- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. To the three O take.
- 0:03Where we talk all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle, Corwin and Nate. Reyes, it all starts.
- 0:13Right now. Welcome back to the Three O take
- 0:16presented by Sea Kick. This is episode 492.
- 0:20I'll be your host Kyle Corn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:27We lied to you, said this was this was a one for a week.
- 0:34Look at us. We were always, we were always
- 0:37going to have two episodes this week that it was inevitable.
- 0:40That was always. There was always going to be a
- 0:42signing right after our recording too, and a big.
- 0:46One, we're not talking like. No.
- 0:49We're not talking about like, I mean, no, no offense to Cody
- 0:52Bellinger, we're not talking about like a Cody Bellinger
- 0:54trade or something. But like it was going to be one
- 0:57of the big dominoes to fall. That was always the plan that
- 1:00was always going to happen. So we in classic fashion got to
- 1:05got to hop on here and and talk about it.
- 1:07I think we have gotten a little bit better with these like
- 1:09breaking pot of these. I won't call it a bonus episode,
- 1:14but like emergency pods, I guess.
- 1:16I mean, they're not. Commitment is what it is, just a
- 1:18pure commitment. They haven't been like
- 1:21immediately following necessarily, but we're doing
- 1:23what we can given the circumstances.
- 1:25Nate's currently in his. Car parks outside of work.
- 1:29This. Forewarning, I don't know how I
- 1:33sound. I think I sound good to you.
- 1:35I'm on an air pod and I know we have like, oddly enough, there's
- 1:42a little airport next to my house.
- 1:46Sure enough, there's an airport right next to work as well.
- 1:49So if you hear a jet flying over it and into the Scottsdale
- 1:53airport, don't blame me. This is commitment.
- 1:57I told you we're here. This is commitment.
- 1:58We're. Showing up.
- 2:00Honestly, just getting the pod in is more important to me than
- 2:03audio quality at this point. So let's just let's just jump
- 2:06right into it. Blake Snell, he told Scott.
- 2:11Boris, he said get it done, Get it done, Scott.
- 2:17There is no waiting around this this offseason.
- 2:20They got right into it. He said, go get me a deal,
- 2:24Scott. And here we are.
- 2:26Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Blake Snell to a five year, $182
- 2:29million contract. The amount of people weeping,
- 2:37weeping over the fact that the Dodgers got yet another premier
- 2:43free agent, it's unbelievable. I never thought I'd see this
- 2:50many tears over a team that people had pegged as a Mickey
- 2:56Mouse team no more than a month ago, two months ago.
- 3:06I mean, look, everybody's got a fair shot and I texted you last
- 3:15night, I'll be I'll be hand up. I'll be accountable right here.
- 3:20I said I'm sick of the Dodgers. I'm allowed to say that.
- 3:24I just got my heart broken from them.
- 3:27And then my follow up text was that's my jealousy talking,
- 3:33right? Because again, every team's got
- 3:36a chance to do this. Every team, they're all
- 3:40billionaires. They all have plenty of money.
- 3:45And with the balance of power, with revenue sharing, these
- 3:50teams that are that are low level small market teams that
- 3:53they could they cry poor, they're not poor.
- 3:57Any teams have the capability of doing this.
- 4:00So I'm upset because I'm jealous.
- 4:06I'm not upset that they did it yet again because everybody's
- 4:10got a chance to do this. It's it's worth repeating.
- 4:16If you've listened to this podcast, you'd probably have a
- 4:19feeling as to what I'm about to say, but it's worth repeating.
- 4:24Stop being upset with the Los Angeles Dodgers for doing what
- 4:32you wish your team was doing. Don't be upset with the Dodgers
- 4:37because they find a, a, a premier talent.
- 4:40They go out and get them. They go out and trade for them.
- 4:42They go out and sign them. Whatever it is, whatever,
- 4:44whatever means they acquire said player, they just go out and do
- 4:49it. They utilize their resources to
- 4:52do that. Don't be upset with the Dodgers.
- 4:56Be upset with your team for not doing that.
- 5:00It's as simple as that. It really is.
- 5:04It really is that simple. It sucks that it's that simple,
- 5:07but it is. And all these people on here
- 5:09just talking about their This is why we need a salary cap.
- 5:14No, This is why we need a salary floor.
- 5:18Yeah. And if you can't understand why
- 5:22that is, you are probably a fan of a team that's just unwilling
- 5:28to spend said money that they have.
- 5:32But they're not going to. They're not going to let you
- 5:34know that they have. Yeah, that's so true.
