- 0:02Happy Veterans Day.
- 0:04Thank you to all those who have served.
- 0:06We're going live now.
- 0:20I love the chase and the hunt.
- 0:21And I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:23I always take what I want.
- 0:24And I always give it one hundred.
- 0:26Don't need a bank.
- 0:26No, I'm funded.
- 0:27Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:29I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:30Don't take for granted.
- 0:31Stay humble.
- 0:32Now wake up.
- 0:33It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:35Look in the mirror.
- 0:36If he is no friend to me.
- 0:39What is going on, everybody?
- 0:41It's lunchtime.
- 0:43Happy Veterans Day.
- 0:45I want to thank everybody who has or
- 0:47is serving in the service for us in
- 0:50this country.
- 0:51I appreciate you so much.
- 0:54Lately, because I'm older,
- 0:56my daughter has moved away.
- 0:58There's not as much going on.
- 1:00We've been looking for ways to kind of
- 1:03give back.
- 1:04And I found a site where I can
- 1:07write letters,
- 1:08cards and stuff to people in the service.
- 1:12And I've been doing that for the last
- 1:13couple of months, just in my free time,
- 1:16taking a couple of minutes to send
- 1:19birthday cards and holiday cards.
- 1:24We've even sent care packages overseas to
- 1:28those deployed.
- 1:30It's been a way that we can give
- 1:31back.
- 1:33I really do appreciate everybody who has
- 1:35served.
- 1:35It was a way that I found that
- 1:37was easy for my wife and I to
- 1:40kind of get involved a little bit.
- 1:42So that's been really awesome.
- 1:46And
- 1:49just a way to kind of fill my
- 1:50day a little more productively, I guess.
- 1:53Um, so yeah, fun stuff.
- 1:59I heard Siobhan say that I was going
- 2:01to talk about Tyson Bajan being on his
- 2:03show as he was going off the air
- 2:06today.
- 2:08It's hard for me not to talk about
- 2:10Tyson Bajan because I am such a big
- 2:13Chicago Bears fan.
- 2:15And when he's on,
- 2:18you learn so much about what kind of
- 2:20goes on behind the scenes that
- 2:23It's very much like people that dive into
- 2:27Savant's behind-the-scenes work, right?
- 2:29They want to see what's going on behind
- 2:30the scenes at the games,
- 2:31understand why they do it,
- 2:33understand where the athlete's mindset is,
- 2:35all those kinds of things.
- 2:37And when Tyson comes on there,
- 2:39he gives us a peek into things that
- 2:41I've never,
- 2:42ever seen done by the NFL itself.
- 2:46Because Tyson is so frank and so honest
- 2:49about what he talks about.
- 2:52The whole mental health aspect that he was
- 2:56talking about today,
- 2:57where when they show up,
- 2:58you're so overwhelmed and you are met in
- 3:02your rookie year by mental health experts
- 3:05saying, hey, these are the things we see.
- 3:07We know you're going to be overwhelmed.
- 3:09We're here to help.
- 3:11That stuff just blows my mind.
- 3:15A couple of years ago,
- 3:15I had James Townsend on who was signed
- 3:19by the Bears and
- 3:22as well and he ended up walking away
- 3:24from the nfl because um of stresses that
- 3:29were going on in his life and i'm
- 3:31just wondering i'd love to get hit talk
- 3:33to him again about maybe those programs
- 3:36weren't in place back then um
- 3:40that they are now.
- 3:42And, uh,
- 3:43so those are the things that I just,
- 3:44I love to hear from Tyson.
- 3:47Um, I just love to,
- 3:49cause that is my favorite team in the
- 3:50world of all, um,
- 3:54of all sports and to get a peek
- 3:56in behind the curtain of that team.
- 3:59Uh,
- 4:00it's just one of my favorite things to
- 4:01watch.
- 4:02Uh, so yeah, I was,
- 4:04I was tuned in as soon as he
- 4:06came on today, uh,
- 4:08and watch the whole thing.
- 4:09And, uh,
- 4:09Really, really enjoyed it.
- 4:13And, uh, Jay Birch says, yeah,
- 4:14especially with the recent death of the
- 4:16Cowboys player.
- 4:17Yeah.
- 4:18The details of that are wild.
- 4:20Um, that he was in a police chase,
- 4:23uh, and then took his own life.
- 4:25Um, and he's so young, like what,
- 4:30you just don't know what pressures people
- 4:31are under.
- 4:31Right.
- 4:33Um,
- 4:35So, yeah, it's good to know,
- 4:37and I don't know if it's just the
- 4:39Bears that have that approach when the
- 4:42rookies show up to have mental health
- 4:44experts greet them as they come in the
- 4:46building, or if that's an NFL-wide thing.
- 4:51It'd be interesting to know.
- 4:53But Tyson's the only one that really gives
- 4:54us that peek into what happens behind the
- 4:57scenes.
