- 0:02[SPEAKER_03]: Christian parenting.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Bible for Kids Podcast with your hosts, author Trisha Goyer, and author and co-creator of Veggie Tales, Mike Nuraki.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: If instilling biblical values and kids is important to you, this podcast will give you the resources, wisdom, and hope to do just that.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now let's join our hosts, Trisha, and Mike for this week's episode.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Bible for Kids Podcast.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I am Trisha Goyer.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_04]: And I am Dan Lynch, and I'm filling in for a regular co-host, Mike Naraki today.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_04]: And no, I can't do the Larry boy voice, sorry folks.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_04]: You'll have another comment when Mike is back.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_04]: But today, our guest is Alan Brockham.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_04]: And before we start talking about his new project, we like to start every Bible for kids podcast with a Bible verse.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_04]: So Trisha,
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Today it's Psalm 7-8-4.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: We will not hide them from our descendants.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: We will tell the next generation to praise where they deeds of the Lord, his power and the wonders he has done.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_04]: So, a little about Alan before we get started, Alan considers himself a systems engineer for discipleship.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_04]: Lots of big words there, so we'll get him to explain maybe, but transitioning from a high level, engineering career to become a homeschool father, rather, of three, and a children's ministry veteran, with now over 15 years of experience.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_04]: He is the author of the Towers of Light series and the creator of the Daily Bible Reader for Kids, a dedicated offline and child's safe device designed to create a tech, safe sanctuary for children, which every family needs today.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_04]: So absolutely.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_04]: We're glad to have you back.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm really excited about this.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: The Daily Bible Reader for Kids is something I'm just, I couldn't be more excited that I'm here today to talk to you all.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: I am so excited you're talking about this.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: And okay, before we get to that though, I need to know what this system is near for discipleship means because you have this complex.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: background technical systems, but I love your heart.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you know Alan, you know his heart for kids, you know his heart for the Bible, you know his heart for getting kids off technology and getting the Bible into their hands.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: So tell us a little bit about that and just how of that discipleship and why it's so important to you, Alan.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, so I think to start out with the system's engineer part, let's talk about that, then we'll talk about the cycle ship.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: We'll break it down, right?
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: The system's engineering is a branch of engineering that brings together all the others.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: So if you're going to build something like data centers are in the news, right?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like we've heard about that, what you have all kinds of different engineers that have to make that work, like there's liquid cooling type engineers, there's electrical engineers, there's mechanical engineers, there's all those people, but what if they all have to come together and make something happen like a data center?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the systems engineer puts that all together.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: So that's my formal training, that's what I know.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: And so because of that formal training, I kind of look at the whole world as interconnected systems, how to things work together.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then that kind of brings me over to the discipleship, okay?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a problem.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, systems of junior solve big problems.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so I don't know if you're familiar with this, but in the public school and the general school market right now, kids age in 4th to 8th grade,
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of a problem for biblical literacy because you have to be practically literate.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be able to read the Bible in order to become biblical literate, that's a discipleship problem.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a discipleship problem that I'm hearing from other ministries.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm hearing, like I talked to a church camp and they're like, we can't do what we've done for decades because the kids in my third grade program can't actually read a Bible if you give it to them.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: like it's a real problem.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so I've been looking at this problem, how do we solve it?
