Speaker 2: News Today should be a little quieter weatherwise, although we
1:39
Speaker 2: do hold onto the chance of showers and storms throughout
1:42
Speaker 2: the day. According to Metro News mediaologist Brian Hughes, we
1:45
Speaker 2: do have that floodwatch that is rolling through Friday. High
1:49
Speaker 2: today in the mid eighties, but with humidity is going
1:51
Speaker 2: to feel warmer than that. Some scattered storms around tonight
1:54
Speaker 2: low's only below seventies. Heavy rain late in the day
1:56
Speaker 2: tomorrow and into the evening mid eighties again feel warmer
2:00
Speaker 2: than that, though and heavy downpours on Friday, but Brian
2:03
Speaker 2: says by the time Saturday gets here, we may finally
2:06
Speaker 2: dry out a little bit dry on Sunday as well,
2:08

2:26
Speaker 2: Chad Robinson, a councilman from Ward twenty. He's going to
2:29
Speaker 2: join us to talk about that later in the show.
2:31
Speaker 2: Also today, our nineteenth annual one oh seven three The
2:33
Speaker 2: Beat Backpack Attack, sponsored by the Solango Law lineup, begins
2:37
Speaker 2: at three thirty this afternoon in front of our station

2:42
Speaker 2: out the backpacks at four thirty. Very important kids have
2:46
Speaker 2: to be present. Okay, there's none of this, So I
2:49
Speaker 2: got three kids that I'll know. We actually got to
2:51
Speaker 2: see the kid and uh, not only the backpacks, but
2:54
Speaker 2: all kinds of other cool stuff is well, we're talking
2:56
Speaker 2: about that with Logan Scott coming up a little bit

3:12
Speaker 2: Shuns onund to good from the City of South Charleston.
3:14
Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, welcome to the show.
3:15
Speaker 4: Good morning, good to be here.
3:17
Speaker 2: It's that time again. It's sign for Summer Fest.
3:19
Speaker 5: YEP kicks off today.
3:20
Speaker 2: How long is you know, off the top of your head,
3:22
Speaker 2: how long Summer Fest live?
3:23
Speaker 5: Twenty six years?
3:24
Speaker 2: Now twenty six years? Okay, all right, we'll get to
3:27
Speaker 2: the music in the moment, because that's always a highlight.
3:28
Speaker 2: But I do want to talk about some of the
3:30
Speaker 2: other stuff.
3:30
Speaker 1: Now.
3:30
Speaker 2: It starts today and we're again holding Brian he is
3:34
Speaker 2: accountable here on the weather. Four point thirty is a
3:36
Speaker 2: start time, Dawn, I believe right.
3:38
Speaker 5: Four to thirty the vendors kind of start, they'll start
3:40
Speaker 5: coming to the bands will start playing six pm.
3:42
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, we'll get to the bands in the
3:44
Speaker 2: moment we talk about some of the food vendors you have.
3:46
Speaker 5: Yeah, some of the food vendors will have we have
3:47
Speaker 5: just drinks with search and lemonade. They'll also have popcorn.
3:51
Speaker 5: His son does just popcorn. Actually he's actually he's what
3:55
Speaker 5: that's at the farmer's market as well. Well, we all
3:58
Speaker 5: will have some barbecue. We'll have some I believe we
4:03
Speaker 5: have mad concessions there as well this year, and they
4:07
Speaker 5: sort of serve like sweets and stuff and baked goods
4:10
Speaker 5: and some other foods and stuff. But well, we got
4:13
Speaker 5: about six or seven food vendors.
4:15
Speaker 2: Just let's go back to the barbecue for a moment.
4:17
Speaker 2: You had me at barbecue. So where's the barbecue from?
4:20
Speaker 6: Do you know?
4:20
Speaker 5: Right?
4:21
Speaker 4: Just just getting piggy with it.
4:23
Speaker 2: Okay, they're very good. I've had this stuff before, one
4:25
Speaker 2: of the more popular ones here in in the area.
4:27
Speaker 2: Getting pinky with it all right. And you've got a
4:29
Speaker 2: kid zone and you get snow cones.
4:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, snow cones free. It's all free. Free, snow cones, free,
4:35
Speaker 5: face painting, free. Inflatables will have that as well.
4:37
Speaker 2: And so this is something as the kids get ready
4:39
Speaker 2: to head back to school, you know, next week or
4:41
Speaker 2: the week after, it depends on where you are in there.
4:43
Speaker 2: Cabal County actually starts today, you know, so a great opportunity.
4:47
Speaker 2: Even how I see Summer Fest, we don't want to put,
4:49
Speaker 2: you know, get ahead of ourselves. But anytime I see
4:51
Speaker 2: Summerfest on the calendar, I start thinking, Okay, summers starting
4:54
Speaker 2: to wind down just a little bit, and this is
4:56
Speaker 2: like one of the one of the last arise of summer.
4:58
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think it's it's one of those events
5:00
Speaker 5: it's good to kind of come to and enjoy yourselves,
5:04
Speaker 5: get ready to kind of get in the swing of
5:05
Speaker 5: things for school and stuff.
5:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, and so this is an event that is designed
5:09
Speaker 2: again for the entire family. And you're right there, right
5:12
Speaker 2: in the heart of South Charleston on near the Mound,
5:15
Speaker 2: and that's where everything is music tonight, the Detonators at
5:19
Speaker 2: six and Non Friction today talk about them.
5:21
Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, So they'll start at six pm and then
5:24
Speaker 5: Non Fix will go on at eight pm. And then Friday,
5:28
Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Thursday, we have the Exiles and then we
5:31
Speaker 5: have the Motortown All Stars. Friday will be the seventy
5:35
Speaker 5: seven Experience and then straight on.
5:37
Speaker 2: Now the send let me back up. The seventy seven
5:39
Speaker 2: experience is kind of like music that is inspired by
5:42
Speaker 2: the Eagles. We want to understand and straight on, of course,
5:44
Speaker 2: that was a big hit for the group. Part. This
5:46
Speaker 2: is a Heart tribute bank, the Heart Tribute band. Yes,
5:48
Speaker 2: all right, continue, Yeah.
5:49
Speaker 5: And then Saturday we get into Josh Pantry and then
5:53
Speaker 5: we'll end it with Rick K road Trip.
