- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning
- 0:04Speaker 2: sunshine.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Shock
- 0:07Speaker 2: circuit with Sonia and Joakim on 9887. Joe is here officially.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Guess what? He forgot his pass this morning. Thank you.
- 0:15Speaker 2: That's why he was scrambling and um we, we, we
- 0:19Speaker 2: refer to this as a mission impossible, what we mission.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Mission Impossible
- 0:24Speaker 1: mission. A mission impossible task. How about that? So all
- 0:29Speaker 1: Sonia has to do is press the lift, send it
- 0:32Speaker 1: down to level 1, and then wait for me at
- 0:35Speaker 1: level 7. I don't know what's so difficult about it.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I came, I came down.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, well done. That was you being extra careful.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Oh, I'm
- 0:42Speaker 2: not supposed to come down. No, no,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you can, you can actually.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It's a good thing that you did.
- 0:46Speaker 2: OK,
- 0:47Speaker 1: so that I can press to go to level 7
- 0:49Speaker 1: as
- 0:49Speaker 1: well.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Wait, wait, OK, explain something to me. So if I
- 0:53Speaker 2: said this is the 1,000th time I'm asking him, OK,
- 0:55Speaker 2: so I send the lift down to level 1, how
- 0:58Speaker 2: will you press the lift to level
- 1:00Speaker 2: 7?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so if you send the lift down, the lift
- 1:03Speaker 1: to
- 1:04Speaker 2: level 1, you have to press
- 1:05Speaker 1: the
- 1:05Speaker 2: button
- 1:05Speaker 1: immediately.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I mean, I have to press the button from level
- 1:08Speaker 2: 7
- 1:09Speaker 1: immediately going up or going down.
- 1:10Speaker 2: OK, that's too much brain work in the morning, so
- 1:13Speaker 2: I just sent myself down.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Why do you make it sound like a math? This
- 1:16Speaker 1: is very simple. Even a nursery school kid can do this.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So mean. You're not supposed to roast me this early
- 1:23Speaker 2: in the morning. Hey,
- 1:24Speaker 1: at least I roast you and no one's tuned in.
- 1:26Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I appreciate
- 1:28Speaker 2: that.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But good morning to you if you
- 1:31Speaker 1: are
- 1:31Speaker 2: though. There was a meme or a post, right, of
- 1:34Speaker 2: Troy Sivan, Charlie XCX, and Madonna. They were doing some
- 1:37Speaker 2: award-related presentation at the, was it the VMAs recently? I
- 1:42Speaker 2: think it was the VMAs, right? Yeah. And um, when
- 1:44Speaker 2: they stood on stage together, Madonna in the middle with
- 1:47Speaker 2: Troy and Charlie flanking her.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Um, the social media space was just like, oh, look,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it's Madonna and her two kids, like in a good
- 1:57Speaker 2: way because both Troy and Charlie XCX, they're very quirky
- 2:02Speaker 2: and edgy in their own way, and they almost could
- 2:05Speaker 2: come across as like Madonna's real kids, you know,
- 2:08Speaker 1: with
- 2:08Speaker 1: Lady Gaga being their cousin or their aunt, the aunt. Yes,
- 2:13Speaker 1: in the music sense, it does kind of makes sense.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Strike me that yes, they could be siblings and parents
- 2:19Speaker 1: and all that. Anyway, here in Singapore, speaking of music, look,
- 2:23Speaker 1: Formula One fever is upon us. The Bahin Grand Prix
- 2:27Speaker 1: in Malaysia done and dusted. Some rumors are circulating that
- 2:31Speaker 1: some of the drivers are already in Singapore trying to,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I won't say get acclimatized because they were in Malaysia,
- 2:37Speaker 1: but to get used to our Singapore heat and humidity again. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 2: I mean, look, at least it's not too far.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Far off from what they experienced in Malaysia. Although I
- 2:46Speaker 2: will say hopefully the fact that here in Singapore, maybe
- 2:50Speaker 2: we have more trees surrounding the areas that they are,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you know, driving and doing activities that hopefully is a
- 2:56Speaker 2: bit cooler.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So I think starting tomorrow, Wednesday, and maybe even Thursday,
- 3:02Speaker 1: you could be chasing your favorite Formula One drivers at
- 3:04Speaker 1: plenty of events
- 3:06Speaker 2: so many options
- 3:07Speaker 1: here in Singapore.
- 3:08Speaker 2: There were a couple of um social media compilations of
- 3:12Speaker 2: the different locations you can catch different drivers. So hopefully,
- 3:15Speaker 2: those are the most updated. Make sure you check that out. So, um,
- 3:18Speaker 2: like I mentioned earlier, this took about 16 years and much,
- 3:23Speaker 2: a lot of delays, I would say, but it's finally
- 3:26Speaker 2: come to pass. Can you guess what it is? Transportation related.
- 3:30Speaker 1: MRT station is? OK,
- 3:31Speaker 2: you're
- 3:32Speaker 2: quite close. You're getting closer.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Because if you realize, the Thomson East Coast
- 3:38Speaker 2: line, OK, wrong. Oh,
- 3:40Speaker 1: alright, I was gonna say from Caldecott or was it
- 3:43Speaker 1: somewhere else? There's actually one station that it skips. It's there, OK,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but I'm guessing they're just waiting for more traffic from humans,
- 3:51Speaker 1: and then they'll open the station.
- 3:53Speaker 2: What was it gonna be called?
- 3:54Speaker 1: It's the one between Caldecott and Upper Upper Thompson, I
- 3:58Speaker 1: think it could be Bukit Brown, you know.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Oh, they, oh, Bukit Brown there's
- 4:02Speaker 1: a station there.
- 4:04Speaker 2: OK,
- 4:04Speaker 1: but they haven't opened it yet.
- 4:05Speaker 2: OK, OK, like the cemetery. Yeah, but,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but that that that piece of land has been slated
- 4:10Speaker 1: for houses in the future. Oh,
- 4:12Speaker 2: OK, OK. Well, um, it's not that, but you were
- 4:15Speaker 2: getting closer. It's actually the Johor Bahru Singapore RTS link.
- 4:21Speaker 2: 16 years and a delay finally is coming to pass, um.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I think it faces a couple of last um hurdles,
- 4:28Speaker 2: but I believe that um the service between Singapore and
- 4:32Speaker 2: JB will open for passenger service two months after its
- 4:35Speaker 2: original estimated date. So, it's gonna be drumroll, February of 2027.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I
- 4:42Speaker 1: mean, we've waited 16 years.
- 4:44Speaker 2: What's another two months?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it was meant to open at the end of
- 4:47Speaker 2: this year, but I think probably they need to run
- 4:50Speaker 2: some last checks and just make sure that it's all good,
- 4:52Speaker 2: you know, um, trial runs and all that that are
- 4:55Speaker 2: in place to make sure that it's safe and good
- 4:56Speaker 2: to go. So Feb of 2027 is definitely the period
- 5:00Speaker 2: of time we're looking at. OK, that's
- 5:01Speaker 1: Singapore to JB. What about the high-speed rail from Singapore
- 5:05Speaker 1: to
- 5:05Speaker 2: that one, they were talking about it for a long time, right?
- 5:08Speaker 2: I don't know where the conversation is at at this point.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Another 16 years like that. OK, fine.