- 5:41How do we feel? I mean, just getting into what
- 5:48their structure looks like roster wise with Shohei coming
- 5:52back on the bump. You're talking Glass now as your
- 5:574. So at as of right now, rotation
- 6:04options include Blake Snell, the newest addition to the Los
- 6:08Angeles Dodgers, Shohei Otani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glass,
- 6:14now Dustin May, Tony Gonsalin, Bobby Miller and Clayton Kershaw
- 6:22should he come back. And then you got the guys that
- 6:27like have kind of cracked into the scene a little bit, you
- 6:31know, like you're you're you're Gavin Stones, your Emma
- 6:34Sheehan's, like you've got guys that are like kind of knocking
- 6:38on the door a little bit. It is insane, man.
- 6:43It really is. It's.
- 6:45It's gross. It's gross.
- 6:49But honestly, I'm at a point I had this thought today.
- 6:51I I'm like, you know what? I hope the Dodgers go out and
- 6:53sign a couple more premier free agents just to just to rub it in
- 6:58to the rest of baseball fans. And I'm not a Dodgers fan, but I
- 7:01at this rate, at this rate, I just want them to go do it so
- 7:04people can finally understand that like, oh, you mean all we
- 7:08have to do to acquire these players is, is spend money.
- 7:11Yeah, that's all we have to do. Then maybe we should, maybe our
- 7:15maybe our front office should or our ownership should should
- 7:19entertain that as an option because it looks like that's
- 7:21what the Dodgers are doing. So let's, let's give that a try,
- 7:24see if it works. Yeah, I mean, the tears.
- 7:31I I, I can't handle the tears. It's.
- 7:37This is, I mean look like they're chasing dynasty and I
- 7:42can appreciate it like it you're not.
- 7:45You have so many teams that when they win a World Series and you
- 7:51can go across sports, when they win a championship, they kind of
- 7:56just, I won't say punt, but it it's like releasing the the the
- 8:03air pressure a little bit. You know what I mean?
- 8:04It's letting some pressure out off the top and saying we just
- 8:08bought ourselves 5710 years before the conversation starts
- 8:13to build up the pressure again, right.
- 8:16And I I can appreciate a team in an organization doubling down
- 8:20and saying, let's just go make this a dynasty.
- 8:23Let's let's go get it another one.
- 8:26Let's let's get for this decade, you know, like and if that's
- 8:30what they're chasing, power to them props.
- 8:35And it looks like they will because when you talk about the
- 8:39core, not only are all these guys sitting smack dab in the
- 8:44middle of their prime, they're sitting smack dab in the middle
- 8:48or the beginning of their contracts.
- 8:52I don't think they're having to worry about anyone leaving
- 8:55anytime soon. And then it allows you to to to
- 9:01kind of play around with your talent in in the farm, right?
- 9:06Play around with, OK, you know, do we give some guys a chance at
- 9:11certain positions? Second base is one of those
- 9:14spots. Left field is one of those spots
- 9:16for them. You know, like what can we do?
- 9:19Can can we go make a a mid market move at the debt?
- 9:23Like it buys you a lot of flexibility of of what you can
- 9:27do when all of these other positions, all of these other
- 9:30spots on the roster are just nailed down and solidified.
- 9:35It makes the deadline very easy. It makes your first half of
- 9:40baseball very carefree of the season, right?
- 9:43Like if you did want to try with a couple names in your
- 9:45organization, just say, hey, let's see what you got.
- 9:49And if it doesn't work, whatever.
- 9:51We only have these spots to fill.
- 9:54If it's again, it's if you hate it, you're just jealous.
- 9:57And I, I'm jealous as a Yankees fan.
- 10:00I'm jealous because this was like the narrative of what the
- 10:04Yankees did my whole life, when in reality, they've never done
- 10:08it to this extent. And they're not done.
- 10:12It's not even December yet. We haven't even hit winter
- 10:14meetings. I'm hearing reports that they
- 10:17they want to still keep going on starting pitching.
- 10:21They're more than likely going to end up with Rokie Sasaki.
- 10:24So go ahead and just chalk that into the list of names that I I
- 10:28mentioned earlier in terms of starting pitching options.
- 10:32But to your point earlier, they're they're chasing the
- 10:34dynasty the the Los Angeles Dodgers are chasing the dynasty
- 10:38the Los Angeles Dodgers are chasing, are trying to replicate
- 10:42what the Yankees did in the 1990s and early 2000s.
- 10:46We haven't seen that since then. And that's what they're trying
- 10:49to replicate here. They're not trying.