5:56
Speaker 2: And Josh Pantry. I mean, we don't need to talk
5:57
Speaker 2: about Josh Pantry. I mean, this guy is just everywhere
5:59
Speaker 2: around here and he's absolutely fantastic. He plays at every
6:02
Speaker 2: big event around here. He was a Woody Fest a
6:05
Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago. I mean, the guy just does
6:07
Speaker 2: a little bit of everything. And Rick Ka, I mean
6:10
Speaker 2: I've known rick for years. Of course, for you many
6:13
Speaker 2: years was Rick K and the All Nighters, and then
6:15
Speaker 2: he's had several different variations of the band. But I'll
6:18
Speaker 2: just say this, if you've never seen Rick K, this
6:21
Speaker 2: guy is a full on entertainer. The music and his
6:24
Speaker 2: band are fantastic, but he himself is just such a
6:28
Speaker 2: great entertainer, incredibly popular and has been doing it in
6:31
Speaker 2: West Virginia for a long time.
6:33
Speaker 5: Sean, Yeah, and he actually gets into the crowd too,
6:35
Speaker 5: interact crowd as well, So he's great.
6:39
Speaker 2: You cannot go to a Rick K show and set
6:43
Speaker 2: in your seat. You will be up. You like party
6:45
Speaker 2: music and like dance music, you know that sort of thing,
6:47
Speaker 2: just good time stuff. Does a lot of oldies in there.
6:50
Speaker 2: I mean I've heard him do everything from the fifties
6:52
Speaker 2: and sixties all the way up to more modern stuff.
6:55
Speaker 2: He's fantastic. I mean, nobody works a crowd. He gets
6:58
Speaker 2: people going like Rick K does. Yep. Uh So again,
7:01
Speaker 2: everything we'll get underway later today. I do want to
7:03
Speaker 2: talk about a couple of other things in South Charleston
7:05
Speaker 2: before we get back to a summer fest. You you
7:08
Speaker 2: were on with me a couple of weeks ago. You
7:09
Speaker 2: had the Almost Having Pickle Festival. How did that go?
7:12
Speaker 5: That went very well, we have. That's been the largest
7:16
Speaker 5: crowd we've had so far. At the market Saturday, we
7:19
Speaker 5: asked that we estimated around thirty five hundred people came.
7:23
Speaker 5: It was it was just it was just a very
7:25
Speaker 5: good turnout. Everyone had fun. You know, everyone really came out.
7:30
Speaker 5: I mean it's it's it's just incredible to see how
7:32
Speaker 5: many people came out, and you know, it was it was.
7:35
Speaker 5: It was all about pickles.
7:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean how many pickles vendors did you have having?
7:38
Speaker 5: Oh we ended up having twenty that had pickle themed.
7:41
Speaker 2: Yeah items, Yeah, and it was really I know, our
7:44
Speaker 2: sister station ninety eight seven Mountain Steve Animal was there,
7:47
Speaker 2: stuff in his stuff in it. I was gonna say
7:49
Speaker 2: his pie hole stuff and his pickle holes, you know,
7:51
Speaker 2: with uh with with all the pickles. But it was
7:53
Speaker 2: a great time. He had a lot of great entertainment
7:55
Speaker 2: there as well. And there's always something going on in
7:56
Speaker 2: South Charleston. Once you get through Summerfest, then what's next
8:00
Speaker 2: on the Farmer's Market is continuing.
8:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, So the next thing we'll have as far as
8:04
Speaker 5: city events will be the man Arch and christ Festival
8:08
Speaker 5: downtown on September fifth.
8:10
Speaker 2: Okay, we'll have you on again to talk about that.
8:13
Speaker 2: But let's get back to Summer Fest. And when how
8:15
Speaker 2: long does the farmers Market I mean, do you guess
8:18
Speaker 2: close down or do you keep going?
8:19
Speaker 5: We're year round, so we're after Christmas Market, we just
8:24
Speaker 5: go to Saturdays only for January February marks but every
8:28
Speaker 5: starting April Okay.
8:30
Speaker 2: For the rest of the fall, it's just your regular time, right, yeah,
8:32
Speaker 2: all right, okay, and we'll make sure people get out
8:34
Speaker 2: there because you guys always got stuff going on out there.
8:37
Speaker 2: All right, let's get back to summer Fest again. Your
8:40
Speaker 2: food trucks, Sean are gonna start arriving setting up about
8:43
Speaker 2: four thirty years. So today you got some delicious food
8:45
Speaker 2: out there. You got the kids Zone going on, and
8:47
Speaker 2: the kid Zone going on all all four days, days,
8:50
Speaker 2: all four days, and go over to the music again
8:52
Speaker 2: with it.
8:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, So tonight we'll kick it off with the Detonators,
8:55
Speaker 5: and then Non Friction Thursday, the Exiles, and then the
8:58
Speaker 5: Motortown All Stars, Friday, the seventy seven Experience and then
9:01
Speaker 5: straight on and then Saturday Josh Pantry and Rick k
9:05
Speaker 5: And we also have our drone light show Friday night.
9:08
Speaker 2: I forgot about that.
9:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, talk are works Saturday night and then the car
9:11
Speaker 5: show Saturday morning eight am.
9:12
Speaker 2: All right, So talk about this drone show. You and
9:14
Speaker 2: I were talking about it with Ron off the air
9:16
Speaker 2: to talk about this drone show.
9:17
Speaker 5: Yes, I believe this is our third year doing the
9:21
Speaker 5: Drone Show, and you know, it's just one of those things.
9:24
Speaker 5: It's kind of like fireworks, but it's a light show.
9:26
Speaker 5: In a sense, and you know, we always get a
9:29
Speaker 5: great turnout. It was definitely a great addition to Summerfest.
9:33
Speaker 2: Yeah. And in the car show, where do people saying
9:35
Speaker 2: you' need to sign up for that ahead of time
9:37
Speaker 2: or just show up?
9:37
Speaker 4: You can register?
9:38
Speaker 5: Yes, Okay, register go to CVB website.
9:40
Speaker 2: Ok, CVB website, but you do need to do that
9:43
Speaker 2: ahead of time.
9:44
Speaker 1: Yes.
9:44
Speaker 2: And you got how many cars you generally have in
9:46
Speaker 2: this car.
9:47
Speaker 5: I believe last year they had around two hundred, and
9:50
Speaker 5: they expect more this year because there's not as many
9:53
Speaker 5: events going on around this time, so they do expect
9:56
Speaker 5: that number to increase.
9:57
Speaker 2: And you'll be on Saturday, which they you know, they
10:00
Speaker 2: tell us that the weather should be good by the
10:01
Speaker 2: time Saturday rolls. Run it's it'd be a great time
10:03
Speaker 2: to come out. Give us a little thirty second if
10:06
Speaker 2: you will. Commercial for why families enjoy this event so much,
10:09
Speaker 2: why it's so popular.
10:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, So it's a it's a it's a four day free,
10:13
Speaker 5: family fun event with with lots of entertainment and you know,
10:19
Speaker 5: there's something for everyone, whether you're a kid or an adult,
10:22
Speaker 5: there's there's something for everyone to enjoy there. And most importantly,
10:27
Speaker 5: it's free. Yeah, so you know, we want to encourage
10:30
Speaker 5: folks to come out have a great time because that's
10:32
Speaker 5: what's about. You know, events like this is about quality
10:34
Speaker 5: of life, and that's what it's about for us.
