Oh like obviously, like you know, he wasn't
- 9:02Speaker 3: around a team this this offseason.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But I mean he was only twenty eight. Now, I know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: twenty eight as a running back is like thirty two
- 9:10Speaker 1: in other positions. But you know, let's see maybe maybe
- 9:15Speaker 1: you know, he had a good off season for himself.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You know, yeah, he.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Plays tomorrow, I think, so I think he's gonna play
- 9:21Speaker 4: a little bit. I think for you know, I've always
- 9:22Speaker 4: thought of of Zeke as having good vision and being
- 9:26Speaker 4: able to set up blocks and like I always thought
- 9:28Speaker 4: that was the strength of his game, but seeing him
- 9:29Speaker 4: up close, he's super efficient through the line of scrimmage,
- 9:32Speaker 4: like he knows, you know, he sees it quickly and
- 9:35Speaker 4: he makes really good decisions with the ball in his hand.
- 9:37Speaker 4: And I think that's you know, so Mike was speaking
- 9:40Speaker 4: to is that little It's not like he's not a jitterbug,
- 9:42Speaker 4: like he's not going to juke people out of his shoes,
- 9:44Speaker 4: but he takes really good angles through the line of
- 9:47Speaker 4: scrimmage and sets it up with his footwork. And yeah,
- 9:49Speaker 4: he's he's a he's a pro. I mean, he knows,
- 9:52Speaker 4: he knows how to set things up, he knows where
- 9:54Speaker 4: his blocking is gonna be, he knows, you know, where
- 9:57Speaker 4: the holes are, and he's been pretty good I from
- 10:00Speaker 4: what we've seen.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it reminds me a little bit of
- 10:02Speaker 1: the way Curtis Martin or Emmitt Smith used to run,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know, like they would never really take on square hits.
- 10:09Speaker 1: They use those angles like you were talking about, really
- 10:11Speaker 1: well good vision. So you know, we'll see, we'll see.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But I think it's a good pick up. I think,
- 10:19Speaker 1: you know, just having him in the backfield to pick
- 10:21Speaker 1: up you know, uh pressure, I think that's really valuable.
- 10:26Speaker 5: And I said to Evan, I'm like he might be
- 10:27Speaker 5: their like second or third best blocking offensive line right now.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Wow, he passed that. I did want to see he
- 10:33Speaker 4: did play center last year.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I didn't want to say tackle. I did want to
- 10:38Speaker 1: segue to the offensive line because that's to me, that's
- 10:42Speaker 1: the big question right now going into the season is
- 10:45Speaker 1: how is this all O line going to be? Well?
- 10:47Speaker 5: I mean think on when you you know that's a
- 10:49Speaker 5: good sign. And Cole Strange seems like he wants to
- 10:51Speaker 5: just like sneak out onto the field like every time
- 10:52Speaker 5: I see all of a sudden, he's like walking out,
- 10:55Speaker 5: like coach, I'm gonna go in a real quick note
- 10:56Speaker 5: cold not yet, you're not ready. But I mean he's
- 10:58Speaker 5: been popping out at practice for a while now, not
- 11:00Speaker 5: in pads, but he comes out in a jersey in shorts.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Who's going to be our starting right tackle.
- 11:06Speaker 5: City right now?
- 11:08Speaker 9: It should be Mike O and win Yeah, but I
- 11:11Speaker 9: mean basically and then it kicks. So me and evin't
- 11:16Speaker 9: talked about this on catch twenty two the one reason
- 11:18Speaker 9: and you.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Could talk about the nice teas.
- 11:22Speaker 9: Oh we did talk we did talk about, but not
- 11:25Speaker 9: in that context when did we, Oh, it was kind
- 11:27Speaker 9: of similar.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 9: The one reason I'm holding out hope and maybe my
- 11:30Speaker 9: hopes are up and they shouldn't be. But for on
- 11:32Speaker 9: win who playing right tackle is we know that that
- 11:35Speaker 9: big word for them on the offensive line is continuity.
- 11:37Speaker 9: They want guys in their spot, repping in their spot,
- 11:40Speaker 9: Guys who are going to play next to each other
- 11:42Speaker 9: used to playing next to each other. If the plan
- 11:45Speaker 9: was to play Mike on and Win with right guard,
- 11:48Speaker 9: you'd think Riley Reef would maybe still be in the
- 11:50Speaker 9: tackle conversation at least rotating with Cities. So we haven't
- 11:53Speaker 9: seen that. It's been Riley Reef for right guard. So
- 11:56Speaker 9: is that because that's where he's gonna play and maybe
- 11:59Speaker 9: City So is actually the placeholder right now? And that
- 12:02Speaker 9: way when Mike when win Who comes back, instead of
- 12:04Speaker 9: being all right, we're gonna put on Win, We're gonna
- 12:06Speaker 9: move you know, uh, Riley Reef over so out. It's
- 12:10Speaker 9: just one in, one out on Winno for so. So
- 12:12Speaker 9: that's one way to look at it. I don't think
- 12:14Speaker 9: it's definitive, but I am. I do kind of see that.
- 12:16Speaker 9: And in wonder, especially after the way City Still played
- 12:19Speaker 9: last week, is is this them kind of saying that,
- 12:22Speaker 9: all right, Riley Reef is our right guard.
- 12:24Speaker 1: So is McDermott hurt?
- 12:25Speaker 9: Is he out of the give a practice saying.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Day packer's joints? He got hurt then? And you know
- 12:30Speaker 5: we didn't see him second day.
- 12:31Speaker 4: We've seen the stock take a on Connor McDermott first. First,
- 12:36Speaker 4: like a couple of days in pads. I was like,
- 12:37Speaker 4: Connor McDermott, all right, here we go, and then you
- 12:39Speaker 4: know it's started to go downhill already, and then he
- 12:42Speaker 4: hasn't been out there with it.
- 12:43Speaker 9: Wait, he was good up until the Texans game, I thought,
- 12:46Speaker 9: and then they played him out of position and then
- 12:48Speaker 9: we just haven't seen him since. So that was kind
- 12:49Speaker 9: of weird. Left tackle, right, yeah, which he's never played.
- 12:52Speaker 4: It's there's not so many injuries on the offensive line
- 12:56Speaker 4: that it's just kind of odd that they're almost just
- 12:59Speaker 4: need to get through the preseason in some ways. So
- 13:01Speaker 4: like with Alex's point about, you know, yeah, it makes
- 13:04Speaker 4: total sense that Reef would be a guard and and
- 13:07Speaker 4: you know, uh, that would mean that on when it
- 13:09Speaker 4: was actually getting ready to play tackle, and they wouldn't
- 13:11Speaker 4: change it up. But I don't even know how much
- 13:13Speaker 4: of that is just we got to play some everybody somewhere,
- 13:16Speaker 4: and then we're not trading so to be a guard,
- 13:19Speaker 4: we're trading him to be a It just it seems
- 13:21Speaker 4: like it's just been so dire. Oh yeah, they're they're
- 13:25Speaker 4: they're they're on you again.
- 13:27Speaker 9: Here we go, all right.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Matt mccarthyen plenty on going to both Springsteen shows without
- 13:31Speaker 5: So you're going to both that's true?
- 13:32Speaker 1: Is that accurate? Oh wow?
- 13:35Speaker 4: Springsteen fan for hour two, I wrote down, I grew
- 13:37Speaker 4: up listening to don't undersell it. You were a huge Springsteen.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I mean I grew up listening to him, but I'm
- 13:42Speaker 1: not a huge fan.
- 13:42Speaker 5: And you were like in New Jersey to for a while.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Speaking to you before Springsteen.
- 13:47Speaker 4: I was sprung from the cages on Highway nine. Fred,
- 13:50Speaker 4: that's just like you.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I lived off Rudine on Ryan Road in uh
- 13:55Speaker 1: men Alapan.
- 13:56Speaker 4: There you go.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Fred also said that there's not many like people that
- 14:00Speaker 3: he would want.
- 14:01Speaker 1: To go see in concert, like he's like these days. Correct, Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: the crowds, There's no one that I'd be willing to
- 14:08Speaker 1: put up with the crowds to see at this point. Yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 1: even like you know some of these bands that come
- 14:14Speaker 1: back and they're too old. Like I wouldn't even go
- 14:17Speaker 1: see the Rolling Stones if you gave me a free ticket.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I've seen them ticket. Yeah, I've seen them before. There's
- 14:23Speaker 1: plenty of times.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I don't believe. I don't believe that you would.
- 14:27Speaker 1: No, it's too much of a pain. I'd go putting
- 14:31Speaker 1: up with humanity.
- 14:34Speaker 3: What's the difference between doing that and going to a
- 14:36Speaker 3: football game and dealing with people?
- 14:37Speaker 4: You're still the press box.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Right, So you're saying it's different. It's different, you know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: sporting event like it. You know, you want to listen
- 14:50Speaker 1: to the music, right, and everyone's doing all this other
- 14:53Speaker 1: stuff at football at least everyone's watching the game. You know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: you're kind of all doing the same thing unless you
- 14:59Speaker 1: get unlucky and you to some drunkard.
- 15:01Speaker 4: But you know, I don't know that never happens at stadium.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Like, you know, I like, like sporting events are still okay,
- 15:09Speaker 1: but concerts they I don't know, it's too much anyway.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Can I bring it back to so for a second, now,
- 15:15Speaker 5: what do you think of the ramifications though of him?
- 15:17Speaker 5: Contract wise, if you plan this year at right tackle,
- 15:20Speaker 5: does that make it easier? Sorry what I said, so, yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 5: but that's that's what I mean. So the ramifications of that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: I've thought about this too, because on the one hand,
- 15:29Speaker 4: it would not be very Patriots to help a guy
- 15:31Speaker 4: make more money in the in the free agent market,
- 15:34Speaker 4: right because then he's going to price himself out. But
- 15:36Speaker 4: if you're Mike Onwenu, then you're begging them to play
- 15:39Speaker 4: you at right tackle. Like I had good film there
- 15:41Speaker 4: as a rookie. If I have good film again there
- 15:43Speaker 4: this year, then the view the league might view me
- 15:45Speaker 4: as a right tackle. And now all of a sudden,
- 15:47Speaker 4: I'm making ten plus million dollars a year to play
- 15:49Speaker 4: right tackle. I think that there's that is a factor.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I think it's a factor of whether or not they're
- 15:56Speaker 4: going to kick him outside of his market next year. Now,
- 15:59Speaker 4: the one thing you can bank on, the franchise tag
- 16:02Speaker 4: is all encompassing. It's guard center attack like there's just
- 16:04Speaker 4: one offensive lineman franchise tag, so they wouldn't necessarily need
- 16:08Speaker 4: to worry about it from that person.
- 16:09Speaker 9: That's really a tackle tag because of the way it's structured.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah, but you wouldn't have to. I mean, they taged
- 16:15Speaker 4: Joe Tooney as a that's true, so I don't think
- 16:17Speaker 4: that they would necessarily worry about it from the tag perspective,
- 16:19Speaker 4: but I've thought about the the open market perspective, could
- 16:22Speaker 4: definitely chase there.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And we talked about I think it was a left
- 16:26Speaker 1: tackle from the Cardinals who is sitting on the bench now.
- 16:30Speaker 1: It might be excess baggage for them. Any chance you
- 16:34Speaker 1: bring somebody in there and then you kick off Trent
- 16:37Speaker 1: Brown back to right tackle, which is better for him.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And see now everything.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Settled, maybe with Anderson, see what happens with Calvin Anderson,
- 16:43Speaker 5: and Mike Greese wrote that he was getting close. We
- 16:45Speaker 5: haven't seen him out there yet, but I mean, I
- 16:47Speaker 5: do feel like he's a potential left tackle option that
- 16:49Speaker 5: you have in house already that that maybe if he
- 16:51Speaker 5: they're like, he's gonna be back next week, then I
- 16:53Speaker 5: don't I would at least give him a chance because.
- 16:55Speaker 1: If you can do that, now you've got a settled
- 16:58Speaker 1: line with some depth.
- 16:59Speaker 5: Yeah, and I would just say to like to my point,
- 17:02Speaker 5: I think like in the best case scenario, it's it's
- 17:04Speaker 5: to play, so to play the rookie, you know, and
- 17:06Speaker 5: then to have Riley Reef who can play four spots
- 17:09Speaker 5: on the offensive line, to be the sixth linemen and
- 17:12Speaker 5: to be able to fill in at those spots. So
- 17:14Speaker 5: I mean, I totally get what these guys are saying.
- 17:15Speaker 5: And if you're probably putting your best five out there,
- 17:18Speaker 5: it probably isn't when you at r right tackle. But
- 17:20Speaker 5: I just think for the long term stability of the team,
- 17:22Speaker 5: especially when you have on when you up for free
- 17:24Speaker 5: agency next year, I think, you know, ideally, maybe you
- 17:26Speaker 5: find something with Sour or Mafi keep calling, I keep
- 17:29Speaker 5: going back and forth. So so it just depends on
- 17:31Speaker 5: that the sentence, which is what I call them. It's
- 17:34Speaker 5: so it's a city, so it should be like urban
- 17:36Speaker 5: knitter instead of urban.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I feel like this is what people do with my
- 17:41Speaker 3: urban crucheer. I feel like this is what people do
- 17:44Speaker 3: with my name. Brom Oh, Tamara, Tamra Tomorrow.
- 17:51Speaker 4: It's Tamara, Yeah, never right, It is Tamara.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Get the air in the mid This whole.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Time, it was just Tomorrow in the last name is
- 18:00Speaker 1: pronounced Smith really wrong.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I have the easiest last name ever, and it's funny
- 18:06Speaker 3: when I tell people, like my last name. They're like,
- 18:07Speaker 3: can you spell it? I'm like the color and they're like, okay.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Well it could be b R A U N perhaps.
- 18:16Speaker 11: R O w n E.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I've heard it.
- 18:19Speaker 9: I've seen it with.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Any at the end, Yeah, Brownie.
- 18:23Speaker 1: You know there was a public relations person I think
- 18:26Speaker 1: she was with the Dolphins. Her name was Fudge Brownie.
- 18:29Speaker 9: That was her name was Budge had to have been
- 18:33Speaker 9: a nickname.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Now that's like, you know, the NFL comes out with
- 18:37Speaker 1: a black book that is all the staffs of all
- 18:40Speaker 1: the various teams, and that's what was listed. Fudge Brownie.
- 18:43Speaker 5: It's very sweet, sweet girl.
- 18:46Speaker 1: She was not.
- 18:49Speaker 5: It was a slow burd on that one.
- 18:51Speaker 9: All right.
- 18:52Speaker 1: A five five pats five hundred is the a stick
- 18:54Speaker 1: and hutline. Web radio at patries dot com is the
- 18:56Speaker 1: email address. All right. So that's the offensive line we're hoping, Uh,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know, we see some people back for this game,
- 19:04Speaker 1: get you know, get some rust off. Anyway, who else
- 19:08Speaker 1: might we see this game you know that will get
- 19:13Speaker 1: extended looks that you know have potential to.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Let me just smart. Let me just preface that with guys.
- 19:18Speaker 5: We actually Gonzales got a little dinged up ankle thing
- 19:21Speaker 5: right at the end of practice yesterday and Henry. I
- 19:22Speaker 5: didn't see the Henry one. He got dinged up a
- 19:24Speaker 5: little bit. And Douglas has been really not participating. He's
- 19:28Speaker 5: been warming up and then going so three guys that.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Are top Douglas so much that now he's not even
- 19:33Speaker 4: practicing in front.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But I would imagine even if it's minors, I think
- 19:37Speaker 1: probably won't guys probably with his I mean, he seemed
- 19:40Speaker 1: like he was right back out there and no worse
- 19:42Speaker 1: for Whear after that injury he had briefly in the
- 19:45Speaker 1: second Green Bay practice, But I suspect we're not going to.
- 19:48Speaker 9: See those guys are probably sicky on that list too. Yeah,
- 19:51Speaker 9: in the red Red Jersey the.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Whole time, Alex, you as high on Keon White as
- 19:54Speaker 1: I am.
- 19:55Speaker 9: Yes, Yes, I see a potentially more athletic Trey Flowers.
- 19:59Speaker 9: Trey Flowers is my from coming out, and I just
- 20:01Speaker 9: feel like that's been built on and it's part of
- 20:03Speaker 9: the reason I like the fact they signed Trey Flowers. Honestly,
- 20:06Speaker 9: what a great asset for what a great guy for
- 20:09Speaker 9: Keon White to learn from. But I think you look
- 20:11Speaker 9: at a guy that is built and has the play
- 20:13Speaker 9: strength of a traditional strong side edgesetter, but has some
- 20:17Speaker 9: more athleticism to maybe deal with some faster quarterbacks or
- 20:20Speaker 9: if teams are going to try to, you know, put
- 20:22Speaker 9: him in conflict at the point of attack and read
- 20:24Speaker 9: options or things like that. Really new agy defensive lineman,
- 20:29Speaker 9: and there's a couple of different things they can do
- 20:31Speaker 9: with him. I know we saw him standing up a
- 20:32Speaker 9: little bit. I think he should mostly play hand in
- 20:34Speaker 9: the dirt. But what a fun find, yeah for them,
- 20:38Speaker 9: what a player that gives them a lot of different things.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And I want to ask you, because I don't get
- 20:41Speaker 1: to talk to you as much, but in your opinion,
- 20:44Speaker 1: does he have the potential to be better in the
- 20:47Speaker 1: pros than he was in college? Oh yeah, relatively speaking.
- 20:50Speaker 9: So to me, he's an upside player and that's part
- 20:52Speaker 9: of the reason I'm so encouraged. His background. He was
- 20:55Speaker 9: at Old Dominion as a tight end and then moved
- 20:58Speaker 9: to defensive end, had to sit out the COVID year,
- 21:01Speaker 9: so really not a ton of playing time at the
- 21:03Speaker 9: defensive end position. He's just sort of a freak athlete.
- 21:06Speaker 9: And they've done this in the draft to different extents
- 21:09Speaker 9: the last couple of years. This guy's really strong, this
- 21:11Speaker 9: guy's really fast, this guy's really big. We're gonna draft
- 21:13Speaker 9: him and teach him how to play football. So when
- 21:15Speaker 9: they pick this is great, Like what a what a
- 21:17Speaker 9: guy to mold into what you want him to be.
- 21:20Speaker 9: But he's even more of an athlete than maybe I
- 21:22Speaker 9: thought he'd be. And he's clearly a quick learner too,
- 21:25Speaker 9: So I think his ceilings even higher than what we've seen.
- 21:27Speaker 9: But yeah, I think he has a lot of potential
- 21:29Speaker 9: because I would say his pick was a lot more
- 21:31Speaker 9: upside than it was floor.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I think some of like the plays, like to your
- 21:34Speaker 5: point out, it's just stood out to me in that
- 21:35Speaker 5: first game, we're just his like pursuit after play, I mean,
- 21:38Speaker 5: getting back over you know, to get CJ. Stroud like,
- 21:41Speaker 5: you know, after a couple of yards. I mean, he
- 21:43Speaker 5: just he seems to play the game at at a
- 21:45Speaker 5: really good I think.
- 21:46Speaker 9: The play that defined him for me this year was
- 21:49Speaker 9: I think it was like the second play of the game.
- 21:51Speaker 9: He whoever the tackle is he's going against, just throws
- 21:55Speaker 9: them off of him, explodes out of stance, throws him
- 21:57Speaker 9: off him and he's got a straight shot at CJ.
- 21:59Speaker 9: Stroud and you can't really practice that right because you
- 22:01Speaker 9: don't hit the quarterback. And it's him and c. J.
- 22:03Speaker 9: Strut looking at each other and he's kind of like
- 22:05Speaker 9: now what Like, now what do I do? And he
- 22:07Speaker 9: over pursues in Stroud whips around him. Very coachable moment, Yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 9: very coachable moment. But the way he gets a lignement
- 22:13Speaker 9: off him close the distance between him and Stroud. He's
- 22:16Speaker 9: just got to learn kind of what to do at
- 22:17Speaker 9: the point of attack, which will come. It's true for
- 22:19Speaker 9: a lot of young pass rushers. I saw that plan.
- 22:21Speaker 9: I was like, all right, here we go, Like this guy,
- 22:23Speaker 9: this guy's got something.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Yeah. The closing burst of the quarterback has been impressive.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Like he I didn't think he had that playmaking gear
- 22:31Speaker 4: on film at Georgia Tech, but he showed a much
- 22:33Speaker 4: different gear in terms of closing to the quarterback, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 4: exploding out of his stance, finishing plays. And they have
- 22:41Speaker 4: two really really good coaches and joke him and DeMarcus
- 22:44Speaker 4: Covington that will teach him how to use his hands
- 22:46Speaker 4: and get off blocks because.
