- 0:02Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:09Speaker 1: a legion, poet, Welcome to Patriot It's unfiltered. You know
- 0:19Speaker 1: how other teams are just kind of reveling in this.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's like finally you know the you know we're getting
- 0:27Speaker 1: they're getting their come uppings. You know, every once against us, Paul,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I forget that. But I know you're irrelevant and I
- 0:34Speaker 1: do not have the highest regard from Mike Florio, as
- 0:37Speaker 1: you know. Terry Bradshaw's still alive. By the way, Jackson
- 0:39Speaker 1: Smith and Jigbo's ad fenoy last night with the Red Sox.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Guess where he's not coming here, He's already here, Like
- 0:45Speaker 1: you don't even need to pay for the flight. So
- 0:47Speaker 1: he called coaches that he's worked with in the past
- 0:49Speaker 1: that he trusts, and that's a problem. But think about Bill,
- 0:53Speaker 1: think about it. I'm done thinking about I know, but
- 0:55Speaker 1: but think du said what I am trying to say
- 0:58Speaker 1: in a much nicer way because I'm just fed up
- 1:00Speaker 1: with this bs in Smith the Jing perfect Like there's
- 1:06Speaker 1: a million cars I can't afford, right, because you if
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm Mac and I play great this year. I tell
- 1:11Speaker 1: the team to go pounce in. Yeah. This is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 1:15Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome in too, Patriots unfilter.
- 1:21Speaker 1: We have a very special show for you today, ladies
- 1:24Speaker 1: and gentlemen. As our two dads are away, Paul and
- 1:27Speaker 1: Fred are at the very important Hall of Fame meeting,
- 1:30Speaker 1: not the Pro Football Hall prestigious, the Patriots Hall of Fame.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So they're over there to catered lunch right now. I'm
- 1:35Speaker 1: sure getting to talk about former Patriots greats to decide
- 1:39Speaker 1: who will be on the ballot for the fans to
- 1:41Speaker 1: go in next So, unfortunately for you guys, that means
- 1:43Speaker 1: you're stuck with I can't call us the kids. I'm
- 1:46Speaker 1: way too old to be a kid. Do some the kids?
- 1:48Speaker 1: All right? I like when to go to Thanksgiving and
- 1:50Speaker 1: you get stuck at the kids table, That's all right.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I like the kids table. I like all you guys.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So who knows that Confers and French Fries coming uncle?
- 1:58Speaker 1: That is the cool uncles Hannon at the adult table.
- 2:01Speaker 1: He's gonna probably spark some controversies. So, but you're young
- 2:04Speaker 1: and uhip enough to get relegated to the kids. I
- 2:06Speaker 1: like it. I just hope I don't spark any controversy
- 2:09Speaker 1: here today. Nothing could be worse than what we just heard.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And like entroing the show, like I told you so,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep my cool. I'm gonna keep my cool today.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do it, not gonna let it get
- 2:19Speaker 1: to me. Now, we're definitely gonna get to have it
- 2:23Speaker 1: get to him absolutely well. According to Evan's Twitter this morning,
- 2:27Speaker 1: he said, the Patriots if they show this much interest
- 2:30Speaker 1: in day Flowers and don't pick him, like he's going
- 2:32Speaker 1: to be very upset. Yeah, I'm gonna be crushed. I've
- 2:35Speaker 1: been doing breathing exercises like our quarterback, preparing myself for
- 2:40Speaker 1: the first round of the draft because preparing to trade out.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I don't want to lose lose it on the draft
- 2:46Speaker 1: show when when they take be Jean Robinson in the
- 2:48Speaker 1: first round. So I've been I've been working on finding
- 2:51Speaker 1: my center and staying calm. I got a good video
- 2:54Speaker 1: idea of if they don't draft day Flowers. It's just
- 2:57Speaker 1: Evan kind of walking down the street and he just sees,
- 2:59Speaker 1: you know, some beautiful bring flowers and just not to
- 3:05Speaker 1: kill just start running through the whole thing and with
- 3:09Speaker 1: the machette or something. But who knows. You know, Evan
- 3:13Speaker 1: does have recency bias. Maybe there's still some time for
- 3:16Speaker 1: him to, you know, flip on that situation and he might.
- 3:19Speaker 1: By the bye then he might be on right. So
- 3:23Speaker 1: I'll tell you because some people ask me this, so like,
- 3:25Speaker 1: when's the moment that you fell in love with a Flowers?
- 3:28Speaker 1: And I'll tell you it was romantic music there man.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It was at the Shrine Bowl And we were talking
- 3:32Speaker 1: to him the day before practices started and I did
- 3:36Speaker 1: that that feature on him for Patriots dot Com and
- 3:38Speaker 1: I was like, are you gonna practice this week? And
- 3:41Speaker 1: he was like, you know what, Uh my dad, who
- 3:44Speaker 1: I think is a big part of his football life.
- 3:46Speaker 1: It said, you know, telling my agent are telling me
- 3:49Speaker 1: not to because I don't need to practice. I have
- 3:51Speaker 1: nothing to prove. But I'm getting sick and tired of
- 3:55Speaker 1: hearing people say I'm not that good and I'm just
- 3:59Speaker 1: gonna go out there and practice anyways. And I was like,
- 4:02Speaker 1: oh my godness, yeah, I love the story also about
- 4:08Speaker 1: his dad, but when he could have transferred from BC
- 4:11Speaker 1: to USC right just and the Nil Money was calling
- 4:14Speaker 1: and his dad was like, they're the only ones who
- 4:16Speaker 1: wanted you when no one wants That's what he Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 1: he talked a little bit about dad, and he mentioned
- 4:22Speaker 1: that exact story, and I looked into it a little
- 4:24Speaker 1: bit more, and they actually offered Jordan Addison and Zay
- 4:27Speaker 1: Flowers and Nil Deal to come play at USC for
- 4:31Speaker 1: a season, and Addison obviously took the bag and Flowers didn't.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm not saying that's like a bad knock on Addison necessarily,
- 4:36Speaker 1: but he's a he's a really faithful guy. And he
- 4:39Speaker 1: committed to the Shrine Bowl early on in the process,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and then the Senior Bowl came calling and he said,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I'm already going to the Shrine even though he probably
- 4:48Speaker 1: belonged at the Senior Bowl. He stuck with the people
- 4:51Speaker 1: at the Shrine Bowl too, So he's a very consistent
- 4:53Speaker 1: dude in that dad. If you're wondering why we're right
- 4:56Speaker 1: on Zay Flowers, there was a tweet this morning from
- 4:57Speaker 1: Tom Pellicero who said that yes, today, Flowers landed at
- 5:01Speaker 1: like six am off a red eye, came right here
- 5:03Speaker 1: and jumped into the fire with Bill O'Brien and and
- 5:06Speaker 1: you know, learning the offense, which you know, Evan and
- 5:08Speaker 1: I were saying, he's probably got a foundation in it
- 5:11Speaker 1: that he got out at the Shrine Bowl. And and
- 5:13Speaker 1: this is probably like quiz time, which I'm sure we've
- 5:16Speaker 1: all taken Red Eyes and you certainly have getting off. Yeah.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Well that and that which was like I was leaning
- 5:23Speaker 1: into it. I'm like, I know, I'm going to be
- 5:24Speaker 1: a mess. I'm no, I gonna say all kinds of
- 5:26Speaker 1: wrong things. I think I dropped. Hopefully Zay Flowers didn't. Well,
- 5:31Speaker 1: he probably did with Billy. Oh, probably a good thing
- 5:33Speaker 1: for him. But there's just no question. He's a local kid.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He's what they need. He's an exciting playmaker, and you know,
- 5:40Speaker 1: every time you talk about him, it's it's the energy
- 5:43Speaker 1: around the team right now. And all the Max stuff
- 5:45Speaker 1: we'll get into a little bit, but there was one
- 5:47Speaker 1: guy that they could select a fourteenth overall that would
- 5:50Speaker 1: all of a sudden maybe reinvigorate people and get them
- 5:53Speaker 1: kind of on board with all right, let's see what
- 5:55Speaker 1: Max got with this. And uh, at one other point
- 5:57Speaker 1: I would make too, like in Max, like Mac did
- 5:59Speaker 1: the same thing. Mac won the National Championship, still went
- 6:03Speaker 1: to the Senior Bowl and practiced and show, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 1: throw it two different pro days. That was you know,
- 6:07Speaker 1: the COVID year when they didn't have the combine. So uh,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I love that stuff from Zay Flowers. And I don't
- 6:12Speaker 1: think anybody can say you wouldn't be thrilled about that pick,
- 6:15Speaker 1: because anybody gonna call in. I mean, I hope. I'm
- 6:17Speaker 1: sure there's somebody out there, one of our listeners that
- 6:19Speaker 1: wouldn't be thrilled. But what a pick. And the Boston
- 6:22Speaker 1: College local thing that I wonder if they work out together.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I've never seen anything about it, but they just put
- 6:28Speaker 1: up that new field house, great place for Mac to
- 6:31Speaker 1: go throw and great great option for him to throw
- 6:34Speaker 1: too up at BC in Chestnut Hill, the Heights. I
- 6:37Speaker 1: just I think, and I speak for all Patriots fans
- 6:40Speaker 1: when I when I say this, I hope is that
- 6:42Speaker 1: aren't you just sick of them passing on these star
- 6:47Speaker 1: receivers in the draft and then watching Justin Jefferson just
- 6:50Speaker 1: go off in Minnesota or DK Metcalf with the Seahawks
- 6:53Speaker 1: or Debo with the Night Like, aren't you, as Patriots fans,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you gotta just be tired of you know, they brought A. J.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Brown in for a visit. They're showing interest in top
- 7:03Speaker 1: receivers and then we know what happens, and I just
- 7:06Speaker 1: feel like, at some point, you gotta you gotta just
- 7:10Speaker 1: take one of these guys. And wasa They've been on
- 7:14Speaker 1: him since the Shrine Bowl. They worked with him there,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and now they're bringing him in for this visit, Like,
- 7:18Speaker 1: why are you wasting this much time with a guy
- 7:20Speaker 1: that you're not interested in and you're not going to
- 7:23Speaker 1: take It just doesn't make sense. I also like that
- 7:26Speaker 1: he's a star, but he also has like a great
- 7:29Speaker 1: like great character and a great personality in the sense
- 7:31Speaker 1: of like he's not a huge like Devo or going
- 7:34Speaker 1: to be a problem for you, or at least we
- 7:35Speaker 1: hope not. I think that he carries himself like very
- 7:38Speaker 1: well loyal to people who believed in him, and I
- 7:42Speaker 1: think that's always a good trait. I don't think he'll
- 7:44Speaker 1: be a problem off the field. I think he's challenges
- 7:47Speaker 1: a lot of the coaches and stuff at BC, And
- 7:50Speaker 1: I was out there pro day just said he's the
- 7:51Speaker 1: same guy that he was when he walked on the
- 7:53Speaker 1: campus four years ago, you know, And he's had a
- 7:56Speaker 1: lot of buzz and hype about him as especially now
- 8:00Speaker 1: in the draft, and he's just kind of hasn't changed.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And you look at like his quarterback play too. At BC,
- 8:06Speaker 1: we talked about this a little bit on the draft pods,
- 8:08Speaker 1: like he's catching he's five foot nine, but he's making
- 8:11Speaker 1: all these acrobatic catches because his quarterbacks weren't so great
- 8:14Speaker 1: and he's still plucking the ball and bringing it in
- 8:17Speaker 1: And I don't know, I just I can't understand it,
- 8:20Speaker 1: Like how do you just how do you get this
- 8:22Speaker 1: much knowledge and this much information and don't do this
- 8:25Speaker 1: much homework on a player like that and then come
- 8:28Speaker 1: draft night, I'm pretty mad about something they haven't done yet.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I get that, but come draft night you just go yeah, no,
- 8:36Speaker 1: no thanks, Like I just can't see that. Yeah, unless
- 8:39Speaker 1: he totally blew it yesterday and was like I don't
- 8:41Speaker 1: I don't remember. I don't remember. I also think that too, like, um,
- 8:45Speaker 1: there's not as much fear with drafting a wide receiver
- 8:48Speaker 1: in the first round and potentially not being able to
- 8:50Speaker 1: develop him. I feel like Zay will do everything in
- 8:53Speaker 1: his power to make sure like he continues to see
- 8:54Speaker 1: it better. Yeah, Whereas I don't know what happened with Nikkilhary.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to know what happened there, um,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but I think before I was kind of like fearful
- 9:03Speaker 1: of if we draft a first round wide receiver and
- 9:06Speaker 1: are not able to develop him and it doesn't work
- 9:09Speaker 1: out like nikkil Harry. Yeah, it's kind of scary. I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 1: I think Nikkil Harry had you know, issues coming in,
- 9:14Speaker 1: but I would say I think part of the problem
- 9:16Speaker 1: for him was that he got hurt, like almost right
- 9:18Speaker 1: away in camp and then he missed all that time.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And you know, it's just especially for any rookie in
- 9:24Speaker 1: any system, you just get behind that eight ball, and
- 9:26Speaker 1: maybe here specifically, once you're behind, it's even harder to
- 9:29Speaker 1: kind of catch up. And you know, when when Tom
- 9:31Speaker 1: Brady was here to you know, earn his trust, those
- 9:34Speaker 1: kind of things. But it would be a great sign,
- 9:36Speaker 1: you know, I think for Mac too. I think Mac
- 9:37Speaker 1: would would love it, would see, you know, one of
- 9:39Speaker 1: his guys. And you know, I did want to. I
- 9:40Speaker 1: did want to just bring out because we spent so
- 9:42Speaker 1: much time on that Mike Florio report on Tuesday's show,
- 9:45Speaker 1: just to bring up, you know, a couple reports from
- 9:47Speaker 1: Mark Daniel's Jeff House saying that they called around and
- 9:50Speaker 1: you know it's kind of news to their sources that
- 9:52Speaker 1: that Mac was available, So you know, you believe what
- 9:54Speaker 1: you want. I know what, Mike Floria was the only
- 9:56Speaker 1: one to to kind of come out with that. There's
- 9:58Speaker 1: you know, some stuff from Dan Patrick today too, which
- 10:00Speaker 1: we don't have to get into, but you know, I
- 10:02Speaker 1: think it's just fair to mention that there were some
- 10:04Speaker 1: pushback on that in terms of you know, where they
- 10:06Speaker 1: shopping him. Was it just a conversation, not to say
- 10:09Speaker 1: that I think Mike Florida is going to make stuff up.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But you also, like Fred insinuated, there can be motivation
- 10:14Speaker 1: for other teams to put information out there, and I
- 10:17Speaker 1: would or agents agents, probably agents really, which I would
- 10:21Speaker 1: also connect to the reports that we kind of have
- 10:23Speaker 1: gotten in mock drafts with Bejean Robinson, which Jeff Howard
- 10:26Speaker 1: another report by him, and you know, Evan is is
- 10:28Speaker 1: grimacing right now. But we are in silly season. I
- 10:31Speaker 1: think that's important to mention. Right now, what are we
- 10:33Speaker 1: We're three weeks away today from the first round of
- 10:36Speaker 1: the draft, and this is when all the misinformation and
- 10:38Speaker 1: you know, so was Evan and I were texting. I mean,
- 10:41Speaker 1: if you're the Patriots, wouldn't you love it? If you're
- 10:43Speaker 1: Bejean Robinson, he's good. But what we'd really love is
- 10:46Speaker 1: for someone to think we want them to trade up
- 10:48Speaker 1: above us, and then as a flowers, you know, one
- 10:51Speaker 1: of the tackles somebody they might have their eye on
- 10:53Speaker 1: could get pushed down. So it's always a mind game,
- 10:56Speaker 1: especially right now when we're three weeks in, and that's
- 10:59Speaker 1: just something important. Don't believe everything you read, but it
- 11:02Speaker 1: does seem like somebody wants that information out there. But
- 11:04Speaker 1: I think, like when I saw that report, I was
- 11:07Speaker 1: landing and I was like, it's kind of believable if
- 11:10Speaker 1: you think about it, just because we haven't really gotten
- 11:12Speaker 1: a straight answer from Bill. We were right in front
- 11:14Speaker 1: of Bill at an owner's meetings where he said everybody's
- 11:17Speaker 1: gonna have a chance to play when the question was
- 11:19Speaker 1: asked if Bailey Zappy would be competing against him. Obviously
- 11:22Speaker 1: Bill never answers a question straight anyways, but I think
- 11:25Speaker 1: it's very intriguing that he said he's never really said
- 11:30Speaker 1: Max our guy. He's always like Mac is a quarterback
- 11:33Speaker 1: in this league. Everybody will have a chance to play
- 11:35Speaker 1: like he's never fully committed to quarterback. Yeah, Mac is
- 11:40Speaker 1: a quarterback, Yes he is. We know this, and so
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think that there there is something in me that's
- 11:45Speaker 1: like that that could potentially be true. And we also
- 11:48Speaker 1: see that the Raiders are stealing not stealing at this point.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I mean, it wouldn't be surprising to see Matt go
- 11:56Speaker 1: there with the way everybody's been going there. It would
- 11:58Speaker 1: have happened before on below, right. I mean that that
- 12:01Speaker 1: would where he could come behind Baropolo and learn from him.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I mean, I think he'd make a good point to
- 12:06Speaker 1: Mary and the people that are just like dismissed it
- 12:09Speaker 1: out of hand. I feel like we're not really paying
- 12:11Speaker 1: attention to the last four months of how he's kind
- 12:14Speaker 1: of been treated. And you know it's it's you mentioned
- 12:17Speaker 1: Jacoby Leaves. You know. So there are a lot of
- 12:20Speaker 1: things up against it right now. But I don't think
- 12:22Speaker 1: any of us want to spend the whole day. I'm
- 12:24Speaker 1: not talking. I'm not getting frustrated about this. I will
- 12:28Speaker 1: not I want to say one thing about it, and
- 12:30Speaker 1: I'm not gonna. I'm not doing it today. I'm not
- 12:32Speaker 1: doing it. I'm not letting this get to me. I
- 12:34Speaker 1: think the one thing that the reason why I get
- 12:36Speaker 1: so frustrated and why I got so frustrated about it
- 12:38Speaker 1: on Tuesday, is because I was here in twenty and
- 12:42Speaker 1: eighteen and twenty nineteen when the relationship between Bill Belichick
- 12:46Speaker 1: and Tom Brady deteriorated to the point where Brady left,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and that to me, everybody makes that about the contract,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and that to me was two people that it was
- 12:57Speaker 1: like a divorce, right It was two people that just
- 13:00Speaker 1: fell out of love. With the reconcilable difference right there,
- 13:03Speaker 1: that was a personal relationship issue. The money and all
- 13:08Speaker 1: that other stuff. I ultimately think that they would have
- 13:11Speaker 1: made all that work if Brady came to the table
- 13:14Speaker 1: and said, I'm not going anywhere like this is where
- 13:17Speaker 1: I want to be. And I'm staying my point being
- 13:20Speaker 1: is that whether there's a rift or not, whether he's
- 13:23Speaker 1: on the trade block or not, there's clearly some sort
- 13:25Speaker 1: of reluctance on Bill Belichick's part with Mac Jones to
- 13:29Speaker 1: anoint him, make him the starter, name him the starter publicly.
