- 0:00You're listening to the Be Forever Cool podcast.
- 0:02My Name Is Rex. My name is TJ with two wheels
- 0:05and coffee. What's?
- 0:06Going on, man, how things. Shivering over here, man, it is
- 0:13cold time of the year. I'm sure you guys got some cold,
- 0:17cold weather yourself. I I guess I got to say happy New
- 0:20Year first of all, because. Yeah, Happy New Year guys.
- 0:23Haven't been here in a couple weeks and had a good Christmas.
- 0:30Good New Year and looking forward to new things, you know.
- 0:34Right, right. I I, I I agree it.
- 0:38It's been to get back to what you were saying about the
- 0:41weather in in Chile it's been a little chilly down here for sure
- 0:44more than I would like it to be. You know, I, I, as you see I'm
- 0:49I'm in I'm in a I'm in a T-shirt so it's not too bad.
- 0:52But it it is it's not like it's not like up north for sure.
- 0:55So I'm not going to, I'm not going to sit here and and
- 0:57pretend like it is, but it, you know, it's still a little chilly
- 1:00in the morning. Yeah, that was a tornado in
- 1:05Florida I saw. I don't know if that was near
- 1:07you, but I don't know if you heard about it.
- 1:10No, that missed that. You know, that missed me.
- 1:13So I didn't have to deal with that as much.
- 1:14It was some wind, for sure. A lot of wind, but no, no
- 1:18damage. No damage in the neighborhood or
- 1:20anything like that. So yeah, that's good.
- 1:26Yeah, you know, just trying to stay warm and get through this
- 1:31cold winter and just counting down pretty much.
- 1:34And that's I'm getting ready for.
- 1:38You know, my season is started up here when the salt washes
- 1:41away and you know, they refill the potholes and they'll be
- 1:46ready to go. Yeah, I picked up my my
- 1:50Multistrada today. So you know, I'm excited to get
- 1:55out and start riding again on the street.
- 1:57So you know, I feel like I noticed like it's on, this is on
- 2:01my first year down down in Florida.
- 2:03So I still remember it was like up there and I was up there a
- 2:06few weeks ago. So you know, it's it's it's
- 2:09chilly and it's tougher to ride in those conditions up there,
- 2:13but you know you can do it. Yeah, you can do it.
- 2:17But you know who really. You'd be riding alone pretty
- 2:20much. You know, that's kind of my
- 2:24style. That's that's kind of my style.
- 2:26You know, I I tend to ride when I when when I ride, I pretty
- 2:31much ride alone on the streets, you know, because I'm usually
- 2:34going somewhere and you know, hopefully that'll change down in
- 2:38down in Florida, you know, try to meet up with some people and
- 2:42and and try to go for rides. But you know, it's, you know,
- 2:46sometimes you got to go by yourself, man, because if you if
- 2:48it's itching, if you're itching for that to to ride and you know
- 2:51no one wants to break their bike out because it's a little chilly
- 2:53up north, You know, it's kind of like, you know, you got to do
- 2:57what you got to do. I must say, I must say I I do
- 3:01ride a lot alone. I travel a lot to and from work
- 3:05and you know, if I just want to go to a store or just a quick
- 3:10ride. And I must say is when you do
- 3:13add a couple other riders, like it's like going on a mission
- 3:17pretty much like you always find something, you know get in a
- 3:22little trouble. Not not too much, but you always
- 3:25find some way to get a little feisty.
- 3:29Other. For sure I I used to ride with
- 3:32some folks, you know, we talked about Jesse and Lloyd.
- 3:35I used to ride with them on Sundays and and go out for
- 3:37rides, but you know, they they didn't ride once they got got
- 3:41cold. So it's tougher.
- 3:43But yeah, no, it's always nice to go out with with with friends
- 3:45or people. And you know, for me, I like to
- 3:48go for, you know, long rides, right.
- 3:51We're going from like 8:00 in the morning till you know six
- 3:547:00 at night type of thing getting 300 miles and you know
- 3:58whatever the case may be on some B roads or you know and and
- 4:02stuff like that. So you know that's my kind of
- 4:05ride and I like to do and you know I don't want I, I we try to
- 4:08stay away from you know cities with with a lot of traffic
- 4:11lights and and so forth. Yeah, as I try to hit the
- 4:17country roads, back roads, especially on low traffic hours.
- 4:24So try to find the right time of the day where it's like where
- 4:28you know it's no rush hour traffic, or where where cars
- 4:31won't go at a certain time of traffic time.
- 4:34So have my fun doing that, right?
- 4:37So. Yeah man, like I keep saying,
- 4:40you got to come on down because you know there's bikes down here
- 4:44that you can ride and you know, if you're looking to, I get on
- 4:47the bike before when you when you when you bring your bike out
- 4:50April. I shoot for right before April,
- 4:55so I want to say like bring it out into March, but you know,
- 4:59weather's not always forgiven. So I try the mandatory like I
- 5:05have to bring it out in April because obviously you know now
- 5:08that I'm into the the race club racing, you know that starts end
- 5:13of April. So I can't, I can't have no type
- 5:18of training, you know, before I just jump on a track.
- 5:23So I I try to like, suck it up in whatever I got to do to get
- 5:28out there, and hopefully it's still not snowing at the time.
- 5:32Right, right. Hopefully you know, hopefully.
- 5:34I mean, you never know. I mean we've we've gotten the
- 5:36snow all the way up until May a couple years ago.
- 5:38But you know, I mean it's unpredictable.
- 5:42Hopefully, hopefully, the spring starts early.