- 22:47Speaker 1: The stats in college really didn't tell you that that
- 22:50Speaker 1: he would have.
- 22:51Speaker 9: That right well, because again he was still learning. I
- 22:53Speaker 9: was giving Evan. I was kind of getting on Evan
- 22:55Speaker 9: for this on catch twenty two. Ye, you didn't see
- 22:58Speaker 9: his explosiveness when you watch him at Georgia Tech. When
- 23:00Speaker 9: he went back to Old Dominion and watch.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Him as a tight end.
- 23:02Speaker 9: You saw how will he moved in the open field,
- 23:04Speaker 9: and so I think you're seeing some of that translate
- 23:07Speaker 9: and carry over.
- 23:08Speaker 1: All Right, who's this nose tackle they because when they
- 23:10Speaker 1: signed him, he was running around with his shirt.
- 23:15Speaker 9: Of that was that was our guy going into the
- 23:17Speaker 9: draft last year and him.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Were both really high. I said, how many mock drafts
- 23:21Speaker 4: did we do? Where we took Mark the seventh.
- 23:24Speaker 9: Round, sixth round Mark because everybody wanted Jordan Davis and
- 23:27Speaker 9: then Travis Jones, the kid from yukon seventh round Jordan Davis.
- 23:30Speaker 9: That's that's what you were like, get him in the
- 23:32Speaker 9: sixth or seventh round.
- 23:33Speaker 4: We got sixth round Dave Flowers, we got seventh round
- 23:35Speaker 4: Jordan Davis, and it's all gonna work out, all right.
- 23:38Speaker 5: So I guess he failed as physical and he's out
- 23:40Speaker 5: so much for that. Yeah, gone tomorrow. So they do
- 23:44Speaker 5: have an open.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Listen, that's one of those that hey, look, you know
- 23:47Speaker 4: you get healthy, you call you back in a couple
- 23:49Speaker 4: of weeks. Now, you know, Carl Davis like these just
- 23:51Speaker 4: big nose tackles that they've liked over the years. But
- 23:54Speaker 4: that's Mark.
- 23:55Speaker 9: Mark McCall's not big. He's big. He is down four
- 23:59Speaker 9: hundred big, right, he was so he was playing it
- 24:01Speaker 9: at six three three eighty in college. He's now at
- 24:04Speaker 9: six three three forty. And there's actually this really interesting
- 24:07Speaker 9: piece some somebody did when he was at Kentucky about
- 24:09Speaker 9: like his process of losing weight and how he felt
- 24:11Speaker 9: like he would help him in all of that. But
- 24:13Speaker 9: he is I mean, he he's got what is it,
- 24:16Speaker 9: like thirty pounds on Vince Wilfork or something like that.
- 24:18Speaker 4: He eats up space. Yeah, so he's a really big dude.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Did he fail because of He didn't fail because of weight?
- 24:24Speaker 5: Noice? Oh, carrying around all that weight not going for
- 24:28Speaker 5: the knees.
- 24:29Speaker 9: Was Apparently he claims he lost all that weight because
- 24:30Speaker 9: he just stopped drinking apple juice. What apple juice? Yeah,
- 24:34Speaker 9: really like a lot of sugar.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Wait a minute, how much apple? You say you're drinking.
- 24:38Speaker 9: A gallon enough?
- 24:40Speaker 1: I mean when I was a kid in high school,
- 24:43Speaker 1: I would literally drink a half a gallon of orange
- 24:46Speaker 1: juice at a sitting half a gallon. I would, guy,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I would just take that out of the fridge and
- 24:52Speaker 1: chug it and we would have it delivered because we
- 24:55Speaker 1: had like the milk guy that he would he would
- 24:57Speaker 1: deliver milk hood and orange juice. We would just buy
- 25:00Speaker 1: it and I would just drinking.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Is not that good.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I love it, but it's not. It's done a lot
- 25:06Speaker 1: of sugar.
- 25:07Speaker 5: It does, but I like it in the morning. It
- 25:08Speaker 5: cuts through the morning grime.
- 25:11Speaker 9: Yeah, that's my strategy. Like, if I start feeling sick,
- 25:14Speaker 9: I'll go buy like a gallon of orange juice and
- 25:16Speaker 9: just inhale it.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Oh, I'm an apple juice guy. I like apple juice, toots,
- 25:22Speaker 4: apple juice.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I like fruit juice in general, but it's not always
- 25:26Speaker 1: the best for you that come.
- 25:27Speaker 5: There's no alcoholic drinks with apple juice, orange juice, I
- 25:31Speaker 5: can't think of it. Is there an apple juice, martini.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Cider, apple martini's, but never, like.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Give me an apple juice and vodka.
- 25:39Speaker 9: That's basically that's what red That's what reds is. Reds
- 25:42Speaker 9: is not it's called a cider. It's not a cider.
- 25:45Speaker 9: It's just apple juice and.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Juice, dark alcohol, dark liliquor. It's good with apple juice.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Don't quote me like cran apple.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Whiskey and apple juice.
- 25:54Speaker 10: There's isn't there sounds weird?
- 25:57Speaker 9: No, I get this, just like maple whiskey. Do that
- 26:00Speaker 9: with some like warm apple juice, little cinnamon fingers, do
- 26:03Speaker 9: the peanut butter.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I wonder if the real health conscious people have V
- 26:06Speaker 1: eight's in vodka.
- 26:08Speaker 9: Get get your Well that's a well it's basically a bloody.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Are kind yeah, but V eight has it's more constant.
- 26:17Speaker 4: The real healthy people just like mix it with water.
- 26:20Speaker 4: V eight no water and alcohol. I got a buddy waters. Yeah,
- 26:25Speaker 4: they're called alcoholics.
- 26:27Speaker 5: Yeah, well we were on we got Evan on the
- 26:31Speaker 5: high noon train.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Now, oh yeah, he's and Dreen only a couple.
- 26:38Speaker 5: They just melt away like that, there's nothing, and then
- 26:40Speaker 5: all of a sudden, like whoa three you get that
- 26:42Speaker 5: three inner a little.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Rush, and then you wake up all drinking drinking those
- 26:47Speaker 1: fruity drinks now, and those they're not that fruity, those
- 26:49Speaker 1: seltzer hundred calories.
- 26:51Speaker 5: It's nice, you know, like you don't want to feel like.
- 26:52Speaker 4: It's refreshing, and it's lighter than beer, so you don't feel,
- 26:55Speaker 4: you know, beer like I feel like I'm like drinking
- 26:57Speaker 4: a meal when I try that's like this eltzers too well.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Here, here's here's the thing about beer that people do wrong.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It's how they pour it.
- 27:07Speaker 9: And people ask.
- 27:08Speaker 1: People say, if you pour it down the side so
- 27:11Speaker 1: that it doesn't have a head and then drink it,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you're gonna get bloated a lot quicker because all the
- 27:16Speaker 1: gases haven't released. What you're supposed to do is port
- 27:19Speaker 1: right down the middle, let that head form, and that
- 27:22Speaker 1: releases the gases and it won't bloat you as much.
- 27:26Speaker 4: So I've been doing it wrong this whole time.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I have to.
- 27:29Speaker 4: I wonder why I get so like, oh look how
- 27:30Speaker 4: good I am?
- 27:31Speaker 9: You know, I don't you want to do the bar
- 27:33Speaker 9: tender port and let it fall off.
- 27:36Speaker 5: It's it's a good marriage tip, evan. Just always release
- 27:39Speaker 5: your gases before before you get it, you know, release
- 27:42Speaker 5: those gases ahead of time and then you won't get
- 27:44Speaker 5: in trouble later.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why you volunteer to walk the dog mike.
- 27:49Speaker 1: All right, what else do we need?
- 27:50Speaker 5: Engaged Bay and It's like Vincelabarti's like, I haven't congratulations,
- 27:58Speaker 5: Vincent party is dead.
- 28:00Speaker 9: And he congratulated you.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Donald Drivers statue way to him.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Graduation literally players going to the podium like aren't you
- 28:08Speaker 3: on your honeymoon?
- 28:10Speaker 5: Before I start, I just want to say love is real.
- 28:15Speaker 4: I can't thanks everybody, thank.
- 28:17Speaker 5: You, but what in all seriousness? We were there one
- 28:19Speaker 5: day and Mike public Greena was like, hey, do you
- 28:21Speaker 5: get engaged?
- 28:23Speaker 1: But I like, you know, like hard a lot of
- 28:25Speaker 1: hardcore football fans. They tell them what you know, their fancy.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You know, we can't get married during football season. Evan
- 28:31Speaker 1: includes ot as.
- 28:34Speaker 5: There's only one they can get married one month.
- 28:38Speaker 4: She knows the schedule, you know, she knows, well that's
- 28:40Speaker 4: going to be the draft and then that's going to
- 28:41Speaker 4: be O t A. And I'm like, yeah, so our
- 28:43Speaker 4: sweet spot is literally like July fourth, Like like we
- 28:46Speaker 4: need to get married between like that one month period
- 28:50Speaker 4: between the end of mini camp and the beginning of
- 28:52Speaker 4: training camp. That's our sweet spot.
- 28:54Speaker 5: And honeymoon and honeymoon both. QUI got like six days
- 28:56Speaker 5: for that.
- 28:57Speaker 11: Wow, we get back.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Okay, all right? Anything else?
- 29:01Speaker 3: I feel like, wait, when was the last show ten
- 29:03Speaker 3: to twelve Tuesday. Yeah, so that was before we saw
- 29:06Speaker 3: Gaseki back to practice.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Right, Yep. It's good to see him back.
- 29:10Speaker 3: He's in a non contact.
- 29:11Speaker 5: A little surprised him. I mean, I didn't see the
- 29:13Speaker 5: I didn't see the injury, so I don't know how
- 29:14Speaker 5: surprised you.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Oh, it was pretty bad. Yeah, he was. He was hurting. Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 4: I just I I know this is when I walked
- 29:20Speaker 4: out there and we were doing attendance, Alex and I
- 29:23Speaker 4: and he was on the Buyknox and he's like seventy one,
- 29:25Speaker 4: and I was like seventy one, Like what I mean?
- 29:29Speaker 4: And I gotta admit, like I sigh of relief, honestly,
- 29:32Speaker 4: like seeing just one starter back out there on the
- 29:35Speaker 4: offensive line, seventy one Mike on winning obviously, Like that
- 29:38Speaker 4: was just he is just a monumental addition because we
- 29:42Speaker 4: weren't sure if he was gonna be ready to go,
- 29:44Speaker 4: and if he starts the year on pupp then he's
- 29:46Speaker 4: out for the first six weeks of the year. So
- 29:48Speaker 4: he's I think he's gonna start week one. I think
- 29:50Speaker 4: he's gonna be good to go.
- 29:51Speaker 1: That's great.
- 29:52Speaker 5: I just feel weird about strange because it didn't feel
- 29:53Speaker 5: like even when he got hurt, it didn't seem like
- 29:55Speaker 5: that big a deal, Like he was kind of like
- 29:56Speaker 5: still working on it and running around.
- 29:58Speaker 9: It was reported that day that it was think the
- 30:00Speaker 9: tart the phrasing was not very serious or whatever, bizarre.
- 30:02Speaker 5: But I want to bring up some of that. Paul
- 30:04Speaker 5: was One of Paul thinks was that even if those
- 30:07Speaker 5: guys are ready to go, there's a good chance they're
- 30:08Speaker 5: gonna they're not gonna play Wired.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Or Wild week one.
- 30:11Speaker 5: You know, you're gonna need to see some of these,
- 30:13Speaker 5: you know, young kids, probably like Mafi. I would guess
- 30:15Speaker 5: Mafi's gonna play some God.
- 30:17Speaker 4: I'd be okay with playing MASI. I think he's been
- 30:19Speaker 4: especially just the way that he plays. I know stunts
- 30:22Speaker 4: have been an issue for him up front, twists and stunts,
- 30:24Speaker 4: things like that, but he just plays such a rock
- 30:27Speaker 4: solid brand of guard that they can probably be okay
- 30:31Speaker 4: if he's in there. City Sow is a complete project,
- 30:33Speaker 4: and I want no part of him trying to block
- 30:35Speaker 4: us on Reddick.
- 30:36Speaker 1: We want but well, you know, I don't want to
- 30:39Speaker 1: like get too far ahead. But week one, do you
- 30:40Speaker 1: think the game plan will be? You know, to shorten
- 30:44Speaker 1: the game, try to keep it on the ground, keep
- 30:46Speaker 1: hurts in the offense off the field. What do you
- 30:48Speaker 1: think of opening up?
- 30:49Speaker 4: It's a tough defense to run against.
- 30:51Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a big bunch of boys up there, but
- 30:54Speaker 5: I mean Jordan Davis and.
- 30:55Speaker 4: I mean they got Jalen Carter.
- 30:57Speaker 5: I mean it's like Georgia and Alabama like up front,
- 31:00Speaker 5: Like it's there's no easy answers against those guys. They're
- 31:02Speaker 5: gonna the Patriots are gonna have to play great on
- 31:04Speaker 5: both sides of the Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 4: They so they're they're Fanngio Tree team. They run a
- 31:09Speaker 4: lot of Vic Fangio stuff. So there there's it's a
- 31:12Speaker 4: lot of zone and there there will be openings in
- 31:15Speaker 4: the passing game if they can block it. But if
- 31:18Speaker 4: they can block it, it's probably gonna be what we
- 31:20Speaker 4: repeat for the next seventeen weeks of the season. So
- 31:22Speaker 4: U you know, the Chiefs obviously is a totally different animal.
- 31:25Speaker 4: And I know don't have Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelcey
- 31:28Speaker 4: or the Chiefs offense, but they put up yards against
- 31:32Speaker 4: that defense. And I think the Niners probably would have
- 31:34Speaker 4: too if roc Perty didn't get hurt. So I think
- 31:37Speaker 4: it's the secondary is not as good as the front.
- 31:39Speaker 4: The front's unbelievable. They have one of the best fronts
- 31:41Speaker 4: in the league.
- 31:42Speaker 3: You think I was gonna say, I think the cold
- 31:44Speaker 3: strange thing is like probably like Trent Brown, where they're
- 31:46Speaker 3: like very small injury, but they don't want to like
- 31:48Speaker 3: push it, and I'm kind of poping the same for
- 31:50Speaker 3: John Jones.
- 31:51Speaker 4: I just like with him though he wasn't good enough
- 31:54Speaker 4: as a rookie to like give him that type of treatment,
- 31:56Speaker 4: And I really feel like the padded practices would have
- 31:59Speaker 4: done him a lot of of good of trying to
- 32:01Speaker 4: make that year to leap.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Totally agree, And.
- 32:03Speaker 4: I last year he I don't think he was very
- 32:06Speaker 4: good last year. I know that he had some good
- 32:08Speaker 4: games and he was better down the stretch, Like the
- 32:10Speaker 4: last month or so of the season, he was okay.
- 32:13Speaker 4: But I don't think it's talk radio fire to say
- 32:16Speaker 4: he got bench twice like he got he legitimately got
- 32:19Speaker 4: bench twice, Like there's no other way to put it.
- 32:20Speaker 3: But do you think because of the depth issue, they're like,
- 32:22Speaker 3: we can't risk him trying to make him better by
- 32:25Speaker 3: sending him out there. We need to I.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Don't feel that about it. I mean, I think Trent
- 32:29Speaker 5: maybe because they got like nothing besides trying to tackle.
- 32:31Speaker 5: But I'm with Evan and I think just as to
- 32:34Speaker 5: connect it to the Eagles, I mean, talk about what
- 32:36Speaker 5: Cole Strange struggled with last year. The year he's got
- 32:37Speaker 5: about five of those guys up front, you know, are
- 32:40Speaker 5: just gonna walk him back into the quarterback if he's
- 32:42Speaker 5: if he's not ready to play power guys.
- 32:44Speaker 9: And Evan you bring this up a lot like you
- 32:45Speaker 9: can kind of hide one spot on the offensive line.
- 32:48Speaker 9: In last year that was Cole Strange until David Andrews
- 32:51Speaker 9: got hurt. Remember those were his worst games.
- 32:52Speaker 5: He got exposed.
- 32:53Speaker 9: You can't afford to have Cole Strange being the guy
- 32:55Speaker 9: you hide. This year, he's going to have to hold
- 32:57Speaker 9: his own because whether it's at right guard or right tackle,
- 32:59Speaker 9: whatever they up doing with Mikeael and Wanhu, that's where
- 33:01Speaker 9: you're allocating those extra resources you're not allocated on.
- 33:04Speaker 4: The left side.
- 33:05Speaker 9: You hope he's kind of naturally hit a bit between
- 33:07Speaker 9: Trent Brown and David Andrews, but they're there. He got
- 33:11Speaker 9: bench last year when they couldn't fine him, and if
- 33:13Speaker 9: that happens again this year.
- 33:14Speaker 4: That's a major mate Williams took.
- 33:16Speaker 5: His lunch money and can I can I ask you
- 33:18Speaker 5: guys just a quick question. What was your reaction when
- 33:20Speaker 5: the game started out first offensive play with a Trent
- 33:23Speaker 5: Brown two seconds ahead of the snap like we saw
- 33:26Speaker 5: frequently last year.
- 33:27Speaker 4: So he tries to do this all the time where
- 33:29Speaker 4: he tries to jump the snapcount as the team that's
- 33:32Speaker 4: snapping the ball, like obviously pass rushers trying to time
- 33:36Speaker 4: up the snapcount all the time. What is he trying
- 33:38Speaker 4: to time up this?
- 33:39Speaker 9: No, that's the thing now, got Trent Williams does this
- 33:41Speaker 9: all the time. He just never gets called for it.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Trent watch Trent so much last year?
- 33:45Speaker 4: Did Trent Brown leaves early all the time? And I
- 33:48Speaker 4: don't know, I do.
- 33:49Speaker 9: A lot of a lot of the top tackles in
- 33:51Speaker 9: the league.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Tyron Smith used to do it, but he was good
- 33:53Speaker 1: at it.
- 33:54Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 33:54Speaker 9: There's doing it and being good at it.
- 33:56Speaker 4: But I think, obviously, like those guys are great players.
- 33:58Speaker 4: But like I would trend size, like, I just don't
- 34:02Speaker 4: really see why you need to get a head start,
- 34:04Speaker 4: like you have unbelievable like length in terms of your
- 34:09Speaker 4: your kick slide to be able to get out of
- 34:10Speaker 4: your stands because your stride is like ten times longer
- 34:13Speaker 4: than anybody else's. So like, I just I don't really
- 34:16Speaker 4: see what the big advantages of him trying to get
- 34:19Speaker 4: out early. I don't know, Evan, you.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Brought up Rock Purdy. I'm Tony from Canada wants to
- 34:25Speaker 1: know if there's any potential for trading for Trey Lance.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Yeah. We talked about this a little bit on Catch
- 34:30Speaker 4: twenty two. I was a big Trey Lance guy in
- 34:32Speaker 4: the draft, and my big overall Trey Lance take is
- 34:36Speaker 4: I think the forty nine ers did him dirty. I
- 34:38Speaker 4: think the forty nine ers never really gave him a
- 34:40Speaker 4: fair shake or a fair opportunity to develop. He was
- 34:44Speaker 4: a guy that was one hundred and ten percent of project.
- 34:46Speaker 4: He had played one season at the FCS level. He's
- 34:49Speaker 4: a really good year, but then he barely played in
- 34:52Speaker 4: twenty twenty. He was a one game season for them
- 34:54Speaker 4: with the COVID year, and then he comes in and
- 34:58Speaker 4: basically is behind Jimmy from the from the jump, after
- 35:01Speaker 4: they invested all this draft capital. At this point, I
- 35:04Speaker 4: think that if you're training for him, it's a twenty
- 35:06Speaker 4: twenty four investment because you're not going to he has
- 35:10Speaker 4: he needs to develop, he needs reps, and he needs
- 35:13Speaker 4: time in the system, and you're not talking about him
- 35:16Speaker 4: starting for any team this year. But if you feel
- 35:18Speaker 4: like he's worth it in terms of developmental track, then
- 35:21Speaker 4: maybe after spring and training camp next year, like he
- 35:25Speaker 4: could actually make a push up your depth chart, then
- 35:28Speaker 4: I could entertain the trade. But I have never seen
- 35:31Speaker 4: a team draft a player that high, invest that much,
- 35:35Speaker 4: that much draft capital and the guy and then bury
- 35:37Speaker 4: him on the depth chart. It was. It was a
- 35:39Speaker 4: bizarre handling of it.
