- 0:06Speaker 1: I guess the burning question everyone wants to know, how
- 0:10Speaker 1: is the growth on your dick? Did you get that
- 0:14Speaker 1: sorted out? Yes? I have good. Good because there was
- 0:19Speaker 1: a rash down there for a while, I said, I
- 0:22Speaker 1: said to you, didn't I say, go get a cream
- 0:24Speaker 1: for that. You can't just keep walking around with one
- 0:27Speaker 1: ball out your shorts. And then undering further inspection, we
- 0:32Speaker 1: found out there was a little growth on your cash
- 0:35Speaker 1: and prizes. That's how we're starting this. Yeah, this week's
- 0:40Speaker 1: out and I'm not editing that out. Have you been well?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well, yeah, much better now.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, don't worry. Beers are on the way.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope.
- 0:52Speaker 1: So, Yeah, we're not too far. It's nearly midday. The
- 0:57Speaker 1: wonderful world of cars, haven't we been? It has been
- 1:01Speaker 1: very busy. I think the car world is very quickly
- 1:04Speaker 1: moving to EV's. I think we're seeing a whole lot
- 1:06Speaker 1: of that. It's crazy, isn't it. Did you predict this? No?
- 1:10Speaker 3: I think a few years ago when everyone said, oh
- 1:12Speaker 3: EV's are coming, Everyone's like eventually, but.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Not this fast. Now everyone's talking EV's.
- 1:18Speaker 3: We actually had a story that kind of this is
- 1:21Speaker 3: the context to it that Ev Council released some sales
- 1:24Speaker 3: figures from Tesla.
- 1:25Speaker 1: God, is there an EV council that reminds me of
- 1:28Speaker 1: something you'd be on? Leave your bloody eight pocket river shirt.
- 1:32Speaker 1: As an engineer, I'd like to say, as part of
- 1:35Speaker 1: the EV Council, well speak up, tell me what do
- 1:39Speaker 1: you can change?
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well, I don't think i'd be allowed on the EV
- 1:42Speaker 3: Council because I sometimes called out bullshit EV stuff and
- 1:46Speaker 3: they're like, no, I'm not allowed to say bad things.
- 1:48Speaker 3: It's only good things about EV's and I'm like.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Well some is pretty shit.
- 1:51Speaker 3: So but they released some Tesla sales figures and the
- 1:55Speaker 3: claim was that they sold a little over fifteen thousand
- 1:59Speaker 3: model threes last.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Year, and I was one of them the year before.
- 2:05Speaker 1: There we go. So what you know how last week
- 2:07Speaker 1: I was going to ask you this. You know how
- 2:08Speaker 1: last week you set the challenge of me test driving
- 2:12Speaker 1: a shiny Yes, right, I was tempted to cheat the system.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I could have gone Volvo yes, technically yes, but I
- 2:19Speaker 1: was tempted to cheat the system, and maybe I could
- 2:22Speaker 1: have gone Tesla.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yes. Well, my my Tesla is US built. So how
- 2:27Speaker 2: do you know that?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Because I know where it was built how it wasn't.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It wasn't an Australasian build. No, it directly from really
- 2:36Speaker 1: from the US. I would have preferred the Stuttgart build
- 2:40Speaker 1: of Tesla because they are built.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Over there, right Well, No, Berlin.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Same Schnitzel, Jesus Christ, Why do you always correct?
- 2:51Speaker 3: Anyway, So Tesla they claimed the fifteen thousand figure, and
- 2:55Speaker 3: it turns out they accidentally added the year before and
- 2:59Speaker 3: last year together, so it wasn't fifteen thousand, it was
- 3:03Speaker 3: twelve thousand, which is still a big number. And that
- 3:05Speaker 3: meant that just the Model three outsold all of Lexus,
- 3:10Speaker 3: all of Scota, all of land Rover, all of Jaguar,
- 3:14Speaker 3: so just in one model. So I think evs are
- 3:16Speaker 3: coming fast. But let's see, because I think a lot
- 3:20Speaker 3: of the sales that came through that Model three with
- 3:22Speaker 3: the entry level car, which is fifty nine thousand. At
- 3:24Speaker 3: fifty nine thousand, it's actually very cheap and a very
- 3:27Speaker 3: good deal. They get less and less appealing as they
- 3:31Speaker 3: get more expensive, which is where a whole lot of
- 3:32Speaker 3: them are at the moment. So I think we'll see
- 3:34Speaker 3: a proper flood of them once they are cheaper, and
- 3:38Speaker 3: we see the thirty thirty five thousand dollars EV. I
- 3:41Speaker 3: think that's where it will really sort of pick up.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, MG are doing an EV for what
- 3:46Speaker 1: about forty three.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yep BYD is apparently coming. They keep saying they're coming.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But you know, one thing we're talking about this off air,
- 3:53Speaker 1: the progression and evolution of evs seem to be so quick,
- 3:58Speaker 1: to the point that if if you buy now in
- 4:01Speaker 1: a couple of years, it's going to look a bit obsolete,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that's my concern, especially with my Tesla for example,
- 4:10Speaker 3: what are.
