Transcript
- 0:24Welcome in to a very exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:27I am your host, Bubba Starts.
- 0:29And with me today are my cohosts, Boo Boo and Wild Willie.
- 0:34Man, this is love noise.
- 0:36Welcome in, everybody.
- 0:37Our first kinda trial run.
- 0:40Boo Boo, why don't you go ahead and introduce yourself and let the people know who you are,
- 0:45where you're from?
- 0:48I'm Boo boo.
- 0:49I am the producer for the Scene Projects from South Dakota.
- 0:55I'm also the host of an upcoming podcast, the boo boo show.
- 0:59I'm the host of Freestyle Freakouts and cohost the love noise.
- 1:03That's right.
- 1:04How about you, Willie?
- 1:05Well,
- 1:08I'm Wild Willie.
- 1:11I am an owner of Backwards Production, but my main focus right now has been my podcast, Soul
- 1:17Impact, how music saved us, and, you know, I'm just doing my thing out here.
- 1:25Both of you gentlemen are big parts of what we've been doing here at the Scene Projects
- 1:28these last several months.
- 1:30This is the first time we're getting together to do Love Noise, which is our brand new show
- 1:36focused on really supporting the music that infatuates us around the scene projects crew.
- 1:44Obviously, those of you who are fans of the show, you know that we host artists on our
- 1:49programming every single week.
- 1:51And now this is kind of our chance to introduce you to the music from the artists themselves.
- 1:58So what we're gonna do tonight is similar to what we're gonna do in the future with other
- 2:03artists.
- 2:04Tonight, we're gonna feature a couple of my songs, but in the future, we'll be bringing on,
- 2:09hopefully, other artists and listening to their tracks and giving them a little bit of
- 2:13feedback, what we like, what we didn't like, interview them a little bit, and kinda just our
- 2:18hangout.
- 2:19This is a giveback to our community of the scene projects, which has been growing rapidly.
- 2:24And very, very much thanks to the success of shows like Soul Impact and from the hard work
- 2:31that Boo Boo's been putting in behind the scenes for us and really looking forward to Boo
- 2:36Boo's show and some more stuff from Freestyle Freakout.
- 2:41So I think Freestyle Freakout has a has a future using StreamYard like we are tonight
- 2:47too.
- 2:47So really excited about this fellas.
- 2:49How are you feeling about it?
- 2:51I'm excited.
- 2:52I feel great.
- 2:53I think this is an awesome way to do things.
- 2:57And the fact that now you're on here with us too, you know, and it's all three of us.
- 3:02I think it's gonna be an even better show each week.
- 3:05Oh, absolutely.
- 3:06I I can't wait to get further into it.
- 3:08You know?
- 3:11When you first came to me with it, I was so excited just, you know, it kinda ties right
- 3:16into what I'm already doing with my podcast.
- 3:18So it just it comes natural because, you know, I did a lot of people that when they talk to
- 3:27me, they send me their music, and they're like, I'm having trouble putting it out there.
- 3:31So then I can be like, hey.
- 3:33I got this.
- 3:34You know?
- 3:34So it kinda gives them another another stepping stone.
- 3:39It's really kind of
- 3:40a full circle.
- 3:41Right?
- 3:41We're all interviewing artists all the time and and bringing them in to to, you know, talk
- 3:46about them and share their story.
- 3:49But it it's not always easy, you know, in the settings that we've been in to play their music
- 3:54and to listen to it and and to be able to bring that out to our fans as well.
- 3:59So this is really, I'm really excited about it, man.
- 4:02This is this is totally rad to be able to come on here.
- 4:05And for me, these are two unreleased songs that I'm kinda bringing out here for the first time
- 4:10to let my buddies hear them and just kinda thinking about what what that means to me as an
- 4:15artist.
- 4:15I've been so focused on this podcast now for the last eighteen months that I've kind of
- 4:21forgot about the, the the songwriter in me.
- 4:25Right?
- 4:25I've kinda buried that man as, I've been very focused on supporting other songwriters.
- 4:30But tonight, I'm looking forward to have a lot of fun.
- 4:32So I think it's time to get into some music.
- 4:34What do you guys think?
- 4:35Yeah.
- 4:35Let's do it.
- 4:36Let's dive into
- 4:39these are from my my band starts and ends.
- 4:41These are some songs that I've been working on in the studio, for the last, like, nine months
- 4:46or so.
- 4:46Kinda laid the the beginning tracks of these down back in December when I was out in the
- 4:52Black Hills.
- 4:52Shout out to my buddy Tom Freer with Cottonwood Studios.
- 4:56Diami Drew is on base on this one.
- 4:58You're gonna hear a little bit of Johnny Hastings on guitar here later too.
- 5:02Tom Freer also played drums on this one.
- 5:04So, some really epic tracks that we've been working on, and the first one I wanna play for
- 5:09you guys is called everlasting.
- 6:17That's me.
- 6:21Oh, I know who it is.
- 6:22I was used to as a men's band before we were friends.
- 7:39I ain't got light.