- 5:15Speaker 2: We're very patient, don't worry. We've got a couple of
- 5:17Speaker 2: shoutouts to read out first before we get to the
- 5:19Speaker 2: phone lines.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I was just gonna say for N Levels today, Sonia,
- 5:23Speaker 1: it's the written paper for math syllabus A happening from
- 5:27Speaker 1: 8 to 10:00 a.m. So all the best to you
- 5:29Speaker 1: for taking it. Wanna say good morning to NW on WhatsApp. Hey,
- 5:33Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim, please help me share this. Good luck
- 5:36Speaker 1: to all your papers, Rayyan. I have confidence in you
- 5:39Speaker 1: nailing all of them and heading to the school of your.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Choice love mom and dad. There we go. That's so sweet.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It is, it is one more coming in from Jia Xuan,
- 5:50Speaker 1: who says, Hey, Sonia and Joakim, I'm doing my N-levels today.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I want to wish all my friends all the best
- 5:55Speaker 1: as well. We've worked hard for this moment. Let's do
- 5:58Speaker 1: it together and hopefully we can go to O levels
- 6:01Speaker 1: together as well. Awesome.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I mean, I think that is a very key moment
- 6:04Speaker 2: for a lot of us. I don't know if you
- 6:06Speaker 2: felt that way, but it was a big life change.
- 6:10Speaker 2: In those moments, right? And the thing is you don't
- 6:16Speaker 2: know whether
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think it's just like a click mentality for us, right?
- 6:20Speaker 2: We like feel more comfortable if we know, oh, at
- 6:23Speaker 2: least 1 or 2 friends and I are going to
- 6:25Speaker 2: the same school, something like that. Yeah, and you won't
- 6:27Speaker 2: be so. Yeah, you won't be so alone, but you
- 6:30Speaker 2: realize after a while you can't make decisions based on that, unfortunately.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So if you're in primary or secondary school, I really
- 6:37Speaker 1: say this treasure your friendships. There are some people from
- 6:40Speaker 1: secondary school I still keep in touch with. It's an
- 6:42Speaker 1: amazing
- 6:42Speaker 2: friendship. It's the cutest thing. OK, we're gonna head to
- 6:45Speaker 2: the phone line.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Right now. Hello, who's this? Good morning,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Shane.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Hello Shane, which school are you from?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Gabriel's. And what level are you in? P4. Any exams
- 6:55Speaker 1: happening for you as we speak? Uh,
- 6:57Speaker 2: no, but tomorrow there's a listening comprehension. OK for P4s. OK,
- 7:03Speaker 2: all the best with that. Do you have a favorite
- 7:06Speaker 2: subject in school or anything? I do like English
- 7:10Speaker 1: and maths. Shane, what's the best thing about St. Gabriel's Primary?
- 7:14Speaker 1: tell us. I think it's
- 7:15Speaker 2: soccer. Alright, OK,
- 7:17Speaker 1: of course, and Gabriel Gabriel.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So is there anything you want to say on air
- 7:21Speaker 2: or like a shout out that you want to give
- 7:23Speaker 2: to anyone? I want to give out a shout out
- 7:25Speaker 2: to all my soccer CCA mates and my schoolmates. Awesome.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I hope they hear this and you have a fantastic
- 7:34Speaker 2: day ahead, OK. Well, one thing dominating our local social
- 7:38Speaker 2: media space for sure was the weekend live in Singapore.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And there is a 1 minute 32nd compilation video of
- 7:46Speaker 1: the amount of times the Weekend hit Singapore.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Singapore, do you
- 7:51Speaker 2: And how he wove it into his set so many times, right?
- 7:55Speaker 2: But the guy's vocals are like perfect, man.
- 7:58Speaker 1: OK, I was saying this to Sonia. This is the
- 8:02Speaker 1: closest to a new age Michael Jackson that we'll ever
- 8:06Speaker 1: get to in terms of his tonality and his musicality.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I mean, you can hear the references and the inspiration, right?
- 8:13Speaker 2: But which pop star wasn't inspired by MJ? That's the thing.
- 8:16Speaker 1: So the weekend, really the staging, the dancing by the dancers.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I don't think I saw him dancing before, but I'm
- 8:22Speaker 1: very happy he had an A stage and a B
- 8:25Speaker 1: stage where he was a lot closer to people at
- 8:27Speaker 1: the back of the national
- 8:28Speaker 1: stadium.
- 8:29Speaker 2: So we had, I mean, we were, we were watching
- 8:31Speaker 2: the concert together in the same row in the same
- 8:33Speaker 2: section and everything. Um, great, great visuals for a petite person.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I managed to see.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Everything, thank goodness. And
- 8:42Speaker 1: somebody actually explained the TLDR of the meaning behind the
- 8:46Speaker 1: weekend staging for this concert.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I think we
- 8:49Speaker 2: probably saw the same post.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so it shows him going from the weekend as
- 8:53Speaker 1: like an idol and all that going back to a man. Yeah,
- 8:57Speaker 2: so it's like a rebirth kind of moment and it
- 9:00Speaker 2: could be signifying the next chapter of his career because
- 9:03Speaker 2: this is it.
- 9:04Speaker 2: For the weekend in that sense, yes, with that branding,
- 9:07Speaker 2: you know. So
- 9:08Speaker 1: let's
- 9:08Speaker 1: see what he will do in terms of his next
- 9:11Speaker 1: album or his next single, but I know that he'll
- 9:13Speaker 1: be in Korea very soon, October 7th and October 8th
- 9:17Speaker 1: at the Goyang Stadium. So it kind of makes you wonder,
- 9:20Speaker 1: is he still in Singapore resting for a bit before
- 9:22Speaker 1: he flies there, which is just 6 hours away?
- 9:24Speaker 2: Possibly. Where else would he be hanging out at?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Lanka,
- 9:30Speaker 2: just go for some relaxing. I don't know, man. I wonder.
- 9:33Speaker 2: No one even knows where he's staying here in Singapore
- 9:35Speaker 2: or anything. Or
- 9:36Speaker 1: do you
- 9:36Speaker 1: think he knows any of the F1 drivers can catch
- 9:39Speaker 1: up in person over a meal before going to? Yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 2: probably they will like shut down a restaurant for them
- 9:44Speaker 2: or something. You go.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I know if I share this with you live on 987,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you are definitely gonna say I've entered uncle mode for
- 9:52Speaker 2: sure. You already entered.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Did you just say I entered uncle mode for sure?
- 9:57Speaker 2: You entered it like years ago. I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 1: there are a few things that I've done since I
- 10:02Speaker 1: was very young to which my friends say, Hey, uncle,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know. For example, waking up early in the morning
- 10:07Speaker 1: to go to the coffee shop to read my papers
- 10:09Speaker 1: and eat yakun kaya toast.
- 10:10Speaker 2: I've not
- 10:11Speaker 2: heard that before. You did that, yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 1: when,
- 10:14Speaker 1: when in my early twenties, OK, for example, if, uh,
- 10:18Speaker 1: school at night.
- 10:19Speaker 1: starts at maybe say 10:30 a.m. So what I'll do
- 10:22Speaker 1: is I used to have newspaper delivery. I'll bring it
- 10:26Speaker 1: to the coffee shop opposite my place to have a
- 10:28Speaker 1: kaya toast and some, uh, tasi kosong.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So basically you deprived your mom of reading the newspapers
- 10:34Speaker 2: at all.