- 10:50They're, they're not just OK, you know, shaking the monkey off
- 10:55the back of of the, the, the Mickey Mouse World Series of
- 10:592020 with this World Series that they just won.
- 11:02They're, they're not stopping there.
- 11:04They're looking at that World Series going great.
- 11:07We were, we'd, we felt validated with our 2020 World Series.
- 11:12But this is just for the people outside of outside of our
- 11:15clubhouse who maybe still were on the fence about that World
- 11:18Series. We went out this year, did what
- 11:20we had to do. So now we can lay that to rest.
- 11:23But like you said, they're not done.
- 11:25They're going to continue to add and and if you think that the
- 11:27somehow the Dodgers are done just because they went out and
- 11:30got snow, you're out of your mind.
- 11:31They they're probably, like I said, they're probably going to
- 11:34add Sasaki come January. I think it's like January 15th
- 11:38or or whenever that that deadline opens up and then
- 11:43they're probably going to go, you know, they're probably going
- 11:45to go out and sign another power bat it whether or not they
- 11:47retain the Oscar, who knows, But they're going to they're going
- 11:50to go out and and and add to the lineup because they're pitching
- 11:53already is disgusting. So it's like, OK, well, where
- 11:55elsewhere can we short things up?
- 11:58They're going to go add to the add to the lineup.
- 12:00Probably probably find another MVP out there somewhere that we
- 12:03don't even know about right now. That is going to hit us with
- 12:06breaking news at some point this offseason.
- 12:09But if you think the Dodgers are done, you've lost your mind.
- 12:12The Dodgers, I would argue, are probably just getting started
- 12:14because again, they're going to go get Sasaki and then they're
- 12:17going to continue to add weather before or after that.
- 12:21And it's we're going to get to the end of the offseason and
- 12:25there's more than likely going to be a laundry list of of moves
- 12:29of acquisitions that the Dodgers made.
- 12:31And we're going to be scratching our heads going, how is this
- 12:33possible? The answer is clear.
- 12:36They're willing to spend money. They're willing to spend money.
- 12:40And the, my, my question to people who, who are wondering
- 12:43like, why, how do they keep getting away with this?
- 12:47Did, did we really think that they were just going to spend?
- 12:50I tweeted this out last night. I was like, do we, did we think
- 12:52that the Dodgers were going to spend $0.00 this offseason?
- 12:55Like why does this come as a surprise?
- 12:57Right, because. In, in, in a, in that scenario
- 13:01that we talked about last episode where the report came
- 13:03out said that, you know, the Red Sox are interested in acquiring
- 13:082 of the the three headline arms between Freed Burns and Snell.
- 13:14It said there the report said that Red Sox wanted at least two
- 13:17of those guys. It was probably a safe
- 13:19assumption that the Dodgers were if if that is if that was the
- 13:24case, that they were going to get the third guy of that mix.
- 13:27But the Dodgers went went ahead and made the first move.
- 13:30They went out and snagged one of those 3, so like it.
- 13:35It shouldn't come as a surprise that they went out and got one
- 13:39of the one of the arms that were available.
- 13:41Well, it's also a flex that they're like, they're not.
- 13:44It's, it's a flex that they didn't need to wait for the Soto
- 13:47ball to drop. They didn't have to wait for
- 13:50that domino to fall because of how all of these contracts are
- 13:54structured. And that's something I want to
- 13:55get into too. What's keeping these teams from
- 14:00these deferred contracts or bonuses?
- 14:05Like what's keeping these teams to be able to space this out
- 14:08like you, this contract checked every box.
- 14:14If you're in the Snell camp, you got the longevity 'cause last
- 14:19year I think he was, I mean, there were reports of him
- 14:22wanting 456 years on a contract and the highest any of these
- 14:26offers were getting were three years.
- 14:29So number one, we can go down this path to #1 we can go ahead
- 14:35despite the rough first half. We can call the settling on a
- 14:41one year plus deal with the Giants as a success.
- 14:45We can call this somewhat bot job out of Scott Boris.
- 14:53And I think this lessens the blow a little bit.
- 14:56It's saying, you know what, like it?
- 14:57It paid off. Look at what we got now.
- 14:59So they got the five years, they got the 152.
- 15:04What is that AAV wise? Well, it's 182 five 182 / 5,
- 15:09yeah. The I was thinking, so 5052 is
- 15:13the is the bonus. That's what it was.
- 15:15Oh, right, right, yeah, the signing bonus 182 / 5 comes out
- 15:19to 36.4. Yeah.