- 35:41Speaker 9: Kyle Shanahans, Yeah, I mean, like the the Panthers, I
- 35:47Speaker 9: think I had one training camp practice before they named Bryce
- 35:50Speaker 9: Young the starter.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Anthony Richardson, who's just as much of a project as
- 35:54Speaker 4: Trey Lance was, is already the starter and he's not a.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Mistake for the Colt.
- 35:57Speaker 4: I just don't think they have any of their options.
- 36:00Speaker 4: At least the Niners have Minshew, right, Yeah, but the
- 36:02Speaker 4: Niners had Jimmy, so like that was a legitimate option.
- 36:05Speaker 3: But and now I see like a bunch of when
- 36:07Speaker 3: that was announced, I saw a bunch of tweets that
- 36:09Speaker 3: were like, I bet you the forty nine ers are
- 36:10Speaker 3: wishing they picked Mac Jones.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Well that was I mean, they were a little interested
- 36:17Speaker 1: in him, right.
- 36:17Speaker 9: Yeah, so, and I wonder if this is what went
- 36:19Speaker 9: in Lance being a bus There's a report at the
- 36:21Speaker 9: time that Shanahan wanted Mac and Lynch wanted Trey Lance.
- 36:26Speaker 9: So Shanahan was you know, he didn't get the guys.
- 36:31Speaker 4: How do you trade up for it? Like, how do
- 36:33Speaker 4: you Oh no, it was how do you give up
- 36:35Speaker 4: two future first round picks? And you know that the
- 36:37Speaker 4: organization is divided off.
- 36:39Speaker 9: You know how much I hate that trade. You know
- 36:40Speaker 9: how much I hate that that trade. And the Niners
- 36:43Speaker 9: have a top three roster in football, and in theory,
- 36:46Speaker 9: they gave up the equivalent of Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb,
- 36:48Speaker 9: and Jalen Waddle. They could have the same roster they
- 36:51Speaker 9: do now minus trade Lance. You could ad Tyreek Hill,
- 36:53Speaker 9: Bradley Chubb and Jalen Wattle to that thing. Because they
- 36:56Speaker 9: have pulled off I think sort of what the Patriot's
- 36:58Speaker 9: trying to pull off. Instead of keep spinning the wheel
- 37:01Speaker 9: at quarterback and get stuck in the roulette for the
- 37:03Speaker 9: roulette for twenty years, just load up in every other
- 37:06Speaker 9: position and find a quarterback that's a net neutral that
- 37:08Speaker 9: isn't necessarily great, but just isn't back it. I'll lose
- 37:10Speaker 9: your games, right and they had that.
- 37:12Speaker 4: If that was their strategy, though, then, like Chay Lance
- 37:14Speaker 4: is the.
- 37:14Speaker 1: They blew it.
- 37:15Speaker 9: But that's what I'm saying.
- 37:16Speaker 4: They blew it.
- 37:16Speaker 9: They were there, they were right there, and then they
- 37:18Speaker 9: blew it because I don't think Kyle Shanny. I think
- 37:20Speaker 9: Kyle Shannon's kind of overrated. So are the Niners in
- 37:22Speaker 9: the Super Bowl last year? If Mac jams their quarterback, yes, assuming.
- 37:26Speaker 5: He's healthy, Yes, I struggle to make that leap.
- 37:28Speaker 1: But that's that's that's an interesting take.
- 37:31Speaker 3: I think they have the pieces to make Mac Jones
- 37:34Speaker 3: look good in the same way that he was at Alabama,
- 37:36Speaker 3: in the sense that they were willing to go out
- 37:38Speaker 3: and get Christian McCaffrey and you know, keep Samuel like
- 37:41Speaker 3: they were willing to do what it takes to make
- 37:42Speaker 3: their quarterback successful.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Not the case everywhere, for better words, not the case
- 37:48Speaker 4: every guys like Kyle Shanahan. I think Josh McDaniels is
- 37:50Speaker 4: a little bit like this too. I don't know about
- 37:52Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien yet, but they they want their quarterbacks playing Madden,
- 37:56Speaker 4: like if I tell you to throw to this guy,
- 37:58Speaker 4: you throw to that guy, don't throw to the other guy,
- 38:01Speaker 4: like the system tells you to throw to this guy,
- 38:03Speaker 4: like the red tells you to throw to that guy.
- 38:05Speaker 4: And they just want a guy that's just gonna hit
- 38:08Speaker 4: the button on the controller and and that they feel
- 38:12Speaker 4: like their system.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Shanahan treats offenses like Belichick treats.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Defense, just in terms of like the roles and the rolls,
- 38:20Speaker 4: like do your one eleventh data. And that's why the
- 38:23Speaker 4: trail Lance pick made no sense is because he's a
- 38:25Speaker 4: guy that's that's a playmaker, Like he's somebody that's supposed
- 38:28Speaker 4: to elevate your offense instead of the other way around,
- 38:31Speaker 4: wherein all Shanahan wants is a numbers pusher.
- 38:34Speaker 9: They never write, they never need to make that trade.
- 38:36Speaker 9: They blew up the plan. They never ever needed to
- 38:39Speaker 9: do that.
- 38:39Speaker 4: They they were so close to bars, like this is
- 38:42Speaker 4: my take on on how the Patriots should do this,
- 38:44Speaker 4: and then they blew it.
- 38:46Speaker 9: I think that's what the Patriots are gonna do, and
- 38:47Speaker 9: they did it.
- 38:48Speaker 4: Well, then they have to have George Kittle, Samuel.
- 38:51Speaker 9: But I'm saying, I honestly, I honestly believe this. I
- 38:54Speaker 9: think it is easier to acquire the combination of skill
- 38:57Speaker 9: talent than Niners have than it is to acquire a
- 39:00Speaker 9: Patrick Mahomes Joe burrow Es quarters.
- 39:03Speaker 1: You don't you fall into those guys, right, you don't
- 39:06Speaker 1: acquire them. They're not available. You have to get be
- 39:10Speaker 1: lucky or be bad, and you know, get them right draft.
- 39:14Speaker 9: I think it's easy to amass the talent around the
- 39:16Speaker 9: quarterback than it is to add the quarterback. So why
- 39:18Speaker 9: waste time just going through this quarterback roulette? Being the
- 39:21Speaker 9: Bears being that with the Bills were fears being with
- 39:24Speaker 9: the Browns were for years when you can just all right,
- 39:26Speaker 9: we're gonna go get all this other talent and we'll
- 39:28Speaker 9: just find a quarterback that makes it work.
- 39:29Speaker 5: But do you think it's still hard to find that quarterback?
- 39:31Speaker 5: Like I still like you know what I mean, It's
- 39:33Speaker 5: like it's like as I totally get what you're saying,
- 39:35Speaker 5: and it's but it's like, you know, like I don't
- 39:37Speaker 5: want to say like bruck parties don't just grow on trees.
- 39:39Speaker 9: Well, I would say this, Mike, it's been it's to
- 39:43Speaker 9: get which quarterback, the net neutral quarterback.
- 39:46Speaker 5: Even the net neutral quarterback. I feel like, you know,
- 39:48Speaker 5: that's not anything you have to.
- 39:50Speaker 9: I would say this in terms of how hard is
- 39:52Speaker 9: to find the elite quarterback, that twenty twenty one quarterback
- 39:54Speaker 9: class was generational. Trevor Lawrence pinned out that was the
- 39:56Speaker 9: first overall pick. One guy's been benched, might get your
- 40:00Speaker 9: the other guy's been bench bench again, is about to
- 40:03Speaker 9: get traded. And two of the other four guys, including
- 40:05Speaker 9: the guy that was called the safe bet is, are
- 40:08Speaker 9: currently on the hot seat. So if that's a generational
- 40:10Speaker 9: quarterback class, yeah, I'll go find brock Purty, I'll go
- 40:14Speaker 9: find Aid and O'Connell, I'll go find that guy. Because
- 40:18Speaker 9: if I'm gonna have to draft a court essentially one
- 40:20Speaker 9: way or the other, you should be drafting quarterback every
- 40:22Speaker 9: year every other year. It's basically do you want to
- 40:24Speaker 9: be doing that in the first round or do you
- 40:25Speaker 9: want to be doing it in the fourth round because
- 40:26Speaker 9: you can use those first round picks to build up
- 40:28Speaker 9: the rest of your roster, and then when you finally
- 40:30Speaker 9: hit on the guy in the fourth round, which I
- 40:32Speaker 9: think the hit rate's probably kind of similar. Well, look
- 40:34Speaker 9: at this. Yeah, you hit on a guy in the
- 40:35Speaker 9: fourth round, and now look what he's stepping into. There's
- 40:37Speaker 9: all these first round picks around him at all these
- 40:39Speaker 9: different positions.
- 40:40Speaker 1: And if you don't, he's always an asset, right, yeah, exactly,
- 40:43Speaker 1: all right? Eight five to five pats five hundred is
- 40:46Speaker 1: the ace ticket hut line. Let's go to Nate in Texas.
- 40:49Speaker 1: What's up, Nate?
- 40:52Speaker 12: Hey, guys to hear me.
- 40:53Speaker 13: Yeah, Hey, first, first time, long time love y'alls podcast, Douce.
- 41:01Speaker 13: You're talking about orange juice with alcohol, tequila.
- 41:05Speaker 9: Sunrise ape.
- 41:07Speaker 5: Oh, I know, dude, I know orange juice. Don't worry,
- 41:10Speaker 5: I'm saying apple juice, though I don't know a lot
- 41:12Speaker 5: of drinks like, oh yeah, don't worry.
- 41:14Speaker 4: I got it.
- 41:14Speaker 5: I got a orange juice all day, screwdriver.
- 41:20Speaker 13: You know, we were talking about the offensive line, you know,
- 41:25Speaker 13: and I remember I think it was uh, I think
- 41:27Speaker 13: I was listening to this podcast, and uh, they were
- 41:30Speaker 13: talking about the plants. You know, they throw a lot
- 41:31Speaker 13: of plants in the last preseason games. Do you think
- 41:34Speaker 13: that's because of the offensive line? You know, they want
- 41:36Speaker 13: to get the ball out quick. I know you guys
- 41:39Speaker 13: are there for the preseason games and then they're at
- 41:40Speaker 13: training camp. Have you guys seen a lot of that.
- 41:42Speaker 13: You know, you think that Bill O'Brien maybe doesn't trust
- 41:45Speaker 13: the The offense hasn't much offensive line as much, and
- 41:49Speaker 13: that's why they're doing that.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Getting the rid of the ball quick has always been
- 41:53Speaker 1: part of the Patriots.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, I think that's just Bill O'Brien's offense, right, Yeah,
- 41:56Speaker 4: I think you know, we were talking about this too,
- 41:59Speaker 4: A good thing about what I thought that they did
- 42:01Speaker 4: on Saturday night, and what the plan seems to be
- 42:04Speaker 4: is that the deep shots in this offense are gonna
- 42:06Speaker 4: be calculated, like it's not gonna be. Last year they
- 42:09Speaker 4: put Mac in the gun. They're running vertical routes all
- 42:12Speaker 4: over the place and they were playing chuck it and
- 42:14Speaker 4: duck it. And I think this year it's gonna get
- 42:16Speaker 4: back to you know, timely deep shots are just kind
- 42:20Speaker 4: of taking picking your spots, whether it's off of under
- 42:22Speaker 4: center play action or like the occasional seam pass to
- 42:25Speaker 4: a tight end or something like that, that's gonna be
- 42:28Speaker 4: your vertical element. Otherwise it's it's back to death by
- 42:31Speaker 4: a thousand paper cuts. And I think that that's what's
- 42:34Speaker 4: best for the quarterback as well. So they had.
- 42:37Speaker 1: They had a nice play against Green Bay where it
- 42:39Speaker 1: was like a inside handoff very close to the line
- 42:43Speaker 1: to Stevenson where play action where he kind of shoulders down,
- 42:48Speaker 1: you know, really hid the fact that he didn't have
- 42:50Speaker 1: the ball and then Mac threw down the middle. I
- 42:53Speaker 1: forget to who it was, but it was a nice
- 42:55Speaker 1: like sixteen yard pickup, you know, boom boom, real quick.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's you know.
- 43:01Speaker 13: That was another that was That was another question I had.
- 43:05Speaker 13: You know, do you think is going to be more
- 43:07Speaker 13: in the passing games?
- 43:08Speaker 5: I think he'd be heavily involved no matter what he does.
- 43:10Speaker 5: I mean that's just a question of how many snaps
- 43:12Speaker 5: do they feel comfortable getting him out there. But I
- 43:14Speaker 5: mean between him and Hunter Henry see a lot of
- 43:18Speaker 5: a large majority of the place going.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Ye tell me who else is doing well and then
- 43:22Speaker 1: I'll tell you how much came below that.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Remondre Stevens he deserves twenty two is on the KB train.
- 43:30Speaker 5: So KB he's been great. I mean, he kept it
- 43:33Speaker 5: up yesterday. I mean he just keeps showing up and
- 43:34Speaker 5: he looks fast and you know it's good for him.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Jacket and aba. Right now, the training camp's nearly over.
- 43:41Speaker 1: How would you rate the Patriots last three drafts, both
- 43:44Speaker 1: relative to each other in an absolute terms? I suggest
- 43:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty three is the best of the three, then
- 43:50Speaker 1: twenty one, then twenty two, twenty twenty three excellent. Three
- 43:53Speaker 1: potential starters in year one nine ninears, yet nine players
- 43:57Speaker 1: make the team. Twenty twenty one very good starting quarterback,
- 44:01Speaker 1: contributing defensive tackles, starting running back, and twenty one good
- 44:05Speaker 1: starting guard, two cornerbacks, wide receiver, and a backup quarterback.
- 44:08Speaker 4: Twenty twenty two good.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Good, twenty twenty one good yeah, oh yeah, he didn't
- 44:15Speaker 1: do it right.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Twenty twenty two fail.
- 44:17Speaker 5: Yeah f right now it sure it looks that way.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Cole Strange yah Taekwon Thornton trending towards bust. Marcus Jones
- 44:26Speaker 4: good utility dB return guy cool Jack Jones. We all
- 44:30Speaker 4: know the story there, Bailey Zappy backup quarterback. The two
- 44:33Speaker 4: running backs? Are they on this team if they're not
- 44:36Speaker 4: fourth round picks? You know, if one's not a fourth
- 44:39Speaker 4: round pick. And then Kevin Harris, like we both did
- 44:41Speaker 4: roster projections, we don't have Kevin Harris, on the team.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Oh wow, yeah, so I it's way too early.
- 44:47Speaker 9: To Hey, you do like Chason Hines. You have said
- 44:49Speaker 9: he's been good to hign.
- 44:50Speaker 4: I like Chason Hines. There you go, you got one.
- 44:53Speaker 5: But you're right, Evan, You're totally right. I mean, and
- 44:55Speaker 5: then nobody wants to say, like this is past judgment,
- 44:58Speaker 5: and you know, maybe Thornton turns it round, maybe Strange
- 45:00Speaker 5: turns it around. You really hope that they kind of
- 45:02Speaker 5: need to. But yeah, I don't know how anybody looks
- 45:04Speaker 5: at that draft class right now feels great about it.
- 45:06Speaker 4: Strange I would be serviceable.
- 45:08Speaker 9: Yeah, I would say the twenty twenty class is better
- 45:10Speaker 9: than the twenty twenty two class. Oh yeah, Doug, absolutely,
- 45:12Speaker 9: and none of them are as bad like twenty one and.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Twenty was in that class too. Oh yeah, that's a
- 45:17Speaker 4: great class.
- 45:18Speaker 9: Twenty two is not in like the seventeen eighteen nineteen round.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Oh it's trending that way, it's not that.
- 45:23Speaker 9: Yeah it Marcus Jones alone puts it ahead of those.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Marcus Jones gonna be a returner, like you're talking about it.
- 45:29Speaker 9: I say again, Marcus Jones alone.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Just because he's a good punt returner, Evan, What are.
- 45:34Speaker 9: Their biggest needs been the last three off seasons? They tackle, cornerback, receiver.
- 45:38Speaker 9: What did they miss on repeatedly from twenty seventeenth to time.
- 45:41Speaker 4: I hear you, but they last year was such a
- 45:44Speaker 4: big draft for the for the team. It really was.
- 45:47Speaker 4: And I think Cole Strange is going to be a
- 45:49Speaker 4: serviceable starting guard in the league, Like an average NFL
- 45:52Speaker 4: starting guard that was your first round pick. Like that,
- 45:55Speaker 4: that's not good enough, Like average with your first round pick,
- 45:58Speaker 4: not good enough, Taekwon Thornton. I I don't know if
- 46:02Speaker 4: he's gonna be on the team in twenty twenty four
- 46:04Speaker 4: like that, that is trending towards a big bust of
- 46:07Speaker 4: a pick. Like I'm trying to other than Cole Strange,
- 46:11Speaker 4: who will have his role and play his spot on
- 46:13Speaker 4: the offensive line. Like are we sure that Marcus Jones
- 46:15Speaker 4: is going to play defense? Like I I am not.
- 46:19Speaker 5: I think he's gonna get a chance to. I mean,
- 46:20Speaker 5: I think he'll get a chance in the slot.
- 46:22Speaker 1: I think I think specific roles on defense against specific teams.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I think you're gonna need his speed out there just
- 46:28Speaker 1: to keep up with guys and make sure there's not
- 46:30Speaker 1: a lot of yards after catch.
- 46:32Speaker 5: Yeah, but I think to Evan's point, it might be
- 46:34Speaker 5: like you're the fourth matchup corner. You know, You're not
- 46:36Speaker 5: even like, oh yeah, spot, You're like, all right, hey,
- 46:38Speaker 5: I think he could be the corner.
- 46:40Speaker 4: And he's he's And that was a good pick, Like
- 46:43Speaker 4: don't like Marcus Jones in the third round was a
- 46:46Speaker 4: good pick. Yeah, But I come back to too with
- 46:49Speaker 4: with with Taekwon and Strange, you also have to factor
- 46:52Speaker 4: in who they didn't pick in those spots, right, and
- 46:55Speaker 4: the guys that they passed up in the in the
- 46:57Speaker 4: first two rounds where they could have had.
- 46:59Speaker 1: I wanted a speed linebacker.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, they could a had Kwaywalker we just
- 47:02Speaker 4: saw last year.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Really, there were so many people that I was like,
- 47:06Speaker 3: it's happening, it's happening, and then it didn't happen.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Devin Lloyd. They could have had, you know,
- 47:11Speaker 4: Christian Watson who we just saw in Green Bay.
- 47:13Speaker 1: It was one of my guys. And I know.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Everybody laments about George Pickens, but it's not just George Pickens,
- 47:18Speaker 4: Like they could have had a bunch of receivers in
- 47:20Speaker 4: the second round that have had better years.
- 47:21Speaker 9: Honestly, Pikes the guy that gets me. And look, you
- 47:24Speaker 9: can only go with the information she had at the time.
- 47:27Speaker 9: You're going to trade up to fifty for Taekwon Thornton
- 47:29Speaker 9: because you trade up to forty six for John Matchi
- 47:33Speaker 9: because he would have been such a good video you
- 47:34Speaker 9: didn't Yeah it obviously cancer diagnosis game later. He didn't
- 47:37Speaker 9: know that at the time. That that's my second guess
- 47:40Speaker 9: on that one.
- 47:41Speaker 5: I just think, I mean, we've We've talked a lot
- 47:43Speaker 5: about this. This has been what I've been hammering. Why
- 47:45Speaker 5: they are where they are is because they missed on
- 47:46Speaker 5: those drafts. Like Galax pointed out that those drafts. I mean,
- 47:48Speaker 5: and I just think if depending if this season were
- 47:51Speaker 5: to not go great, I think you'd really look at
- 47:53Speaker 5: that twenty twenty two draft and say this was the
- 47:56Speaker 5: icing on the cake of missing on a bunch of drafts.
- 47:59Speaker 5: You kind of had a couple where he had some
- 48:00Speaker 5: positive pieces in twenty twenty and twenty twenty one, and
- 48:03Speaker 5: then you took a big step back in twenty twenty two,
- 48:05Speaker 5: and you know that that that could be a big
- 48:07Speaker 5: problem with those guys.
- 48:08Speaker 3: Twenty twenty two as a whole was a big step
- 48:10Speaker 3: back for that draft class for not having an offensive coordinator,
- 48:14Speaker 3: like just the whole thing back.
- 48:15Speaker 5: I think it was a whole all the way.
- 48:17Speaker 1: It was kind of a wasted season.
- 48:19Speaker 3: It was like you set your team back, you set
- 48:22Speaker 3: Mac back. Like who knows Taekwon could have been better
- 48:24Speaker 3: right now if he had a real offense.
