- 0:00They're going to have a ton of money to spend.
- 0:01Why not putting in one of the top three offensive players in
- 0:05the league? We're going to be looking at
- 0:14Aaron George and saying that he can't win the big game, Michael
- 0:17Jordan said. I played 82 games.
- 0:20You don't see the fun doing that.
- 0:22A game where you got to go for four.

- 2:42If you have an umbrella, pull it out.
- 2:44Well, somebody's got to pull it out anyways.
- 2:47A lot to get into tonight. But Speedy, we, we've been back
- 2:50and forth all weekend long. We've been back and forth and
- 2:53text message. I did something on Saturday that
- 2:56I've never done. Do you remember what I did?
- 2:58You did something on Saturday. You never done that.
- 3:00You wrote two stories in one day.
- 3:01And actually, three stories. Actually, three, you're right.
- 3:03Yeah, the other one was past midnight.
- 3:05That's right. So for anybody and everybody
- 3:07that reads my stories, I put a lot of work into it.
- 3:10So I could not sleep Saturday night.
- 3:12I've been dealing with, you know, my own issues when it
- 3:15comes to health. So I'm having a problem
- 3:17sleeping. So I watched 42 for like the
- 3:21100th time in my life and it's one of the best sports movies of
- 3:26all time. I know a lot of people don't
- 3:29really or have not been into baseball movies.
- 3:33As a matter of fact, there are more people into those football
- 3:36movies like Necessary Roughness. Remember that movie or the
- 3:40program? Love that movie as well.
- 3:42Baseball movies besides Field of Dreams or Little Big League
- 3:47League, which was a good movie when I was in, you know, I was
- 3:49young in the 90s, but the movies over the years have not been
- 3:55good in baseball. But when you go back and you
- 3:58look at the Lou Gehrig story, that's also a very good movie
- 4:01from the 50s. And if you have not checked it
- 4:04out, it's a great movie. I forget what they call it.
- 4:06Pride of the Yankees. Yeah.
- 4:08I think I saw that a while ago, so yeah.
- 4:10That was a really good baseball movie, but it's not a lot out
- 4:13there. And it was 61, as they called
- 4:16it. But yeah, the Roger Maris movie,
- 4:20love, you know, obviously everybody that loves Roger
- 4:22Clement, I mean, Roger Clemens, Roger Maris, Roger Clemens.
- 4:26I don't think a lot of people. Are using the Yankees.
- 4:28Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. Everybody knows that race.
- 4:32One of the greatest home run races the Yankees ever had in
- 4:35one season. Mickey Mantle, who's one of the
- 4:38most beloved Yankees of all time.
- 4:40But I got a chance to watch 42. It was late at night, popped on
- 4:43television. Got to watch it in the beginning
- 4:46of the movie. I'm a big Harrison Ford fan, so
- 4:49I I got a chance to really watch in depth because when you watch
- 4:52movies over and over and over again, you just know everything.
- 4:55So you don't pay attention to certain things in the movie.
- 4:58You're doing other things. I've seen this movie a million
- 5:00times. So I'm going to look at my
- 5:02phone, I'm going to be on the computer and I really in depth
- 5:07watch this movie for the first time in it since it's been out.
- 5:11And it's one of the best acting movies for anybody to act a a
- 5:16professional athlete. It was sensational, may rest in
- 5:19peace by the way, but it was a sensational movie and I, I, I
- 5:23wanted to write about it. I never got a chance to write
- 5:25about Jackie Robinson. And it is a great story.
- 5:29It has a lot of back end story behind it.
- 5:32I don't think people understand what Jackie Robinson went
- 5:35through in his career before people started to respect him as
- 5:39a professional baseball player, as a professional athlete.
- 5:42He was the first African Negro player in baseball history.
- 5:48And I think people don't give this story a lot more when it
- 5:54comes to back end stories of baseball and the pride of
- 5:57baseball and where baseball really took off in those times.
- 6:01So I, I love the movie and I, I wanted to put out a story.
- 6:06So that was my first story. Smitty, you remember my second
- 6:09story? Revis Island I believe.
- 6:12That's right. And what was that about?
- 6:14Why Darrelle Revis is a fearsome menace for any whiter seer that
- 6:18ever faced him. Well, it was a quarterback
- 6:20story. Oh yeah, that's true too.
- 6:22Yes. So I wanted to explain why I
- 6:26believe the cornerback position is one of the most important
- 6:28positions in professional football.
- 6:31And I mentioned I believe the top 6, the top five corners in
- 6:36the NFL right now. Patrick Surtain.
- 6:38I know everybody doesn't believe this anymore, but there was a
- 6:41guy on the New York Jets that was traded last season to
- 6:44Indianapolis, Sauce Gardner, who I still think is an elite
- 6:49cornerback. I still think he's a top five
- 6:50corner in the league. Stingley, all those guys, all
- 6:54the guys that really started stuck stuck out over the last
- 6:57three years of the NFL. So I compared them from the past
- 7:01and why the cornerback position is so very important to
- 7:06championship level teams and, and why they stand out from all
- 7:10the rest. If you really look at the
- 7:11positions, the most important positions which we have attacked
- 7:15on this show plenty of times, the offensive line, the
- 7:17offensive tackle, the quarterback position, the
- 7:19defensive line, the DE defensive end, and then obviously the
- 7:23cornerback. So you don't understand it until
- 7:27you really put two and two together.
- 7:28And I, I worked really, really hard on that article and my last
- 7:31article that day was Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano.
- 7:35And I think it was to me something that a lot of people
- 7:38wanted me to put out there for the fans, the UFC fans and, and
- 7:41to tack attack Dana White and for something that I've never
- 7:44done on the show and that's compliment Jake Paul.
- 7:48I really for anybody that didn't check out that story, you're a
- 7:52Jake Paul fan and you want to check out something of that
- 7:56magnitude of, of really comparing and comparing what
- 7:59Jake Paul has done for mixed martial arts and, and boxing.
- 8:03I, I, I don't like what he's done for boxing.
- 8:04He's made it a mockery. I know everybody keeps saying
- 8:06he's helped boxing, but how much has he helped boxing?
