- 0:12Speaker 2: every day, Showbiz for one one dot com, Showbiz for
- 0:16Speaker 2: one one dot com. Roger Friedman, How you doing, I'm great?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Good morning. Hey have you seen the movie Odyssey?
- 0:26Speaker 3: Has in everyone seen the movie Odyssey? It's up to
- 0:28Speaker 3: three hundred million dollars after twelve days.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Oh. I thought it was the biggest hit.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I thought it was six hundred it was huge. I
- 0:34Speaker 2: thought it.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, that's worldwide. Oh, that's worldwide, three hundred million, United States.
- 0:39Speaker 3: It's going to be a billion dollar movie at least.
- 0:42Speaker 3: And you've seen it's gonna win. It's gonna of course,
- 0:44Speaker 3: I've seen it. I wrote for one of the first
- 0:46Speaker 3: reviews of it, Well it's a fabulous movie.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Tell us, Well, what's so fabulous?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Well, because it really takes Homer, who's three thousand years old,
- 0:58Speaker 3: and makes him accessible. And even though some of the
- 1:05Speaker 3: translators have complained about it, it's it's done something amazing.
- 1:10Speaker 3: It's made people talk about Homer and talk about the Odyssey.
- 1:14Speaker 3: You know the when you watch the Odyssey, you realize
- 1:17Speaker 3: that every action, you know, it's a fictional story. It's
- 1:20Speaker 3: not history. It's no, there's no history there. You know,
- 1:25Speaker 3: there's some references to things, but it's not. This was
- 1:28Speaker 3: the story he made up three thousand years ago. He's
- 1:30Speaker 3: like the original storyteller. And every movie, if you really
- 1:35Speaker 3: think about it, every adventure that we know, even Shakespeare's
- 1:39Speaker 3: adventures come from the Odyssey.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Really, yes, they do.
- 1:44Speaker 3: And it's so obvious when you're watching it that you think, oh, I,
- 1:48Speaker 3: you know, this is really insane.
- 1:50Speaker 1: But he was the original.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Guy, and and Christopher Nolan has done a wonderful job
- 1:58Speaker 3: of making it so that you'll you'll want to watch it.
- 2:01Speaker 3: And it's really a story of a man who's trying
- 2:03Speaker 3: to get home to his family. It's a very simple story.
- 2:07Speaker 3: But you know, back then people are laughing. Now they're saying, oh,
- 2:10Speaker 3: you know, if he'd home, if Odysseus, the main character,
- 2:15Speaker 3: had you know, been smart, the trip home would have
- 2:18Speaker 3: taken an hour. But only you know now in twenty
- 2:21Speaker 3: twenty six, but you know it took twenty years back then.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But it's a beautiful job. Matt Damon is terrific and Hathaway.
- 2:30Speaker 3: They're all going to get Oscar nomination.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Everyone.
- 2:32Speaker 3: They're going to get like fifteen Oscar nominations for this movie,
- 2:35Speaker 3: and they'll probably win most of them.
- 2:38Speaker 1: There's no other movie.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Like this in twenty twenty six, even the ones that are,
- 2:42Speaker 3: even the ones that are coming, aren't this good. So
- 2:45Speaker 3: it's a real event. It's sold out forever. On Imax.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You can't get in there. You cannot get in there
- 2:52Speaker 3: for anything. But you can go see it on seventy
- 2:55Speaker 3: milimeter and you could see it in Dolby theaters and
- 2:58Speaker 3: it's just fine to see it that way. You'll want
- 3:00Speaker 3: to see it, Yeah, it's fine to see it that way,
- 3:02Speaker 3: and you'll want to see a choice anyway. So you
- 3:04Speaker 3: can always go back and see it in IOX, but
- 3:06Speaker 3: you have to see that, you have to see a
- 3:07Speaker 3: choice because there's so much going on that it's hard.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's hard to take everything in.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I was very happy the second time I saw it
- 3:15Speaker 3: because I was like, oh, yeah, that and that that.
- 3:18Speaker 3: So there's a lot going on on the screen, but
- 3:21Speaker 3: it's quite the accomplishment and uh and a big hit.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Of course, on Friday, it's going to have a little
- 3:27Speaker 3: competition from Spider Man.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Well, see, to me, that sounds Spider Man, that sounds
- 3:34Speaker 2: more exciting Spider Man. Well I want to see that.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But Homer about a guy trying to go it doesn't
- 3:39Speaker 2: sound that exciting a guy trying to go home.
- 3:41Speaker 3: No, no, it's it's very exciting. God, you have to
- 3:44Speaker 3: see that. You haven't seen it yet. The Trojan Horse
- 3:47Speaker 3: is spent. The whole thing with the Trojan Horse is amazing.
- 3:50Speaker 1: The whole second is.
- 3:51Speaker 2: That's where that's where the Trojan horse story comes from.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yes, oh, yes, that's where Trojans come from.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Oh that's.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Condoms, football players anything named trojan so yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 3: and uh, the Chargan horse part is fabulous. Helen of
- 4:14Speaker 3: Troy is great. So all these things you know from history,
- 4:19Speaker 3: from from fictional history are represented. You know, it's it's
- 4:27Speaker 3: it's really terrific.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Let's not it's not Good Fellaws. Let's be honest.
- 4:32Speaker 3: It's not Good Fellaws because they don't play Leila in it.
- 4:37Speaker 3: And there's no cocaine. Well there might be cocaine, but
- 4:39Speaker 3: we don't know if there is. And then Spider Man
- 4:43Speaker 3: is uh, you know, just fun, total fun, and it's
- 4:46Speaker 3: apparently going to set a record for its opening. There's
- 4:51Speaker 3: there's a lot of about it, and I've seen it.