- 5:45Yeah, and you know, fingers crossed man, because you know we
- 5:50on two wheels like to get out and and and you know and do our
- 5:54thing. So hopefully this year, as they
- 5:57say the the Groundhog will come out and and and and and and make
- 6:02and make make everything right. One, one thing I do like about
- 6:06New England is like when all the bikes are put away, like you
- 6:12know, you don't hear motorcycles for a couple months, so once it
- 6:15starts to get nicer and you start to hear like the Harleys
- 6:17and the sport bikes, it's just a good feeling.
- 6:19So that's we can't wait for that.
- 6:21Right. Yeah, I know what you mean.
- 6:23It's it's like that down here too.
- 6:24Not a lot of people are riding their bikes down here right now,
- 6:27but definitely people are out. But not like when when the
- 6:31weather is, is, is, is better. So you know, you know, it is
- 6:36what it is. Let's get into what's going on
- 6:39in World Super Bike because they hear their rule changes that are
- 6:44that are coming down. What?
- 6:45What have you heard about that, TJ?
- 6:48Yeah, I mean there's a world Super bike is changing.
- 6:53A couple things around. First of all like BMW have
- 6:59looking forward to a good year and you know they got some rule
- 7:04changes for as far as grid set up, fuel consumption and a
- 7:10couple of things here. Let me see if I can read off of
- 7:14of that there, I lost it here. Sorry about that.
- 7:21I think the rule changes, You know, there's going to be some
- 7:23people probably a little bit unhappy about the rule changes
- 7:27and I don't know if they gave any any details as to what
- 7:31brought about the changes. Is it?
- 7:33I don't know if they're trying to level the playing field a
- 7:35little bit for some of these other manufacturers, you know?
- 7:42What I mean that I'm not 100% sure of like you know I feel
- 7:46like World Super Bike is very interesting because I think they
- 7:51make the things things a lot more interesting.
- 7:55So for as far as like the grid updates I can read it off.
- 7:59It says in order to to highlight outstanding performance, the SBK
- 8:05Commission's decided to. I decided that regarding the
- 8:08grid positions for Race 2, the first nine grid positions will
- 8:12be based on the fastest time recorded by the riders during
- 8:15Race one for World Super Sport, World Super Sport 300 and the
- 8:22World WCR classes. OK did.
- 8:27They say I don't. That's pretty cool.
- 8:28Yeah. I I don't remember how it was
- 8:30before. I think the I I don't.
- 8:33It seems like the the grid position for Race 2, I think
- 8:37that was based on the Sprint race right?
- 8:40Because the Sprint race was was after race one, so so now
- 8:45they're just going to base it off of of race 1 instead of the
- 8:48Sprint race. Yeah, you know, some people in
- 8:51the back might have a faster time than some of the guys as
- 8:56some of the guys in the front and finish further back.
- 8:59So I guess that changes things up a little bit.
- 9:02Not to bring up Moto America, but they would.
- 9:07Wherever you finish race one will be your set up for race 2,
- 9:12you'll be in the same group position.
- 9:13So yeah, that's pretty cool with the fastest times the first nine
- 9:18riders though the first nine group positions.
- 9:21Oh, got you only. OK, that makes sense because if
- 9:23you're in the back, I mean you can just Createspace and and and
- 9:27pull out a couple of fast lap times, right, if you wanted to
- 9:30since, you know, if you weren't going to score points or
- 9:32anything like that. So it it it's good that there is
- 9:35a cut off of the first top riders so no one is sitting
- 9:39here, you know, flopping as they say.
- 9:43Yeah, there's a couple chassis component updates that's pretty
- 9:46much very detailed. So I mean they got some triple
- 9:50clamp steering stem and rear suspensions that that they talk
- 9:55about and fuel flow control for testing and for racing.
- 10:02So they're changing a lot, which hopefully brings the competition
- 10:07level a lot more even. You know, we've seen a lot of
- 10:11have a Batista. Just take everything.
- 10:15Well, I mean, you know, fairness, Jonathan Rigg before
- 10:18the top rock 116 in a row and they weren't doing that, you
- 10:22know what I'm saying? Nothing was happening when
- 10:24outside it was, it was winning six in a row.
- 10:28So I, you know, I'm just saying. They they see something in
- 10:33Ducati, though, after what they're doing in Moto GP and all
- 10:37across the board. So, Oh no, they they must know
- 10:40something. You know, I think Ducati has the
- 10:43secret sauce moment and and that's all it is.
- 10:47And you know, it's, you know, for, for for folks that love
- 10:50Ducati, it's awesome. But and I'll say I said it
- 10:53before and I'll say it again, you know, there are many years
- 10:55when you know Ducati was not winning, you know, So it's not.
- 11:00You can't look at 2 championships in Ducati's world
- 11:04super bike and motor GP and sit here and say all of a sudden,
- 11:07like, we need to do all this stuff to stop them.
- 11:09If the secret to us is that good, then, you know, maybe they
- 11:13might run for 10 years, you know, maybe it's LeBron James, D
- 11:16Wade and Chris Bosh, I don't know.
- 11:20You know what I'm saying? We all win 11 championships, you
- 11:22know, But I, I, you know, I think it's a, you know, like I
- 11:29said when Honda and and and Yamaha and kawaii as far as in
- 11:34World Superbike Kawasaki Ducati wasn't sitting here saying let's
- 11:39change the rules, let's change the rules, let's get concessions
- 11:41or any of that stuff. Now, you know, I'm just like
- 11:45really getting into this, you know, last couple years.
- 11:48So I don't know if they do rule changes constantly yearly or by
- 11:54yearly, you know, stuff like that.