10:37

14:54
Speaker 2: Bring in now. Charleston City Council Chad Robinson at Award twenty,
14:57
Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, Welcome to the show. Good morning Dave,
14:59
Speaker 2: thanks for having me back. Now, you and I were
15:01
Speaker 2: talking off the air and the name Brian Hughes came
15:03
Speaker 2: up and you said something about Brian and I know
15:07
Speaker 2: he's listening up in his office right now. I want
15:09
Speaker 2: you to say that again.
15:10
Speaker 9: I really I've noticed something since he started working here
15:13
Speaker 9: that the weather's just turned awful. I mean, I don't
15:16
Speaker 9: understand if it's just because he started here, but we've
15:19
Speaker 9: had just terrible weather since he started.
15:21
Speaker 2: That's true. I mean he actually started working for us
15:24
Speaker 2: on a day of a snowstorm here, and then the
15:27
Speaker 2: last couple of I mean it's rained since, like I
15:30
Speaker 2: don't know, April, like like NonStop, and yesterday was that
15:34
Speaker 2: way as well. But he says that today is going
15:38
Speaker 2: to be a little bit more calm, although we just
15:39
Speaker 2: had a shower roll through the Charleston Aary here about
15:41
Speaker 2: an hour or so ago, that there's still a chance
15:44
Speaker 2: of a pop up shower storm or two, but it's
15:46
Speaker 2: not going to be like it was yesterday. The outside now,
15:49
Speaker 2: hopefully it turns. It was wild out there yesterday. I
15:52
Speaker 2: mean I was one of the ones that's lucky enough
15:54
Speaker 2: to be able to spend pretty much all day in
15:56
Speaker 2: the building, but it was raining so hard that you
15:57
Speaker 2: could actually hear it inside the building. We lost our
16:00
Speaker 2: briefly at one point, and just some wild and I
16:04
Speaker 2: know your phone was probably ringing because as a city
16:06
Speaker 2: councilor because around Charleston, you know, it's not river issues
16:10
Speaker 2: per se as much as it is just drainage issues.
16:12
Speaker 2: And we saw a lot of that yesterday.
16:14
Speaker 9: Yeah, My ward's mostly hillside from Lower Downey all the
16:17
Speaker 9: way to South Ruffner and that water comes off that
16:19
Speaker 9: hill those hills and our carverts get overrun and the
16:24
Speaker 9: city was helpful and cleaning out some culverts and getting
16:27
Speaker 9: those to the water to get through. So it was
16:30
Speaker 9: a busy day for our city workers. You cover as
16:33
Speaker 9: you mentioned, the Kanaf City area, and this is being discussed.
16:36
Speaker 9: It's a proposed ordinance that would create a voluntary trespass
16:42
Speaker 9: enforcement type of deal. What is this and why do
16:46
Speaker 9: people feel it's needed. It was a program that was
16:50
Speaker 9: brought to me by one of our CPD officers from
16:53
Speaker 9: Ocean City, Maryland, and it's called Team Trespass Enforcement Authorization
16:59
Speaker 9: Program and allows property owners to their own if they
17:04
Speaker 9: want to participate, to sign a notarize affidavit to allow
17:08
Speaker 9: our CPD officers to enforce fully trespassing ordinance on their
17:15
Speaker 9: properties if they're there and when they're if they're not there.
17:18
Speaker 2: Okay, I guess the question would be is why And
17:20
Speaker 2: I'm not trying to be as smart Alley, but I
17:22
Speaker 2: want you to explain it to me. Why is this
17:23
Speaker 2: not already being done? I mean, if they're if they're
17:25
Speaker 2: breaking the if they're breaking the law of trespassing, it
17:27
Speaker 2: actually is it's uh.
17:29
Speaker 9: You know, this year, yesterday I pulled, I was given
17:32
Speaker 9: the hybrid units for Kanas City only, and in twenty
17:37
Speaker 9: twenty six, our trespassing numbers just at the end of
17:41
Speaker 9: July have already exceeded all of twenty twenty five in
17:45
Speaker 9: Kanas City.
17:46
Speaker 2: That's great.
17:47
Speaker 9: I mean it's it's working trespassing and our officers do
17:50
Speaker 9: a wonderful job of enforcing our ordinances.
17:55
Speaker 2: My goal is to give them more tools to uh
17:59
Speaker 2: to take care of.
18:00
Speaker 9: These individuals that are walking the streets, UH, loitering, solicited
18:05
Speaker 9: soliciting UH donations, staying and living under trees and Kanas City.
18:11
Speaker 9: And it's not about just Kanos City. This is we
18:14
Speaker 9: have downtown, we have west side. UH that's the three
18:17
Speaker 9: areas we see it. I mean, we see individuals that
18:19
Speaker 9: shouldn't be there. At our last committee meeting that our
18:24
Speaker 9: chief of police said this would help us at nights
18:27
Speaker 9: and that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to
18:29
Speaker 9: give our officers more tools to enforce our ordinances to
18:33
Speaker 9: make us safer Charleston.
18:35
Speaker 2: So what are they doing? What give us everybody knows
18:38
Speaker 2: what the definition of trespassing is, but give us a
18:40
Speaker 2: couple of examples of where you've had problems.
18:42
Speaker 9: For example, the the private lot at Loews RBS. We
18:48
Speaker 9: have individuals sleeping, staying, camping, sitting in grass areas in
18:57
Speaker 9: the parking lots all hours of the night, walking in
19:01
Speaker 9: neighborhoods ending up in locations where they are trustpassing on
19:05
Speaker 9: private property.
19:06
Speaker 2: And then again, we want to make sure people realize
19:08
Speaker 2: this is a private property issue. This is not about
19:10
Speaker 2: someone being out on the street or whatever. This is.
19:13
Speaker 2: This is what you're focusing on with this proposed ordinance,
19:16
Speaker 2: Chad is on private property. Private property.
19:19
Speaker 9: And you know, the discussion we've had in council for
19:22
Speaker 9: this was introduced in June. First, we've had two committee
19:26
Speaker 9: meanings so far. Hopefully Councilman Sean Taylor, it's currently in
19:32
Speaker 9: Public Safety Committee, his committee. We'll take it up again
19:35
Speaker 9: on Monday night and I'll follow suit with orbits and
19:38
Speaker 9: rules and pass it out Monday night with some changes to.
19:42
Speaker 2: Only include businesses.
19:44
Speaker 9: We're not talking about private property of the landlord's property
19:48
Speaker 9: and they don't have to participate, So we're looking at
19:51
Speaker 9: businesses only right now, that language could change, but yeah,
19:56
Speaker 9: private property where business owners want to participate in this program.
