- 0:00John 14, Let us pray. We thank you, Heavenly Father,
- 0:07for another day to come to you, to worship you God, and to know
- 0:11you more intimately. We thank you, Father, for a life
- 0:14worth living. We thank you, Lord, that you
- 0:17have given us purpose and meaning and dignity.
- 0:20Lord, we are here to learn from you.
- 0:23Holy Spirit, teach us. I decrease as you increase.
- 0:27You get the last say. Convict US Father.
- 0:31Help us to know that we are yours.
- 0:34Disciple us, God. Discipline us, Lord, and show us
- 0:38higher paths that we can reach, Father.
- 0:42Continue to sanctify us, Lord, and make us more like you.
- 0:47I pray that we'll have the strength to consecrate this
- 0:50temple, Father. I pray in the name of Jesus,
- 0:53Lord, that you'll help us to come up to where you are, Lord,
- 0:57as you have come into us, Lord, I pray that we can be made your
- 1:03people who are called by your name, Lord, and we could go out
- 1:08and show this world who you are. God, through the love that
- 1:13you've given us and through all of the times that you've loved
- 1:17us and loved us well, we love you and it's in Jesus Christ,
- 1:21holy and precious name, I pray, Amen.
- 1:25Let's start in verse one. Let not your heart be troubled.
- 1:30You believe in God, believe also in me.
- 1:33So here he's starting this chapter out right after he told
- 1:37the disciples that he's going to a place that they could not come
- 1:41yet. And then he tells them that they
- 1:43will come because they're going to have to suffer.
- 1:45But then he says, don't let your heart be troubled.
- 1:49This band of unlearned men would have been dismayed at this
- 1:53moment because their master, who lived a perfect, sinless life,
- 1:57was going to the cross. It meant a brutal death, an
- 2:02excruciatingly painful death. And here you can see that he's
- 2:07saying, in the midst of all of it, he's saying, do not be
- 2:12troubled. And we can have this peace,
- 2:15friends, in the middle of the storm if we will trust him
- 2:20through it all. We can know that the blood of
- 2:23the martyrs, the seed of the Gospel, and that it goes down
- 2:26into the ground and produces A crop.
- 2:31It produces a harvest to in my father's house are many
- 2:37mansions, and if it were not so I would have told you I go to
- 2:41prepare a place for you. So he was going to prepare this
- 2:45New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven after the second
- 2:49destruction by fire. This 2000 by 2000 mile cube,
- 2:572000 miles wide and 2000 miles high and 2000 miles deep.
- 3:04And we can see here that Jesus is referencing this new
- 3:10Jerusalem that will come and will be placed on planet earth
- 3:14after it's made new. And we know that heaven and
- 3:17earth shall pass away, but not one of His words.
- 3:20And we know that as He speaks this, we can rely on it, we can
- 3:24bank on it. And we don't work towards the
- 3:28mansion, we don't work towards the rewards, we don't work
- 3:33towards the Street of Gold or the gates made out of a single
- 3:37Pearl. What we do is we work towards
- 3:42him. We just want him.
- 3:46We want to lay our crowns at his feet.
- 3:48Friends, we want Jesus more than we want anything else.
- 3:53And I pray that that's your story.
- 3:54I pray that you can say that today.
- 4:00Three. And if I go and prepare a place
- 4:02for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that
- 4:05where I am, there you may be also talking about the rapture
- 4:09of the Church. But we also know from the thief
- 4:12on the cross to be absent from the bodies, to be present with
- 4:16the Lord. We know that today you will be
- 4:19with me in Paradise. So we can believe either way,
- 4:22whether you have to go through the waters and He is there with
- 4:25you, or whether you are raptured up to meet Him in the air.
- 4:29Either way, where He went, we will go to be with Him.
- 4:33He's coming for us for and where I go, you know, and the way you
- 4:39know. So here you can see that He is
- 4:42the way. He is the truth and the life.
- 4:45And we know him so that we know the way.
- 4:48And so therefore he's saying to us, don't be troubled.
- 4:53Don't let your hearts be troubled with all the negative
- 4:58news, all of the propaganda, all of the death and disease and
- 5:03decay and wars and rumors of wars and famines and pestilences
- 5:08and earthquakes in various places.
- 5:10Do not be troubled, friends. Know that no matter what, you're
- 5:15going to be there with him. If you are yoked up with him, if
- 5:18you are a bondservant of the Lord Jesus Christ, you can trust
- 5:23and believe that you are covered in His blood.
- 5:26You're going to make it there with Him.
- 5:28He's coming back for you, and His rewards are with you.
- 5:32Look up and see that your redemption is drawing near. 5
- 5:38Thomas said unto him, Lord, we know not where you go, and how
- 5:43can we know the way? So Thomas just says what
- 5:47everyone else is thinking. Praise God for Thomas. 6 Jesus
- 5:52said unto him, I am the way, the truth, the life.
- 5:58No man comes unto the Father, but by me, so he is exclusive.