- 13:33Speaker 1: And at this point we're going on now the second
- 13:37Speaker 1: quarterback that Bill has sort of been at odds with
- 13:41Speaker 1: and at what point do we look in at the
- 13:44Speaker 1: situation and say, there's a common denominator here, like two
- 13:47Speaker 1: different quarterbacks. Brady obviously a little bit more, a little
- 13:52Speaker 1: bit more, a lot more of a star than mac Jones,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but mac Jones is also a name brand, Like he's
- 13:58Speaker 1: a quarterback that people know he played at out of Bama.
- 14:00Speaker 1: He was a first round pick. And now we have
- 14:02Speaker 1: two quarterbacks with at least a little bit of name recognition.
- 14:06Speaker 1: If you don't want to call Givemack anything more than that,
- 14:09Speaker 1: that are not exactly getting along with Bill Belichick. And
- 14:14Speaker 1: I think at some point in time you have to
- 14:17Speaker 1: look and see the situation objectively that the common denominator
- 14:21Speaker 1: here is Bill. And I think once upon a time,
- 14:24Speaker 1: with all the way back to lawyer malloy, right like
- 14:26Speaker 1: that was the first guy I can I can remember
- 14:29Speaker 1: having some issues with Bill, Dion Branch, Logan makings Sante
- 14:33Speaker 1: Samuel clearly continues to talk about it to this day.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You were good enough to get over those things, right.
- 14:40Speaker 1: You were good enough to trade Dion Branch. You were
- 14:42Speaker 1: good enough to dump Lawrence or lawyer malloy. Excuse me,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but are you good enough now to be alienating good
- 14:50Speaker 1: football players, and I just I don't think you are. Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 1: that's interesting. I mean I would say that you know,
- 14:55Speaker 1: a lot of those were contract related and those guys,
- 14:57Speaker 1: you know, whether it was having to take pay cuts,
- 14:59Speaker 1: wanting you contract acts that he wasn't willing to bet,
- 15:02Speaker 1: you know, bend on. So, I mean, I do think
- 15:03Speaker 1: that this is a little bit different, and not in
- 15:05Speaker 1: a great way because this isn't as cut and dry
- 15:08Speaker 1: as that. It isn't just Mac wants more money and
- 15:10Speaker 1: they don't want to give it to him. But you know,
- 15:12Speaker 1: you're right, It's just I don't I don't think they
- 15:14Speaker 1: can hit the reset button right now on Mac and
- 15:15Speaker 1: then go to what you know. So that's the thing.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It's like, if you're telling me that it's Mac or
- 15:19Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, then we've all had this conversation already on
- 15:22Speaker 1: this show, and everybody knows where I standing, where I'm
- 15:24Speaker 1: sure we all stand. But if it's just we don't
- 15:27Speaker 1: we need to get rid of Mac because I don't
- 15:28Speaker 1: like the kid. That's not a good enough answer to me. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: it's just not good enough. You know. If there's a
- 15:34Speaker 1: great alternative, that's one thing, But to go back into
- 15:37Speaker 1: the quarterback carousel just because Mac pounded last season, because
- 15:40Speaker 1: you made Matt Patricia the offensive coordinator, That's that doesn't
- 15:44Speaker 1: do it for me. I saw something kind of interesting.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I don't know how much creedance I'm putting into it,
- 15:48Speaker 1: but just regarding how Mac allegedly went outside of the
- 15:52Speaker 1: Patriots to try to seek help with the offense, and
- 15:55Speaker 1: then have how Brian Hoyer and Jacoby both had spoken
- 15:59Speaker 1: with reporters about the offense is disfunction. And now those
- 16:03Speaker 1: are two guys that were shipped out and then which
- 16:06Speaker 1: didn't make like necessarily a ton of sense, and then
- 16:08Speaker 1: now Mac obviously these rumors. I forget who I saw
- 16:12Speaker 1: kind of speculating on that scenario. But there's a lot
- 16:16Speaker 1: going on, and we're off to a rip roaring start here.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I think I've worked through just about everything I had
- 16:20Speaker 1: planned to talk about in the first sixteen minutes of
- 16:23Speaker 1: the show. But we, of course, we'd love to hear
- 16:24Speaker 1: from you guys. Give us a call eight eight eight
- 16:26Speaker 1: PATS five hundred, shoot us an email, web radio at
- 16:29Speaker 1: Patriots dot com. We've already got some emails coming in.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I also just wanted to set the table a little bit.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And I apologize girls, because I know you didn't spend
- 16:38Speaker 1: your nineties and aughts watching as super Patriots fans. But
- 16:42Speaker 1: but Paul and and Fred Arrow over there and they're
- 16:44Speaker 1: going to be discussing some names, and I'm sure the
- 16:46Speaker 1: fans have plenty of strong opinions. A few of the
- 16:49Speaker 1: names that I know are are probably going to be up,
- 16:51Speaker 1: names that have been recently up Parcels Mike Rabel, which
- 16:55Speaker 1: is you know, my guy continues to be there, Logan Mankins,
- 16:59Speaker 1: Welstlker is available as well, and I I Brady is this?
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't know, is Brady? Like? Could they possibly come
- 17:06Speaker 1: out of there and say like we're gonna put Brady in? Like?
- 17:08Speaker 1: I don't so I asked the question when we were
- 17:11Speaker 1: talking about it. I asked Paul if that was when
- 17:14Speaker 1: we were talking about ways to honor Brady now that
- 17:17Speaker 1: he's we think officially retired, And I had just asked, well,
- 17:23Speaker 1: what about just putting him into the Patriots All Fame
- 17:26Speaker 1: without a voting process and without the grace period, and all,
- 17:29Speaker 1: I mean thought, we really, is he not going to
- 17:31Speaker 1: win the fan vote? Like? Yeah? Are we? What are
- 17:33Speaker 1: we wasting our time here? With that, So I wouldn't
- 17:36Speaker 1: be surprised if if they discussed that today and maybe
- 17:40Speaker 1: go that direction. A lot of a lot of other
- 17:42Speaker 1: coaches too, that are you know, I'van Fears, Sante Scarneckia,
- 17:45Speaker 1: all these different guys that you know possibly could be
- 17:48Speaker 1: in this process as well. But I just I love
- 17:50Speaker 1: the bill parcels of it all, which is just such
- 17:52Speaker 1: a great debate point. Um. You know, I've said my piece.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I've kind of come around to it, and I'm kind
- 17:57Speaker 1: of open to him being in the Hall of Fame.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Stop it. I mean, I feel like he set the
- 18:01Speaker 1: stage you want to put a five hundred coach in
- 18:04Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. Well, and his drafts, his drafts
- 18:07Speaker 1: were really good. That was halfway out the door then
- 18:12Speaker 1: during a Super Bowl and that's a that's a valid
- 18:14Speaker 1: counter and Fred to make that point too, Um, But
- 18:17Speaker 1: but I have to speak from my own experience as
- 18:19Speaker 1: a Patriots fan who witnessed one win seasons. He completely
- 18:23Speaker 1: changed everything here for me, and it suddenly it made
- 18:25Speaker 1: the Patriots seem like instead of an also ran. And
- 18:27Speaker 1: I know I'm probably in the minority here and people,
- 18:29Speaker 1: you know, can call in and yell at me and
- 18:31Speaker 1: I'm not saying I'm I'm pounding the table for it,
- 18:33Speaker 1: but I just can't ignore, you know, fifteen sixteen year
- 18:36Speaker 1: old Mike two so or whatever I was when they
- 18:38Speaker 1: finally hired him, and it was like, oh my gosh,
- 18:40Speaker 1: we have like an actual team now, you know, and
- 18:42Speaker 1: you know, to go from that point, I'm trying to
- 18:44Speaker 1: think of a team right now that that might be
- 18:46Speaker 1: a good example that, you know, just as been absolute trash.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And then within two years, you've got a franchise quarterback,
- 18:52Speaker 1: You've got a franchise running back unfortunately lose, You've got
- 18:54Speaker 1: the makings of a defense that would dominate the following decade,
- 18:58Speaker 1: and you go to a Super Bowl. Now, everything you
- 19:00Speaker 1: said it's totally right, and the fact that he was
- 19:02Speaker 1: on the phone with the Jets of all teams. And
- 19:04Speaker 1: I can tell you too from experience being in college
- 19:07Speaker 1: watching the Tuna Bowls how badly I wanted to beat
- 19:10Speaker 1: Bill Parcels in those games too, So I get it.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I used to be on the other side. I'm a
- 19:14Speaker 1: little bit on this side too, But for me, I
- 19:17Speaker 1: just love Mike Vrabel and I think it's ridiculous that he,
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know, like the fans have to like step up.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I mean, how many touchdown catches to Mike Rabelhow I'd
- 19:23Speaker 1: have to look at the stats, but he's got something
- 19:24Speaker 1: like I look like I had, like the there's a
- 19:26Speaker 1: graphic online circulating where it's really well done. It shows
- 19:29Speaker 1: all the touchdowns that the players that have caught from
- 19:31Speaker 1: Tom Brady and it's like Mike Vrabel is like tenth, Like,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I mean, it's insane. He played on the other side
- 19:38Speaker 1: of the ball touchdowns in the Super Bowls, so I
- 19:41Speaker 1: had to say my piece on that. And then of
- 19:42Speaker 1: course the last one is just Wes Welker, which unfortunately
- 19:45Speaker 1: is a controversial pick because he dropped the ball and
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know, however, you want to see that play better throw? Yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I know it's a rough throw. Probably should have been caught.
- 19:55Speaker 1: That's how I kind of look at it. But each
- 19:57Speaker 1: of these guys were getting into Now nobody's really a slam.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Everybody's kind of got some issues with the fans because
- 20:02Speaker 1: the fans vote. The fans are the ones who are
- 20:04Speaker 1: responsible to put these guys in. Yeah, I think Frabel
- 20:06Speaker 1: has a tough time because he is currently the active
- 20:09Speaker 1: coach of the Titans. Oh have beat the Patriots, and particular, Yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 1: Brady's last game as a Patriot is a lost to
- 20:19Speaker 1: Mike Frabel. So I think for fans that are specially
- 20:23Speaker 1: maybe more knowledgeable about the team right now and not
- 20:27Speaker 1: necessarily like the early two thousands Patriots teams that he
- 20:30Speaker 1: played on, might be thinking of more than Mike Frabel
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Titans coach. And does the optics of putting in
- 20:37Speaker 1: another team's coach into your Hall of Fame's controlling Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 1: it's a it's a little a little strange. At half
- 20:44Speaker 1: time in the game, I can't believe that you're you
- 20:47Speaker 1: want Bill Parcels and I can't. I mean want is
- 20:50Speaker 1: uh want is? Maybe said I want it? Uh, I
- 20:55Speaker 1: would say more, I'm open to get kicked off to
- 20:58Speaker 1: Desmond Howard. He ast me, that was it. That's like
- 21:01Speaker 1: six year old Evan. I knew he was throwing the
- 21:04Speaker 1: game at that point, Desmond Howard, the greatest returner of
- 21:09Speaker 1: his generation. In the Super Bowl, when you have a
- 21:11Speaker 1: lead in the second half and you kick no, yeah, no, no,
- 21:16Speaker 1: I hear you. And that was right as the game
- 21:17Speaker 1: you felt like, oh my gosh, we might actually have
- 21:19Speaker 1: a chance. And now this was like I was I
- 21:21Speaker 1: think a sophomore in college, and I also had mono
- 21:22Speaker 1: at the time, so I was a little bit of
- 21:24Speaker 1: a fever dream. I actually I had mono and pneumonia
- 21:27Speaker 1: at the same time. In college, I was very I
- 21:31Speaker 1: was very sick. Where you sick? Are you living in
- 21:33Speaker 1: a dorm at that time? Oh yeah? Oh yeah makes
- 21:35Speaker 1: playing hockey, you know. I just and I played a
- 21:38Speaker 1: game actually like with it. Yeah, the day before, like
- 21:42Speaker 1: we were up at Hobart up up in upstate New
- 21:45Speaker 1: York and they have like an outdoor rink and I
- 21:47Speaker 1: was like, I just I am deaf. And we played
- 21:49Speaker 1: the game. We all played horrible. Remember I remember missing
- 21:51Speaker 1: like a couple really really good scoring chances too. I'm like, man,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I just I don't feel terrible. Got back and like
- 21:57Speaker 1: went to the went to the information Thank you. I
- 22:00Speaker 1: was sick. I almost died. I'll wrap it up quick.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But yeah, I went to the doctor and they're like,
- 22:04Speaker 1: oh my gosh, you are sick, kid, Like you got
- 22:06Speaker 1: to you gotta go to the doctor. So anyway, yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 1: that's uh, anyway, that was I wasn't I wasn't born
- 22:12Speaker 1: for for eighty five obviously, but you know, my dad
- 22:17Speaker 1: my uncle's you know grandfathers. They would tell me about
- 22:20Speaker 1: stories about the that Super Bowl, and they were just
- 22:23Speaker 1: happy to beat in that Super Bowl. And they knew
- 22:26Speaker 1: they were going to get their blown doors blown off
- 22:28Speaker 1: by the eighty five Bears. Like there was there up
- 22:29Speaker 1: three nothing. There was no conversation of whether or not
- 22:32Speaker 1: they were gonna win that game. But the Packers Super Bowl,
- 22:35Speaker 1: they they probably should have won the game just the
- 22:38Speaker 1: way that the game unfolded. And to me, Parcels is
- 22:43Speaker 1: as much to blame. I mean, Reggie White, like can
- 22:45Speaker 1: we we don't put a tight end over there, chip them,
- 22:48Speaker 1: like do something. This is all retroactive because however he's
- 22:53Speaker 1: so mad about like a little baby Evan getting mad
- 22:58Speaker 1: whipping his blanket. And when I was when I was young,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and this is this is full off season jus telling
- 23:04Speaker 1: us about how we was sick in college and I
- 23:06Speaker 1: was a young and you know, I'd watched I watched
- 23:09Speaker 1: games at you know, restaurants and bars with my dad
- 23:12Speaker 1: and we would just go up to the bar. And
- 23:18Speaker 1: so I would I would like, you know, be like
- 23:19Speaker 1: six years old and uh and and we we would
- 23:23Speaker 1: just like go up to the bar and and just
- 23:26Speaker 1: to see the score and what was going on in
- 23:28Speaker 1: the game and everything, and I would obviously be spouting
- 23:31Speaker 1: off takes and some adults would would take it like
- 23:35Speaker 1: well and be like, oh, this is kind of cute,
- 23:37Speaker 1: Like this little kid is probably grinding some gears with
- 23:40Speaker 1: some people, and some adults would be like, who the
- 23:42Speaker 1: heck is this kid? Like this is ridiculous. So I
- 23:45Speaker 1: had some some stories where I got into some trouble,
- 23:47Speaker 1: you know, people getting fed up with a six year
- 23:50Speaker 1: old telling them that they're wrong so to hear one.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so actually one time, I'll tell you a
- 23:56Speaker 1: quick story story time. And uh, it was at my
- 24:00Speaker 1: dad's cousin's wedding, and my parents tell the story better
- 24:05Speaker 1: than me. But I was in a group of people
- 24:07Speaker 1: and we were arguing Celtics knicks at the time, like
- 24:10Speaker 1: that was you know something that was the Knicks were
- 24:13Speaker 1: actually good back then or something. It was. It was
- 24:15Speaker 1: enough of arrival ready to argue about it. And my
- 24:18Speaker 1: parents were somewhere else and I was there by myself
- 24:21Speaker 1: and my parents like over here somebody being like, yeah,
- 24:25Speaker 1: there's there's this kid in the other room and he's
- 24:27Speaker 1: like going toe to toe with the adults about about sports,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and he's he knows what he's talking about, but you know,
- 24:34Speaker 1: it's I think it's getting under some people's skins. And
- 24:36Speaker 1: my dad just looks at my mom and goes, I'll
- 24:38Speaker 1: be right back, it goes, and I'm just sitting in
- 24:42Speaker 1: there holding court, like all these people are around me,
- 24:45Speaker 1: and I'm just like telling them that, you know, they're
- 24:46Speaker 1: idiots or whatever. So you got YouTube channel. This was born,
- 24:51Speaker 1: you know, I was born like this. I'm sorry. I
- 24:53Speaker 1: gotta ask you guys, though, Like, are there any particular games,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I mean not Patriots game, but just general sporting events
- 24:59Speaker 1: or games that you were remember as a kid being
- 25:01Speaker 1: really impacted by, like for the first time, or feeling
- 25:04Speaker 1: like invested for the first time in the ball After
- 25:07Speaker 1: going undefeated, I got home from my friend Carly's house
- 25:10Speaker 1: and went to town on my aim away message, like
- 25:13Speaker 1: randtically like as long as that away message could be,
- 25:18Speaker 1: I was probably cursing up a storm. I would pay
- 25:21Speaker 1: so much money to archive all that and find it
- 25:23Speaker 1: all and some messenger, I'm sure it's probably out there.
