- 0:53Something happens quite often for autistic people and a
- 0:56meltdown. If you're not autistic and
- 0:57you're watching this video is where you become emotionally
- 1:00overwhelmed by it's too much stimuli from from your
- 1:03environment that you then become a volcano of emotions.
- 1:07To put it quite bluntly. But there are no ways of
- 1:09overcoming these very quickly. There are ways of overcoming
- 1:12these in the correct way and there's ways to do it in
- 1:14incorrect way. So I'm going to share with you
- 1:16some tips and tricks and little hacks here that you can help
- 1:18overcome A meltdown quite quickly.
- 1:20So the first thing I'm going to say is after you have a
- 1:22meltdown, you need to drink a lot of water.
- 1:24I mean like two big glasses of water.
- 1:26What happens is when you hyperventilate and when you when
- 1:29you start to get headaches, your your brain is, is using a lot of
- 1:32oxygen, there's enough a lot of water and you'll then get
- 1:35dehydrated. Now, if you're dehydrated,
- 1:37what's going to happen is that you're going to be prolonged in
- 1:41your recovery from meltdown. It could take 24 hours
- 1:44typically, but then it could take three or four days because
- 1:46you've been dehydrated. So you feel groggy and horrible
- 1:49for two or three days afterwards.
- 1:50So this would just prolong the horrible feeling of having a
- 1:53autism meltdown. Now, when you're in the middle
- 1:55of having an autism meltdown, or if you're feeling like you're
- 1:57going to have a meltdown, you need to change your environment,
- 2:00ACP. The quicker you can get out of
- 2:02that environment and go towards a different environment will
- 2:04change your perspective. Because remember, the
- 2:06environment is causing this meltdown.
- 2:08Everything in your environment, your spatial, your spatial
- 2:11awareness is causing this meltdown.
- 2:13If you instantly go from your environment, it's causing you
- 2:16the harm at the moment to a different environment, you will
- 2:19instantly remedy most of the issues.
- 2:22You'll still be in enough state, but you'll definitely remedy
- 2:24most of the issues. And what I'd like to do some
- 2:27bridge good things. So we're normally doing good
- 2:29things in life. We're always going towards
- 2:30pleasure and away from pain. So before you had the meltdown,
- 2:33you're probably doing something quite pleasurable.
- 2:34You we walk to the mall to buy a new equipment or a new piece of
- 2:37clothing or whatever, but then the meltdown happens in the
- 2:40mall. So what do you need to do?
- 2:41You need to sandwich a negative experience between 2 positive
- 2:44experiences. So the positive experience was
- 2:45going somewhere because you thought was going to be fun.
- 2:47That's negative experience was a meltdown.
- 2:49Take yourself out the situation and put something on your phone
- 2:53or your iPad that you really enjoy.
- 2:54It could be your your, your, you know, topic of interest, your
- 2:57research topic. Whatever it is, do that because
- 2:59I'm just going to give you pleasure straight away.
- 3:01Those are probably these three most powerful things I could
- 3:04tell you to do right now in the next time you experience having
- 3:07an autism meltdown. And this goes for parents as
- 3:09well. Watching now, guys, I have an