- 15:22And then toss in the 52 and the 52 are going to be, it's going
- 15:28to be deferred. Do we have the details on the
- 15:30deferred yet? 62 mil is going to be deferred.
- 15:3462. So 1/3 of that, give or take, is
- 15:40going to be deferred. So it's is it, is it just being
- 15:46categorized as a signing bonus? When it's.
- 15:53Deferred. The deal itself, looking at sort
- 15:57of what we know, or at least the last I've seen, includes no opt
- 16:01outs, 62 mil of deferred money and a $52 million signing bonus.
- 16:08So it's all of it and the signing bonus is do not count
- 16:13towards salary. That would be my understanding.
- 16:19See, like, I feel like other teams are capable of doing this
- 16:22and they're not doing it, and it just makes you wonder why.
- 16:28It's just it's, it's yet another style of of handling contracts.
- 16:34It's creative. Yeah, another creative angle at
- 16:37handling contracts that we're seeing in Major League Baseball.
- 16:39You look back to what the, what the Braves were doing a handful
- 16:42of years ago where they, they're signing these guys when they're
- 16:45like nine years old. They're saying, Hey, we're going
- 16:48to give you life changing money. You haven't even hit puberty
- 16:52yet, but we're going to give you life changing money.
- 16:54We're going to lock you into our franchise for the next dozen
- 16:57years. And you're going to, you're
- 17:00going to make a, a, a, a healthy donation to the Braves
- 17:04foundation. That's that's their system.
- 17:07They fed they and we talked about it.
- 17:09That, that what the Braves did then and what I'm sure they're
- 17:14still trying to do now. That was the first taste of
- 17:19like, how do they keep getting away with this?
- 17:22Because if you remember those contracts at the time, well, I
- 17:25mean, looking back, they still are, but they're, they're
- 17:27criminal given, given the talent, given the, the amount of
- 17:31money that you're signing to said talent.
- 17:35But now this seems to be the new wave of like deferrals and, and,
- 17:40and signing bonuses and, and just creative ways of locking
- 17:43guys and locking in premier talent, but also keeping
- 17:47yourself away from the tippy top of of the payroll across the
- 17:54league. Because if you look back at at
- 17:562024, people can sit there and say, you know, Yamamoto Otani,
- 18:00Bets, Freeman, all all that they I think they were 5th or 6th in
- 18:05all of baseball in payroll. So it's like they're you're
- 18:09you're staying away from the tippy top.
- 18:10So if you want to complain about payroll, maybe look to some
- 18:13other teams around the league who, who are actually abusing
- 18:19said payroll. I don't know.
- 18:21Well, my. Advice to other teams, because
- 18:23obviously they listen to me and, and reach out for my advice all
- 18:27the time naturally is to get this deferred money stuff in
- 18:34while you can get it in while you can.
- 18:37I think it's, I think this is going to be addressed in the
- 18:39next CBA, whether it's some type of limitation on the number of
- 18:48guys you can do this with on, on each team, something like that.
- 18:55I could see there's some type of, because this right now is
- 18:59very much a loophole. I can get you your money, I can
- 19:02get you your money, but we're going to space it out and, and
- 19:05you're going to retire handsomely.
- 19:07So it's, I, I think then not to mention what it does, you know,
- 19:14flexibility wise for your current team, it gives them a
- 19:17lot of wiggle room to go make other moves and, and to secure
- 19:21that and look like that's a part of the, that's a part of the
- 19:26conversation now. And I'm just curious to see how
- 19:31many other teams do it. And there's certain names that
- 19:34I, you know, like, I don't think, I don't see Soto doing
- 19:38this. I don't see him.
- 19:40I think he wants it now. I think he wants it upfront.
- 19:42I think Boris wants it upfront. But Soto might be the last of
- 19:49the 500 + 1,000,000. He's gonna go north of 6, I
- 19:54think, but it's probably the last of those of that breed
- 19:58because I think this is the way contracts are going to start to
- 20:00be structured if there isn't some type of limitation.
- 20:05I think you and I have both maintained that Soto is not
- 20:08going to entertain the, the slightest hint of deferred
- 20:15money. The only situation or scenario
- 20:18in which I could see Juan Soto doing that would be is if you
- 20:22just Steve Cohen situation. If this bidding war heats up
- 20:26even more so than it already is. Because we, we, as of right now,
- 20:29we know that there's, I think 5 offers on the table and there's
- 20:33already been reports that bids have been already been increased
- 20:36by, by those five teams. The only, the only scenario, as
- 20:40I was saying, that I see Soto even entertaining the concept of
- 20:43deferred money, is if this bidding war just gets out of
- 20:45hand and then a guy like Steve Cohen comes in and says, I'm
- 20:51going to offer you the most asinine contracts that anybody
- 21:01could possibly expect this offseason.