- 4:58maybe there's other players on other shows
- 5:00that i just don't know about um but
- 5:03tyson not only goes on with savan but
- 5:05he goes on podcasts around the chicago
- 5:07bear community a lot he's very very well
- 5:11liked loved um by the chicago bear
- 5:14community and the media there because he's
- 5:16so accessible and so upfront and honest
- 5:20about everything that he's on podcasts
- 5:23around the bears all the time um
- 5:27And so it's just wild that we get
- 5:31that peak.
- 5:31So that's all I wanted to say.
- 5:35And I wasn't on yesterday.
- 5:37The Bears,
- 5:39what they've been doing this season.
- 5:42the vibes of a six and three season
- 5:45are so much different than where I've been
- 5:47in the past with this team.
- 5:49Um, it's been a long time since we've,
- 5:54um, we made it in the playoffs.
- 5:56Um, we made it in twenty twenty,
- 5:58but it was like back door our way
- 6:00in.
- 6:01Um, I, I,
- 6:04I almost don't know how to act on
- 6:06a Sunday anymore with the Bears because
- 6:09I'm so used to just kind of, um,
- 6:12anticipating losing um and even sunday
- 6:17when they were down by ten points i
- 6:19thought yeah this is over we're probably
- 6:21done and to come back in the last
- 6:24four minutes of the game score two
- 6:27touchdowns and win the game was remarkable
- 6:30and something i'm definitely not used to
- 6:32or or um
- 6:36acclimated to at all um it's really hard
- 6:38for me to uh expect that but uh
- 6:44it is it is fun so so there's
- 6:49that and that's probably all i'm going to
- 6:51talk about there but um but yeah so
- 6:56is anybody doing chad today
- 7:00It is Veterans Day.
- 7:01I know that it has become typically the
- 7:05big day to do a thousand step-ups for
- 7:08time.
- 7:09I have so much going on today.
- 7:13Last year I did half Chad from where
- 7:17I was.
- 7:18Physically, that's what I could do.
- 7:19So I don't know.
- 7:23Maybe I'll do it today.
- 7:24Maybe I'll do part of it today.
- 7:27Um, I've got, I've got to,
- 7:28I actually have to end the show a
- 7:29little bit early today.
- 7:30I have a mechanic coming to work on
- 7:32my one car and I have a business
- 7:34meeting at one.
- 7:36So, uh, I've got to do that.
- 7:39Um, uh,
- 7:44Corey Leonard done Chad once in twenty
- 7:46twenty three.
- 7:47I'm good unless they program it at a
- 7:48comp.
- 7:49I'm in, uh,
- 7:51Vicki coach is programming it for this
- 7:54weekend.
- 7:55Okay.
- 7:57It's tough being in the middle of the
- 7:58week.
- 7:59You'd hate to do Chad and then try
- 8:02to go back to work tomorrow and walk
- 8:07around an office or something like that.
- 8:12John George, my gym programmed it.
- 8:14My knees very clearly said not a chance
- 8:17if you want to participate the rest of
- 8:18the week.
- 8:19So squat clean ladder instead.
- 8:24Um, Jay Birch, probably not this year.
- 8:26I don't have my stepstool.
- 8:30Uh, Eric Mackey partner version today.
- 8:32That's, that's a good idea.
- 8:33Partnered up, um, do that.
- 8:37Uh,
- 8:38Mike DeVito hardest part of chat is
- 8:39keeping count.
- 8:41Ain't that the truth?
- 8:45Yeah, it's funny.
- 8:45Jay Birch last year, if I remember,
- 8:47had a step stool.
- 8:48The thing was really narrow at the top.
- 8:51Can't believe he was doing that.
- 8:53He deserves extra credit for a degree of
- 8:55difficulty for sure on that.
- 8:58Last year,
- 8:59I just did the stairs in my basement,
- 9:02and I just kept going up stairs.
- 9:05and down off of the stairs um most
- 9:08of them i tried to do two steps
- 9:09at a time um some i just did
- 9:11one but that's that's just where i was
- 9:14with my fitness last year um but we'll
- 9:17see i don't really have anything on the
- 9:20docket till i get through these
- 9:21appointments coreland keeping count was
- 9:26terrible it's way more of a mental test
- 9:29than anything else yeah i can see that
- 9:36Vicki, putting it out there,
- 9:38if anybody wants to do their version via
- 9:39video together this weekend, let me know.
- 9:45Sounds fun.
- 9:49Probably the hardest part is doing it
- 9:50alone.
- 9:53I think it would be better at a
- 9:54gym where you can hang out with others
- 9:58and kind of get through it.
- 10:00Yeah.