20:00
Speaker 2: What do you hear from the businesses when you when
20:02
Speaker 2: you talk to them, because obviously they have come to
20:05
Speaker 2: you and other council members. What do you hear from
20:06
Speaker 2: the business and they want these people removed?
20:09
Speaker 9: They want them they want to offer their services and
20:12
Speaker 9: business opportunities at their locations without individuals sleeping in the doorways,
20:20
Speaker 9: sleeping in in in the trash dumpster areas, things of
20:25
Speaker 9: that sort. And this is just another tool that we
20:28
Speaker 9: can promote and push that allows our officers to do
20:32
Speaker 9: their job at the fullest extent.
20:34
Speaker 6: I mean.
20:35
Speaker 2: And as a business owner, this can be you know,
20:37
Speaker 2: obviously very problematic because there is a safety issue. Uh
20:41
Speaker 2: there is, you know, if I mean, we've certainly heard
20:44
Speaker 2: cases like this before. If somebody's press passing even though
20:46
Speaker 2: you have no trespassing signs or whatever, they fall, they
20:49
Speaker 2: get hurt, you get a lawsuit on your hands.
20:52
Speaker 9: Well, I mean another example you ask for example, So,
20:54
Speaker 9: I mean, we have a brand new Sheets in Kanas
20:56
Speaker 9: City that's attracting multiple cars off the inners, a business
21:01
Speaker 9: from a you know coming to Sheets to use their
21:03
Speaker 9: card or you get their cheap gas. We have individuals
21:06
Speaker 9: sleeping around the building that they can't get rid of,
21:10
Speaker 9: and our officers do a good job of moving those
21:12
Speaker 9: individuals along, but they need more tools to take care
21:16
Speaker 9: of these individuals.
21:16
Speaker 2: So you would have I mean, because sometimes I know
21:19
Speaker 2: understand the way things work on the corporate level. Sometimes
21:21
Speaker 2: it's a little bit more difficult than it is dealing with,
21:24
Speaker 2: you know, a locally owned business. So I don't want
21:27
Speaker 2: to put them on the spot here. But but Sheets
21:29
Speaker 2: is on board. You mentioned some other businesses on the
21:31
Speaker 2: corporate level that are on board. Yeah.
21:33
Speaker 9: Just last week I met the loss prevention manager from
21:38
Speaker 9: Pennsylvania at Sheets in Kanall City and she said, that's
21:41
Speaker 9: a it's a great idea that she's going to run.
21:44
Speaker 9: Like you said, corporate got to run it up the
21:45
Speaker 9: running up to the ladder and get it to approve.
21:48
Speaker 9: But they'll they'll participate. I've already given it to her.
21:52
Speaker 9: Contact to our Charleston Police department officers that I'm familiar with,
21:57
Speaker 9: and their their in coordination to work to get to
22:00
Speaker 9: help their location.
22:03
Speaker 2: And getting back to some of the issues that it causes.
22:06
Speaker 2: And again we're talking with Charleston City Council and Chad Robinson.
22:09
Speaker 2: I mean there's a safety issue too. I mean there's
22:11
Speaker 2: people that pull up and they may not necessarily want
22:13
Speaker 2: to visit those businesses if you have these if you
22:17
Speaker 2: have and again we're not I know when you talk
22:20
Speaker 2: about things like this, Chad, and I'm sure you've heard it,
22:23
Speaker 2: it it can sound like, well, you're just picking on
22:26
Speaker 2: people or whatever, but we're not. Trespassing is against the law.
22:30
Speaker 2: What we're talking about here is breaking the law. This
22:33
Speaker 2: is not about somebody walking up the street you know
22:36
Speaker 2: that may be homeless. This is not what this is about.
22:38
Speaker 2: This is being on private property.
22:42
Speaker 9: This, you know, I'm all for our Charleston Cares team
22:44
Speaker 9: does a wonderful job of helping those individuals who need
22:48
Speaker 9: help and get want help or want help, that's the key,
22:51
Speaker 9: or want that. Most of them they don't want help,
22:53
Speaker 9: but our care Tea does a wonderful job. They offer
22:56
Speaker 9: support for those individuals who want to be off the streets.
22:59
Speaker 9: We're talking about the vagrants. We're talking about the ones
23:02
Speaker 9: that that'll want to steal, that want to take from
23:06
Speaker 9: our businesses, want to stay at nights where they're not
23:10
Speaker 9: supposed to be. That's what we need to do to
23:12
Speaker 9: help clean up Charleston. You said this is based on
23:16
Speaker 9: a program out of Ocean City, Maryland.
23:18
Speaker 4: Is that right?
23:19
Speaker 2: That's where the officer got it from Ocean City, Maryland? Okay,
23:21
Speaker 2: So I mean I'm assuming that they have had contact
23:23
Speaker 2: with the city to see what they did right, what
23:25
Speaker 2: they did wrong, and things of that nature.
23:27
Speaker 9: Yeah, this will allow, you know, a sign to be
23:30
Speaker 9: created to post on your property saying that as they
23:32
Speaker 9: do in Ocean City. This would would show that your
23:36
Speaker 9: business is involved in this program and once the police support.
23:40
Speaker 9: I've already had a business owner. Canos City tell me
23:43
Speaker 9: yesterday that they're one hundred percent on board. They'll post
23:46
Speaker 9: the signs tomorrow if they can.
23:48
Speaker 2: Talk again with Charleton City Council. Chad Robinson a Dave

24:05
Speaker 2: you understand your environment because what you don't know can
24:08
Speaker 2: hurt you. Let's talk about the movement within city council
24:13
Speaker 2: and Charleston. You said, you know, because Charleston has such
24:15
Speaker 2: a large city council, you've got different committees and things
24:17
Speaker 2: of that nature. I know you mentioned Sean Taylor by
24:20
Speaker 2: by name. Do you anticipate that you're going to have
24:23
Speaker 2: support from other council members? You anticipate they'll be pushed
24:26
Speaker 2: back from some what do you think there have been?
24:27
Speaker 9: There has been pushback, and it's it's quite amazing to
24:33
Speaker 9: me that we have individuals on council who do not
24:37
Speaker 9: support providing our Charleston.
24:39
Speaker 2: Police officers with more tools to do their job. And
24:44
Speaker 2: I don't want to get into.
24:47
Speaker 9: Hills versus flats versus you know, my award versus somebody
24:52
Speaker 9: up on Yeah, but this is really an issue for
24:57
Speaker 9: those of us who represent the flats of Charles and
25:01
Speaker 9: those those those who represent the hills oak uh, you know,
25:05
Speaker 9: up off Greenbrough Street, things of that sort. They they
25:08
Speaker 9: don't see these individuals camping in private business lots or
25:12
Speaker 9: standing in front of businesses all day all night to
25:17
Speaker 9: try to do harm.
