- 0:45dope. So I wanted to do this shop kind
- 0:48of you know, info video talking about like depression from like
- 0:51an autistic point of view. Because you know, I've
- 0:54definitely experienced depression a lot and it's so
- 0:58different and difficult for people on the autism spectrum.
- 1:01I look depression is difficult for anybody.
- 1:02But what I'm trying to say is that it's unique for people on
- 1:04the spectrum for a few different reasons.
- 1:06But autism comes with a whole host of mental health
- 1:08conditions, right? You know, you've got anxiety and
- 1:10then you've got stress and you got depression and you've got,
- 1:13you've got, there's loads of stuff in that agoraphobia,
- 1:15claustrophobia, sensory processing disorders, loads of
- 1:18things, right? But in terms of depression in
- 1:22general, I've experienced depression quite a few times.
- 1:24But the the weirdest thing happens because when you are,
- 1:29when you're on the spectrum and and you're you're basically you
- 1:33have communication issues and communication issues happen with
- 1:35everything from talking to people to you know walking in a
- 1:39straight line and picking something up to emotional
- 1:42connections and understanding your emotions and then relaying
- 1:44your your emotions and actually communicating your emotions
- 1:47outward. So with depression, depression
- 1:50is a really low mood low feel of like self like worthlessness and
- 1:54something that happens as a as a result of something like a
- 1:57catalyst. And depression is a mental
- 1:58health condition obviously. But how do you deal with
- 2:01something when you can't you know feel the emotions yourself.
- 2:04How do you how do you define your own emotions?
- 2:06It's hard for autistic people to dig down feel their emotions and
- 2:09understand what's going on. So if you're depressed and
- 2:12you're autistic, you're kind of at a disadvantage to understand
- 2:15your emotions but then to try and tell somebody else how
- 2:18you're feeling, what your emotions are, what depression
- 2:20is. How is this affecting you?
- 2:22Well, you're already at a loss because autism doesn't allow you
- 2:26the ability to emotionally connect and talk and communicate
- 2:30your emotions and feelings and things that easy.
- 2:32You know, it takes a long time. It's very difficult for people
- 2:34on the autism spectrum to do that and it's just it's just a
- 2:38very difficult thing for people to do.
- 2:40So I would say that if you know somebody who is autistic and,
- 2:45you know, because most of these people are vulnerable to kind of
- 2:48all susceptible to depression and stress and anxiety, then my
- 2:51advice would be to look out for that person and and just look
- 2:55out for them as like a Big Brother or big sister kind of
- 2:57role and just kind of say, well, you know, if they're feeling
- 3:01down, then just to let you know they're feeling down, they don't
- 3:03have to try and explain themselves because it could be
- 3:04depression. Right.
- 3:05And the only way to really help them is to get, you know,
- 3:08medical help from professionals. But if you can't get medical
- 3:11help from professionals, the best thing you can do is just to
- 3:13listen to them and make sure that they're safe and well in
- 3:15themselves. And it's such a fascinating
- 3:17thing. You know, I've experienced
- 3:18depression because of the, the weather I get season affected
- 3:21disorder, which I did a video on which I'll try and link down
- 3:23below. And it caused depression.
- 3:24You know, every year on this time I kind of get really
- 3:26depressed, like January, February time.
- 3:28And then I had depression when I was supposed to be on a TV show
- 3:31and then the TV show, like, just decided to drop me and stuff.
- 3:34And it was just horrible, you know, And that that was just, it
- 3:37was just horrible. And I just couldn't really
- 3:39describe how I was feeling. And that depression kind of
- 3:41drove me even more. And so you can't describe how
- 3:43you feel, but you're feeling low and then you just get lower and
- 3:47lower and then you just end up just feeling like absolute
- 3:49rubbish because you've got no way of explaining yourself.
- 3:52You can't do that. You just can't do it.
- 3:54So it's a very difficult one to deal with.
- 3:56I hope this kind of makes some kind of sense to you guys.
- 3:58If it does, pop me a comment down below.
- 4:00Let me know how you feel about it.