- 25:26Speaker 1: What were you to marry you at some college football
- 25:28Speaker 1: stuff or yeah, I was trying to think of like
- 25:30Speaker 1: some college games, um that I really enjoyed. Honestly, I'd
- 25:34Speaker 1: probably have to say like Alabama losing in like the
- 25:38Speaker 1: Iron Bowl every single time, like that was like that
- 25:41Speaker 1: was like iconic for me. Especially the kick six. I
- 25:43Speaker 1: think that was probably my favorite one that I've ever seen.
- 25:45Speaker 1: What's that? What was that one they try to kick
- 25:48Speaker 1: a field goal? Oh? And the and one? I just
- 25:53Speaker 1: saw that on Saban and Belichick that special they talked
- 25:56Speaker 1: about that and yeah, which like slightly off topic, like
- 25:59Speaker 1: that was crazy to hear Bill Belichick and Nick Saban
- 26:01Speaker 1: kind of talking about times they screwed up because you
- 26:03Speaker 1: don't really hear that ever, that was one of them.
- 26:06Speaker 1: That was that was one of them. Grand Nick said, yeah, yeah,
- 26:10Speaker 1: that was one of the bad ones. But yeah, that's
- 26:13Speaker 1: you brought up the Super Bowl in the eighties. You're
- 26:15Speaker 1: right though, it was funny, like and I brought it
- 26:17Speaker 1: up before you can go on YouTube and check out
- 26:18Speaker 1: the Patriots and we and you know, you got all
- 26:21Speaker 1: of Boston was just so excited. And now it's like
- 26:24Speaker 1: I could never in a million years imagine anybody being
- 26:28Speaker 1: that like just I don't know, just positive and like, wow,
- 26:33Speaker 1: isn't this great? We're going to play in the super Bowl.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Like instead you'd be hearing all the reasons why they're
- 26:37Speaker 1: gonna lose or you know, like why they shouldn't be
- 26:40Speaker 1: there or those are like the stories that that drive
- 26:42Speaker 1: things now. But I just remember being I don't know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I was probably about ten at the time, and you know,
- 26:47Speaker 1: being excited, and then all of a sudden, oh god,
- 26:50Speaker 1: this is not good. No, And then you got the refrigerator,
- 26:53Speaker 1: Perry running touchdowns it and all that. So it's I
- 26:58Speaker 1: was young good in nineties. I was young. I was
- 27:01Speaker 1: I was a baby the same I was four. But
- 27:04Speaker 1: the first true heartbreak was Aaron Boone definitely, Like that
- 27:08Speaker 1: was the first time where sports like truly crushed me,
- 27:12Speaker 1: especially because you know the Patriots where I had just
- 27:14Speaker 1: one to know one and I mean that was obviously
- 27:17Speaker 1: kicking off what ended up being a ridiculous run. But
- 27:20Speaker 1: that was the first time where I was truly devastated
- 27:24Speaker 1: by a sports loss. I would say it would be
- 27:27Speaker 1: it would be Boone Cup Finals nineteen ninety Bruins Edmonton Oilers.
- 27:31Speaker 1: That that got me too. That was that was probably
- 27:33Speaker 1: the worst I remember getting in trouble, like mildly in trouble.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I was like a little first grader. I think it
- 27:38Speaker 1: was it must have been that O one super Bowl
- 27:40Speaker 1: or kindergarten or something, but it was Groundhog Day, like
- 27:44Speaker 1: the same weekend. And then I got back to school
- 27:46Speaker 1: on Monday and everyone's talking about like the groundhog seeing
- 27:49Speaker 1: his shadow, and I'm like, what the hell are you
- 27:50Speaker 1: people talking about? The Patriots just won the Super Bowl?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Like what are we doing here? It's funny, though, you
- 27:56Speaker 1: see the miss Parallax class didn't I didn't care, I guess,
- 27:59Speaker 1: but you see the like little evidence of what you
- 28:01Speaker 1: were gonna maybe end up kind of doing, like just little.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I mean, you were just already doing it, apparently. The thing. Uh, well,
- 28:11Speaker 1: we got plenty of emails here, and let's Patty's been
- 28:13Speaker 1: holding for a while, so let's let's let's jump over
- 28:15Speaker 1: to the phones here so we don't make poor Patty
- 28:17Speaker 1: hold on. I'm sure he's dying to talk to the
- 28:20Speaker 1: B Squad. No Paul, Hey Patty, what's going on? No Paul, No,
- 28:22Speaker 1: no Fred? So I apologize. You gotta ask us all
- 28:26Speaker 1: that's all right? I love the B Squad, Like like
- 28:29Speaker 1: where the conversation is going to? Um, I'll just say
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'll never forget. Um My first I think, my first
- 28:37Speaker 1: um Boston sports moment was when I was ten. I
- 28:40Speaker 1: went to Fenway Park a couple of times and um,
- 28:43Speaker 1: actually I got you know, my my parents were old school,
- 28:48Speaker 1: so I got the craft picked out of me after
- 28:50Speaker 1: the fact. But I was in Fenway Park watching the game.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I think they were playing the Detroit Tigers, and the
- 28:57Speaker 1: being the bright kid that I was, I was picking
- 29:00Speaker 1: peanuts up my nose and shooting shooting them out at
- 29:02Speaker 1: people in the crowd. Um, So that that speaks to
- 29:07Speaker 1: my intelligence and you know. Um. But also like my
- 29:13Speaker 1: very first big Patriots moment was Super Bowl twenty. I
- 29:17Speaker 1: was I was an OG bandwagoner. I pretty much liked
- 29:20Speaker 1: every other sport and every other team before I liked
- 29:23Speaker 1: the Patriots. And my first game was nineteen ninety one.
- 29:28Speaker 1: They played the defending AFC champion Buffalo Bills and beat
- 29:33Speaker 1: him sixteen to thirteen. Um. And it was like right
- 29:36Speaker 1: around Thanksgiving. I'll never forget like Q Milan threw a
- 29:40Speaker 1: fifty yard touchdown pass Urban Fryar and that like one
- 29:44Speaker 1: of three wins that season he had. They No, they
- 29:47Speaker 1: went not they won six and ten that year, and
- 29:50Speaker 1: there was the next that they were going to be good,
- 29:52Speaker 1: and then of course the next year they go too
- 29:55Speaker 1: and fourteen and end up drafted jubilat Sodie hereafter and
- 29:57Speaker 1: the two wins that year Dante was the interim head coach.
- 30:04Speaker 1: But just just a quick question for you guys to um,
- 30:10Speaker 1: what do you think will happen if the team as
- 30:12Speaker 1: it's construed, minus what they do in the draft, you know,
- 30:15Speaker 1: when the rubber meets the road in September, do you
- 30:18Speaker 1: think do you think they'd put all this this crap
- 30:20Speaker 1: as or as Sam Malone would say, it's the drama
- 30:23Speaker 1: behind them and just say, hey, let's let's make this happen.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Because even though like the offense was an epis past year,
- 30:31Speaker 1: they still did end up winning eight games and they
- 30:33Speaker 1: came close to you know, there were one went away
- 30:37Speaker 1: from making the playoffs. I think even with as much
- 30:40Speaker 1: talent as we see in the AFC's I don't think
- 30:44Speaker 1: it's out in the realm of the possibilities. If they're able,
- 30:48Speaker 1: if everyone's able to you know, squash the squash to
- 30:51Speaker 1: her feelings and put twenty twenty two back into twenty
- 30:55Speaker 1: twenty two and focused on this year. I can see
- 30:57Speaker 1: this team making the playoffs. What do you guys think? Yeah? Thanks,
- 31:01Speaker 1: that's good, h good discussion. And I mean I do
- 31:04Speaker 1: think like if you're gonna maybe color at the Fred
- 31:06Speaker 1: positive way of Yeah, they won eight games with an
- 31:10Speaker 1: offense that like everyone was not behind and didn't believe in.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And you know, it's just I guess it's hard for
- 31:17Speaker 1: me to see I think that, like, like I still
- 31:19Speaker 1: think Bill Belichick is a really good coach, and the
- 31:23Speaker 1: team has constituted. I think they can they could probably
- 31:25Speaker 1: squeeze out six, seven, eight, nine wins again, Like, you know,
- 31:28Speaker 1: it's just how do you get over the hump? How
- 31:30Speaker 1: do you beat the good teams? And I struggle, even
- 31:33Speaker 1: with Bill Belichick, especially in the vision, which I always
- 31:36Speaker 1: say it starts for me, how do you get over
- 31:38Speaker 1: the hump? Like, and it's hard to say with the
- 31:41Speaker 1: team constituted, and you really, the only thing you can
- 31:43Speaker 1: really hang your hat on is the fact that they
- 31:46Speaker 1: have hired Bill O'Brien and that they have you know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: hired an actual offensive line coach. You know, the players
- 31:51Speaker 1: are fine, and I think they've done enough, and I
- 31:53Speaker 1: think their defense is pretty good. But I can't sit
- 31:56Speaker 1: here and say that I think that they can get
- 31:57Speaker 1: over the hump and consistently beat playoff team. What was
- 32:00Speaker 1: what did I have? Five and fourteen? Is what they
- 32:01Speaker 1: are against playoff teams over the last three years? Like
- 32:04Speaker 1: how is it any different? I don't know? And and
- 32:06Speaker 1: and how much do you really think any rookie is
- 32:08Speaker 1: really going to change that? Like Zay Flowers great? Is that?
- 32:12Speaker 1: Is he worth two three wins? I can't really say that.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I don't believe. I need to see it come together
- 32:20Speaker 1: on the field. Yeah, I think that in order to
- 32:23Speaker 1: get back into the playoffs, let's just put it there.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Like Robert Kraft said he wants to be back in
- 32:28Speaker 1: the playoffs next year, you have to do. You have
- 32:30Speaker 1: to win some games that maybe US prognosticators don't expect
- 32:35Speaker 1: you to win, right, Like, you have to win at
- 32:36Speaker 1: least I would say two of those games without losing
- 32:40Speaker 1: the Chicago right that they lost year to get to
- 32:44Speaker 1: ten eleven wins and make the playoffs. And I think
- 32:46Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one there were a few instances where
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'll pull a Pall since we've we've already pulled a
- 32:53Speaker 1: Fred where they got some luck you know, from injuries
- 32:56Speaker 1: and things like that on the opponent. And if Tennessee
- 32:59Speaker 1: comes in here with a full arsenal, do they beat
- 33:03Speaker 1: Tennessee in twenty twenty one? Do they do they beat
- 33:07Speaker 1: some of those teams that were banged up like that
- 33:09Speaker 1: or didn't have everybody available against the Patriots? I don't know.
- 33:15Speaker 1: So I think that that's the problem right now, is
- 33:18Speaker 1: that you're in that margin of how do you pull
- 33:22Speaker 1: off an upset against Buffalo, how do you finally solve
- 33:25Speaker 1: Miami right for to get a win against the Dolphins?
- 33:29Speaker 1: How do you do those things to get yourself to
- 33:32Speaker 1: eleven wins where we're talking about playoffs. I think it's
- 33:35Speaker 1: they're still a little bit aways from that, and I
- 33:37Speaker 1: think it's worth noting that I don't think we're going
- 33:40Speaker 1: to have the same luck that we had this year
- 33:42Speaker 1: and playing so many backups, Yeah, how many backup quarterbacks
- 33:46Speaker 1: did we play this? I mean, that's the thing for
- 33:48Speaker 1: a few years, you know, and then even you tackle
- 33:50Speaker 1: on like the Jets, you can't forget about the Jets,
- 33:52Speaker 1: who I mean, obviously they're still trying to figure out
- 33:54Speaker 1: this whole Rand Roger situation. But if they get him
- 33:57Speaker 1: that's not going to be like a guaranteed two wins, right, Like,
- 34:00Speaker 1: that's just I mean, how those games went last year
- 34:04Speaker 1: down to the very final play of the game. And
- 34:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna say it again, I can't. I can't ignore
- 34:09Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers coming here to the Patriots. I can't. I mean,
- 34:12Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm probably crazy and there's probably no chance.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But the longer it drags out with the Jets and them,
- 34:17Speaker 1: at what point does Green Bay say, you know what,
- 34:19Speaker 1: we need to figure out what we need, what we want,
- 34:21Speaker 1: you know, and we're not going to sit around and
- 34:23Speaker 1: wait for the Jets to finally give in, especially and
- 34:26Speaker 1: it just doesn't it seem like it would be totally
- 34:28Speaker 1: something that Bill would do to swoop in and take
- 34:31Speaker 1: him from Jets, you know. And I know he's always
- 34:33Speaker 1: intrigue with those players. I'm not saying it's going to happen,
- 34:35Speaker 1: but I just I can't completely rule that one out,
- 34:38Speaker 1: especially because I feel like Aaron Rodgers, like I know,
- 34:40Speaker 1: and I believe me, I don't. I'm not a huge
- 34:42Speaker 1: fan of him off the field in terms of who
- 34:45Speaker 1: like as a quarterback. As an athlete, he's awesome, but
- 34:48Speaker 1: it would be a challenge. It would be a challenge,
- 34:50Speaker 1: But at the same time, I think when you see
- 34:53Speaker 1: a generational football player who can still play at a
- 34:55Speaker 1: high level and would instantly change the conversation here more
- 34:59Speaker 1: so than any rookie you could possibly draft. I don't know.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I still I'm still kind of thinking it might it
- 35:05Speaker 1: could possibly happen, yea. And he would also bring Obj
- 35:07Speaker 1: with him like he would he wants him, like he
- 35:09Speaker 1: would obviously bring that whole list with him of people
- 35:12Speaker 1: that he wants. But and Obj is the same thing
- 35:13Speaker 1: where he's like holding out for who's gonna give me
- 35:16Speaker 1: that money? Who's gonna give maybe nobody? And he wants
- 35:18Speaker 1: a good quarterback too, though, And as we have three
- 35:20Speaker 1: weeks to go, this is when this is when the
- 35:22Speaker 1: rubber starts to meet the road and teams say, look,
- 35:24Speaker 1: we're not waiting for a twenty twenty four pick. We
- 35:26Speaker 1: want a twenty twenty three first rounder right now, and
- 35:29Speaker 1: if you're not going to give it to us, we're
- 35:30Speaker 1: gonna start talking to other teams and see what they're
- 35:32Speaker 1: willing to give up. I don't know if the Patriots
- 35:34Speaker 1: are going to be able willing to give up a
- 35:35Speaker 1: first round pick for him, And there's the money thing,
- 35:37Speaker 1: and there's plenty of reasons to say why it couldn't
- 35:39Speaker 1: work and it's impossible. But I just think, at the
- 35:42Speaker 1: end of the day, here's a quarterback who I know,
- 35:44Speaker 1: Bill Belichick respects, who's a great player, who clearly is
- 35:48Speaker 1: not you know, as much as Lamar is a wonderful
- 35:50Speaker 1: guy and a wonderful player. I mean, there are some
- 35:53Speaker 1: significant changes that will probably need to happen if you
- 35:55Speaker 1: bring Lamar Jackson. I would just say less so than
- 35:57Speaker 1: if you were to say, let's tailor this offense to
- 35:59Speaker 1: air and Rodgers. Would you give pick fourteen for him? No?