- 48:25Speaker 4: I just feel like the wide receiver position in particular,
- 48:28Speaker 4: and you see it across the league every year with
- 48:31Speaker 4: these rookies. You know, you know right away when they
- 48:34Speaker 4: step on the field, like is this guy for real
- 48:36Speaker 4: or is he not?
- 48:37Speaker 5: Like he just Donzalez White?
- 48:39Speaker 9: Yes, yeah, right.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Like and it just at that position in particular. There's
- 48:43Speaker 4: so many, so much wide receiver talent coming into the
- 48:45Speaker 4: league every single year, and all those camps that you
- 48:49Speaker 4: hear about like I know he got hurt, but like
- 48:51Speaker 4: Jackson Smith and Jig but was looking great. Look at
- 48:53Speaker 4: Zay Flowers in Baltimore right now, Like all these guys
- 48:56Speaker 4: just instantly just coming in and being good.
- 49:00Speaker 1: We just need to get mad in a room with
- 49:01Speaker 1: a blindfold truth serum. Who's really making this?
- 49:05Speaker 3: That's what I want to know, because they could have
- 49:06Speaker 3: gotten say if they wanted to say Oh yeah.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I won't.
- 49:10Speaker 4: I won't get on them for taking Christian Gonzales over Za,
- 49:14Speaker 4: but I do like, I'm not ready to take the
- 49:15Speaker 4: victory lap on Za yet because I don't do that
- 49:17Speaker 4: in the preseason. But if this, if he's trending in
- 49:20Speaker 4: this direction once we get into the regular season too,
- 49:23Speaker 4: because there's a lot of people that called into this show.
- 49:26Speaker 4: He went to Boston College, he's only five foot nine,
- 49:29Speaker 4: and like all these people saying, like all the things
- 49:31Speaker 4: that were wrong with him, the guy moves differently than
- 49:34Speaker 4: everybody I knew.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Well, I suspect he will be good, just because he
- 49:39Speaker 1: was from Boston College and he was getting that much
- 49:41Speaker 1: national attention. Yeah, you know, name the receiver from BC
- 49:44Speaker 1: that got that much attention.
- 49:45Speaker 4: We heard it all down year for receivers. He's too small,
- 49:49Speaker 4: bad level competition.
- 49:50Speaker 1: You knew we had to be good to, you know,
- 49:52Speaker 1: to get that type of attention from BC. Yeah.
- 49:55Speaker 5: I mean the thing that that bugs me a little
- 49:56Speaker 5: bit is like, and and this is not a slight
- 49:58Speaker 5: on to Mario Douglas or or on Kishan Booty at all,
- 50:01Speaker 5: but it's like, if those guys that went in the
- 50:03Speaker 5: sixth round are popping like this, like what would Zay
- 50:06Speaker 5: Flowers look like popping? Because he's better than Pop Douglas,
- 50:10Speaker 5: you know, like he's gonna so it's like that, And that's.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Like the frustration of what we call him Pop Flowers.
- 50:15Speaker 5: Why can't we just get one of these guys in
- 50:16Speaker 5: the early round that you know, like it's it's not like,
- 50:19Speaker 5: oh my god, a six round pick, It's.
- 50:20Speaker 9: Like it's expected. I think that's kind of what they
- 50:23Speaker 9: want Kayshawn Booty to be because he's he he does
- 50:26Speaker 9: flash real first round Allent and he did it.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Elis He's got burst man.
- 50:30Speaker 4: Yeah, but they have so so Douglas. Is that that's
- 50:34Speaker 4: the brand that they should be looking into. Right quickness, route,
- 50:37Speaker 4: running ability, speed, Like that's what works in this offense.
- 50:42Speaker 4: Just take Pop Douglas in the top fifty so you
- 50:45Speaker 4: get like you get like designer brand Pop Douglas instead
- 50:49Speaker 4: of But I don't understand it, Like that's the.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Whole off season, I said, I really hope they don't
- 50:55Speaker 3: get like generic Walmart brand players. Can you just get
- 50:59Speaker 3: me like the target the like just designer brand player,
- 51:03Speaker 3: Like I don't want to just want the brand. I
- 51:05Speaker 3: don't want the Equay brand. I want the real.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Then they draft Taekwon or like Nikhil Harry and you're like, well,
- 51:10Speaker 4: that's not that's not it, Like that's not like, that's
- 51:13Speaker 4: not what we want. And then they draft Pop Douglas
- 51:15Speaker 4: in the sixth round and we're talking about him as
- 51:17Speaker 4: a real contributor. It's like, if you had just drafted
- 51:20Speaker 4: Pop Douglas in the second round, then that guy would
- 51:23Speaker 4: be making the Pro Bowl right now, Like I don't understand, like.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Even like cold strange, like no offense, that was like
- 51:28Speaker 3: the equate version of what we needed for that position.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Why couldn't you get me like the real?
- 51:32Speaker 1: You could have had him, even if you love Cole Strange.
- 51:36Speaker 9: To me, you could have had Christian Watson, who is
- 51:38Speaker 9: that higher, you know, more advanced Taekwon Thornon.
- 51:40Speaker 3: It's like if I have to google your school, if
- 51:42Speaker 3: I'm like what what is that?
- 51:44Speaker 14: Like?
- 51:44Speaker 3: If I have to be like we're done except for
- 51:46Speaker 3: except where, except for you know, Judon, he's a diamond
- 51:50Speaker 3: in a rough, like I've never.
- 51:51Speaker 9: Heard of his school before A gand Valley State.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Yes, until now. But you're not always.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Gonna find what about Leonora Ryan for Douglas.
- 52:01Speaker 4: Dougger though, like people knew Dugger, Like Dugger was a
- 52:03Speaker 4: big practed in the scround. Cole Strange in the in
- 52:07Speaker 4: the first round was like up there with Jordan Richards
- 52:10Speaker 4: in the second round. Like that was like right up
- 52:12Speaker 4: there with some of the bigger reaches that they've ever.
- 52:14Speaker 9: I remember there's like a four or five year stretches
- 52:16Speaker 9: was like the Jordan Richards Tavon Wilson years where you
- 52:18Speaker 9: watch the draft on ESPN and they have the highlight
- 52:20Speaker 9: package ready and it's always he's gonna be the first
- 52:22Speaker 9: player drafted that they don't have the highlight package ready
- 52:24Speaker 9: for like four or five years in a rows Patriots draft.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Oh for sure, Oh yeah, I was a safe.
- 52:29Speaker 3: I just feel bad because I'm like, I really hope
- 52:30Speaker 3: that the scouting department is not doing all this work
- 52:33Speaker 3: just for like none of it to get.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Used right well.
- 52:36Speaker 5: And it's hard to know what to think, but I think,
- 52:38Speaker 5: like just going back to your point to mare about
- 52:39Speaker 5: last year and you know, just everything of last year,
- 52:42Speaker 5: and I just think as we wrap up this preseason
- 52:44Speaker 5: and all the changes that have happened this year, like
- 52:46Speaker 5: that's what's kind of hanging over this team for me,
- 52:48Speaker 5: is did.
- 52:49Speaker 11: They get over last year?
- 52:50Speaker 5: Are the guys that didn't really know what they were doing,
- 52:52Speaker 5: weren't able to produce in the offensive system they installed?
- 52:55Speaker 5: Are they able to get away from that? And I
- 52:57Speaker 5: felt early in camp there was kind of a shadow
- 53:00Speaker 5: of last season, still kind of hang. I don't feel
- 53:02Speaker 5: that as much right now. It feels like they're kind
- 53:03Speaker 5: of developing their own identity. But I still feel a
- 53:06Speaker 5: little bit like, all right, you gotta you gotta show
- 53:08Speaker 5: it to me, you gotta show me. And that's why
- 53:10Speaker 5: when Trent Brown false started like, I'm just like, that's
- 53:13Speaker 5: a flavor of last year and I don't like it.
- 53:16Speaker 5: And the same way get that out of our mouth.
- 53:18Speaker 5: The same way it's like, all right, first drive, you
- 53:20Speaker 5: get the ball in a box, snap, you know, you
- 53:22Speaker 5: get the like like you know, like those just all
- 53:24Speaker 5: felt like.
- 53:28Speaker 4: We always joke with Paul that he has his pick threes.
- 53:31Speaker 4: That was a pick seven they did spot, so maybe
- 53:35Speaker 4: you know that that progress. There's a little bit of progress.
- 53:38Speaker 3: There, but without that pass interference in the end zone,
- 53:41Speaker 3: it would have been a pick three.
- 53:43Speaker 4: Yeah, but he got held, so.
- 53:45Speaker 9: He did get There's a good round combination that led
- 53:47Speaker 9: to it, Yeah, Brian.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Matt writes in after listening to Felger and Maz yesterday,
- 53:52Speaker 1: Mike brought up a good argument after Trey Lance was
- 53:55Speaker 1: demoted to third string. Would you trade a mid round
- 53:57Speaker 1: pick and or Zappi for Lance? I feel taking a
- 54:00Speaker 1: chance is a good idea if he's available. The upside
- 54:03Speaker 1: is huge with little risk. If fans are so excited
- 54:06Speaker 1: by a small showing from cunning him, I can't imagine
- 54:09Speaker 1: everyone wouldn't love Trey Lance.
- 54:11Speaker 4: So Trey Lance's filmed so far in the NFL I
- 54:13Speaker 4: should point out as horrible. Yeah, like he was terrible
- 54:16Speaker 4: in the games that he did actually play. The thing
- 54:18Speaker 4: about trading Zappy for him is that Zappi is the
- 54:21Speaker 4: perfect backup quarterback he played. He plays a similar brand
- 54:24Speaker 4: of football as Mac. You know what you're gonna get
- 54:27Speaker 4: in him, and Trey Lance is the total opposite of that.
- 54:30Speaker 4: He's a volatile, not system fit backup quarterback. So like,
- 54:35Speaker 4: who's the Like, I'm if you're gonna draft another Bailey
- 54:39Speaker 4: Zappy next year and that's gonna kind of be your
- 54:41Speaker 4: backup and Lance's gonna be your wild card and that's fine,
- 54:44Speaker 4: But you can't trade zappy now for Trey Lance, because
- 54:47Speaker 4: if Mac goes down, then you're reinventing the wheel in October,
- 54:51Speaker 4: and that I think is gonna be dicey.
- 54:53Speaker 10: It's a weird spot for him.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Do you think they just haven't given Lance like the
- 54:57Speaker 3: time and like effort to make because I mean, like, say,
- 55:01Speaker 3: if that injury didn't happen to him last year, I'm
- 55:04Speaker 3: like he would have had the whole season to kind
- 55:05Speaker 3: of like.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Well, not saying that if they gave it to him,
- 55:08Speaker 1: he'd still do well, you don't know, but they haven't given.
- 55:11Speaker 9: Him the I don't think Shanahan never wanted to give
- 55:13Speaker 9: him a chance.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's something. This is a good one. It's
- 55:17Speaker 1: about Hard Knocks. I'll rate it, Alex.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Do you watch Hard Knocks? Wait?
- 55:22Speaker 9: I'm not a big Hard Knocks Only.
- 55:25Speaker 4: Only Fred is watching.
- 55:27Speaker 9: It makes me sad about the loss of last Chance
- 55:29Speaker 9: to you. That was the behind the scenes football.
- 55:32Speaker 5: Literally.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Veronica's dad messaged her and was like, the reviews of
- 55:37Speaker 3: Hard Knocks have not been good. He is a phony.
- 55:39Speaker 3: And then I responded and I was like Fred and
- 55:41Speaker 3: him are on the same page, same page.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers has apparently never missed a throw in training camp,
- 55:46Speaker 1: so much of each episode consists of slow motion clips
- 55:49Speaker 1: of Rogers making perfect throws. I would predict that the
- 55:52Speaker 1: Jets will have a perfect offense this year, except Robert
- 55:56Speaker 1: Salah hates the offense. Every episode he gushes about them
- 55:59Speaker 1: on the side and then trashes them in every meeting.
- 56:02Speaker 1: He's constantly saying that last year was their fault, in
- 56:05Speaker 1: that if the team struggles this year, it's one hundred
- 56:07Speaker 1: percent on them. The defensive coordinator is a definition of
- 56:11Speaker 1: a meathead. He's the type of guy who takes his
- 56:13Speaker 1: shirt off at inappropriate times and is always trying to
- 56:16Speaker 1: work how much he can bench press into every conversation.
- 56:20Speaker 1: Through three episodes, I haven't heard him say anything regarding
- 56:23Speaker 1: defensive style, game planning, or philosophy. Just a bunch of
- 56:27Speaker 1: catchphrases he read on a jar of Krea team. Well,
- 56:29Speaker 1: I don't expect him to be given.
- 56:31Speaker 4: A nomout of that. But but it was it not
- 56:33Speaker 4: the jets offense fault that they were bad last year, Like, no,
- 56:36Speaker 4: it was the wind. Remember I'm just being I understand
- 56:39Speaker 4: that maybe like Robert sala is coming off as sour
- 56:41Speaker 4: grames because the defense is his side of the ball.
- 56:43Speaker 4: But like, they are a playoff team with a respectable
- 56:46Speaker 4: offense last year, so I mean right, like every player problem.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Every player is contractually obligated to kiss up to Rogers
- 56:53Speaker 1: no listen five times a day. This also apparently applies
- 56:56Speaker 1: to the coaching staff. Zach Wilson and Randall Cobbs seem
- 56:59Speaker 1: like decent guys, and I feel sorry for them that
- 57:02Speaker 1: they have to play for the Jets.
- 57:04Speaker 4: Finally, Zach Wilson's I don't I have this email, I've
- 57:07Speaker 4: just disagree with.
- 57:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Finally, my uneducated opinion is that despite all the offseason
- 57:11Speaker 1: signings and despite nailing the last few drafts, the Jets
- 57:14Speaker 1: are still and always will be the Jets. I'm predicting
- 57:17Speaker 1: seven and ten, with Wilson starting by the end of
- 57:20Speaker 1: the season because Rogers is in a cave somewhere chewing mushrooms.
- 57:23Speaker 10: Yikes.
- 57:24Speaker 5: I don't know, man, It's hard to know what to expect,
- 57:26Speaker 5: but I gotta say watched a lot of Jets Patriots
- 57:29Speaker 5: games over the years, and this is the most talented
- 57:31Speaker 5: Jets team I've seen. I had a lot of respect
- 57:33Speaker 5: last year for the players that they have drafted. Why
- 57:36Speaker 5: the Patriots in this position. Granted they didn't have the
- 57:38Speaker 5: high draft capital that the Jets did where they were
- 57:41Speaker 5: able to take some of these guys that have turned
- 57:43Speaker 5: in the studs, but they've hit on them. They have
- 57:45Speaker 5: hit on these these players at important positions. They've got
- 57:48Speaker 5: some questions, but they've got talent too, So I don't
- 57:50Speaker 5: know how it's not going to play out. That's what's exciting.
- 57:52Speaker 1: About Spian Fresno has issues with Barth.
- 57:55Speaker 4: He says, oh, hy no, this is your your new
- 57:58Speaker 4: he hates your neutral quarterbacks.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah right, he says. Bart's net neutral quarterback take
- 58:02Speaker 1: drives me bonkers. It's rooted in outliers and things that
- 58:05Speaker 1: haven't happened. Months back, Evan made the good point that
- 58:09Speaker 1: with Mac, it's probably the only route the Patriots have,
- 58:12Speaker 1: but that doesn't mean it's truly a functional path to
- 58:14Speaker 1: title town. Can a net neutral quarterback possibly win it
- 58:18Speaker 1: with everything schemed up in a full talent pool. Sure,
- 58:21Speaker 1: that could happen, but it's extremely rare and highly unlikely,
- 58:24Speaker 1: and Alex never adequately acknowledges that. He claims it's easier
- 58:28Speaker 1: to build around the net neutral quarterback than to get
- 58:31Speaker 1: your hands on Mahomes, Stafford, Manning, Brady, Wilson, Stafford, Stafford.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Yeah he has.
- 58:35Speaker 9: Oh that's right. He hates this take because he said
- 58:37Speaker 9: he claims that Matthew like ms Matthew Stafford's or.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Wentz, who was a superstar the Eagles the year the
- 58:44Speaker 1: Eagles won. I don't even know Alex is correct about that.
- 58:47Speaker 1: It's an empirical question. Regardless Barth the Niners lost. There
- 58:51Speaker 1: is not a league super Bowl success with net neutral quarterbacks.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Outliers like Nick Foles are not trends.
- 58:58Speaker 4: So Tom Brady is not an outlier, by the way,
- 59:01Speaker 4: He's part of the trend.
- 59:03Speaker 9: So Nick Foles is an outlier, but Carson Wentz isn't.
- 59:07Speaker 9: But that was safe to you. Also, Carson Wentz is
- 59:09Speaker 9: good now and rams Matthew Stafford. Here's where he's missing it.
- 59:13Speaker 9: I acknowledge it is very difficult to win a Super
- 59:16Speaker 9: Bowl with the net neutral quarterback and assembling all the
- 59:19Speaker 9: other talent. Because it is very difficult to win a
- 59:22Speaker 9: Super Bowl. I'm not saying if you just blindly just
- 59:25Speaker 9: do that, you're automatically gonna win a Super Bowl. Both
- 59:27Speaker 9: are very difficult. We're talking about like again, so I
- 59:31Speaker 9: think the net neutral quarterback plan is like more likely,
- 59:34Speaker 9: say that gives you like a point six percent chance
- 59:37Speaker 9: of winning a Super Bowl, where you have like a
- 59:39Speaker 9: point five percent chance of finding that elite quarter But here's.
- 59:41Speaker 1: The thing, and I agree with you, but but when
- 59:46Speaker 1: you base it on the net neutral model and you're
- 59:49Speaker 1: building up around him, it's harder to keep that team together.
- 59:53Speaker 1: If you've got Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow,
- 59:57Speaker 1: you've got that piece, and guys can filter in and out.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: But as long as you've got that piece, you'll always
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: be in contention.
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: Except so it's easier to like recruit players if you
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: have that star quarterback.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: But if and make up for deficiencies, sure that.
- 1:00:11Speaker 9: But if you're but the idea of this plan is
- 1:00:13Speaker 9: you just you cover all the deficiencies because you have
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: the money to do it.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: Because this is what you never paying the quarterback.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: You're never right.
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: You don't have that sixty million dollars a year quarterback,
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: so you have more money to district. That's why the
- 1:00:28Speaker 9: Niners have the roster they have, and they've been able
- 1:00:30Speaker 9: to pay a lot of the guys they've.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Paid because they had a bunch of top ten picks.
- 1:00:33Speaker 9: No, but a lot of those guys have been paid.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Now, yeah, I know, but like the Patriots didn't have
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: a chance to get.
- 1:00:40Speaker 9: But that's different. That's acquiring those players. That's different. I'm
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: saying that. That's that's a whole part of this is
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: you don't have that albatross quarterback contry. Look at what's
- 1:00:48Speaker 9: going on with the Chiefs, right.
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: But that's not killing the Chiefs.
- 1:00:52Speaker 9: They're in it every year, you're right, you know, well,
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: it's not until it Also, Mahomes is Mahomes. And if
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: your plan is to just draft Patrick Malmes, good luck,
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: good luck making that work in a five year window.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Point, if you've got one of those top six elite
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: quarterbacks in this league, you're always going to be in content.
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: You're always going to be in contention, whereas.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: In the other model it can fall apart easily. More
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: easily it can.
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: But if you're if you're starting quarterback, it's hurt. And
- 1:01:21Speaker 9: your whole roster is predicated on the idea of the quarterbacks.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: Kay, then there you go.
- 1:01:24Speaker 9: Then you're done right, Then you're then you're absolutely cooked.
- 1:01:26Speaker 9: As if you're the Niners, you can get down your
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: third string quarterback and still make the NFC Championship.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: See.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: I don't know if you're gonna admit to this, but
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: I feel like this is rooted in the fact that
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: the Patriots have Mac Jones their quarterback, and really the
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: only way the Patriots are going to be in a
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Super Bowl is if the rosters haven't ACKed it.
- 1:01:42Speaker 15: How I'm saying Alex is biased, I'm saying that ninety
- 1:01:46Speaker 15: eight ninety eight five of the Sports up dot Com.
- 1:01:49Speaker 15: I first wrote this take whatever was a week or
- 1:01:52Speaker 15: two after Brady left March twenty twenty. Mac Jones was
- 1:01:55Speaker 15: a backup at Alabama when I wrote this take. So
- 1:01:58Speaker 15: this has Yes, Mac Jones happens to play into it. Absolutely.
- 1:02:02Speaker 15: I'll admit that I would like Mac Jenison.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Succeed because I like that would prove it.
- 1:02:07Speaker 9: Right, He is a guy who.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: Could prove if they weren't a net neutral offense.