25:17
Speaker 2: They don't see it.
25:19
Speaker 9: We see it every single day going to and from
25:22
Speaker 9: our our homes in Kanas City, going to the grocery store,
25:27
Speaker 9: going to Loew's, going to cracker Barrel. They're in the
25:30
Speaker 9: they're in the bushes, sleeping and staying and uh waiting
25:34
Speaker 9: till people leave to do things that they don't see
25:37
Speaker 9: these things in the hills. And that's what I you know, yes,
25:41
Speaker 9: it upsets people that, uh I do things like this,
25:44
Speaker 9: introduce ordinances like this, or you know, I've introduced a
25:47
Speaker 9: pain healing ordinance twice. Some people don't like those things.
25:52
Speaker 9: But that's what my constituents see and want changed in Charleston.
25:58
Speaker 2: And that I I'd forgotten about that. You've introduced that
26:01
Speaker 2: twice at Panhandlin ordinance. What't happened the last time this year?
26:05
Speaker 9: Currently, I believe it's still sitting in Judge Tom Cleees
26:10
Speaker 9: Court the decision. I think there's a lawsuit for the
26:14
Speaker 9: Montingalia Morgantown ordinance. The last one I introduce is identicals
26:18
Speaker 9: that that ordinance so he's kind of waiting to see
26:21
Speaker 9: what happens with that, waiting to see.
26:23
Speaker 2: What happens there. And again I think that I understand
26:27
Speaker 2: where people can say, well, you are just you know
26:31
Speaker 2: that this is hateful toward homeless people or whatever. But again,
26:36
Speaker 2: this is private property we're talking about. This is no
26:38
Speaker 2: different than somebody. I mean, would would it be different
26:41
Speaker 2: You're talking about sheets or lows or cracker barrel or
26:43
Speaker 2: someplace like that. This is no different than if it
26:46
Speaker 2: was on making up an address here one twenty three
26:49
Speaker 2: Main Street and here in somebody's garage. That's it's the
26:51
Speaker 2: exact same thing, exact exact same thing.
26:55
Speaker 9: We're giving them more tools to do their job for
26:57
Speaker 9: as police officers for Kanas City, west side, downtown, anywhere
27:01
Speaker 9: in Charleston.
27:02
Speaker 2: Knock out a couple of texts here. One says, this
27:04
Speaker 2: is what happens after years and years of accommodating and
27:06
Speaker 2: catering to vagrants, the entitlement syndrome of no consequences. It's
27:10
Speaker 2: not the officer's fault either. This is legislative and judicial.
27:14
Speaker 2: That's part of it.
27:15
Speaker 9: I mean, it does our officers do everything they can
27:18
Speaker 9: in their power that for these vagrants that walk in
27:23
Speaker 9: Kanaus City or throughout Charleston. And again I want to
27:27
Speaker 9: stress I've never ever voted against funding or issues for
27:31
Speaker 9: our Cares team, for our home list to provide them support.
27:36
Speaker 9: These are individuals that don't want support. They're walking around stealing, breaking, entering, trespassing,
27:45
Speaker 9: and we have to give our officers more support to
27:48
Speaker 9: provide what they can for our residence of Charleston.
27:52
Speaker 2: So now tell us where it goes from here. He
27:55
Speaker 2: said it's gona be brought up again. I guess the
27:57
Speaker 2: committee process, whatever's.
27:58
Speaker 9: That could currently public Safety committee. I'm not sure when
28:03
Speaker 9: they will meet next, hopefully Monday night. I've already asked
28:06
Speaker 9: for a meeting following their meeting. If they take up
28:09
Speaker 9: this ordinance and proposed ordinance, and I hope to get
28:15
Speaker 9: a past Monday night, we'll see. There's some changes going
28:18
Speaker 9: to be made. There is some opposition to the to
28:22
Speaker 9: this proposal, but I don't.
28:23
Speaker 2: Understand, and maybe again I'm gonna editorialize herey on, I
28:26
Speaker 2: don't understand, and I will afford an opportunity on this
28:30
Speaker 2: show for anybody who wants to come on and change
28:32
Speaker 2: my mind. Otherwise I don't understand how you could not
28:37
Speaker 2: be in support of something that is protecting private property.
28:40
Speaker 2: This is not walking down VIRGINU Street in front of
28:43
Speaker 2: our station here. This is private property. We're talking. That's correct.
28:46
Speaker 9: And the business owner or the property owner does not
28:51
Speaker 9: have to participate. If they do, they do not want to.
28:54
Speaker 9: This is just an option for a business owner to
28:57
Speaker 9: post their property so the officers know that they're they're
29:01
Speaker 9: participating in this team program.
29:04
Speaker 2: What else is going on in Kanas City these days? Hey,
29:06
Speaker 2: we haven't mentioned traffic one time, have we Hey, don't
29:08
Speaker 2: don't mess it. Come back.
29:10
Speaker 9: Uh, we're doing well in kanos See Trust and Urban
29:12
Speaker 9: Works Kansas City were we're meeting monthly. Uh, we're gonna
29:17
Speaker 9: hopefully come up with an event here in a spring,
29:19
Speaker 9: a big event for Kanas City. And it's it's it's
29:22
Speaker 9: doing well. We got new businesses coming and hopefully we
29:26
Speaker 9: see some more come our way. All right, well, we'll
29:28
Speaker 9: have you on when we get those new businesses.
29:30
Speaker 2: And again I do want to say that, Uh, I
29:33
Speaker 2: you know, I don't live in the City of Charleston,
29:34
Speaker 2: don't live in Kansas City, but if I did, I'd
29:36
Speaker 2: be one hundred percent in support of this, especially if
29:38
Speaker 2: I owned a business that means a lot day.
29:40
Speaker 9: This is you know state, you know with Dave Allen Show.
29:44
Speaker 9: It's great to have your support. I appreciate you.
29:46
Speaker 2: I'm nobody, I live in Putnam County, but I'm just
29:48
Speaker 2: saying though I would be as a business owner, I
29:50
Speaker 2: would one hundred percent being supported. That's why would you
29:53
Speaker 2: Why would you not be? I mean, I just don't think.
29:55
Speaker 2: I don't I don't understand the opposition. But if somebody
29:58
Speaker 2: wants to come on argue the other side, I'm equal
30:00
Speaker 2: opportunity here. That's right to do it. Always do Chad Robinson,
30:03
Speaker 2: a city councilan out of Ward twenty, appreciate you being here.