- 4:10Speaker 1: We up to now? Four minutes in and seven mentions?
- 4:14Speaker 1: All right?
- 4:15Speaker 3: My concern is that, yeah, in three or four years time,
- 4:17Speaker 3: if you have an EV that'll do eight hundred kilometers,
- 4:20Speaker 3: who's going to buy my car secondhand that does four
- 4:22Speaker 3: hundred exactly.
- 4:23Speaker 2: So that's my warning here.
- 4:25Speaker 3: If you're going to go buy an EV and spend
- 4:27Speaker 3: mega dollars on it, it's going to be, just like
- 4:29Speaker 3: any new technology, that will be obsolete and probably worth
- 4:33Speaker 3: not very much very quickly.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I wonder how they're going to do that. Like you
- 4:37Speaker 1: look at the Porsche tie Can and you go, what
- 4:39Speaker 1: is it like say two hundred and thirty k for
- 4:41Speaker 1: the turbo. We were talking about a couple of EPs back, right,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and that has arranged roughly of about four for twenty kilometers. Right.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So if you were to buy one today, walk that
- 4:53Speaker 1: out of the showroom in three years time, that car
- 4:56Speaker 1: is going to look a bit. Really, it's going to
- 4:58Speaker 1: look a bit hundred kilometers really. I mean theoretically it
- 5:04Speaker 1: shouldn't make too much of a difference with charging stations
- 5:08Speaker 1: kind of coming up in the exactly a few years.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But I mean they're starting to release concepts of you know,
- 5:14Speaker 1: that Mercedes that was one thousand kilometers or something on
- 5:17Speaker 1: the clock, but the progression is so quick, yeap.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And that's the thing.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I don't know that anyone really needs one thousand kilometers
- 5:26Speaker 3: of driving range in an EV I mean, if you
- 5:28Speaker 3: travel a lot and interstate fair enough, that makes sense.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But to me, I wouldn't necessarily spend an extra thirty
- 5:34Speaker 3: grand to travel a thousand kilometers because I don't think
- 5:38Speaker 3: you would need it. I would end up just doing
- 5:40Speaker 3: the same thing where I'd let it run empty and
- 5:43Speaker 3: then I'd feel it. It's no different whether it's four
- 5:45Speaker 3: hundred or two hundred or a thousand, I would still
- 5:47Speaker 3: do the same thing.
- 5:48Speaker 2: So if you have ready.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Access to charge it, it doesn't really make that big
- 5:54Speaker 3: of a difference to me.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And I think most times in the next five ten
- 5:57Speaker 1: years are going to have charging stations any degree of
- 6:01Speaker 1: which can I mean effectively, you can do it now,
- 6:03Speaker 1: but you know in a couple of years time those
- 6:05Speaker 1: supercharge networks, you'll be able to affordably have one in
- 6:08Speaker 1: your own home.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And I look at our apartment building, for example.
- 6:11Speaker 3: We have one hundred and seventy five apartments in there,
- 6:14Speaker 3: and I'm on the.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Top floor, no doubt. And how sweet are we owners? Committee?
- 6:20Speaker 2: And yeah, the.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Driver, you're on the committee, you're on the what do
- 6:23Speaker 1: they call it, the strata? Got one of those decks. No,
- 6:26Speaker 1: your dog is not allowed in that building. I saw
- 6:28Speaker 1: it next to my tesla.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Actually joking.
- 6:31Speaker 3: There was a debate at the last meeting whether dogs
- 6:34Speaker 3: should be allowed on the podium unleashed.
- 6:36Speaker 1: What's the podium We've got.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Like an outdoor podium area, whether tennis court, Instagram caller, I.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Bet you have an actual podium for first, second, third,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and you just stand up on number one.
- 6:49Speaker 3: So I know in our building that We're now up
- 6:52Speaker 3: to four people with EVS, me included.
- 6:55Speaker 1: What EV's had.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I drive a Tesla.
- 6:57Speaker 1: That's number nine. We'll get up to ten. I get
- 7:00Speaker 1: to you're buying the first drink. So yeah, basically, the.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Progression of EVS in our building kind of reflects what's
- 7:07Speaker 3: happening in the market as well, so I think it
- 7:09Speaker 3: will just be a sign of it increasing over time slowly.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get there. I've lost my spot because that
- 7:15Speaker 1: was just you were so boring. What are we going
- 7:23Speaker 1: to talk about now, oh, Ranger Raptor.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Yes, So this is a little complicated, right because right
- 7:29Speaker 3: now it is.
