- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, fam?
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Steep Stuff Podcast.
- 0:02Speaker 1: I'm your host, james Lauriello, and today I've got something special for you guys, bringing you all the 13th edition, or 13th episode, of the Sub Stuff this week in Sub Ultra.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We've got lots to dive into, lots to talk about.
- 0:14Speaker 1: This past weekend we did get into the Golden Trail World Series Final, so we're going to kind of dissect that.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We're going to talk about the prologue, we're going to talk about the final results and we're going to talk about the final rankings as well.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Get ready to hear a list of a bunch of names, some repetitive, some not.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So, yeah, we're going to wrap up the Golden Trail World Series.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I can't believe it's already October, mid to late October.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We're putting kind of the cap on the Golden Trail Series for next year.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Can't wait to find out and see what races they're going to want to pick in for the 2025 edition.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We're also going to get into the 17th stop on the Skyrunner World Series, which is going to be the Two Peak Sky Race, taking place this upcoming weekend, october 26, in South Korea.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's going to be another barn burner as well.
- 0:59Speaker 1: We've got some American friends heading on out to go race that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It should be a lot of fun.
- 1:03Speaker 1: All right, so let's get into it.
- 1:05Speaker 1: We're going to start with the Golden Trail World Series final.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I think you guys are going to be pretty excited to hear about what went down.
- 1:12Speaker 1: For those of you who didn't follow along, this race took place last week, october 17th through the 20th.
- 1:17Speaker 1: The location was absolutely stunning.
- 1:20Speaker 1: This beautiful area of Switzerland called and I'm going to butcher this, it's called Ascona Larkano, switzerland.
- 1:27Speaker 1: For those of you who are unaware of that area, it actually sits on this beautiful lake called Lake Maggiore, which kind of also resides on the Italian border.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So it's kind of the shared southern Switzerland slash Italian border.
- 1:42Speaker 1: South of the Alps it's in the southern region of Switzerland.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So when you uh, south of the Alps, um, it's in the Southern region of Switzerland.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So when you think about it on the map, the closer major cities are cities like Milan.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Um, in fact, you probably saw some of the golden trail series athletes, especially now as we're kind of getting out of the weekend um, we're taking photos in Milan and posting that on their social media.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So Milan's very close.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Uh, there's just some beautiful areas.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Lake Como is not far away.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's like one of the most beautiful areas of the world.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I can't brag enough about just how cool this area is.
- 2:11Speaker 1: For those of you who also are unaware, the 30, I'd say it's more than 30.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It was 30 plus of the top women and men were invited to go compete at this race.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Some of them were national series contenders as well, which was pretty cool to have kind of a big mix.
- 2:26Speaker 1: The other thing that I thought was interesting and unique is that they actually opened up for the first time the final to anyone who wanted to compete.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So if you had the means and the ability to get out there and compete and you were not an elite athlete, the prologue and the final were actually available for everyone to sign up and go compete in race, which was pretty dope.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think that was neat.
- 2:45Speaker 1: That they kind of opened up accessibility for a lot of people made it a little more fun.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Let's chat schedule.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So they kind of broke it up between the men and the women, which I thought was kind of unique.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Like I said, it took place October 17th through the 20th.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Starting that, thursday October 17th was that women's prologue.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Friday, october the 18th was the men's prologue.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Saturday the 19th started the women's elite race, which was at 1135 AM I know a very obscure time and Sunday, october the 20th, was the men's race at 1135 AM Also a very strange time, but pretty cool the way they broke it up, so the women could race their own race and the men can race their own race.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I thought that was a little more unique and fun.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I kind of like this model.
- 3:28Speaker 1: This is something the Headlands race did as well, as well as Mammoth.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Like I said, they kind of just broke everything up to make it a little more fun.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I know we've had some podcast conversations in the past where this was kind of a hot button debate and topic, where you know they would have this mass start where everybody would start together and then kind of the elite women would get bunched up with kind of like back of the front pack to mid pack men and it kind of just created, kind of just slowed down the women's race.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So I think it's a little more fun that we have and just like way more exciting to follow along an individual women's race and an individual men's race.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Just it's better to have them separated, in my opinion, and I think this should be something we maybe consider adopting going into the future.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So let's talk about the prologue.
