- 0:04Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Monday,
- 0:16April 13th, 2026. Let's get you caught up. Sacramento
- 0:21police are searching for a student suspected
- 0:23of fatally shooting another student at Natomas
- 0:25High School Friday afternoon. Officers responded
- 0:28just after 3 .30 p .m. to reports of gunfire
- 0:31in the 3200 block of Truxell Road. Authorities
- 0:34say the shooting happened in an open area on
- 0:37campus as classes were being dismissed. The victim,
- 0:41identified as a juvenile, was a student at a
- 0:44nearby school and was pronounced dead at the
- 0:46scene. Investigators say the suspected shooter
- 0:49is a Natomas High School student and remains
- 0:52outstanding. A SWAT team was later seen at a
- 0:55nearby apartment complex where officers went
- 0:57door to door. Family members at the scene were
- 1:00heard urging a possible suspect to surrender.
- 1:04At this point, no motive has been released. The
- 1:08Natomas Unified School District says the victim
- 1:10was a former student of Natomas High School and
- 1:13confirmed the shooting was believed to have been
- 1:15targeted. The district has canceled all weekend
- 1:18events, including a multi - cultural festival
- 1:22and says grief counselors will be available across
- 1:25campuses. They are also increasing security presence
- 1:29this week. In City Watch, plans to improve safety
- 1:35along Stockton Boulevard are moving forward.
- 1:37The city is asking for your input. The community
- 1:40workshop is set for Wednesday. April 15th, that's
- 1:45this Wednesday, from 5 .30 to 7 p .m. as part
- 1:49of the Stockton Boulevard Safety and Transit
- 1:51Enhancement Project, also known as STEP. The
- 1:55corridor is one of Sacramento's busiest connecting
- 1:57neighborhoods, businesses, and major transit
- 2:03routes. But it also has been flagged for ongoing
- 2:07safety concerns, especially for pedestrians,
- 2:09cyclists, and transit riders. City officials
- 2:14are currently studying gaps for lighting, crossings,
- 2:22and overall connectivity. Factors that may be
- 2:26contributing to collisions and accidents and
- 2:30accessibility issues as well. At the workshop,
- 2:33residents can review proposed design concepts,
- 2:36help shape the final plan, and propose upgrades
- 2:40to include safer crossing, improved lighting,
- 2:44expanded bike lanes, and enhanced transit stops
- 2:48with stronger connections to light rail. City
- 2:51leaders say the goal is simple, to build a corridor
- 2:54that works better, safer for all who use it.