- 21:03Plus. The deferred plus deferred money
- 21:08and I would, I wouldn't put it past somebody like that.
- 21:11I, I really wouldn't. But I, I, I think I would
- 21:15venture to say that Soto's going to want that upfront.
- 21:17And so if that's what's, if that's what's being discussed
- 21:19from his camp in these, in these negotiations, you're probably
- 21:23going to be closer to like the six 600 million number and then
- 21:29yeah, total and then have it predominantly upfront.
- 21:33That's the only way I see that playing out.
- 21:35Yeah, yeah. Contract wise, I mean, how do
- 21:41you think this? What does this do for Burns and
- 21:45Freed? I mean, what was we?
- 21:54I feel like we just, we just talked about this last episode
- 21:58or, or touched on it, but what, what was Snell projected to get?
- 22:10Burns is projected 7 years 200. Snell was projected 5/1/60 so.
- 22:19Right on the money. Well, 182 remember, not 52682.
- 22:25Yeah, I mean within, within a couple million each year.
- 22:31I think that's pretty right on the money.
- 22:35Wow, man, that's what, 20? Yeah, 22 million, but I mean, I
- 22:46don't know, I, I feel like this is a, the hefty deal for Snell.
- 22:50I feel like this is going to, I don't know.
- 22:53I, I think the fact that he came, he came off the board this
- 22:57early and we talked about this like you and I had had
- 23:02speculated that or we, we had anticipated that there was going
- 23:08to be a deal going down like or maybe multiple before.
- 23:11Yeah. Before Christmas and this
- 23:13happened, this goes down a day or two before Thanksgiving.
- 23:17So I, I wonder because of the the, the swift nature of of this
- 23:23transaction with Boris, I wonder if that expedites the process
- 23:28for some of these other guys. We talked about some of these
- 23:30teams having a pivot if you're, if you're in on a guy like
- 23:33Blake's. Now we, we know that the
- 23:36Orioles, the Red Sox, and I want to say the Giants were also in
- 23:45reportedly. So you just wonder like where,
- 23:48how quickly those teams are pivoting because you, you would
- 23:51venture to say that the teams that are in on a guy like Snell
- 23:54are, are also in. And we've, we've heard reports
- 23:56of, of teams like the Red Sox in on the in on Snell also in on
- 24:00these other guys. So it's going to, it's going to
- 24:03quickly determine, I would imagine, or it's going to, it's
- 24:07going to influence, I should say, where these guys end up and
- 24:11how quickly because I don't think a lot of people are
- 24:14anticipating this going down this quickly.
- 24:18Yeah, I mean it, it also does make you think that a lot of
- 24:26those like mid, mid level guys, you know, like like a Jack
- 24:31Flaherty that are probably going to have their their trigger
- 24:36pulled a little bit quicker. You know, if if burns, if burns,
- 24:41if freed want to play that waiting game, just kind of let
- 24:44everything come in. I think there's teams that like
- 24:49are are really needing to go get their guys.
- 24:52I think there's some glaring holes in a lot of rotations and
- 24:55they need to go get their guys. And so this just makes you
- 24:59wonder, like, how much leverage do they have as those teams
- 25:04start to fill up their spots with more affordable guys at a
- 25:08lower rate? You know?
- 25:12But this makes me think that Burns is definitely getting over
- 25:162. I think there's no doubt about
- 25:19it that he's getting over 200. Now I would agree.
- 25:24Been freed. I mean I've always, I like
- 25:26freed, but I've always kind of been on the fence just injury
- 25:29wise. Would you say that projection
- 25:31was? For freed.
- 25:34Yeah. They have him pegged at six
- 25:36years, 156 mil. Yeah, see, I feel like that's a
- 25:39little high. I'm just.
- 25:42Over 6 though. Yeah, 6, I mean, helps.
- 25:45I'm just, I'm worried about the injuries, but yeah, I mean,
- 25:50look, this is this is excellent. This is excellent.
- 25:54This is good for baseball. These types of steps and moves,
- 25:57these types of contracts. I know if you're not a Dodgers
- 26:00fan, it seems like it's the worst thing ever.
- 26:02But truth is, I mean, superstars need to get paid and it needs to
- 26:11happen this time of year. It needs to happen this early.
- 26:13Last year was a weird anomaly that I hope doesn't get
- 26:16repeated. It needs to happen this early.