- 10:35Speaker 1: My mom will read it first. So once she's done,
- 10:37Speaker 2: she's done, then you,
- 10:37Speaker 1: then I'll take it and go and read it myself.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, OK, very interesting. I never knew that about you.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And then.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Long time ago, it's almost as if you're seeing a
- 10:45Speaker 1: cycle of behavior repeat itself. Remember how a long time
- 10:49Speaker 1: ago you used to have aunties and uncles waiting for
- 10:52Speaker 1: you to finish your can drink and they would go
- 10:55Speaker 1: immediately and take the can
- 10:56Speaker 1: from you?
- 10:57Speaker 2: I've not actually experienced that like personally.
- 11:00Speaker 1: This, this behavior was quite prevalent in maybe say the
- 11:03Speaker 1: late 2000s.
- 11:04Speaker 2: OK. Are you about to tell me you're that uncle
- 11:06Speaker 2: now or?
- 11:08Speaker 1: With a twist.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Where are you going with
- 11:10Speaker 1: this? With a twist, OK. So this involves the BCRS machine.
- 11:14Speaker 2: OK, yes, I guess as much. You are officially 100%.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I'm proud of it. OK. OK. That's the worrying part.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Stop it. That's the worrying part.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Want to throw you back to the month of March
- 11:27Speaker 1: or April 2026 where they announced the whole BCRS scheme
- 11:32Speaker 1: and the machines and yours.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Actually actually did a campaign to promote the use of it.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So I said, Hey, what's me doing then doing the
- 11:41Speaker 1: campaign if I don't practice what I preach? So ever
- 11:45Speaker 1: since it became a thing, I realized whenever I go
- 11:47Speaker 1: for canned drinks or bottled drinks at the hawker center,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I'll keep it with me, and I'll go to the
- 11:52Speaker 1: nearest one and return it. So I get 10 cents
- 11:54Speaker 1: back each time to my DBS Payla account. Now I
- 11:59Speaker 1: realize when I go to a
- 12:00Speaker 2: restaurant.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Oh no, here we go.
- 12:03Speaker 1: No, if I order a can of Coke Zero, right,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and they serve it to me with the can, I
- 12:08Speaker 1: will say, Oh, please, let me keep the can. It's OK.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So I think they know what I'm going for.
- 12:14Speaker 2: But actually, technically you don't need to say what. Like
- 12:16Speaker 2: you can just take the can with you. They won't ask,
- 12:18Speaker 1: but some of
- 12:18Speaker 1: them will clear the cans or some will give it
- 12:20Speaker 1: to you or some will give it a drink without
- 12:22Speaker 1: the can. Oh, so in a way they cut my
- 12:25Speaker 1: 10 cents.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Why do you always think of it in such a
- 12:29Speaker 2: negative way? I mean, OK lah, they also
- 12:33Speaker 2: Let the restaurant earn some money, lah.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Hey, we're already paying for the food and service tax
- 12:38Speaker 1: and GST and all that you should, yeah. So now
- 12:41Speaker 1: I realize I'll try to keep the cans, and if
- 12:44Speaker 1: I see a BCRS machine nearby, I'll go to it. OK.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yesterday though, OK, was at the Tanjung Paga area. So
- 12:51Speaker 1: I was walking around with my Coke Zero can looking
- 12:54Speaker 1: for a BCRS machine, empty can. Yes, couldn't find one.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So I said, never mind, you know what, I'll go
- 13:01Speaker 1: and hold this cat and maybe walk to Maxwell and
- 13:02Speaker 1: see if there's one. Don't have,
- 13:05Speaker 2: but isn't there like an app to show you the
- 13:07Speaker 2: map locations
- 13:08Speaker 2: or something like
- 13:09Speaker 1: I, I, I think the site's a little bit glitchy.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I tried looking for it, couldn't find one, so I said,
- 13:14Speaker 1: never mind. You know what? I'll hold this can,
- 13:16Speaker 2: go home, right, and
- 13:17Speaker 1: go to Bishan and go to the machine that I'm
- 13:19Speaker 1: familiar with. I went to the machine. The machine was full.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Oh no,
- 13:24Speaker 2: I couldn't return to the point where you couldn't even.
- 13:27Speaker 2: So one can that that
- 13:28Speaker 1: circle where you put the cans or bottles in, it
- 13:30Speaker 1: was red because it's full and that machine, right, it's
- 13:34Speaker 1: just outside the Shengxiong near the bus
- 13:37Speaker 1: interchange.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I think they got to increase the amount of machines. Yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 1: whenever I finish my runs at night and I go
- 13:42Speaker 1: to the Shengxiong to get like a bottled drink, I
- 13:45Speaker 1: realized there are a lot of people, maybe say 5
- 13:48Speaker 1: or 6 people in the queue with.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Bags filled with cans and bottles with the BCRS logo. Yeah,
- 13:55Speaker 1: so now I'm just wondering whether people actively going into
- 13:58Speaker 1: rubbish bins to take it out,
- 14:01Speaker 2: or could it be, are they elderly people or
- 14:04Speaker 1: a little bit? It's a, it's a mix of ages
- 14:06Speaker 1: like some look in their 40s, in my age as well,
- 14:09Speaker 1: or even aunties and uncles from the Merdeka or pioneer generation.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You know, if they are keeping active by walking around
- 14:16Speaker 1: and collecting cans, if they see it in the open, sure,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but to go into a rubbish bin and take it out,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it's a bit
- 14:22Speaker 2: I
- 14:23Speaker 2: mean I wouldn't jump to that conclusion and I hope
- 14:26Speaker 2: that they're not doing that because it's a hygiene as well,
- 14:30Speaker 2: but it's, it's good in a way and yet it
- 14:32Speaker 2: does every time you
- 14:34Speaker 2: You see a good initiative, right? There's always gonna be
- 14:38Speaker 2: a slightly strange or ugly side to it.
- 14:42Speaker 1: That's the thing they are not doing anything wrong because
- 14:43Speaker 1: people are openly leaving their cans there despite knowing there's
- 14:46Speaker 1: a BCRS return scheme and all that. So yeah, uh,
- 14:49Speaker 1: as I, as it stands, I've collected close to about
- 14:52Speaker 1: maybe 30 cans and bottles,
- 14:54Speaker 2: earned $3. Woohoo can get another can drink.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Honestly, I think just 1 or 2 depending on where
- 15:03Speaker 2: you buy it
- 15:03Speaker 2: from.
- 15:04Speaker 1: No, the earning 2000
- 15:07Speaker 1: dollars.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, how many cans and bottles do you
- 15:10Speaker 2: need to collect? I mean, I just realized that I,
- 15:12Speaker 2: I'm not a great contributor when it comes to that
- 15:16Speaker 2: because when was the last time you saw me have
- 15:17Speaker 2: a canned or a bottled drink?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Like, hardly ever.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I don't drink canned drinks.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Asking for a friend, when you do have that can
- 15:26Speaker 1: drink with me, ask me,
- 15:28Speaker 2: when was that?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Whenever
- 15:30Speaker 2: I can't even tell you when I had a drink
- 15:33Speaker 2: at all.
- 15:34Speaker 1: So anyway, uh, let this be a reminder for example,
- 15:36Speaker 1: if you're keeping canned drinks at home, if it has
- 15:39Speaker 1: the BCRS logo, go and get your 10 cents don't
- 15:42Speaker 1: know how many cans you have, go,
- 15:43Speaker 2: go.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And I think a lot of um supermarkets and places
- 15:46Speaker 2: are having flash sales on their old stock that don't
- 15:49Speaker 2: have the logo, so they need to change it ASAP.