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: And it goes back to when my own kids were a little, we were homeschooled family.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so my youngest had some real challenges reading.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: And what we would do is we would either sit and read aloud while he followed along in the page.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: and that with that reading while listening helped him walk-in words and work, but, you know, mom's busy, dads at work can't read every book to your kid.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Trisha, I know you can't read to every kid you have.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like, this is not physically possible.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: And so we would get out, unfortunately, we'd get out the iPad and the audiobooks, and he would have to hear it there.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: But you know what happens when you give a kid an audio, but when you give it like a kid an iPad,
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: Roblox or Minecraft or whatever they're playing games and check them out stuff And they're quickly not listening to that so so I knew from a systems perspective I needed to build a system that could provide audio so that mom because mom's are busy and something that she could trust
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: that if it was reading time, that's what they were doing.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I actually tried to engineer it myself to begin with.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I went out and ordered parts from China and tried to make manufacture these things.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm not that person.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not really that good at the manufacturing side.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I was blessed with a divine appointment with megabois audio bibles who make these solar power devices that go all over the world to proclaim God's word.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: I met them and they're like, oh, we could solve, we've got the device you want and so I've been able to put that together now we have a system where you can hear God's word on this dedicated device.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: So there's nothing else on it.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's just it just plays the Bible.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: And you can follow along on the page.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so we have these readwall listening kits that we're putting out that have really interesting stuff.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: So we've got the action Bible.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: So David C. Cook was willing to partner with us to put out the action Bible as something that your child can hear while they follow along.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: Which is great for that, you know, say eight to 10-year-old is just getting started reading and maybe a regular Bible is just too high reading level.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: like if you look even the NLT which is considered to be an easier version to read as like written at a junior high level and so for a third grader that can be tough starting with the action viable and then when they get to 10 or 12 you can move up to the NLT for example and what's great about that is we have the chronological NLT that Trisha uses on her
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: and so you can do a daily plan.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: So each one of our devices has a way to do a daily plan.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: So every day you can hit play, get the Bible verse and content of the day, and then there's questions at the end.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: So we have devotional content so you can actually lock in that knowledge by asking questions.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_04]: Wow, that's a lot.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_04]: I was getting ready to ask you about the shift from, or noticing the shift or digital fatigue, but I think you kind of covered that, you know, like what the light bulb moment was, it made you realize that smartphones weren't right for the job, but I mean, you know, I couldn't agree more.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, as a prior children's publisher, even when we were trying to work on e-books for kids and trying to figure out that, you know, quickly figured out that you had to kid a device.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_04]: Um, they don't want to read a book on it.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they want something more engaging, something more exciting.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_04]: So the traditional ebook just didn't work for the kids' market.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so part of our thing with this is that, you know, digital sanctuary, right?
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's a way to get away from all of that and not have all the noise.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, we call it, we call it discipleship without distractions.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing else going on.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: You're just going to hear God's word.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to see it with your eyes and it's going to put it in your heart.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I will say, I was probably three years ago now, probably three years ago, one of my kids is dyslexic struggles reading, brought home one of the players and he loved it.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like he loved it because he could just listen, like we, cause for some kids reading, it's a lot of work.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: You can just listen to God's word and so I love that and when I love to Alan you talk about like seeing what's out there Seeing the problem But then you engage with people right you worked with megabois, but you're also at conferences You're talking with families you're hearing from them and I think that is so important when it comes to publishing for children And when we can sit in our closed office and thank we
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Think we know what they need out there, what they want out there, but I love that you're doing that.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: And you did that recently.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Your latest book is at Talia in Excel.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Is that hype?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: And you worked close to his fans for collaboration.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I would love to hear more about that because that's, again, another community-led approach.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Connecting kids with the Cypalship.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I just want to hear how that project came to me because I'm like, what is this?
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I know everything that Ellen's doing, then all of a sudden this new thing pops up, like, where did this even come from, Ellen?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: it okay so so I'm also an author I write books and we have this read while listening this thing with my books but there's a lot going on right like I have a day job that's not even related to any of this stuff so but I had it on my heart that I wanted to write a story
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: in the towers of light universe in this world that was kind of like the book of Daniel, right?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, so when the book of Daniel Daniel gets taken off by, you know, the evil people to another land and then exposed to a lot of stuff that wasn't godly and he needed to be able to, you know, overcome that.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like our children today are walking out into this world that's got a lot of ungodliness in it and they need to learn how to engage with that appropriately and say no in the right places and have examples in literature, you know, in the fantastic fun stuff, the reading that there's examples of kids standing firm in their faith.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: Great idea.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: But Trisha, as you know with all the busy things you do, sometimes there's just not time to get it all done.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so two years ago, I was in that mode.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: I just didn't have enough time to get everything done.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: And all of a sudden, I get an email from my number one fan in Canada, Talia, she reads out to me, says, hey, Mr. Brock, and do you need help writing anything?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's the cutest thing ever, by the way, when we have those number one fans, let me just say it's awesome.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, she's my number one thing from Canada.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, she might be my only thing in Canada, I don't know, but she reached out to me directly.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: This is a rock and can I help you write something?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: And so I was like, hey, yeah, and she was shocked because I came back so quickly.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: But I had it out one, like I knew kind of like it's the book of Daniel, let's adjust it a little bit and do the thing.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: And so over two year period we worked on that.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: And what was interesting about it, too, was sort of a timing thing.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: She had actually been a guest writer, I guess, at the old school house magazine in their print magazine.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: And when they went online, she just didn't have that outlet anymore.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: They changed the format.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: And so this was really nice for her to be able to keep
- 11:11[SPEAKER_04]: I know Trisha knows you, and your material really well.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: One more follow-up question before we kind of shift over.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: What age group is that book for?