- 4:12Speaker 1: The prologue itself, point-wise, was scored as kind of half a Golden Trail Series race For those of you who are unaware of the Golden Trail Series race, for the individual ones, the ones that are not the final and not the prologue.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So, like your Marathon du Mont Blanc, if you will, or your Mammoth Trail Fest, scored out of 200 points, so if you win you get 200.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So the way the prologue worked, if you won you got 100, because it's like a third to a half of an actual Golden Trail Series race.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And then the final itself same thing, both men and women.
- 4:41Speaker 1: If you win, 300 points, so it kind of gives you an extra boost.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So a lot of opportunities with the prologue to really kind of make it or break it.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Um, for those of that weren't going to go super hard in the prologue and maybe save it for the final.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Um, that's a strategy.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And then there was a lot of strategy as well as going super hard for both.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That seemed like what a lot of people did.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Um, those as well, that kind of just like cooked it for the prologue and got themselves some extra points, which was pretty dope.
- 5:08Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about the prologue course.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It was a couple loops.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It was like kind of this loopy thing, similar to the final course, just much shorter Seven kilometers with 400 meters of climbing.
- 5:21Speaker 1: For those Americans listening to this, that translates to about 4.3 miles with about 1,312 feet of vertical gain.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Like I said, the women's prologue took place on Thursday, october 17th.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I think I've said that for the third time now.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And yeah, let's get into the top 10.
- 5:38Speaker 1: None other in first place than Miss Joyce Nauru absolute beast athlete, first place going into this.
- 5:44Speaker 1: She was sitting in first place in the Golden Trailauru Absolute beast athlete, first place Going into this.
- 5:46Speaker 1: She was sitting in first place in the Golden Trail Series ranking.
- 5:48Speaker 1: She took the win.
- 5:49Speaker 1: You probably were familiar with that name for her taking the win at the Mammoth Trail Fest as well as the win at the Headlands 27K Also a big name in America too, from winning Broken Arrow.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I believe she took the win at the VK this year as well as the 23K.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So Joyce is just an absolute beast, amazing athlete.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Took the win, team Athletica Saluzzo, in 31 minutes 37 seconds.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So big shout out to Joyce there.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And second place was Lauren Gregory, kind of a new name to the scene but absolutely lighting the world on fire.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Really exciting to see her kind of I don't want to say coming out of nowhere, because that's not really true.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I mean, lauren Gregg has got some stellar results but just over the course of the last year or two she's really kind of like made a name for herself.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Nike athlete, taking second place in the prologue in 3207.
- 6:40Speaker 1: In third place was Madalena Floria Solomon, athlete from Romania.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Uh, absolutely beast athlete, probably arguably the best marathoner in this entire um race series, which is pretty cool.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Uh, took third place in 3,214.
- 6:55Speaker 1: In fourth place was dual sport athlete Sophia Lockley.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Uh, from team Solomon, 32, eight, 32, 18,.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Uh, madalena Madalena Floria, I might've misspoke was 3,214.
- 7:06Speaker 1: In fifth place was Judith Wider, the Hoka athlete, one of the greatest to ever do it in 32-38.
- 7:12Speaker 1: In sixth place was Sarah Alonzo, from the Basque Country, for Team Asics, in 33-10.
- 7:18Speaker 1: In seventh place was Allie Ostrander, the athlete for Normal, another American in 33-36.
- 7:25Speaker 1: In eighth place was Anna Gibson from Team Brooks, residing I think she lives in Mill Valley California now, but formerly the Teton Valley, miss Anna Gibson in 34-29.
- 7:35Speaker 1: In ninth place was Naomi Lang, again from Team Solomon, in 34-33.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And in 10th place was F Van Dogen from Team VJ Shoes in 34-47.