- 11:56And I don't know if they're Alfred Ducati trying to like
- 11:59make sure they don't run away with all the championships, you
- 12:01know, give us some time like Honda did it.
- 12:03So, like, I think it's just too soon.
- 12:06If they don't make rule changes a lot, it's too soon I think, to
- 12:09just make them right away. Well, yeah.
- 12:12And you know you know not to pick on Scott Redding because
- 12:14you know I'm a big fan of his but you know he did talk about
- 12:18weight limitations and stuff like that minimum weight
- 12:21limitations because of Alvarez weight and stuff like that.
- 12:24And you know when Danny Pedroza was suffering because he he
- 12:29couldn't get heat in that rear tire on on on a Honda in in cold
- 12:33attempt cold attempts. You know no one was sitting here
- 12:38saying anything. So you know I I don't know for
- 12:44sure if you know if it's just general complaint that that gets
- 12:49rule changes happen or maybe they see data that that you know
- 12:53because at the end of the day it's entertainment right and
- 12:55they want it to be entertaining. So I don't know if they're
- 12:57looking at data to sit here and say we have to make changes to
- 13:01to to you know it it it's more beneficial on when you know you
- 13:06have eight different riders from 8 different manufacturers or six
- 13:10different manufacturers or whatever the case may be.
- 13:13You know have the chance to win a race versus you know if it's
- 13:17just Ducati, Ducati. Ducati again nobody said
- 13:20anything when Marquez and you know I guess it was it was Honda
- 13:23in Yamaha. So it it it it it did go kind of
- 13:26back and forth as far as the motor GP but getting World super
- 13:29Bike it was Kawasaki for six years and you know you know I'm
- 13:36I'm still new as well but you know and and I think rule
- 13:39changes happen for different reasons track reasons safety
- 13:41reasons and stuff like that. So I but I don't know if they do
- 13:45specifically for manufacturers. I will say when they when Moto
- 13:49GP banned the wings initially, when Ducati first started
- 13:54putting wings on on bikes and stuff like that, you know,
- 13:57definitely that that was that was something there, right.
- 14:00So you know and and you know they did come back around
- 14:04because everybody got them, but it definitely did.
- 14:06You know, when I think, when they had the two wings or
- 14:08whatever, they're like, no, no, no, no, only one.
- 14:12They're trying everything, you know, now, now they're they
- 14:15just, they're like a airplane now, legit wings everywhere.
- 14:19Right. So I I don't know if that's the
- 14:20case. I hope that's not the case and
- 14:22you you brought up BMW earlier because they you know this
- 14:25unveiled their their delivery for for both their the factory I
- 14:30think they're both factory teams or factory satellite teams with
- 14:35with you know red in girl of top rock and I forget the last
- 14:41person now slips slips my my tongue and you know the BMW
- 14:48looks good and yeah I think you know we saw flashes of it last
- 14:53year with Gerloff with Redmond a little bit and and so I you know
- 15:00and from what I can tell from the from from the delivery date
- 15:06that they you know it seems like they're all getting along it
- 15:09seems like they're all on board to work with each other and and
- 15:14and try to you know bring BMW to the forefront and I know BMW.
- 15:20Top, top Rock brought that team to life, you know?
- 15:23Well, I mean, they're already a pretty good.
- 15:25Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean it's.
- 15:27Too. It's too soon to say if he
- 15:28brought him to life. But definitely having a guy that
- 15:31won a title and and rode the way he rode last year, it it's, you
- 15:36know it. It does help.
- 15:38They they still have to perform at the end of the day.
- 15:41But like, you know, if you're on a team and then, you know Mark
- 15:45Marquez comes to the team, you're like, all right, now I
- 15:47got to step my game up, you know, like.
- 15:49So I think Todd Barack would probably just brought a little
- 15:52extra oomph to the whole team to step up and they all want to get
- 15:58all positive data and now they're all really working
- 16:01together. I think they're all very
- 16:04versatile and they have obviously different styles of
- 16:06riding, but I think they're hopefully going to have a good
- 16:09year. And hopefully you know if.
- 16:13If you're a BMW, because. You know.
- 16:18I mean, I haven't really been a BMW fan, but it's good to see,
- 16:21you know, another manufacturer that we don't see often.
- 16:23And like I was, we was talking about the rule changes now I
- 16:27think they mentioned earlier this year how, however Bautista
- 16:31has to add weight to his bike or something like that to, yeah.
- 16:35I believe so. I think he does have to add some
- 16:37weight to his bike. So that's that's another thing.
- 16:40So we'll see. I mean, BMW is a pretty heavy
- 16:44bike too, so I don't think they have to really worry about that
- 16:48too much. Well, that and.
- 16:50Shedding weight. Yeah, those guys are not as as
- 16:54light as as Alvaro, so so no. Yeah.
- 16:59So it'd be interesting to see with BMWI mean the the street
- 17:03bike is a nice bike. It's I haven't ridden from what
- 17:07I hear, because I haven't ridden one.
- 17:09It's a nice bike and it seems from what I've heard the new
- 17:12bike you know handles like a 600 and and and so you know it it it
- 17:18you know BM WS money is long and they they they want to be at the
- 17:22forefront like like in like in on four wheels they want to be
- 17:25up there and and and kudos for them for because you know they
- 17:29really changed the game because they really brought technology
- 17:31in with with 1000 right. I mean they're the first ones to
- 17:35bring all that in and it's interesting how you know
- 17:38Ducati's been able to you know bring it to a different level.