- 15:52Speaker 2: So um don't miss those deals. How often do you
- 15:56Speaker 2: eat out, joking every day, every single day, at least
- 15:59Speaker 2: one meal. Actually, me too, to be honest, and especially
- 16:02Speaker 2: since I moved out from my family home years ago, right? Um,
- 16:06Speaker 2: I
- 16:07Speaker 2: My mom is not going to be too happy to
- 16:09Speaker 2: hear this, but I pretty much grab food like delivery
- 16:12Speaker 2: a lot. Not just that, Foodpanda also like if I
- 16:15Speaker 2: see whatever tickles my fancy on either, I'm always ordering.
- 16:19Speaker 1: So that's why when I read this article, I went, yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I'm one of those Singaporeans contributing to our sodium intake
- 16:24Speaker 1: that's very high.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I mean, OK, I try my best to
- 16:30Speaker 2: Go for like healthier options, but regardless of what you choose,
- 16:34Speaker 2: I think just eating out alone will still have a
- 16:37Speaker 2: higher concentration of that compared to just eating like a
- 16:41Speaker 2: home-cooked meal, you
- 16:42Speaker 1: know. And also, let's call a spade a spade, alright.
- 16:46Speaker 1: They sayier options, but the places that we get the
- 16:50Speaker 1: food from, from these healthy places, very expensive. It's it's
- 16:54Speaker 1: very high.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It is. So I do try to cook sometimes I
- 16:58Speaker 2: do but
- 16:59Speaker 2: In busy moments, I mean, let's be real, it's not
- 17:02Speaker 2: gonna happen
- 17:02Speaker 1: and I can't cook whatsoever.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I know, I
- 17:05Speaker 1: know. So if my mom wants to rest that day,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I'll just go and buy like fish porridge or or
- 17:11Speaker 1: maybe like a salad
- 17:12Speaker 1: bowl.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, OK, so porridge, salad bowl, fish soup, you know,
- 17:15Speaker 2: kind of options are still OK. But,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but
- 17:17Speaker 1: the soup itself if you get from the hawker center,
- 17:19Speaker 1: right I mean.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I mean, again, not to speculate, but the sodium content
- 17:23Speaker 1: in the soup is very high.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So, so, so this is something that I noticed about myself, um,
- 17:30Speaker 2: over the years, right, I noticed if I do eat
- 17:32Speaker 2: at places that are way too heavy-handed with the salt
- 17:34Speaker 2: or like MSG even, I can tell, like my, my lips,
- 17:39Speaker 2: I think I've got a reaction to MSG in general.
- 17:42Speaker 2: So the, the, the outer corners of my lips, right,
- 17:45Speaker 2: like the, the border of my lips will start to
- 17:48Speaker 2: get very red and start to itch. So that's my
- 17:51Speaker 2: reaction to MSG or a dish that's too high in salt.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So I remember a long time ago our friends over
- 17:57Speaker 1: at HPB were doing consume less sugar, right? So Singaporeans
- 18:00Speaker 1: are consuming less sugar, we turn to salt but our
- 18:03Speaker 1: sodium
- 18:03Speaker 2: very high.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Anyway, we want to address this in just a little
- 18:08Speaker 2: bit because there's a new stat about more and more
- 18:11Speaker 2: Singaporean adults eating out. Um, it's so funny that we're
- 18:16Speaker 2: doing this particular topic today because I had to pick today.
- 18:20Speaker 2: To bring some leftover soup that I had from yesterday
- 18:23Speaker 2: that I didn't drink. Joakim walks in and he was like,
- 18:25Speaker 2: this is the most aunty thing I've ever seen you
- 18:27Speaker 2: do in the morning because it's like those Chinese soups,
- 18:31Speaker 2: you know, that you get from the hawker center type.
- 18:33Speaker 1: It has a pork rib in there, right? with tomato
- 18:37Speaker 1: slices
- 18:37Speaker 2: and carrot, radish, yeah, yeah, it's like a.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Something like ABC soup, something something like
- 18:45Speaker 2: that.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I, I won't make fun of your auntie habits because
- 18:47Speaker 1: honestly I I love my soups in the morning as well.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Honestly, I, but the only problem was that I went
- 18:53Speaker 2: to heat it up twice in the microwave.
- 18:56Speaker 1: That's our microwave pantry, OK.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Is it that
- 18:59Speaker 2: microwave issue because it's not scalding enough. I need it
- 19:02Speaker 2: to be scalding hot. OK,
- 19:03Speaker 1: calm down.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Um, this, this also brings us to our topic of
- 19:08Speaker 2: the day. How often do you eat out or do
- 19:11Speaker 2: you buy your, your
- 19:13Speaker 2: meals?
- 19:13Speaker 1: OK, so according to some stats, Singapore adults are consuming
- 19:18Speaker 1: more sodium and calories while eating out more is often
- 19:22Speaker 1: identified as a key factor. So in 2019, I think
- 19:26Speaker 1: the same study
- 19:27Speaker 1: Uh, it showed that 6 in 10 people ate out
- 19:30Speaker 1: at least once a day, but as of this year,
- 19:33Speaker 1: 7 in 10 people eat out at least once a day. But,
- 19:37Speaker 1: but here's the thing, it's relative, right? We are all
- 19:39Speaker 1: busy at work and then wanna go for your run
- 19:43Speaker 1: clubs or keep fit or find social
- 19:45Speaker 1: activities.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, chances are you have no time to cook.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Where got time to
- 19:48Speaker 1: cook
- 19:49Speaker 2: exactly? I mean, unless you are very dedicated and I
- 19:51Speaker 2: know some people who like do meal prep stuff, like
- 19:54Speaker 2: they will cook a lot of stuff and then they'll
- 19:55Speaker 2: freeze certain things so they can just, you know, defrost
- 19:58Speaker 2: it and use it in a week.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I, I subscribing to to eat meals. I remember that era,
- 20:04Speaker 1: where it was very high protein and all that, but
- 20:06Speaker 1: I realized it's very tough, you know why?
- 20:08Speaker 1: Um, if I, for example, subscribe to all three meals, breakfast, lunch,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and dinner,
- 20:12Speaker 2: you have to bring it with you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And if I make social plans, it will waste, I'll
- 20:20Speaker 1: waste the dinner
- 20:20Speaker 2: for one meal. Yeah, exactly. So it's tough to find
- 20:24Speaker 2: the right balance. I mean, unless you're very dedicated about it,
- 20:28Speaker 2: then unfortunately you have to cancel your social plan.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So the good news is for our sugar intake, it
- 20:33Speaker 1: has fallen.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And 87.3% of residents now get enough physical activity. Well done, Singapore.
- 20:40Speaker 2: That's very good.
- 20:41Speaker 1: We are moving and our sugar intake is lowering, but
- 20:43Speaker 1: the sodium and calories is going to be very tough
- 20:46Speaker 1: to combat
- 20:46Speaker 1: this one.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, but one thing at a time, I guess, um,
- 20:50Speaker 2: maybe the fact that we're getting more physical activity is
- 20:53Speaker 2: balancing it out a bit more. I
- 20:55Speaker 2: don't know.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I mean you shared how many times.
- 20:58Speaker 1: You eat out a day. For me, it's almost every day. Yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 2: OK, frankly, it's at least one meal a day will
- 21:05Speaker 2: be on food delivery apps or eaten out and
- 21:08Speaker 1: you always say that I'm a creature of habit, right?
- 21:11Speaker 1: But places like Din Tai Feng, for example, or maybe
- 21:14Speaker 1: even Subway if I get the wrap, it to me,
- 21:18Speaker 1: it's considered, at least in my point of view, a
- 21:20Speaker 1: healthier option. Yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 2: no,
- 21:21Speaker 1: I don't disagree as compared to.