Speaker 2: Tex says you can tell it's an election year. The
33:43
Speaker 2: city is actually thinking about doing something about criminals, says
33:46
Speaker 2: the Texter. TEX says, this is the equivalent of our
33:49
Speaker 2: federal border control laws. You cross illegally on the US soil,
33:53
Speaker 2: you go to jail. It's that simple, and in parentheses,
33:57
Speaker 2: they said at least some of US citizens still support
33:59
Speaker 2: the law. Tex death is apparently so bad in the
34:02
Speaker 2: South Hills area that the Ashton Place Kroger now has
34:04
Speaker 2: anti theft barriers on the exit with there a couple
34:07
Speaker 2: of days ago when if I accidentally went to the
34:09
Speaker 2: West Side Kroger for the nineteenth year our sister station
34:13
Speaker 2: one of seven three to beat doing the backpack attack
34:15
Speaker 2: sponsored by Selango law. Here to talk about it is
34:18
Speaker 2: Logan Scott. How you doing man, I'm doing well.
34:20
Speaker 4: How are you?
34:21
Speaker 2: I am doing fine. I like the new purple t shirt.
34:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, the Beat.
34:24
Speaker 14: We'n't got a new logo a little a couple of
34:26
Speaker 14: months ago. Yeah, I got everything's purple. I don't have
34:28
Speaker 14: a purple shirt yet. I got to get one of
34:30
Speaker 14: those gottak what all right? Nineteen years It seems like
34:34
Speaker 14: it's very hard to believe. Neither one of us were here.
34:36
Speaker 2: Now when it started, this was kind of Woody Wood's baby,
34:40
Speaker 2: along with Lesha Lee and some mothers, and now it's
34:42
Speaker 2: grown to a huge event.
34:44
Speaker 4: Yeah.
34:44
Speaker 14: So it all takes place this afternoon out here in
34:46
Speaker 14: our parking lot. We like to do things out here
34:47
Speaker 14: in our parking lot, and I mean it's convenient. So
34:50
Speaker 14: we're at eleven eleven Virginia Street East, the nineteenth Annual
34:53
Speaker 14: Beat Backpack Attack. Now there are three hundred book bags,
34:56
Speaker 14: stuff with kids school supplies. There are headphones, water bottles,
35:02
Speaker 14: also backpack tags, So three hundred book bags today. Lineup
35:06
Speaker 14: begins at three thirty here at our studios eleven eleven
35:09
Speaker 14: Virginia Street East, and giveaways begin at four thirty. And
35:12
Speaker 14: there's we've got some activities outside as well to as
35:16
Speaker 14: you're in line waiting.
35:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, And the way it works is if you never
35:20
Speaker 2: brought your kids down for this is we actually line
35:22
Speaker 2: them up on the street from the radio station. Line
35:24
Speaker 2: goes well beyond Charleston Catholic High School, always way down
35:27
Speaker 2: the street there, and we normally let about four or
35:29
Speaker 2: five in at the time. We don't break up families
35:32
Speaker 2: or anything like that. But that's my job. I'm not
35:36
Speaker 2: breaking up families. I'm sorry. The traffic control part of it,
35:39
Speaker 2: that's what I actually puts me out there, and she says,
35:41
Speaker 2: all right to you know, I'm like the back of
35:43
Speaker 2: the line, back in line.
35:44
Speaker 4: Yeah.
35:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's very orderly the way it is. We'll say, okay,
35:49
Speaker 2: you four or five together, Okay you, mom, dad, grandparents,
35:51
Speaker 2: you and the kids come in and we take you
35:55
Speaker 2: right to left, I guess against the building all the
35:58
Speaker 2: way around, and we have stations set up so it's
36:01
Speaker 2: not just when the kids get to pick their own
36:03
Speaker 2: backpack because well, I mean we say wild supplies last,
36:06
Speaker 2: because we have different colors and different designs. Kids can
36:08
Speaker 2: pick out which backpack they want, but then they're going
36:11
Speaker 2: to go to the other vendors and there are all
36:13
Speaker 2: sorts of them here that have got things that they're
36:15
Speaker 2: giving away as well. There's information available for the parents
36:19
Speaker 2: and grandparents.
36:19
Speaker 14: Yeah, and we're actually going to be utilizing our church
36:21
Speaker 14: parking lot as well. There's going to be vendors there
36:23
Speaker 14: as well. And there may or may not be some
36:27
Speaker 14: sweet treats here later this afternoon, okay as well tell
36:31
Speaker 14: me more. Well there may be ice cream. Okay, so yeah,
36:34
Speaker 14: ice cream, something for the kids. And yeah, I know,
36:37
Speaker 14: not for you, not for you, but I mean school
36:39
Speaker 14: starts next week next Wednesday in Kanawak County, so you know,
36:44
Speaker 14: we always see this, you know, about a week before
36:45
Speaker 14: school starts, just to you know, it's it's just a
36:49
Speaker 14: great event. And we have so many sponsors too. We
36:51
Speaker 14: have Selango Law, WV Health Right, Charleston Police Department, Mountain
36:54
Speaker 14: Care Network, the Charleston Dirty Birds, i'mart Express, also the
36:59
Speaker 14: Stike team at Wealth Enhancement, U GREEB Dental Group, JB
37:03
Speaker 14: Acres ten and ten Above Roofing, and so many others.
37:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, so and every and just about I will say
37:09
Speaker 2: all but I mean a great number of those people
37:10
Speaker 2: that you just mentioned, we'll have a presence out there
37:14
Speaker 2: because we invite them all, you know, as best we
37:17
Speaker 2: can to come in and and so it's not just
37:19
Speaker 2: the backpacks. We want to make sure that people understand
37:21
Speaker 2: that they can get all kinds of other stuff with
37:23
Speaker 2: the other vendors as well. Yeah.
37:24
Speaker 14: Absolutely, And you can learn more if you've not heard
37:27
Speaker 14: about this, Uh, it's over on the one oh seven
37:30
Speaker 14: point three to beat facebook page.
37:31
Speaker 2: We have the flyer up there with all the infl
37:33
Speaker 2: and here's the like one of the important things we say.
37:35
Speaker 2: And we want to make sure people realize the kid
37:38
Speaker 2: has to be here, you know, And because I mean,
37:41
Speaker 2: I'm I don't want to put ideas in people's heads,
37:43
Speaker 2: but there's always a possibility that people take you know,
37:47
Speaker 2: I've got five kids at home and the next thing
37:49
Speaker 2: they end up on Facebook yard sale. So we're not
37:52
Speaker 2: doing that. Got to be present, the kids have got
37:53
Speaker 2: to be present to win. And I know it's a
37:55
Speaker 2: busy time for kids there, you know, into sports and
37:58
Speaker 2: so on and so forth, trying to get ready for
37:59
Speaker 2: back to Cool next week. But parents, grandparents or whomever,
38:02
Speaker 2: if you bring the kids at we got to see
38:04
Speaker 2: the kid. No kid, no backpack right right? And those backpacks.