- 7:50Speaker 1: So, guys, just kind of reflecting on some of these top times, I mean if you did the math on the top five I know we don't like to do public math on the steep stuff podcast but top five were within 59 seconds.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So about a minute of one another, which is absolute bananas.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like Joyce had probably the most dominant time in 313 pretty, pretty crazy.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But that gap between lauren, gregory and judith was a matter of 31 seconds, uh, between second through fifth, which is this absolute banana.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So just goes to show you the level that we're on when it comes to these races and then just the level of the talent that shows up and just how beastly athletic these ladies are.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Just absolutely crushing it.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Um, yeah, even the back half, I mean first through 10th was separated by less than three minutes.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So that goes to show you just how, uh, there is no room for error here.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Let's win these prologues.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Um, lots of really cool stuff to follow along.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I think golden trail world series did a really good job.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Uh, they have this like private instagram chat, um that they will send kind of updates on what's going on, and on top of that, they even do some fun stuff as well with their reels where you can kind of just follow along the action.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's a little bit easier than kind of following along on their website.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Their websites a little bit slower to update, so like it's pretty fun to kind of get these updates through their Instagram channel.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It seems to be the best way, yeah, so pretty cool One thing I don't want to miss out on, as well as the Golden Trail National Series.
- 9:15Speaker 1: After the prologue, the ranking for the Golden Trail National Series was as follows for the top three, american Sarah Carter took first place for the Golden Trail National Series overall in 3505.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I don't know what her time was as far as how that relates to overall.
- 9:31Speaker 1: My guess would have been given top 10.
- 9:35Speaker 1: She's probably in the top 15 to top 20.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And second place was Jel Morales from Mexico in 3508.
- 9:41Speaker 1: So just three seconds behind Sarah Carter.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And in third place was Veronica Matuszewski from Poland in 3510.
- 9:50Speaker 1: So literally just five seconds separating the top three.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Golden National, golden Trial National Series ladies, so pretty, pretty epic, pretty stellar, really fun to follow along.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Okay, so we're going to get into the men's prologue.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Similar to the ladies race, this was a bar and burner as well.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I mean just watching these dudes throw down, just absolute tip of the spear for our sport, so just really fun.
- 10:14Speaker 1: The men's prologue like I said the ladies took place on Thursday, october 17th, so the men were the following day, friday, october 18th 2024.
- 10:22Speaker 1: We'll get into the top 10 right now.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So first place was none other than Mr El Housine Alassio, something like that.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Sorry, el Housine um.
- 10:31Speaker 1: As a Louis Alasio, something like that.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Sorry, el Housine uh.
- 10:32Speaker 1: From team normal um in 25 minutes 49 seconds.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Absolutely smoking that course.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Um.
- 10:38Speaker 1: In second place was none other than Remy Bonet um from Switzerland, team Solomon, in 26, 13,.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Arguably the best, if not one of the best in the world, which is kind of crazy.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Um and Remy's won the Golden Trail Series the last two years in a row, so there was a little bit of drama going into this one, with Remy really searching for finally getting a win.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I know he's had a kind of a struggle this season.
- 11:01Speaker 1: In third place was the pride of Kenya, mr Patrick Iponjango, from Team On, run Together in 26 minutes 40 seconds.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Patrick is just like one of the most efficient runners I've ever watched run in my entire life.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Really look up to him in a lot of ways and it was really fun to see him come out here and compete.
- 11:19Speaker 1: These guys have had such long seasons.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, I showed up to the start line my season is not now.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I got one more thing, but just crazy, showing up to the start line of Cirque series, brighton and looking over my left shoulder and seeing Patrick Kipaniego as well as Philemon Kiriego, and that was back on June 29th, and that was not the first race these guys had done.
- 11:38Speaker 1: They had already been two Golden Trail Series races deep, doing the race in Japan as well as the race in China, which was, I think, like April May time frame ish Plus Broken Arrow that I believe Patrick and Philemon had done.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I think like April May time frame-ish plus Broken Arrow that I believe Patrick and Phil Amon had done.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I think it was like the week before.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So it's just so crazy to see, just like how fit these guys are and how they can just extend these seasons.
- 12:00Speaker 1: My guys got to be pooped out.
- 12:02Speaker 1: They got to be tired.
- 12:03Speaker 1: This is wild.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Okay, before I, I got to stop my rambling.
- 12:08Speaker 1: In fourth place was Kevin Kibat, again another Kenyan in 2707.
- 12:13Speaker 1: In fifth place was another Swiss runner, mr Roberto DeLorenzi from team Brooks in 2735.