- 7:40Kinda wanted me getting up dance.
- 7:42Kinda made me wanna get up and dance.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:44Like
- 7:47Cool, man.
- 7:48It makes me feel so good to share that with my friends, you know?
- 7:53Not a lot of people have heard these songs, right?
- 7:56You know, I've played this one live a little bit and we definitely had the I've had this
- 8:05idea out there for quite a while.
- 8:07So, actually, the song or the song is about when I found out my granny that the cancer she
- 8:14had beaten, you know, twenty years earlier had come back, and it wasn't it wasn't gonna be
- 8:19long.
- 8:19Right?
- 8:20And I had an a very finite amount of time left, with my mom's mom.
- 8:25I, you know, I called her my granny.
- 8:27And, it just kinda hit me, man.
- 8:29And this is this is how I get my feelings out.
- 8:32Right?
- 8:32And it was all the you know, you think you have all the time in the world, but but it you never
- 8:38do.
- 8:38You know?
- 8:39And and kinda dealing with that a little bit this week too and kinda share a little personal
- 8:44story, but, you know, just just over a week ago, I had a cousin, probably one of my
- 8:49favorite cousins.
- 8:50I mean, everybody loved him.
- 8:51My cousin Jeremy starts, 49 years old, man, died.
- 8:56Like, you know, heart complications, we don't really know exactly what, or at least I haven't
- 9:01heard yet, but, you know, just gone.
- 9:04One of the healthiest people that I ever knew.
- 9:07And, I think that this song really this song really captures that that energy.
- 9:14Right?
- 9:15That just go live it energy that I think I've always kind of, lived my life by, that you just
- 9:21gotta go for it.
- 9:22You you can't wait for tomorrow because none of us are promised tomorrow.
- 9:26Parenthood.
- 9:28Yeah.
- 9:29This song means a lot to me.
- 9:31And I know it's a really you know, it's not necessarily a song that my you know, that would
- 9:38have been my granny's favorite genre or or that, but it was really that emotion that
- 9:42struck me and that it you gotta keep going.
- 9:46Right?
- 9:46You you gotta go live that life to the fullest.
- 9:49You can't pull your foot off the gas at any point.
- 9:53And, there's one point in there actually where the, after that second chorus, and there's a
- 9:59part where, like, all the sound finally stops.
- 10:02Right?
- 10:02You've been the whole song, and then there's a little bit of just like a breath in there.
- 10:09And I thought the guys in the studio really captured that, and we were able to to mix that
- 10:14down and to really make that moment come through.
- 10:18You know?
- 10:18It's one of the hooks of the song, especially when you're gonna get in your truck and you're
- 10:22gonna crank it up, and it's just thumping away.
- 10:25You know?
- 10:25Diami just killed that baseline.
- 10:28Right?
- 10:28Thumping that whole thing out.
- 10:30And, that little breath, that's the essence of life.
- 10:34Right?
- 10:34Those little moments that is only a half of a second.
- 10:38It's a smile.
- 10:39It's a, you know, it's a small, tiny memory, but those are what live on with us, you know,
- 10:46from, you know, the people that we love, that we lost.
- 10:49So that song's really, it's really a deep one for for a very straightforward kinda rock and
- 10:56roll song.
- 10:57It really has some deep, deep meaning to me personally, and I hope that in time, other
- 11:02people kinda gravitate to it for that reason as well.
- 11:06So, Willie, what'd you think?
- 11:08Oh, I try not to.
- 11:10It gets me in trouble.
- 11:11But, honestly, from coming from you you know a little bit, not everyone does, but the health
- 11:18cares I had and just listening to the lyrics.
- 11:21You know?
- 11:21I've kinda gotten, and that's why if you kinda was watching, I closed my eyes when I hear a
- 11:25song for the first time because unless I'm driving.
- 11:30Okay?
- 11:31But if I'm really sitting down to listen to a song, I close my eyes and I listen to, one, the
- 11:37beat of it, two, the lyrics.
- 11:41And, you know, I kinda getting that vibe, you know, just go for it.
- 11:45You know?
- 11:46You said everlasting, and it was just time everlasting.
- 11:50And, you know, that just kinda stuck because, you know, that's kinda what I got out of, but
- 11:54also at the same time, I could see that song that was me, a DJ aspect.
- 12:00It's very catchy.
- 12:02It it really is.
- 12:03I could see that being a song that I I play at a DJ event, and people will be like, yeah, you
- 12:08know, up there grooving and, you know, so it had a lot going for it.
- 12:14And, you know, you take the compassionate story and you hit it with a little uptempo music, and
- 12:24it completely changed how the story was told.
- 12:30What you got, boo boo?
- 12:33Honestly, I really liked it and, like, I felt the emotion in the song and knowing where it
- 12:38comes from, you know, like, it hits me a lot more because, like, both of my grandmas before
- 12:44they passed, they would have loved that song.
- 12:46Like, hearing the word everlasting, like, I thought it would last forever.