- 36:02Speaker 1: I know, and that's that's probably what it would take.
- 36:04Speaker 1: And I'm gonna I would say no. And then you say, well,
- 36:06Speaker 1: then it's happening. Well that's what the Jets are dealing
- 36:08Speaker 1: with right now with the Packers. But I just think
- 36:11Speaker 1: with this whole offseason, the only the only thing that
- 36:15Speaker 1: I keep coming back to is sort not necessarily about
- 36:18Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers specifically, but doesn't the whole offseason make a
- 36:21Speaker 1: lot more sense if you drop in a proven franchise
- 36:26Speaker 1: quarterback into what they've done? Because I personally feel like
- 36:29Speaker 1: Dave approached this offseason like they still have Tom Brady. Right,
- 36:32Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna sign quarterback's gonna lift all the right,
- 36:34Speaker 1: We're gonna sign Juju. We're gonna sign Mike Kasiki. We're
- 36:38Speaker 1: gonna trade out Damien Harris for James Robinson. We're gonna
- 36:41Speaker 1: bring in some veteran tackles. Like this is what teams
- 36:44Speaker 1: that feel like the quarterback is doing the heavy lifting
- 36:47Speaker 1: are doing. And that's I think where my frustration has
- 36:50Speaker 1: been with their entire offseason is that there's either two schools.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Either you're operating with the quarterback is going to drive
- 36:57Speaker 1: the bus, or you're operating like the supporting castle is
- 37:00Speaker 1: going to drive the bus. And right now they are
- 37:02Speaker 1: building a team that the quarterback needs to drive the bus.
- 37:06Speaker 1: But you don't have a bus driver at quarterback. So
- 37:09Speaker 1: how do you get around that? You know, that report
- 37:13Speaker 1: about Max so much more interesting, right it does? And
- 37:17Speaker 1: I keep I keep having this conversation with people. I'm like,
- 37:20Speaker 1: when I go into the locker room and I talk
- 37:22Speaker 1: to our defense about the opposing team's quarterback, they always
- 37:25Speaker 1: have something to say. His arm, his legs, you know,
- 37:28Speaker 1: he can do both. Like when you look at Mac,
- 37:31Speaker 1: what can you say what challenges you when you're playing Mac? Yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 1: I get a lot of that those questions too, of
- 37:36Speaker 1: like what's the path like with Mac Jones, Like how
- 37:39Speaker 1: are you competitive with him? Just assuming that he looks
- 37:43Speaker 1: like he did his rookie season and that's that's the
- 37:45Speaker 1: best it's going to get. And I look at teams
- 37:49Speaker 1: like San Francisco and like Miami. I'd also throw them
- 37:52Speaker 1: in there too, that are taking what I think is
- 37:56Speaker 1: pretty average quarterback situations and adding tire, killing Jalen Waddle
- 38:01Speaker 1: and Tehron Armstead and making that quarterback look like he's
- 38:04Speaker 1: an MVP. That's why he looks so great at Alabama
- 38:07Speaker 1: because he had great coaching and outstanding pieces around and
- 38:10Speaker 1: I think that he can still do that in the pros.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But you have to have outstanding pieces around him, and
- 38:16Speaker 1: this team doesn't, So if you know, I think that
- 38:19Speaker 1: that's the difference. And I think Philly is a good
- 38:21Speaker 1: example of maybe you're still lukewarm on your quarterback and
- 38:26Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, AJ Brown comes to town
- 38:28Speaker 1: and now now you're you're all set. You're like, oh,
- 38:30Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts is our guy. So it can go both ways.
- 38:33Speaker 1: You can either just drag the quarterback through the playoffs
- 38:37Speaker 1: or you can actually bring out Josh Allen Jalen Hurts
- 38:41Speaker 1: type breakout out of your QB by surrounding him. And
- 38:44Speaker 1: right now this team is is operating like they still
- 38:47Speaker 1: have Tom Brady. Let's jump back to the phones that
- 38:49Speaker 1: we got Eric here in New Jersey and like, just
- 38:52Speaker 1: say he would Eric Skalvina would prove he spells his
- 38:54Speaker 1: name the correct way with Eric with a K. At
- 38:56Speaker 1: least that's how Matt wrote it. Hey, hey, hey, you
- 39:00Speaker 1: here a little little echoe, but we got you. Oh
- 39:05Speaker 1: let mean you guys show me now better now? Okay, um, yeah,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I just I want to talk about this guy's kind
- 39:12Speaker 1: of stay on mac here um. And like I said,
- 39:14Speaker 1: you guys are touching on twenty twenty, twenty twenty one. Yep, yeah,
- 39:20Speaker 1: you guys are touching on twenty twenty one. I was
- 39:22Speaker 1: just trying to I was trying to figure out at
- 39:25Speaker 1: what point I don't know, I can't even yeah, okay, yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 1: I was trying to. I was trying to figure out,
- 39:32Speaker 1: at what point, at what game do you see Mac? Like,
- 39:35Speaker 1: what's what's the Hallmark game? From Mac that you've seen
- 39:37Speaker 1: from these last two years. Again, I mean you could
- 39:40Speaker 1: throw in all the all the extra curriculums from last season.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Then again, you I look back at that game on
- 39:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, and you look at the Bills game
- 39:46Speaker 1: where you only had Mac broke three times in inclement weather.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And again you're not saying you're gonna get that type
- 39:51Speaker 1: of of of you know when, but again you know
- 39:54Speaker 1: there's too much air under his throws. And again, at
- 39:56Speaker 1: what point and two seasons have you seen the game
- 40:00Speaker 1: my hallmark game like this game from Mac where you
- 40:02Speaker 1: stay here and say, all right, you can win behind him.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Because again, if you give any other guy, I mean
- 40:07Speaker 1: most guys, if you can give them all the tools,
- 40:08Speaker 1: all the weapons, yeah, I'm sure they can get you
- 40:11Speaker 1: into the playoffs. But what is it about Mac that
- 40:13Speaker 1: you've seen in these last years, Because I can't figure
- 40:15Speaker 1: it out now, be obviously the talent. I see too
- 40:19Speaker 1: much air under the throws, like Paul would say, and
- 40:21Speaker 1: I don't. There's not one game he had. He had
- 40:24Speaker 1: one game last year at the Minnesota game where he
- 40:26Speaker 1: could have took it over in the fourth quarter. One
- 40:29Speaker 1: still hasn't Still hasn't we beat the Texans on the
- 40:31Speaker 1: fourth quarter comeback? I mean, so, what is it that
- 40:33Speaker 1: you guys see and what's the hallmark game that you
- 40:36Speaker 1: take from Mac that you can stay here and say
- 40:38Speaker 1: what is it that we can we have something here
- 40:40Speaker 1: we can compete? Yeah, thanks eric Um, But I just
- 40:45Speaker 1: doesn't matter no, like like that, like does it really
- 40:48Speaker 1: matter at the end of the day now, because I
- 40:51Speaker 1: think the one game that I would point to that
- 40:53Speaker 1: I thought Mac really made made himself look like a
- 40:57Speaker 1: viable quarterback was Cleveland twenty one when he through the
- 41:00Speaker 1: seem to Born where I had some pace on. Yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 1: that was I think his best game as a pro.
- 41:07Speaker 1: But what the whole point that I was making before
- 41:11Speaker 1: about look at the Niners like Jimmy G and Brock Purty, like,
- 41:15Speaker 1: are you gonna sit here and tell me that Jimmy
- 41:17Speaker 1: G has got anything special going on about him as
- 41:21Speaker 1: a signature, right or a moment or even just like
- 41:24Speaker 1: a trait that you're like, oh wow, Like that's that
- 41:27Speaker 1: makes Jimmy G stand out. And they dragged his butt
- 41:29Speaker 1: all the way to a super Bowl and they probably
- 41:31Speaker 1: should have won the super Bowl that they got to.
- 41:34Speaker 1: So again, there's two different ways to do it. It
- 41:38Speaker 1: doesn't have to be the quarterback being Tom Brady and
- 41:42Speaker 1: carrying the team with you. It doesn't. You know, we've
- 41:46Speaker 1: seen it work in other ways where the quarterback is
- 41:49Speaker 1: a little bit lesser than and isn't necessarily the one
- 41:52Speaker 1: driving the bus. So the whole what have you seen
- 41:56Speaker 1: from Mac? I've seen that Mac can be a service
- 42:00Speaker 1: b NFL quarterback when the situation and environment allows him
- 42:03Speaker 1: to be. And that can be good enough if you're
- 42:07Speaker 1: built up other in other places on the roster. Yeah,
- 42:10Speaker 1: I would just I would just and I hate to
- 42:12Speaker 1: compare people to Tom Brady because it's just it's Tom Brady.
- 42:14Speaker 1: But you know, just to him being in the second year,
- 42:16Speaker 1: he sat his whole first year, and his second year
- 42:19Speaker 1: you saw an overtime win against you know, against the Chargers.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I mean you just, all of a sudden you started
- 42:24Speaker 1: to see him growing into what he would eventually becoming. Now,
- 42:27Speaker 1: this is the greatest player of all time. It's you know,
- 42:30Speaker 1: it's not apples to apples. But at the same time,
- 42:32Speaker 1: I understand what the fans want. They want to say,
- 42:34Speaker 1: where can I look, We've had this guy for two
- 42:36Speaker 1: years now, what what can I point to and say,
- 42:39Speaker 1: all right, if we can expand upon that, if we
- 42:41Speaker 1: can feature that, if we can put players around him
- 42:43Speaker 1: that can help that, then maybe we're on the correct trajectory.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And so from that respect, I kind of get it,
- 42:49Speaker 1: you know, I get what people are looking for, just
- 42:51Speaker 1: a glimmer of hope, a glimmer of you know, this
- 42:53Speaker 1: is this is what he can do. And I mean
- 42:55Speaker 1: I go back to what kind of Tamara brought up with,
- 42:57Speaker 1: you know, what made him good in college, you know,
- 42:59Speaker 1: those things and like you said, he had he had
- 43:02Speaker 1: the piece and and and and that it highlighted his
- 43:06Speaker 1: smarts and his you know, I think his accuracy has
- 43:08Speaker 1: been pretty good, um, you know, as one of his strengths.
- 43:11Speaker 1: So it's it's just hard because those things. You've got
- 43:15Speaker 1: a great processor, you know, like it doesn't always translate.
- 43:18Speaker 1: It's not always like oh there it is so hopefully
- 43:21Speaker 1: with Bill O'Brien, and I think that's why, unfortunately you
- 43:25Speaker 1: have nothing else to really trumpet right now. That's what
- 43:27Speaker 1: you have to point to and you say, all right, well,
- 43:29Speaker 1: now Bill O'Brien's gonna give Mack the answers to the
- 43:31Speaker 1: test and he's going to be able to execute those
- 43:34Speaker 1: with his ability to process and understand the game. That's
- 43:38Speaker 1: what the hope is. But you know, to Evans point,
- 43:41Speaker 1: does it really matter if it's yeah, he's getting out
- 43:44Speaker 1: the ball on time and a correctly run route to
- 43:45Speaker 1: Juju Smith Schuster, is that going to make enough difference
- 43:48Speaker 1: against teams like Buffalo, against teams like Cincinnati, against teams
- 43:51Speaker 1: like Kansas City, all the elite teams of the AFC. Eventually,
- 43:55Speaker 1: you just you gotta put an end to a problem
- 43:58Speaker 1: that's going on a half decade now of so US
- 44:03Speaker 1: looking at their offense on paper in August and saying, Nope,
- 44:09Speaker 1: don't have enough, right, they don't have enough firepower, They're
- 44:12Speaker 1: not gonna hang. And this goes back to Tom Brady's
- 44:15Speaker 1: last year, and I would say that there was even
- 44:19Speaker 1: inklings of it in eighteen. And I think that Brady
- 44:22Speaker 1: and Gronk and Edelman turned back the clock one more
- 44:25Speaker 1: time in the playoff run in eighteen, especially in Kansas City.
- 44:29Speaker 1: But that team in eighteen had issues on offense throughout
- 44:33Speaker 1: the regular season to the point where Josh Gordon all
- 44:36Speaker 1: of a sudden became this viable asset for them. Because
- 44:39Speaker 1: that's what they were searching for, was something else, because
- 44:42Speaker 1: Gronk was you know, battered and starting to slow down
- 44:45Speaker 1: a little bit, and and Edelman was to Edelman, but
- 44:47Speaker 1: they really didn't have anything else, and they had to
- 44:50Speaker 1: make the move for Josh Gordon. And so this is
- 44:53Speaker 1: eighteen I would say it started. Nineteen was when it
- 44:56Speaker 1: was really bad, and it's been kind of really bad
- 44:59Speaker 1: since then. At some point, you got to put the
- 45:01Speaker 1: end end to this rut. Yeah, I think like in
- 45:03Speaker 1: order to get what mister Kraft said he wanted, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 1: at the owner's meetings, and that's getting to the playoffs,
- 45:08Speaker 1: Like this year, you have two choices. You either trade
- 45:12Speaker 1: Mac and you get this generational veteran quarterback that's going
- 45:15Speaker 1: to get you there right now, or you go out
- 45:17Speaker 1: and spend some money to get those outstanding pieces for
- 45:20Speaker 1: Mac to be great, because at this point, like with
- 45:24Speaker 1: what where the roster stands right now, Like I'm just
- 45:27Speaker 1: not confident enough in his traits and this roster to
- 45:31Speaker 1: get them where mister Kraft wants them to be. That's
- 45:33Speaker 1: why I feel a little bit like maybe there was
- 45:36Speaker 1: some substance to these Mac rumors, but now they have
- 45:38Speaker 1: to backtrack because it didn't work out and you can't
- 45:42Speaker 1: you can't Mac bring Mac back after this is all confirmed,
- 45:45Speaker 1: Like you have to backtrack on it. Yeah, and I
- 45:47Speaker 1: think I mean and to the point of it's silly
- 45:49Speaker 1: season with the draft, it's also the time when deals
- 45:52Speaker 1: happen and things happen, and you know seven and Randy Moss,
- 45:54Speaker 1: like this is when dominos need to fall. You know,
- 45:56Speaker 1: you've heard all these guys of you knows Hopkins gonna
- 45:59Speaker 1: get released? Is is Odell's price going to come down?
- 46:01Speaker 1: All those different things. It's all going to happen in
- 46:03Speaker 1: the next you know, a few weeks and there who knows,
- 46:05Speaker 1: there could be some splashing moves still coming for this
- 46:07Speaker 1: team that maybe changes where we're sitting right now. But
- 46:11Speaker 1: I also don't like the reports that come out like
- 46:13Speaker 1: this because teams talk to other teams about a laundry
- 46:20Speaker 1: list of players, and those conversations can range from a
- 46:24Speaker 1: deal getting done to is Mac Jones available? Nope, Okay,
- 46:29Speaker 1: let's move on to the next guy, right, Like, so
- 46:32Speaker 1: they talked to teams about Mac Jones or were shopping
- 46:34Speaker 1: Mac Jones. That is such a loose term that there's
- 46:38Speaker 1: so much nuance and so much degrees in there of Okay,
- 46:43Speaker 1: was Bill calling people and saying, hey, Max available, what
- 46:47Speaker 1: would you what would you offer? Or was you know,
- 46:50Speaker 1: they saying how do you guys feel about Mac right now?