- 1:02:11Speaker 9: Right. Yeah, you need you need to get that's speed.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: That's not a Mac Joones th Speece said in the
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: email that I I made the point that that's probably
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: the Patriots path right now because Mac is their quarterback
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: and they're not going to get somebody better overnight. So
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: that's their path right now. And I still believe that.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: My whole pushback has always been how they've spread out
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: the other resources, Like they have decided to pay you know,
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: to Tamara's thing, They've decided to pay a bunch of
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: Walmart people to and then instead of you know, spending
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: the money all in one spot, they've spread it around
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: the entire roster. And Bill believes in that philosophy. He
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: wants to have a strong middle class and one through
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: fifty three and all that kind of stuff. And my
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: as my mind nowadays even more so. But even back
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: in the Dynasty years, it was Brady, it was on Kowski,
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: it was Edelman, it was the High Tower, like those
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: were the guys that were carrying you. But he I
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: think otherwise, all right.

- 1:03:59Speaker 11: All right, we're back quick lunch break. Matisse Bauman here
- 1:04:02Speaker 11: with Dylan, Cinderella and Alex Francisco is joining us today. Hello,
- 1:04:07Speaker 11: you guys wanted to get rid of us, but you
- 1:04:09Speaker 11: can't get rid of us that easily. We're here for
- 1:04:11Speaker 11: the second segment of you know, the Lunch Break for
- 1:04:14Speaker 11: Patriots Unfiltered. And first we are gonna start with a
- 1:04:17Speaker 11: new little gig here. We are gonna do some quick
- 1:04:20Speaker 11: Patriots trivia. So I'm gonna ask three questions and if
- 1:04:25Speaker 11: you get the answer emailed into web radio at Patriots
- 1:04:29Speaker 11: dot com before the end of the segment, the first
- 1:04:32Speaker 11: person who gets the answer correctly will get ever so
- 1:04:36Speaker 11: wanted Patriots Unfiltered T shirt.
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: Did you guys see that people are like knocking these off?
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: Because I posted a picture wearing the shirt ones or
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: of Marcus Jones's parents with the shirts, and someone dropped
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: a link underneath in the comments of a fate of
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: a link that you could buy the shirts, but they're
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: not our shirts. These are dupes. You cannot buy these.
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: I just want you all to know this will.
- 1:04:58Speaker 11: Be an official yes, Patriots Unfiltered T shirt.
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: And whoever comment that stay tuned for your season desists.
- 1:05:04Speaker 11: There we go, There we go?
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:05:06Speaker 11: So first question here, what player did Rob Gronkowski quote
- 1:05:13Speaker 11: throw out of the club during Sunday night football matchup
- 1:05:16Speaker 11: against the Colts in twenty fourteen.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Obviously that's my question, that.
- 1:05:19Speaker 11: Is that is Alex's question right there. All right, So
- 1:05:21Speaker 11: that's the first one. Second question, how long was Adam
- 1:05:26Speaker 11: Vinitari's field goal in the Snowball in two thousand and one?
- 1:05:30Speaker 11: We need the exact yardage here, all right? And the
- 1:05:33Speaker 11: third question, what jersey number did Dion Branch wear in
- 1:05:38Speaker 11: his second stint with the Patriots. All right, those are
- 1:05:41Speaker 11: three questions. First person to get the answer correct to
- 1:05:45Speaker 11: web radio at Patriots dot com before the end of
- 1:05:47Speaker 11: this quick break. We'll get the answer read correctly by
- 1:05:51Speaker 11: Fred on air, and you should get a T shirt.
- 1:05:53Speaker 11: But back to what we're here to talk about. So
- 1:05:55Speaker 11: last week we talked about hot takes.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: I heard it was super well received.
- 1:06:00Speaker 11: Yeah, and that's that's why it's a hot take. But
- 1:06:02Speaker 11: as I said on the last show, we're going to
- 1:06:04Speaker 11: talk about whatever the hell we want to And so today,
- 1:06:07Speaker 11: well pretty much. Madden twenty four dropped the other day.
- 1:06:10Speaker 11: I'm pretty sure the other week. And I was linking
- 1:06:12Speaker 11: back to the old days in Madden, where you know
- 1:06:14Speaker 11: a team, you could move your team to a different city,
- 1:06:17Speaker 11: you know, I start a franchise, move a team where
- 1:06:19Speaker 11: the hell you want. And I was thinking what would
- 1:06:22Speaker 11: be the next NFL expansion franchise team and what city
- 1:06:26Speaker 11: would it be in? So, Dylan, we're starting US cities.
- 1:06:29Speaker 11: We're gonna start with US. We'll get to the international,
- 1:06:31Speaker 11: We'll start with the US. Uh, Dylan, what are you
- 1:06:34Speaker 11: what are your what are your wants for a future
- 1:06:35Speaker 11: NFL team?
- 1:06:37Speaker 10: I think obviously it has to be somewhere in a
- 1:06:40Speaker 10: big market where fans will be drawn to, not only
- 1:06:44Speaker 10: like fans in the in the immediate area, but where
- 1:06:47Speaker 10: people will want to travel to. That's that's like a
- 1:06:51Speaker 10: big thing. So one of the one of the plays
- 1:06:54Speaker 10: that I thought specifically for that reason, because there's just
- 1:06:56Speaker 10: a mass population of people is Austin, Texas.
- 1:07:00Speaker 11: Okay, so you want three Texas teams?
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: I know it is.
- 1:07:03Speaker 10: It's kind of Texas is huge, all right. Austin's far
- 1:07:07Speaker 10: enough away from Dallas and Houston where I think it'll
- 1:07:10Speaker 10: draw its own crowd, and the want for football is
- 1:07:14Speaker 10: obviously there. With University of Texas, Okay, that stadium is huge.
- 1:07:19Speaker 10: They could even host some team or some games like
- 1:07:21Speaker 10: there if they wanted to. But like, the want for
- 1:07:24Speaker 10: football is obviously there. Everyone loves football in Texas. That's
- 1:07:27Speaker 10: been proven time and time again. So you're Austin over
- 1:07:29Speaker 10: San Antonio, Yes, I'd probably say. I think they're both
- 1:07:34Speaker 10: good options, but I think Austin has there's more in Austin.
- 1:07:38Speaker 10: It's like the capital. People will want to travel there
- 1:07:41Speaker 10: like that.
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: Out But in that sense, do you get the La
- 1:07:44Speaker 7: dynamic where there's already so much going on that no
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: one really cares about the sports, especially with the Longhorns there.
- 1:07:50Speaker 10: Yeah, you think that'll ever happen in Texas where people
- 1:07:52Speaker 10: won't care about football, especially like the high school football
- 1:07:57Speaker 10: is obviously huge there.
- 1:07:58Speaker 7: Definitely not, definitely not, but just comparatively to San Antonio.
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: Those people have the River Walk, the Spurs, what else
- 1:08:07Speaker 7: is going on there?
- 1:08:09Speaker 11: I just think three teams in Texas is too many.
- 1:08:14Speaker 11: You go first, I'll take you the city, my city,
- 1:08:17Speaker 11: San Diego.
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: I visited Great San Diego within months of the Chargers leaving,
- 1:08:23Speaker 7: and I went to Peco Park. I went into this
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: little sports shop. The man that owned this place was
- 1:08:29Speaker 7: devastated that they took the Chargers from him, and it's
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: such a shame. It's such an awesome city, it's so
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: much fun, and they've just been robbed of all their
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: sports teams. Fortunately, the Padres are back at a level
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: where they're relevant right now, but I don't think they
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: deserve to have their team taken away.
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: It gets no love in La San Diego needs a fight.
- 1:08:50Speaker 11: That was gonna be my team as well. I hate
- 1:08:52Speaker 11: that the NFL just force fed US to LA teams.
- 1:08:55Speaker 11: The stadiums always empty. Just it's the San Diego Superchargers
- 1:08:58Speaker 11: like they should have did the act payers. I mean,
- 1:09:00Speaker 11: obviously not my money, but you know, just pay up,
- 1:09:03Speaker 11: build the new stadium. What was it Qualcomm Stadium they had?
- 1:09:06Speaker 11: That was a dump.
- 1:09:07Speaker 10: But so you guys are cool with three teams.
- 1:09:09Speaker 11: And no, no, no, I'm saying move the Chargers back
- 1:09:11Speaker 11: from LA.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: So that's not an expansion team's yeah.
- 1:09:14Speaker 10: You're re expanding Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. I
- 1:09:17Speaker 10: like that city team. There we go, we're just wrongs.
- 1:09:22Speaker 10: What about staying in Cali? What about going like to
- 1:09:24Speaker 10: Sacramento up like to the Bay bringing football back to
- 1:09:27Speaker 10: the Bay since Oakland they're no longer.
- 1:09:30Speaker 11: And that's if we keep the two LA teams the
- 1:09:32Speaker 11: new team. I yeah that I don't know. I would
- 1:09:35Speaker 11: like a dream scenario. You got LA San Diego, Zach
- 1:09:38Speaker 11: how it used to be. Yeah, yeah, exactly, all right.
- 1:09:41Speaker 11: I like that because I like we're gonna say wavelength
- 1:09:42Speaker 11: there for my US team. I was leaning Salt Lake City,
- 1:09:45Speaker 11: but I think I think Portland Portland would be interesting.
- 1:09:49Speaker 10: I had both of those, like as a thought, but
- 1:09:52Speaker 10: I agree with you that I think Portland would be
- 1:09:55Speaker 10: better than Salt Lake City. They both have like kind
- 1:09:57Speaker 10: of a similar population, but I.
- 1:09:59Speaker 11: Just I just don't know if Salt City could could
- 1:10:01Speaker 11: keep it up the whole time. Oh no, I don't
- 1:10:03Speaker 11: know if they could keep.
- 1:10:03Speaker 7: Up the maybe, but it's a really cool place it is.
- 1:10:07Speaker 9: Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 1:10:08Speaker 11: I think you could get a really whereas Portland.
- 1:10:10Speaker 7: I mean this is generally speaking, but what I think
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: of Portland, I just think of Portlandia and.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: Like, are there football fans there?
- 1:10:19Speaker 7: I know, the SuperSonics were like the best thing ever,
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: but that's Seattle, and it's like I just lump that
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: whole Pacific Northwest region into the same place where they
- 1:10:32Speaker 7: care about football or like.
- 1:10:34Speaker 10: Poorly going back to college football. Portland is like I
- 1:10:37Speaker 10: think the Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers both places
- 1:10:40Speaker 10: kind of sim close to there, so it's like, you know,
- 1:10:43Speaker 10: people are sort of into the football. But yeah, I know,
- 1:10:47Speaker 10: I kind of agree with you where I feel like
- 1:10:48Speaker 10: it all just kind of like the Pacific Northwest all
- 1:10:50Speaker 10: kind of just lumps together.
- 1:10:52Speaker 11: I'll do one more for you.
- 1:10:53Speaker 10: So I like Salt Lake though, because I mean selfishly.
- 1:10:56Speaker 10: I like salt Lake.
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: It's a beautiful is easily a top three most beautiful stadium.
- 1:11:03Speaker 11: You could have a crazy stadium.
- 1:11:04Speaker 10: And the Jazz are becoming more and more relevant. I
- 1:11:06Speaker 10: know they're like if they're like one of I think
- 1:11:09Speaker 10: they have real Salt Lake soccer teams. So those are
- 1:11:11Speaker 10: the only two professional sports teams.
- 1:11:13Speaker 11: So like, yeah, you know that, that's a good point.
- 1:11:16Speaker 11: All right, I got one more before we go international.
- 1:11:18Speaker 11: This could be hot Hartford.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: You got to give them the whalers before you give them.
- 1:11:26Speaker 11: You know, I always I always wondered and that you're.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: You're you want to take you away from.
- 1:11:32Speaker 11: I don't want to take away I love the Patriots,
- 1:11:34Speaker 11: so I die. I'm just saying, would it be interesting
- 1:11:36Speaker 11: to have you know, you got you got to New
- 1:11:37Speaker 11: York teams, two Texas teams? Interesting to have too, New
- 1:11:41Speaker 11: England teams? Like how many people would gravitate to that?
- 1:11:43Speaker 11: Would it be a big thing? I don't know.
- 1:11:45Speaker 10: You think it would be a divide or would it
- 1:11:47Speaker 10: be like more people who.
- 1:11:48Speaker 7: Are people already have that identity crisis, so let's give
- 1:11:52Speaker 7: them another.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Let's give them another.
- 1:11:55Speaker 10: What about I know you're trying to move on to
- 1:11:58Speaker 10: what you got? What you got? I was like, you're
- 1:12:00Speaker 10: saying two teams in the New England area, what about
- 1:12:02Speaker 10: another team in Chicago?
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: That'd be awesome.
- 1:12:05Speaker 10: I know the Bear Stadium is super old, so maybe
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: they'd have to rebuild that one first. There's but yeah,
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: there's two teams. Like you said, two teams in LA,
- 1:12:14Speaker 10: there's two teams in New York. I just thought it
- 1:12:16Speaker 10: was big enough.
- 1:12:16Speaker 11: I just think the Bears just run that that whole market.
- 1:12:20Speaker 10: Yeah, it would be kind of hard to.
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: Have an obscure one.
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: I know that it's like important, like, oh, we need
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: to have a big market. What if that's not the case.
- 1:12:29Speaker 7: What if you go somewhere where there's really not that
- 1:12:31Speaker 7: much going on.
- 1:12:32Speaker 10: And then you to say, Omaha, not Omaha, But.
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: That's not a bad idea, not quite Nebraska. But if
- 1:12:41Speaker 7: you go a little west of that Jackson Hole, Wyoming,
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: people are loaded out there, so you know they have
- 1:12:48Speaker 7: money to spend. What else is going on in Wyoming
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: other than Jackson Hole? And selfishly, I want you want.
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: To make that trip.
- 1:12:57Speaker 11: Wants to travel?
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: I'm like, what cities?
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: Do I even want to go to?
- 1:13:01Speaker 7: Salt Lake City?
- 1:13:01Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm curious how many people in Jackson Hole or
- 1:13:04Speaker 10: in Wyoming in general actually care about football?
- 1:13:06Speaker 11: Interesting? All right, well I got the word. It's time
- 1:13:09Speaker 11: to wrap up. So I guess you know, if we
- 1:13:11Speaker 11: keep this conversation going, because the show is not going anywhere,
- 1:13:14Speaker 11: we might bring international next week. All right, So this
- 1:13:18Speaker 11: is the cue. If you have the answer to the
- 1:13:21Speaker 11: three trivia questions earlier and you haven't sent them in,
- 1:13:23Speaker 11: and you haven't sent them in yet, you're probably screwed,
- 1:13:25Speaker 11: but you could give it a go. If people didn't
- 1:13:27Speaker 11: send them in yet, Fred will announce the winners on air.
- 1:13:31Speaker 11: Thank you guys for joining me on this second episode.
- 1:13:35Speaker 11: Let's get back to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:13:38Speaker 10: Isn't it time to get exactly what you want?

- 1:14:07Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: History. Manny's in Manchester, New Hampshire. What's up Manny?
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: Manichester podcast at.
- 1:14:20Speaker 12: One point time called called a mediocre coach.
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, no no. I did not stop it.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: Stop it. You're embarrassing yourself. I just but anyway, I
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: did not call it Bill a mediocre coach.
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: I'm sorry. That's it was taken out of context. That's
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: like Fred said that he doesn't think that mac Jones
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: is very good. That's not what he meant.
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: He was. It was something about something different.
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: I've never thought of Bill as a mediocre coach, and
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: I've never said that he's a mediocre coach.
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: Sorry, I might have said.
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: I might have said something like this, if you want
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: to listen, He's had eight plus years without Tom Brady
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: as his as his quarterback, and in those years he's been.
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: A mediocre coach. That's what you said. That's what I said.
- 1:15:04Speaker 9: I remember that.
- 1:15:05Speaker 6: Oh that's what I was refunded the video CoA coach
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: then without Brady, very very important qualifier there, Manny.
- 1:15:12Speaker 16: Well, I think then everybody's a media CoA coach because
- 1:15:14Speaker 16: we don't have to found Brady.
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: Then anyway, Andy reads, Andy Read's not a mediocre coach.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: A good point. That's another great moment.
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: Hey, Patriots fans. If you want to see Toyota's best offers,
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: including those not seen on TV, go to buy at
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: toyota dot com. It's Toyota's official website for deals from
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: the official vehicle of the New England Patriots, Toyota. Let's
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: go places. All right, we're off on our two deuce
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: is in the host seats, so buckle up, strap in.
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: It's gonna get it's gonna get weird, it's gonna get crazy. No,
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: it won't. But first we had we had some trivia winners. Matt,
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: I understand, So let's let's run through those. Thank you
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: everybody who sent in answers.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: The first question was what we'll see if Alex can
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: get these there? Or Tamara chime in? If you think
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: what player did Rob Gronkowski throw out of the club
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: during a Sunday night football game against the Colts in
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: twenty fourteen, you gotta know this. I do know who
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: that is, probably not saying it. Go ahead, okay, hey
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: wait wait, actually it's one of your it's a Notre
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: Dame guy. Actually, it's a Notre dame.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Guy.
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: Go ahead, Alex.
- 1:16:14Speaker 9: It's Sergio Brown, right, Sergio Brown, former Patriot, former Patriot,
- 1:16:17Speaker 9: threw him out of the threw him out of the club.
- 1:16:19Speaker 12: Uh.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: And Matt, who is the winner on that one?
- 1:16:21Speaker 9: Chadd in Atlanta?
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: Chad in Atlanta, email me your address and your shirts. Congratulations?
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: All right? Next one? How long was Adam Vinettieri's field goal?
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: And the O one snowball? Now, there were two field goals,
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: so I'm gonna guess that they're going with the one
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: that tied it to send it to overtime. And he
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: guesses there.
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: Forty eight, right, forty eight?
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: I have no guess, alright, forty five?
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: Maybe maybe it was the overtime one. Man, I don't
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: know either way.
- 1:16:47Speaker 9: Ezekiel and Charleston got that one, right, Eikiel Elliott.
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: Entering the contest already, congratulations, tell him what he's won, Matt,
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: Patriots on filtered T shirts? Send your address in. And
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: now finally another This is just I mean, this is
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: as much of a lay up for Alex Barthurs. You're
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: gonna find what number did Dion Branch wear during his
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: second stint with the Patriots. Oh, stuck eighty four.
- 1:17:07Speaker 9: We'll go because my mind went to eighty three and
- 1:17:09Speaker 9: I remember which one was which eighty four?
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: Eighty four? That is correct, Matt who got that one?
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: Tony doesn't say where he's from.
- 1:17:15Speaker 10: That's poor to me, Tony Taylor, Tony Taylor, email me your.
- 1:17:18Speaker 8: Address where you're from, and obviously your address in your shirt.
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: Size Taekwon Thornton, Tony Taylor, t t Congratulations to the winner,
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: and yeah, guys, tune in again. I think next Thursday
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: we'll have another one of those interstitial shows with Matisse
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: as we get those rolling, and yeah, we're gonna get
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: in the last hour here, Alex, I know you actually
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: you mentioned some I'm gonna set the stage, Maddie. That
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: thing that clip I sent you, Maybe we can can
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: cue that up. But I thought, you know, I'm a
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: big fan of J. T. O. Sullivan's The Quarterback School,
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: and he posted, I believe it was yesterday, a full
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: breakdown of Max game, and so I just had Maddie
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: pull kind of the summation, which I thought was nice
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: and kind of gave a little bit of optimism towards Mac.
- 1:17:58Speaker 17: Go ahead, Mac Jones preseason Week two. Now, let's not overreact,
- 1:18:03Speaker 17: go bananas. But for me, it's just refreshing to see
- 1:18:07Speaker 17: the dude in what I consider a competent, comprehensive NFL
- 1:18:11Speaker 17: offense that's given him answers or running RPOs. We're getting
- 1:18:15Speaker 17: the ball out of his hands quickly for the most part,
- 1:18:17Speaker 17: we're going empty. He's hanging in the pocket, he's got
- 1:18:20Speaker 17: his pocket movement, he's being aggressive down the field. Now
- 1:18:23Speaker 17: was it perfect, No, but you know it's preseason, it's
- 1:18:26Speaker 17: not going to be perfect. But I thought that there
- 1:18:28Speaker 17: were a lot of positive signs for what this offense
- 1:18:31Speaker 17: can become, what Mac Jones probably should and can be
- 1:18:35Speaker 17: all the time.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: So good stuff, I mean pretty positive.
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: Is that what you kind of took away, Alex from
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: watching maca the other night? Yeah?