- 8:09The way boxing has been portrayed as a, a selling sport
- 8:13in a, in a sport you can buy. But the UFC, these fighters, Jon
- 8:18Jones, Ronda Rousey, a lot of these guys are not making enough
- 8:21money economy. The Conor McGregor who made
- 8:24probably the most money as a professional fighter for the UFC
- 8:27and then finally got his payday when he fought Floyd Mayweather.
- 8:30And then he walked away from mixed martial arts after losing
- 8:33against Justin Poirier, not once but twice, and walked away from
- 8:37mixed martial arts, bought a whiskey company, sold it for
- 8:39$500 million. And he's almost a billionaire.
- 8:42OK. I mean, it's a magical story
- 8:44because probably six or seven years before that he was on
- 8:48welfare and he was a plumber, an assistant plumber and working
- 8:51out in Ireland and nobody even knew who Conor McGregor was.
- 8:54So I, I think when, when you look at these stories, I like to
- 8:58put these stories in perspective.
- 8:59And I like people to really absorb my content and, and, and
- 9:05like what I put out there, either laugh at it.
- 9:07And if anybody that reads my my content knows that it's coming
- 9:11for me because I'm crazy and I have a deluded way of attacking
- 9:15things. So I hope that when people read
- 9:18my stories, they know that there's a lot of work put into
- 9:21it, a lot of love and and comparison to the sports that I
- 9:25talked about. And I hope everybody enjoys it.
- 9:27Anyways. Team USA beat the Dominican
- 9:30Republic 2 to one to advance the World Baseball Classic
- 9:34championship. The Dominican Republic scored
- 9:37first on a home run by Reyes DH I'm sorry Junior Caminero in the
- 9:45second inning. the United States scored both their runs in the
- 9:48fourth inning with Gunner Hernandez I'm sorry Henderson
- 9:52hitting the game tying home run and Roman Anthony hitting the go
- 9:57ahead home run, which Roman Anthony has played pretty good
- 9:59baseball. The youngest player on Team USA,
- 10:02Aaron Judge, also threw out Fernando Tatis junior at third
- 10:06base when he tried to advance following a hit by Katel Katel
- 10:11right Katel Marte. Paul Skeens pitch four and a
- 10:16third innings, allowing just one run and five different relievers
- 10:21combined for four and a third scoreless innings.
- 10:26Mason Miller got the save for the United States on a
- 10:30controversial call on a three and two pitch that appeared to
- 10:34be low, but umpire called it. The umpire called it a strike
- 10:38for strike three. the United States will now face the winner
- 10:41of tonight's semifinals between Italy, Italy and Venezuela.
- 10:47I'm going to tell you guys something now.
- 10:50Everybody wants to see Team USA versus Japan.
- 10:54That's what everybody was looking forward to, Otani versus
- 10:57Judge, and we're not going to see it.
- 11:00We're not. It's not going to happen.
- 11:02And we'll get into that a little bit later in the show.
- 11:04I'm sure a lot of people have their thoughts to what happens
- 11:07to Japan. It happens when you're facing
- 11:11off talented teams and baseball, professional baseball players.
- 11:15And maybe Venezuela is not as good as Japan.
- 11:18Well, obviously they're not with the star power that Japan has
- 11:21brought to the major leagues. And the same thing goes to
- 11:24Italy. Italy was never expected to be
- 11:27Team USA in the final game to advance into the semis and the
- 11:32quarterfinals. Nobody thought Italy was going
- 11:36to be Team USA. And they went up 8 to nothing.
- 11:38And then USA had to play catch up.
- 11:40And finally at the end of the game, they couldn't put up the
- 11:43eight runs to tie the game and United States lost in nine
- 11:46innings. And a lot of people were blaming
- 11:50Mark De Rosa on not knowing why or explaining why he didn't play
- 11:56three of his best players because he thought they're
- 12:00automatically going to make it to the quarters.
- 12:05Now, you look at a coach and, and a manager or whatever, you
- 12:09want to look at executives, you want to look at your pointing
- 12:12fingers, that's fine. And I, I've, I've been out there
- 12:15to speak my piece about Mark DeRosa.
- 12:17I think Mark DeRosa is a hell of a coach, hell of a manager.
- 12:20I think he's as good as anybody right now in the majors.
- 12:24You're going to make mistakes. People make mistakes.
- 12:28You wouldn't be human if you weren't.
- 12:31And he made a mistake. He didn't hide behind it.
- 12:34He didn't throw anybody under the bus.
- 12:36And you like that when you hear that from a manager that you
- 12:39respect and a guy that has been chosen by Team USA Baseball to
- 12:43lead this team to the promised land.
- 12:45And that's to win, to win the whole thing.
- 12:50And then going into Sunday night, United States beating
- 12:54Canada on Friday, knocking off a Canadian team that fought their
- 12:58way just like Mexico did. It wasn't easy.
- 13:05It hasn't been easy for Team USA.
- 13:08As good as these, as good as the line up is for Team USA, as good
- 13:14as the pitching, when you look at the the star power, Paul
- 13:17Skeens. Paul Skeens is one of the best
- 13:21pitchers, if not the best pitcher in baseball.
- 13:24Before this tournament start, they had it.
- 13:26They had Tarek Skubal. This is a good roster, but
- 13:35baseball is not won by good rosters.
- 13:39How many great teams in the past didn't win a World Series?
- 13:43How many great teams have not won Stanley Cups?
- 13:47How many great teams have not won the Lombardi Trophy?
- 13:52You go into these championships and you're competing in these
- 13:56games, these round Robin games, you don't know how it's going to
- 13:59work. That's why the Olympics is so
- 14:01incredibly fun to watch, why it was so incredibly fun to watch
- 14:05Team USA knock off of Canada, not only in the men's but in the
- 14:08women's. When you watch this competition,
- 14:14you look forward to seeing some of the great players.
- 14:18Seeing Juan Soto, Vladimir Guerrero, Junior Tatis, all
- 14:25these guys. It's been fun to watch and this
- 14:30is great for baseball. This shouldn't be an All Star
- 14:33game every single year. Baseball should put something,
- 14:38not the WBC, but put something together where some of the best
- 14:43teams, some of the best players in their countries play in a
- 14:48round Robin tournament. That would be fun to watch.
- 14:53Look what happened with the NHL last year.
- 14:56Look how that worked for Gary Bettman.
- 14:59Gary Bettman looked like a genius and it changed everything
- 15:05for the Olympics because Team USA lost against Team Canada in
- 15:08the finals. Connor McDavid scores the
- 15:11game-winning goal and Team USA smelled blood.
