Latest / Aspergers & Autism Podcast [The Aspie World] AuDHD / Autistic People Die Early!?
Transcript
- 0:00So there's a new study out that says that autistic people die
- 0:04earlier than non autistic people.
- 0:06The life expectancy for autistic individual is similar between 30
- 0:09and 50 years old. And that's a staggering
- 0:11statistic. Guys, welcome back to the aspy
- 0:13world. My name is Dan, I have autism,
- 0:14ADHDOCD and dyslexia and I make weekly videos all about this
- 0:17stuff. But today specifically, I'm
- 0:19doing two things. I'm answering a question which I
- 0:21put in a video. Yesterday I post a question,
- 0:23you've seen a video, and today I'm going to answer that
- 0:25question. But also today I'm going to pose
- 0:26another question and I'm going to reveal more interesting
- 0:30information about this and how I can help you specifically with
- 0:34videos coming out tomorrow which is unlike anything I've ever
- 0:36done before and it's going to blow your mind.
- 0:38Now autistic videos 80% of the time are out of work or unable
- 0:43to get work. Now this is a crazy statistic
- 0:45and I was talking about this in the last video, but in terms of
- 0:47why this happens there are a multitude of of issues.
- 0:50One of the main things is that autistic individuals sometimes,
- 0:55and actually a lot of the time, will lack self-confidence or
- 0:58self-awareness, self-awareness and self-confidence.
- 1:00When those things dip, you have a lack of ability to go forward
- 1:05systematically, which means if you're feeling less adequate
- 1:09than the other person, if you're feeling intimidated by the work
- 1:12you're going to present to do, then you are going to look not
- 1:16confident and you're also going to feel the lack of confidence,
- 1:19which will also spoil the job. Like if you were told to operate
- 1:22a piece of machinery, We didn't know how machinery worked.
- 1:25You'd be less confident in working that machinery.
- 1:26Which means that if somebody else came in and they were
- 1:28confident in using that machine because they knew about it, then
- 1:31they would be like, you know, have the upper hand to you.
- 1:34So it's all about creating confidence around the thing that
- 1:37you currently have issues with, and this is done in a multitude
- 1:41of ways. Now, specifically for work, you
- 1:43understand the machinery and the mechanics for the thing you were
- 1:45working on. You become more confident in it
- 1:47and the confident will exceed your expectations in what you
- 1:51think to be successful in that job role, and that is how you
- 1:54can do that. Now I'm actually teaching this
- 1:56in a program and I'll speak more about that tomorrow, but
- 1:58specifically that issue is is so unbelievably easy to fix as long
- 2:05as you know what you're doing now.
- 2:06At the beginning of this video, I said that there's a huge
- 2:08statistical data piece that came out saying autistic individuals
- 2:11are going to die earlier. This comes from the fact that
- 2:14autistic individuals have issues with mental health issues.
- 2:19They'll have issues with, you know, communication,
- 2:21responsibilities of trying to communicate with other people,
- 2:24relationships, work, love, life, children, family life, friends,
- 2:29circles, all these things will become added pressure and these
- 2:32things may topple over on top of an autistic person, but why are
- 2:36they dying early? What is the what is the reason
- 2:39for this? And and there's there's
- 2:41something you could do about it. Now there is an in tomorrow's
- 2:44video, which is my last video in this three video sequence, and
- 2:47I'm going to talk all about that and any fantastic opportunity I
- 2:50have for every autistic adult. Now if you're autistic adult