- 1:18:42Speaker 9: The big thing for me, I said this going into
- 1:18:45Speaker 9: camp like my big thing to watch for mac Jones
- 1:18:47Speaker 9: and acknowledging we won't get to see it probably until
- 1:18:49Speaker 9: preseason games. He got so sped up last year and
- 1:18:52Speaker 9: was that going to carry over or was he going
- 1:18:54Speaker 9: to be able to reset his pocket presence and his
- 1:18:56Speaker 9: confidence in the pocket. You saw that he's manipulating the pocket,
- 1:18:59Speaker 9: he's moved being around, he's he's for the most part
- 1:19:01Speaker 9: feeling the rush. I had one of those sacks was
- 1:19:04Speaker 9: like two seconds the guy got in the backfield. He's
- 1:19:06Speaker 9: not going to feel that that's a breakdown on the
- 1:19:07Speaker 9: offensive line. But you know he's gotta make He's got
- 1:19:10Speaker 9: to make those throws Hunter Henry and Devonte Parker because
- 1:19:12Speaker 9: those those go balls up the scene that is going
- 1:19:14Speaker 9: to be what is field stretching for them? So you
- 1:19:18Speaker 9: want him to hit on those throws and that'll come.
- 1:19:19Speaker 9: You hope that'll come.
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: Again.
- 1:19:20Speaker 9: It's a preseason game, but in terms of just where
- 1:19:23Speaker 9: he was at mentally, I thought he was at a
- 1:19:24Speaker 9: very good place in that game.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: Yes, it was really scary because in the what to
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: watch for this Titans game, Evan said the same exact thing.
- 1:19:32Speaker 9: Evan rips me off.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: They have one of a half brains.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: When we when he talked about what he wanted to see,
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: he said mac Jones because he had come, he had
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: confidence in the pocket. He was so much better compared
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: to last year. Like literally, I was like listening to
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: you just now, I'm like, this is scary. Was he
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: in the room yesterday when.
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: Evan was talking?
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Nope?
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: Probably, So this is the same things.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 1:19:52Speaker 9: The craziest thing is when me and him do mock
- 1:19:54Speaker 9: drafts and we've sent each other like not knowing what
- 1:19:58Speaker 9: the other person is doing, like, hey, I'm working on
- 1:20:00Speaker 9: my mock what do you think? And you know the
- 1:20:02Speaker 9: other one will be like yeah, outside of like you
- 1:20:04Speaker 9: got eight of the ten players to say, Like.
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: It's we both McCall again, we.
- 1:20:08Speaker 9: Both Mark Wamagat. We both had to Mario Douglas. Yeah,
- 1:20:11Speaker 9: well the the uh this year? Yeah, we both had
- 1:20:14Speaker 9: tomorrow I think in the same spot in the draft too,
- 1:20:16Speaker 9: in that same six round picks. Well, part of it
- 1:20:17Speaker 9: is because I find out about these product prospects and
- 1:20:20Speaker 9: then I tell Evan about them, and then that's that's
- 1:20:23Speaker 9: how he knows who to watch. Is I have to
- 1:20:24Speaker 9: tell him because he doesn't watch college football.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: See.
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: But I also think that Evan has a recency bias
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:20:29Speaker 9: That was my take. I introduced that he the Evan's
- 1:20:32Speaker 9: favorite player in the draft is the last player he watched.
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: I've always said that, or Connor McDermott. After he just
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: watched Connor came in. He's like, I don't know, guys,
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: I think Connor mcdorman's putting it together.
- 1:20:41Speaker 9: That's why anytime he'll text me, he'll be like, during drafts,
- 1:20:44Speaker 9: I just watched this guy's great. I'm like, watch three
- 1:20:46Speaker 9: more players and then text me back and tell me
- 1:20:48Speaker 9: what you think of this guy.
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: So you're a really useful resource for him because you're
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: like the guy.
- 1:20:52Speaker 9: He will never admit that, but yeah, no, well, I mean.
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: I'm sure, I'm sure, but it's like everything and I mean,
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: you know, you have somebody that you can talk to.
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: I mean, I've just enjoyed this year having him where.
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: You know, Similarly, I don't jump into college football until
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: January February, I meet tamara Is already.
- 1:21:08Speaker 9: People are always it's it's it's a double edged sword
- 1:21:11Speaker 9: because on one hand, people and Evans and clues will
- 1:21:13Speaker 9: be like, how do you know about this guy? Like
- 1:21:15Speaker 9: what do you?
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: What do you?
- 1:21:16Speaker 9: I'm like, because I watch college football? And then he'll
- 1:21:18Speaker 9: be like, why do you watch college football?
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: Because it's it's like.
- 1:21:21Speaker 9: I'm getting ahead of the curve. But then it's, uh,
- 1:21:26Speaker 9: the other side of it is so I you know,
- 1:21:29Speaker 9: I'm getting excited, you know, December January February, leading free agency,
- 1:21:33Speaker 9: I'm getting all excited about the first round guys that
- 1:21:35Speaker 9: my first round mapped out. By the time people start
- 1:21:37Speaker 9: wanting to talk about the first round with me, I'm like,
- 1:21:39Speaker 9: I already did that. Can we talk about this guy
- 1:21:41Speaker 9: in the sixth round? I found that. I like, like,
- 1:21:43Speaker 9: I'm just so yeah, everybody's catching up.
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: We got to get you to the combine that would
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: be cool, Like you need to go to that.
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:21:48Speaker 9: Honestly, the Shrine Bolt was incredible. I can't thank you
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: guys enough for that, and specifically, I mean the fact
- 1:21:54Speaker 9: they took Tomorrow Douglas. I he was actually guy I
- 1:21:56Speaker 9: talked to a lot there, yeah, not obviously not knowing
- 1:21:59Speaker 9: he was going to be a pay and I got
- 1:22:01Speaker 9: a really good idea of the kind of player he
- 1:22:03Speaker 9: was going to be just through those conversations and watching him.
- 1:22:05Speaker 9: So that ended up being incredibly valuable.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: It was funny when we were planning it because as
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: we were kind of putting it together, I just had
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: the thought and I'm like, look, Evan, I'm not I'm
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: not saying that I'm gonna suggest this, but I'm just
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: gonna throw it out there, like, what are your thoughts
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: on you and Barth doing the Shrine Bowl? And then
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: going right to the Senior Bowl and doing the whole
- 1:22:22Speaker 5: circuit because I know you guys would eat it up.
- 1:22:24Speaker 9: I would have done it. Want to be away from home,
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: any dn't.
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: You could see like the little football angel on one
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: day his fiance angel on the other shoulder, being like, no, no,
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: you can't be gone, but I'd love to go.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: You know you could see the battle was real, but
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: but that was you know, you guys did did great stuff.
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: And I mean you you you got to find a
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: way to get to the combine. I mean that's just
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: a Pope pourrier of pro prospects, and I mean it's
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: it's super fun even for me who doesn't know. Like
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: by that point, I'm like, I just learned about this,
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: Like everybody makes fun of me. I'm like, so tell
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: me about this Marvin Harrison junior guy, you know, And
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: I'm I know enough and how I remember.
- 1:22:58Speaker 9: Like Evan talked to deuced Ball and I get so
- 1:23:01Speaker 9: people who don't know Ducewan went to Kansas State. He's
- 1:23:04Speaker 9: a running back. He's five to five and he's a
- 1:23:06Speaker 9: good player. He's been tearing up Cowboys camp and well
- 1:23:09Speaker 9: and so all right, short running back Evan brings Evan.
- 1:23:11Speaker 9: I guess asked him about Darren Sproles and he texted
- 1:23:13Speaker 9: me I asked fun about darren Sproles, like he got
- 1:23:15Speaker 9: all excited and I'm like, yeah, of course he did.
- 1:23:18Speaker 9: Darren Sproles also went to Kansas State. They have a relationship,
- 1:23:21Speaker 9: they work together a lot, right, And it was just
- 1:23:24Speaker 9: it was like one of those things.
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: So coach football is the best, It.
- 1:23:28Speaker 9: Is the best.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: Well see, and you know you grew up around here
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: like I did, and you know it's not really ingrained in.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: I mean, tomorrow will you grow? That's what it is, right,
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: It's part of the culture there. It's you know, we
- 1:23:37Speaker 5: got a couple of girls that work in PR that
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: went to Alabama and LU. Yeah, and I mean, you
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: know it's and growing up like that just wasn't part
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: of Like I went to the BC game this way
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: like that didn't that didn't do it right?
- 1:23:48Speaker 9: Like I was, I honestly wasn't a huge college football
- 1:23:50Speaker 9: fan growing up. I sort of got into it. I
- 1:23:54Speaker 9: applied when I was applying to college as I applied
- 1:23:56Speaker 9: to Alabama, Missouri, and Syracuse, so I kind of started
- 1:23:58Speaker 9: following those teams. And then when I got to college,
- 1:24:02Speaker 9: my friends were into it, and then it was I
- 1:24:04Speaker 9: kind of started to realize once I started doing this again,
- 1:24:07Speaker 9: I would come into the draft and be late and
- 1:24:09Speaker 9: it was just so much catchup or and I'm like,
- 1:24:11Speaker 9: so wait a minute, you can tell me. You're telling
- 1:24:13Speaker 9: me I can watch football and get ahead of my
- 1:24:16Speaker 9: work and sound smart like no brainer, Yeah, of course
- 1:24:20Speaker 9: I'm gonna. And then I happened to stumble into what
- 1:24:23Speaker 9: is this It's not even just like the sport itself
- 1:24:25Speaker 9: that the culture around college football, the community around college
- 1:24:28Speaker 9: football is just mostly it's a big community and parts.
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: Of excuse me, how you've seen the video floating around
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: everything this time of the year.
- 1:24:36Speaker 18: It's I mean, that's that's a top five entrance in
- 1:24:42Speaker 18: college football literally saying that she's going to be insulted
- 1:24:45Speaker 18: that I'd even say top five and not top.
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: One literally like probably top three. It's obviously I have
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: to give you know, Penn.
- 1:24:51Speaker 9: State there, Penn State's up there, A and M's up there.
- 1:24:54Speaker 9: Yeah you know, but.
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: I just every year seeing that video circulated, I think
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: it was circulated like days ago or yesterday, I was
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: just like getting chills to get ready.
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: Who they got who they got first? Who's tech got first?
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: Coincidentally Old Dominion? When I when you kept bringing up
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: Old Dominion, like O du.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Oh do you?
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: So college football is back, you know, week zero this week.
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: I'm super excited about.
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: It, and I mine too, aren't you coming up?
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: I am, but I can't tell you which game. But
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: I think that this is like going to be an
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: exciting year, except for the fact that I don't like
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: that the NFL is trying to jump in on like
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: some of the college football stations, like some of the
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: games that we have specifically held for college football and
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: now NFL wants them. It's like Black Friday. It's like, no,
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: that's specifically for like college football rivalry games trying to take.
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: In on it, Iron Bowl, egg Bowl. I kind of best.
- 1:25:45Speaker 10: You can't.
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: You can't have an NFL game on that day.
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: Yeah, Okay, that's that's it for college football.
- 1:25:50Speaker 9: I'll take I'll take what I can get.
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: Let's jump over to the phones. Hey, Sean and Vancouver.
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: How you doing.
- 1:25:56Speaker 19: I'm actually in Montreal today, but a bunch of Yeah,
- 1:26:00Speaker 19: I want to I want to clarify something or just
- 1:26:03Speaker 19: express joy in a way because last week I called
- 1:26:06Speaker 19: into the plane about what was happening with Malie Cunningham
- 1:26:09Speaker 19: in terms of his first appearance in the in the
- 1:26:12Speaker 19: first preseason game, and with the way the offensive line
- 1:26:16Speaker 19: looked that game, I was afraid that they would have
- 1:26:20Speaker 19: to put him in with the ones just to see
- 1:26:22Speaker 19: what they could do. And unfortunately, with Chren Brown and there,
- 1:26:26Speaker 19: they were amazing. But they were good enough that you
- 1:26:28Speaker 19: could actually see some developments and then were some plays made,
- 1:26:32Speaker 19: so they didn't have to use Cunningham. But I'm happy
- 1:26:34Speaker 19: about that because now I think he can make it
- 1:26:37Speaker 19: through to the practice squad. You don't have to worry
- 1:26:40Speaker 19: about him being claimed from waivers. So that's that's what
- 1:26:43Speaker 19: I just wanted to express.
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: Yeah, what are your thoughts, Thanks, Sean. What are your
- 1:26:46Speaker 5: thoughts on Cunningham? Now, I mean, he had that big
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: drive at the end of the game. He's you know,
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: I just I mean I saw him yesterday going against
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: the top front seven run a bunch of ight option stuff.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: I continue to think that his primary thing is getting
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: the defense ready for Jalen Hurts, and I don't know
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: what we'll see tomorrow night out of him, but right now,
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: that to me it's not trending, it's not continuing to
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: trend where he's getting high level first team offense those
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: kind of reps anymore that it seems like they're really
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: auditioning him as a receiver.
- 1:27:12Speaker 9: Now, oh the fact they were doing it. Maybe he
- 1:27:14Speaker 9: got enough. I think he's going to make the team.
- 1:27:17Speaker 9: The other thing, I still think their long term view
- 1:27:21Speaker 9: of him as a wide receiver, yeah, just based on
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: the work he's gotten. Look, if he's a quarterback, he'd
- 1:27:25Speaker 9: be wearing a red jersey.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: I know that sounds simple, but I literally have said
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: that the past few shows, and I'm like, I know
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: that the NFL quarterback is trending in that direction of
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: a guy like Cunningham, but I don't think that's like
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: what they what they're keeping going for.
- 1:27:38Speaker 9: And look, he has some skills that I think translates
- 1:27:40Speaker 9: super well to the wide receiver position. Obviously he's an
- 1:27:42Speaker 9: electric ball carrier. But I think there's an element of
- 1:27:47Speaker 9: some people say, oh, just get him on the practice squad.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:27:49Speaker 9: I know he hasn't shown a lot, but there are
- 1:27:50Speaker 9: a handful of teams I think would see him as
- 1:27:53Speaker 9: a good backup, maybe third string quarterback and roster So
- 1:27:56Speaker 9: it's all right, we want to keep you on the roster,
- 1:27:58Speaker 9: but you're still developed mentals wide receiver, like I don't
- 1:28:01Speaker 9: think he adds wide receiver a true wide receiver depth
- 1:28:03Speaker 9: right now. So it's all right, how else can you
- 1:28:06Speaker 9: earn this roster spot for this year so we can
- 1:28:09Speaker 9: keep you around as a project Is it as a
- 1:28:11Speaker 9: gadget quarterback? Is it as a scout team quarterback? Is
- 1:28:13Speaker 9: it on special teams? We see him do a lot
- 1:28:15Speaker 9: of that. It's probably a little bit of all of it.
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: But that's the thing. They're giving him so many chances
- 1:28:21Speaker 9: to earn a roster spot that that tells me they
- 1:28:24Speaker 9: want him one yeah, yeah, And I don't you know,
- 1:28:26Speaker 9: he wasn't great as a wide receiver last week. He
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: looks about a guy who's never played wide receiver before
- 1:28:31Speaker 9: should look. But I think he's done enough and enough
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: spots that they can look at it and say, right,
- 1:28:37Speaker 9: he can plug in a couple spots as an emergency guy.
- 1:28:39Speaker 9: If we need him, well, keep him around and we'll
- 1:28:40Speaker 9: work with him as a wide receiver.
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: I mean, even look at what happened with Jacoby Meyers obviously,
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: like he literally turned to be a great wide receiver now,
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: so who knows, maybe Cunningham will follow in those footsteps
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: and be Max like Binky.
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: The other speak.
- 1:28:52Speaker 9: The other thing I'd say just in terms of, you know,
- 1:28:54Speaker 9: because people say, well, how long are they gonna wait
- 1:28:56Speaker 9: for him to develop?
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:28:57Speaker 9: How long we waiting them for him to develop as
- 1:28:59Speaker 9: a wide receiver. Julian Edelman didn't really start playing wide
- 1:29:01Speaker 9: receiver two year five. And I'm not saying Malie Cunningham
- 1:29:03Speaker 9: is going to be Julian Edelman, but it's an example
- 1:29:06Speaker 9: of they'll be patient with this guy that Julian Edelman
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: didn't start playing receiver here until his second contract, at
- 1:29:11Speaker 9: least not full time. He'd play here or there, but
- 1:29:13Speaker 9: he's playing defensive back. He was returning kicks again. It
- 1:29:15Speaker 9: was that same thing. It was, how can you justify
- 1:29:18Speaker 9: us keeping you on the roster while we work on
- 1:29:20Speaker 9: this when we build you up this skill set? And
- 1:29:22Speaker 9: they've given MALIEK. Cunningham, I think smartly they have. They've
- 1:29:25Speaker 9: given him a ton of chances to do that.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: How long did it take for Jacoby to kind of
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: well keep receiver?
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: That was a little different with Tough With Tom, Yeah,
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: trying to trust in, but he was you know, he
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: produced with every quarterback he played. He all got to
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: give him credit.
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: He'd played receiver for two year years in college, so
- 1:29:44Speaker 9: he was starting from like Malie Cunningham hasn't played receiver
- 1:29:47Speaker 9: I think since, like Pop Warner. So it's he's just starting.
- 1:29:51Speaker 9: Jacoby started from a much higher floor than these guys are.
- 1:29:54Speaker 9: But if you use the college thing, all right, So
- 1:29:55Speaker 9: we switched to quarterback as to wide receivers, A junior
- 1:29:58Speaker 9: junior senior call it one developmentally or here that's three
- 1:30:00Speaker 9: years so get you know it only got five Malie Cunningham, right,
- 1:30:04Speaker 9: call it right in the middle. Four Like that's totally reasonable.
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: Yeah, jump back to the phones. Mike down in Puerto Rico. Hey,
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: Mike cal Area, Hi.
- 1:30:12Speaker 13: Guys him, how all doing.
- 1:30:14Speaker 10: To go good?
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: Hey?
- 1:30:16Speaker 16: Hey, got a couple of things. I this is the
- 1:30:19Speaker 16: first time I've actually tried watching the show live while
- 1:30:23Speaker 16: you are recording it on YouTube. And I have never
- 1:30:27Speaker 16: seen anybody type with two fingers and long nails like
- 1:30:31Speaker 16: Tamara has done before. Like that is a steel set
- 1:30:34Speaker 16: onto itself.
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: Oh man, I've got her.
- 1:30:38Speaker 12: If you can.
- 1:30:43Speaker 16: That you all live off of this who do you
- 1:30:44Speaker 16: think it is the fastest typer in the room right now?
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: Oh, I mean, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lay
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: claim to that type. I don't know. Do you type fast?
- 1:30:52Speaker 9: I know, I don't know. I think I type kind
- 1:30:54Speaker 9: of fast. I typed loud. I get accused of being
- 1:30:56Speaker 9: a loud typer, and I'm not saying that that's wrong.
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: I'm talking on your phone on the phone, I'm definitely not.
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: I hate typing.
- 1:31:02Speaker 9: I can type fast on the phone, but it's not
- 1:31:03Speaker 9: gonna be correct.
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: Evan's fast. I mean, you guys, see how much Evan
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: tweets like. There's just like he's firing out like film
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: tweets like. So I would probably say Evan's probably the best.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: We have to take one of those we get a
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: type off the Yeah, there are tests out there. We
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: used to do them in school.
- 1:31:16Speaker 9: We'll see like your jumped over the brown jumped over
- 1:31:20Speaker 9: lazy brown dog or whatever.
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: Yeah, what else you got?
- 1:31:23Speaker 16: My You're you're a great addition to the team. I
- 1:31:26Speaker 16: actually have a game, but I got a couple of comments. First, Yeah, Bart,
- 1:31:29Speaker 16: you are great addition to the team. Very refreshing boys,
- 1:31:31Speaker 16: very optimistic, and I like how you have no fear
- 1:31:34Speaker 16: whatsoever in checking Evan every once in a while.
- 1:31:37Speaker 9: So why would I be afraid of Evan?
- 1:31:40Speaker 16: I don't know those polos and then those tip ups.
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: I mean, it can be very intimidating.
- 1:31:46Speaker 16: And is there any way we can get a camera
- 1:31:48Speaker 16: on Morrow every once in a while?
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: No, no, that that legally we can't show him. He's
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: not Okay, do you want to see me?
- 1:31:58Speaker 16: I got a couple of games. See if you got
- 1:32:00Speaker 16: as they're interested?
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: Yeah, sure, Okay.
- 1:32:02Speaker 16: At the end of the season, who is going to
- 1:32:04Speaker 16: have more receiving yards? Born in Parker or Juju and Douglas.