- 15:17They went into the Olympics looking at a completely
- 15:19different We need to go out there.
- 15:21We need to win a gold medal. We haven't won in 46 years.
- 15:24And that goes for Team USA Baseball.
- 15:26This is not the dream team. I don't want to hear it about
- 15:30the 92 Olympic basketball team with Michael Jordan, Magic
- 15:35Johnson, Larry Bird, Karl Malone, John Stockton, David
- 15:40Robertson, Christian Leitner. I had to add that one.
- 15:46I had to add that one. It's different and I wrote a
- 15:53story this weekend about it. I didn't call him the Dream
- 15:57team. I kind of compare them to the
- 16:00Redeem team, the team that had to come back, the team that
- 16:07before they added Kobe Bryant to LeBron James and those
- 16:12superstars to to come back after losing and only bringing home a
- 16:17bronze medal. Do you remember that?
- 16:20But Stefan Marbury and Allen Iverson and Tim Duncan on that
- 16:24roster, Dwight Howard, they failed.
- 16:29Carmelo Anthony, they failed to win a gold medal.
- 16:34Kobe Bryant put it on his shoulders to go into the
- 16:40Olympics and help Team USA bring home gold.
- 16:44Wasn't LeBron, wasn't Dwyane Wade.
- 16:46They were there. Wasn't Chris Bosh.
- 16:50It was Kobe Bryant. May rest in peace.
- 16:55Aaron Judge is 34 years old. Mark DeRosa was recruiting
- 17:02players. I don't know if anybody's heard
- 17:06the Logan, the Logan story. You know the Logan story,
- 17:10Speedy. You know the Logan story.
- 17:12I don't. Now there are a lot of country
- 17:19fans out there. So Mark DeRosa, Pat McAfee and
- 17:28all of them, they, they're all friends.
- 17:31They're all good friends with one another.
- 17:32And they weren't. Well, Mark DeRosa was not on the
- 17:36bus, but he was at the concert. He had his guys go on the same
- 17:41bus as Logan and Logan had no interest in pitching for Team
- 17:48USA, No interest. Maybe because of San Francisco
- 17:55and and getting his big contract, I don't know what it
- 17:57was, but he had no interest. Pat McAfee and a bunch of, I
- 18:05guess, United States execs and and friends, they were on that
- 18:10bus and they pitched Logan to come and pitch for Team USA
- 18:17Baseball for the WBC. It took a lot.
- 18:20It took a lot of push and drive. And he's one of the big
- 18:25important reasons why Team USA is going to the championship
- 18:28this year. He has been as good as any
- 18:31pitcher for Team USA. He's been clutch throughout this
- 18:34tournament. But Aaron Judge, he's 34 years
- 18:38old. He did not have to play for Team
- 18:40USA. He did not have to be the
- 18:41captain of this team. He just, he just fell in the in
- 18:48the playoffs against the Blue Jays the year before he lost in
- 18:51the World Series against the the Dodgers.
- 18:54He's got another probably 4 good years left in the majors to win
- 18:58in his first World Series and his only maybe his only World
- 19:01Series. Think about this, he did not
- 19:07have to play for Team USA and and by the way, he's not only
- 19:11the heart and soul of this team, he has done things in in this
- 19:15tournament that are going to be remembered forever.
- 19:21And I don't know if anybody watched the game I did that
- 19:26throw when Tatis was trying to go from 2nd to 3rd and how he
- 19:31picked him off at third base. Everybody was talking about,
- 19:36well, Aaron Judge is a great player, 5 tool.
- 19:39I don't know. He's not.
- 19:40I don't know if he's A5 tool player.
- 19:43Aaron Judge showed you guys or everybody, why not only is he A5
- 19:47tool player, he's the best player in the world, The best
- 19:51player in the world. Everybody's going to say Shayo
- 19:54Atani. Oh, he's a freak, A Unicorn.
- 19:57Whatever they call them, I don't care what they Everybody's a
- 20:00Unicorn in professional sports now.
- 20:02Everybody gives them that that compliment.
- 20:04You know you're always not a Unicorn, Travis Hunter.
- 20:06That's that's for sure. But what Aaron Judge did in the
- 20:12third inning will be remembered. If Team USA brings home the
- 20:17gold, they win this tournament as they call themselves the
- 20:21Dream Team, or I call them the Redeem Team.
- 20:24That play is going to be remembered more than anything
- 20:28because if Tatis gets to third base, he probably scores and
- 20:33maybe the game is completely different.
- 20:37And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Aaron Judge is the best
- 20:40player in the world. It's the smallest and the
- 20:46littlest things that happened in the game that stands out the
- 20:48biggest. This is a 6 foot eight, 280 LB
- 20:53powerhouse hitter that when he came into the league people
- 20:58didn't think he was going to hit for average.
- 21:02People didn't struck out a lot and AAA and AA.
- 21:06He didn't get into the majors until late 2425 years old.
- 21:10Lot of people thought, hey, he reminds me of a little bit
- 21:14better of a done type of player. Well, he is a different player.
- 21:17He might go down as one of the greatest Yankees to ever play
- 21:20the game. That's crazy when you talk about
- 21:22Derek Jeter, who has been the stand out the face of New York
- 21:26Yankees baseball for over 20 years and to name Aaron Judge,
- 21:33the captain of this team has not only driven this organization,
- 21:39everybody says, well, it's what does he want?
- 21:41He hasn't won a championship. That has a lot to do with the
- 21:46executives over there. Brian Cashman, Hal Steinburn
- 21:50opening up his pockets like like his father did.
- 21:53That is not Aaron Judge's fault. Aaron Judge goes out there every
- 21:57single year. He gives you almost fifty home
- 21:59runs. He has been as consistent as any
- 22:03player in baseball in the last four years.
- 22:06Even when he hurt his toe, he came back and he played at a
- 22:09high level. That says a lot about who he is
- 22:13as a player, as a leader, and you want to follow a man like
- 22:19that. And we have guys like Gunner
- 22:21Henderson and Roman Anthony and Paul Skins.
- 22:27The future of United States baseball.
- 22:30That, ladies and gentlemen, stands out from the rest.
- 22:34I don't want to hear about. Hey, you know what?
- 22:37United States isn't killing everybody.