- 46:52Speaker 1: And maybe Bill was a little bit lukewarm on the phone,
- 46:55Speaker 1: like he's been with us, But it wasn't like we're
- 46:58Speaker 1: dangling him out there for you to come and grab them. Yeah,
- 47:01Speaker 1: And to that point, I always feel like when there's oh,
- 47:03Speaker 1: the Patriots are interested in this guy, the Patriots are like,
- 47:05Speaker 1: there's always an element of due diligence that any team
- 47:08Speaker 1: should be doing. Previously, that's the Patriots being interested in
- 47:13Speaker 1: a guy was like sound the red alert, Like all right, oh,
- 47:17Speaker 1: the Patriots might get this guy's you know, teams might
- 47:19Speaker 1: scramble that we're chasing the team back then. But I
- 47:23Speaker 1: think everything is with a grain of salt here over
- 47:24Speaker 1: these last few weeks. I like that you said that, Mike,
- 47:27Speaker 1: with the grain of salt, because it's like, even if
- 47:29Speaker 1: Bill did say Mac is our guy, we've seen coaches
- 47:32Speaker 1: say so and so is all right, it's like the Jets,
- 47:35Speaker 1: Sam Donald's our guy. Two seconds later, Jack Molson is
- 47:38Speaker 1: our guy two seconds It's just like you've seen coaches
- 47:42Speaker 1: say this is our guy, We're not interested in Deshaun Watson,
- 47:45Speaker 1: we're not interested in this person that person and then
- 47:48Speaker 1: turns out there. So you have to take out You
- 47:50Speaker 1: have to take everything. You've to take the luke warm
- 47:52Speaker 1: with a grain of salt, and you also have to
- 47:54Speaker 1: take the people who are claiming this person is our
- 47:56Speaker 1: guy with a grain of salt, because at the end
- 47:57Speaker 1: of the day they still could change their mind. Let's
- 48:00Speaker 1: jump back to the phones and head down to Georgia
- 48:02Speaker 1: where we got Jody. Hey, Jody, hows it going. Hey,
- 48:05Speaker 1: doing good, guys, How y'all doing good? Thanks for calling in. Hey, Um,
- 48:08Speaker 1: I just kind of want to take it back to
- 48:09Speaker 1: the draft a little bit. Sure. I just had a question.
- 48:13Speaker 1: We all know how bad Bill missed in twenty nineteen
- 48:15Speaker 1: with nikkil do we do you guys think like there's
- 48:19Speaker 1: this pressure on Bill, like I can't miss if I
- 48:22Speaker 1: take a receiver. He's like, I'm I'm big on him
- 48:24Speaker 1: to day or Jason. I'm good with either of those guys,
- 48:28Speaker 1: but I feel like he's gonna go more towards like
- 48:30Speaker 1: jackle or defense take the safe thick because like if
- 48:34Speaker 1: he misses big in the first round again, you know,
- 48:36Speaker 1: like he's kind of staying there on one leg. Yeah,
- 48:39Speaker 1: I mean, I think they're putting in the work on
- 48:41Speaker 1: safe Flowers. It seems I just feel like that's a
- 48:44Speaker 1: and I totally hear what the caller is saying, but
- 48:47Speaker 1: I do kind of feel like that's a little bit
- 48:49Speaker 1: of a loser's mindset, Like how do you You can't
- 48:51Speaker 1: let past mistakes dictate the right decision in the future.
- 48:55Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that Zay just because I love him,
- 48:58Speaker 1: is the only option for them in the draft, but
- 49:00Speaker 1: I think allowing the twenty nineteen draft to follow you
- 49:05Speaker 1: years later to the point where you're not willing to
- 49:07Speaker 1: take a receiver early because you missed four years ago,
- 49:11Speaker 1: I just don't know if that's really great process. If
- 49:14Speaker 1: you're I mean, maybe maybe you could say, hey, let's
- 49:16Speaker 1: not draft a big receiver who's a blocker, you know, like, like,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I mean, let's not I mean, there's no there's no
- 49:24Speaker 1: real comparison between the kind of player that say Flowers
- 49:26Speaker 1: and Nickilly Harry are in any way. And I kind
- 49:29Speaker 1: of feel the same way about Tae Kwon, even though
- 49:31Speaker 1: I think the jury's definitely still out on that pick.
- 49:34Speaker 1: He was definitely a departure from Nikkil, Harry, Chad Jackson,
- 49:38Speaker 1: Aaron Dobson as well. I mean he's one hundred and
- 49:41Speaker 1: eighty pounds, sucking wet and ran a four two, So
- 49:43Speaker 1: he's he's nothing like those guys. So I think that
- 49:45Speaker 1: they are recognizing a little bit that they have to
- 49:48Speaker 1: depart from that. Well, we're talking to kill Harry, and
- 49:51Speaker 1: of course you know what that means. Eldred's calling in, Hey, Eldred,
- 49:53Speaker 1: what's going on? Hey? Good, Hi, thanks for calling in. Hi. Yes, Fred,
- 50:01Speaker 1: they dare you no no friends, no, no, they're at
- 50:04Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame vote. So it's uh, it's just
- 50:07Speaker 1: doucing the kids. The kids sounds wrong, like like iverybody
- 50:15Speaker 1: keep holding Bill, which I'm holding Bill, but not acknowledge.
- 50:19Speaker 1: And last season but Fred keeps saying he would you
- 50:23Speaker 1: talk to the team? Said he started bag but I
- 50:25Speaker 1: don't think he did it. Do y'all think? So what
- 50:28Speaker 1: did need? Did he apologized, like apologize to the team
- 50:30Speaker 1: or admit fause Flagiah but box the box? Yeah, that's
- 50:36Speaker 1: a great question. Becau didn't Uh mc jones, didn't you
- 50:42Speaker 1: know then I'm sorry or whatever. Yeah, I mean, can
- 50:46Speaker 1: you just say sorry it's that hard? It's good that hard? Well?
- 50:51Speaker 1: And I mean, and he said, if it doesn't work,
- 50:53Speaker 1: blame me. So you know, I think everybody kind of
- 50:56Speaker 1: would like that that Hey just acknowledging that man didn't work,
- 51:00Speaker 1: you know, and even I think when you heard from
- 51:01Speaker 1: Robert like it's like we did. We had some offensive
- 51:04Speaker 1: changes that in my opinion, didn't work last year. You know,
- 51:07Speaker 1: It's like I think everyone else kind of like just
- 51:09Speaker 1: acknowledges it as fact. But to your point, Aldred, just
- 51:13Speaker 1: the team need to reset right now? Do they need
- 51:15Speaker 1: to like have maybe a big move or I don't
- 51:17Speaker 1: know if it's a you know some kind of comes
- 51:19Speaker 1: back to Bill moment like I feel like you're onto something. Yeah,
- 51:24Speaker 1: one more thing, don't let you go at two more things? Uh?
- 51:27Speaker 1: I think Bill won the first three Super Bowl of
- 51:30Speaker 1: a Bill pars There boys. So this draft and everything
- 51:33Speaker 1: the team, he lined it up. That's why he came
- 51:35Speaker 1: back from the Jets to New England because you thought
- 51:36Speaker 1: the talent only when he ed was Brady and Seymour.
- 51:42Speaker 1: But maybe it's couple don't fix too. But those two
- 51:44Speaker 1: were domain two. But email yesterday, I don't know who
- 51:50Speaker 1: a heel would I did ask for a Patterson because
- 51:54Speaker 1: back then he was a wide receiver. Chicago used him.
- 51:57Speaker 1: It again it was threw them up. Yeah, and one
- 51:59Speaker 1: more thime. Yeah. I also I'll put a band for
- 52:04Speaker 1: Hopkins when he first came out. Also a band for
- 52:07Speaker 1: will William h Jayson William and I Blake and some
- 52:13Speaker 1: more people. But don't hold my feet and God, like
- 52:16Speaker 1: I said, I mean what I didn't say. As got
- 52:20Speaker 1: the receipts, Yeah, we got he's he's will and all right,
- 52:23Speaker 1: thank you, thanks Eldred Well whoever called in and try
- 52:25Speaker 1: to call Eldred out, you know you better. Yeah, we
- 52:27Speaker 1: had an email that I mentioned Aldred's missus and the draft,
- 52:31Speaker 1: which we we've all had our plenty in that category.
- 52:35Speaker 1: What's your what misster you most proud of? Evan? Like,
- 52:37Speaker 1: what's what's a guy that that that you were you know,
- 52:41Speaker 1: high on or not high on that ended up being good.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I'll just give you one quick one was I I
- 52:45Speaker 1: didn't want to draft Dante high Tower because we had
- 52:47Speaker 1: Brandon Spikes. That was me. That was me, Hi, it's me,
- 52:53Speaker 1: that's the problem there. I don't know. I mean there's
- 52:55Speaker 1: a million, uh there. There's definitely guys that I was
- 52:59Speaker 1: super high on the draft, and you know, for example,
- 53:02Speaker 1: like Calvin Ridley's brother, Riley Ridley. Uh, I just thought
- 53:06Speaker 1: he was Calvin Ridley, right, Like I was like, oh,
- 53:08Speaker 1: you know, he's he's a Ridley and he looks decent
- 53:10Speaker 1: on film and just I don't even think he's on
- 53:13Speaker 1: an NFL roster anymore, just not an NFL player. So
- 53:16Speaker 1: that one was bad, you know, there was there's a
- 53:18Speaker 1: few of those, you know, I think a lot of
- 53:19Speaker 1: the time with the draft, you'd you see guys that
- 53:23Speaker 1: are dominant at the college level. And I think a
- 53:25Speaker 1: big question that you have to ask, and I think
- 53:27Speaker 1: that they probably do this in a much more detailed
- 53:30Speaker 1: manner than I do, is why, like why didn't nikkil
- 53:34Speaker 1: Harry work out? Like? What were the real core things?
- 53:38Speaker 1: Not necessarily you know what we all think, but what
- 53:42Speaker 1: were the real core things that led to that pick
- 53:45Speaker 1: not working out? And and then you try to course correct,
- 53:47Speaker 1: you know, as best as you can. So I think
- 53:50Speaker 1: with nikkiel that that's a that's got to be a
- 53:53Speaker 1: learning process, right, I mean, how much of an indictment
- 53:55Speaker 1: is it too. And we all watched what these guys
- 53:58Speaker 1: did for the Patriots, but both Isaiah went in the
- 54:00Speaker 1: Kill Harry aren't even on teams anymore. I mean, these
- 54:01Speaker 1: guys were first round picks a couple of years ago,
- 54:03Speaker 1: and even if you didn't think to kill Harry was
- 54:05Speaker 1: a first round pick, you probably at least thought, hey,
- 54:07Speaker 1: he's got size, you know, you could do something with him.
- 54:10Speaker 1: I's just it's striking to me that those guys are,
- 54:14Speaker 1: especially with when like how bad teams need tackles right now.
- 54:17Speaker 1: I'm sure when will sign after the draft, I think
- 54:19Speaker 1: that that happens a lot, see who we get and
- 54:22Speaker 1: then then we'll bring him in. But but even still
- 54:24Speaker 1: like he was a first round pick, like you know,
- 54:27Speaker 1: it's just and showed ability like yeah, Isaiah when it
- 54:30Speaker 1: was better a better player than to Kiel for the Patriots, right,
- 54:34Speaker 1: so he could hurt a lot the same thing, you know,
- 54:36Speaker 1: couldn't couldn't really find that momentum. I think another point
- 54:40Speaker 1: I just wanted to bring up too about this is
- 54:41Speaker 1: like imagine if like you go to a college business
- 54:44Speaker 1: class and or you know, an economics class, and you're like,
- 54:47Speaker 1: this guy's killing it in my economics class. All right, well,
- 54:49Speaker 1: how is he going to be when he comes in
- 54:50Speaker 1: worse for me at you know, at an accounty for
- 54:52Speaker 1: you know, like it's so hard to project just people
- 54:55Speaker 1: in general going from being students to like, this is
- 54:58Speaker 1: a professional environ. This is a job, especially here where
- 55:02Speaker 1: it seems even more intense, and everybody kind of says, like,
- 55:04Speaker 1: you know, you are just on your toes every minute
- 55:06Speaker 1: that you're inside this building. But I think that that's
- 55:09Speaker 1: that's just a natural element too outside of football. It's
- 55:11Speaker 1: just some people they get into a professional environment, they
- 55:14Speaker 1: gotta understand how to budget their time and their money
- 55:16Speaker 1: and their lives and their personal lives and you know
- 55:19Speaker 1: what they're doing. It's I think it's a challenge that
- 55:21Speaker 1: you know, it's easy to talk about football and well
- 55:23Speaker 1: he just couldn't play, like but I think there are
- 55:25Speaker 1: other things too that you know, you can pay. That's
- 55:27Speaker 1: that's the hardest part for us, is that we don't
- 55:30Speaker 1: really know these guys right, and we don't really have
- 55:33Speaker 1: the resources to to learn them inside and out like
- 55:36Speaker 1: NFL teams do. So for me, I'm really just going
- 55:40Speaker 1: off of what I see on the field. For the
- 55:42Speaker 1: most part. Like sure, I talked to a guy for
- 55:44Speaker 1: ten minutes at the Combine or at the Shrine Bowl
- 55:46Speaker 1: or something like that, but you're really just going off
- 55:48Speaker 1: of feel about the player on the field, and they're
- 55:52Speaker 1: things like with with you know, Nikkila, you know, they
- 55:54Speaker 1: hear about about you know, the work ethic and maybe
- 55:57Speaker 1: not being destined to be great. I just doesn't have
- 56:01Speaker 1: that drive to to want to get there. Like we
- 56:03Speaker 1: would never have known that, you know, going into the draft.
- 56:06Speaker 1: So that's why even like it's it's superficial, but even
- 56:09Speaker 1: being at the combine, I just like that element of it.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I just like getting to see these guys. What are
- 56:14Speaker 1: they like? I mean, some guys were so nervous up there.
- 56:16Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember which. I think it was one
- 56:18Speaker 1: of the Oregon offensive linemen. Um, yeah, he was nervous though,
- 56:22Speaker 1: because English wasn't his first Oh really, all right, then
- 56:24Speaker 1: I take it back, I take it back. Idn't know that,
- 56:26Speaker 1: and I was like, oh my gosh, he seems like
- 56:29Speaker 1: he's about to like combust right now. He was, he was,
- 56:31Speaker 1: so I'm glad I didn't remember his name so I
- 56:33Speaker 1: don't have to get in trouble for it. But let's
- 56:36Speaker 1: let's jump over here now to Todd in North Carolina. Hey, Todd,
- 56:40Speaker 1: So I got just two quick points. The first one is, uh,
- 56:43Speaker 1: I really agree with Fred's idea of somebody being tested
- 56:46Speaker 1: this year and we'll come out and if they come
- 56:48Speaker 1: out of this one, it'll be really something they've proven.
- 56:50Speaker 1: I don't think it's our quarterback and it's a coach.
- 56:53Speaker 1: That's the first part. And the second part, the simple part,
- 56:57Speaker 1: is actually something dudes hit on and and so did
- 57:00Speaker 1: a couple other people there. Brady second year was really good,
- 57:03Speaker 1: but we forget just the cast Brady had around him
- 57:06Speaker 1: in order for somebody to grow and get into the league.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Because you know, Brady was great, but he was able
- 57:11Speaker 1: to grow with such talent around him, and you cannot
- 57:14Speaker 1: say that that was not a factor in his greatness
- 57:17Speaker 1: that offensively, Like, I mean, you know, I think for
- 57:22Speaker 1: the it's such a different time period. That's what he
- 57:26Speaker 1: needed around him then, and what Macne's around him now
- 57:29Speaker 1: are not comparable. I just uh, I was watching some
- 57:35Speaker 1: Dion Branch highlights the other day because it's like, you know,
- 57:39Speaker 1: I wanted to go back and be like, all right, well,
- 57:41Speaker 1: that was the receiver that they hit on, right, they
- 57:42Speaker 1: dropped him in the second round and they hit on
- 57:45Speaker 1: the player. And it was too funny because you're watching
- 57:47Speaker 1: this this speedy underside receiver and they're in these heavy
- 57:53Speaker 1: personnel groupings under center, like twelve twenty one personnel groupings,
- 57:58Speaker 1: and he's split out why And you're like, if you
- 58:00Speaker 1: were playing nowadays, you would be in the slot. You'd
- 58:03Speaker 1: be you know, in an eleven personnel grouping, and you'd
- 58:06Speaker 1: be running Edelman routes right like, you wouldn't be running
- 58:10Speaker 1: these vertical post routes out of heavy packages. And Brady
- 58:15Speaker 1: has taken these seven and nine step drops and throwing
- 58:17Speaker 1: the ball deep. So it was just such a different
- 58:20Speaker 1: game back then that I think back then a day
- 58:23Speaker 1: they had enough on offense. But if you had that
- 58:26Speaker 1: offense today like that, it's probably worse than this. Yeah,
- 58:29Speaker 1: we're talking about what we're talking about right now. Yeah.