- 21:23Speaker 1: all the usual suspects of the hawker center and all that. Yes,
- 21:25Speaker 1: once in a while I indulge in my chicken rice,
- 21:27Speaker 1: and now I've got this newfound obsession with the basil king,
- 21:31Speaker 1: Basil King,
- 21:32Speaker 2: like a Thai, Thai rice,
- 21:33Speaker 1: where you can
- 21:33Speaker 1: choose the amount of egg yolks you want, protein and
- 21:36Speaker 1: the minced chicken, protein also.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but the minced chicken got a lot of seasoning,
- 21:41Speaker 2: for sure, for sure, exactly. But look, I mean, it's
- 21:44Speaker 2: so hard to avoid. Come on, it's really so hard
- 21:46Speaker 2: to avoid and
- 21:48Speaker 2: Sometimes when I go to like a food court or
- 21:49Speaker 2: hawker center, I want to go for the healthier option,
- 21:52Speaker 2: but then, you know, Chouel calls out to me or
- 21:56Speaker 2: calls out to me, yeah, I just can't resist.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Hokkien mee 669-11987. You can call us or you can
- 22:04Speaker 1: WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 22:08Speaker 2: And the question for you is, do you agree with this?
- 22:10Speaker 2: Like how often do you eat out or do you
- 22:14Speaker 2: order from a restaurant? Let us know. Or
- 22:17Speaker 1: if you do eat home cooked meals on the daily,
- 22:20Speaker 1: let us know your way, your ways so we can
- 22:22Speaker 1: learn from you.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It's hard. It's hard. Yeah, it's a commitment. Rumor has
- 22:26Speaker 2: it that she might be dating Kimmy Anselli, um, yet
- 22:30Speaker 2: to be confirmed by any official sources. I one will
- 22:35Speaker 2: wonder whether it was something that fans created and they
- 22:39Speaker 2: like started this whole rumor, but
- 22:41Speaker 2: Must come from somewhere,
- 22:42Speaker 1: right? Kimmy Antonelli and Olivia Rodrigo. That's a Gen Z
- 22:46Speaker 1: right there, man. Yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and, and mark my words, Kimmy's gonna get more handsome
- 22:51Speaker 2: as he ages. I feel like every time I see
- 22:54Speaker 2: him now, um, be it on like, you know, race
- 22:56Speaker 2: broadcast or like even social media, he's slowly maturing. Do
- 22:59Speaker 2: you realize
- 22:59Speaker 1: that? He reminds you of a very young Tom Holland.
- 23:02Speaker 2: He's growing up. Yeah, cutie
- 23:03Speaker 2: pie.
- 23:04Speaker 1: OK, back to our topic of eating out here in
- 23:07Speaker 1: Singapore and
- 23:08Speaker 1: Eating habits. All this inspired by how according to the news,
- 23:12Speaker 1: the Singaporeans, yes, we're consuming less sugar, well done, and
- 23:15Speaker 1: we are active, but we're consuming more sodium and calories.
- 23:19Speaker 1: So I want to say good morning on WhatsApp to Liz. Hello, Liz. Morning, Sojo.
- 23:24Speaker 1: We used to have a helper about 4 years ago,
- 23:26Speaker 1: but when she went back to her home country, we
- 23:29Speaker 1: decided to embrace our new lifestyle, takeaways on weekdays and
- 23:32Speaker 1: home-cooked meals on weekends. Honestly, as long as the children
- 23:36Speaker 1: are
- 23:36Speaker 1: Nobody is fighting and everyone survives dinner. My husband and
- 23:40Speaker 1: I consider the day a success. At this point, dinner
- 23:43Speaker 1: doesn't have to be anything fancy. If the kids are eating,
- 23:47Speaker 1: we are winning. OK,
- 23:48Speaker 2: OK, I feel you. I mean, were you a challenging
- 23:51Speaker 2: eater back then? Do you remember? Did your mom ever
- 23:54Speaker 2: tell you? No,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I, I ate almost everything except saba fish.
- 23:59Speaker 2: So specific. Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: because my, my mom's Korean and she loves the saba fish.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I think she had to prepare for it.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And I realized it smelled very fishy, and I didn't
- 24:07Speaker 1: kind of like it.
- 24:08Speaker 2: But as you, as you got older, did you appreciate it?
- 24:11Speaker 2: I mean,
- 24:12Speaker 1: for, for, for the fact that I can have my
- 24:14Speaker 1: sliced fish porridge now from the Teochew store.
- 24:18Speaker 2: That one is
- 24:18Speaker 2: a win. So, why?
- 24:22Speaker 2: OK, OK.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And when I go to Oakase, I'm just like, I
- 24:25Speaker 1: don't think about it, just eat it. I, I enjoy
- 24:28Speaker 1: it like that, but when it's steamed and you know
- 24:30Speaker 1: you can see it in front of you
- 24:31Speaker 2: need to. OK, Joakim doesn't like to see the whole
- 24:33Speaker 2: fish in its entirety, I
- 24:35Speaker 1: think you're right, right,
- 24:36Speaker 2: with the scales and
- 24:37Speaker 2: everything.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Whenever I go to the NTUC or the wet market,
- 24:40Speaker 1: always about the area.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I know what you mean. Yeah, it can be.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Want to say good morning to Yunti. Yunti says, Hey guys, hello.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm a
- 24:49Speaker 1: Single mom of one, I don't usually eat out. I
- 24:52Speaker 1: will cook almost every day. Due to when my payday
- 24:54Speaker 1: is not yet, not here yet, I usually save up money.
- 24:57Speaker 1: My mom told me that every penny counts, but when
- 25:00Speaker 1: it comes to my payday, then I'll bring my daughter
- 25:02Speaker 1: out for dinner or order from GrabFood at least one month,
- 25:06Speaker 1: one month,
- 25:07Speaker 2: once, once a month, yeah. I mean, I don't know
- 25:10Speaker 2: how we survived prior to our food delivery services being
- 25:13Speaker 2: available in Singapore like.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I, I still remember when I was a kid, right,
- 25:18Speaker 2: like growing up, um, my, my mom cooks pretty much
- 25:21Speaker 2: almost every day, cooked pretty much every day for dinner
- 25:23Speaker 2: and stuff, especially, but, um, when we had the chance
- 25:26Speaker 2: to go out on weekends and get food, I will
- 25:28Speaker 2: always be the one to have to run down and
- 25:30Speaker 2: get the food, like the tapa food, because we just didn't,
- 25:33Speaker 2: there was no Grab or Food Panda back then.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I mean, back then that was delivered to us was
- 25:38Speaker 1: Pizza Hut.
- 25:39Speaker 1: pizza, McDonald's, KFC, Domino's even. I can't think of any
- 25:45Speaker 1: place that had delivery which was considered healthy.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I get what you mean. Yeah. Um,
- 25:50Speaker 2: when we come back, more of your messages and we
- 25:52Speaker 2: still got time for your calls. OK, so we're talking
- 25:54Speaker 2: about the amount of times you eat out in a week.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Pretty sure that with the rise of all your delivery
- 26:00Speaker 2: services in Singapore, it has.