- 22:38This team is unbelievable. They should be getting 15 or 16
- 22:42or 17 runs every single game. It doesn't matter if it's the
- 22:46the Dominican Republic or Japan. We have our best players on the
- 22:49field. When you're playing a round
- 22:54Robin and you look at these games and the competition that's
- 22:57out there, it's not as easy as it seems.
- 23:02And as far as I'm concerned, for all you fans out there that have
- 23:05their own thoughts or after after thoughts to who Aaron
- 23:09Judge is and you don't want to give this guy any respect for
- 23:14what he has done for baseball, shame on you.
- 23:17Shame on you because this man has been nothing.
- 23:23Nothing but a Good Samaritan for the game of baseball.
- 23:27He doesn't go out there and throw anybody on the bus.
- 23:29He didn't throw Mark DeRosa under the bus after the mistakes
- 23:33that he made against Team Italy. He hasn't done any of that.
- 23:39He stuck up for Mark DeRosa. He stuck up for Aaron Boone over
- 23:42the last couple years. Why do you think Aaron Boone
- 23:44still has a job for the New York Yankees?
- 23:49This man has been everything to United States baseball and
- 23:56Yankee fans. I say this to all the Giant
- 23:58fans. When Eli Manning was going to
- 24:00step down and he was going to walk away from New York Giants
- 24:05football, I told the Giant fans, I said you don't realize how
- 24:08important he is until he's gone. As a Jet fan, we don't know
- 24:12anything about it. I mean, we're looking at Geno
- 24:15Smith again. Hopefully a second time around
- 24:19will be better. Justin Fields was traded.
- 24:23We'll get into that a little bit later in the show.
- 24:27The fact here is the reason why I bring this up and everybody
- 24:30looks at the score and they look at the two one and what?
- 24:33United States got lucky? That wasn't a strike.
- 24:36Who cares? First of all, the bases were
- 24:42cleared. There was nobody on base.
- 24:45Even if he walked them, what does that mean?
- 24:49It was 2 outs. Is that the reason why the
- 24:52Dominican Republic lost against Team USA in nine innings?
- 24:58That's not the reason why It's not.
- 25:02If the Dominican Republic wanted to win the game, they had to put
- 25:06on put up runs and they couldn't.
- 25:08They couldn't hit against Paul Skins.
- 25:10They had one home run. They had one big hit against
- 25:13Paul Skins, and that's why Paul Skins is the best pitcher.
- 25:16That's why he's going to be the highest paid pitcher in baseball
- 25:19in the next 5 to 6 years. The guy's going to make almost a
- 25:22billion dollars. The man is so impressive and he
- 25:29doesn't have more than 3 or 4 pitches.
- 25:30He got like 5 pitches and he's unhittable.
- 25:36And when you think about the back end of baseball, America's
- 25:41pastime, and everybody says, well, Japan has conquered
- 25:45baseball over the last couple of years and the Dominican Republic
- 25:48have the biggest stars. When you have guys like Vladimir
- 25:53Guerrero Junior, who was unbelievable in the playoffs
- 25:56last year, unbelievable. Juan Soto has has been so good
- 26:02in the playoffs, one of the best.
- 26:05You have two players that good the big important game, and I've
- 26:10done it in big, important games and failed to do it against
- 26:15United States baseball. You're going to blame that on
- 26:20anybody? You're going to blame that on
- 26:23Team USA or the umpire because they missed a strike.
- 26:27Are you going to tell me that the umpire is American and
- 26:30that's why that happened? It was very impressive.
- 26:37And, and, and I, I, if I was a United States player and I, I
- 26:41was lucky to get into the quarterfinals because they were
- 26:42lucky. Italy really, really saved the
- 26:48United States from absolute smack around because if the
- 26:52United States don't get into the quarterfinals, they'll be the
- 26:58they'd probably be the laughing stock of Major League Baseball
- 27:02all season long. And I don't care what anybody
- 27:05says, Bryce Harper says, you know, it's baseball.
- 27:08This, this happens. I don't want to hear it because
- 27:10Bryce Harper knows, Paul Skeens knows, Aaron Judge knows that
- 27:17United States baseball is not at the top level.
- 27:20It's been over the last 50-60 years.
- 27:23It's not Countries are getting close.
- 27:28Successful superstar players are coming from all different parts
- 27:32of the world and the Dominican Republic in Japan are only two
- 27:37places that there are development of great talent.
- 27:42Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Italy, Mexico.
- 27:52It's growing just like basketball, just like football,
- 27:56just like hockey. And when you look at United
- 28:00States baseball now, if they can come out winning this tournament
- 28:05and they're going to, it's not going to be easy.
- 28:06I don't care if it's Venezuela or it's Italy and you want
- 28:11Italy. If you're an American, you want
- 28:13Italy. You want them because of what
- 28:18Italy did, almost knocking out the United States out of this
- 28:22tournament. I know for a fact Aaron Judge
- 28:25and this team wants to see Italy in the finals because they want
- 28:30to put a spanking on them and that's what you want to see.
- 28:34Those are stories. What do you think Team USA
- 28:37wanted to do in the Olympics? When the Olympics started, they
- 28:41wanted to play Team Canada in the finals and knock them off.
- 28:45They're the powerhouse. They're known as the best in the
- 28:48world and unbeatable. That roster, everybody said was
- 28:51unbeatable. We all know what happened in the
- 28:56in the 1980s. That was the last Time Team USA
- 28:59won a gold medal in hockey, knocking off the Soviet Union.
- 29:04Miracle. Remember that.
- 29:08This isn't like that. Nobody's comparing them to the
- 29:11Dream Team miracle or even the Olympic team that happened this
- 29:15past last couple of weeks. Nobody's going to compare it to
- 29:20Jack Hughes's golden goal, as you're seeing on the screen
- 29:25right now. Thank you, Fish.
- 29:28The fact here right now is this is the year of Team USA.
- 29:35This is where we take over sports.
- 29:38Again, it's been a big problem. I'm sorry, over the last couple
- 29:46of years we we've been dominant in basketball.
- 29:48There's no question. There's no question, but it's
- 29:51getting close. Look at the top three players
- 29:53right now in the NBA. They're not United States
- 29:56players. They're just not actually, the
- 29:58top four players are not United States players.
- 30:02You can argue maybe the top five are United States players.
- 30:06It's crazy. It's growing.