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: I'm gonna go born and born in Parker. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: I mean, I don't want to speak for anybody else,
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: but I think a few of us, I think we
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: talked about it, and I've been super impressed with Juju,
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: Like I mean, I think you really need to see
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: him in full contact, live game kind of thing. And
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: Douglas is what he is. I'm excited about him. I
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: just I don't know how much volume he's going to get, right,
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: but I think based on how Bourne's been playing, how
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: much he targets Parker all the time at those two.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna go Born in Parker too. I
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: really like the direction that Kendrick is trending in. Yeah,
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: I mean you can definitely tell. I don't know if
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: it is does have to do with his off season
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: being the best has ever been according to him and Bill,
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: but like he's been looking great and so I'm hoping
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: that he can remain available.
- 1:32:49Speaker 9: I talked about this with having on catch twenty two
- 1:32:52Speaker 9: because Evan was not high on Kendrick Borne coming into
- 1:32:54Speaker 9: the season. I was, I'm a big Kendrick Porne guy,
- 1:32:56Speaker 9: and you know, saying, well, this year, six jump for
- 1:32:58Speaker 9: him kind of came out of nowhere. I don't think so.
- 1:33:00Speaker 9: He was kind of buried in San Francisco. Yeah, he
- 1:33:02Speaker 9: had a really good first year. Here's not a thousand
- 1:33:05Speaker 9: yard pace before he got COVID in December, and then
- 1:33:08Speaker 9: last year it was never gonna happen. He was just
- 1:33:11Speaker 9: set up to fail. So this what we're seeing right
- 1:33:14Speaker 9: now is the jump I thought he would have taken
- 1:33:16Speaker 9: last year had his role gone unchanged. So I'm incredibly
- 1:33:19Speaker 9: high on Kendrick Bourne this year. I said earlier, I
- 1:33:21Speaker 9: think he's a thousand yard receiver this year. I think
- 1:33:23Speaker 9: he's a real chance to be a thousand yard receiver
- 1:33:24Speaker 9: this year if he's healthy.
- 1:33:27Speaker 16: Okay, I got three more more Stack and White or
- 1:33:32Speaker 16: jude On and Barmore.
- 1:33:34Speaker 9: I'm gonna go jude On and Barmore actually because of that. Yeah,
- 1:33:37Speaker 9: I think jude On and uh sorry, I think and
- 1:33:42Speaker 9: Judon finished close. But Keon White's not gonna play a
- 1:33:45Speaker 9: ton on passing down, so it's just not He probably could,
- 1:33:47Speaker 9: but that's not how they structure their defense.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: I like that pairing with Barmore, especially if he's healthy
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: the entire season. I think it could be just incredible
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: for that front.
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: Yeah, and it seems like he's kind of, you know,
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: flirting with some top reps like I just and love
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: we get out here, and you know, I get it
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: when they want to stop the run and it's going
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: to be Guy and Wise and Godshaw. But you've seen
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: a little bit of him playing that left defensive end spot,
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: so I'd love to get him out there on base downs.
- 1:34:11Speaker 10: All right.
- 1:34:12Speaker 16: Two more more I n t Gonztal than Dugger or
- 1:34:15Speaker 16: the Joneses.
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: Dugger is that all three Joneses.
- 1:34:22Speaker 9: I'd still go Gonzals and Dugger. Dougger's ballhawk consalt is
- 1:34:26Speaker 9: going to be the most targeted corner on the team.
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: That's a good point. That's a good point. Yeah, that's why.
- 1:34:32Speaker 16: And last one, unintentional f bombs? Is it going to
- 1:34:38Speaker 16: be dud.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: Me?
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: Probably? You know, today was going to be an unintentional
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: F bomb day because I thought I was going to
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: be coming back from Tennessee late last night, and that's
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: usually when I get the you know, F bomb under
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: my breath kind of thing. But uh, that that's a
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: good one. I think I'm gonna take that one, appreciate it. Uh,
- 1:34:58Speaker 5: just quick thing to bring up to Alex. You mentioned
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: this and we talked about Mac a little bit, but
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: Reese is saying that that they might keep Mac out
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: of the game tomorrow night to protect him.
- 1:35:08Speaker 9: Yes, the exact wording was, Jones took some hits last
- 1:35:11Speaker 9: week behind patchwork behind a Patrick offensive line. Strong consideration
- 1:35:16Speaker 9: has been given, has to be given to hold him
- 1:35:19Speaker 9: out of preseason finale.
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: Interesting if Paul always says Mike Mike Reese doesn't tweet
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: anything without a purpose or right exagivation, So, uh, something
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: something considered. I'd love to see Mac again. Do I
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: think we need to not really behind that offensive line,
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: I think, and I think you probably have to hold
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: Trump Brown out because he's like that, like you know,
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: to your point earlier about strange, like he's like if
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: Trent Brown were to go down, oh yeah, I mean,
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: things are a little bit tenuous right now on the
- 1:35:44Speaker 5: offensive line, but if he were to go out and
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: not have him on the left side, I think things
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: get even more more.
- 1:35:50Speaker 9: So we did this before and catch only two Trent
- 1:35:52Speaker 9: Brown top three most important player on the team?
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: Top two?
- 1:35:56Speaker 9: Is he top one?
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: I mean it's funny because I certainly could say top three,
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: but I also could say I don't know for sure
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: that he is completely going to be based on his
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: own merit. Like you know, it's like in theory, yes
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: he's the top guy, but he's gonna play like that guy.
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: I mean, I think we all well.
- 1:36:12Speaker 9: His level of play doesn't impact on important.
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: He is to the team.
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: In that case, he could be number one, like he
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: play as well, and he's a dominating left tackle, and
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: you know, you see some of what you saw in
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: that twenty eighteen season of him over there, then you're
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: probably right because I think, no matter what, we get
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: optimistic about with the Bill O'Brien offense. I think we
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: all acknowledge that like that can all be teared torn
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: down in one second by a defensive line like the
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: Philadelphia Eagles, who have, you know, a bunch of horses
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: that can get after the quarterback. So I just hope
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: that group can come together over the next two weeks.
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: I guess you know, we're not going to see him
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: when you tomorrow night. We're not going to see Strange.
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: Then they'll probably have two weeks. I mean you mentioned Alex,
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: like they've had this group of five kind of together
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: for like I don't know, ten days or so, once
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: they move Reef inside and then they started giving so
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: a chance at right tackle. So we'll see how it
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: comes together after. But I don't think anybody knows exactly
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: what we're going to see.
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: So if we don't see mac Jones at all, then
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: we could definitely see Cunningham again.
- 1:37:05Speaker 9: I would think, so, Yeah, I would think so.
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: I would think so at least to give Philly something
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: to think about. And you know, I think at the
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: very least it'd be great to just keep cunning him around.
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: I just I like that, look the Cunningham of it
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: all aside. I just think you have to acknowledge how
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: dreadful they've been against mobile quarterbacks, you know, especially last
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: year with the two examples being Lamar Jackson and justin
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: fields where you know, it just it looked like they
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: weren't prepared to handle those things, and they've been repping
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: it so much, even going back to OTAs when there
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: weren't even pads on there are, you know, every day
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: and practice it's a priority to understand what what the
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: read option looks like, and what the mobile quarterbacks look like,
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: and how to disrupt those plays. So I like how
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: they've been practicing it. Cunningham parts of the side, but
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: we'll see. Jullian Hurts is a whole different animal. Back
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: to the phones. Kevin out in Oregon. Hey, Kevin, how's
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: it going.
- 1:37:52Speaker 12: I'm actually doing pretty good. I had a couple of
- 1:37:55Speaker 12: the things that I wanted to ask you guys. My
- 1:37:58Speaker 12: number one thing I have heard you guys really talk
- 1:38:01Speaker 12: about the Jonathan Jones thing, Like, is that do you
- 1:38:06Speaker 12: guys have like an update on that?
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: No, But I mean I think you've heard from Reese
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: a couple of reports to that he's he's expected to
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: be back that it's not that it's not a big deal.
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: That this has been more precautionary than anything. So that's
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: kind of what we're going by. I think we're all
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: a little bit on blind faith with that, because if
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: Jonathan Jones wasn't out there, I do think it would
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: be a little bit scary. But I you know, I
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: think so far with Jonathan Jack Jones, Zales, I mean,
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: you got you know, two second year guys and and
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: a rookie back there, it's uh, you know, we know
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: what the Eagles receiving car looks like. That's not not
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: a deal.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: I do appreciate that they've kind of been putting bubble
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: wrap around certain people. I know it's frustrating practice wise
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: because you can't really see anything. But I think that,
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: you know, even with Trent Brown where he said where
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: it was reported that you know, it was a minor
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: injury that they were just kind of trying to take
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: it easy on hopefully the same with John Jones.
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: And Pop Douglas and like a couple of these guys
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: that come and they rehab and then they come back.
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:38:59Speaker 12: And not to change the subject, Samara, I do have
- 1:39:02Speaker 12: a quick one for you so I get blown up
- 1:39:04Speaker 12: because I live in Oregon and I'm one of the
- 1:39:06Speaker 12: few Patriots fans here. And that goes back to what
- 1:39:09Speaker 12: you guys were saying earlier, which is would they ever
- 1:39:12Speaker 12: build a stadium here for a teams? This state is
- 1:39:16Speaker 12: primarily women's sports, so like they would build a women's
- 1:39:20Speaker 12: soccer stadium before they would build an NFL. That's just
- 1:39:25Speaker 12: that's the real thing. And like the second thing with
- 1:39:28Speaker 12: Ezekiel Elliott, when you did your interview, everybody's blowing me
- 1:39:32Speaker 12: up telling me he's fat. When you were next to him,
- 1:39:36Speaker 12: did you feel like he was normal size on my
- 1:39:40Speaker 12: normal size?
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: Well, I will preface this by saying I was standing
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: on a box in that video, so I would say,
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: like he is. Like my first impressions of him, he's
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: a pretty big back and not in es sense of
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: like a fat one, but more kind of like stocky.
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: Yeah, and tall.
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: He's a thick guy. And I mean, honestly, you've seen
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: hit when he's out there blocking, So I think it's
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: really beneficial for him to have that, and I think
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: it doesn't really slow him down at all.
- 1:40:05Speaker 9: I do think he was wearing two sweat shags. Yeah,
- 1:40:07Speaker 9: So that that that'll make him look a little bulkier.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, like Judun's out there with a huge sweatshirt
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: on every day.
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: Like i'd say to Kevin, he moved, he's moving pretty good.
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: He doesn't look like he's carrying. Yeah, I haven't seen
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: the six pack that you know, it's tucked up and
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: everything like he used to have.
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: Do you think he'll do that like Tuckan?
- 1:40:24Speaker 12: You want one third thing? To Christian Gonzalez. I've seen
- 1:40:28Speaker 12: him get burned three times. He plays really soft in
- 1:40:32Speaker 12: the zone. How do you guys feel about Christian Gonzalez
- 1:40:36Speaker 12: because he's our first round pick, but he almost seems
- 1:40:40Speaker 12: like he's just trying to feel out where he sits,
- 1:40:43Speaker 12: and it's like he's playing really soft on players instead
- 1:40:46Speaker 12: of just going full like full on contact. Am I
- 1:40:50Speaker 12: am I the only one missing that?
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: Or good outs you want to jump on? I got
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: a lot of feelings on thanks. Kevin will answer that
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: one for sure.
- 1:40:58Speaker 9: He's definitely better in man than zone at this point.
- 1:41:00Speaker 9: I mean it's like man coverage. I think he's been
- 1:41:02Speaker 9: very good zone. He's still sort of learning his roles
- 1:41:04Speaker 9: in assignments, but he shouldn't be playing a lot of zone.
- 1:41:07Speaker 9: I hope he doesn't end up playing a lot of
- 1:41:09Speaker 9: his own, So that'll come. That'll come in time. That's
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: just mastering the playbook and getting chemistry down with the
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: other guys in the secondary. But take your time with that.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: I hit.
- 1:41:19Speaker 9: The plan for him should be to go back to
- 1:41:21Speaker 9: those old Stefan Gilmour Durell reeve is to keep to
- 1:41:23Speaker 9: leave defenses where it's you and that guy. You could
- 1:41:26Speaker 9: take it over here and we're gonna play at ten
- 1:41:28Speaker 9: on ten over here. That should be what he's doing
- 1:41:30Speaker 9: in Zone's not a part of that.
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think and even coming
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: in the season, I just said and I think everything
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: I kind of felt coming in was true. This is
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: a twenty one year old kid. He's very young, and
- 1:41:39Speaker 5: he's super athletic. So I think his athleticism has bought
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: him time. And because I mean, I even think on
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: the PI call he got, you know, he kind of
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: sat and then he had enough athleticism, which I just
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: thought was remarkable to recover. Now he committed the penalty
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: and you know it might have been a little bit
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: of a ticky tacky call. That's fine, but I think
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: that's what you see a lot with these guys when
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: they're used to just like just follow the guy, play man.
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: It's not horrible when you get into zone and match
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: coverage and there's all kinds of rules by how the
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: routes disperse five yards off the line of scrimmage. Those
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: are mental parts of the pro game that he's going
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: to have to learn. So I've just preached a little
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: bit of patience. I know he's you know, first round pick,
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: seventeenth overall, but I think that he has all the
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: tools and just that athleticism. It gives him a little
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: bit of time to play with stuff. Like a lot
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: of guys they squad on that route, they're getting burned,
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: like there's no way they have the athleticism to make
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: up and get back into phase into the coverage. So
- 1:42:28Speaker 5: but but you know, I hear like I thought we
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: saw good progress in that game.
- 1:42:30Speaker 10: Though.
- 1:42:30Speaker 5: We saw a nice tackle on a screen on third
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: down to get off the field. We saw a little
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: bit of physicality on the sidelines, not you know, without
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: getting a penalty. So I think every time he's kind
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: of taken the field DC some room for improved. Absolutely,
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: but I think he's got all the tools, and I
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: think it's it's gonna progress. There's gonna be times he's
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: gonna get smoked this year, probably by the aj Browns
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: of the world. It is what it is. But take
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: some of those lumps. Even Stefan Gilmore. You brought him
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: on Ballox, similar kind of thing. I thought when he
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: first got here, when it's like, oh man, he doesn't
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: know what he's doing in zone, they figured it out.
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: You know, they get they get a feel for how
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: these how their defense works as one, and once they
- 1:43:05Speaker 5: get that down that they're great. He's twenty one years old,
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: so I mean, you're talking guy. He's gonna be twenty five,
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: twenty six at the end of his first contract. He's
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: got a long career ahead of.
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: What do you think between like him and like Sauce Gardner.
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: I mean, I still think Sauce Gardner was the better
- 1:43:16Speaker 5: player coming out of I think Sauce, I don't know
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: their exact ages. You know, he's just a little more
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: physical dude. I mean, I think that's that's what he is.
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: But you know it's just look, we've been watching the
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: Patriots defense forever. They got plenty of physical dudes. Yeah,
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: I want athleticism, and that's like what I think this
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: you know, size too, you know, it doesn't necessarily have
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: to be this, you know, I think when they draft
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: to like Juwan Williams, like we're looking for a big
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: corner who can maybe match up with the bigger receivers,
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: he doesn't have to be that. I just love having
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: a guy with his movement skills in the secondary. I
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: think it's going to make a big difference.
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: Okay. I love that we're talking about this room because
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: now I have questions. I have not looked at either
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: one of you guys fifty three man roster projections, But
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: where'd you guys have Sean Wade.
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: I think he's on the I mean I haven't done
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: a fifty three, but I think he's right on the
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: cusp right now. And I mean I think, like, I
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: love Bolden. I loved Isaiah Bolden. You know, I'm glad
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: to hear that he's doing okay, hopefully he's out of
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: concussion protocol. I think that's where you're looking for, like
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: one of those extra corners. And I just when I
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: look at Bolden, I'm like, this guy just looks physically
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: like a stud, and I want him on the field
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: in some capacity, and even speed too, even though I
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: haven't really steam much out of speed at cornerback. But
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: I think if Bolden's gonna be out for a while,
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: it might open the door for Wade, who I thought
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: has had a pretty good camp, but I just have
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: never been consistently impressed by him.
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: I had him off. I have just the main five corners,
- 1:44:30Speaker 9: the three Joneses, Gonzalez, and Miles Bryant. I think they
- 1:44:33Speaker 9: could get Sean Wade to the practice squad of mere speed,
- 1:44:35Speaker 9: Isaiah Bolden, all of them. And the thing about Sean Wade,
- 1:44:38Speaker 9: as good as he's looked, they don't need another slot corner,
- 1:44:40Speaker 9: and Sean Wade's really he's not an outside guy. He's
- 1:44:43Speaker 9: a pure slot corner. They've experimented with that, but he's
- 1:44:45Speaker 9: a slot corner. So, you know, I thought Bolden of
- 1:44:48Speaker 9: those three, had the best chance to make the team
- 1:44:50Speaker 9: because he gives them something they need, a big outside corner.
- 1:44:54Speaker 9: We'll see if he's ready for the season. Obviously, it
- 1:44:56Speaker 9: sounds like he's okay, like he's just dealing, which obviously
- 1:44:59Speaker 9: is you know, okay, he's dealing with the concussion. But
- 1:45:02Speaker 9: from where we were Saturday Night to where we are now,
- 1:45:05Speaker 9: I would say it's all very encouraging, but you know,
- 1:45:07Speaker 9: we'll see if he's ready for the regular season or
- 1:45:09Speaker 9: not what happens with that. I thought he had the
- 1:45:10Speaker 9: best chance, but if he's not in the picture, a
- 1:45:13Speaker 9: mere speed is still very raw. If they keep him,
- 1:45:15Speaker 9: it's to play special teams. I don't think it's to
- 1:45:17Speaker 9: play corner. And again, Sean Widge is if they get
- 1:45:19Speaker 9: to a point where they need a slot corner, he's
- 1:45:21Speaker 9: the guy. But it's all slot corners right now. Jonathan
- 1:45:25Speaker 9: Jones can play both Marcus Jones, they have.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: Him playing both.
- 1:45:29Speaker 9: I don't love him playing on the battles outside of
- 1:45:31Speaker 9: certain matchups, but he can do that. So it might
- 1:45:34Speaker 9: be a thing if you end up in a spot
- 1:45:35Speaker 9: where you have to have Jonathan Jones and Marcus Jones
- 1:45:37Speaker 9: both playing on the boundary because you're down Christian Zaliz
- 1:45:40Speaker 9: and you're down Jack Jones. That's where Sean Wade comes in.
- 1:45:43Speaker 9: But it even Miles Bryant told play in the slot
- 1:45:45Speaker 9: as well. He's even gotten some looks on the outside.
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: So I think Briddy Randall has been okay the last
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: week or so. I mean I thought he got really
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: picked on bad against it. He had a rough start
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: to camp, but I mean, look, he's just been okay,
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: you know. I mean it's he's made a couple of
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: plays in the game and a nice past defense was
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: sticking with the guy, so you know, you never know.
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: But it's always interesting how it's gonna play out with
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: the practice squad and what they need and where they
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: need depth. And I think that that's, you know, an
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: interesting position. But I think generally I agree with Alex.
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: Is it gonna be that hard to get those guys
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: through to the practice squad? Probably not, But but I
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: just I continue to be intrigued by Bolden. Unfortunately. I
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: don't know about you guys, but like, well, when I
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: was watching the game, I had him on the down
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: list before he got hurt, like he was getting picked on.
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: He was, you know, allowing some catches and you know,
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: but I think overall he's show he's shown some promise,
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: so I'm still intrigued by him.
- 1:46:29Speaker 9: Yeah, he's a guy. I don't know that you're gonna
- 1:46:30Speaker 9: come out a week one and put him on AJ Brown,
- 1:46:32Speaker 9: But just the raw tools he showed, it was like,
- 1:46:36Speaker 9: keep this guy here. And you know, maybe late in
- 1:46:38Speaker 9: the season he becomes a guy that you can start
- 1:46:40Speaker 9: factoring in because I didn't think he was that far away.
- 1:46:42Speaker 9: He wasn't ready, but he wasn't that far away. He's
- 1:46:44Speaker 9: not that far away. Shouldn't say that in the past tense, like,
- 1:46:46Speaker 9: I still think they could do that. But the other
- 1:46:48Speaker 9: wild card here, and it's tough to say, do are
- 1:46:52Speaker 9: they flexible with moving Jalen Mills back to corner or
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: is he at safety period? Full stop?
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: Because it's good there.
- 1:46:58Speaker 9: I love he's I think think he's been their best
- 1:47:00Speaker 9: player in the preseason.
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: I do.
- 1:47:02Speaker 9: He's so natural. He should have been in that role
- 1:47:04Speaker 9: this whole time when they signed him two years ago.