- 10:08uh the military doesn't doesn't have the
- 10:12same status as it seems to have in
- 10:14the us always weird if they program it
- 10:17in my box uh mike devito never chat
- 10:22alone always use the buddy system yeah
- 10:30yeah sounds good um
- 10:34one topic i did want to talk about
- 10:36today a little bit is if you were
- 10:38with us on the sunday show at all
- 10:40i talked about watching the rock and roll
- 10:42hall of fame inductions um that happened
- 10:45over the weekend and how much i enjoyed
- 10:50some of the performances um with salt and
- 10:53peppa and in vogue coming out uh the
- 10:56sound garden piece was good uh the white
- 10:59stripes piece was good um
- 11:04The Outcast piece was really good.
- 11:07Other than Doja Cat,
- 11:09she ruined Miss Jackson pretty bad.
- 11:14That performance,
- 11:15but the rest of it was really good.
- 11:18And I still have not seen the end
- 11:21of it,
- 11:21which is Cyndi Lauper and Joe Cocker.
- 11:26But the one thing that kind of came
- 11:28up with me watching it is,
- 11:30and the thing that I hate the most
- 11:33about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- 11:34is they wait so long to induct people
- 11:39that the bands can't even perform.
- 11:43um because like bad company they had one
- 11:47surviving member at the rock and roll hall
- 11:50of fame induction ceremony the drummer the
- 11:53lead singer's health didn't allow him to
- 11:55travel so he came in by video and
- 11:58and the rest of them have all passed
- 12:00on at this point so they're inducted in
- 12:03the hall of fame but it's like
- 12:04posthumously and what fun is that you
- 12:08don't get to see them perform
- 12:11And it, the tributes are great.
- 12:14Like seeing other people perform their
- 12:15songs and how well they do is, is,
- 12:17is fun,
- 12:19but it's not the same as getting a
- 12:20chance to see them one last time as
- 12:23they kind of get into the hall of
- 12:24fame.
- 12:26Um,
- 12:28And then you have people like outcast with
- 12:30big boy and Andre three thousand being at
- 12:32a, in a beef refusing to perform together.
- 12:36So big boy performed with celebrities and
- 12:39you get kind of a, uh,
- 12:44kind of get a a mix of of
- 12:48the the real person and some celebrities
- 12:50and it was good it was great i
- 12:51love i love outcast i think what they
- 12:54brought to music in the early two
- 12:56thousands of southern hip-hop was was
- 12:59awesome and uh but it's sad that andre
- 13:02three thousand refused to perform um so uh
- 13:08jody lopper cocker sounds brutal both so
- 13:11old no offense to them but they are
- 13:12beyond their performing years
- 13:15I agree.
- 13:16I have not liked performances by Cyndi
- 13:18Lauper in a few years.
- 13:20Again,
- 13:20it's another thing where she was big in
- 13:22the eighties.
- 13:22It's taken this long to get her into
- 13:24the rock and roll hall of fame.
- 13:26And,
- 13:28and wouldn't it have been better when she
- 13:29was vocally more sound?
- 13:31Joe Cocker was famous in the seventies and
- 13:34now he's finally getting in.
- 13:36I don't even know if he's still alive.
- 13:37I need to watch the end of the
- 13:38show to even see.
- 13:40I love old Joe Cocker.
- 13:41He's on my workout mix a lot.
- 13:45But I don't know if even if he
- 13:47is alive,
- 13:48that the performance now would be that
- 13:50great.
- 13:54Vicky, agree, Jody.
- 13:55Cindy performed at New York Rock and Eve
- 14:00every few years ago, and it was rough.
- 14:02Yeah,
- 14:03she has not been great the last few
- 14:06times I've seen her on anything.
- 14:08So I'm not sure I'm...
- 14:10Looking forward to that,
- 14:11probably why I haven't got to the end
- 14:13of it.
- 14:13I saw Soundgarden.
- 14:16I saw The White Stripes.
- 14:18I saw Outkast.
- 14:19I saw Salt-N-Pepa and Bad Company.
- 14:22Those are the ones I really,
- 14:23really wanted to see.
- 14:31Sorry about that.
- 14:34Cocker is one of the best at doing
- 14:35covers of already great songs and making
- 14:38them better.
- 14:40I think he's doing well.
- 14:44Feeling All Right is my favorite song by
- 14:45him.
- 14:48He's known for a little help with my
- 14:49friends, a little help from my friends.
- 14:53But yeah, he's great.
- 14:56Great.
- 14:58what this did is um it actually created
- 15:00a comment on youtube that i wanted to
- 15:02kind of discuss today and maybe we'll
- 15:04bring it up again this sunday with the
- 15:06with the ladies um and so here i'm
- 15:09going to share my screen uh craig pasley
- 15:12put into the comment section uh scott i
- 15:15just thought about a show topic based on
- 15:17this discussion about the rock
- 15:20Music Hall of Fame,
- 15:22how some bands and singers do not become
- 15:23inducted members until later in life or
- 15:26past life.
- 15:27Show topic.