- 12:50And literally in the blink of an eye, I watched their health fall out of nowhere.
- 12:54And so, like, I don't know.
- 12:56The song hits hard and, like, it's got the right kind of emotion because, like, well,
- 13:01like, yeah, the story that brought you it was sad.
- 13:03The song still feels really uplifting and, like, you know, you're trying to more push the
- 13:08better side.
- 13:09Like, you know, it's not forever, but you can still, you know, make it last, it feels like.
- 13:15Yeah.
- 13:16And I just love the the wordplay in the song.
- 13:18Right?
- 13:19The time's everlasting, but time never lasts.
- 13:22Exactly.
- 13:23Was just kind of the line.
- 13:25That was really the, like, the start of the song.
- 13:27Right?
- 13:28Thinking about my granny.
- 13:30And, I mean, we could have lost her twenty years ago.
- 13:32She had a very rare form of of of cancer that, I mean, kills, like, eighty percent of the
- 13:40people that that did it.
- 13:41Right?
- 13:42I think it was a form of osteosarcoma.
- 13:44I think it was a form of bone cancer.
- 13:46Oh, wow.
- 13:48It was very rare.
- 13:50I don't know for sure exactly what it was, but the the experimental drugs.
- 13:56Right?
- 13:56Like, they they gave her us two decades with my granny, and we lived right next to her.
- 14:01I was very close with her.
- 14:01Right?
- 14:02I was very close with my mom's mom throughout my whole life.
- 14:06And it kinda was like, you know, did you did you do enough in those twenty years that you
- 14:12got to to really, you know, to to let her know that you loved her and and that you learned you
- 14:19learned the lessons that she was trying to teach you and yeah, it just yeah.
- 14:25I love writing songs, guys.
- 14:27It's always been how I get out all of this emotion in me.
- 14:31I mean, you guys know you've seen me get fiery.
- 14:36Willie's Willie's seen me step on stage when it's time for hell house to shut the hell up.
- 14:41Yeah.
- 14:42Yeah.
- 14:45How how fiery I can get.
- 14:47And, you know At
- 14:4903:00 in the morning.
- 14:51Oh
- 14:53my goodness, man.
- 14:54Such a good time.
- 14:55Shout out to captain Jacks down there at Summersville, Missouri.
- 14:59I had a great time at Vibe Fest, man.
- 15:01Me and Asher landed down there.
- 15:03We made a lot of noise, and I was so happy to get to share those moments.
- 15:08But, yeah, boys, it's 2AM.
- 15:10Shut the fuck up.
- 15:12He didn't even say shut up.
- 15:15Let's just be honest.
- 15:16Yeah.
- 15:17Let's to look to Willie, and the speakers went dead.
- 15:20He just gave me this, I'm gonna fucking kill you, Luke.
- 15:26And I was like, I got it.
- 15:27I got it.
- 15:29He's he looked at
- 15:30you and said, Willie,
- 15:31I wasn't even mad at Willie.
- 15:33Said
- 15:33Man, if they would have been playing some music, boo boo, and it would have been
- 15:36chilling.
- 15:37It probably would have let him go all night.
- 15:39But these dudes are on here shouting at no one.
- 15:42Right?
- 15:42Like this festival was super small.
- 15:45Everybody's chilled out, and they're acting like there's 30,000 people there screaming on
- 15:50saying, like, I understand.
- 15:51I know you wanna bring that vibe.
- 15:53You know?
- 15:53We gotta get people up.
- 15:54But, boys, read the room.
- 15:57You're acting like it's hadn't even started yet.
- 15:59Morning.
- 16:00Festival hasn't even started yet, though, to be honest.
- 16:03I was right.
- 16:04As I was more mad about Thursday night today.
- 16:08No.
- 16:08It's not.
- 16:09Because Thursday night, we got there early to set up sound.
- 16:13And then with me and Bubba, we tagged team sound.
- 16:16And two, 03:00 in the morning, I was like and sometimes that's where I need to be a little
- 16:26more firmer and be like, no.
- 16:27You guys are done.
- 16:28Well and who's gonna tell you no, Willie?
- 16:31Like, gonna who's gonna walk up to your big ass and be like, I'm gonna do it out.
- 16:37No.
- 16:37They go they're gonna listen.
- 16:40Just got that entire sound.
- 16:42Oh my god.
- 16:44Oh, so good.
- 16:45Well, I'm I'm really glad that you guys liked that one.
- 16:48Well That song means a lot to me, as you can tell.
- 16:50I mean, even getting choked up now, you know, talking about it because I kinda in some ways,
- 16:56as an artist, I kind of I kinda hide my emotions inside of that too.
- 17:01Right?
- 17:03I don't I kinda put them there, and I leave them there.
- 17:07And then it happens to to kinda come out more when I'm when I'm doing it.
- 17:13Right?
- 17:14As I'm as I'm singing it, that emotion can come out, you know, songs that I've written for my
- 17:19wife kind of the same way.
- 17:20And so real, really happy that you guys dug that one.