- 26:20And you know, I think they can learn from how bad it was last
- 26:26year and how quickly the guy that experienced it wanted to
- 26:29get something done this year. So also, I don't know why we
- 26:34were so surprised he was staying in California.
- 26:37I mean this, it's, that's his, you know, he's home.
- 26:43Well, no, he's stay there. He's a Washington guy.
- 26:47Well, he's a West Coast guy. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:50And. Then I think he's, he's getting
- 26:52to stay on the West Coast. I mean, I, I think that's what
- 26:54the, the Giants contract was. You know, we, we saw him spend
- 26:59time in San Diego. It's it's he's just making his
- 27:01rounds, staying put. Yeah, I mean, you, you look at
- 27:10you look at how all this went down, you look at what he got
- 27:13and you have no choice but to say, you know, at least for
- 27:17Blake Snell, mission accomplished.
- 27:18Like he this is what he's been trying to get for the last, call
- 27:22it, 3, three years, 3 plus years.
- 27:27And he's been tinkering around. Didn't pan out exactly the way
- 27:31he he thought it would prior to signing with the Giants.
- 27:35You know, he gets that, he gets that Cy Young in in San Diego
- 27:38and you're thinking, all right, I'm in the driver's seat.
- 27:40I'm going to be able to command finally what I think I'm worth
- 27:44now. Didn't pan out that way.
- 27:46And then he he sort of bets on himself.
- 27:49You could call it with the Giants with the multiple opt
- 27:51outs. And then he ends up with this
- 27:53deal. And I think now finally he can,
- 27:56he can say I finally got the payday that I was after and now
- 28:00I can just go out there and pitch and he's going to do it
- 28:02like we talked about, he's going to do it for a team that's just
- 28:05disgustingly stacked right now. Yeah, it's crazy to think about,
- 28:13it really is. It's awesome.
- 28:17Sucks all in the same, the same way is what it is.
- 28:22I mean, the Dodgers, you look at you look at the narratives that
- 28:26they came up when when they're starting pitchers were going
- 28:29down with with various injuries. And then that was the whole
- 28:32thing we talked about going into the World Series or really the
- 28:34postseason. It's like this, this Dodgers
- 28:36team is not going to be able to hang because they just don't
- 28:39they're not healthy right now. And it's almost as if they took
- 28:42that personally and they're like, OK, we're going to get
- 28:45through this off there. We're going to get through this
- 28:46postseason. We're going to win a World
- 28:48Series in the process and then we're going to go out and add a
- 28:52two time Cy Young winner. Oh yeah.
- 28:54And by the way, those guys that were down, they're coming back
- 28:57healthy next year. Oh yeah.
- 28:58And by the way, we're slated to have Otani back on the pump.
- 29:01It's like even if things were to repeat in terms of health for
- 29:07the rotation in, in LA, you just got more reinforcements and more
- 29:13as we talked about with Sasaki are likely coming.
- 29:17More, more reinforcements are, are likely coming.
- 29:19And it's just, it's, it's just, it's an impressive display.
- 29:24Call it what you want. It's an impressive display of
- 29:27roster construction of again, a willingness to spend money and a
- 29:33willingness to just put all your cards on the table and say, this
- 29:39is what we're trying to set out to do and this is what we're
- 29:42willing to do to make that happen.
- 29:47And like I said, I don't think they're done.
- 29:49And if you, if you do think you're done, you're out of your
- 29:52mind because they, as we said, are chasing a dynasty at this
- 29:56point. They're not, they're not
- 29:57satisfied with just one or I should say, you know,
- 30:02legitimate, call it what you want.
- 30:03I'm not, I'm just saying what people say.
- 30:05I'm not, I'm not calling 2020 illegitimate, but they're,
- 30:09they're basically saying from this point forward, we're not
- 30:12happy with just 2024. We want to turn that we want to
- 30:15be the first repeat champion since the Yankees back at the
- 30:18the turn of the century. And then we want to, we want to
- 30:22go beyond that. We want to win 3-4 in a row and.
- 30:25This is exactly like, props to the Dodgers and props to Otani,
- 30:30because this is exactly what they, I'm assuming, told Otani.
- 30:35And that's, and this is exactly why Otani said, I'll do the
- 30:38deferred stuff. Let's save the money and go do
- 30:44this and go do this and go do this.
- 30:47So this is it. Like you're, you're you made a
- 30:49promise to your, I don't, I can't even say superstar.
- 30:53I feel like superstar is such an understatement.
- 30:55But you made a promise to your legend and Shohei Otani and
- 31:00they're and they're living up to it.
- 31:02And there's no way they're going to stop now.