- 17:42So you know so they they they they got skin in this game and
- 17:45and they're trying to come out there come out with with
- 17:47something but I don't you know we'll see I don't know if they
- 17:51if I I suspect they'll probably finish top four top three you
- 17:57know if I have to guess right now because it's it's it's until
- 18:02until until top rocket out there and and we see if he can run up
- 18:06front like he was doing on the Yamaha.
- 18:09It's really hard to say because, you know, Scott Redden was
- 18:11running out the underduck and then on the BMW he's, you know,
- 18:15he struggled here and there. So you know, who knows what will
- 18:19happen until until he gets out there.
- 18:23Me and I say that about Moto GP rider to going to a new team,
- 18:28but we'll talk about another time.
- 18:31Are we going to talk about that? Are you talking about you got
- 18:33you got something you want to say?
- 18:34You talking about Mark Marquez? Maybe.
- 18:39You know, maybe. You know, we got to see what he
- 18:41do first, you know, see first race, everybody's already
- 18:44predicting championship and. Yeah, but you know.
- 18:47I I love him, though. I love him.
- 18:49You know in all I just. Can't do it?
- 18:50Yeah, after who's out there already.
- 18:52In all fairness to, you know, top Rock, You know him and Mark
- 18:58Marquez are on different levels and I think if it was any other
- 19:01rider, I'll be 100% with you. But you know, I I I think he's,
- 19:08I think he's one of the few riders that can do that though,
- 19:10you know what I'm saying? He's one of the few riders that
- 19:12will get up there, but we'll see.
- 19:13You're absolutely right. We won't know until it gets out
- 19:16there, until until he gets out there and everybody else get out
- 19:19there. Is it is it March yet?
- 19:20Levels. The levels are different too, so
- 19:23you know. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 19:27For sure he's not a he's not a difference maker like Mark
- 19:30Marquez 'cause he's on the GP level, but the World Super Bike
- 19:33level top rack is a very big deal all.
- 19:36Right, all right. So what you're saying he's gonna
- 19:39he's gonna finish top two for the end of the season is what
- 19:42you're you're thinking based? On I'm hoping.
- 19:46He finished top two and won, but the year before, so we're
- 19:49assuming he's. Gonna.
- 19:49I mean Scott Brennan's on a new machine so it's gonna be tough
- 19:55man. A lot of people are out there on
- 19:58new manufacturers. We're we're going to see it's
- 20:00going to be a great year. So like I said I can't wait to
- 20:03see what what we see out of the riders.
- 20:07You know worst road bike starts in is it March or April and then
- 20:14they're off for a whole month The.
- 20:15Schedule I. Think it's March.
- 20:18I think they start in March and then they're off for a full
- 20:21month. Yeah, I think, I think it's
- 20:24March. Hang on one second I or continue
- 20:28on with what you were saying? Yeah, so.
- 20:31So I'm looking forward to see, Like I said, I I like the
- 20:35American Rider girl off his personality and his riding
- 20:40style. He always seems to want to
- 20:42improve every race, you know, obviously you can't get it right
- 20:46all the time. And I mean, he's dying for a
- 20:50podium. And yeah, there there's just and
- 20:56like I said, Jonathan Ray is going to be on a new
- 20:58manufacturer as well. Yeah.
- 21:01So World Super Bike starts in February.
- 21:04So I think it's the last weekend is, is, is, so we don't have
- 21:09long to wait for that and then all the GPS in in March, so you
- 21:15know exciting times. So I'm I'm definitely I think a
- 21:18lot of people are going to be looking forward to that and the
- 21:21other riders that you know could have a say in all that.
- 21:24I mean Piccucci could have a say in it.
- 21:30You know who's on the who's who's the other factory rider
- 21:34this year for Ducati not Bassani because he went to Kawasaki.
- 21:45Yeah. Who's the who's the who's the
- 21:46who's the other rider with a Oh yeah.
- 21:52Yeah. So he moved up from from Super
- 21:55Sport so yeah. So it'll be interesting to see.
- 21:59So it sounds like. He's with Aruba.
- 22:04He's, Yeah, he's. Across from Alvaro, So it'll be
- 22:08interesting to see. It'll be interesting to see what
- 22:10Jonathan Ray does on that Yamaha as well.
- 22:14You know Honda may have a say this year in it because you know
- 22:16they were I mean I think if they got they they get it together
- 22:19they they could finish top six this this year.
- 22:24So and you look at Andrea Noni he has something to prove and
- 22:29that was bad. So you know it.
- 22:34That boy's. On the Ducati now.
- 22:36Yeah, we'll see. I mean with him because I I
- 22:40don't you know it's interesting because he probably because he's
- 22:43been riding the the the the triple for the last for the last
- 22:48few years and I think him adapting to the to the duck
- 22:51might be easier than if he was on an inline 4.
- 22:56So you know we'll we'll you know we'll see what happened.
- 22:58I don't know if he's going to he could he's probably finished top
- 23:0110 you know what I'm saying? I I I think it's fair to say he
- 23:04he could be in the top ten with Ducati but I don't see him being
- 23:08in front of Daniel Petrucci and I'll see him being in front of
- 23:12Andre Noni. I don't you know and and and
- 23:14there's a whole bunch of other riders that that that that you
- 23:18know have been on Ducati for second year.
- 23:20Rinaldi has something to prove. Even though he's on the
- 23:22satellite team this year he's still on the V4 so he knows that
- 23:25bike as well. So, you know, I I like you're
- 23:29saying, you know, World Super Bike is going to be so much fun
- 23:34to watch this year because they they, you know, you can't count.