- 1:47:06Speaker 9: And granted, right, Kyle Dugger hadn't really broken out yet,
- 1:47:10Speaker 9: so we didn't know. They looked a little thinner at
- 1:47:12Speaker 9: safety than they were. But I was like, oh, he's good,
- 1:47:14Speaker 9: Patrick Chung, here we go and and he played corner.
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: He was good.
- 1:47:17Speaker 9: He had some ups and downs, he was good, but
- 1:47:20Speaker 9: this is this is his role, this is who he
- 1:47:21Speaker 9: is as a player. I love him in that spot.
- 1:47:23Speaker 9: But if you're facing a team that has a bunch
- 1:47:25Speaker 9: of big receivers late in the year and your down corners.
- 1:47:28Speaker 9: I would rather than move him to the boundary than
- 1:47:30Speaker 9: see five foot eight Marcus Jones struggle with that again.
- 1:47:33Speaker 9: So but they get they get hesitant about the stuff.
- 1:47:36Speaker 9: Sometimes Mike go and Win, who we were ninety minutes
- 1:47:39Speaker 9: away from James Farrence starting at left tackle last year
- 1:47:43Speaker 9: against Von Miller, and they would still wouldn't move Mike
- 1:47:46Speaker 9: Go and Win who had to tackle. So they are
- 1:47:47Speaker 9: stubborn about this. I don't know if this is going
- 1:47:49Speaker 9: to be one of the cases where they're stubborn, but
- 1:47:51Speaker 9: if it is, it definitely opens the door as if
- 1:47:54Speaker 9: they are open playing mccorner, which we really haven't seen
- 1:47:57Speaker 9: at all in camp. Then you start talking about guys
- 1:47:59Speaker 9: like Isaiah Bolden in a mere speed.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: I do think it's interesting, like when Christian Gonzalez was drafted,
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: like Jalen Mills's tweet was, y'all I play safety right, right?
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: Like I just thought that was like because I think
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: everyone was probably you know, messaging him like, oh my god,
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: like who's gonna be the odd man out? And that's
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: why he tweeted, y'all know, I play safety right And
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: I think he's done a really great job there he has.
- 1:48:18Speaker 5: He's been fine. I mean he's you know, they've been active,
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: they've been blitzing him. I mean he you know, it's
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: just he's so much more involved, and you know it's
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: almost like him and Borne have kind of like, yeah,
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: been been safe from the day a little bit. But
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: along those lines, I've got a couple, you know, just
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: a couple. I don't want to call them awards, but
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: you know, just curious some of these for for you
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: guys out of training camp, since we're just wrapping it up.
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: Biggest surprise?
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Who was your biggest surprise?
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: What was the biggest surprise of training camp for you?
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: Over the last month or so practices like.
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: A diamond in the rough and like you're.
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: Talking, anything that that surprised you about this team, that
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: that you didn't that you maybe didn't quite expect, because
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: I mean, I'll give you the opposite. What I wasn't
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: surprised about was that they didn't have enough offensive.
- 1:48:56Speaker 9: Yeah he saw coming a mile away. That might be
- 1:48:59Speaker 9: my biggest That doesn't even feel like a fair answer.
- 1:49:01Speaker 9: It should have to be besides that biggest surprise, I
- 1:49:05Speaker 9: think I would go between one how seamless the secondaries looked.
- 1:49:09Speaker 9: I knew they had talent there, but the adjustment in
- 1:49:13Speaker 9: a post Evan mccordy era, I feel like has gone
- 1:49:15Speaker 9: very well. And guys that told us that they were
- 1:49:18Speaker 9: always gonna tell us that. I don't think it's just
- 1:49:20Speaker 9: them saying it. I think it's real. I think that
- 1:49:22Speaker 9: they have found a new format in terms of communication,
- 1:49:25Speaker 9: in terms of alignment that works. The other one that
- 1:49:28Speaker 9: is kind of a half answer, both Kayshawn Booty and
- 1:49:31Speaker 9: ter Mario Douglass potentially being guys like I thought maybe
- 1:49:34Speaker 9: we'd get one. Like I said earlier, I saw Douglas
- 1:49:38Speaker 9: at the Shrine ball. I thought he had some upside.
- 1:49:39Speaker 9: I thought Booty had some upside. But like it was like,
- 1:49:42Speaker 9: all right, you took a fifty to fifty shot on
- 1:49:44Speaker 9: two guys, so mathematically you should get one to have
- 1:49:47Speaker 9: both of them be in the position they're in.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I'm gonna.
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: I'm gonna go born just because I think that coming
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: off a season like he had last year, whether it
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: be off the field stuff, whether it be you know,
- 1:49:59Speaker 3: not being on the field, whatever it is, some people
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: could have taken that season and just completely like given up.
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: But I think that he kind of like used it
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: as like motivation for this year, and I think that
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: he's off to a great start, especially after stating Juju,
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: a lot of people were tweeting like WARN's out of here,
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: like he's completely out of the picture. And I think
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: that he's worked really hard to make sure that he's
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: still in the mix. And now hopefully that continues to
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: trend in that direction.
- 1:50:24Speaker 9: I would I would almost add to that. And I'll
- 1:50:26Speaker 9: give you another one that I wasn't surprised by. I
- 1:50:29Speaker 9: wasn't super shocked. Taekwon Thornton ended up being a non
- 1:50:31Speaker 9: factor after he sat out the spring, and it was like, oh,
- 1:50:34Speaker 9: it's a soft tissue thing. I was kind of like,
- 1:50:35Speaker 9: all right, this is not the start he needed. And
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: we've seen it with so many wide receivers here before.
- 1:50:42Speaker 9: If you fall behind early, it is so hard to
- 1:50:44Speaker 9: catch up. And when he was kind of struggling those
- 1:50:47Speaker 9: first few days, it's just based off what we saw
- 1:50:50Speaker 9: in the spring, it almost felt like this it was
- 1:50:53Speaker 9: bound to happen.
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, And I think the best ability is availability.
- 1:50:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: I think with time Montgomery and Taekwon Thornton, both of them,
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: I think that's going to be their biggest weakness is
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: their availability, Like both of them right now, it's like,
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: what's happening?
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's hard just with his frame because it's
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: you know, upper body injuries that seemed to be recurring,
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: and you know a lot of times when he's forced
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: into contact it's just you know, he does he can't
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: go up and out muscle guys for the ball, catch point,
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: any of that stuff. I don't know, he's I mean,
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: it's gonna be an ind season thing now with him,
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: So we'll see how it goes. Uh, let's go one
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: more to the phones. Cody out in Hawaii. Hey, Cody,
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: how you doing?
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: Man?
- 1:51:27Speaker 12: Hey, how's it going?
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: Guys?
- 1:51:30Speaker 20: Not a long time listener, but listening to you guys
- 1:51:33Speaker 20: most recently and now I can't get enough of it.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: So nice.
- 1:51:36Speaker 20: Thank you guys for making this podcast.
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: Oh thank you.
- 1:51:39Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:51:40Speaker 20: My question was what do you guys think about the
- 1:51:43Speaker 20: absence of Juan Bedley in this past preseason game. I
- 1:51:47Speaker 20: do think that had a major factor in why we
- 1:51:50Speaker 20: couldn't stop the run in the first half.
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: Uh yeah, I mean we talked a little bit about this.
- 1:51:57Speaker 5: Thanks Cody. Well, I don't know, Alex, how you said.
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: We got into the show on Tuesday and we were
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: kind of talking about the run defense, and I was
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: and I said something like, you know, I got one
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: guy in my crosshairs, and then Paul was kind of like,
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: you know, there's one guy that that's really bugging me.
- 1:52:08Speaker 5: And then Evan's like, yeah, there's one guy, and I'm like,
- 1:52:10Speaker 5: let's all say it at once. Mac Wilson. Look, I
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: think it's a couple of things. I think, first of all,
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: just Devon Gotshaw and are they excited to go into
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: Green Bay week two of the preseason and give it
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: there all and run Probably not, like you know, like
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: like I heard Teddy j On on your show waxing
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: about that, and I'm like, ted if I had come
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: up to as a reporter in two thousand and four
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: and said, Hey, what's up with the run defense week
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: to a preseason, you would have like probably been like
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: laugh me off and been like, don't worry about it.
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: We got this, So I'm not worried about that. I
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: do think Bentley's a big part of it, and I
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: and I also just think that that mac Wilson against
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: the run is ineffective. As an ineffective player, and he
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: can't really play rundowns.
- 1:52:47Speaker 9: It's not his game. It's not his game. He's here
- 1:52:49Speaker 9: to back up Marte Mapu.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: That is what I think.
- 1:52:51Speaker 9: That's that's what we said, like in that role, right, Look,
- 1:52:55Speaker 9: not having Bentley hurts. But at the same time, you
- 1:52:58Speaker 9: saw Devon getting moved, you saw Carl Davis getting moved,
- 1:53:02Speaker 9: and Jewan Bentley standing behind them. Shouldn't make any difference
- 1:53:05Speaker 9: in them getting moved or not. This is a good
- 1:53:08Speaker 9: defense against the run. Last year they ranked fourth in
- 1:53:10Speaker 9: the league and opposing yards for carry. They were especially
- 1:53:12Speaker 9: good against you know, traditional run plays, taking out some
- 1:53:14Speaker 9: of that quarterback stuff. So and they brought just about
- 1:53:17Speaker 9: everybody back, and Devin mccordy wasn't really a run game player.
- 1:53:20Speaker 9: So I'm not gonna sit here and say, oh they're screwed.
- 1:53:22Speaker 9: Here we go whole season not stopping a run. But
- 1:53:24Speaker 9: like I would like to see them come out Friday
- 1:53:26Speaker 9: night and kind of put the just just put it
- 1:53:28Speaker 9: to bed. Yeah, just put on tape.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: Today.
- 1:53:30Speaker 9: It was a rough game and that's what it was,
- 1:53:32Speaker 9: and we're back.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: I'm wondering if like that will even be a focus
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: on Friday. I'm wondering like, are we gonna see Dio,
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: Like are they gonna play him?
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: Do you think? I don't know, I don't know what
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: the Titans.
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: Are or they're just gonna run the ball and be like, oh,
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: let's not put.
- 1:53:43Speaker 9: It well if they run the ball Stark, Yeah, I mean.
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: We didn't have to.
- 1:53:47Speaker 9: There's a good test.
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I mean it was hard not to
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: like take a little read, a little bit into it
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: when they signed McCall briefly, you know, like, oh, yeah,
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: it's not an overaction to you know, but I think
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: I don't know. I'm still okay with Carl Davis. I
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: think he's fine for that role. And you got a
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: big nose tackle that's a you know, big mean dude.
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: So I don't know, I'm not I'm not too concerned
- 1:54:05Speaker 5: about that. But I guess just one more question for
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: you guys, like, like, what is your biggest concern about
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: this team going into this season right.
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: Off? Because it's like it's like we really can't expect
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: that much out of mac if he has no time
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: to throw the ball, because then what's are we just
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: gonna run the ball every play because he can't throw it? Like,
- 1:54:25Speaker 3: is this gonna look like Georgia Tech's offense.
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: But what are we gonna do If you can't get
- 1:54:29Speaker 9: a block?
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: None of it matters.
- 1:54:30Speaker 9: That's just the reality of it. And their starting group
- 1:54:34Speaker 9: is fine. The depth significantly drops off after their top four.
- 1:54:38Speaker 9: I've said this since, uh since free agency when they
- 1:54:41Speaker 9: didn't sign one of those top tackles. If anything undoes
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: this offense this year, it's not gonna be the coaching.
- 1:54:47Speaker 9: That excuse is gone. It's not gonna be the quarterback.
- 1:54:49Speaker 9: I know people want to hate on Mac. Mac will
- 1:54:51Speaker 9: be fine. I don't know how much more than fine
- 1:54:53Speaker 9: he'll be, but he'll at least be fine. The wide receiver,
- 1:54:55Speaker 9: same thing. They're good enough. They're not you know, they're
- 1:54:58Speaker 9: not world beaters. This isn't the Bengals, but they're fine
- 1:55:00Speaker 9: that neutral offense. If anything undoes this offense, it's the
- 1:55:04Speaker 9: offensive line and specifically the tackles because they the the
- 1:55:08Speaker 9: level of NFL talent.
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: There is worry, especially the edges in the AFC East
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: or just yeah.
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: I mean I would have loved to get and not
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: just because he's a Notre Dame guy, but Mike McGlinchey
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: he was available.
- 1:55:18Speaker 9: Yeah, that that that was one of my guys. That
- 1:55:20Speaker 9: was one of my guys.
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: He would have been expensive, but I think per our
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: conversation earlier, like that's not any quate offensive lineman, Like
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: that's like a good offense.
- 1:55:29Speaker 9: And then that's a guy not just a good offensive lineman,
- 1:55:31Speaker 9: a guy that fit the scheme.
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: Well, he's great.
- 1:55:35Speaker 9: Joe Alt. Next year we can talk about Joalt. No
- 1:55:41Speaker 9: geez Notre Dame. He's a first round tackle from Notre Dame.
- 1:55:44Speaker 9: We will talk plenty of about write.
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: A great picture of myself next to Mike McGlinchey when
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: he was at Notre Dame, Like I like an ant Is.
- 1:55:53Speaker 9: It like the Mike Grease Trent Brown picture? Oh yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 1:55:55Speaker 9: that's one of my favorite pictures.
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: That might have been standing on a box and it didn't.
- 1:55:59Speaker 5: The Giant Human We got like four minutes left, but Alex,
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: I got ask you a little bit about Bruce Springsteen.
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: He's coming here to let you're going to two shows.
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: I'm going I took a little time I wrote down
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: and I'm not going to say these are the all
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: time best Bruce songs, but I just put Deuce's like
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: personal favorite that they have some meaning to me, So
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: I'll let you think of yours as I rattle off
- 1:56:16Speaker 5: my my six that I have here. But these are
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: just my favorites to marry Bruce Springsteen fans, I.
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: Am not on this contra.
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: You know some of them though, right.
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: I heard the ones in practice that that was.
- 1:56:26Speaker 9: That was freaky because it was Bruce Springsteen and Chris Stapleton,
- 1:56:29Speaker 9: which are the two concerts I'm going to this summer,
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: and I like, I tweeted out yesterday and people were like,
- 1:56:35Speaker 9: you gotta be kidding.
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: I feel like Bruce for him, you said, it sounds
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: like Swifty for everybody else.
- 1:56:41Speaker 9: So there is this, really Bruce, there is this really
- 1:56:45Speaker 9: good thing that was written like seven or eight months ago.
- 1:56:49Speaker 9: I forget who wrote it, but basically, like the the
- 1:56:52Speaker 9: way fans react to the artist that Taylor Swift is
- 1:56:55Speaker 9: the next generations Bruce Springsteen within like the storytelling and
- 1:56:59Speaker 9: the way the songs are perceived and the way the
- 1:57:01Speaker 9: fans are is very interesting to read and a lot
- 1:57:04Speaker 9: of I'm not a huge Sailor Swift fan, like I
- 1:57:06Speaker 9: appreciate her, but like there is a lot of overlap
- 1:57:08Speaker 9: in the fans and it is kind of there is
- 1:57:10Speaker 9: a lot of truth to it, all right.
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: I drove to New Jersey. I saw Bruce Springsteen in
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: New Jersey.
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: That's what you see.
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: That's where you gotta see.
- 1:57:15Speaker 9: Now we're like you have in the past, no I write.
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: I mean it was in the year nineteen ninety nine.
- 1:57:20Speaker 9: Okay. Did you see him at at like Metaal Layers
- 1:57:23Speaker 9: at the.
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: Stone Continental Airlines Arena. Okay, he goes with the Devils
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: the Devil's play. Yeah, But these are my songs I'm
- 1:57:29Speaker 5: gonna throw out there, going from from kind of kind
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: of lowest to highest. But Tunnel of Love's first one
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: had the tape I Forget, which the album MAT's off of.
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: But Tunnel of Love used to listen to that as
- 1:57:38Speaker 5: a kid really liked it my hometown. I mean, that's
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: a classic love it. I'm going down Special One College
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: used to play at parties a lot love. I'm going
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: down Atlantic City and I gotta go with the live
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: version live her favorite. Yeah, live version is great for me.
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: That song was the song I was like kind of
- 1:57:55Speaker 5: into that live album when I was moving to California.
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: So it's like one of those albums like just always
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: And then the top two Thundero, Born to Run, the
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: two classics. Everybody loves them, but those songs.
- 1:58:05Speaker 4: I just feel like, are You're not going No, I don't.
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: Love them that much. I mean it's I've seen them.
- 1:58:10Speaker 5: I don't know. I got stuff to do, I would say.
- 1:58:13Speaker 9: I mean because I I like, I got into Bruce
- 1:58:15Speaker 9: because my dad's a big Bruce fan. So that's just
- 1:58:17Speaker 9: like part of the reason I enjoyed so much as
- 1:58:18Speaker 9: I grew up listening to it a lot with him.
- 1:58:21Speaker 9: Jungle Lands the song that got me into Bruce because
- 1:58:24Speaker 9: I played saxophone in middle school and it was like
- 1:58:27Speaker 9: dipped to my dad's Oh the Big Man, and you know,
- 1:58:28Speaker 9: listen to that that uh Clarence yea, that that chorus,
- 1:58:31Speaker 9: So that one's up there, you know, Born to Run
- 1:58:34Speaker 9: in thunder Road as well, or.
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: Up there for me.
- 1:58:38Speaker 9: Some deeper cut songs, I don't know if they're deep cuts,
- 1:58:41Speaker 9: but like more so, I I really like Darkness on
- 1:58:43Speaker 9: the Edge of Town. Yeah, I really like growing up.
- 1:58:50Speaker 5: I think that they said sit down and I stood
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: up right.
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: That's it.
- 1:58:54Speaker 9: That's a fun I remember that came on Shuffle when
- 1:58:58Speaker 9: I was like leaving my last call class and that.
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: Hit why that kind of deep like on shuffle leading.
- 1:59:04Speaker 9: Because because the song is about like reluxant, reluctance to
- 1:59:07Speaker 9: become an adult. So it's just like in that moment
- 1:59:10Speaker 9: it was I was like, this is kind of ridiculous
- 1:59:12Speaker 9: that this song just came on.
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: You got to have that, though, Smara. That's like one
- 1:59:15Speaker 5: of my favorite things is like you hear a song
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: and and sometimes it's a song you've heard a hundred times,
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: but you hear it in a new way at like
- 1:59:22Speaker 5: at the right point in your life, and it just
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: hits different for you. Yeah, like when comes on at
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: the right moment, Yeah, it's gonna be like Anna like
- 1:59:29Speaker 5: acoustic and her Sandman version. It's like, I have a
- 1:59:32Speaker 5: new perspective now.
- 1:59:34Speaker 3: Remix Also your homework, Alex, I need a video like
- 1:59:37Speaker 3: that one that has been posted of Mike Reese when
- 1:59:40Speaker 3: he was at Wasn't he at a concert?
- 1:59:41Speaker 9: Oh yeah? It's yeah, but that was like a heavy
- 1:59:44Speaker 9: metal concert. That's completely different. I'm not gonna be that
- 1:59:48Speaker 9: energetic time. I'm just gonna be relaxed. And then I
- 1:59:51Speaker 9: think that, uh, why am I blanking on the name
- 1:59:54Speaker 9: of the song the Blinded by the Light? Blinded By
- 1:59:56Speaker 9: The Light is one of the like just a fun
- 1:59:58Speaker 9: sing along song. So I like when he cover stuff too.
- 2:00:01Speaker 5: I have because of the Night.
- 2:00:02Speaker 9: That's because the Knight's a good one. Adam Rae's the
- 2:00:05Speaker 9: King raised. My joke is always just I like songs
- 2:00:09Speaker 9: about old cars and girls whose names ended why, and
- 2:00:12Speaker 9: that's that's my catalog. But he does some good covers too,
- 2:00:16Speaker 9: like Trapped is good. His version of Trapped is good.
- 2:00:18Speaker 9: And I would say, as somebody who's also a huge
- 2:00:19Speaker 9: fan of Goodfellas, he has a live cover of and
- 2:00:23Speaker 9: Then She Kissed Me, which is the song when they're
- 2:00:25Speaker 9: going through the back entrance to the restaurant and Goodfellas,
- 2:00:28Speaker 9: which is just like for me, a neat little crossover
- 2:00:30Speaker 9: because one of my favorite movies, one of my favorite artists.
- 2:00:33Speaker 9: That's like the song from that movie That or Cream.
- 2:00:36Speaker 5: But yeah, there you have it, guys. That's gonna do
- 2:00:39Speaker 5: it for this very special edition Patriots un Filter, be