- 12:20Speaker 1: And that's another name you guys might recognize.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Roberto's had quite a long season.
- 12:24Speaker 1: The dude has literally showed up to everything, not just being at the top of the game in the golden trail series but also at the top of the game in the sky Trail series, but also at the top of the game in the Skyrunner World Series.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So competing in both sets of races yeah, he's been.
- 12:34Speaker 1: He's had another one.
- 12:35Speaker 1: That's had a super long season.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And sixth place was the fastest mullet in the Wasatch Nike athlete, mr Christian Allen, absolute beast in 2753.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And seventh place was Daniel Pettis from Team Brooks and 28 flat.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And eighth place was Joey Hattis from Team Brooks in 28 flat.
- 12:52Speaker 1: In eighth place was Joey Hadaran from Team Solomon, also in 28 flat.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I would have imagined the milliseconds came down to separate Daniel from Joey.
- 13:00Speaker 1: In ninth place was Mr Philomon Curiego from Team On Run Together in 2808.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And in 10th place was Emmanuel Interofer from Team Solomon in 2809.
- 13:17Speaker 1: All right, so let's talk national series as well.
- 13:18Speaker 1: First place for the national series was Austrian athlete Emmanuel Interofer took 10th overall in that 2809 spot.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And second place was Juho Lehn um from finland and sorry, I butchered that name buddy in 28 53.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And then third place was liam miro uh, nike athlete from the united states, in 28 15.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Big shout out to liam.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Um, just absolute crusher from the pacific northwest.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Um.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Guys also want to give another shout out to local, formerly local athlete when I say local, formerly like local to the Colorado Springs, manitou Springs.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Now resides in the Tahoe area, but Mr Ali Papalan, u23 athlete I'm not sure what his placement was, but he did run himself 31-32, which is pretty solid.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Ali, as well as his brother Bodhi I believe it's their father, dorian Big shout out to them.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Just three of the hardest workers I have ever seen in my life, especially on the incline.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I used to see these guys just absolutely crushing workouts on the incline, like daily um, very efficient uphill runners, incredible athletes and I'm very excited to see where all these able to take his career.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Um, he had a top finish, as well as Bodie this year at the Mount marathon race and these guys just know how to run uphill just absolute beasts.
- 14:32Speaker 1: So big shout out to them.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Really cool to see some younger guys out there mixing it up with these older folks.
- 14:42Speaker 1: All right, let's talk final.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So the final course, 23.5 kilometers, was like this funky looped course, I would have gotten lost because, yeah, it was like this funky looped course.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I would have gotten lost because, yeah, it just looked kind of crazy, kind of wild.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So, like I said, 23.5k with 1,400 meters of climbing.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That translates into 14.6 miles with about 5,000 feet of vertical gain.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So a proper mountain race.
- 15:06Speaker 1: This isn't flat by any means.
- 15:09Speaker 1: The women's final took place this past Saturday, october the 19th, 2024.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Let's get into the top 10.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Pretty, pretty solid racing and some dominance as well.
- 15:20Speaker 1: In first place was Jolene Chippenego from Team Milamani Runners Took the win in two hours eight minutes 40 seconds.
- 15:35Speaker 1: In second place was Lauren Gregory, again second place at the prologue, second place at the final.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Lauren Gregory from Team Nike took second place in 213.01, followed very closely by none other than Golden Trail World Series leader in the points.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Miss Joyce Nauru from Team Athletic Salzio took third place in 2.13.31.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So literally 30 seconds just behind Lauren.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Look how fast we do that public math on the Steep Stuff podcast.
- 16:02Speaker 1: In fourth place was Miss Judith Wider, one of the greatest to ever do it, from Team Hoka, in 2.13.58.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Not sure how close you guys followed along, but I think one of the reasons Judith kind of fell back was she took a really nasty fall.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I don't know how early or how late it was in the race, but she took a really nasty fall.
- 16:20Speaker 1: But one of the things that really stuck out to me and was obviously was very unfortunate for her to take a fall just exciting about how much I love the sport was like two other ladies stopped their race completely to help Judith up and help her to her feet and get her back to racing and I was just like man, dude, that sportsmanship, that's something you just don't get in a lot of other sports.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So really fun to see that and just exciting and yeah, I love the sportsmanship in our sport and pretty, pretty, pretty badass.
