- 2:55Sunny mornings send you. In local news, the retrial
- 3:01of Karen Reed, charged with hitting her Boston
- 3:04police officer boyfriend, is now underway. Defense
- 3:08attorney Alan Jackson claimed Reed's SUV never
- 3:12struck John O 'Keefe, whose body was discovered
- 3:15in the snow on January 29, 2022, following a
- 3:19long night of drinking. And he claimed that O
- 3:23'Keefe did in fact enter the house of the Boston
- 3:26police officers, where he was found dead on the
- 3:29lawn. Jackson argued that O 'Keefe's injuries
- 3:33were consistent with an animal attack, not a
- 3:36vehicle collision. Meanwhile, special prosecutor
- 3:40Hank Brennan contended that Reed, who allegedly
- 3:43consumed nearly nine vodka drinks, hit O 'Keefe
- 3:47with her vehicle. The cases sparked division,
- 3:50with Reed's supporters rallying for her release
- 3:53amid concerns over investigative bias. The opening
- 3:57witnesses' examinations were fiery, to say the
- 4:00least. Things should get real interesting this
- 4:03week, with more witnesses to come. Now on to
- 4:12sports. In last night's NBA playoff action, the
- 4:16Indiana Pacers took a commanding 2 -0 series
- 4:19lead over the Milwaukee Bucks, winning 123 -115.
- 4:24Pascal Siakam led Indiana with 24 points and
- 4:2911 rebounds, while Tyrese Halliburton contributed
- 4:3221 points and 12 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo
- 4:37scored 34 points for Milwaukee. but it was not
- 4:41enough. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder
- 4:44continued to dominate the Memphis Grizzlies,
- 4:47winning 118 -99 and leading the series 2 -0.
- 4:52Despite a strong performance from Jaron Jackson
- 4:55Jr., Memphis struggled offensively, failing to
- 4:59score 100 points for the second consecutive game.
- 5:03In local sports. Last night at Fenway, the Sox
- 5:08beat the Mariners 8 -3. with Fayot securing the
- 5:11win by giving up just one run over five innings.
- 5:15A highlight was Kassa's three -run homer in the
- 5:18seventh. Crawford and Duran added keyed RBIs,
- 5:22helping the Sox notch their 14th win as they
- 5:25dominated with 19 hits to Seattle's 11, handing
- 5:30Seattle's Miller the loss. Tonight, the Sox faced
- 5:34the Mariners at Fenway with a chance for the
- 5:37three -game sweep. John Newcomb, with a 2 .29
- 5:42ERA and a 5 -2 record, goes up against Emerson
- 5:46Hancock, who holds a 3 .63 ERA. First pitch is
- 5:52at 645, with expectations of a comfortable 68
- 5:56degrees under clear Boston skies. It sounds like
- 6:00a great night for baseball. In basketball, tonight,
- 6:05the Celtics host the Orlando Magic at TD Garden.
- 6:09Boston leads the series with the first win. The
- 6:13game tips off at 4, and Boston is favored by
- 6:1510 .5 points. In top news, in a shift reminiscent

- 6:57students who may rely on these technologies for
- 7:00various aspects of their lives, from academics
- 7:03to personal advice. In business news, the largest

- 7:20are adding to their reserves to cover expected
- 7:22losses, while Synchrony is tightening lending
- 7:25standards. Delinquencies are rising, reaching
- 7:29levels seen before the pandemic. Despite concerns,
- 7:33consumer spending has remained strong. with Bank

- 8:57Let's talk science. A fascinating study reveals
- 9:01the brain's remarkable survival mechanism during
- 9:04marathons. Carlos Matute, a neuroscientist from
- 9:09the University of the Basque Country, discovered
- 9:11that myelin, the fatty insulation around nerve
- 9:14fibers, provides energy when fuel runs low. This
- 9:19research, published in Nature Metabolism, showed
- 9:22that during a marathon, myelin levels decreased
- 9:25in areas responsible for motor coordination and
- 9:28emotion. but recovered within two months. While
- 9:31some headlines sensationalize the findings as
- 9:34the brain eating itself, Matute emphasizes that
- 9:38these adaptations are both nuanced and promising,
- 9:41highlighting the brain's ability to change even
- 9:44in adulthood. And in entertainment news, a bankruptcy

- 10:2111 bankruptcy. due to high costs from in -house
- 10:25content creation and a strained partnership with
- 10:28Warner Brothers Discovery. The auction deadline
- 10:31for bids is May 16th, with concerns about the
- 10:35studio's profitability looming. Well, alrighty