- 26:02Speaker 2: You know. Yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I want to say hello to Sids on WhatsApp. Hey, Sojo,
- 26:08Speaker 1: my family used to buy 2 to 3 times dinner.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Like they'll buy back 2 to 3 times per week,
- 26:13Speaker 1: but now it seems like whenever we buy from outside
- 26:16Speaker 1: of the same amount, it's never enough and food is
- 26:19Speaker 1: getting more expensive. My husband and I now decide just
- 26:22Speaker 1: to cook every day, and we only buy once from outside.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Unless the kids want to treat the family during their payday,
- 26:29Speaker 1: they're doing their internships now. OK,
- 26:32Speaker 2: OK. No, I, I think, and here's, I mean, my
- 26:37Speaker 2: own opinion, I think some places that I've been used
- 26:41Speaker 2: to ordering quite a bit, they've reduced their portion size actually,
- 26:45Speaker 2: some places, some places.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we're paying the same amount or even more, but
- 26:50Speaker 2: then some of them have really, it's gotten quite
- 26:52Speaker 1: little. One more coming in from June. Morning. Weekday dinners
- 26:56Speaker 1: are almost always home cooked because my mom cooks and
- 26:59Speaker 1: my husband and I will head over for dinner. It's
- 27:02Speaker 1: a blessing as I work long hours.
- 27:03Speaker 1: And it's impossible to prepare dinner and also my culinary
- 27:06Speaker 1: skills are not exactly great. Weekends we usually eat out
- 27:10Speaker 1: unless I'm in the mood to cook. Working full time
- 27:12Speaker 1: and having to clean the home on weekends does take
- 27:14Speaker 1: its toll. So not cooking means one less thing to
- 27:18Speaker 1: clean up. I agree.
- 27:20Speaker 2: So, you know, um, sometimes I will get moments of
- 27:22Speaker 2: inspiration where I really want to cook dinner. Like I
- 27:25Speaker 2: will just have a feeling. I mean, I don't know.
- 27:27Speaker 2: I don't, I don't think you can relate, but all
- 27:29Speaker 2: of a sudden I'd be like, OK, I'm craving this,
- 27:30Speaker 2: and I feel like making it.
- 27:32Speaker 2: So last week because I was recovering from my sinus infection, right,
- 27:36Speaker 2: I felt like having like Japanese hot pot, you know,
- 27:40Speaker 2: like where you, but I didn't want to go out.
- 27:42Speaker 2: So since I was on MC, yeah, shabushabu, so I
- 27:46Speaker 2: texted germs and I said like I'm going to make
- 27:47Speaker 2: like a shabu or sukiyaki kind of situation. His reply was, actually,
- 27:52Speaker 2: can we do something simpler? I don't want to wash
- 27:54Speaker 2: after that.
- 27:56Speaker 2: So I had to be like, OK, I'll reassure him
- 27:59Speaker 2: that I'll use as little cutlery as possible.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I, I don't think it's the cutlery. It's more of the,
- 28:05Speaker 1: I mean, the
- 28:05Speaker 2: plates
- 28:06Speaker 1: and the bowl and the steamboat bowl and all that
- 28:08Speaker 1: and the pots and pans.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So, uh, I still did it and he still washed it,
- 28:11Speaker 2: so we're good.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Like I find it very easy to wash cutlery, but
- 28:15Speaker 1: the frying pans and the pots and the pots
- 28:18Speaker 2: didn't use any frying. Yeah, so it was just the
- 28:20Speaker 2: shabu pot that was it.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Just make sure you use the correct thing to scrub
- 28:23Speaker 1: it with and also get rid of all the oil.
- 28:26Speaker 2: But still it's an extra chore if you decide to cook.
- 28:28Speaker 2: That's the only thing, yeah. When you think of someone
- 28:30Speaker 2: like Dua Lipa.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure she has her own personal chef following
- 28:35Speaker 2: her for her tours, not just her, even people like
- 28:38Speaker 2: the Weekend or, you know, your F1 drivers, your footballers.
- 28:41Speaker 1: You know, I always thought that people with personal chefs, yeah, la,
- 28:45Speaker 1: OK la, very rich, la, OK, yeah, I will make
- 28:48Speaker 1: fun of it and I'll scowl at it, but as
- 28:50Speaker 1: I get older, I realize that actually having a personal
- 28:52Speaker 1: chef isn't too bad an idea if you can afford it.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Um, OK, it doesn't make too much sense if we're
- 28:58Speaker 2: just based here in Singapore like this and you have
- 29:00Speaker 2: a personal chef, but I mean, if I look at
- 29:02Speaker 2: it from a POV, yeah, OK, Dua Lipa, your F1 drivers,
- 29:05Speaker 2: your other, you know, artists that are on tour, they
- 29:08Speaker 2: are obviously earning a lot of money, but can you imagine, OK.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Being an athlete like an F1 driver or footballer is
- 29:17Speaker 2: the same as like going on tour, like, you know,
- 29:19Speaker 2: your Taylor Swift of the world or whatever going on tour,
- 29:22Speaker 2: because you're traveling to so many different countries and each
- 29:24Speaker 2: country's cuisine is so different, it may not sit well
- 29:26Speaker 2: with you.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I, you
- 29:28Speaker 1: know, in Singapore, you,
- 29:30Speaker 1: you,
- 29:31Speaker 2: you only go to Bishan and here.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Hey, our, our studio, these are the two places where
- 29:37Speaker 2: you eat. I know already when we host
- 29:39Speaker 1: events, we go to different areas here in Singapore. The
- 29:41Speaker 1: taste buds in Tuas is different from the taste buds
- 29:44Speaker 1: in Changi.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I cannot believe that you're saying that. I'm just kidding,
- 29:48Speaker 1: OK?
- 29:49Speaker 2: He's not kidding.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Just trying to justify maybe one day having a nutritionist
- 29:52Speaker 1: slash personal chef to help with the diet.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Maybe that's where you need to look for your future wife.
- 29:59Speaker 2: In the medical zones
- 30:02Speaker 1: use the first
- 30:04Speaker 1: date,
- 30:05Speaker 2: just, just hang about the clinic
- 30:07Speaker 1: and match with someone from HPB. Just kidding. I want
- 30:10Speaker 1: to say good morning to Justin. Justin says, hey, Sojo,
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'm a delivery rider, and to be honest, a lot
- 30:17Speaker 1: of people in Singapore actually order delivery, especially during public
- 30:21Speaker 1: holidays or weekends.
- 30:23Speaker 2: That's just, you know, our way.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Of giving ourselves a break, I guess from the chores.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And one coming in from David. David says, ever since
- 30:29Speaker 1: I was diagnosed with high blood and high cholesterol, I
- 30:32Speaker 1: make a drastic change in my diet. That is switching
- 30:35Speaker 1: to having more fruits, vegetables, lean meat and proteins with
- 30:39Speaker 1: very little carbs and no gravy sauce or even the
- 30:43Speaker 1: sweet stuff. Even if I have to eat out, be
- 30:46Speaker 1: in hawkers or restaurants.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I have to be mindful of the choices I make.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I'm glad with the changes in my recent checkup. I'm
- 30:52Speaker 1: back to a healthy range. Guys, choices matter. Eat wisely
- 30:58Speaker 1: before the body puts a toll on you.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Oh
- 31:00Speaker 2: no, you got a point and just say like, oh,
- 31:04Speaker 2: it doesn't affect me because I'm still young and all that. OK,
- 31:08Speaker 2: you might think of it that way, but here's an
- 31:10Speaker 2: example for you, OK.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I had a, I have a very close friend. She's
- 31:13Speaker 2: not 30 yet. She's still in her 20s, and she
- 31:17Speaker 2: during her university days actually got diagnosed with like pre-diabetes
- 31:23Speaker 2: from drinking too much like bubble tea every day. And
- 31:27Speaker 2: she was like mid like what, early twenties at that time.