- 16:50Speaker 1: In fifth place was Sarah Alonzo from the Basque Country for Team Asics in 2014-08.
- 16:56Speaker 1: In sixth place was Sophia Lauchley from Team Solomon in 2014-40.
- 17:02Speaker 1: In seventh was Naomi Lang from Team Solomon in 2017-52.
- 17:05Speaker 1: So, as you can see, there's a lot of crossover between the prologue and the final.
- 17:09Speaker 1: A lot of the same women that placed in that top 10 section in the prologue and the final.
- 17:13Speaker 1: A lot of the same women that placed in that top 10 section, also placed in the prologue, also placed top 10 in the final.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And eighth place was Aurea Lauchi, from team I'm not even going to pronounce it because I would butcher it, cab something 21827.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And ninth place was Malin Oza, household name from team Solomon in 2205.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Really interesting.
- 17:27Speaker 1: One of the things I really admired about Malin wasza, household name from team Solomon in two, 2005.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Um, really interesting.
- 17:33Speaker 1: One of the things I really admired about Malin was she kind of shut down a lot of her season, Um, and the reason was was to get ready for the final, get, get, get, get herself healthy.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Uh, and Sophia kind of did a lot of the same, was just kind of, you know, very vocal about shutting down their season.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Uh, maybe mid, maybe a little early, mid to halfway through Um, and just getting healthy for the final because they'd already qualified and kind of being able to bring their best self out.
- 18:00Speaker 1: In 10th place was Meryl Runner, an American, miss Rachel Tomciak from the US, in two hours 20 minutes, 14 seconds and yeah, that kind of rounds out the top 10.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Let's get into the men now.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So the men taking place on sunday uh, big shocker here, sunday, october 20th 2024, the big shocker, el huzin, again took the win.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Uh, from team normal in one hour 50 minutes and 19 seconds, followed very closely behind by remy bonet, um one hour 50 minutes 58 seconds.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So not a whole lot of daylight surround between El Housine and Remy pretty crazy.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And third place was Patrick Patrick Kimaniego from Team On Run, together in 150-101.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And fourth place was Milamani Runners team mate, mr Timothy Kibet, from 153.07.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And fifth place was Phil Amon from Team On Run, together in 154.04.
- 18:59Speaker 1: So third through sixth was all Kenyan runners, which is pretty dope.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Phil Amon, like I said, took fifth in 154.04.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Robert Kemboy from Team Jomba 155.45.
- 19:11Speaker 1: And seventh place was Daniel Pattis from Team Brooks, in 155 45.
- 19:13Speaker 1: And seventh place was daniel pattis from team brooks and 155, 47 um.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And eighth place was our fastest mullet in the wasatch nike athlete, mr christian allen, and 155 51.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And ninth place was roberto di lorenzi from team brooks.
- 19:25Speaker 1: No surprise there.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Um, super like, super consistent athlete.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Uh, 158, 22.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And in 10th place was, uh, ellen Santa Maria Blanco from team Solomon and one 58, 31.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Um, one of the things I just found so incredible was that if you look through the results, um, just so many like Kenyan athletes just absolutely coming onto the scene and finishing in the top tens of these races and I just think it's really fun, really inspiring and just super exciting to see, see the direction our sport is going and just how many new entrants we have, because that was not the case a few years ago.
- 19:58Speaker 1: So really cool.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what is it.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Third through sixth place on the men's side was all was Kenyon athletes.
- 20:05Speaker 1: So the sport is growing Very exciting.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk women and men final rankings.
- 20:12Speaker 1: So the way this works is if you win the final, from my understanding it's 3,000 euros.
- 20:19Speaker 1: If you win the final, if you win the rankings, I think the bonus for the first place in the rankings was 15,000 euro.
- 20:28Speaker 1: So you had a chance.
- 20:30Speaker 1: If you won the final and if you win the overall rankings, you're walking out with 18 plus thousand euro, which is pretty dope.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Good payday, not too bad.
- 20:39Speaker 1: In first place was Joyce Nauru on the women.
