- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. So today we are talking about
- 0:32rewiring your days. And this is the subject that's
- 0:37very fascinating to me because most people show up for coaching
- 0:40and they think, Oh my gosh, I don't know how I'm going to do
- 0:44this. I don't know how I'm going to
- 0:47change. I don't know the particulars of
- 0:49any of this and they get overwhelmed before they even
- 0:51start. And one of the simplest things
- 0:54that I. I really have to have everybody
- 0:58understand right at the from the very beginning of working with
- 1:00me and coaching with me is that you are a creature of habit.
- 1:05You are a creature of patterns and it is possible to change.
- 1:09Like you have to believe it's possible to change.
- 1:12And by changing your patterns, even the simplest of patterns,
- 1:15things start to evolve. So there are estimates out there
- 1:19that we have between 60 and 80 thousand thoughts a day.
- 1:22I mean, think about that. That's insane that that a person
- 1:25can have that many thoughts. First of all, it always
- 1:27fascinates me as to how they track this, but they do.
- 1:30And 60 to 80 thousand thoughts a day.
- 1:34The kicker is 2/3 of them are repeated from the day before.
- 1:38Now that's even more insane when you think about.
- 1:41The how the human brain works and when you repeat things, they
- 1:45become part of who you are. So most of us learned
- 1:48multiplication that way, where we were just drilled, wrote,
- 1:51learned it over and over and over and over until we could
- 1:53recite it and do it quickly so that we knew those basic
- 1:57fundamentals, which is the the crux of how your brain likes to
- 2:02work. Repetition is the mother of
- 2:04skill for human beings, and once we do it, we can do it better
- 2:08and better and better and better.
- 2:10But the really hard thing to understand is if the patterns
- 2:13are not resourceful, you are repeating them anyway.
- 2:18You are becoming more resourceful at the unresourceful
- 2:22activity. So think about what I just said.
- 2:25If it's a destructive activity and you do it more and more and
- 2:28you become better at the destructive activity, you're
- 2:30still going to. It's going to be a pattern.
- 2:32It's still going to affect you. You can't just get away from it
- 2:35because it's destructive. You know, and we have patterns
- 2:38in everything we do. Think about how you take a
- 2:40shower. You go and get in the shower in
- 2:42the morning or the evening whenever you do your showering
- 2:45and boom, all of a sudden you wash the same way.
- 2:49You have the same pattern of how you wash yourself, how you do
- 2:51your hair. Same thing about how you blow
- 2:54dry your hair or how you shave, brush your teeth.
- 2:57You always start in the same spot.
- 2:58For most people it is very driven.
- 3:01The side of the bed they sleep on, how they put their clothes
- 3:03on. Try to put your sneakers and
- 3:06socks on differently and watch how your brain goes.
- 3:08Wait, what? Because it's so conditioned.
- 3:11So the point of this is rewiring your brain is very simple in the
- 3:18sense that you change the pattern of how you do something
- 3:21and then everything else gets scrambled.
- 3:23So let's say you want to start your day off and you want to
- 3:26start meditating. And you've always said I want to
- 3:28meditate. I know it's good for me.
- 3:30I hear how great it is, but I just can't seem to get it.
- 3:33I struggle with it. Part of the problem is you're
- 3:36trying to insert something new into old patterns, so I will
- 3:41often tell my clients the best way to do that is to start
- 3:44scrambling your patterns. Now for any Seinfeld fans out
- 3:48there, if you're a big Seinfeld fan and I am a big Seinfeld fan,
- 3:52there was an episode where George was talking about
- 3:54opposite George and he was going to do opposite of everything
- 3:57that George ever talked about. And it was so great because he
- 4:00was scrambling his own patterns right down to if he ordered tuna
- 4:03salad, now he was going to order egg salad.
- 4:05If he was going to order coffee, he would normally now always
- 4:09order coffee. He would now order tea.
- 4:11He's scrambling the simplest of patterns.
- 4:14And then the others become open to interpretation and you can
- 4:18allow new things to happen. It's kind of like you're
- 4:20tricking your brain. You're just saying if I always
- 4:23walk to my left and now I walk to my right, and while I'm
- 4:27walking to my right, I think of something else I want to do, it
- 4:30becomes easier. So right from the morning, let's
- 4:33say we're going to add in the meditation, you wake up in the
- 4:35morning instead of going in and. You know, doing your day like
- 4:41you normally would, grabbing your phone, checking your text
- 4:43messages, your emails or whatever.
- 4:45You say, no, I'm not going to do that.
- 4:47You get up, you drink water and you go and you meditate first.
- 4:51Right away you've scrambled your brain because you're not looking
- 4:54at the old pattern and doing the phone or whatever.
- 4:57Now obviously you probably have to pee in there first.
- 5:00You get up. I know.
- 5:00I'm just saying that don't touch the typical patterns.
- 5:04It's okay though, to get up and pee first if you need to.
- 5:07Or get up and brush your teeth and pee.
- 5:08Fine. But talk about it in the sense
- 5:11of the big stuff that you're going to move around so that
- 5:14your brain does not have the same response.
- 5:17I promise you, if you try this technique, you're going to be
- 5:19astounded as to how different you feel right away.
- 5:22Because it really doesn't matter if you're going for a walk or
- 5:25you're meditating, or you decide to read or you decide to change
- 5:29the smallest of small things, the one shift in the morning
- 5:31makes all the difference. So work on this.
- 5:35And practice it. Scramble as much as you can and
- 5:39then try putting the new things in.
- 5:41Because I promise you, when you do it, it will interrupt those
- 5:45old patterns and then you have the opportunity to put in the
- 5:48new ones you want. I hope you all have a blessed
- 5:51day and I will see you tomorrow.