- 17:26So the next one I got for y'all, we're gonna bring
- 17:29them up.
- 17:29Real quick.
- 17:30Go ahead.
- 17:31When you do release that, you let me know because I'm gonna have you back on the show.
- 17:39I I just did.
- 17:40I just released it right I don't even think I'm putting this stuff on the streamers, man.
- 17:45I think I'm gonna put it available as an m p three if you wanna come download it off the
- 17:49website.
- 17:50Right?
- 17:51Like, I'm just I'm so done with all the garbage streaming and everything.
- 17:55Like, I ain't never gonna make any money off of this.
- 17:57They're never gonna let me in.
- 17:58You know what I mean?
- 17:59The music industry ain't never gonna let me in because I won't let them buy me, and I won't
- 18:03let them crush my soul, and I ain't gonna give them a piece of nothing.
- 18:06I'd rather go out here and be broke and maintain my integrity and have what I built in
- 18:11this community.
- 18:12I've spent twenty five years building around me and to keep that rather than ever giving an
- 18:18inch to these people that don't want me anyway.
- 18:21If they wanted me, I've been here the whole time.
- 18:24Exactly.
- 18:24And, honestly, what's the point of going on streaming platforms?
- 18:27I've made what?
- 18:28A dollar off of one year worth of streaming platforms.
- 18:31And in two month in the in the two months I had my merch supply, I sold out.
- 18:36Right.
- 18:36I sold it all out.
- 18:37Made a 100 times that.
- 18:40And I don't know Boo Boo that well yet, but it's getting there.
- 18:44But the way and I can tell you this.
- 18:47The way you meet people, Bubba, and I have not heard a person like, even on the people that
- 18:56you have sent to me, they speak so highly of you.
- 19:00And I'm not saying this to give you a big head, so don't think that.
- 19:04But they see the passion you put into everything.
- 19:10It's not just your it's your music, your everyday life.
- 19:16You know?
- 19:16And we we talked on my show about how I'm a I'm a fuck it up.
- 19:24I know.
- 19:25But how basically when
- 19:29you get
- 19:29up there and you're seeing, people know your story.
- 19:34That may not be exactly how you said it.
- 19:36And like I said, I know I'm gonna fuck it up.
- 19:39But that is what makes an artist.
- 19:42And I honestly and I'm not knocking anyone, but that's what I want when I hear a song.
- 19:48I want that here I am laid all out on the line.
- 19:54And not
- 19:54And these these are the stories of my life, man.
- 19:57Like, when when I talk and so when I like, every single song that I've written has a
- 20:02story, and I can tell you exactly where I was at that moment and where I was in my personal
- 20:08life and where I mean, physically where I was when I wrote the songs.
- 20:12Right?
- 20:13I mean, I was right I was right here when I wrote everlasting.
- 20:16I'm literally right in this same spot writing this song just a few short years ago.
- 20:21And, for now to hear it sound like it does, it's really it's really a treat.
- 20:27Alright.
- 20:27I got another song for you guys.
- 20:29You wanna hear it?
- 20:30Yes.
- 20:30Of course.
- 20:31This next one is called fools.
- 20:33So this is actually a a much older song, but really happy.
- 20:39It's got the right vibe, man, and I know I had the right guys for it too.
- 20:43Diame Giroux is one of the best bass players I've ever seen, man.
- 20:47Young cat.
- 20:47He's maybe 22 now.
- 20:50I don't I don't even know.
- 20:51He's young, man, but he's so so good, and he's such a a lovable kid, man.
- 20:57And and he offered to come in and to help me with these songs, and he came in so well
- 21:02prepared.
- 21:03I mean, we really ran through these songs like three takes.
- 21:06Me, Tom, and Diami had never even played together before.
- 21:09Not like this.
- 21:10Right?
- 21:10And we literally jumped in the studio, wrapped them a few times, and then it was like, okay.
- 21:15Let's hit record.
- 21:16And, so this is fools.
- 21:29Johnny Hastings on guitar on this one.
- 21:31That's not me.
- 24:07Wow.
- 24:08That's my favorite guitar player in the world, fellas.
- 24:13That's Johnny Hastings, man.
- 24:16Understand why.
- 24:18What a freaking treat, man.
- 24:23Un unbelievable.
- 24:24God.
- 24:25I love I love the way that that one came out.
- 24:28That man is amazing.
- 24:30Man, that song's been in my head.
- 24:32Right?
- 24:32That song's been in my head, and I played it with the band, you know, 02/2009, 2010 and had
- 24:40a band, and it sounded pretty good then.
- 24:42But that song's been on a shelf for fifteen years.
- 24:44Yeah.
- 24:45Fifteen years, this song's just been sitting on a shelf not doing anything.
- 24:49Right?
- 24:50And to have it now, like this is just, man, unbelievable.
- 24:58And Johnny just Johnny killed it.
- 25:00I cried.
- 25:01I cried.
- 25:02When he sent me these songs back, I was just like, what?
- 25:07Like, that's that's that's that's how that sounded?
- 25:13Sick.