- 30:10But what hockey brings and baseball has brought and what
- 30:15sports is starting to drive now here in the United States, This
- 30:20is what as a United States, USA stand out.
- 30:25A person that my whole life respected the red, white and
- 30:30blue. And I, I know everybody sits
- 30:32here and they're probably saying, oh, this is somebody
- 30:34that's just reading off a reading off a storyline and
- 30:37stuff like that's not me. If you listen to the show, I
- 30:41don't beat around the Bush. Well, sometimes I do, if you
- 30:44know what I mean, sometimes. But I, I, I'm not beating around
- 30:49a Bush here. I'm a fan of professional
- 30:54sports. I'm a fan of college sports.
- 30:56I'm a fan of high school sports. And when you see some of the
- 31:03best players in the world compete against one another and
- 31:07then win tournaments or win series or games when people
- 31:14counted you out. And I'm telling you, there are a
- 31:19lot of people that don't believe the United States is the
- 31:23dominant, dominant force of professional baseball anymore.
- 31:27How do I know this? I put a survey up on my social
- 31:32media the other day and I asked strictly, who do you think is
- 31:38the most dominant countries in professional baseball?
- 31:46And you know what the two dominant countries over the
- 31:47United States was the Dominican Republic and Japan with all the
- 31:54talent, the United States abroad over the last 20 years, the
- 32:01superstars of the majors besides Aaron Judge, they've all washed
- 32:09away. Nobody looks.
- 32:10I mean, Paul Schemes is becoming a superstar, but he's still
- 32:13young. But if you look at the top ten
- 32:15players right now, the majors, I would tell you right now, seven
- 32:19of them are not American players, 7 of them.
- 32:26And that's why when you look at the game and you look at the
- 32:30difference of what this game and what this tournament means to
- 32:35United States and USA Baseball, it's more than anybody believes
- 32:40it should be and what it could be.
- 32:42Yeah. It's one of those things where
- 32:44you look at these super team labels over the years that we've
- 32:47seen in other sports and baseball definitely was
- 32:49certainly one of them. You've seen the Dodgers have all
- 32:51these super teams in the past that joked in the first round of
- 32:53the playoffs. That was the ongoing joke for a
- 32:55while. They didn't win since 1988.
- 32:56And then same kind of thing on an international level too, with
- 32:58the US and the and the Dream Team, like they could have very
- 33:01easily lost the gold medal game in 2024 against France.
- 33:04France played them very well up into that point.
- 33:06So everything like that has a sense of a diversity that's
- 33:09necessary. Did they obviously get lucky
- 33:11backing in with a little getting help from Italy?
- 33:13Yeah, sure. But at the same time, you can't
- 33:16just be an all talent driven team and try to make that kind
- 33:18of thing work without a a sense of adversity.
- 33:20And that's the same kind of thing with somebody like Aaron
- 33:23Judge. Aaron Judge has magnified well,
- 33:24he hasn't been hitting greatly outside of the early stages of
- 33:27the tournament, but that throw is a game changing play against
- 33:30somebody as fast as Fernando Tatis, who definitely could have
- 33:33scored on an infield hit or a sacrifice fly if he makes it a
- 33:36third base, maybe skins out of the game at that point.
- 33:38There's a lot of factors that go into that and I agree with you
- 33:41when it comes to the umpiring thing.
- 33:43Yeah. Was the pitch a ball?
- 33:45Yeah, it probably was, but there's going to be other calls
- 33:47like that too. We're going to have Phil Kazi on
- 33:48in about an hour and he's going to say there's no umpire.
- 33:52That's going to be completely perfect when it comes to those
- 33:54calls. And you look at the way that
- 33:57international versus US umpires and that stuff like that, this
- 34:00could be like that. The whole tournament, every
- 34:01international event is going to be like that.
- 34:04And there's not going to be this drastic bias.
- 34:06Like we were talking about the Olympics with the whole figure
- 34:08skating scandal. It wasn't like that.
- 34:10It wasn't like this drastic judgment difference.
- 34:13That was a pitch that probably was a ball.
- 34:15Yeah, but you can't blame it on that one call when the United
- 34:19States definitely had some against them as well.
- 34:21So I think you look at this U.S. team now going forward, though,
- 34:25you do have a good sense of your other guys being able to do it.
- 34:28Paul Skeen's got, I mean, he wasn't going to pitch obviously
- 34:31a normal length like a Major League game.
- 34:32But those bullpen guys are unsung heroes compared to like
- 34:35the rest of this quote UN quote super team.
- 34:36This dream team, as your boy AJ Burzynski likes to call it, and
- 34:41those those five relievers. You calling him my boy?
- 34:44That was sarcasm. But you called him a dream team
- 34:48and these relievers, not the starters that the starters were
- 34:51getting all the flashy hype. It was the relievers that came
- 34:53through in that game against the Dominican Republic offense.
- 34:55That was the best offense throughout the tournament.
- 34:58And that's why you're saying you can't just rely on talent as it
- 35:00is now. Obviously, we questioned the
- 35:02pitching with the Dominican Republic and Luis Severino until
- 35:04that 4th inning actually looks pretty good.
- 35:06But you knew that offense was going to cool off and the United
- 35:09States did a good job of just pitching and staying focused on
- 35:12that kind of thing. And Mark DeRosa, whatever
- 35:15everyone was slandering that week, last week, has to get some
- 35:18credit for that for getting them to reset and just be
- 35:20concentrating on their own game. Now, again, in baseball, it's
- 35:23harder because there's a lot of individual factors that can't be
- 35:26controlled with everything because again, A2 hitter is not
- 35:29going to have a direct impact on A5 hitter and so forth.
- 35:32But you still have to have that kind of sense of camaraderie
- 35:35with your team. It's still an Ultimate Team
- 35:37sport with a lot of uncontrollable factors.
- 35:39In the US did all the little things when the Dominican
- 35:41Republic was the more talented team.
- 35:43The whole way the US show they were still the more talented
- 35:45team and focused. And, and again, if if you're a
- 35:49fan of professional baseball and if you're not a fan of
- 35:53professional baseball, these are the kind of tournaments you
- 35:55watch even if you're not a baseball fan because you get a
- 35:58chance to see the best in the world.