- 15:29If CrossFit started an elite athlete,
- 15:31including teen, masters, team, individual,
- 15:35Hall of Fame,
- 15:36and only one or two male and one
- 15:38or two female were allowed acceptance each
- 15:41year,
- 15:42how long would it be before some like
- 15:44Dallin, team multiple champion, Jason,
- 15:47and Laura were inducted?
- 15:51And I started to think about this.
- 15:54If only one or two members from each
- 15:56side, men and women,
- 15:58were accepted at a time,
- 16:00how long would it take?
- 16:03I think it really varies with each person
- 16:06you're talking about.
- 16:08One.
- 16:09Two,
- 16:10I think that CrossFit is so young that
- 16:18we don't really know the eras yet.
- 16:21When you talk about the Baseball Hall of
- 16:23Fame, there are the pitching eras.
- 16:27There are the steroid era.
- 16:30There is the hitting era.
- 16:34And then you can kind of tabulate how
- 16:38a person has done in each era.
- 16:43I think CrossFit is still in a place
- 16:44in establishing those.
- 16:47And so it's really hard to then judge
- 16:50who should or who should not be in
- 16:52after you get past the obvious ones,
- 16:56right?
- 16:57There are like a handful of obvious people
- 16:59that need to be in immediately if there
- 17:02was a Hall of Fame.
- 17:03And then it is like,
- 17:05how did they do against their eras?
- 17:08Because you could look at like a Graham
- 17:09Holmberg, who in his era...
- 17:15the level of athlete wasn't what it has
- 17:18been for Dallin and Jason.
- 17:23So Jason's a games champion,
- 17:26elite division.
- 17:27Graham's a games champion, elite division.
- 17:30How do you compare the two at this
- 17:32point?
- 17:34Because I think time will tell us that
- 17:37we're in a golden era of the athlete
- 17:40in CrossFit right now.
- 17:42with as deep as the men's field is
- 17:46and so i think a championship during this
- 17:49this time in a few years is going
- 17:53to look way more impressive than a
- 17:55championship that like jason kalipa had or
- 17:59graham holmberg had and i think at this
- 18:03point we're just looking at them as og
- 18:04legends and we hold them to this highest
- 18:07esteem if we've been around the sport for
- 18:09a long time
- 18:11And they were influencers.
- 18:13And like the Rock and Roll Hall of
- 18:14Fame has that.
- 18:15You can go in as a performer or
- 18:18you can go in as an influencer.
- 18:21Salt-N-Pepa and OutKast went in as
- 18:24influencers, not as performers.
- 18:26where like Bad Company Soundgarden went in
- 18:28as performers.
- 18:30They looked at Salt-N-Pepa and Outkast as
- 18:34more like they created a genre.
- 18:36The female rap thing, Salt-N-Pepa,
- 18:39were the first to kind of break that
- 18:41barrier down where...
- 18:46Outcast were the first Southern hip hop
- 18:48rap that kind of came around.
- 18:51So like,
- 18:51I would look at like Graham and Kalipa
- 18:54as influencers.
- 18:55They kind of started the sport and they
- 18:57be, they made it popular.
- 19:01And then now you look at today's era
- 19:03and now it's about the performance on the
- 19:05floor.
- 19:07And so it's an interesting debate and an
- 19:11interesting conversation for sure.
- 19:14And I think when you look at the
- 19:15women's side,
- 19:16it's a whole lot different because I don't
- 19:18think it's quite as deep and it's had...
- 19:26and I don't think it it's had the,
- 19:29how do I say this?
- 19:30There's been a lot of people like dropping
- 19:32out of the women's side.
- 19:34So their careers are not as long.
- 19:36So I think it gets a lot more
- 19:37complicated on that side.
- 19:43So, um, uh, David Reed,
- 19:47a champion is a champion.
- 19:49I don't agree.
- 19:50I don't agree.
- 19:53Um,
- 19:59But it's all the things that have to
- 20:00be factored in, right?
- 20:02When did they do it?
- 20:03Who were they up against?
- 20:04Who did they compete against?
- 20:09Jody, inducted as influencers,
- 20:11not musicians.
- 20:12That's the way the Rock and Roll Hall
- 20:14of Fame breaks it down.
- 20:16They have people who...
- 20:18And there are people that get in that
- 20:20influencer category that may be a bass
- 20:22player that was a session musician that
- 20:25affected a lot of people that you may
- 20:27never have heard of,
- 20:29but they influenced how bass was played.
- 20:33And so it's a different thing with...
- 20:36And music is not,
- 20:38you don't have winners and losers in
- 20:40music.
- 20:40You just put out stuff and people either
- 20:42like it or they don't.
- 20:43It's much more subjective.
- 20:46So it lends itself more to some things
- 20:48like that.
- 20:49Where CrossFit,
- 20:51it's just so young that we don't really,
- 20:53we don't know enough yet.
- 21:01David coming in strong with a year of
- 21:03one hundred percent wrong.
- 21:04You were saying that Bill Russell is not
- 21:05as good as LeBron.