- 58:31Speaker 1: I do think they had I mean, the defense. You
- 58:33Speaker 1: have to you have to acknowledge that they had great
- 58:35Speaker 1: pieces and I mean and and to push back on
- 58:38Speaker 1: the earlier caller who said, like he did it on
- 58:40Speaker 1: parcels like the free agency class that they signed that
- 58:43Speaker 1: year was a huge impact on that team. So I
- 58:45Speaker 1: mean I get what I get like and I said
- 58:48Speaker 1: earlier with Parcels like he certainly planned some seeds with
- 58:50Speaker 1: that team with malloy and Law and Bruski and mcguinnis.
- 58:54Speaker 1: But you know the Fifers, the Vaybels, you know, the
- 58:57Speaker 1: Otis Smiths, like those guys that they brought in and
- 59:00Speaker 1: coached up and then made them. So I always forget
- 59:03Speaker 1: where they were seeing more Matt like the same draft
- 59:05Speaker 1: class right so that I mean, so you're rookie classes.
- 59:10Speaker 1: I mean compares your left tackle and your best defensive
- 59:12Speaker 1: right out of the gate too, So I mean imagine,
- 59:14Speaker 1: I mean it's it's not totally different than when we're
- 59:16Speaker 1: talking about right now, where it's like, imagine if they
- 59:19Speaker 1: got two impact starters, I mean long term impact starter.
- 59:23Speaker 1: Richard Seymour is a Hall of Fame player right now.
- 59:26Speaker 1: I mean, these are the kind of things I think
- 59:28Speaker 1: that this team needs. And I don't want to go
- 59:29Speaker 1: as far as you know, with the earlier callers said
- 59:32Speaker 1: about is he you know coaching? You know, does he
- 59:34Speaker 1: absolutely feeling the pressure to hit on this? I don't
- 59:36Speaker 1: think so, but I feel the pressure of this needs
- 59:40Speaker 1: to be a good draft, and I mean it's you know,
- 59:42Speaker 1: when you look at twenty twenty two Straft, I just
- 59:44Speaker 1: I feel like there's so much uncertainty there. I feel
- 59:46Speaker 1: so much uncertainty about last year's draft class. I could
- 59:49Speaker 1: go either way on Thornton Strong, Harris, Cole Strange. I mean,
- 59:53Speaker 1: I think cole Strange probably his floor is pretty decent.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I think he's gonna be probably the tackle here for
- 59:58Speaker 1: the next three seasons. Sorry, Guard, you know, but I
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: don't know about anybody else. I really don't. I don't
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: even know what Zappy like. How much do you really
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: feel confident about that class yet? Whereas you know, even
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: and you could even go to twenty twenty one with
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Parma goat hurt last year, we wanted more out of him,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: act didn't really you know, a lot of issues there.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: But you know, Romandres is kind of the key piece
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: that you feel like you hit on. But I'll continue
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: to say, I think the draft is the only way
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: out of this thing. I think Ramandre and then Marcus
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Jones are like my two that from the past two years.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: You got to bring up Mars. Yeah, Marcus Jones, I
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: feel like he can end up being a guy that's
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: going to be here for a while, just because of
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: his versatility and his ability to you know, help special teams,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: especially that's been kind of struggling, especially with last season.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I think I think, to your pointsmor too, that he's
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the kind of guy I don't want to say you
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: build a team around, but he's the kind of guy
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: that is a marketable marquee kind of player. Where you
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: say the Patriots have a three guy who plays all
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: three ways, you know, that kind of thing, and is
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: able to make an impact in all three areas. I
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: think that could be. He could be something special and
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: something that you know that this team needs. When we
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: talk about it's not just about trying to win, it's
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: also trying to get fans to get excited to come
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: to watch training camp, you know, to put butts in
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: the seats to at least come see these guys play.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: All Right, Hey, they might not They're probably not going
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: to win the Super Bowl, but I gotta get out
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: to camp this year because they have this generational kind
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: of player that's just so special and I'm excited to
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: go to training camp just to watch Marcus Jones return punts.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: You know, like that kind of thing. I think they
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: need more guys like that, marketable guys. That's the biggest
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: thing to me is that I feel like there were
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: in twenty twenty. The training camp was such a weird
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: environment to begin with, so I don't even know if
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: it counts, but I think there were moment. There were
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: moments early on from Kyle Dugger in twenty twenty training
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: camp or you're like, Okay, this guy, this guy's different,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: like he moves differently. You know this is this is
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: gonna be good. But I haven't felt like, you know,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: hearing Bill talk about um, you know, guys like Richard
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Seymour or you know the mccordy ground cow Ski class
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: where they got the training camp and like two days
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: into training camp they're just like laughing at how good
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Richard Seymour is. Like when when's the last time that
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: you can say that about a Patriots draft pick that
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: you got to training camp and on day one a camp,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: the media, the coaches, everybody is just like, holy crap,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Like this guy is just an unbelievable football player. And
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: when you pick at fourteen, like you should be able
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: to come out with a guy that we're all saying
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: in mini camp like wait until you guys see Jackson
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Smith and Jigbo, like this is gonna be fun. I
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: just I really can't think of one in my time
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: covering the team that they've had one of those guys
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: where it's just like instantly like yes, like that's that's
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: gonna be a great pick. I mean, and I think
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: to your point of it, I mean, you're talking about
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: guys in the top half of the draft where they
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: haven't picked a lot, and so you're saying Seymour had that.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: I would even say Mayo kind of had it. Like
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I don't know it's to the same extent, but I
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: think everybody kind of acknowledge your right out of the gate,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: like they got a Google, they got a good linebacker,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Uh you know, a Mac, I mean Mac for you know,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: all those kind of warts that we have right now.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: I think, you know, early on, it seemed like, hey,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: this he can play in this league. He doesn't he
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: didn't look rattled. You know, he came in and he
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: as a quarterback. And I always compared just to you
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: know what I saw the most of which was Jared
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Stidham the year before, and it was like, oh, boy,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: like you know, the first guy wasn't there. It's getting
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: ugly quick and Mac I was just I was remarkable
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: to me right out of the gate, and like whatever
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: that first mini camp was where it's like there's chaos
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: going around him, but he's still able to kind of
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: hang in there and get the ball out. I just
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: feel like when you hear about like you hear about
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: these guys like seymore Is, you know, going back aways,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: but even just in other camps around the league, when
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: you hear the buzz starting about you know, Sas Gardner
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: in New York and he's just out there just putting
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: clamps on everybody that goes up against him or you
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: know whoever. And I just I feel like that has
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: not happened. Like, yeah, we've seen flashes, Like I think
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Taekwon flashed at times in camp last year. He had
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: his moments, but it wasn't like a dominant every single day.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: This guy is a factor. I feel like Zay Flowers
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: is like a guy that could do that just because
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: like like for example, when he finally practiced at the
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Shrine Bowl, I feel like the sidelines were like buzzing,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: like just all about him. I feel like he's could
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: be that guy if he's picked at fourteen, that's what
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: they need. Let's let's just grab Melvin here before we
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: break for lunch. Hey Melvin, thanks for holding on. I
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: was going on, I would just powering through here without
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: our with our feelers leaders. I guess you. I guess
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: um quick point that I was gonna talk. I guess
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: you are just kind of spoke on a little bit.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: But I think overall, like fans a disrate for like
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: young players, right, yeah, So they're just you know, constantly
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: looking for let's say, for examp parties him Stevens for example.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: You like them and and the Myers of the world,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: and I'll speople like that, like we like them. They
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: they're good players and every got that. But it comes
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: to point that we have to realize, I guess those
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: at those particular players like really gonna help us go
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: to the next level. So it's it's a tough position
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: for I guess the coaches to be in because you
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: gotta make that decision because players are just like he
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: just talked about, just extremely desperate, and we don't want
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: to let these players go because they're good players. They
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: are good players, but the money gets involved and everything
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: like that factors into it. So even somebody like Stevenson
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: we just drafted to running back, um, you know recently.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: So even though he is a good player and can
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: do all these things for us, is that the right decision?
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Do we need to pay the money? Etter? And it's
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: just gonna be as it's a tough position because I
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: feel like when his contract is up, for example, the
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: fans are gonna just reacted the same way. I think
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: a lot of people are gonna be wanting to keep them.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: But where are we going, you know, long term? And
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: just a lot of players like that, the Duggers, the
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: ouchase like do we need to sign these people? Are
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: they good forward the team? Are we good for us
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: going forward? Or do we need to try to you know,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: let him go and try to average might not be
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: good enough. We need to be looking for star, somebody
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: to be at a round And those are the ones
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: we need to be signing, and some of the ones
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: not really the average player always average, but players not willing.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Players need to be on another level for us to
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: go to the nickt love yea. So those are the
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: players we need to be going after. Yeah, I think
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: that that speaks to the old, the old, you know,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Dante high Tower being the last first round pick to
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: get a second contract with the Patriots. Dante high Tower,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: he just retired from the league like as ten years ago,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: you know, And I look at Kyle Dugger. I think
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger is a guy that that could be a
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: second contract guy. It's going to be that caveat that
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: he was a second round pick and not a first
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: round pick. But as besides the point, but I think
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: that Kyle Dugger has that star potential in him. Remandre
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: is a running back. So that's that gets into the
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: whole value thing and second contracts and all that kind
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: of stuff. But this is what we're talking about, you know,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Alex and I always talk about Tuesday players, like who's
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Tamara's point, right, Like who's going in and the Tuesday
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: meeting when they're playing the Patriots and he'll put the
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: offense up on the board for the coaching staff who
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: we circling, Like who's the guy that you absolutely have
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: to stop? And I think a lot of these coaching
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: staffs are saying nobody exactly, like you know, we're not
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: just do what we do. Yeah, And I think defensively, Judean,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: I think Dougger, I think Barmore and j When it's
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: a passing situation, you got to know where those guys
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: are and know how they rush. But offensively that cupboard
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: is is bare. And I don't think Juju Smith Shuster
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: is changing that as much as I like him as
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: a player. Yeah, yeah, it's I think, and we'll go
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: to break here. It's just it's a great point by
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Melvin that I've brought up before. It's it's you know,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: for the fans, it's continuity. It's like who's our team,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: who's our core? Like what's our personality? And I feel
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: like we talk about the early two thousand Patriots, like
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: you going into every game, You're like, we got Willie McGinnis,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: we got Teddy Bruski, Tylow, we got Lloyd Malloyd. These
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: guys have been here for six, seven, eight years up right,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: They're they're just part of the fabric of the team.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: And you know, I think right now they were at
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: a point where there isn't really any of those guys,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: and I think this year I was kind of and
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I'm still kind of waiting to see, is Kyle Ducker
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: that guy now's the time. Are we going to let
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: him get to free agency next year? Now? And to
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: make the point in the opposite end, you got your
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Bill Peppers, you got Josh Bloods. I mean like it
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: just seems like they continue. We did we did a
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: safeties preview for the draft, as Brian Branch, I mean,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: there are so many of these guys available, you know,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: it's I would just hate to do that there. Yeah, no,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: I hear your point. And because that's a guy that
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: you identified that was a little bit off the beaten
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: path being from Leonora Ryan and you're right about him
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: that his his athleticism and his skill translated to the
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: league and he's still got some warts in his game,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Like I don't think that he's perfect yet, but the
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: playmaking is all all the way there, you know. I
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: mean four defensive touchdowns is four defensive touchdowns. And that's
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: a guy that I think that you should be trying
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: to build around, especially now that Devin mccordy is retired,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Like he should be taking the and I'm not asking
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: him to give those raw ross speeches that Devin gave
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: and stuff like that, but in terms of on the
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: field and between the lines, like that should be your
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: next generation. And at some point, to your point, they
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: have to stick with some of these guys and you
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: can't just keep on turning them out because you do
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: have to have a walls. All right, We're gonna take
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: a quick break. Thank you for all the awesome emails,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: though they're playing of great ones. Can't wait to get
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: to those. We will do that right after this quick break.

- 1:19:12Speaker 1: our house in the middle of the street. Eric, you
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: you know what a dictionary? You just come look it up.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: You just completely butchered the name of a town in
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Massachusetts on a call earlier that morning. Syllable you should
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: easily know. Look it up, Eric, Gloucester. Don't take my word.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I live in Gloucester. Eric, don't take my word for Glochester. Eric,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: do not take my word for it. I don't look.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: I don't take your word for anything. Look it up.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: How many syllables does oh you are have? Look it up?
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: I don't have a dictionary in front of me. I
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: have one upstairs. You don't have one. Print it out.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: We have this thing called the internet. You know. Look
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: it up. Don't take my word for it, Matt, go ahead,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: look it up. How many syllables in the word oh
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: you are? And what are you saying? One? None? He's
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: saying that the word are and oh you are pronounced
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: exactly the same one. One. There you go, and there
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: it is our Paul, and there it is Paul. It's trying.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: It's try technology right now. Our who's saying that? Somebody
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: from China the dictionary the dictionary pronunciation. You told me
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: to look it up. I looked it up at the
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: dictionary and it has the pronunciation. How many audibles? Our?
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: He just said, one. Well, I just I'm just playing,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: are you I'm not listening to the pronuciation. Let me
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: see that hour, Let me see it. So Fred's picking
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: up the phone. Now it has a little it has
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: the little pronunciation. You got how you pronounce it? Do
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: you hear how it was pronounced? It's one. I don't
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: know how many syllables it is. It's pronounced hour, yea hour.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: It is not our. That's another great moment from Oh boy,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: that's a moment that's gonna live rent for you. I
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: am so agitated by that whole thing, and I wasn't
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: even the hard I'm sad that my joke towards Eric
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: fell a little flat, which was you don't have one
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: printed because Eric will print everything, like you know, if
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: we were going to talk about an article that Mike
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Floyda had written bout back, like, he would have come
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: down with it printed out, so he had no problem
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: killing trees. But that's my mom. She just has to
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: print everything, every receipt, every email. I'm like, you don't
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: need that printed, can just scan it coming around? Scan
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: it all right. Let's jump over to some emails now,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: because there's a lot of emails coming through and uh,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: and I think there's some good ones here. I'm gonna
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: try to pick some spots. I mean, a couple of
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: people emailed in games that that I gotta be honest,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: nobody here is gonna get so I'm gonna save those
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: ones for for the old guys, Paul and Fred. Hopefully
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: they'll go back through. Um. I thought this was a
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: good one, just to point out. This is Franklin in Baltimore. Um.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: He's saying, I remember the buzz around Chandler Jones being
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Did I say Chandler? I got that right? Okay, i'd say,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: you haven't heard of this yet, I say Chandler. I can't.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I can't get it right. I can't get it right.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: There's a street in La too that's like Chandler Boulevard.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: And I was driving there after this had already come
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: out on the show that I can't say Chandler. And
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I looked up and like, I hear Chandler, and I'm like,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: damn it when you like Monica and Chandler, Yeah, I
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: know why. I'm saying, what what what? What's What's way?
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: So Chandler's just a lot of effort. Chandler Jones being
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: pretty loud during his first training camp. Yeah, that's why
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: I'd also especially hurt when he was traded, at least
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: to me, because Jones was exactly the type of impact,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: instant impact player the current team needs. I I can't
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: believe we traded that DNA right out of this franchise. Still,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: we all know when it was over for Chandler Jones. Unfortunate,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: unfortunate end um to it. But I mean, I remember
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: having the debate you brought up. Dante High Tower is
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: the last one I remember debating like, well, actually I
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: take that back, because that was more Jamie Collins High
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: Tower thing. I was like, who would you who would
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: you keep if you had to, if you had to
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Sophie's choice those guys, which one would you kind of retain?