- 25:13Wow.
- 25:15Sick.
- 25:18Oh.
- 25:20That is an amazing song.
- 25:22Thank you.
- 25:23Is.
- 25:23That's probably my favorite one I've heard so far tonight, and that includes all the other
- 25:27stuff I heard before the show.
- 25:32I will say this much.
- 25:33It is a good song, but, man, it it puts you in your fillers.
- 25:39Like That is Yeah.
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:41Especially for somebody like you, Willie, who's been through the ringer.
- 25:44Right?
- 25:45Oh, yeah.
- 25:46I mean and I ain't gonna lie.
- 25:48I I sit there and listen to it, and it you know?
- 25:52And I'm horrible with wording, so I don't get upset if I mess the words up.
- 25:57But where it talked about the I'm sitting here with a bottle.
- 26:01It's either the bottles or the booze or blues.
- 26:05You know?
- 26:05Yeah.
- 26:05I I was there two and a half, three years ago.
- 26:09You know?
- 26:10My ex wife had left, and it was like, that's probably one of them songs that you put out
- 26:15there.
- 26:15It's gonna be downloaded by this guy because, you know, it's songs like that is the reason I
- 26:22do what I do.
- 26:23You know?
- 26:23And it makes you realize that maybe you've not dealt with some of the demons, yeah, you
- 26:32encountered.
- 26:32Or on the flip side of that, for me, it made me realize how far I've come.
- 26:39You know?
- 26:40Because here I was three years ago chasing chasing another bottle, doing what I needed to
- 26:47do.
- 26:50Not necessarily the right choices, but, man, it it that song kinda smatch in the face with it.
- 26:55If you didn't get that message you know, if you didn't hear about how, you know, you know,
- 27:03you're thinking about that person.
- 27:05You've been with that person for however long,
- 27:07and then it's just thousand shiny daggers every time I hear your name.
- 27:11Right?
- 27:12Oh, yeah.
- 27:12This Yeah.
- 27:13How how's she doing for people that don't know you're broke up, and you're just like, you
- 27:17gotta tell that story again.
- 27:18Right?
- 27:19Oh, yeah.
- 27:19It's like
- 27:20A stab, man.
- 27:21Yeah.
- 27:22What's funny about this Yeah.
- 27:24Willie, is that I wrote this song while I was with my oldest boy's mom, and things were good.
- 27:30Right?
- 27:30Not knowing that that was gonna be by far the worst breakable.
- 27:33I mean, still breaking up.
- 27:34My son's 13.
- 27:36This woman still sticks the knife in me when she gets a chance to.
- 27:39You know?
- 27:40So, yeah, to to finally get this one out the same way, man.
- 27:44We're just like, man.
- 27:46And then to have Johnny Hastings just absolutely destroy the guitar on it.
- 27:51I mean, I he wasn't with us in the studio.
- 27:54So, me, the drummer, and the bass player all got together.
- 27:58Like I said, we ran through the songs a couple of times and hammered them out, and I was
- 28:01trying to get through as many as I wanted to because I didn't wanna waste my time.
- 28:04I recorded this back in the Black Hills Of South Dakota.
- 28:07I live five hours away.
- 28:08I don't make it out there very often.
- 28:09So I wasn't I knew the process was already going to be drawn out.
- 28:13So we had to maximize the time while we were there.
- 28:16And we got, I think, five tracks done in in, like, four hours.
- 28:19Like, that's unheard of.
- 28:20People don't do that, especially songs that you don't it took boo boo four hours to do a vocal
- 28:25track, and the dog screwed it all up anyway.
- 28:28Well, I got it done.
- 28:29The dogs just kept screwing it up.
- 28:30I had to leave until I could get it done.
- 28:36So so to to to be in a position where we got all of these songs done, and that was like,
- 28:43cool.
- 28:43I I knew it was gonna be a while till I made it back again to do any kind of vocal work or
- 28:47anything like that.
- 28:48And kind of in the meantime, was able to go and sent him off to to my boy Johnny with some
- 28:57scratch vocals on him and then came back and did the the true vocal tracks on him.
- 29:02And, man, I got some stories about stories about that day too.
- 29:06That that was a wild one.
- 29:08But, man, I got one more for you guys that I actually wanna play, after hearing Johnny.
- 29:14Yes.
- 29:14I freaking I just love it so much, man.
- 29:16I mean, I really felt that last one.
- 29:18I can't wait to hear the next one.
- 29:20Wow.
- 29:21This next one is called Drifter.
- 29:22And I hope it don't put me in my fillers.
- 29:25Well, it might.
- 29:26You never know.
- 29:27You never know, man.
- 29:29Is These are these are, man, these are just in the mixing process, so they are totally raw.
- 29:35They haven't been mastered yet.
- 29:36This is this is a raw track.
- 29:38So you're gonna hear a little bit a little bit of a flub at the beginning here, but I I think
- 29:43it kinda adds to the song, and I do it.
- 29:46So this is Drifter, and I hope everybody digs on this one.