- 21:07Insane take.
- 21:08I that's maybe not the comparison I would
- 21:13make in my head.
- 21:15I was thinking.
- 21:17It may be the opposite,
- 21:18like a champion in baseball in the
- 21:21nineteen twenties when there were only
- 21:23eight to ten teams meant more than a
- 21:26championship in the two thousands where
- 21:28there's thirty teams and the talent is
- 21:35spread out over way more teams.
- 21:38And so that's what I that's where I
- 21:40would say there's a difference in champion
- 21:42to champion.
- 21:45And I think basketball has been good in
- 21:48the United States for a very long time.
- 21:53There's also,
- 21:54there was a period of time where sports
- 21:56didn't allow people of different
- 21:59ethnicities and colors into the sport.
- 22:02And how do you judge that when the
- 22:04best weren't allowed to play?
- 22:05Yeah.
- 22:07So that would not include a Bill Russell
- 22:11era.
- 22:12And there's debates as to the player.
- 22:15Bill Russell was on a great team that
- 22:16won a lot of championships.
- 22:18But individually,
- 22:19did he ever have to carry that team?
- 22:22There's so many factors into this,
- 22:23David Reed.
- 22:26You can't make a blanket statement that a
- 22:27champion is a champion.
- 22:31There's arguments in the nineteen nineties
- 22:33that the Houston Rockets were not the
- 22:35champions that the Chicago Bulls were
- 22:38because Michael Jordan stepped away.
- 22:50Wayne Short,
- 22:51you can't judge an athlete against a
- 22:52standard that didn't exist when they
- 22:54played.
- 23:05David Reed Graham won the games.
- 23:06He's on that mountain with all the rest.
- 23:08In fact,
- 23:08I would say it was harder since that
- 23:10era had jobs.
- 23:14Every argument you make,
- 23:15I can make a counter argument.
- 23:16Like Jason Kalipa didn't have to qualify
- 23:18to go to the games.
- 23:20He just had to sign up.
- 23:25It was a three event games back then.
- 23:28Like it's just different.
- 23:31It's different.
- 23:33I think the pressure today is, is more.
- 23:42So I think in a couple of years,
- 23:45we're going to look at the era we're
- 23:46in now,
- 23:47as if you can win a championship during
- 23:50this time with this many great athletes,
- 23:52it's going to hold up more than it
- 23:55did.
- 23:56Um,
- 24:00than some of the older eras.
- 24:05The beauty of sports,
- 24:06we can all pass judgment.
- 24:07Well, that's why sports is great.
- 24:10Because everybody has a different opinion.
- 24:13And that's why we have shows like this,
- 24:17to be able to talk this out.
- 24:19And that's the beauty of it.
- 24:27Tristan,
- 24:27the era was absolutely not harder because
- 24:29they had jobs.
- 24:31The fact you can make the games with
- 24:33a job proves it was easier.
- 24:39And David said, we can agree to disagree.
- 24:43Yeah, and that's the beauty of this.
- 24:45We can debate this out.
- 24:48So the examples that Craig gave in the
- 24:51comment were Dallin, Jason, and Laura.
- 24:54I think at this point where we're at
- 24:56today,
- 24:57Laura has had the longest career of those
- 25:00in the elite division.
- 25:02She has run from two thousand eighteen to
- 25:05today and she has stood on the podium
- 25:08a handful of times with one championship.
- 25:12And I would argue she's the second
- 25:13greatest champion,
- 25:16the second greatest CrossFit female
- 25:18athlete that we have seen.
- 25:20That's very debatable against any.
- 25:23The numbers are really close,
- 25:25but I would say that those two are
- 25:26there.
- 25:36Savan, champions had to fight so hard.
- 25:38It's crazy what it takes to win every
- 25:40game since twenty eighteen or twenty two
- 25:42thousand eight.
- 25:44I don't disagree with that statement.
- 25:46I do think it's you.
- 25:47You still have to have a champion's
- 25:48mindset to win.
- 25:51But I think when you're doing a comparison
- 25:54as to who is the greatest of all
- 25:55time,
- 25:56you have to look at the era that
- 25:57they did it in and who the competition
- 26:00was at the time.
- 26:08So...
- 26:10then when you look at Dallin and Jason,
- 26:12I think that their numbers are going to
- 26:13look better in a few years.
- 26:16One, they're very new to the sport.
- 26:19Jason was what?
- 26:20Twenty twenty one when he first qualified
- 26:22for the games.
- 26:23Dallin was twenty twenty two when he first
- 26:28made it to the games.
- 26:28So, yeah.
- 26:36I think that you're going to see that
- 26:38in a few years as their careers go
- 26:40on a little bit longer.
- 26:47Savon,
- 26:47what Mikko did in two thousand nine was
- 26:49superhuman.
- 26:50I'm not I think we're debating two
- 26:51separate things, Savon.