- 23:39You know, it's like 12 people you can't count out.
- 23:42And I'm just looking at the the names on here, me and I'm sure
- 23:47every season you can say every rider, you can't really count
- 23:50out. But I'm just looking at a lot of
- 23:52riders that's been on the on this grid for a while and just
- 23:58got experience and some are in different manufacturers some
- 24:03have been in Moto GP, been on the World Super Bike.
- 24:05But there's a lot of, for me, familiar names and riders that
- 24:10have a lot of skill, some championships and yeah, always
- 24:16going into the first race it, it determines everything, you know,
- 24:20so try to be mistake free, watch out for little incidents, but
- 24:27you always got to push, so it's going to be interesting.
- 24:29Right. Definitely.
- 24:31And you know before we move on we can't forget to I'll mention
- 24:36that the six rounds we have FI Ms. Women's Championship series
- 24:42kicking off this year. It's going to be pretty cool.
- 24:46It's man listen that that is. Go ahead.
- 24:50No, I'm just, I'm just going off what you're saying.
- 24:52I'm just saying that's pretty cool.
- 24:54Like we get to see like, you know women in a a sport where
- 25:00it's, well, I mean, we're always on their helmet, so you can't
- 25:03really tell. But to to watch where it's just
- 25:06all women, I'll be pretty cool and, you know, goals for them.
- 25:11Right. Yeah.
- 25:12Because you know, I think that you know as far as other teams
- 25:16out there or teams out there, right.
- 25:19I don't know how many teams would have say let's sign you
- 25:22know a woman for their their their ride this year.
- 25:26And it's not to say they're not talented women out there that
- 25:29can't ride because we do see in Caleb the 16 year old here and
- 25:34and you know Molly Dallas who's a Motor America writer who who's
- 25:39moving over to the to the women's cup as well the women's
- 25:42series as well. So you know I think you know the
- 25:47time that we are in having you know a whole different league
- 25:52for for them or a team for them makes sense.
- 25:57But you know they can ride just as well as these other riders.
- 26:01You know you know when you when you look at the the women that
- 26:03are that at the level of model Model 3 and Anna Karaska or or
- 26:10or Molly Dobbs or I forget Maria last name that in in Moto E and
- 26:17I believe she's also in the European league as well.
- 26:20You know, these writers are one of the best writers in the
- 26:23world, you know what I mean? And so I'm looking forward to
- 26:27that as well. Just like, I mean, I watched
- 26:29Moto E in, you know, in Moto GP series as well, you know.
- 26:35So it's going to be fun to see and hopefully it grows to more
- 26:40rounds. I think for now it's going to be
- 26:42at Amula and Mazzano, I believe that's going to be in the UK,
- 26:47Donedon Park, Portuguese round, Hungry round, Italian round as
- 26:52well and Spanish round. So you know, more motorcycle
- 26:58racing can't go wrong. Right.
- 27:01But no, I think this is really big.
- 27:03Like this is like the first year for this as well.
- 27:05I mean you see like a lot of mini Moto to get kids in.
- 27:09I mean, I Mean Girls do ride like I said with the with like
- 27:12the Baggers and and and all the classes but.
- 27:15Right. I believe they have hooligan.
- 27:17I think it's the hooligan class that, yeah.
- 27:20Yeah, they have 66 rounds and like it's a legit a season.
- 27:24I mean it says they have, they have basically a Friday race, a
- 27:35Saturday race and a Sunday race. So the Super pose on Friday.
- 27:39They have a race on Saturday and Sunday.
- 27:41So. 66 rounds of this and I think I think it says that the
- 27:48Yamaha R7 is the only model that they can run, but I'm not 100%
- 27:53sure about that. And.
- 27:56They must be 18 year olders, so that's where is that.
- 27:59I think that's going to be more racing the better, so I'm going
- 28:03to be looking forward to keep my eyes on that as well.
- 28:08Right. Yeah, I think, I think the
- 28:10Yamaha is the only bike, so they'll all be on the same
- 28:12machine. And you know when that happens,
- 28:15you know then it's a, it's a, you know, it's the, it's the
- 28:18rider, right? It's the rider at that point.
- 28:20You know. Yeah, it's the rider, so I can't
- 28:23wait. I'm looking forward to it.
- 28:25I'm excited just as much as I'm excited for our. 7 is not slow
- 28:30either. R7 is not slow either, no.
- 28:35And and who knows where it goes from here because you know they
- 28:39could have a super bike series as well, right?
- 28:42So they got middle weight and then you have heavyweight, so
- 28:44you you. They might might run out of the
- 28:46lower class too, so. Right, exactly.
- 28:48So no, I'm I'm very excited for, for these, for the chance that
- 28:53they're getting to ride and and and ride race at the at the
- 28:56world level. Yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 29:01Does it say what it does say? You did manage to mention it, so
- 29:04June 14th, the first round, right?
- 29:07February for the Women's Cup. Yeah, for the women's cup.
- 29:13Yes, June 14th. Yep, June. 14th.
- 29:16Is is the first round for that And you know speaking Speaking
- 29:20of the world stage what do you think about, I know you you had
- 29:23talked about some comments of the Ducati head guy he's he's
- 29:27he's firing back a little bit at the other manufacturers.
- 29:33I mean, I don't know if he's firing back, but he's just
- 29:36speaking his mind as far as I can see, talking about the
- 29:40concessions that came out a few months back.