- 4:55Speaker 3: It's probably the best Spider Man. There not be nine
- 4:59Speaker 3: regular Spider Man movies in the last twenty two years,
- 5:02Speaker 3: twenty four years, and this is the best one.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Very nicely done.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And I've really become a fan of John Burnhall, who's
- 5:11Speaker 3: in The Odyssey and in Spider Man and from the Bear.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You're known from the Bear.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And he was just on Broadway and Dog Day Afternoon,
- 5:20Speaker 3: a terrific actor. Tom Holland and Zendeia have chemistry off
- 5:24Speaker 3: the charts, and of course they just got married in
- 5:27Speaker 3: real life. So everyone wants to see this movie, and
- 5:32Speaker 3: it's a lot of fun, and of course you'll enjoy
- 5:34Speaker 3: it because at one point they do, for just a nanosecond,
- 5:37Speaker 3: played the Spider Man theme song from the cartoon from
- 5:40Speaker 3: the original Spider Man. So that always makes me happy
- 5:44Speaker 3: when I hear that.
- 5:45Speaker 2: No, it sounds good. Well, I've explained both of these perfectly.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I actually now want to see The Odyssey.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But oh no, you really have to see the Odyssey.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You're gonna love it.
- 5:56Speaker 3: You're really gonna love It's it's you know, and have
- 6:00Speaker 3: a nice meal before the movie, go to the restroom.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Oh, it's not one of these four hour movies, is it.
- 6:07Speaker 3: It's a three hour movie, but it doesn't feel like
- 6:09Speaker 3: three hours. It doesn't feel like three hours. It goes
- 6:12Speaker 3: very fast. And the last hour is so excited. Can
- 6:14Speaker 3: I say something? The last hour of the Odyssey is
- 6:17Speaker 3: so exciting that you have you you're thinking, as it's
- 6:20Speaker 3: coming to an end, you're thinking, no, no, no, I
- 6:22Speaker 3: don't want this to end.
- 6:24Speaker 1: That's how good it is.
- 6:25Speaker 2: All right, Well, yeah, I know you've inspired a lot
- 6:29Speaker 2: of people. Now the lines will be even longer. If
- 6:31Speaker 2: you want to see it the Imax, I don't think
- 6:33Speaker 2: you can get untill September. That's like the first seats available.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Now what you can see it in a seventy millimeter, it's fine.
- 6:39Speaker 3: You can see it in the Dolby theaters. I would
- 6:41Speaker 3: go back and see it like in New York at
- 6:43Speaker 3: the AMC Lincoln Square. Yeah, you just go see it
- 6:46Speaker 3: in the Dolbey Theater. It's great. I love that theater.
- 6:50Speaker 3: That's where we saw Spider Man the other night. By
- 6:53Speaker 3: the way, it's also a big Beatles week. Yeah, Beatles
- 6:56Speaker 3: announcements today.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Tell us what there's new stuff coming out, right.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a Rubber Soul, which was the first album
- 7:05Speaker 3: of sort of the adult Beatles. If you think about
- 7:07Speaker 3: how fast the Beatles went, it was seven years and
- 7:10Speaker 3: the first three years where you know all those Ticket
- 7:13Speaker 3: to Ride and I Want to Hold Your Hands and
- 7:15Speaker 3: all the pop hits, and then they turned around and
- 7:17Speaker 3: put out Rubber Soul, which was followed by A Revolver
- 7:21Speaker 3: Sergeant Pepper, the White album Abbey Road, Let It Be.
- 7:24Speaker 3: This all happened in a four year period and it's
- 7:27Speaker 3: hard to imagine now. And Rubber Soul is getting an
- 7:31Speaker 3: anniversary box set with lots of demos and outtakes that
- 7:35Speaker 3: we've never heard. I saw John Lennon's song that nobody
- 7:38Speaker 3: knew existed. It's a big box set that's coming out
- 7:42Speaker 3: October second.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I already want it.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It's got a Blu ray disc that's separate in there
- 7:47Speaker 3: that has the Dolby utmost sound, which is just unbelievable.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So this is going to be a big deal.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Where do I play a Blu ray disc?
- 7:57Speaker 3: You know, if you have still I think most people
- 7:59Speaker 3: saw DVD players. Oh don't you have a TVD player?
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, I think you'm mean a disc.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Like via No, no, no, it's a disc. It's a
- 8:09Speaker 3: metal disc. You can but they also sell listen to
- 8:13Speaker 3: everyone has you know you and I are passed that
- 8:15Speaker 3: were over it. But young people, everyone loves Vinyl records LPs,
- 8:20Speaker 3: and so this is being offered in a special you know,
- 8:24Speaker 3: LP box too.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're just using them as the coasters. I mean,
- 8:27Speaker 2: they're not actually listening to the fight.
- 8:29Speaker 1: No no, no, no people.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Really, I'm very surprised because I was thrilled when CDs
- 8:34Speaker 3: came in in nineteen eighty three or whatever it was.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I was very happy to move over from LPs. LPs
- 8:41Speaker 3: were warped and they scratched, they jumped, so I was
- 8:46Speaker 3: very happy to move over to CDs. And you know,
- 8:48Speaker 3: if you have a good CD player, you're in great shape.
- 8:52Speaker 3: But uh, and now of course everyone's streaming, but there's
- 8:58Speaker 3: a whole world of people who want.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Uh yeah, hell yeah, sorry about.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Get my technique's turntable out again.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I still have one of those in a closet somewhere.
- 9:12Speaker 2: That's well. Roger Friedman, great stuff, everybody. If you want