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: They kept their right one? Yeah. Um, and then they
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: got Jamie Collins back for it all worked out. Um,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna read this one. I
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: just like the beginning of it, but I don't know
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: where it's going. It's Lyndon Boston. Though Evan's head explodes,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: that's what she got me like, though Heaven's head explodes
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: at the thought winning through winning through a run first
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: offense appears to be on the table. Taylor Kyles, Evan's
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: successor at Sealing US, has taken the time to look
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: at the positive possibilities for competitive offense should the Patriots
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: draft a generational running back in the first round. I'm
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: gonna I'm just gonna before you, before you go after this,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I'm just gonna connect it to I still feel like
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: they want to attack small defenses and that if they
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: did do this, which I don't think they will, and
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: I think this is a smokescreen, but if they did this,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: that that would feed into that narrative. Okay, so there's
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: a million different directions I can go with this. The
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: main thing that I will say about it is that
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: I think people need to recognize that teams like San
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: Francisco I feel like as the always the team that
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: people yeah butt me with on this conversation right where
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: it's like, oh, you can't build a run first offense
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: anymore out of them. Yeah, But what about the Niners.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: The Niners have easily one of the most efficient passing
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: games in the entire NFL, so their foundational elements in
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: their run game are to set up the passing game
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: off of play action in similar looks that make it
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: all look the same, and then they hit them down
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: the field and that's how they really put up points
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: on the board. Their passing game is what wins them
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: football games. Their run game is how they set up
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: their passing game. So either way, we're still ultimately getting
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: to the same place. Whether you end up running the
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: ball a little bit more than another team or whatever,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you're still ending up to the point where it's third
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: and seven and it's the fourth quarter and it's a
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: tie game, and you need a first down and your
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: quarterback and your receivers have to make a play. Okay,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: And the Niners ran into the same problem in the
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Super Bowl where they couldn't make the play and the
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs come back and they're the ones whole
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: hoisting the trophies. So ultimately speaking, everybody needs to effectively
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: pass to win in this league. And if you go
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: out and you start investing in using resources on running
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: backs in the first round of the NFL draft, then
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you are still never going to get there on that
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: side of the football to where you ultimately need to be.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: So that's the big picture of it. The other thing
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: is that I hear and I love you, Taylor, I do.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: I like you a lot. But he put out a
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: bunch of this stuff about like, oh, we'll imagine all
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: the two running back sets that they could use with
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: their mare and b Jean Robbinson, what is his navy
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: in the nineteen fifties? Like what do you We're gonna
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: run the wishbone now. So we're gonna go into Buffalo
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: against Josh Allen and a need to win game just
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: like last year at the end of the season to
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: make the playoffs, and he's gonna come out in the wing.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: T well, it would work if there's a windstorm. To
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: be fair, MATC Jones did run the wing in high school.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: He likes to tell us that all the time, and
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: we talked to him about playing under center, Like that's
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: the biggest challenge that I have with this whole thing,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: is that if you're only way the only way that
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: you can beat a good team, name a good team
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Kansas City, Buffalo, Cincinnati, If the only way that you
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: can win is holding them in the teams and running clock,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: you are never going to beat those teams. You are
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: never going to beat him. And maybe you can beat
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: him once in a blue moon any given Sunday, like
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: in the windstorm in Buffalo a couple of years ago,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: you can sneak one past them. But if you're trying
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: to beat Josh Allen seventeen to fourteen, and ball control
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: and possession and run clock and all those types of things,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: you are going to lose a lot. You just can't
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: do that anymore. And it just the notion that that
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: could work is absolutely mind blowing to me. Also, I
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: would not as a fan want to go to a
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: game and watch that. Personally. That's like not esthetically pleasing.
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: That is not good, like bunts and seats. Sorry, deep
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: ball I got. I got this push back too, because
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: everybody was like, well, who cares about how they win? Tamara,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: if they win, they were It's just it's an it's
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: an outdated thought process to think that you can win
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: football games like that anymore. And I think a lot
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: of people look at a Tennessee from a few years
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: ago San Francisco and they say it can work. And
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: it's like those teams were ultra efficient on play action
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: passes and extremely good at throwing the football. They just
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: didn't throw the football in the volumes that other teams
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: maybe threw it in. Yeah, I mean, I thought you're
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: your Your point about the Rutgers kid Pacheco, you know
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: on Twitter, was apt, and I just I've brought it
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: up many times. I don't want to be like I
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: love Derek Henry. We all know I love Derek Henry,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: but I don't want to be the Derek Henry team.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: I don't want to be the Christian McCaffrey team, where like,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: all right, it's gonna be awesome until he gets dnked
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: up and then we're like just powerless to do anything.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Like it's nice when you get those guys, but like
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: you said, do you think seventh round guy who like,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: you know, gets it done. I can criticize the Patriots
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: for a lot. The way they do running backs is
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: not one of them, like, and that's why this would
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: be such an outlier for them. I know, be Jean
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: Robinson's exceptional talent. He's probably the best running back that
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I've seen come into the drafts and say Quon and
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: he's unbelievable, but like he had won one amazing season
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: and then now I'm like, yeah, now he's a piece
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: of the bright. Yeah. So that's why I'm like, not,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: I really hope they don't do that at fourteen. That's
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: what I like. What happened with him was like the
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: team was all around him. He got hurt, they couldn't
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: rely on him. They not that they found really a
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: lot else, but they did figure out a way to
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: at least be competitive with him. And then he comes
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: back and you're like, oh, now he's a nice piece
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: to add into this and he doesn't have to be
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: the guy anymore. Yes, I'm a fan of that, but
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: I just I wonder what Stevenson, you know, is there
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: is there a running back that could change this for them?
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: Is there a running back that they saying, you know what,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: we don't don't give a second contract to running back.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: But you're special, you fit in, you can take it all.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: And that's the other thing. And I think the Giant
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: and feel trapped in that scenario as well, even though
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: it's a different regime in New York, which I think
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: they should think about, Like we didn't draft say Kwon
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Barcley the second overall pick. It's not our fault that
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: that that happened. But with the Patriots, it's like if
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: you draft Bjean Robinson at fourteen and four or five years.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: Are you going to give him the second contract just
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: because you feel obligated to give him the second contract
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: because he probably is going to be pretty darn good
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: in his rookie contract. But look at with Dallas and Zeke,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: he's not even the best running back on the team anymore.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Tony Pollard's better than him. I mean, you're already talking
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: about the fifth year option, like what you're gonna have
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: to pay or running right on the fifth year option
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: like that seems crazy? Um, Alex and Charlotte writes in
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: um Charlotte, Charlotte, Charlotte, Like, oh, I'm saying, what foot
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: like the name? Charlotte, Charlotte. Good, Charlotte, Good Charlotte. Um.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: So it's like chocolate, it's not chocolates. I'm a young
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: Patriot fans, so all I've known all my life is
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Tom Brady. But the first season I can really recall
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: was the two thousand and six season losing to the
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: AFC Championships, go to the Super Bowl, to then follow
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: that with OH seven, which which Alex brought up with
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: more heartbreak looking back. Now, I'll do anything to have
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: seasons like that now. But I think the future is bright,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: and I believe the team will make strides to get
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: back in there. I like the positivity at the end.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Six it was a nightmare for me. Freddy Email. I
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: did go to that San Diego playoff game, though one
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: I've always said that was just my favorite experience as
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: a fan. Went through a whole ticket thing, like because
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: they relieved I was in California, They're gonna re leasse
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: tickets to people lived in California. It didn't get them,
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: went back on like I had them. Ticketmaster crashed as
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: it is wont to do. Lost my tickets. I was apoplectic.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: Went back in, got one ticket, don't know where it
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: is bought it. Look it's like eight rows and back
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: of the Patriots bench. So I went to that San
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: Diego play Patriots playoff game eight rows and I'm like, oh,
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna be surrounded by charge It was all Patriots fans.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Chargers awesome, I know, and they were chirping the whole
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: way down. And you know, at that point it was
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: you know, Tom and Bill had lost one playoff game ever,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: that was to Denver. That was it, and they were,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: you know, and they were coming off a great season.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: Philip Rivers was great and Ladanya Thomlinson was MVP. I
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: forget how many touchdowns he had, but you know that.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: I'm just like, I don't know, dude, you never can
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: rule him out. And they were they were very confident. Um,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: but that was that was a fun one. And we
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: all know oh seven which was just an absolute nightmare.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: So let's go there for bringing those things. Yeah, thanks
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: right now, appreciate that. Going down to North Carolina, Hey, Jerry,
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: how's it going. What's going on? Everybody? UM? Evan, Yes,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: sir so. On last week Catch twenty two, UM quession,
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: you had mentioned a wide receiver that I had mentioned
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: to probably about a month and a half a though
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: Charlie Joney and you were good can go over my
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: mad and you put a tweet on Twitter about he's
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: been gushing all over the place about him. Evan has
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: a case of recency pass right, So I want to
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: throw another name out there for Evan, or two names
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: out there for Evan. Like on these wild receivers, I
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: feel like they will be later around draft and give
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: the Patriots the ability to treat it back from the
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: first UM. Darius Davis from TCU, Matt Landers from our
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Kansas from Arkansas. I'm sorry, Matt Landers from Arkansas. And
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: then uh, Jalen Marino Crooper cropper from Fresno. Yeah, the
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: kid from Fresno has got a little bit of buzz.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: That's the one that uh, I've heard his name a bunch.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: But I look at with Charlie Jones. I think we
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: talked about this maybe on on another show Deuced. When
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: I watched him the first time before the combine, and
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I just was like, is he actually fast? Like he
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: looks like he's moving fast, but is he just one
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: of these guys that you know, just just plays with
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: his hair on fire. And then we get to the
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: combine and he runs a four six right, And that
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: was what I was concerned about with him. But when
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: he put up that time in the combine's four four three,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Zay was a four four two. So the guy, the
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: guy who was flying at the combine, and I was like, okay,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: so that speed is real, Like that's he's got track
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: level speed on top of the fact that he tracks
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: the ball extremely well, great hands, comes in and out
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: of the route better than anybody. If they're gonna pass
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: on receivers early and try to go into that like
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: third or fourth round range. I would take Charlie Jones.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: That would be my guy. Another email here, Uh, you
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: gotta gotta throw some a little bit of fire Paul's way.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: This is Johnny and Madtown. Right now, My ears aren't
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: bleeding and I haven't had to adjust my volume every
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: five seconds. So Paul must have the day off from
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: the pot. Good to see the kids all in great editions.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: All of them especially love Alex's jokes. There you go, Wow,
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: jokes making jokes. You got jokes? Um. Yeah. He just
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: says if that if the Patriots did move on from Mac,
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: who would the QB be next year? Would they roll
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: with Zappy or would they draft Anthony Richardson, who had
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: popped up on a mock draft yesterday. That seems that
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: seems another one, like I was talking if we're talking
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: to the one about this, I think one if they
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: were to draft quarterback, like if they kept Mac and
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: they were sold on that, I would see them maybe
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: drafting dtr like Late. Oh, we loved, we love us.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: I didn't even know how late it's going to be.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: I know that's the thing, but I could see them
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: picking him. Yeah, I really liked him at the Shrine Bowl.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: I liked like even at the press conferences, he gave
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: me like a very much like Patriot feel. Yeah, he's
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: got you know, he's a five year starter at UCLA,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: friend of Bill chip Kelly, and he played under but
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: that experience and that polish of being a multi year
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: starter and being a little bit older Mac Bailey, Zappy
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: Senior Bowl guys, guys that were around the block a
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: little bit before they came to the pros that they
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: gravitate towards those types of things, and DTR has got
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: that athleticism to be a little bit more of a
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: mobile passer runner than what they have currently on the roster.
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: So if you're looking to just try to spread it
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: around a little bit in terms skill sets and things
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: like that, that's their guy. I can't imagine that if
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: that's the route they want to go, that he's not
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: the pick. I don't know why you would pick. I
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: like Jaron Hall from by U two and that mold,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: but I don't know why you would pick that guy
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: in the same spot that you could pick DTR when
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: you worked with DTR as closely as they did at
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: the Try And Bowl. And I think if they do
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: pick a quarterback, I don't want one that's already similar
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: to what we already have in Bailey and Mac like
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: I would prefer someone with different skill set. Yeah, a
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: little game here from Tyler for Providence. Keep trade cut.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I don't know, we go. We do go a little
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: bit off football, which I like. M that's a good
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: one though, so keep trade cut. I mean essentially, you're saying,
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: which one do you want to keep? Which one do
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: you want to get rid of? Keep trade cut? Barmore, Stevenson, Dugger.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: Oh okay, I get the game. Now. I'm gonna keep Barmore. Okay,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep Dugger. Yeah, I'm gonna keep Dugger. I'm
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: gonna trade barn Moore because I think there might be
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: some value. That's absolutely true. And then I'm gonna cut
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Ormond's are running like I'm same as Evan. Yeah. Um,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I'm not sure exactly what this means because they're not
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: on the team, but let's just go with it. Juju,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: Darnell Mooney and Brandon Uk Yeah, I don't get it.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: I don't get either, but I'd like Brandon Aiyuk. Yeah,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: he might be one of those guys as quickly on
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: Brandon Aiyuk that we talk always about, like who's the
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: guy that's gonna come free, that's not gonna get the
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: next contract with the team that he's on. Yeah, Brandon Aiyuk.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: I mean they can't pay Kittle, Deebo McCaffrey. Like, at
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: some point somebody is gonna fall through the cracks in
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: San Francisco. But my favorite thing about Ayuk is that
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: he replaced Harry. I asked him about Harry. We're at
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: the combine. You know, that's my guy, you know all
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. Fourteenth pick Bijean Robinson, JSN or
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Peter Oh, that's tough. I mean you can't. How do
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: you You can't like trade the pick or trade that's
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: who you want? Which one would you pick? JSM Jason Yeah?
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Uh in their prime? Aaron Donald, Mike Singletary or Ed Reid. Okay,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: first of all, Mike Terry played middle linebacker out. Oh
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: my god, I loved Ed Reid. Keep Ed Reid. I
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: trade Donald because you know, you get something for him,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: and yeah, forget about the middle life backers. I like
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: to read um. All right, So this is for the
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: gen xer. That's me. Thank you, not Alonio. I am not,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: in fact a boomer, as everyone here at work likes
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: to yell at me, and Ed Reid is Ed Reid.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: I'm the generation stems think that they're throwing Madonna to
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: be fifty twos and Wham at Me, which, if you
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: guys have opinions, you can chime in on that. But uh,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: what's the what's the wham song? Wham? That's that's all
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: that's George Michael, so right, they have that one song? Though,
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: what's the song? Yeah, I Wake me up before you
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: go go? Yeah, yeah, I knew they had a song. Yeah,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: I gotta go with Madonna. I gotta go with Madonna.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: I would say favorite Madonna's song would either be Holiday
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: or Live to Tell Love, Live to Tell. My favorite,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: um Carol up fifty two. So though I think they've
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: got some I know everyone love Shack right, but Rome
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: is a great one as well. I think that what
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: that might qualify more? And Ashley soundtrack. Yeah, that's and
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: that's where I probably heard of World's UM. I like
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: Channels Z two, but the FIFTI but you gotta go Madonna,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: I mean, come on, Madonna, it's iconic. UM And for
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: the millennials, This is Run the Jewels, Childish Gambino or
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Chance the Rapper. Um, that's tough. It's between Chances Chance,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: I guess Childish Gambo Gambino is the most talented and
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: all the stuff, but Chance. Is it a hot take
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: to say that Chance had one good album, because that's
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: kind of how I feel about Chance one good album. Like,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: I know he's probably had mixed tapes before Coloring Book,
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: but I feel like he's never really been able to
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: replicate Coloring Book. But Childish Gambino is like a renaissance man,
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: so he doesn't just make music. So it's a Star
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Wars movie. Yeah, it's been a couple of years since
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: he feel like he's come out with with anything musically.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: This is America? Was that his last one of the Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: see I'm hip, I'm cool. It's a great song. I
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: need to tell you guys that Paul was texting me Jacole.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Oh what does that mean? He was texting me like
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: random um Jake because he couldn't think of the song
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: that he liked and he wanted to tell me. So
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: then I got he doesn't know what the name of it,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: So then I obviously get a random text out of
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: the blue and it is one time for my La sisters,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: One time for my La. Leave it to Matt to
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: be oh my god boy love. And then he texted
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: me again the next week because he was sending me
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: an article that me, him and Mike Greece were talking about.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: And then he prefaced the article with first things First,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: rest in peace, Uncle Phil for real for Phil from
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: from from Stop Stop. He died. He died. Wait, wait,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: he died, like died. He died like three years ago.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Much there's a lot of deaths during At least I
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: knew who he was, right, I gotta be credit for that. Yeah,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: I love this, Um, people can't. I don't know if
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: people can see this behind us. But the top available
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: free agents, that was very interesting. Obviously Obj's on there,
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: um is I think Ezekieli I missed the first slide,
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: but I think he's still in there somewhere too. Um.
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: But it was a pretty extensive list. I'm wondering how
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: many of those people will will find homes. Yeah, they
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: have that, um. So obviously the draft did. Once you
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: come away from the draft, you know what you didn't
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: get to in the draft and fill holes. But you
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: also have that deadline of when they stopped counting towards
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: the COMPIC formula, which I think for OBJ is gonna
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: be really really big because now if you do give
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: OLBJ some money, it doesn't count towards the COMPETI compics,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: So that that's big for teams, which also too. I
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: know the Hoyer contract was was favorable to the Patriots
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: in terms of yea dead cap coming off. Yeah, I'm
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I'm just hope that we have like a three headed
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: monster at the end of all this, like in terms
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: of like a great hope and you can pray, and
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: I feel like we need at least like a vet
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: well hope please, because this is a good question that
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: that'll kind of dig into this. Alexon Englewood, Englewood, New Jersey,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: the Young Gun's Crew filling in. That's right, great show.