- 31:31Speaker 1: bubble tea cup.
- 31:32Speaker 2: So it's not always about the age or your stage
- 31:36Speaker 2: of life. It's really how you consume your food and
- 31:38Speaker 2: drink.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I mean, if you can, it's very easy to check
- 31:40Speaker 1: your blood sugar levels. They patch that you can wear
- 31:44Speaker 1: for almost a week or 5 days you did it
- 31:46Speaker 1: once in a while just to understand why I keep
- 31:49Speaker 1: waking up in the middle of the night.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Massive
- 31:52Speaker 2: food hunger cravings or
- 31:53Speaker 1: sugar cravings,
- 31:54Speaker 2: yeah. OK, we're still figuring that out, by the way.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm just on this journey.
- 31:58Speaker 1: You know, you watch my sleep score, right, I can
- 32:00Speaker 1: see the huge chunk of red that shows I'm awake
- 32:03Speaker 1: for 20 minutes. Yeah, I'm awake. Yes. So I remember
- 32:06Speaker 1: last week when this made the news, all of us
- 32:08Speaker 1: were talking about it here on air and on TikTok
- 32:11Speaker 1: as well.
- 32:12Speaker 1: How GovTech, they are gonna pilot a dating app called
- 32:16Speaker 1: First Date where government staff from agencies will be able
- 32:20Speaker 1: to match each other. Then I said, Oh, would you
- 32:22Speaker 1: date someone from the same ministry or same agency? To
- 32:26Speaker 1: which maybe someone heard it or whatsoever, because the next
- 32:29Speaker 1: day they put out a press release saying, hey guys, uh,
- 32:32Speaker 1: people from the same agency won't be
- 32:34Speaker 1: matched.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Because I think that might be a bit of a conflict, right?
- 32:39Speaker 2: Like if you're too close in proximity.
- 32:45Speaker 1: So for example, you won't match with someone in affairs
- 32:48Speaker 1: match with someone from Home Affairs.
- 32:50Speaker 2: OK,
- 32:51Speaker 2: that's cute. That's a cute
- 32:53Speaker 2: match.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Can learn about each other, you know what I mean,
- 32:57Speaker 1: or what, don't worry about that one.
- 32:59Speaker 1: And apparently these public offices have up till today to
- 33:04Speaker 1: sign up for it. So they haven't mentioned how good
- 33:07Speaker 1: sign-up rates are, but I'm very interested to see what happens.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I, I think it's a good idea because you
- 33:16Speaker 2: a portion of people who are like dodgy who have
- 33:19Speaker 2: dodgy behavior on other types of apps,
- 33:22Speaker 1: yeah.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Again, some concerns are saying that hey, the questionnaire you
- 33:27Speaker 1: all give us, uh, it's kind of restricting our options,
- 33:30Speaker 1: you know.
- 33:31Speaker 1: And again, I'm curious to know what the difference between
- 33:36Speaker 1: this dating app and others that are readily available on
- 33:39Speaker 1: your app stores, right? This one only matches you once
- 33:42Speaker 1: per month. It's like
- 33:44Speaker 2: a matching cycle.
- 33:45Speaker 1: So they give you time to go out with this person,
- 33:47Speaker 1: get to know this person and see if he or
- 33:49Speaker 1: she is your fancy. If not, wait till next month
- 33:51Speaker 1: and move on.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Then you got time.
- 33:55Speaker 1: What
- 33:55Speaker 1: went wrong?
- 33:57Speaker 2: And then you realize it's me.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Oh no. OK, ah, here's the thing, you know, the
- 34:03Speaker 1: dating stereotype of how all men are the same or
- 34:05Speaker 1: all women are the same, right? Can you imagine because
- 34:07Speaker 1: of this, people are saying, yeah, all these men from
- 34:10Speaker 1: Home Affairs, all the same one, all the women from
- 34:14Speaker 1: the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, all the same lah. Yo,
- 34:16Speaker 2: I'll be curious
- 34:17Speaker 2: to know, man, if there's some sort of like anonymous
- 34:21Speaker 2: confessional out there. I'm sure that will happen.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 34:25Speaker 2: There will be one.
- 34:25Speaker 2: OK, time for some food news. Let's go.
- 34:29Speaker 1: sad or happy?
- 34:30Speaker 2: I think it's, it's, it's positive for now. It's positive.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Ask you sad or happy, you say positive. That means
- 34:37Speaker 1: there'll be some tinge of sadness.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, will be
- 34:40Speaker 1: 123, food news, food news. Sonia with the good food news.
- 34:48Speaker 1: It's sad but still hopeful.
- 34:49Speaker 2: So if you follow the news about Punggol East container.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Park area, um, it's supposed to be stated for residential redevelopment,
- 34:57Speaker 2: to which I think it was met with quite a
- 34:59Speaker 2: lot of bittersweet reactions from people
- 35:02Speaker 1: going, huh? Why not? Let's do a petition. Let's keep
- 35:07Speaker 1: it here in the Punggol area.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I
- 35:09Speaker 2: know because I think for a lot of the tenants there,
- 35:11Speaker 2: you know, it's become a regular place for the residents
- 35:15Speaker 2: around the area. So I can understand like remember last
- 35:17Speaker 2: week we just did that topic about something that you
- 35:20Speaker 2: are so used to seeing.
- 35:21Speaker 2: And you know, growing up with or visiting that you'd
- 35:23Speaker 2: be so sad if it relocates or moves, and this
- 35:26Speaker 2: I feel is what people think about Punggol East Container Park.
- 35:28Speaker 2: And
- 35:29Speaker 1: if
- 35:29Speaker 1: I'm not wrong, I think a pickleball place is, I
- 35:34Speaker 1: don't know what it did just open or has it
- 35:35Speaker 1: been there for a while, play pickle because whenever I
- 35:39Speaker 1: run past, I can hear the pop pop.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Oh, you hear it, is it OK? But, um, the
- 35:42Speaker 2: good news is, despite, um, a lot of, I guess,
- 35:46Speaker 2: people being quite upset that many.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Many of the tenants had to like move out already.
- 35:51Speaker 2: If I'm not wrong, they started moving out once they got,
- 35:54Speaker 2: some of them already relocated or they found another place,
- 35:57Speaker 2: OK just in case. But 4 main tenants at Punggol
- 36:02Speaker 2: East Container Park and Tebing Lane, which is a nearby
- 36:06Speaker 2: area as well, will be offered a lease extension of
- 36:09Speaker 2: up to 1 year. So they still have 1 more
- 36:12Speaker 2: year to function to the end of 2027. Um, their
- 36:16Speaker 2: current tenancies.
- 36:17Speaker 2: were due to expire actually in December this year, and
- 36:19Speaker 2: they wanted to start their residential development, but I think
- 36:22Speaker 2: the development timelines have been adjusted, so they can still
- 36:25Speaker 2: accommodate at least for the 4 main tenants that are
- 36:28Speaker 2: over there. Um, not all of them were stated, but
- 36:30Speaker 2: City Sprouts, which is the master tenant of, um, the
- 36:34Speaker 2: container Park, they did secure a new place at Pasir
- 36:37Speaker 2: Ris Park already because I think they want the farming
- 36:41Speaker 2: thing to still be part of their, you know, their culture.