- 29:43Basically Ducati's getting the baseline and all the other
- 29:48manufacturers getting something. So from his perspective he
- 29:53doesn't believe that Pro Air or ATM to receive any concessions
- 29:59or as much as they have received due to the fact that they have
- 30:03been on a podium, they haven't as struggled as much as Yamaha
- 30:07and Honda. And basically saying that if if
- 30:12if Ducati goes wrong and they they have a big problem
- 30:16basically. So it's they have to pretty much
- 30:19in their eyes be perfect and be the the leaders from the get and
- 30:25wow Honda already has 22 private tests set up.
- 30:30You know and you know just knowing that KTM in a pro year
- 30:36has done pretty well and they get some of that taste too.
- 30:41So. So I would be fed up too as if I
- 30:44was a team owner. It's just like man, that's what
- 30:47I meant earlier when we was talking about World Super Bike.
- 30:49It's like it's something that they have out for Ducati where
- 30:52they're making all these changes, like give them a chance
- 30:54to let them like dominate for a bit, you know, I mean, they
- 30:58dominate the season, but like you said, Honda and Yamaha years
- 31:03past have have dominated for a while.
- 31:06Hey, listen, Devicioso, Andre, Noni, Nikki Hayden, Rossi, you
- 31:15know riders have suffered on on that duck.
- 31:18Casey Stoner was the only one you know for a well over a
- 31:22decade or so that could ride that bike and he he went to
- 31:26Honda the year after. So you know again you know Honda
- 31:35has done a lot for the sport. Yamaha has done a lot for the
- 31:38sport and and you know, I don't know if that's favoritism or not
- 31:41or you know, this is the game that they play and this is
- 31:44politics. Like you know, like if you look
- 31:46at Formula One, you know, you look at the Netflix series, how
- 31:50these how, how these principles and and team managers and how
- 31:54they talk and go at one another and stuff like that.
- 31:56So, you know, maybe it's just psychological warfare and and
- 32:02and and it's nothing at all. See, it's like you said this.
- 32:08This season for Moto GP is going to be really interesting as
- 32:12well. I don't think any changes have
- 32:14made to like the grids or anything like that or with the
- 32:18sprints, but it's going to be, it's going to be a good year
- 32:23where it's going to. I know halfway through last
- 32:26season they changed up the the practice set up.
- 32:30So this will be a full year where they can kind of like just
- 32:33have that flow down where practice is basically Session 2
- 32:40for them. But yeah, it's it's, I think
- 32:46they can't take any of the practices for granted Now with
- 32:49Ducati, you know, they just got to, they don't have as many
- 32:51tests or anything. They can't really.
- 32:54I mean they, I think they're a better bike.
- 32:56They have so many great riders, have eight bikes.
- 33:00Yeah, I think with eight bikes they just need, you know 11
- 33:03practice practice rounds. Exactly.
- 33:06Just half right. No, you know, I I agree.
- 33:11Hopefully it it is, it is the game.
- 33:14It is the rules. And you know, the NBA, you know,
- 33:17other NFL, they do things to kind of level the playing field
- 33:21a little bit. Sometimes they get it right.
- 33:23Sometimes they get it wrong. Yeah.
- 33:27In this instance, I agree with you.
- 33:28You know they should have just left it alone and and let's see
- 33:32let's see what happens. Let them.
- 33:34You know Honda's money is long. I mean Yamaha, they make, they
- 33:37sell a lot of keyboards. So you know, you know what I
- 33:41mean They they got some dough. So you know the car you have to
- 33:44spend money to get rid of gotten and you know, you know Honda's
- 33:49going to have to spend that money.
- 33:51Now the concessions is who? Who like is it just put out by
- 33:56Dorma Dorma or is it it's like it's.
- 33:59I'm just reading a quote on here it says that they Ducati the
- 34:02manager accepted the concessions because they felt it was
- 34:06important for Yamaha and Honda to to to get you know help.
- 34:12But I. Don't know.
- 34:15Yeah, you know what I mean? Like I said, it's, you know,
- 34:19maybe they they promised them something in the back end.
- 34:21Who knows, you know, for the future, who knows because like I
- 34:29said, I I it's, you know, I I don't know if Ducati had
- 34:33anything to worry about. But none the less, I think they
- 34:36had to, not necessarily had to, but they going along with it
- 34:39because you know it's it's still going to take Honda a couple of
- 34:45years to get that bike back. It's still, I don't think this
- 34:50season is going to, I don't think they going to win a
- 34:53championship at the end of this season.
- 34:55I think next year they probably will be a top.
- 34:57We'll see how this year go. We'll see what Luca Marini can
- 35:00do and soccer can do because I think those two guys are the
- 35:03guys that's going to build that bike.
- 35:06I don't Joanne Mayer, you know he's coming from Suzuki and he's
- 35:10bringing his experience from Suzuki.
- 35:12So I mean and that Suzuki's return, so that's what he's
- 35:16bringing. And Takanakagami, he's been with
- 35:18Honda forever so he doesn't know another bike.
- 35:21So really I think they're going to lean on Luca and and Zarco a
- 35:25lot too, especially since they they've had you know 2 1/2, well
- 35:29three years for Zarco I believe and I think 3 years for Luca 2
- 35:32or maybe 2. And so they have that to come
- 35:36and maybe they hoping that they do what Jack Miller did for KTM
- 35:41to put KTM in the top five, you know bike, right.
- 35:45So you know that's what they're hoping.
- 35:47But it's also a as, as as the Ducati guys have said, it's
- 35:55sharing that data. It's working together.
- 35:57It's listening to the riders. So it's not just you know they
- 36:00they still have to do that part and and if if, if Honda or
- 36:05Yamaha, well Yamaha has two bikes on the grid but if Honda
- 36:09can't do that I I it's going to take a little longer.