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, Tallian Exile is for 36 great.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's a middle grade book, it's an easy middle grade book.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's also a little smaller middle grade book because we found with these children that are running behind.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: They're intimidated by the big titles that are out there, right?
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so to give them a smaller book to get started, just feels more comfortable to know.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_04]: So it's an obtainable middle grade.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_04]: I love that.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_04]: And gonna move in and ask you a question about your towers of light series, but before we do that, it's time to take a break.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_04]: So we will be right back with Alan Broken on the Bible for Kids Podcast.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: from the co-creator, vegetables, and the voice of Larry the Cucumber comes and all new Dead Sea squirrels adventure.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: When Michael and Justin are forced to hide moral and pearls identities in a class presentation, they turn to AI to generate odd squirrels stand-ins, Uncle Merge, and Aunt Purge.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: As things spiral out of control, the boys begin to wonder if the cost of lying is worth it.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: Don't miss Cyberskworld, book 13 in the Dead Sea Scrolls series, available now wherever books are sold.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: The Bible for Kids Podcast is part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network, a group of 29 shows to help you let go of perfection and embrace the perfectly imperfect parent God created you to be.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_03]: Raising kids to know and love Jesus isn't easy.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_03]: and we're not meant to do it alone.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's why this network exists to be your digital village full of encouragement, expert advice, and a few laughs along the way.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Over the last year, our podcasts have been downloaded 5 million times, but that kind of impact only happens because of generous listeners like you.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_03]: Christian parenting is a non-profit and every resources funded by people who believe in this mission.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_03]: If this show has encouraged you, would you consider giving back head to cpgive.org to donate today?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: That's cpgive.org.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: Well, come back to the Bible for kids, podcasts, Dan and I are here with Alan Brooking.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we've been talking about a number of things, but I want to hear a little bit about the tower of light series.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_04]: And tell me, too, because I do not know, is the book that we were just talking about, part of the Tower of Light series, or are we now moving on to a different world?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: So the Tower of Light series, you can think that it's like little house on the perfect, but the kids put on the armor of God.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's kind of the gist of it.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's got that kind of frontier vibe.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a set of stories I wrote with my children when I was traveling for when they were young.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was just a way for me to connect with my kids.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: And it was great.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: We wrote the first book together pretty consistently over a period of time.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: and then it sat on the shelf for a while.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: Eventually it became what we're seeing today in print.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: That then has five other books that go with it.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like you mentioned light a mind, there's still small voice, uh, piano, evil, armor of God, well-spring of life, and demolishing the struggle.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: Those six books are complete series and then the uh, tallia book actually lives in between two of those books.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: So basically in the book tallia's character would show up as it may be a sub chapter or one of those little rabbit trails that you get in a book in the book armor of God.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: Makes sense.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like a spin-off, so if they're fans, they just totally know, I love that.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so going back to this literacy mission, how, like so people have said, I love this idea of this player, this daily Bible reader, like what is it, what does it do, how does my kid use it, tell us all things about it.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: So the Daily Bible Reader, the way it works is it's a tiny little device, it's a little bit bigger than a lipstick.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: So it fits in their backpack, fits in their pocket, it's something they can take with them everywhere.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's got a speaker on it, or you can plug headphones into it, and you just hit play.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: It already has the content on it, there's no apps, no Wi-Fi, no connections, you don't need to do anything, it just plays.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: and the way the daily Bible reader works is there's a button at the top that you pick the month and so if today's you know August 8 you hit the top button eight times to get to August you hit the bottom button 11 times to get the 11th and you can play today's scripture.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_02]: If you hit pause at the end, it'll remember you listen to August 11 and you pick it up on the 12th and hit play and it's going to play right where you were.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very simple anybody can operate it super easy to use and then we've got something similar with the action Bible.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: That one's a little bit different and then it's got the full action Bible just, you know, chapter by chapter.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: And then there's the action Bible devotional that we've broken up into a daily plan that would be a 10-week thing.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: So if you wanted to do a Bible unit in your home school, you could do a 10-week Bible unit with the daily Bible reader for kids with the action Bible on it.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_04]: What age groups is for?