- 20:41Speaker 1: She took home that 15,000 plus race bonus for getting third, winning the prologue and then winning third in the final race.
- 20:52Speaker 1: In second place was Judith Wider.
- 20:53Speaker 1: In third place was Malin Osa.
- 20:56Speaker 1: In fourth was Mao Yao.
- 20:58Speaker 1: In fifth was Anna Gibson.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Anna Gibson, I believe that's the top American for the final rankings, which is pretty crazy.
- 21:06Speaker 1: So shout out to Anna Gibson.
- 21:07Speaker 1: In sixth place was Madalena Floria.
- 21:09Speaker 1: In seventh place, right behind, was Lauren Gregory, making a serious name for herself this year.
- 21:16Speaker 1: In eighth place was Oriol Lauchi.
- 21:17Speaker 1: In ninth was Therese Lebeau.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Therese Lebeau is, I believe, a Swiss athlete from Team Compress Sport.
- 21:24Speaker 1: In tenth place was Sarah Alonso, a6 athlete from the Basque Country.
- 21:31Speaker 1: All right, the men men ranking the men's rankings.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Excuse me.
- 21:34Speaker 1: In the first place was El Hussein, taking home the 18 plus thousand euro bonus.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Good for him.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Dude made some dough.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Go buy himself something cool.
- 21:47Speaker 1: In second place was Patrick Kipaniego.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Third place was Remy Bonet, which is the lowest Remy has finished in a final ranking in now, I think, like four, three or four years.
- 21:58Speaker 1: So we will see, hopefully we'll see if Remy maybe was battling some injury.
- 22:03Speaker 1: We'll see if he'll be back next year to compete at the high level again.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And fourth was Philemon Curiego.
- 22:08Speaker 1: And fifth was Daniel Pettis from Team Brooks.
- 22:10Speaker 1: And sixth was Roberto DiLorenzi from Team Brooks.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And seventh place was Bart Pedraluski.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And eighth was Joey Halderon.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And ninth place was Elian Santamaria Blanco.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And in 10th place was Christian Allen.
- 22:25Speaker 1: So big shout out to Christian.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I believe that's the top American.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Yes, christian was the top American in the final ranking.
- 22:31Speaker 1: So we got an American in there in the top American.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yes, christian was the top American in the final ranking, so we got an American in there in the top 10 for the males.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And a big shout out to two American ladies, anna Gibson and Lauren Gregory, for being in the top 10 in the women.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So the ladies are crushing it All right.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So that's the Golden Trail World Series guys wrapped up and tied in a bow, and we're going to find out what happens for next year.
- 22:53Speaker 1: We'll see what races they announce, um, and who, what they're going to wind up doing for the future.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Um, it'll be, it'll be fun.
- 23:01Speaker 1: No, no doubt I'm curious to see if they're going to be announcing like an early season schedules, all that they did last year, like some april may races, which would be kind of fun.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Um, I really liked what they did last year with kind of the I don't think it was the, I forget what it was called, not the twin sister, maybe it was twin sisters.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Uh, one, there was one race in Japan and one race in China and I thought it was pretty cool that they were able to kind of execute those and get those off the ground.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Um, really fun and I think the athletes took a lot away from from those races as well.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk.
- 23:30Speaker 1: We're going to pivot over to the Skyrunner World Series.
- 23:34Speaker 1: We've got a race taking place this upcoming weekend and the reason I'm covering this is because we've got some American friends that are going to be racing this as well, as we haven't really talked about the Skyrunner World Series in a little while.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So when I get that out there to the world because there's some, some cool races in a lot of different countries, not just in Europe so this one's called the Two Peaks Sky Race.
- 23:56Speaker 1: It's going to be taking place this Saturday, october the 26th 2024.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It's going to be in the Youngman Alps that it's very close to Young man, but I don't know if that's right.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It's taking place in South Korea, in this area called Yulu County in South Korea.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I think it's pretty close to outside of Seoul, but don't quote me on that.
- 24:19Speaker 1: The course itself is 26K, with 2,080 meters of climbing.
- 24:24Speaker 1: That translates to about 16 miles, with just south of 17,000 feet of vertical.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So this is a proper mountain race.