- 35:59You get to see the chance to watch Aaron Judge and Otani and
- 36:04and Soto and Guerrero get a chance to play at a top level
- 36:08with their peers and their teammates or even guys that you
- 36:12probably never get a chance to see play with one another in any
- 36:15part of their careers because they're they're such great
- 36:18players. They're not getting traded or
- 36:20they're going to be with that organization for the rest of
- 36:22their careers. So that's what's fun to watch
- 36:24when it comes to these tournaments and getting a chance
- 36:26to see the competition at a high level.
- 36:28You know, that's one thing to enjoy, but if you're like a team
- 36:32that has like a big country behind you, like the United
- 36:34States, I don't know if everybody's into the WBC like I
- 36:37wish they were. I know I'm into it.
- 36:39I know we're into it, like what following it on the show.
- 36:42But I don't know if it's like how Venezuela is, how the Dr. is
- 36:47and how those fan bases have been brought together.
- 36:48But think about what's going on in Japan right now.
- 36:50The Japanese lost in the quarterfinals in so they played
- 36:55their first couple around in their pool games in Japan, but
- 36:58then they played in Miami and they lost.
- 37:01Was it to Venezuela? Right.
- 37:03So Venezuela moves on and they're playing in Italy
- 37:05tonight. They had an issue where the
- 37:08entirety of Japan tried to cancel Netflix because they were
- 37:13forced to buy the games that for the WBC through Netflix.
- 37:17It was free in 2023. So now like the entire country
- 37:21lost their mind. They're blaming the pitcher
- 37:23because they everyone had to pay 20 bucks to only watch one game
- 37:26where they were upset. This horrible thing.
- 37:29Ohtani was great. You know, he had 460 and had
- 37:33three homers. Yamamoto was good.
- 37:36He got hit, hit the first inning.
- 37:37He was in there in that game. But they he left with the lead
- 37:405:00 to 2:00. They're getting killed in Japan.
- 37:43The whole country team. That guy's not going to be able
- 37:45to coach again for that national team.
- 37:47As bad as I was worried about Derosa after they lost to Italy,
- 37:50imagine that times a million for what's going on in Japan right
- 37:53now. It's, it's incredible when you
- 37:56lose, you're going to be looking at the bad guy.
- 37:59You're going to be attacked by everybody, a country, an
- 38:02organization. And and that's what Japan
- 38:05baseball is. It's it's, it's an organization
- 38:07that they built their product through superstar players.
- 38:11Yamamoto, Otani, Sasaki, all these guys.
- 38:14And in the past, you had the Godzilla and we all know Matsui
- 38:17and all the guys that we've seen come into the league Nomo,
- 38:21they're they're superstar after superstar and player after
- 38:25player. When you look at all the
- 38:26different great players from Japan and then you look at what
- 38:31has happened when it came to this tournament and, and again,
- 38:35this is what happens. You're even though you're
- 38:38expected to win and you're supposed to be in the finals.
- 38:40You've been dominant in the WBC for the last I, I would say the
- 38:45last five years you've fund three of them.
- 38:47Well, it's not five years every three years.
- 38:49So every every three years you have won three out of the last
- 38:53five, which you've been dominant.
- 38:56You've been as good as you should be as a professional
- 39:00bunch of baseball players. And, and Otani, he made his name
- 39:04in these tournaments, the WBC. Otani wasn't in the major
- 39:07leagues when he first played in the WBC.
- 39:10He was seen in the WBC. And then same thing with
- 39:13Yamamoto. They all were seen in the WBC.
- 39:19And that's how they got their big contracts.
- 39:20And that's where they move from international baseball to
- 39:24National Baseball. It's different now.
- 39:30The best players want to come to America and play against the
- 39:32best, but those best players don't believe America is the
- 39:36best. They believe they're the best.
- 39:40And that is why this tournament as is as important to Team USA
- 39:46than it has been for any of these countries.
- 39:51Italy's making a statement. They're making a statement now.
- 39:57A lot of these guys are not Italian, They're not from Italy.
- 40:01They're Italian Americans, their families are from Italy or their
- 40:05great grandparents are from Italy, and they're playing in
- 40:08this tournament because there's no way Team USA is going to take
- 40:10them on. They're nowhere close to the top
- 40:12players in baseball. But when you go out there and
- 40:18play like a team and believe anything's possible,
- 40:23professional sports is all about competition.
- 40:26Sports is all about competition. That's why I love watching it.
- 40:32Everybody asked me, why are you a sports fan?
- 40:34Not because I was an athlete, because I was.
- 40:36I was a good athlete. But that's not why I love the
- 40:38game. That's not why I love sports.
- 40:40I love sports because I love competition.
- 40:45I love when I see the Cinderella team knock off the championship
- 40:52team, the team that's expected to win.
- 40:55Boxing is so fun. Well, it used to be fun to
- 40:58watch. Not anymore.
- 40:59Prize fighting isn't prize fighting anymore.
- 41:02But if you're a boxing or a mixed martial arts fan, the game
- 41:06has transitioned and you would have thought, like, remember
- 41:10when the UFC came out, most of the top end fighters are from
- 41:15the United States. Besides the Gray season
- 41:17Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, they were from the USA.
- 41:21The best fighters in the world are not from the United States.
- 41:25They're just not. You know why?
- 41:29Because it's become international.
- 41:32And that's the same thing with baseball.
- 41:35It was American sport, America sport.
- 41:37It's not that anymore. And I'm going to tell you this
- 41:39right now, even though everybody says there's no way
- 41:43international football is going to come to the NFL, that's
- 41:47wrong. It's going to happen.
- 41:49The NF LS making that happen. You're going to tell me there's
- 41:52not going to be an international football team in the NFL.
- 41:56It's going to happen. It is.
- 41:59Even though everybody says it's impossible because of the the
- 42:02times and the changes, it's not going to make a difference.
- 42:08It's going to happen. You could argue it, you can cry
- 42:12about it. It's going to happen.
- 42:15Sports is open for money, advertisers, sponsors,
- 42:21networking. Networking International is
- 42:25going to bring money and more money to the sport and that's
- 42:31where it is right now in Japan. Why do you think Ohtani took
- 42:34deferred money? Why ask me that?
- 42:39Riddle me this as I used it on the last show.
- 42:43Here's the reason why. Because no matter what, that $70
- 42:47million is $100 million at the end of this year.