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, so we actually also, we just got yesterday.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: The 365 Bible stories book from David C. Cook also.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: So we have something that will go as young as four years old.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: all the way up to adult because while it says daily Bible reader for kids, I mean, it's the full Bible at a certain point in anybody can listen to it, but all of these devices are safety tested down to age zero.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: So technically you can put one of these devices in with a baby and it will be totally safe.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: The babies chew it on the Bible.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's a whole new.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm holding you, I love that.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_04]: I ask because I'm sitting here thinking I have eight grandkids and I'm going, how many of these still need order?
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: So you've seen a fourx improvement in reading performance, the curriculum and stuff.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_04]: So how does that lead in practical literacy directly impact a child's confidence when they actually go to open a Bible?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: So what's great about this is, and we've gotten customers who children were going to public school, and we're just having real challenges.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, what was going on at school wasn't working for them, and they wanted something they could do at home at night, just to supplement, like a way to help.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_02]: So they got our system, and by following how it works, I think it's important to remember that we have questions that go with these things as well.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: And it's that talking to your student after they've done the reading part that really helps lock in the comprehension and lock in the work.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: But by just doing that work for like 15 minutes a day, the daily Bible readers about 15 minutes of content a day, they will automatically, it basically improves their vocabulary, their acquisition of vocabulary, and especially in the Bible where there's a lot of words they might not be familiar with.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: It really helps bring those into their brain.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: as well as their actual reading speed when not hearing the audio gets improved.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: And so overall, it just helps the child be a lot more confident in reading.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I can speak, you know, just in my own home, my child did this.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: He had a lot of trouble at first.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: And within six months or so, he was pretty confident in by a year.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_02]: He was, you know, reading on his own and didn't need the audio.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love that.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: And what I love, it's also God's word.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: So like the seeds that are planted that they'll remember the stories and these, and when they're reading the whole Bible and this is the thing, like going, growing up in church, my mom and my grandma became Christian so I was like second grade.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: We just said, let's go love, send this go love to the Flamograph.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: But it was just like a collection of stories.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: I could have told you like the timeline of things or when things happened or but when they're reading like the whole Bible
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: getting those doses they understand like the larger picture like what was happening Old Testament why when Jesus talks about the temple and New Testament they understand what was happening because they went through the Old Testament I think those seeds that are planted are so good and I think that you know
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: churches we love we love them and we love curriculum and we love devotion a little this little scripture with the subtle take away but I think um talk a little bit about kind of the shift from just keeping kids busy or just telling them the stories was actually helping them get deeply rooted in the Word of God.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what I like about the audio is it is just more engaging, right?
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: Then here, here, go, go read this old book.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there is that kind of aspect of it.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: But with the audio now, now they've got their player, they can listen to it.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: They can also just take it with them.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: So one of the things we found with these devices generally is kids are just taking it everywhere.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they don't have to just listen the 15 minutes today.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: Especially if they like the narrator's voice, they might be listening to it everywhere all the time.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, but what I see kids with this device do is just really absorb the stories because they're listening to it all the time.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: We had for the younger kids, we had a version of this where we had this young boy that he had to have time sleeping.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: He was very anxious child couldn't sleep at night.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: So we have these stuffed animals that you can put in the audio book player in.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: So we got him one of those and now he take his stuff and he'd go to bed and he would sleep.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: But he listened to the Bible all night long.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Every night.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: all week long all the time and so it was really funny he got to the VBS one day and all of a sudden he raises his hand pay pastor pastor you're not telling that story right let me tell it and and you know people started calling preacher because he could he can preach the Bible he can tell you the Bible so that's what's great about this because it's a dedicated audio player something they can take everywhere with them something that can just become part of them but what we want
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the male meow is a little black kitten.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: The male meow is the she's in some of Allen's books, but I got meow meow for my little granddaughter.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: Must have been three years ago now that little kitten goes back and forth when she comes from Europe.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: Such a kitten has a lot of air miles.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: I have a picture of you over Allen all sent it to you.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: Just most recently when they were here last month, meow meow came back over, she went
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: And so that little kid about the right, like they just just take it everywhere, right with the Bible right there.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_04]: That is wonderful.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we're up against break time again.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_04]: So we're gonna take another quick break and then we will be right back on the Bible for kids podcast.

- 23:30[UNKNOWN]: What's up?