- 29:50Now, he's gonna put me my feelers with this one, I bet.
- 29:57Playing?
- 29:58I'm not hearing
- 30:00anything.
- 30:01I'm hearing like a buzz.
- 30:02I'm not hearing anything either.
- 30:04Alright.
- 30:04We're gonna have to Like
- 30:09There it is.
- 30:13Oops.
- 30:15That was supposed to we'll edit that out in post, guys.
- 30:17Don't worry.
- 30:19Alright.
- 30:19Here we go.
- 30:20Here's the
- 30:21Leave the wrongness of it.
- 34:43I'm leaving that little bit in at the end too when we press it on vinyl, I think.
- 34:48Well, that one definitely definitely put me in my feelers.
- 34:55Think anybody I think anybody who's lived a little, that that's that one's gonna get you.
- 34:59Right?
- 35:00Yeah, I mean, that one really reminds me of like, I mean, you know what happened back in
- 35:04high school, you know, like right after my girlfriend died, you know, when I felt like
- 35:07nowhere was home, it really, you know, felt a lot like that song, you know?
- 35:11Brother, I've been there, man.
- 35:12But I felt like there was nothing and I was nowhere for me to go.
- 35:17I actually wrote this one in prison.
- 35:19So I wrote this song eight, nine years ago.
- 35:22You know, married to another woman at the time.
- 35:24I didn't even know Danielle then.
- 35:26I I hadn't seen my kids.
- 35:27I hadn't seen Judah in probably five years at that point, six years.
- 35:33I my I met my daughter through the glass.
- 35:35Right?
- 35:36My daughter was born while I was in.
- 35:38I hadn't seen my son, Mickey.
- 35:41And now, like, the song means so much more now than it ever did.
- 35:45Like, it told the story of, like, me leaving that life behind and then coming into the life
- 35:52I have now.
- 35:53Right?
- 35:53And and it's kind of fun that a lot of these songs are getting finished now when things are
- 35:58so good.
- 35:59Right?
- 35:59The network is moving on to you know, not moving on to.
- 36:02It's moving on to Roku and And that, like, huge
- 36:05Yeah, man.
- 36:05We're we're we're on TV, baby.
- 36:08You know?
- 36:08I've been on I've been on network television or not network, but, you know, local, you know,
- 36:14cable TV, you know, eight times or nine times in the last year and a half, and, it's just
- 36:21such a different life now than where I was then.
- 36:25And for, like, the songs to be done now, I feel like is somehow closing the chapter on a lot of
- 36:31those things too.
- 36:32So, what'd you
- 36:34think, Willie?
- 36:36I think it goes hand in hand with that last one.
- 36:39I really do.
- 36:40Because, like, it that last one, you know, talked about the bottle and who you were, and
- 36:47that one basically starts out you know, it takes me back to my first real relationship,
- 36:54you know, that it broke out.
- 36:55So I went to truck driving, you know, and I spent five months over the road.
- 37:00I didn't come home.
- 37:01I had no reason to.
- 37:03So, you know, for that, it just takes that you know?
- 37:08And I tell everybody now, I couldn't go back to truck driving because I'd miss my family.
- 37:12I I'd miss my daughter.
- 37:13You know?
- 37:15So I there's no way I could do it.
- 37:19You know?
- 37:19And it just tells you how us as humans have evolved in our life and outgrew the things that
- 37:32we thought we would never outgrow.
- 37:34Like, you know, for me, trucking, I thought I was gonna truck the rest of my life.
- 37:38You know?
- 37:40Because I enjoyed it.
- 37:41But then it there's comes a point where that lifestyle, you know, pretty much a trucker is a
- 37:49drifter if you're never home.
- 37:51You you I mean, you think about it.
- 37:52And It's the same life as a rock star too.
- 37:55Right?
- 37:55Or or as anyone with an addiction.
- 37:57Yeah.
- 37:58You might not be you could be in one place, but still drifting.
- 38:01Right?
- 38:01And still being listless in an ocean.
- 38:04Yeah.
- 38:05I mean air.
- 38:05Heck, I lived in one place, but I didn't have a home, really.
- 38:09You know?
- 38:11I mean, a lot like what Willie
- 38:12said Parallels between mine and your life, man.
- 38:16Like, I could.
- 38:18What's crazy is, like, how many things we have in common that we experience or how different,
- 38:22like, how far apart we are in age, you know?
- 38:28Not to not to make you sound old.
- 38:30You're not old.
- 38:31No.
- 38:32But, bro, I mean, it's I'm almost twenty years older than you.
- 38:34I I I am very much your senior, but I you know, the reason that I probably gravitate so much to
- 38:44you and try to be that, you know, kind of that that mentor, that big brother figure is because
- 38:49I see so much of my experience in you.
- 38:52Right?
- 38:53You know, you're you're a young musician and songwriter, and you want this thing, but, like,
- 38:58bad shit just keeps happening to you.
- 39:00Right?
- 39:00Like, you didn't have the best upbringing.