- 36:16Me and like, I want to see like their data log sheet and what it
- 36:20looks like. You know, it's because you know,
- 36:24like weather comes into play, what type of ride.
- 36:28I just want to see what their data log sheet is for like a
- 36:31specific track. I don't know, just over like the
- 36:35course of like the past 10 years.
- 36:36I don't know right exactly. Pretty interesting it.
- 36:40It it would be I. Mean tires change every year
- 36:42too, so. And and I think I I think is it
- 36:47Moto GP that's changing tire manufacturers this year or World
- 36:51Super Bike. I I I I think one of them would
- 36:55change in tire manufacturers this year as as well.
- 36:59So it'd be very interesting if they're if I, I don't, I don't
- 37:03know off the top of my head of this Moto GP, but it'd be very
- 37:06interesting if if that happens. We have to mention that another
- 37:10episode and do some research on that.
- 37:12That's pretty interesting. I I know Moto GP gets special
- 37:15tires because of the wear and tear in the corners of tracks
- 37:19and get the the good ones, but not sure if they're changing
- 37:24manufacturers but definitely tire data is.
- 37:29I don't know. I'm curious also what do you
- 37:31think the most important data spec is if you're a rider like
- 37:43gearing tire tires? I mean, they all come into play,
- 37:46but I don't know, I'm just seeing your opinion, what you
- 37:48think through your most important.
- 37:51I would say tires, tires 1st and and and then suspension and you
- 37:58know at that level, right. I mean when you when you talking
- 38:00about a track, a street track, a track day bike, stock bike,
- 38:04you're going to put some tires on 1st and then you're going to
- 38:06stop playing with your suspension, you might start
- 38:08playing with brakes out of that. As far as as far as technology,
- 38:12well I can't speak on that cause none of my bikes got tech.
- 38:15I mean like KTMRC that has a little bit of tech in it, but.
- 38:20Well, that's why I would need that, that Ducati data.
- 38:23But like I don't, I don't need to test all these tires out,
- 38:25just tell me what you got and then you narrow my margins down.
- 38:30But yeah, tires for sure. And then obviously suspension,
- 38:34that's what we all do as a main setup anyway.
- 38:38But it's just getting up to speed to where the other guys
- 38:42are, so you don't have to figure out a set up, you can just get
- 38:46out there and just and go so. Right, so it is Moto 2 and Moto
- 38:50Three are going from Dunlop to Pirelli off of 2024.
- 38:54So that that's that's what it is.
- 38:57No end like that. Huh.
- 38:59Pirelli guy. Yeah, you know I'm starting to
- 39:02become a pearly guy too. I I run Pearly Pearly on RC but
- 39:06not on the not on my my R6 yet it's you know.
- 39:12Yeah, I switched the Pirellis because I was running
- 39:16Bridgestones as if anyone didn't know like two years ago and and
- 39:20no one had them. So I would literally have to
- 39:23order them online and just there's too much, too much to
- 39:26deal with And the price, everybody's running Dunlop.
- 39:30So Pirellis, I switched the Pirellis.
- 39:33They've been treating me well. Nice.
- 39:35Speaking of of local stuff, schedules are out for track days
- 39:41and our, you know racing clubs got their schedules out for 20
- 39:45fives 2024. So I've seen some people already
- 39:49posting, you know, their track day and and their race schedule
- 39:53for the year. I saw one guy had like, I mean I
- 39:56had like 3030 dates. Has he rented the track that
- 40:01much? Man, listen, I wish I had that,
- 40:04that many dates. I would, I would love it.
- 40:06Love to be at the track that much.
- 40:08So definitely get your schedules together because it's right
- 40:12around the corner. You know, February for me
- 40:14probably. I probably will be racing, I'm
- 40:19doing track day, definitely February, but I might race as
- 40:22well. We shall see some.
- 40:24That's a couple weeks, whatever you're going to say next month.
- 40:27No, no, listen like 2 1/2 like 3 weeks, 3 weekends from now
- 40:30because it's the first weekend in February.
- 40:32So, so it's back for you. Like I can't say the same.
- 40:36I I I mean I could choose to go down there if I can get my funds
- 40:40right, but we'll see. But I know I can.
- 40:43I still have a couple months, like two or three weeks.
- 40:45That's just like when you end a race weekend and you got another
- 40:48round in a couple weeks, like, yeah.
- 40:51No, I yeah, I think so. I'm, I'm hoping and we'll see
- 40:55because I'm I'm trying to get out of this.
- 40:57It's going to be a tricky year for me.
- 40:59But you know, I'm planning on the first weekend right now and
- 41:04then and then I'm looking at some stuff in March.
- 41:07So definitely, you know, get your schedule worked out, get
- 41:12your maintenance done on your bike or if you haven't already,
- 41:15maintenance done on your trailer.
- 41:17If you if you haven't already, you know if you're if you're
- 41:20bumped up, get you get your new, you know numbers and get them on
- 41:24the bike. So that way, you know when it's
- 41:27when it's like 3 weeks, 2 weeks left, you just got to just wait
- 41:29it out and that's it. Easier said than done, but
- 41:34that's the plan. That's the plan for.
- 41:36Me that's that's that's the plan, man.
- 41:38It's this, you know, it is what it is because you know you have
- 41:42to do it and you know if it's last.