- 23:34[SPEAKER_04]: Well, welcome back to the Bible for kids podcast.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_04]: We're talking to Alan Broken about a number of his exciting projects today and content.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: And so, Trisha, take it on.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so tell us a little bit about Mega Voice
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: I love megabois, I love the mission, I think people don't know that megabois has actually been around for a long time and that these devices have been used all over the world and which is why they're so like tamper proof.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'll talk a little bit about that because I think it's a really cool thing to know that this is the way the gospel has been going around the world for a while now.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the megabois devices are, like you said, they've been around for a while, actually in the 1980s, a missionary came back from the mission field.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: And at the time, he was using like 86 cassette tapes to try to have the Bible audio.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: And if you remember a cassette tape, I mean, maybe not everybody here does, but there's only so many times you can put it in there too.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's old folks, too, Alan.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and so the problem would be you'd be in the mission field
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: the tape is bad and now you've lost a part of the Bible and the reality of the situation is passing out Bibles in the mission field don't really work either because people aren't literate like they can't read them and so when he came back he it was really funny story how his car talked to him and in the 80s that was a big thing all of a sudden it would tell you to put on your seatbelt and things like that and then at Christmas this little niece of his got a
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he was like, how, these things can talk without tapes.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: How can I do that?
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: And then there was a defined appointment at an airport where he met an engineer.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: And they wrote up this specification for a, of this solar power device that could play the whole Bible without any tapes or records or anything.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: and God brought him the money and all of a sudden we have this device.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: So like a decade before there was such a thing as an MP3 player, like the MP3 standard didn't exist even, they invented this technology to put godsward out there.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: And so since the early 90s, like 1.5 million megabytes devices have been put out into the mission field in literally thousands of languages to proclaim God's work.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now, not every Bible is, every language has the full Bible, that translation works very difficult, but pretty much the book of John has been put out in thousands of languages using these devices.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: And now you're using it for.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we chose them at towers of light.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: There's lots of there.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: There are some other devices out there after talking to some other ministries and understanding how it's used.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: We picked the megabois devices because of their reliability.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: So they have a really good warranty.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: the devices themselves rarely have a problem out of the box, like we get them and they work, where many of the other devices on the market actually, say 20% we've heard as bad as 20% bad rate when you get it, and that's horrible.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: So they've got really good things.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: They're also childhood safety tested down to age zero, which again, that's been a big deal.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: We wanted to make sure that if you wanted to give a device to a baby and hear God's word, we could do that.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so those are key reasons why we chose the devices, but also they're just super long lasting.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: They say a typical device will last seven years out in the mission field, and the device is still good.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: But the batteries only last that long, and the batteries are replaceable.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could get new batteries after that period of time.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: So cool.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: So we know that the Bibles on them, the action Bible, your book series is on them.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any other books, hint, hint, hint that you might happen to have?
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: The daily Bible reader that's coming out right now, the one we're releasing, that just has the Bible on it.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but it's also super economical.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's kind of the cheapest way to get in.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: We have a limited edition.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: We're calling it the daily Bible reader aqua.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: We have a limited edition that's available right now that will have your choice, basically it's going to come with the action Bible on it.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to come with the KJV Bible on it in a daily format, all that daily format.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: And there's another channel that's going to have the towers of light stories on it.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: And you can then add content to it that we have available in our catalog or you can download other places and add content to it.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really kind of your audio book player for your child.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so that we've got limited number of those and basically in next year we'll be putting out a whole line of that as well.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, and then we also have the tower of light audio book player that also you can add content to.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, like prayers to change history.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they're really good.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: They're that I wrote.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just thrown that out.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: Just thrown that out there, Alan.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I know.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_04]: I know.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: I'm definitely checking all this out and probably ordering units here for much.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's like Googling.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's like not Googling.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's like searching your website right now.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're like interviewing you.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_04]: Definitely a multi-tasker, so I'm always, but, yeah, Alan, thanks for coming back and being with us again, and it's been an honor to share this journey with you and learn more about what you're doing, certainly providing children with something like this.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_04]: It's more than, it's more than convenient, you know, putting the word in their hearts.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_04]: I struggle for a good period of time.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_04]: I remember
- 29:08[SPEAKER_04]: with my kids were little, you know, some of the things they would listen to, you know, like adventures and Odyssey, for instance, focus on the family at night and they go to sleep, but we hit this generation that there is nothing.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_04]: And then, you know, like products like Tony's have come along and provided a, you know, an entertainment solution, but it's not providing the word.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_04]: So thank you for, you know, everything you're doing and, you know, can you, you know,
- 29:35[SPEAKER_04]: You know, where they can find the daily Bible reader for kids and where they can learn more about you and your work and your books.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: So if you go to towersoflight.com slash audio, you'll find all of our audio products including the daily Bible reader for kids.