- 42:51Why? Because he's an international
- 42:54superstar. The sponsors, the advertisements
- 42:58this man is making right now, that money's not going to itch
- 43:01the surface to bother him when the game transitions.
- 43:07And it's going to happen. AI artificial intelligence is
- 43:14going to be a part of the game in the very near future. 10
- 43:18years from now, artificial intelligence is going to be a
- 43:21part of it. So is Nick Goody going to be,
- 43:22and they'll be commissioner at that point?
- 43:24Hopefully we love you, good, we love you, but it's not going to
- 43:27happen right away. But it's going to, when that
- 43:31happens, players, international players are not going to be as
- 43:36impressive as all this AI technology that's going to drive
- 43:41the sport, drive the game, maybe bring in robotic simulators into
- 43:46the game. That's going to change it.
- 43:48Maybe you're not going to see pictures anymore.
- 43:50You can have robots throwing the ball.
- 43:51I don't know. I don't know how it's going to
- 43:53work, but that could happen. The game is changing.
- 43:58Sports is changing, athletes are changing.
- 44:02Everybody says, oh, Michael Jordan couldn't play in the game
- 44:05now, which I think is absolutely bogus.
- 44:07It's ridiculous. It's a ridiculous take.
- 44:09But guess what? The competition in the training,
- 44:13in the facilities that they have now are way better than they
- 44:16were in the 80s and the 90s, Way better.
- 44:19The athletes are running. Look at the combine, you got
- 44:22£350 guys running 4 eights. It's ridiculous.
- 44:27They're running it faster than I can and I'm like 2200 and 5 lbs.
- 44:33I, I can't run a 48 anymore. Maybe when I was younger I can
- 44:37run faster than that. I can't do it now.
- 44:39These guys, they're £350, they're 150 lbs heavier than me
- 44:43and they can run it faster than me.
- 44:46It's unbelievable. The training, the facilities,
- 44:49everything. And Baseball international.
- 44:52Remember in Puerto Rico 20 years ago, they were playing without
- 44:56cleats. They were playing in there with
- 44:57their feet. Anybody know who Daddy Yankee
- 45:03is? Daddy Yankee was a great
- 45:07baseball player. He's a, he's a rapper or Spanish
- 45:12rapper, reggaeton. That's what they that's what
- 45:16he's known for. He's one of the best in the
- 45:18industry. He has been one of the best in
- 45:21the industry for a very long time.
- 45:24He was a great baseball player. You know what ruined his career?
- 45:28He got shot. Daddy Yankee got shot, got shot
- 45:32in the back, couldn't play baseball anymore.
- 45:40His career was over and he took his career to another sector
- 45:44which became a national voice in in music changed, break it tone
- 45:51changed music. I mean, there's no Bad Bunny
- 45:54without Daddy Yankee. See what I'm getting at?
- 45:59Music changes, it evolves. Sports evolves, it's different
- 46:07and no matter how it's changed or the way it's changed, it's
- 46:10going to change. Fans, everybody out there, you
- 46:15want to, you want to doubt me on my arguments to this.
- 46:18I'm not going to sit here and read off a clip paper that
- 46:21somebody's going to give me, my producer is going to give me.
- 46:24This is coming from my own brain, my own take, my own
- 46:26thought. It's changing and you're not
- 46:31going to see guys like Aaron Judge forever.
- 46:35They'll they'll be prototypes. These guys don't grow.
- 46:40They don't grow on trees. They're not, they're humans.
- 46:44So when you get a chance to watch greatness, ladies and
- 46:47gentlemen, love it, respect it and just root for it.
- 46:55And that's what I that's that was my that's my whole take to
- 46:57this guys. And as as a fan of professional
- 47:01sports, especially baseball, I've, I've been a baseball fan
- 47:03my whole life. I grew up a Don Mattingly fan, a
- 47:05Yankee fan. I my first pair of clothes
- 47:09leaving the hospital, Port Jefferson Hospital, was a Yankee
- 47:14pyjama with Don Mattingly's name on the back of it. 1982.
- 47:22Growing up, he was my favorite player.
- 47:24Not because it was my first pyjamas, not because not because
- 47:30he was the best player on the New York Yankees, is because he
- 47:33stood for something. He was the captain, he was the
- 47:37leader. And even though he never won a
- 47:40title, he never won a title with New York, never won a title as a
- 47:44manager. Yet he was with the Blue Jays
- 47:46last year, still haven't won. He was won, and still is one of
- 47:51the most beloved Yankees of all time.
- 47:54Yeah, I also want to comment on the international side of it
- 47:56too. When you look at some of these
- 47:58baseball leagues, a lot of these professional leagues that start
- 48:00younger too. I think that's why Aaron Judge
- 48:02was even saying like a lot of these WBC crowds are much
- 48:04stronger than we ever saw at a Major League game is because a
- 48:08lot of these players have been followed for a very long time.
- 48:10And you were talking about it like a lot of these, a lot of
- 48:12these leagues started up in leagues that were very poor
- 48:16areas. Cuba, another example that we
- 48:18didn't list, they have a lot of those types of leagues over
- 48:21there and obviously everything political going on over there,
- 48:23it's harder for them to get the types of resources that you see
- 48:27in the United States or even in Mexico or stuff like that.
- 48:30And same kind of thing with all these other island nations, Like
- 48:32a lot of those times are just followed for a long time.
- 48:34Even the names that aren't like the big names yet are known for
- 48:38a long time with a lot of those countries as well.
- 48:40And the same kind of thing with Japan too.
- 48:41A lot of those Japanese guys are in that professional league for
- 48:44a while. So they're followed closely and
- 48:46they have these connections that work out well.
- 48:48And maybe that's why they're just getting all this
- 48:50unfortunate backlash that you're describing Fish, these relievers
- 48:53and these these coaches. It's it's basically to the level
- 48:56that you see in European football that all these like hot
- 48:59head fans want to just take take them down just because of that.
- 49:01And you see this during the World Cup.
- 49:03We've seen this in the soccer leagues.
- 49:04All these coaches are going to get the I guess the protest
- 49:07treatment that you're seeing at something at that level.
- 49:10And now you're seeing it like you're saying, Errol, with the
- 49:13United States kind of fusing these international cultures
- 49:16together and all these other sports with baseball, with the
- 49:18NBA just getting really stronger at a higher level than we ever
- 49:22saw before internationally. The NH LS always had that kind
- 49:25of thing because they've embraced the the Russian
- 49:27players, the Swedish fin finish, etcetera, post the Cold War.
