- 0:00Speaker 1: On this smartin Luther King Holiday Monday, we are at
- 0:03Speaker 1: Live and Bear Smoke House Barbecue for another edition of
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Men's Hockey Coaches Show. Bob Joyce Adam Jardino when
- 0:08Speaker 1: the guy in the middle of his coach cav as
- 0:10Speaker 1: he is back from Orno with his Huskies and boy,
- 0:13Speaker 1: your team, I don't know one of the better teams
- 0:15Speaker 1: that has luck going up to Orno. Four point weekend.
- 0:18Speaker 1: That's phenomenal is a team just continues to play really
- 0:21Speaker 1: good hockey in both a lot of fun games up
- 0:23Speaker 1: in Orno. What a great atmosphere it is.
- 0:26Speaker 2: It's certainly a raucous and boisterous event when you're up
- 0:31Speaker 2: there playing, and at times is a little vitriol it
- 0:35Speaker 2: comes out from those fans. No, but it was a
- 0:38Speaker 2: great weekend for us. I was really proud of the
- 0:42Speaker 2: way the guys, especially played on Friday night and then
- 0:47Speaker 2: Saturday night. We knew they were gonna you know, when
- 0:49Speaker 2: they played when Denver beat them two to one. Maine
- 0:52Speaker 2: came out the next night and now it shot them
- 0:54Speaker 2: twenty two to five in the first period. So we
- 0:57Speaker 2: were ready for their intensity and what they were going
- 1:00Speaker 2: to bring, and I thought we had a pretty good
- 1:01Speaker 2: first period. We gave up the goal late to make
- 1:05Speaker 2: it one one there in the first period, but we
- 1:08Speaker 2: weathered the storm. Callum made some big saves and then uh,
- 1:12Speaker 2: you know, Tat's got the goal and it was unfortunate
- 1:15Speaker 2: because we just had a breakdown. But we have been
- 1:19Speaker 2: playing pretty well. But the key is, uh, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 2: not to We have to remain you know, I just
- 1:28Speaker 2: don't want to get too excited about the way we're playing.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Well.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You have to stay in the moment and you want
- 1:34Speaker 2: your team to uh you know, we can't get too
- 1:39Speaker 2: big for our bredches. We have to have a solicitude
- 1:42Speaker 2: and modesty here going forward.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Did you you never trailed Friday?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Correct? D did not know.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We kept coming back and that was a great thing
- 1:51Speaker 2: on on Friday night, which I was really proud of
- 1:56Speaker 2: the team. Is that every because when they score up
- 1:59Speaker 2: there the place, the roof comes off the place and
- 2:02Speaker 2: it's one nothing and it's one one and the place
- 2:04Speaker 2: is going crazy. And we came back to make it
- 2:06Speaker 2: to to one, and then when they tied it to
- 2:08Speaker 2: make it two to two. You know Joey's goal to
- 2:10Speaker 2: make it three to three. Well, all of Joey's goals.
- 2:13Speaker 2: He scored all of them on Friday night. That was
- 2:17Speaker 2: a really big goal. I wanted to make it three too,
- 2:19Speaker 2: because they were they were coming a little bit and
- 2:22Speaker 2: the crowd was getting into it, and uh that kind
- 2:26Speaker 2: of quieted things for us.
- 2:27Speaker 3: It's funny when we had you on a couple of
- 2:29Speaker 3: weeks ago and you were talking about building out the
- 2:32Speaker 3: non conference schedule and how you you kind of want
- 2:34Speaker 3: that that West Coast trip so that you're ready in
- 2:37Speaker 3: the future for NCAA tournament games. It feels like a
- 2:41Speaker 3: trip up to Orno and you realize, oh, yeah, we
- 2:43Speaker 3: do kind of get that that tough road environment in
- 2:46Speaker 3: our own conference, you know, every every other season.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, well it mad. It's tough to play in New
- 2:51Speaker 2: Hampshire too. Orno is probably the toughest just because of
- 2:54Speaker 2: the trip you take and there's just not a lot there.