- 6:03There is no other way to heaven. There's no other way to eternity
- 6:11with Him. There's no other way to the
- 6:13Father except through the Son, Jesus Christ.
- 6:16There is no other way. There is no other life, and
- 6:21there is no other truth other than Jesus Christ.
- 6:25He is our everything. He is not one of many ways.
- 6:33He did not say I'm one of many ways, He says I am the way.
- 6:38There is no other way unto the Father except through Him.
- 6:42He is exclusive friends, and we must come to Him.
- 6:45No matter where you are at in your life, you must come to the
- 6:52Father through Jesus Christ and that is it.
- 6:56There's no exceptions. 7 If you had known me, you should have
- 7:04known my Father also, and from now on you know him and have
- 7:08seen him. 8 Philip said unto him, Lord, show us the Father,
- 7:12and this suffices us. So here Philip just says what
- 7:16everyone else is thinking. He's saying, if you'll just show
- 7:19us God, then we'll believe. And what does Jesus say?
- 7:249 Jesus said unto him, Have I been so long time with you?
- 7:29And you have not known me, Philip, either, has seen me, has
- 7:34seen the Father. And so how do you say then show
- 7:37us the Father? So he's saying I and the Father
- 7:40are one, and then us and him are one, and we can all be one in
- 7:46the same. Praise the Lord for that. 10
- 7:51Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me,
- 7:56The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself, but the
- 8:00Father that dwells in me. He does the works.
- 8:04So he's showing that all the power that he has comes from the
- 8:08Father, and we can have that same power as we're connected to
- 8:12the Father through Jesus Christ. 11 Believe me that I am in the
- 8:21father and the father in me, or else believe me for the very
- 8:24work's sake. So he's telling Philip and he's
- 8:27telling us. He's saying, if you need
- 8:30reassurance, just look at all of the mighty works that I have
- 8:34done. And then we here in our time and
- 8:37our day, we can see all the miracles all around us, friends,
- 8:41and we can believe all of creation proclaims His name, so
- 8:46that we are without excuse. 12 Truly, truly, I say unto you, he
- 8:51that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also, and
- 8:56greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my
- 9:00Father. So we know that he's going to
- 9:02send the comforter. We know that we're going to be
- 9:05indwelled with the Holy Spirit. We know that we're going to be
- 9:08able to exponentially take the whole word to the whole world,
- 9:12translating it into different languages, planes, trains,
- 9:15automobiles, revivals, friends. We're going to be able to reach
- 9:19the whole world with the gospel of Jesus Christ more than he did
- 9:24in his three years of time of traveling by foot.
- 9:28And he's saying that even when Peter on the day of Pentecost,
- 9:31when he preached and 3000 came to him, He's showing us that we
- 9:35will do greater things when the Holy Spirit comes. 13 And
- 9:41whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that I will do, that the
- 9:45Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 And if she, if you shall
- 9:50ask anything in my name, I will do it. 15 And if you love me,
- 9:55keep my commandments. So he's showing us that when we
- 9:58come to him and ask in his name, ask in Jesus name, he will do
- 10:04it. And this is the covey out
- 10:07friends, that whenever we are in tune with Him and obey his
- 10:11commandments, we will know the heart of God and the prayers
- 10:15that we pray will be in line with God's heart.
- 10:20And that is when you're going to start seeing mighty acts of God
- 10:25being wrought in your life because you're in tune with the
- 10:29Father's heart and you're praying the things that are on
- 10:31the Father's heart. And that is when you're going to
- 10:34see mountains move and oceans part.
- 10:38We keep His commandments, we know His heart, we obey Him out
- 10:42of the love that we have for Him, and we watch how He answers
- 10:46our prayers. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give
- 10:52you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever.
- 10:58So he is another comforter because Jesus is a comforter.
- 11:02He's sending us another comforter that's going to abide
- 11:05with us forever, friends. Holy Spirit indwells us forever,
- 11:11friends. And we will be raised to new
- 11:13life and new bodies, friends, and we will have the comforter.
- 11:1817 Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
- 11:23because it sees him not, neither knows him, but you know Him, for
- 11:28He dwells with you and shall be in you.
- 11:31So we know prior to the glorification of Jesus Christ on
- 11:35the cross that the Holy Spirit would come upon people.
- 11:38But now we can see that after John the Baptist that the least
- 11:43in the Kingdom is greater than all the prophets of old, because
- 11:47we are indwelled with the Holy Spirit. 18I will not leave you
- 11:52comfortless. I will come to you.
- 11:54So he's promising us that we're going to be raptured unto him.
- 11:5919 Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more.
- 12:02But you see me, because I live, you shall live also.
- 12:07He's promising us resurrection. He's promising us resurrected
- 12:11bodies. He's promising us that we can
- 12:13still be in tune with Him even after he goes and sits at the
- 12:18right hand of the Father to prepare a place for us and to
- 12:21intercede on our behalf. 20 At that day you shall know that I
- 12:26am in my Father, and you, and me and I and you.