- 26:53I think we're looking at who the greatest
- 26:55of all time was in my conversation.
- 26:57I don't disagree that people winning the
- 26:59games in two thousand.
- 27:02seven through two thousand twelve weren't
- 27:05superhuman or didn't do amazing things i
- 27:08do think they did that but when you're
- 27:10comparing the greatest of all time you
- 27:13have to look at the era in which
- 27:14they did it and who they did it
- 27:17against it's the only way we can truly
- 27:21compare because
- 27:26In prime Matt Frazier never went against
- 27:28in prime Rich Froning.
- 27:31So that leaves this debate that's been
- 27:33hanging out there for years.
- 27:36In prime Graham never went up against in
- 27:38prime Jason Hopper.
- 27:40So we're never going to know what that
- 27:42was if all things being equal.
- 27:45So you have to look at other factors
- 27:48around it to see who you think might
- 27:51have been better.
- 28:03Corey Leonard,
- 28:03a lot of those old games workouts don't
- 28:05hold up today because they, Dave,
- 28:07mostly we're still figuring out how to
- 28:09test for the fittest as the athletes
- 28:11evolve.
- 28:12So did the tests.
- 28:15But I could also argue,
- 28:16this is where it's crazy, Corey.
- 28:17I could also argue against the fact that
- 28:20they were harder back then because they
- 28:23didn't understand it as much.
- 28:25As they were trying to figure it out,
- 28:27they may have over-programmed something
- 28:28and not realized they had done it.
- 28:33And I think it was probably more unknown
- 28:37and unknowable back then because there
- 28:39wasn't twenty years of history to look at
- 28:42and say,
- 28:48wasn't twenty years of history to try to
- 28:49figure out a pattern or a piece they
- 28:53back in the early days they truly did
- 28:56not know was what was coming at them
- 28:59they had no idea us in here is
- 29:07asking kenneth is asking who is the best
- 29:10to never win one i'd have to think
- 29:12about that there's a lot of candidates for
- 29:14that
- 29:18Dallin has done more than Laura.
- 29:21That I disagree with.
- 29:25Dallin is a three-time champ in the teen
- 29:27division.
- 29:30And the teen division in the men's side,
- 29:33to me,
- 29:34has never really proven to be like the
- 29:39incubator for the elite division,
- 29:41like the female side has.
- 29:44A lot of the females who have done
- 29:45well on the teen side have moved into
- 29:49the elite division kind of seamlessly.
- 29:53Dallin is really the only male who has
- 29:56done that with some success so far.
- 30:00Um, now we're,
- 30:01we have to wait on tie.
- 30:03We have to wait on Nate Ackerman and
- 30:05see what those guys do.
- 30:07Uh, but the other,
- 30:08the next person I would say that it
- 30:09was as popular,
- 30:10it was good as Dallin was Angelo to
- 30:12Chico who never saw the individual success
- 30:15in the elite division that Dallin even has
- 30:19at this point.
- 30:20Um, so yeah,
- 30:27Sprague and Austin have done it well too.
- 30:30Did Austin do well in the teen division?
- 30:35Justin, Justin never did,
- 30:37made it in the teen division.
- 30:39He never, never qualified.
- 30:44So, um, um, so yeah,
- 30:57sorry my mechanic is texting me and i'm
- 31:00he just said he's going to be delayed
- 31:01so i could stay a little bit longer
- 31:04uh sorry uh vicky i agree steve on
- 31:09dallin contributes to the space she
- 31:11doesn't okay that's another factor into
- 31:14hall of fame if you're talking hall of
- 31:15fame and greatest ever are we talking
- 31:17about what happens off the floor
- 31:19we talking about what happens on the floor
- 31:22there are some sports when they make their
- 31:23hall of fame it the off the floor
- 31:26stuff does not matter oj simpson is still
- 31:29in the football hall of fame so that's
- 31:37a criteria that would have to be discussed
- 31:43This is a great example, Mark Phillips.
- 31:45I thought Nick Palladino was going to be
- 31:46the next Frazier.
- 31:47Oh, well, there's a lot of those.
- 31:50Dre Strom, he killed the teen division.
- 31:54Nick Palladino,
- 31:56they never amounted to much on the
- 31:58individual side at all.
- 32:06Klanda,
- 32:07would you or should you look at
- 32:09non-crossfit events when you make this
- 32:11list?
- 32:12I think you can look at those events,
- 32:15but I think it's become obvious in the
- 32:16last twelve months that the games matter
- 32:20way more than anything else.
- 32:21Your performance in the game season
- 32:23matters more.
- 32:24Your performance at the CrossFit Games
- 32:26matters more.
- 32:27It's what everybody is striving for and
- 32:30how you compare to your peers at the
- 32:34highest level is what matters most in the
- 32:37CrossFit Games are the highest level.
- 32:47And there's a reason fewer men haven't
- 32:49made the leap.