- 49:30But now you're seeing it a lot more with baseball, definitely,
- 49:33and even higher in basketball where, like you said, the top
- 49:36four players in the NBA, Yokich, Luka, Yanis, SGA, whatever
- 49:39argument you want to make, Wendy, they're all international
- 49:42players. They're not.
- 49:43They're not US board. So it's crazy to think that the
- 49:45melting pot is really fusing together more.
- 49:48I Before we move on, I do have to say I'm only a quarter
- 49:52Italian, but I'm loving every single bit of this Team Italy
- 49:56business with the taking the shots of espresso after homers,
- 49:59this camaraderie, Francisco Cervelli, the manager over
- 50:03there, as I, I haven't seen a single person who isn't super on
- 50:09board with what team Team Italy's done.
- 50:12Even though there aren't really, you know, Italian Italians
- 50:15there. It's, it's a great thing for
- 50:17Italian Americans. The fact they're gone this far.
- 50:20It's hard to not root for them until tomorrow night.
- 50:23Which begs the question, Errol USA winning this?
- 50:26Or is this going to be a pretty bad choke job because they
- 50:30should beat either one of these teams?
- 50:32I will say this, if Tim Team Italy plays the United States in
- 50:37the finals, I think they're going to absolutely destroy
- 50:39them. There is no way they're going to
- 50:41let this team breathe, get an early lead.
- 50:44I expect Team USA to go hard and hard at them early in the game.
- 50:48I I expect their big boppers to bop that ball and smack that
- 50:53ball around. This, this, this could be an
- 50:55absolute demonstration of why Team USA is one of the best
- 51:00baseball organizations, baseball products in in, in international
- 51:05sports. And I, I think baseball is
- 51:08always going to ride with USA baseball because this is where
- 51:11it was built. But it's starting to obviously
- 51:14all these countries are starting to catch up to them.
- 51:16So I agree with you, Fish. It's it's very exciting to see
- 51:19team Italy tonight. Hopefully they knock off
- 51:22Venezuela. I'd love to see Italy go back
- 51:25with Team USA and and the United States teach them a listen, you
- 51:28know, smack them around a little bit, explain to them why we're
- 51:33known for our baseball. This is this is United States
- 51:37has always been a baseball national stage product.
- 51:42It it's always been baseball has been America's pastime.
- 51:47Field of Dreams. It it's a movie that everybody's
- 51:50going to remember Kevin Costner ever, ever.
- 51:52It it was one of the one of the baseball movies that really
- 51:55dropped James Earl Jones. My favorite movies of all time.
- 51:58That movie is just legendary American film because baseball,
- 52:02you know, they say is America's past.
- 52:03I mean, you can get in that argument if it's still America's
- 52:05pastime, but it's certainly part of America and it always will
- 52:08be. It's a sport that was created
- 52:11during the American Civil War. It's been around that long.
- 52:13It's what the soldiers were doing in downtime on both sides.
- 52:17So it's kind of fascinating that it's it's stick stuck around and
- 52:21then spread around the world as much as it has because a game
- 52:24like soccer, you know, that goes back into ancient times that
- 52:28honestly, it starts with like guys kicking skulls around
- 52:31cemeteries in medieval times is actually how it started.
- 52:34And it it becomes something that, you know, because there
- 52:37was a lot of that during the plague.
- 52:39There just was a lot of that and they didn't bury very well back
- 52:42then. And it just people just want to
- 52:43have fun and people wanted to do things that are entertaining.
- 52:46And sports has always been that. And sometimes we get too serious
- 52:50about sports. And I think sometimes the sports
- 52:51media especially we're seeing in Japan getting way too serious
- 52:54about some of this stuff. But just have fun man and be
- 52:58proud of your country. For all the Japanese right now
- 53:01out there in Japan crying the river, blah, blah, blah, we got
- 53:04cheated. We got this, we got that.
- 53:06Let me let me throw something and let this stick to all you
- 53:10fans out there. Shay Ohtani should be kicked out
- 53:13of baseball. He should been.
- 53:17He should have been kicked out of the major leagues betting on
- 53:21baseball. You could say whatever you want,
- 53:23guys. Oh, he was in court.
- 53:25He wasn't this. You're going to tell me he
- 53:26didn't know where 20, five, $27 million was when he was betting
- 53:30on sports? Get out of here.
- 53:32He knew exactly what was going on and he just settled while the
- 53:35WBC was going on with the the money that him and his friend
- 53:40who's an agent took from these rich guys, these rich real
- 53:44estate guys, 240 million which the settlement never came out.
- 53:48I wonder why? I wonder, wonder why?
- 53:51So for all you Japanese fans, oh cool.
- 53:54I'm so sad, such a sorrow that our team got robbed and all this
- 54:00and all that and we're going to fire our manager.
- 54:02Bah humbug, go cry to somebody that actually gives a crap.
- 54:06Thank you to all the fans on Apple and Spotify following us
- 54:09and on video and audio, all the different platforms that were on
- 54:12X Instagram, TikTok, Jabba in the mouth.
- 54:17By the way, our show is transitioning into the New York,
- 54:20well, New York sports loudmouth, which will be next week.
- 54:24We're working on everything on the back end.
- 54:26But yeah, it's going to be it's same show, but we're going to
- 54:29have Quinton Copples joining us full time and it's going to be
- 54:33very interesting. I can tell you that another
- 54:35voice a lot of craziness and Quinton doesn't like losing
- 54:40arguments. So that'll be interesting.
- 54:43Anyways. Yeah.
- 54:44Speedy, who do we have on Thursday?
- 54:46Nothing else. I'm sure Nathan will have
- 54:48something planned, Something to want.
- 54:50Soda's a bitch some. But maybe we get want soda on
- 54:53the show. What do you think, Speedy?
- 54:54I want to do a whopping. What do you think?
- 54:57I don't know. I don't know what Nathan would
- 54:59have to do to do that. How about rattling her?
- 55:04Maybe he would. Or he is goofy.
- 55:07Well, somebody'd goofy, right? Could you do that?
- 55:09Like, alright, that's it for a show.
- 55:12Goodnight. It's the worldwide sports radio
- 55:16network. Radio Network Network.