- 31:04So 4 legitimate Cy Young contenders in that rotation.
- 31:12That's not a stretch. That's not an outrageous
- 31:16statement. 4 legitimate contenders.
- 31:20I mean, multiple winners, but in terms of like perennial threats
- 31:26moving forward, like, yeah, it's, it's yeah.
- 31:31Oh my goodness. I don't, I don't even know
- 31:33really what to say anymore about this team.
- 31:35They, it's like in a weird way, they continue to surprise, but
- 31:39it in a weird way, it's not a surprise.
- 31:42It's like, did they really just do that?
- 31:45Like you and I were tweeting back and forth like, wow, like
- 31:47sending back the shocked face emoji.
- 31:49But then it's like, you do you step back and you go, should we
- 31:53have even been surprised? Like this?
- 31:55This I I feel like was going to happen all along.
- 31:59Yep, Yep, Yep. Unreal, unreal.
- 32:05Last thing here before we hop off this emergency pod here we
- 32:09we sort of touched on it already but as we alluded to I think at
- 32:13the end of last episode, this is Juan Soto offer week and as I as
- 32:19I mentioned earlier I think. I'm reading week one.
- 32:22Have you been reading that? I'm reading that.
- 32:24This is like there's multiple layers.
- 32:27Oh yeah, oh, yeah, this is. This is.
- 32:30Let's weed out the pretenders this week and then next week is
- 32:33like the legit guys. Yeah, we are.
- 32:36We are just getting started, I would imagine, because you have
- 32:40to, you have to keep in mind the winter medians are what I think
- 32:45like the second week in December, like the 9th or 9th to
- 32:48the 12th, I think. So you have to imagine that.
- 32:53And I saw I saw people talking about how, you know, Boris is
- 32:56going to want to get down there and just put his, his Golden Boy
- 33:01up. I mean, not not that he isn't
- 33:03already center stage right now in the baseball world, but he
- 33:05he's going to want to make that the absolute main attraction and
- 33:10he's going to want to ramp these, these this bidding war up
- 33:14even more so than it already is. But like I said, currently has
- 33:17reportedly 5 offers from from teams including the Red Sox,
- 33:22Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, and Blue Jays.
- 33:26You mentioned pretenders. I think we can think we can rule
- 33:30out the Blue Jays. We may have already.
- 33:32We may have already talked about this, but I think we can rule
- 33:36out the Blue Jays. I don't know though.
- 33:38You, you just never know. You never know.
- 33:41You never know how desperate A-Team like that is going to
- 33:43get, similar to the Giants where you just continue to miss out
- 33:46and miss out. And it's like, OK, you know
- 33:49what? We heard that Steve Cohen is
- 33:50willing to go 50 million over the top bid.
- 33:54Let's just, let's blow the lid off this thing and we'll offer
- 33:5865. Like I, I, I don't know.
- 34:01I, I don't, I just don't know what the Blue Jays are, are, how
- 34:05far they're willing to go. But in terms of track records, I
- 34:11would like to, I would like to just go ahead and rule out the
- 34:15Blue Jays. And it sounds like the Red Sox
- 34:18are a little bit more legitimate than maybe we might think.
- 34:22I can't buy into it. I think that's, I think that's
- 34:26eye wash. I think that.
- 34:28But The thing is though, I is, I don't think this, I don't think
- 34:31this is John Heyman BS that we've seen in the in the past,
- 34:35like we're seeing it from different sources.
- 34:38No, I think this is I think this is Soto and Boris BS.
- 34:44I think this is so. Let's let's squeeze every dollar
- 34:46we can out of out of the Yankees because like, it's one thing to
- 34:50lose him to the Mets. It's a whole nother thing to
- 34:58lose him to the Red Sox. And I think that there's a
- 35:02reason why we're not hearing anything about other teams.
- 35:06And this is the only thing we're hearing.
- 35:08I think it's I think it's a little eye wash.
- 35:10I think it's to squeeze the Yankees a little bit more and
- 35:15and to really kind of scare them a little bit.
- 35:18That's that's my that's my two cents.
- 35:22Not saying that the Red Sox couldn't sign them, but I do
- 35:28think it is more of that than anything else.
- 35:31Well, tell me, give me, give me your list then of the five teams
- 35:34that have offers on the table right now for Juan Soto, rank
- 35:38the likeliness in terms of where you think he lands.
- 35:48I'd say Mets #1, Yankees #2 I'd say there's a little bit of a
- 36:00gap between the two spot and the three and the rest, you know, I
- 36:08still probably put the Dodgers ahead of the ahead.