- 32:54So it's a great it's I think it
- 32:57was a great question that Craig posed and
- 33:00really with a lot of thought.
- 33:03we've done shows where we've picked like
- 33:05who would be the initial four or five
- 33:08to get into a hall of fame.
- 33:10And I think that's a lot easier than
- 33:12looking at who's currently out there and
- 33:14how do they compare against the legends
- 33:17and
- 33:19Because I would say that the golden era
- 33:21before what we're seeing now on the men's
- 33:24division was that like two thousand nine
- 33:27to two thousand fourteen.
- 33:30I think that's where the growth of the
- 33:31sport was the biggest.
- 33:33That's when the people did the most for
- 33:36CrossFit while competing at the CrossFit
- 33:40Games.
- 33:40And that was like the golden era.
- 33:43But I think you're getting almost a second
- 33:45version of that now with Dallin and Justin
- 33:50and Jason and James doing the podcast,
- 33:55letting you in, seeing behind the curtain.
- 33:59Justin doing the affiliate tour.
- 34:02Justin going to military bases with Dave.
- 34:06You're starting to see them do the things
- 34:08that the guys in the...
- 34:11golden era that we call that two thousand
- 34:14nine to two thousand fourteen era.
- 34:17They're starting to do those things.
- 34:20James doing open announcements from the
- 34:22Air Force Base.
- 34:24All of those things were things you saw
- 34:25Rich and Dan Bailey and Graham and all
- 34:29those guys do back in Matt Chan.
- 34:32All those guys do back in that golden
- 34:34era of CrossFit.
- 34:37And so I think if we give that
- 34:39a few more years,
- 34:41that the look at who is the best
- 34:44all time is going to vary because these
- 34:48guys have learned what Colton has done for
- 34:51the sport, how to expand it.
- 34:53The guy that the little engine that could,
- 34:55the person that everybody doubted,
- 34:57the person that nobody thought could make
- 34:59it to the games and what he's done
- 35:01for the underdog.
- 35:03We are in a true new era.
- 35:10Chan is not a Hall of Fame.
- 35:12I agree.
- 35:13He's not a Hall of Famer.
- 35:14But he was part of that golden era
- 35:17where the athletes were red shirts.
- 35:19They were traveling the world,
- 35:22preaching the gospel of CrossFit.
- 35:24They were doing everything they could to
- 35:26grow not only the sport,
- 35:28but the methodology.
- 35:32So that's why I brought him up.
- 35:39Aaron Frazier, that's a good name for now.
- 35:44The era of machines.
- 35:46That's where we're at.
- 35:48Power output machines.
- 35:50That's the era we're in now.
- 35:52Hopefully we can change that narrative.
- 35:56And I don't want to just put like,
- 35:58I think we're in a new golden era
- 35:59with the men.
- 35:59I think there's a group of women doing
- 36:01the same thing.
- 36:03I think Ariel Lowen is trying to do
- 36:05that.
- 36:06I think like the Lucy Campbells are trying
- 36:08to do that.
- 36:09I think they're starting to see the beauty
- 36:12of connecting with the community as much
- 36:16as the men are as well.
- 36:22So, but I think it's a great discussion,
- 36:24a great discussion to have.
- 36:26We'll probably bring it up again on Sunday
- 36:28night CrossFit because I'd like to get
- 36:29Jamie and Carolyn's perspective on this
- 36:34just to kind of see if,
- 36:38how they view this as well.
- 36:40And I love the input you guys gave
- 36:42today.
- 36:45But I've got a low one is connecting.
- 36:53I see what you're saying.
- 36:56She's connecting with the community,
- 36:58but she's not.
- 37:00If she opens that affiliate,
- 37:03then I think that's a step in the
- 37:05right direction.
- 37:09Once they finish that barn gym,
- 37:10and if that becomes a true open to
- 37:13the public affiliate,
- 37:15then I think that is the step in
- 37:17the right direction.
- 37:24Jody says, good topic for sure.
- 37:27Siobhan says, disconnecting.
- 37:36How so, Siobhan?
- 37:40Why I don't understand the comment.
- 37:50Kenneth,
- 37:50the lab says she's connecting with a niche
- 37:52corner of the community.
- 37:56If that's true, Kenneth,
- 37:57a niche of a niche is not awesome.
- 38:04Aaron Frazier.
- 38:05She worked out in an affiliate before she
- 38:06moved to her gym,
- 38:07feeling like she left the community.
- 38:14Yeah.
- 38:14And I don't know,
- 38:15I don't know the reason behind that.
- 38:17Um, yeah,
- 38:26I think truly it depends on when she
- 38:30finishes this gym,
- 38:32she has said it's going to be an
- 38:33affiliate.
- 38:33It's going to be where she coaches and
- 38:35it's going to be,
- 38:37so she will be back into the community.
- 38:41Um,
- 38:43I think that that makes a huge difference
- 38:45right there.