38:07
Speaker 2: It's interesting And I had this conversation with Woody I
38:10
Speaker 2: think last year or the year before about the things
38:12
Speaker 2: that are in the backpacks have changed over the years. Absolutely.
38:15
Speaker 2: I'm quite a bit older than you are, but I'll
38:17
Speaker 2: tell you it's changed since when you were in school.
38:19
Speaker 14: Ten years ago, in high school, graduated high school. It's
38:21
Speaker 14: it's completely it's different, Yeah, for sure.
38:24
Speaker 2: I mean because I had somebody one time say, well,
38:26
Speaker 2: why are you giving them earbuds or headphones or whatever,
38:30
Speaker 2: because it's required now and they're using them. Yeah, it's required.
38:32
Speaker 2: And the water bottles. Those of us that have some
38:35
Speaker 2: age on us, remember standing in line for the water
38:37
Speaker 2: fountain and you too, one drinking after the other. And
38:40
Speaker 2: god knows what was probably in that water, you know,
38:43
Speaker 2: the coal sludge, I was dryver was drinking growing up,
38:46
Speaker 2: probably explains a lot.
38:48
Speaker 1: You said it.
38:49
Speaker 2: But they kids have to have a water bottle now.
38:53
Speaker 2: This is not just you know, it's twenty thirty years ago.
38:56
Speaker 2: It was paper, pencil, notebooks or whatever it all. And
38:58
Speaker 2: it changes every Year's gonna chang next year. Absolutely, yeah.
39:01
Speaker 2: We we work with Canaw County Schools and guther lim
39:06
Speaker 2: and and say okay, what do kids need this year?
39:08
Speaker 2: Because it's it changes over the years.
39:11
Speaker 14: It is the backpack attack again today three thirty lineup
39:15
Speaker 14: starts here at our studios. Four point thirty is when
39:18
Speaker 14: the giveaways begin.
39:19
Speaker 2: All right, Logan Scott. You can hear him on the beat, right,
39:22
Speaker 2: aren't you going to be?
39:23
Speaker 3: Yeah?
39:23
Speaker 2: I hear it about fourteen minutes. Okay. In other words,
39:25
Speaker 2: shut up, Dave. I'm going to go get on the air.
39:27
Speaker 2: But you can hear him on the beat Storty to

43:05
Speaker 2: I've had again. A couple of years ago somebody called
43:09
Speaker 2: textas show or whatever and said, well at this backpack
43:12
Speaker 2: attack why are you giving out headphones because they're required.
43:15
Speaker 2: Kids have to have earbuds, headphones, something like that in school.
43:18
Speaker 2: Now now in many cases the schools provide them. They
43:22
Speaker 2: have to have a water bottle. The things change. I
43:25
Speaker 2: am old enough. I told somebody in the building this
43:27
Speaker 2: the other day. And this person's only about ten years
43:30
Speaker 2: younger than I am. That I can remember buying books
43:34
Speaker 2: before we buy school. Now, we didn't buy all of
43:36
Speaker 2: our books, but there were certain workbooks that were required
43:40
Speaker 2: and there was one store in town that sold them,
43:43
Speaker 2: and you had to go buy the workbooks. And I
43:48
Speaker 2: don't remember anybody complaining. Now you couldn't do that now
43:51
Speaker 2: because you couldn't require them, because somebody would say, well,
43:54
Speaker 2: you're disenfranchising this person. Whatever. You know, I'm just saying
43:57
Speaker 2: that you used to be different back the day you
44:00
Speaker 2: were required to buy stuff. But we're trying to help out.
44:04
Speaker 2: That's the whole thing. With the nineteenth Annual one oh
44:07
Speaker 2: seven three, the beat Backpack Attack again. Line up at
44:10
Speaker 2: three point thirty this afternoon on our parking lot. Get
44:13
Speaker 2: here early, and we're keeping a close eye on the weather.
44:15
Speaker 2: We understand that we have a contingency plan if Brian
44:19
Speaker 2: Hughes fails us and we have a heavy downpour. So
44:21
Speaker 2: we got we got a plan all right, But he
44:24
Speaker 2: says we should be okay out there. So when you
44:26
Speaker 2: come to the lot, I'll say this, we're not. You're
44:28
Speaker 2: not going to see the tents up out on the
44:30
Speaker 2: parking lot because we don't want to go chasing tents
44:32
Speaker 2: down the street. But we'll have the parking lot all
44:35
Speaker 2: blocked off like we normally do, and the station vehicles
44:37
Speaker 2: will be out there, and your favorite WVRC media Charleston
44:40
Speaker 2: personalities will all be out there as well, helping. It's
44:44
Speaker 2: very orderly. But the thing is number one thing is
44:48
Speaker 2: we have to see the kid. You cannot just show
44:51
Speaker 2: up mom, dad, grandparents and say well I got four
44:54
Speaker 2: kids at home. We got to see the kid, and
44:56
Speaker 2: we have to be able to personally place the backpack
44:59
Speaker 2: in said Youngin's hand. Text Dave Monday, you were talking
45:05
Speaker 2: about how nasty people have become, an asking how did
45:07
Speaker 2: we get here? Answer? You see it and hear it
45:09
Speaker 2: every day now from politicians, whether on television interviews or
45:12
Speaker 2: walking through the halls of Congress or speaking on the
45:14
Speaker 2: House or Senate floor. When people see that behavior. They
45:17
Speaker 2: take it as quote, it's okay for me to insult,
45:19
Speaker 2: and now'll be a bully. That's how kids do it.
45:22
Speaker 2: That's how kids become bullies. In classrooms. They see adults
45:25
Speaker 2: doing the exact same thing, so they think it is okay.

45:39
Speaker 2: Check this out, folks. Patrick Duffy, Yes, that Patrick Duffy,
45:44
Speaker 2: Bobby from Dallas Demand from Atlantis step by Step ABC television.
45:50
Speaker 2: Back in the nineties, he along with actress Linda Pearl
45:53
Speaker 2: and you may remember her from Happy Days, playing the
45:57
Speaker 2: part of Phonsie's girlfriend Ashley Fist in the later days
46:01
Speaker 2: of the show, when they decided fons He needed to
46:03
Speaker 2: settle down. Uh and he got a one girlfriend. I
46:06
Speaker 2: know there was there was a pinky Tuscadero. I know
46:09
Speaker 2: all about that. God, I know way too much. I
46:12
Speaker 2: don't go I got way too much stuff in my head.