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: Appreciate it, Appreciate you. Two questions. Is Theay someone you
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: need to trade up for or is fourteen a good
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: spot to stay at. I'm a BC football fans sad life,
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: I know and say would be a huge help. I mean,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I didn't even consider that having a trade up for
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: to day. I feel like fourteen he should, he should
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: probably be. Yeah, you could be there, But the rest
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: of the country is hyping him up as much as
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: we are here just because of BC. Yeah, I think not.
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: I think a lot of people aren't worth it, aren't
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: probably aware of him, just simply because like I'm sorry,
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: I would rather watch paint dry than watch BC football play.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: But I think that he has getting a lot of
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: traction on I have feel like, I feel like social
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: media helps you see players that you might not usually
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: see you on a Saturday. Yeahs like football, Like I
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: can even be imagine what their ratings are. I know, well,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go watch to Holy Cross beat them for
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: the first time in like forty years. This year they're
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: gonna play again for the first time. It's like the
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: rivalry has been restored. So I'm going to BC this year.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: I think it's the day before the opener is assuming
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: the Patriots open on There's definitely a lot of Zay
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: hype for teams. I would say they are picking at
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: the end of the first round. I know, like a
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: lot of people in Buffalo are praying that he makes
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: it that far down the boards so that they can
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: draft Bills right the Bills. The Bills mafia love to like,
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: but if he makes it to us like they love
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: that guy every year, it's like somebody that's gonna be
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: picked like fifteen picks ahead of their pick, and they're
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: always like, but he's gonna make it to twenty seven.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: It's like, no, no, I love when Evan Scolts Bills fans. Yeah.
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: Second part of this question, though, which was the part
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: I was I was going to get at for each
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: of you, what has to happen in the draft for
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: you to think that this team is headed the positive
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: direction and is going to win double digits this season.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: I might not say double digits us a lot strong um,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: but I think, I mean, you know t Evan's point.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: I think like, look, I we're gonna we're gonna do
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: drop our mock drafts tomorrow. And I do think tackles
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: still in that conversation, and I can make it the
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: case for that, but I think just to re energize
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: a fan base locally nationally, give Max something to kind
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: of chomp on a little bit. It's it's it's a
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: say Flowers type move, and that you know that that
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: is something to bring people out at training. I think
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: that with all of these picks that you have available,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: you cannot waste them on people that no one's ever
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: heard of, like no offense to like Cole Strange. But
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: like if I have to sit here and like go
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: deep back in like five rounds to find where Cole
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: strange hole was, I don't want you have all these
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: sec guys, especially if like there were so many other
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: people available that you could have taken. I think they
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: need to use these picks and go after like actual
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: great talent that's played against great competition. Not saying and
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: that culture and shiitt but I'm just saying is not
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: going to be laughing. Yes, literally needs it needs to
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: be like these picks need to be used on players
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: that are like actual come from actual football brands, Like
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: so I get like that brand version of what we need.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: That's my baseline. Yeah, my baseline is that these need
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: to be name brand, name brand, especially the two picks
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: on the top fifty if they want to go on
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: their own board from the third round on. Like it's
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: we're throwing darts as it is, So if you think
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: your dart is a better dart than my dart, than fine.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: But when you pick at fourteen and forty six. Those
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: are premium inside the top fifty, inside the top twenty
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: of the first round type of picks, and those have
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: got to be name brand, blue blood type of players
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: where you just start saying yes, like that's I know
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: who you're talking about. I know you're supposed to be
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: drafted here. You know, I know that's. The casual fan
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: of this team of our shows that listens to our
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: shows should be able to say, oh, yeah, I know
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: I know that guy. Yeah. If I don't, I've never
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: heard of your school before in my life, there's a problem.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: That's a baseline. I don't want it. We got we
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: got a great question I'm gonna wrap with. I'm gonna
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna pose that one just yet. We're too far.
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: I got one more pretty good football one. And I'm
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: glad from Richard from Florida who sent this in because
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: I feel like we spend so much time talking about Mac,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: the offense, Flowers, all those things. Um. The majority of
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: the time is addressing the average at best offense from
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: last year, which is understandable, but why not discuss the
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: defense and how many games they lost after the offense
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: had them ahead. Games like Las Vegas scoring in the
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: last minute before the infamous lateral Green Bay game pats
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: ahead defense allows three straight pass completions while the DBS
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: are seven Minnesota game pats ahead, and then allow the
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: receivers to catch and hoping to tackle any of the others.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: You can think of some of those games special teams
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: lost the game like that Minnesota game, like special teams
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: was horrible. I also just love to see I wish
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: Paul was here for this discussion because I know he
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: kind of falls on another side of this that he
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: feels the defense still is further away than I think
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: we all do. And I know that Deuce and I
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: do just from our conversations. I would love to see
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: the Patriots defense in a position where they don't need
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: to hold the opponent to seventeen points to win the game.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: They're not on the field the whole game. They want
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: to blame them for a loss. It's like how burnt
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: out where they at. Yeah, I just feel like there's
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: so much pressure on the defense every time they play
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: one of these good quarterbacks to hold the fort. And
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: there's the record speaks for itself. When opponents score more
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: than twenty one points against the Patriots, they haven't won
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: a game in like two years when the opponent scores
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: into the twenties. So if that, if you know that
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: going into every single game, that amount of pressure is
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: I think at times insurmountable. And you know the emailer's
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: point of Okay, well they you know, they didn't hold
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: the fort against Minnesota, they weren't able to get the
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: stop against the Raiders. Like yeah, like all those things
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: can be true, but I can also point to a
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: million things that the offense did wrong in those games
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: too that even got them in those positions or cost
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: them games, like in the Raiders game, or you know
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: in Cincinnati when Ormandre fumbles at the ten yard line
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: going in for the game winning score. Like this can
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: go both ways. But I just feel like, defensively, let's
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: see what it looks like when they actually feel like
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: their offense is going to go toe to toe for
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: once with another good quarterback and they don't need to
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: pitch a shutout against Josh Allen to get just to
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: get a win. I would just love to see that
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: it was a miracle just to see a touchdown scored
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: in the first like first part of the game, well
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: they didn't score seeing a bunch of fuel goals. The
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: opening drive. They their first opening drive touchdown of the
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: year was Thanksgiving night in Minnesota. That's thirteen weeks into
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: the season, and that was the first time that they
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: took the opening drive, which you practice all week long.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: You script, that's your game plan, right, that's your twenty
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: five players that you feel really good about going into
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: a game, and it took them till Thanksgiving to score.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: I mean that those are the types of things that
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: I feel like. This defense is just always backs against
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: the wall, always behind the eight ball. They're always trailing.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: You know, they got to get into some games where
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: the defense has a lead, and I think when we
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: see that, they do unlock that pass rush, you know,
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: UJ and jude On and those guys do get after
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: it against the bad teams when the Patriots played with
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: the lead. So I just would like to see that
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: before we go and sell on the defense. All right,
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw the last question, and I don't know
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: if it's gonna be the last one, just because we
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: got a little bit of time left, and of course
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: stick around. Evan's going four hours straight today. Catch twenty
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: two coming after you, right, and then mock draft is
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: my kind of We're gonna shoot a mock draft video,
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: so the mock drafts will be out tomorrow. They'll be
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: a mock draft video. There'll be big boards, which I mean,
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: we should probably tease this a little bit. I mean,
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: the big boards for us is a big We were
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: talking about it last night and now I have fifty one. Yeah,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: because Bijon Robinson is apparently in their radar. But I mean,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: just for a little bit of context, I mean, we've
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: I mean, I think this will be my twelve or
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: thirteenth year doing so it's fifty prospects, your favorite guys,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: your favorite fits, and it's uh and for me, when
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: I started doing it was like, how can I kind
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: of hold myself accountable because I feel like everybody liked
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: es here's my mark draft, here's mock Draft twenty seven
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: point three, and oh yeah, I got that in mock
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: Draft twenty four point for you know, like it's just
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: because like, all right, that's ridiculous. Like so every year
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: I'm just like, all right, fifty guys, how many can
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: I get in? Last year was the first time of
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: like twelve years, I didn't get any. So I blame
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: macrow for that one, and we both I think we
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: both took Cold Strange off of our big boys totally
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: before I had Cold Strange. So usually what I do
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: is I really try to focus on nailing the top
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: one hundred, like it when their first three picks, I
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: just want to get those picks. And I took Cold
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: Strange off because I thought it was a fourth rounder.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I would love how different draft feel would be if
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: we had a GM, like not build doing both. Like
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: I wonder like how much different it would be if
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: a separate person was a GM. I think you just
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: have to pretend Matt grow is the GM, and that's
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: probably what it would be like, Like you have mac
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: Row kind of speaking for things and you know it
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: is what it is. I just feel like that, you know,
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: just a little bit of conversations that I've been able
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: to have with mac Row is that his he's he's
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: a college guy through and through. That's how he came
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: up the ranks, was area scout and then you know,
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: director of college Scouting and then director a player Personnel,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: and his just knowledge of the recruiting trail and coaches
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: and people out on campus and like things like that
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: that you just need to you need to have that
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: connection to like it was like what we were talking
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: about earlier about like knowing the kid and like knowing
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: his mental makeup and knowing his attitude. And I think
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: that's really difficult to do as a head coach slash
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: general manager when Bill all Fall is focused on his
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: own team and then he switches gears to then going
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: into the draft. Whereas a guy like mac Row, you know,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: those guys are on the road constantly. They're at these games,
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: Like they don't just watch guys on TV like we
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: all do. Like they're going to Ohio State and watching
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: Jackson Smith and jig but play football up clothes. And
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: then they're going and they're talking to his receivers coach,
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: and then they're talking to you know, his buddy that
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: he's roommates with. Yeah, Like they just go down that
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: rabbit hole. And I think it's difficult to then come
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: in in January and say, well, these are the best
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: guys I see on film, but not having that background,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: in that connection. So that's why I'm optimistic. The only
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: reason why I'm optimistic is because when I talked to
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: Macro about the draft, he has that he loves that
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: type of stuff, like you can truly healing. Like that's
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: my issue. It's like I wonder when it came to
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: Cole Strange, like where was Matt grow on that at fourteen?
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: I mean at fourteen, well at that pick? Yeah, where
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: was he? And how much it was like Bill being
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: the GM and the coach like just trumping the decisions.
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: I think the which my read on the Cole Strange
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: situation was that he I think Bill felt like they
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: really needed a guard because of free agency, because Ted
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: Carris left, they traded Shack Mason, and they created this
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: hole for themselves at guard, and I think Bill really
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: felt that they needed a guard and the board that
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: they had stacked had Cole Strange as the best guard
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: on the board, So they took the guard. But would
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: that be what mac Row would do? Probably not, because
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I think a lot of executives around the league just
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: look at it as talent, like let's just grab talent, right,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: and so I think mac Row would look at it
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: and say, well, our number one rated player on our
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: vertical board is so and so. So I think the
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: GM would probably take that player, whereas the coach looks
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: at it from two different hats. Of where's my biggest
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: hole on my depth chart and what's my board staff?
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: Act like, we don't have a left guard right now
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: if the season were to start tomorrow, Cole Strange. That's
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: where I think like having a separate GM would be
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: very helpful. I feel like if you had the separate GM,
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: you probably wouldn't have let all those people go to
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: create that big of a hole for you before the draft. Yeah,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: I just think that the problem that I agree and
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: I think the issue is that I think where the
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: Patriots are right now, they need to be in a
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: position where talent trumps need in some mixed respects. And
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: I'm talking about of both sides of my mouth, because
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: I wouldn't take me John Robinson. But at the same time,
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: I feel like talent, they don't have a good enough
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: roster to start worrying about who's going to start at
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: left guard in Week one. They just need to get
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: the best collection of talent that they possibly can through
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: the draft and then figure out where everybody fits after
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: the fact. So when you're rebuilding like this, that's I
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: think Trump's everything is, let's get the best football players
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: in the building and not necessarily think about it from
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: that coaching perspective of building a depth chart. Yeah, Like
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: I remember literally being in the draft show and our
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: pick was coming up and the people that I was
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: like so excited about, we're still available, and then we
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: traded back and got cold strange and I was like, yeah,
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: who's your guys? It from Florida State. Yeah, I think
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: John I was sick. Yeah, I was like, are you kidding?
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: Like he was literally still there. It was all falling
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: into place and t back. Yeah. All right, So last question,
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: you know, famous listener Boston Cream favorite? Um, very simple,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: direct to the point. Hello state, your amount rush were
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: of desserts. So I love I love desserts, and I
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: thought this was a good one. And I'm also going
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: to add one part in honor of Boston Cream. What's
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: your what's your favorite donut? Oh at, it doesn't have
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: to be at Dunkin Donuts, but it could be if
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: also Duncan does not have the best donuts. It's pretty
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: much no, I no, no, I know, I know, I know,
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: I know. I mean, we'd all love to go to
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: PVD don'tut Duncan. There's Kenny's already right there. Sorry, Kenny Dessert.
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: I think I gotta go ice cream. I love ice cream. Yeah,
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: just ice Wait, you need to say flavor begun. Um
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: my latest one know that? Uh that that my I
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: guess he's like my stepdad down. I don't know when
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: your mom gets remarried when you're in your forties, do
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: you call the guy your stepdad? It's like he's Dawn
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: love Dawn Dawn. Peanut butter Sundays, Holy crap, those are
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: delicious peanut butter sauce, ice cream. And even we're not
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: speaking your language. I know we're going dairy heavy, but
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: it was cream chocolate chip, ice cream, peanut butter Sunday.
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: Gotta have the whip cream cherry nuts. See, I'm weird
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: because I feel like, like, like ice cream is complimentary too,
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: like the desserts like and like, yeah, so ice cream
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: is great, but I wouldn't well answer that, what's so?
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: What are you picking? Then I'm torn because I really
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: like apple pie with ice cream incredible. But then I'm
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: also I love sweet potato pie, but I like that's
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: only seasonal. And then I also love cheesecake, Like I'm cheesecake.
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: Cheesecake is again not something that we can have, but
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: but something I love like cheesecake, especially at cheesecake factory
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: endless flavors. It's just I can't, are you ice cream?
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: What flavor? Specific place? Cookies and cream. I'm not super
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: picky about the place. I just like when it's like
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: a real nice part serve that's nice and creamy, and
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: you can tell it's a quality ice cream. And then
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: it's such an Alexander that wasn't alex answer? Wait for
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: this one? Fruit salad? Like all the fruit is my
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: favorite thing in the world. I think I housed my
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: weight in grapes last night. I love fresh fruit and
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: fruit salad dessert. It's just a salad ice cream. What
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: are the fruits? Potato chips? If we ever have a
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: polo and don't let Alex bring the dessert, I would
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: bake all of you. I would like that. But it
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: has to be dairy free though, all right, So I'm
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: just gonna go. I'm gonna go pre dairy. Who's your
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: flowers of dessert? Oreo cheesecake. Oh that's great, that's an
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: amazing Yeah. I mean you're you're speaking my language right now.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: I have a very very bad sweet tooth. So I
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: would say Oreo cheesecake. Uh, nothing beats in great hot
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: fudge brownie Sunday Like that's that's just quality for me.
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: I really, I'm old school. I've a nice piece of
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: birthday cake is still like really solid to me, like
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: some good frosting, marble cake, some good frosting. I really
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: like that. You don't like marble cake. You get a
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: little bit of both. It's the perfect scenario, a little
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: bit of how could you not like that? And then
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: it's Matt Rushmore right, so you gotta go for Yeah,
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: I do like a nice chocolate fudge cake, like just
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: like multi layers. I just said, yeah, I have a
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: very bad sweet too. I gotta throw one more up
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: and I make it now is cookie skillet? Like make
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: it iron skillets? Make the cookie and then put some
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: ice cream on it? So good? And why does it?
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: Why do you? I don't know if you guys agree
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: with this, But I have ice cream. I need whipp
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: cream too. Why do you need ice cream and whipped cream?
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: What is it about the two contrasting textures that make it?
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: But I gotta have whipped cream on. It's a good one.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: And dug a Donuts rules, Sorry, not very sweet, but
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: I love cape cod. I don't know. I'm a salty girl.
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: I guess so some cape cod potato chips like just
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: yeah chips a dessert though, like a dessert chip, snack sandwich.
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: It's empty. Bullshit. We got her, We got her, I
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: first swear. Crap, darn it. That's good. All right, Well,
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: we're gonna wrap the things up. Don't forget the stay tuned.
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: Catch twenty two coming up next and doubt. Like we said,
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: three weeks away from the draft, but we are just
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: going to be pumping out stuff for the draft. Mock drafts,
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: big boards, all kinds of analysis. I haven't wrote up