- 38:54David Reed,
- 38:54a loud niche corner who want undefined
- 38:58change.
- 39:01Want change.
- 39:04Okay.
- 39:13people's character truly shows itself
- 39:14during hard times okay uh Chris
- 39:26Easterfield I don't think anybody in this
- 39:29chat is debating that Rich Froning would
- 39:31be one of the initial inductees into a
- 39:33hall of fame um
- 39:39I think that the top of the top
- 39:41and who would be the initial class of
- 39:43a hall of fame would be is way
- 39:45easier than when you get like five, six,
- 39:49seven deep and where you go with that.
- 39:56Mike DeVito.
- 39:57Yes.
- 39:57Let's not forget the community part of it.
- 39:59Great or not working out in your garage
- 40:01makes you different.
- 40:02Not saying never allowed in a hall of
- 40:04fame,
- 40:04but it should be something to take into
- 40:07account.
- 40:11Again,
- 40:12it all depends on your definition of your
- 40:14hall of fame.
- 40:16There are sports hall of fames that truly
- 40:19only look at what happens on the
- 40:21competition floor.
- 40:24there are other sports that factor in what
- 40:29happens off of the competition floor.
- 40:32So if you're, if you're making it,
- 40:35if you're making this hall of fame that
- 40:36does not exist at this point,
- 40:39when you define it, you need to define,
- 40:42this is someone who has contributed both
- 40:45on and off the floor, um,
- 40:49for the betterment of CrossFit.
- 40:51And because CrossFit is more than a sport,
- 40:53it would make sense if I were creating
- 40:56a Hall of Fame,
- 40:58I would define it as both on and
- 41:00off the floor.
- 41:10Now,
- 41:11Siobhan is a hundred percent accurate with
- 41:12the true colors comment,
- 41:13and that's so wildly important.
- 41:19So I have feelings about that.
- 41:22My feeling is that people react to hard
- 41:28times differently,
- 41:31and with that should be some grace and
- 41:36some forgiveness.
- 41:39If we're talking about Lazar's death at
- 41:41the games, I mean, I was there.
- 41:43I was going through that,
- 41:45and it was hard.
- 41:48It was hard,
- 41:48and I honestly did not know how to
- 41:51react.
- 41:52I didn't know how to react.
- 41:55I stayed.
- 41:56I was there.
- 42:03So, yeah, I don't know.
- 42:07It's just...
- 42:09But then there's the grieving process,
- 42:15and at some point...
- 42:19Do I agree with what the PFAA did?
- 42:21No.
- 42:21Do I agree with the letter that was
- 42:23sent?
- 42:24No.
- 42:25All of that I do not agree with.
- 42:29I'd love to hear the whys and why
- 42:31people signed it,
- 42:32and I don't think anybody has ever given
- 42:34us that.
- 42:38But in that moment, in that weekend,
- 42:40that was a hard weekend.
- 42:43I made the decision to stay.
- 42:44I made the decision to cheer for the
- 42:46athletes on the floor.
- 42:49But I know other people didn't.
- 42:50And I don't know their reasonings behind
- 42:53that.
- 42:54And because of my belief system,
- 42:57I believe that they are afforded some
- 42:59grace and some forgiveness.
- 43:01But I don't.
- 43:06Yeah, I don't know.
- 43:07I'd love to hear more on that.
- 43:17Jordan is great.
- 43:18He's the greatest because he won with a
- 43:20fever of a hundred and three.
- 43:25Jordan never, Jordan refused to lose.
- 43:29Jordan wasn't about winning.
- 43:30He was about refusing to lose regardless
- 43:33of the situation.
- 43:35That's why he was great.
- 43:38that is rich i saw rich at the
- 43:40twenty fourteen regionals hacking up a
- 43:44lung off the floor and still going toe
- 43:47to toe with pancheck to get the win
- 43:50at that regional um jenny it was an
- 43:57emotional and reactionary demand i don't
- 43:59disagree with that um but i would love
- 44:04to hear the individual reasonings for
- 44:06signing it
- 44:08It's one thing to have a statement
- 44:10prepared by one person,
- 44:12but why were you the ones that signed
- 44:15it?
- 44:26And Mike DeVito,
- 44:26I agree with you on this point.
- 44:29It's not just that part of it.
- 44:30It went from not knowing how to react
- 44:32to using it as an excuse to call
- 44:34for Dave's removal and push their agendas.
- 44:37Yeah.
- 44:37But if, but I don't,
- 44:40that's where I don't get the connection
- 44:41with Ariel and maybe I just don't know
- 44:43enough.
- 44:44I I've never seen her ask for Dave's
- 44:46removal.
- 44:48I,
- 44:50and so that's the part I don't know.
- 44:53And it may be just my own ignorance
- 44:55in the subject.
- 45:08Kenneth,
- 45:09that statement pisses me off every time
- 45:11someone says it.
- 45:19People have died on racetracks.