46:14
Speaker 2: But anyway, Uh. Linda Pearl Uh is an actress appeared
46:17
Speaker 2: on several several other things. While she was on she
46:19
Speaker 2: had a couple of spots on the Office, I think
46:21
Speaker 2: one of my favorite shows. So, uh, Patrick Duffy has
46:26
Speaker 2: got a new venture called Duffy's Dough. It is a
46:30
Speaker 2: sour dough bread it's a breadline and it's being sold
46:33
Speaker 2: at Kroger with one of the profits being donated to
46:37
Speaker 2: hunger relief programs. So there's definitely a West Virginia time.
46:41
Speaker 2: Linda Pearl actually herself has West Virginia ties, and so
46:44
Speaker 2: their folks reached out to us and said, Hey, we'd
46:46
Speaker 2: like to go on the state wide show, uh, to
46:48
Speaker 2: talk about what we're doing here. I think it's a
46:50
Speaker 2: wonderful program. It's called Duffy's Dough and it is a
46:53
Speaker 2: line of sourdough breads, uh, founded by Patrick Duffy, he
46:57
Speaker 2: of Dallas, Man from Atlanta, step by step, so on
47:00
Speaker 2: and so forth. So they're going to join us on
47:02
Speaker 2: the show today. Looking forward to that. Also on the
47:06
Speaker 2: show today, honey to Mayor Patrick Ferrell is going to
47:08
Speaker 2: stop by to talk about flock cameras. They had another
47:10
Speaker 2: city council meeting which was discussed a couple of nights ago,
47:13
Speaker 2: so we'll talk to him about that. Brad Howe Metro
47:15
Speaker 2: News Sports will stop by. You know it's getting closed
47:20
Speaker 2: Man for Mountaineer Football, I mean it really really is,
47:22

47:24

47:45
Speaker 2: Prosperities here and we're going to talk to Ron. Marnie
47:49
Speaker 2: russ Meyer, breast cancer advocate, coming up on the show
47:52
Speaker 2: tomorrow as well. Tech says day the murder of an
47:56
Speaker 2: ennocent dog in Mingo County so heinous and evil it
47:58
Speaker 2: has drawn national attention to the spread of animal abuse cases.
48:02
Speaker 2: Prominent animal advocate, digital content creator and a former TV
48:06
Speaker 2: news anchor with thirty year background in broadcast journalism, Paul
48:10
Speaker 2: Muller or Mueller, has taken up this case of media platforms.
48:14
Speaker 2: He exposes animal cruelty, highlights shelter whistleblowers and tracks animal
48:19
Speaker 2: justice cases. Follow him, please, sends a Texter quickly, And
48:24
Speaker 2: I'm gonna bring TJ. Meadows in here because I haven't
48:26
Speaker 2: got to talk to TJ in a while and I
48:27
Speaker 2: miss him. I just miss him, but he's not around. Yesterday,
48:31
Speaker 2: of course, we all battled the weather and everything yesterday.
48:34
Speaker 2: I left the office here at eleven eleven about four
48:37
Speaker 2: thirty or so yesterday afternoon, an hour and twenty minutes
48:42
Speaker 2: to get to Tay's Valley yesterday, and there wasn't weather
48:45
Speaker 2: related because at that point the weather was fine. It
48:49
Speaker 2: was navigating I sixty four Big Blue Bridge yesterday. There
48:55
Speaker 2: all the lanes come together, okay, you know when you're
48:58
Speaker 2: coming from the seventy seven seven nine split. You know,
49:01
Speaker 2: people getting off work at the at the Capitol or
49:03
Speaker 2: downtown Charleston or whatever, everybody coming together, and there was
49:06
Speaker 2: one lane open yesterday. Now, do not I'm not gonna
49:10
Speaker 2: be one that criticizes our highway's workers, okay, because I
49:12
Speaker 2: know the hard working men and women do a great
49:14
Speaker 2: job out there overall. But it just seemed to me,
49:17
Speaker 2: and maybe they can explain it to me, to be
49:19
Speaker 2: a little bit odd that at that time of day,
49:21
Speaker 2: four thirty in the afternoon, busiest time of the day,
49:24
Speaker 2: that there was one lane of the big blue bridge open,
49:26
Speaker 2: and there was nobody there working out. They could have
49:28
Speaker 2: been waiting on something to settle. I don't know. But
49:31
Speaker 2: the weirdest thing that I saw yesterday meadows I'm gonna
49:36
Speaker 2: bring you in on this, okay, So if you can
49:39
Speaker 2: visualize this, okay, I when I leave here, I drive
49:43
Speaker 2: and normally drive like by the ballpark, More Street, get back,
49:46
Speaker 2: you know, up on the interstate, okay, someway.
49:48
Speaker 9: All right.
49:49
Speaker 2: So I am on the Interstate in the far right lane,
49:52
Speaker 2: completely stop as it goes under you know, one of
49:56
Speaker 2: the bridges, and you're right across from women and children. So, okay,
49:58
Speaker 2: that's where I am. Yesterday. I got where I am
50:00
Speaker 2: kind of get you know, you go under a bridge
50:02
Speaker 2: and you come back out the other side.
50:03
Speaker 4: Got it.
50:03
Speaker 2: I'm sitting there and not moving, and in the far
50:08
Speaker 2: right I'm in the far right lane. Okay, I'm talking
50:11
Speaker 2: about on the shoulder. A semi truck, all right, is
50:17
Speaker 2: driving on the shoulder trying to get by all the
50:20
Speaker 2: other cars, including one of the semis. Okay, Now, I
50:25
Speaker 2: look in my rear view mirror. And I'm gonna be honest.
50:28
Speaker 2: I was talking on my phone, hands free, hands free device,
50:31
Speaker 2: all right, and talking to and I said, oh my,
50:34
Speaker 2: what am I seeing here? I think a couple of
50:36
Speaker 2: other experts may have come out of there. This person
50:40
Speaker 2: was driving on the shoulder yesterday. At one point they
50:44
Speaker 2: barely cleared another semi truck that was there. I mean
50:47
Speaker 2: to the point that the guy who was sitting there
50:49
Speaker 2: where he should be was blowing the horn. Lord knows
50:52
Speaker 2: what was going on between those And I don't think
50:53
Speaker 2: what what is wrong with people? It's called breaking the law.
50:57
Speaker 2: There's a law against that. That's an emergency vehicle lane
51:00
Speaker 2: that should be kept clear. And if you are not
51:01
Speaker 2: an emergency vehicle, you can't be in it. And he
51:04
Speaker 2: didn't have the hazard lights or anything. I mean, cause
51:05
Speaker 2: you I want to say, well, maybe he or she
51:07
Speaker 2: had a medical emergency whatever. Now to tow they didn't
51:10
Speaker 2: have their lights on. I'm like, my god, I go Dave.
51:14
Speaker 2: The Backpack is a great program, shows the compassionate love
51:17