- 12:29This is the promise, friends, that we can all be of 1 accord
- 12:34and of one mind, the mind of Christ. 21 He that has my
- 12:38commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me, and he that
- 12:42loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and
- 12:46will manifest myself to him. God says here, Jesus says here
- 12:52that he's going to reveal himself to us.
- 12:54And I pray that that is something that you experience
- 12:58daily, that He reveals his presence in your life.
- 13:03I pray that as you're going about your day and you're
- 13:05walking in the Spirit, He is pleased to reveal Himself to
- 13:11you, to reveal His presence in your life.
- 13:15And it'll happen in ways that you cannot explain and no one
- 13:19gets the credit for. And it's not by happenstance.
- 13:25It's not by coincidence that those things happen.
- 13:29It's Jesus revealing that He's with you. 22 Judas said unto
- 13:36him, not Iscariot. Lord, how is it that you will
- 13:40manifest yourself unto us, and not unto the world?
- 13:43So here Thaddeus is asking him and saying, How is it that only
- 13:50we will see, but not the world? Because we know when Jesus comes
- 13:54back in his second advent, the whole world will see him coming
- 13:59with all the angels. 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a
- 14:03man love me, he will keep my words, and my Father will love
- 14:07him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him.
- 14:12So we know that we can have the Holy Spirit in dwelling us.
- 14:15We know that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost
- 14:19are one, and they will abide with us as we abide with them.
- 14:2524 He that loves me not keeps, not my sayings, and the word
- 14:30which you hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
- 14:33So there at the time the Jews are trying to say we believe in
- 14:38the Father God from the lineage of Abraham, and they missed the
- 14:45mark. Jesus Christ is God Incarnate.
- 14:4925 These things I have spoken unto you, being yet present with
- 14:53you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the
- 14:58Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and
- 15:02bring all things to your remembrance.
- 15:04Whatsoever I have said unto you, this is what the Holy Spirit
- 15:08does. He confirms God's word in our
- 15:11lives. He jumps and leaps within us as
- 15:14we're reading the Holy Scriptures, and he lets us know
- 15:18that they're trustworthy and true, true and infallible and
- 15:21inerrant, and the spoken word of God that is written down and
- 15:25they are divinely inspired. And the Holy Spirit will bring
- 15:29all these words up out of the deep well that we store them
- 15:33into as we treasure them in our hearts, friends, as we store
- 15:37them in our hearts, so that we do not sin against God. 27 Peace
- 15:42I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world
- 15:48gives I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled,
- 15:51neither let it be afraid. So you can see here.
- 15:54He started the chapter this way, He ends the chapter this way.
- 15:58He tells us not to be troubled, that we can have peace that
- 16:02surpasses all understanding, and Jesus Christ is the Prince of
- 16:07Peace, and we've got to grab ahold of the hymn of His garment
- 16:10and be healed. Friends, we can be healed from
- 16:13the fear of man. We can be healed from all of the
- 16:16fear of death, and we can have this peace in the midst of the
- 16:20turmoil and the tumult and all of the trials in our lives. 28
- 16:26You have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again
- 16:30unto you. If you love me, you would
- 16:32rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father, for my Father
- 16:36is greater than I. So we know that in the office of
- 16:40the Trinity it's God the Father, the Godhead that flows into God
- 16:45made manifest, God Incarnate, Jesus Christ.
- 16:49And we know that the Holy Spirit has the office of indwelling us,
- 16:53and we know that they are equal in all of their power.
- 17:00But we know that they all serve different purposes, and they are
- 17:04separate in the sense that they are their own person.
- 17:10And they all form 1 Godhead, and they are equal in that sense.
- 17:18And He's showing that the Father is greater than Him, because He
- 17:22at this time is in the flesh. 29 And now I have told you before
- 17:28it comes to pass, that when it comes to pass, you might believe
- 17:3230 Hereafter I will not talk much with you, for the Prince of
- 17:36this world comes and has nothing in me.
- 17:39So he's saying that Judas just went and sold him out for the
- 17:43price of a slave, 30 pieces of silver.
- 17:46He's saying here he comes, but he has nothing on me.
- 17:49Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, friends, and the devil
- 17:54tries to raise and rail all kinds of accusations at Jesus,
- 17:58but none of them could stick because he was perfect.
- 18:02He was the only one found worthy to open the scroll, Friends, He
- 18:07has nothing on him. 31 But that the world may know that I love
- 18:12the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, Even so I
- 18:17do arise. Let us go from here.
- 18:23So here we go there at the end of the Passover.
- 18:27He knows what's about to happen. They're about to go out to the
- 18:30Garden of Gethsemane. He's telling this band of
- 18:33unlearned men, these disciples, that he's disciplined.
- 18:36He's saying, let's go from here. What an amazing chapter this is.
- 18:41I hope you've been blessed by it.
- 18:42I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 18:45of you. I love you.
- 18:48We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 18:49God bless you.