- 36:45Speaker 2: So they, they will still be around for a little bit,
- 36:47Speaker 2: I guess.
- 36:49Speaker 1: I can only imagine what a busy leases extended because
- 36:56Speaker 1: they run a business, they must also search for a
- 36:58Speaker 1: new location and settle everything within
- 37:01Speaker 1: 1 year.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yeah, which, by the way, as you have experienced from 2026,
- 37:05Speaker 2: it goes by in the blink of an eye, so
- 37:07Speaker 2: you never know.
- 37:09Speaker 2: But, um, hey, this is at least some good news
- 37:11Speaker 2: for the people around the area. You still get a
- 37:13Speaker 2: sense of normalcy for another year. And
- 37:14Speaker 1: if you want to enjoy them, make sure you go
- 37:16Speaker 1: within the year before they move up from 2027 onwards.
- 37:19Speaker 1: We should probably,
- 37:20Speaker 2: I've never actually been there.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Oh, you should.
- 37:21Speaker 1: It's actually a beautiful location. Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 2: it is. OK, I'll make an effort. So
- 37:25Speaker 1: inspired by sightings at the weekend concert, loads of influencer
- 37:30Speaker 1: baddies next to me doing selfies.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And everything. Oh yeah, and once every 5 minutes the
- 37:35Speaker 1: poor security guard in yellow in front of us had
- 37:37Speaker 1: to go and chase them away like, hello, you can't
- 37:40Speaker 1: stand in the staircase area.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a hazard.
- 37:43Speaker 1: And then towards Sonia's
- 37:44Speaker 2: right,
- 37:45Speaker 1: a bit of an interesting sight.
- 37:46Speaker 2: OK, so, so when I got there, I, um, I
- 37:50Speaker 2: got there just before Joe actually. So we're carrying some
- 37:52Speaker 2: like beers and stuff, right? sat down, had our drinks
- 37:55Speaker 2: and everything.
- 37:56Speaker 2: There was this poor thing like this very lost looking
- 38:00Speaker 2: auntie that was sitting next to us. OK. Um, she
- 38:03Speaker 2: was very quiet, didn't say anything. She was on her
- 38:04Speaker 2: phone like most of the time and, you know, she
- 38:06Speaker 2: just curious because I was like, oh, hi, you know
- 38:09Speaker 2: kind of thing, but I think she's not from Singapore.
- 38:11Speaker 2: She doesn't really speak much English. So she just sort
- 38:14Speaker 2: of like waved and smiled. So I was like, OK.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Then just waiting around, I was like, who is she
- 38:19Speaker 2: watching the concert with? I'm so curious. Lo and behold,
- 38:22Speaker 2: her son shows up, OK.
- 38:24Speaker 2: And he's grown up. He's a grown-up. I think he's
- 38:27Speaker 2: at least like in his twenties or something. And throughout
- 38:30Speaker 2: the entire concert, this mom of his is just there
- 38:34Speaker 2: for the vibes and accompanying him, OK? Or maybe she
- 38:37Speaker 2: paid for the tickets. I don't know. He was belting
- 38:39Speaker 2: his lungs out, singing all the X-rated words that we
- 38:43Speaker 2: cannot say on air.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Um,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I, I, I wouldn't bring my mom to a weekend concert.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I mean, you know, all his.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Lyrics,
- 38:51Speaker 2: yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. So, but I, I have a
- 38:54Speaker 2: feeling his mom doesn't understand English very much. Yeah, so
- 38:58Speaker 2: she can only speak Mandarin, I think. That's why she's
- 39:00Speaker 2: very quiet, but he knows English, like he knows English,
- 39:03Speaker 2: so he's belting out, he's screaming all the X-rated words.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I was like, oh my God, I love it. I
- 39:07Speaker 2: love that for you. Enjoy
- 39:09Speaker 1: yourself.
- 39:12Speaker 1: My mom will be like, Who are you calling?
- 39:14Speaker 1: Who?
- 39:15Speaker 2: Joe, I don't think that you would be bringing your
- 39:17Speaker 2: mom to a weekend concert. That's for sure. Yeah,
- 39:20Speaker 1: yeah, you know, I'll bring my mom to go and
- 39:21Speaker 1: watch like Celine Dion or something if she's here in Singapore.
- 39:27Speaker 2: I brought my mom to watch Boyz to Men. Ah yes,
- 39:29Speaker 1: that's the kind of concert you bring your mom
- 39:31Speaker 1: to
- 39:32Speaker 2: 100% screaming for them.
- 39:36Speaker 2: You know what, they are auntie killers, you know, the
- 39:38Speaker 2: Boyz II Men.
- 39:39Speaker 1: You made your mom feel 19.
- 39:41Speaker 2: I mean, 20. I don't remember another concert I went
- 39:44Speaker 2: to that I saw so many people around my mom's
- 39:46Speaker 2: age just like throwing themselves at Boyz II Men at
- 39:49Speaker 2: the band.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I got one
- 39:50Speaker 1: for you, OK. The next time you come to Singapore,
- 39:53Speaker 1: bring your Air Supply.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Oh, she's not a fan though. Yeah, she's not a
- 39:56Speaker 2: fan of Air Supply. She finds them annoying actually.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Sorry, who are we to judge, but
- 40:03Speaker 2: You know, my mother, like, I don't like very annoying.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I'm like,
- 40:05Speaker 1: OK. Well, she's almost as direct as you are. Yes,
- 40:09Speaker 2: extremely. She's very savage. I can see where you get
- 40:11Speaker 2: it from. Thank you for kicking off your week with us.
- 40:14Speaker 2: It is going to be a busy, hectic week, or
- 40:16Speaker 2: maybe if you are not exactly the kind of person that,
- 40:19Speaker 2: you know, indulges in the F1 season, perhaps it could
- 40:22Speaker 2: be a time for you to be traveling, maybe you
- 40:24Speaker 2: booked a short trip overseas. I don't know.
- 40:26Speaker 1: OK, look, only because you are hosting.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I think what, 2 or 3 different F1 events and
- 40:31Speaker 1: for yours truly I'll be at 2 hosting one of them.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Tomorrow we will give you our schedule so you can
- 40:38Speaker 1: make plans on what time to go to the areas
- 40:40Speaker 1: and where, because I think there's one day where, especially
- 40:43Speaker 1: on the 7th and the 8th, who, you might be
- 40:46Speaker 1: running up and down Orchard Road or I dare say
- 40:48Speaker 1: from Orchard all the way to Sentosa.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I think, yeah, those two days because typically, you know.
- 40:55Speaker 2: When it comes to outdoor-related activations for brands, they're not
- 40:57Speaker 2: going to do anything from Friday onwards. Yeah, so it's,
- 40:59Speaker 2: it's gonna be Wednesday. It's limited to Wednesday and Thursday already.
- 41:03Speaker 1: The one thing we can confirm is for the Tommy
- 41:05Speaker 1: Hilfiger event with Cadillac. It's Checo Perez, Sergio Perez, and
- 41:09Speaker 1: Chou Kuan Yi. Val Teddy Bottas won't be there. He
- 41:12Speaker 1: might be cycling somewhere here in Singapore.
- 41:14Speaker 2: He's a funny
- 41:15Speaker 2: dude
- 41:15Speaker 1: though. Check out Mount Fable. He could be there. He
- 41:17Speaker 1: likes his uphills.
- 41:18Speaker 2: I like his contents. Quite funny. Anyway, uh, we'll catch
- 41:22Speaker 2: you tomorrow at 6 a.m. Stay tuned.