- 36:11Of the man, yeah, I was, I was, I was curious which, where you
- 36:15going to slot, who you're going to slot at 3:00?
- 36:17Because that that to me says a lot.
- 36:19And if other people feel the same way, that says a lot about
- 36:22the how they view the legitimacy of these Red Sox rumors.
- 36:26Well, the one thing is, is that like you got to consider, we
- 36:30don't have to spend a ton of time in this.
- 36:31But like, I think he's smart enough to understand in Boston,
- 36:41you're going to have to split those two lefties up.
- 36:43You're going to have to have Soto Endeavour split up.
- 36:46So is there a righty bat that's willing, you know, a big enough
- 36:50bat to still provide that protection?
- 36:57And he you saw what he was able to do when when judge is in the
- 37:01conversation, I think he pairs really well with another righty.
- 37:06So, you know, when you look at the Mets and and talk about
- 37:08potentially bringing back Alonso, like that'll work, you
- 37:14know, So I don't know. That's part of the equation for
- 37:18me in. Fact the whole lefty righty
- 37:22thing is. It's definitely overblown.
- 37:25Grossly overblown, but that's just me.
- 37:28But it is a thing, and it's more so a thing with with lefties
- 37:32than it is for righties. I think back-to-back righties is
- 37:35what it is, but back-to-back lefties is too crazy.
- 37:43You got any? I mean, it's purely a guess.
- 37:46Like we have nothing to really go off of, but like, what is
- 37:48your gut saying in terms of announcement from Soto?
- 37:54Timing wise. You think we see before
- 37:56Christmas? Yeah, I think, I think the, I
- 38:01think you're right. I think it's the the winter
- 38:04meetings week I think 2 weeks from now.
- 38:09You think we cap off the winter medians with a with a Soto
- 38:12destination announcement? Potentially or or right before
- 38:19like at the beginning of the meetings and he gets showcased
- 38:22around and I don't know man. I'm ready for it to drop though.
- 38:32I got nervous last night. We were at small group Bible
- 38:36study and and I was like my phone was blown up in my pocket
- 38:40and I was getting it was ended up being like a bunch of work
- 38:42emails and a couple texts and like a group chat.
- 38:46But I was like the amount of times where I felt like the
- 38:48notification vibration and then a text and it was just boom boom
- 38:52boom for like 5 minutes. And I was like, if Soto signed
- 38:55somewhere and I'm in this freaking Bible study having to
- 39:00hold it together, dude, like. I was in the middle of a three
- 39:03hour movie and and we had texted I or I was telling you the other
- 39:09day, I was like, it's wicked. It's a musical.
- 39:13I'm going to go just to, to hang out with, with Meredith and her
- 39:16sister, just kind of, you know, be a team player.
- 39:20But I told you I was like, there's a, there's a good
- 39:22likelihood that I'm going to have to happen to be getting
- 39:27free agency updates. And sure enough, I, I flipped my
- 39:30phone over and you, you know, something goes down when you see
- 39:33those red siren emojis. I'm like, oh boy, who just
- 39:36signed and it was Blake's now. And I had to wait like another
- 39:40two hours before I can even like, you know, look into
- 39:44reports and all that. But that's sort of where we're
- 39:47at with things. And we're probably going to have
- 39:50to do an emergency pod if, if Soto drops anytime soon.
- 39:55I mean, whenever it happens, I'm sure we will.
- 39:56But if it happens soon, we'll we'll be doing what we're doing
- 40:03right now. So that about covers.
- 40:06It went pretty in depth on the snow thing.
- 40:09And just a little bit of an update on the Soto news, but I
- 40:13guess now we go. This, like you said, this was
- 40:16the domino. I think that we're we're waiting
- 40:19or or one of the dominoes that we needed to we needed to fall
- 40:22for things to really get going. So, you know, I'm really looking
- 40:26forward to the free to the Red Sox announcement coming soon.
- 40:31I would imagine it's. Not a crazy.
- 40:34Take, you know, maybe, maybe throw to Oscar in there, maybe
- 40:37do a joint press conference. We'll see.
- 40:40But more, more moves are coming, I would imagine, in the very,
- 40:45very near future and I'm looking forward to it.
- 40:48I agree. Happy Turkey Day folks.
- 40:51Thankful for all of you and thankful for you guy.
- 40:56Thankful for you as well. Thankful for you.
- 41:00Have a great Thanksgiving, folks.
- 41:03Gogo chasing curveballs. Love you and as always, looking
- 41:05forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 41:07Until next time, stay filthy.