- 41:44I mean, you know, I guess you can scramble around last minute
- 41:46to get stuff done. But you know it's it's, you
- 41:49know, it's a little hectic. And you know, if you got to wait
- 41:53for stuff and you know you don't want to, you know you don't need
- 41:55to, you know, go kick rocks because you have, you have to
- 41:58wait for a part to come in. Or you know somebody's just
- 42:01really booked up and you have to, you know, wait, you know a
- 42:03little bit longer and you know you don't want to be picking up
- 42:06your bike the day before race. Who wants to drive to New York
- 42:10for one boat? Exactly.
- 42:14You know what I mean. That type of thing so.
- 42:16That was a mess, man. I mean, I'll never forget that
- 42:20time last year. You were so ready because we
- 42:22were talking about it. You're so ready.
- 42:24And then something happened where something didn't fit.
- 42:27And then you needed that boat. And then you find yourself
- 42:29scrambling. Yep, pretty much.
- 42:32And it's it's like, you know, back and forth to the
- 42:34dealership. You know, it is what it is.
- 42:36I mean, there's worse things to complain about.
- 42:38But you know, it's nice to be as prepared as you can be.
- 42:41As we say that you know, you know sponsorships.
- 42:44If you if you haven't locked them in yet, lock them in.
- 42:47Because as far as you know, reach out.
- 42:50Because you know every little bit helps and you know if you're
- 42:54if you're if you're right, if you're racing or riding and
- 42:57you're taking footage and you're posting on social media already,
- 43:01then just reach out for some sponsors, the possible sponsors,
- 43:05and and see what you can get. Let them know what you're doing,
- 43:07show them what you're doing and and see what happens.
- 43:12The sport is growing my eyes, but it's, you know, get all your
- 43:17stuff together and all your tools and just like you're going
- 43:22away on vacation, just be ready to just go when it's the first
- 43:25time and maybe should be in routine.
- 43:29Right. And the last thing is that
- 43:30fitness, right, man, How's that coming along?
- 43:34Indoor, indoor fitness. Right now I like to do fitness
- 43:37outdoor so I'm gonna try to get more bike riding in like actual
- 43:42bike riding at stationary once this cold freeze goes away.
- 43:48Hopefully like middle February, so.
- 43:51I'm. Going to try to get outside more
- 43:54but try to do more fitness for sure leading up to race season
- 44:01and all the way through. So because you we all know like
- 44:07towards the end of the year you start to burn out a little bit.
- 44:10Yeah, definitely. You burn out, you don't have
- 44:12enough time to work out all that stuff.
- 44:14So you've lost some muscle mass, you've lost some energy, and you
- 44:18have to adjust to that. You know what I mean?
- 44:20As the season progresses, so you really, whatever your offseason
- 44:23is, you know, that's your time to bulk up and to be as strong,
- 44:26as agile or whatever as you can be.
- 44:28Because once the season happens, it starts up.
- 44:31You know, it's in fact, if you're driving back and forth,
- 44:34you're not going to be coming home working out.
- 44:36You're going to need, you're going to need a day or two to
- 44:38recover and all that stuff. A couple of days.
- 44:40You get older, you get, you might need a few more days than
- 44:42that. So you know what I mean.
- 44:45And as you know when the season starts the like we were just
- 44:47talking about the next round's a couple weeks after that.
- 44:50So if you have a few days of recover you just like work out
- 44:56so. No doubt.
- 44:57Good to start early no doubt. So you know, I think, I think
- 45:03that's about it. TJ, man, you want to shout out
- 45:06your sponsors. I will say one thing before you
- 45:08shout out your sponsors. We do have some news to be
- 45:12forever cool and and Motor America, we're we're going to be
- 45:17talking about that in a few weeks.
- 45:18So keep it locked for that. Also, the trivias continue to
- 45:23answer those trivia questions. Shout out to the winners.
- 45:26You know it is, it is pretty cool and the merch is pretty
- 45:29cool. So as you can see, that's
- 45:31definitely cool. So you know, definitely, you
- 45:35know, keep it locked. For sure.
- 45:38I mean I just like to shout out to Boy Nick Trophy where he's
- 45:43going to put on some track days at New York Safety track.
- 45:47I can post the dates and have more information about that on
- 45:52another video, but I'm trying to get that message out there.
- 45:56If you anyone wants to do some track days, about four track
- 46:00days coming up, I think it's April, you know, every month
- 46:06pretty much all the way up until August, so.
- 46:09So how so? How can people find out about
- 46:11that? They reach out to you on your
- 46:13social How? How?
- 46:15Can I? Yeah, you can reach out to to me
- 46:17on Two Wheels and Coffee or TJ Bike Life on Instagram or if you
- 46:22have my Facebook and again I'll I will make sure I have
- 46:27information about that for future videos to come and I'll
- 46:34tag Nick also in that video. Just trying to get everyone out
- 46:38there to have some fun at a track day that we're trying to
- 46:41support and always like the support from Woodcraft
- 46:44Technologies, J&G Performance, Hideaway Rentals and Vortex.
- 46:50All right, there you have it shouted to Hamden Yard.
- 46:55Be forever cool. Go to hamdenyard.com or HY
- 46:58boston.com. Get your be forever cool gear.
- 47:01Be forever cool merch. I think that's my only sponsor
- 47:04this year so far, TJ. I have to get my applications
- 47:10in. Hey, whatever.
- 47:13Everything counts and you know, I I figured that all my friends
- 47:18and family are sponsors too. So I I get a lot of, a lot of
- 47:22support from everybody. So if I don't get any other
- 47:27sponsors, I'm not counting on anyone, but I know the support's
- 47:30there, so. There you have it, man.
- 47:32My name is Rex 45. My name is TJ with two wheels
- 47:36and coffee. Peace.