- 39:03You didn't you weren't equipped with the skills to deal with what you've been through in the
- 39:09first place.
- 39:10So to see you now, you know, sober and and and off of probation very recently.
- 39:16Right?
- 39:17Like, to see you doing those things, I never even got off probation.
- 39:21Right?
- 39:21Like, I just kept on running.
- 39:23I was like, Oregon's like, don't come back.
- 39:24I was like, fucking peace out.
- 39:26Turn it into a shithole anyway.
- 39:28And I I was right, sadly.
- 39:31But, you know, and but, you know, prison was kinda that chapter to me, right, where I I I
- 39:37wasn't gonna run anymore.
- 39:38Right?
- 39:39South Dakota was gonna come get me no matter where I was.
- 39:41They did.
- 39:42And and it allowed me to kind of, finally sit still for two years, right?
- 39:48To just be to be still, to sit with all of those feelings, to sit with all the things that
- 39:53I had done, and to make peace with that man, with that boy, right?
- 39:58So, like, I really grew up in my thirties, right?
- 40:02Being being 30, 31, 32 in a prison cell, you know, in an adult daycare that that is, you
- 40:09know, kind of a medium security prison and just looking around and being like, yeah, this ain't
- 40:14this ain't for me.
- 40:15This this ain't the life that I wanna live.
- 40:18This isn't my kids didn't ask for this.
- 40:20Right?
- 40:21And and thank goodness that they were all young enough to not really they don't remember me
- 40:26being in prison.
- 40:26They wouldn't even know that I had gone if I wasn't honest with them and told them.
- 40:30But I also tell them as a warning, like, look.
- 40:33There's yes.
- 40:33I am a lot stricter on you than my parents were.
- 40:36But my parents were like, no.
- 40:37It's cool.
- 40:37You can smoke weed.
- 40:38No.
- 40:38It's cool to to drink and party, and, like, that was the role models that I was looking up
- 40:43to, and it didn't freaking end well.
- 40:45Right?
- 40:45Exactly.
- 40:46I'm a lot better man and role model for my kids and all the people around me and and to to to
- 40:54give you these lessons in these songs and to deliver them and and especially this whole
- 41:00album man.
- 41:02The this whole five songs that that we've done put together are the embodiment of those
- 41:08lessons, And really, really happy that I got to share them with you guys tonight.
- 41:14It really meant a lot to me.
- 41:15I know, I can see there's a couple people watching on YouTube and shout out to y'all for
- 41:20for joining us.
- 41:21I don't know if you follow the scene projects.
- 41:23If you do, thank you and if you don't, please subscribe to the channel.
- 41:28We love you.
- 41:29We got a great thing going.
- 41:31Our our channel just got onto Roku and Amazon Fire and Apple TV.
- 41:37So, you can find some of our content on those major streaming platforms and I kinda wanted to
- 41:43use this first episode of Love Noise to introduce myself, introduce myself as a
- 41:48songwriter because it would feel wrong to start to bring on all of these, you know, we did 250
- 41:53episodes last year, y'all.
- 41:55So, it would feel wrong to have everyone else on and to not have this pilot episode with my
- 42:02dudes, Wild Willie and Boo Boo here with me to to kind of absorb these and and to be here to
- 42:09share this moment with me.
- 42:10So I really wanna thank you guys for, staying up late on a Wednesday.
- 42:13I don't know if it's late for you.
- 42:14It's late as for me.
- 42:16But, I go was trying to bed at 08:15 when Boo Boo wasn't answering my messages.
- 42:23I was like, I'm done.
- 42:25You might be old, bubba.
- 42:26You might be old.
- 42:28No.
- 42:28Listen.
- 42:29Wanna I wake up at 04:00 in the morning, boo boo, so it rolls around real quick when you
- 42:33don't get to bed early.
- 42:35And listen, bubba, I wanna touch on what you said.
- 42:39Bubba, you need to cherish that.
- 42:42I will tell you.
- 42:44I wish I woulda had that mentoree, mentor relationship.
- 42:50So he's I'm gonna say this, and he's probably gonna get a big head, but I'll deal with that
- 42:56later.
- 42:57But he's actually a pretty one.
- 42:58Gonna be as big as your head, Willie.
- 43:03You're right.
- 43:04You're right.
- 43:05But see, I don't have a big head.
- 43:08It's proportion to my body, so it you just have a smaller body.
- 43:12Okay?
- 43:13But cherish that.
- 43:16I mean, he is actually very knowledgeable.
- 43:19I mean
- 43:20Oh, yeah.
- 43:20He is very smart.
- 43:22I've not known him.
- 43:23Almost everything from him that I know about this industry and everything, and you know I
- 43:29appreciate you.
- 43:31Right, Bubba?
- 43:32I I do.
- 43:33Hey, man.
- 43:34You keep showing up and working for free.
- 43:36That says all I need to know about you and about how you feel about the the the guidance
- 43:42and the, you know, the lessons that I'm trying to bring into you.
- 43:46And and sometimes, you know, it seems like it's about the work, but it's about being a man.