- 24:30Speaker 1: This is a proper, proper sky race.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Um, this course looks beautiful, looks steep, looks technical, looks very engaging.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Um, yeah, this is.
- 24:39Speaker 1: This is a cool one.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I'm glad we, uh I'm glad they mix it up and put these races and, like you know, some of them were in Thailand, we've had one in Malaysia coming up, they had one in South Korea.
- 24:48Speaker 1: It's just like beautiful, really unique, fun places in the world.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So, yeah, pretty exciting that they're doing this.
- 24:54Speaker 1: We're going to talk about the women's favorites First, but not first.
- 24:59Speaker 1: We're going to get into a friend of the podcast, Miss Rio Townsend, the American formerly of Colorado Springs, now residing in Hawaii.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Check out episode 33 of the steep stuff podcast with our conversation with Rio.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Uh, the Dina fit um, the Dina fit ambassador is going to be taken on this race.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I'm really excited for her to uh do this.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I think this is her second race for the U 23, uh, sky runner world series.
- 25:23Speaker 1: So once she gets um finishes this one up, um, they will have a invitation to the U 23 final, which is going to be taking place in November, which is pretty exciting.
- 25:34Speaker 1: So big shout out to Rio Townsend.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Um.
- 25:37Speaker 1: In addition, anastasia Rubstova, I believe the Russian athlete is going to be in attendance.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Um, that's a name pretty often talked about at quite a few of the SkyRunner World Series races.
- 25:47Speaker 1: She's a total beast as well as Marcela Vazanova from the Czech Republic.
- 25:54Speaker 1: In addition, we have some really exciting Japanese runners that are going to be showing up to throw down.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Takakoda Tamura from Japan is going to be there, as well as Spaniard Lide Uristazu and Oiana Zbiglia from Spain.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Both of them are on Team Basque selection.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And, last but not least, on the LIDI side, we have Arianda Rennes from Team Fam in Romania.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Big shout out to Team Fam.
- 26:21Speaker 1: It's a dope name for a team, team Fam.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Alright, let's talk men.
- 26:28Speaker 1: To round this out, we've got some men, uh, some stud athletes showing up.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Mr None other than Mr Benjamin Townsend want to give a big shout out to Ben?
- 26:38Speaker 1: Um, he's going to be going over there.
- 26:40Speaker 1: That's Rio's brother.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Uh, benjamin is a is a standout in the United States racing scene.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Um, again of Colorado Springs.
- 26:48Speaker 1: So he's a homeboy, hometown boy.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Um.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Check out episode eight of the steep stuff podcast to learn more about Benjamin Townsend.
- 26:54Speaker 1: He was one of the early episodes that we've had and he's done quite a few coverage races for me as well, uh, where he'll come on to talk about some of the races he's either raced or done previews on.
- 27:02Speaker 1: So Benjamin's kind of a mainstay of the pod.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So we're wishing him, as well as Rio, the absolute best of luck as they go over there to compete.
- 27:10Speaker 1: In addition to Benjamin, on the men's side, we have some really stud Japanese runners.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Household name Rui Udea from Team Rui he's got his own brand Shout out to.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Rui Japanese runner is going to be over there throwing down, as well as Shoma Atragiri, a Merrill athlete from Japan.
- 27:32Speaker 1: We're also going to have some Italians showing up, some Italians Mr Lorenzo Beltrami from Team Scarpa of Italy, as well as Giancarlo Giano from Team Brooks in Italy.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So it's kind of two pretty stacked fields of men and women.
- 27:50Speaker 1: So it should be fun to follow along this race and we want to wish everybody the absolute best of luck.
- 27:56Speaker 1: So, yeah, guys, that's basically it.
- 27:58Speaker 1: That's all I got for you for the Sub Stuff episode 13.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope everybody has a great week.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Still trying to figure out what episode I want to release on Friday.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I've got some good ones for you.
- 28:08Speaker 1: We did have Cam Smith on the pod that's going to be coming out soon, as well as normal country manager and just legend of the game, mr Michael Ambrose we've had on.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So there's quite a few pods.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I'm trying to decide which to release and when.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So should be some good stuff, guys.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Hope you have a great rest of your week.