- 2:58Speaker 3: It's uh yeah, it's I mean Saint Lawrence Clarkson same
- 3:02Speaker 3: kind of.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Very Yeah, it's a little similar, but this is just
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know, you're straight up there and the hotels in
- 3:10Speaker 2: the middle of nowhere, Like it's not like you can
- 3:12Speaker 2: leave the hotel and go walk and get a cup
- 3:14Speaker 2: of coffee somewhere it's there's nothing really around, so you
- 3:21Speaker 2: just focus on hockey and when you walk in there,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and God bless their fans, they they really know how
- 3:27Speaker 2: to participate as a fan base. I've told a couple
- 3:34Speaker 2: of our donors, I said, I'd like you to really
- 3:36Speaker 2: come up and see this, and I'd love for people
- 3:38Speaker 2: at Yukon to come up and see because I think
- 3:41Speaker 2: that's something that we should strive for.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Blueprint.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yes, it's a you know right there, Like you just said,
- 3:47Speaker 2: it's the blueprint for you know, how you want to
- 3:51Speaker 2: architect your building to be on a game night.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Well, and even translating over to men's basketball last year
- 3:57Speaker 3: when they went out to Kansas, I know some administrators
- 3:59Speaker 3: went out to to get an idea of what other
- 4:01Speaker 3: schools do. Not to say that the Yukon basketball atmosphere
- 4:05Speaker 3: is lacking at all, but just sort of getting exposed
- 4:07Speaker 3: to what other what other barns are like.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Right, and we've had two back to back. New Hampshire
- 4:13Speaker 2: does a great job too. They're opening when you get
- 4:15Speaker 2: up there, it's it's impressive. And Maine is probably the
- 4:21Speaker 2: toughest in the league by far.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and he had two really good goaltending performances tie
- 4:27Speaker 1: on on Friday. Good to see him healthy again. That's
- 4:29Speaker 1: back to back games. He's been really good on Friday
- 4:31Speaker 1: and and Calum gave you a chance to get the
- 4:34Speaker 1: point on Saturday.
- 4:35Speaker 2: He was great, especially early. Ty Tye played awesome on
- 4:39Speaker 2: Friday night. You know, he's strung now two back to
- 4:42Speaker 2: back games together here on the road too. And then
- 4:47Speaker 2: Callum came in on Saturday and that first period he
- 4:50Speaker 2: kept us in it. They I mean, we got out
- 4:53Speaker 2: shot fourteen to seven, but he made some big saves.
- 4:59Speaker 3: On Friday, Joey Downy with four goals, the last one
- 5:02Speaker 3: was the empty netter in a four to two victory.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So as that's unfolding, you mentioned third goal that gave
- 5:10Speaker 3: you the lead for good was big one. Were you
- 5:12Speaker 3: surprised when at a certain point are you thinking in
- 5:15Speaker 3: your head, yeah, this he's locked in. This could very
- 5:17Speaker 3: well be just a Joey does it all tonight.
- 5:20Speaker 2: No, that wasn't I didn't even realize that when he
- 5:22Speaker 2: got the hat trick, I didn't even realize that was
- 5:24Speaker 2: his third goal. He just he was you know, pucks
- 5:27Speaker 2: went in for him. Uh. And my staff had said,
- 5:32Speaker 2: if you ever coached a kid that scored four goals
- 5:34Speaker 2: in a game. I said, yeah, I coach Brian Johnston,
- 5:35Speaker 2: you got five in the first period against May in
- 5:38Speaker 2: one year.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Coach Johnny Evans, Johnny Aran's right, yeah.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Goal game too. Yeah, so that was the last one
- 5:44Speaker 2: we've had, right, yes, yes, up until that point.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, the third goal, I mean, that was good play Jake,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I think for Shard captin him around the boards behind
- 5:51Speaker 1: the net, and Honey, who's been phenomenal since coming back.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I mean, he made a fabulous pass in the middle
- 5:57Speaker 1: and I don't know how but Joey Muldowney and I
- 5:59Speaker 1: don't don't think anybody was within five feet of them.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Right it was. Yeah, they had a break down because
- 6:04Speaker 2: that's not normal for them. They had a breakdown defensively,
- 6:09Speaker 2: and it was a one touch pass too. It was
- 6:11Speaker 2: really high end play because Howey knew what he was
- 6:14Speaker 2: doing with that puck before he got it, and Joey
- 6:17Speaker 2: finished it. It was a great finish. All right.
- 6:19Speaker 1: We'll take a break here and we'll get more into
- 6:21Speaker 1: Hudson shand or later. Tyler Helton, associate coach, will join
- 6:25Speaker 1: us in Thomasineo. Here on the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It's Connecticut Ice Week, Yukon and Quinnipiac. The opening act
- 6:32Speaker 1: Friday afternoon at four adam. We'll have it on the radio,
- 6:35Speaker 1: our first hockey game in about two and a half
- 6:37Speaker 1: months on the radio, and then we start going wild.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We got a lot of games to cover in the
- 6:42Speaker 1: month of February. This is the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show
- 6:44Speaker 1: live at Bear Smokehouse Barbecue and Hartford on Learfield