- 43:52Right?
- 43:52And even today, we had a conversation where, you know, in your sometimes the relationship
- 43:59can kinda feel like I'm your boss.
- 44:00Right?
- 44:01And you're looking to me for that, You know?
- 44:03What do I need to do now?
- 44:05And the the conversation we kinda had today was like, look, brother.
- 44:09I'm teaching you all these things so you can stand on your own two feet so I don't have to
- 44:13tell you what to do.
- 44:15You know what needs to be done.
- 44:17Just go do it.
- 44:18Right?
- 44:19And if you screw it up, I'll go fix it.
- 44:21You know?
- 44:22But you gotta be able to to to feel comfortable taking risk and taking chances and going out
- 44:27there on your own and, to have confidence in yourself too that you're going to do it right.
- 44:33Right?
- 44:33Like, I have that confidence in you.
- 44:34I know you're not gonna screw it up.
- 44:35If you put the wrong video up there, then then some of that's on me.
- 44:39Right?
- 44:39I have to take responsibility for that and be like, know what?
- 44:41I didn't tell him not to do those ones, But literally, hey.
- 44:44Who how do I know you're gonna pick the one freaking video out of the two of
- 44:48them?
- 44:48How?
- 44:49That
- 44:50I don't know how I did that.
- 44:53Man, your picker is just broken.
- 44:54We're gonna fix that in your life.
- 44:56We're gonna find you a good woman.
- 44:58We're we're gonna get you settled down here in the next ten years and
- 45:01Woah.
- 45:02Really take it in.
- 45:03But
- 45:03If you're good with finding good woman, I'll take one too.
- 45:06Okay?
- 45:07Well, we'll put it out here on the show.
- 45:09Ladies, both these gentlemen are single.
- 45:12So, you know, actively seeking some real good women in their lives.
- 45:17I know I'm going for now.
- 45:19I gotta stabilize my life first.
- 45:22You both hit, like, online girlfriends, so they ain't, like, in your house trying to screw shit
- 45:27up for you.
- 45:28And that's exactly.
- 45:28You hit on a note that you couldn't be further right.
- 45:32Before you need and I joke around, but before you can even try to get anything else right,
- 45:38you didn't make sure you're right.
- 45:40You know?
- 45:41Not you know, I learned a lot from my past.
- 45:44You know?
- 45:45I used to jump from relationship for the relationship, then I did that and then not
- 45:52proud of it.
- 45:54But the wiser I get, the more gray hairs I get.
- 45:59I'm realizing it's okay to take time.
- 46:02I've been two and a half years and it's okay to work on yourself.
- 46:10But also on what he was talking about, you gotta believe in yourself.
- 46:16There's an old saying, and I don't know who said it, so don't quote me.
- 46:20It's one of my favorite sayings of all time, and the artist an author, I know who it is.
- 46:25I just slip in my mind right now, but it's one person with a belief is equal to a force of 99
- 46:32with just an interest.
- 46:34And that quote tells you how powerful it is to believe in yourself.
- 46:38I'm really starting to with working with you too.
- 46:41You guys are really helping me believe in myself and really helped me, like, take the
- 46:46chance, like, to actually, like I mean, I'm literally because of the confidence that, like,
- 46:51working with you guys have given me, I literally just did a verse on EDM song tonight.
- 46:57Sick.
- 46:57Well, you know what, boo boo?
- 46:59Let that be a, yeah.
- 47:02So we're gonna do boo boo songs next week, boys.
- 47:05I think that's what we need to do is we need to bring in some of boo boo's tracks.
- 47:08And then in week three, Willie, I know you don't perform necessarily, but I I want you to
- 47:13find three tracks, whether it's by one artist or it's just three that mean a lot to you.
- 47:19Obviously, with with your show, I know you got three of those songs and we'll we'll see if we
- 47:25can't get rights rights to some of these things.
- 47:28Maybe find some independent artists that you like that'll that'll let you, borrow their
- 47:33music.
- 47:34But
- 47:35I already have some.
- 47:36I've already have some I've been talking to.
- 47:38Good.
- 47:39Good.
- 47:39Well, yeah, see if see if we can bring a couple of their songs on too.
- 47:42Obviously, we're probably not playing any George Strait on here or something you'd wanna
- 47:46cry to because we don't wanna get sued, and and we don't want these shows to get immediately
- 47:51pulled off because I think they're gonna be really powerful.
- 47:55And, I'm really happy to have shared this moment with you guys and with our fans here on
- 48:01the Scene Projects YouTube.
- 48:02We're gonna do a lot more of this.
- 48:04We're we're gonna be hanging out here every Wednesday.
- 48:07We're gonna bring you love noise.
- 48:08The three of us knuckleheads are gonna get together, and, but we're we're gonna we're
- 48:14gonna razz each other a little bit.
- 48:16We're gonna have a we're gonna listen to some great music.
- 48:19We're gonna talk about how that music makes us feel, and we're gonna have a really great time
- 48:23doing it.