- 7:31Speaker 1: We won't say the exact date. I like to make
- 7:33Speaker 1: these podcasts sound timeless.
- 7:34Speaker 3: It's before the Ranger Raptor has been revealed, so some
- 7:38Speaker 3: of the stuff that I'm about to say may not
- 7:40Speaker 3: actually be correct, but this is what I well.
- 7:43Speaker 1: We know so far, and it's before launch at this point.
- 7:47Speaker 3: So what I do know is that it's powered by
- 7:50Speaker 3: a three liter twin turbo V six petrol engine, which
- 7:54Speaker 3: is awesome because we all thought it was just going
- 7:56Speaker 3: to get the V six diesel, but they have gone
- 7:58Speaker 3: whole hod here and gone with the turbo V six petrol.
- 8:01Speaker 3: That also probably means is gonna get launched in the
- 8:03Speaker 3: States with that exact engine as well, and it will
- 8:05Speaker 3: be a global for performance spec for that car.
- 8:08Speaker 2: But I did a development drive with Ford.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Probably six months ago now and we got to be
- 8:16Speaker 3: passengers in the Everest V six diesel, Ranger two liter
- 8:20Speaker 3: diesel and Ranger Raptor, and it was through the Victorian
- 8:23Speaker 3: high country and some of the stuff this car was
- 8:26Speaker 3: doing was insane, like it was climbing these mud covered
- 8:31Speaker 3: clay hills that I probably wouldn't even attempt in a
- 8:35Speaker 3: modified four wheel drive, and they were just sending it
- 8:39Speaker 3: and it is awesome. So front difflock, center difflock, rear difflock,
- 8:43Speaker 3: so you've got three differential locks on the car. So
- 8:45Speaker 3: it is a proper off road machine, full time Fabell drive,
- 8:48Speaker 3: but can go into two wheel drive for drift mode.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Sounds absolutely awesome, and the interior looks different enough to
- 8:56Speaker 3: the standard Ranger to get that sort of RAPTI vibe
- 8:59Speaker 3: to it. We don't know price or exact power and
- 9:01Speaker 3: talk outputs, but this will be expensive, I reckon The
- 9:04Speaker 3: current Ranger Raptor is around seventy six seventy seven grand
- 9:08Speaker 3: given they've just thrown the kitchen sink at this, I
- 9:10Speaker 3: reckon maybe eighty five ninety thousand.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Dollars with all that, Like it is properly kitted out.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And what you were saying about the interior, I feel like,
- 9:18Speaker 1: even though you know there's enough difference from the say
- 9:21Speaker 1: the standard Ranger, when you look at what the twenty
- 9:24Speaker 1: twenty two Ranger is adding at the moment, it's it's
- 9:27Speaker 1: kitted out. It's enough, you know what I mean.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Like you've got proper recaro seats, you've got the
- 9:32Speaker 3: big sort of display in the center, raptor highlights inside
- 9:35Speaker 3: the cabin that the sort of paddle shifters. It actually
- 9:39Speaker 3: gets the same suspension as the fine fifty Raptor update
- 9:43Speaker 3: in the States. So that's with the I think it's
- 9:45Speaker 3: called live valve suspension, which is Fox racing suspension, but
- 9:50Speaker 3: it has adaptive damping, and it also has things like
- 9:53Speaker 3: a jump mode so that it can actually press the
- 9:56Speaker 3: suspension for full extension and then full jam, which is
- 10:01Speaker 3: that's cool, soo jounces where you get that full compression.
- 10:03Speaker 3: So the way that it deals with it impacting the body.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It's Paul going down to the Westfield Car Park. Check
- 10:09Speaker 1: come off full of thick car. Check it out, bro.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Jumps jounces, So yeah, it's it's going to be an
- 10:16Speaker 3: absolute beast and I cannot wait to drive this.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Are they bringing the F one fifty here? Look?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Probably not? No, The problem is at the moment one
- 10:25Speaker 2: looks good.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 3: F one fifty in the States is you know, And
- 10:29Speaker 3: we discussed this in the LA Special. F one fifty
- 10:32Speaker 3: is a proper truck and they are at one hundred
- 10:35Speaker 3: percent capacity just for the States and left hand drive markets.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So for them to make it right hand drive, it
- 10:40Speaker 3: just makes no sense at all from an engineering standpoint.
- 10:43Speaker 2: So the only way.
- 10:44Speaker 3: They would do it is to bring it here and
- 10:46Speaker 3: convert it to right hand drive locally. Toyota appears to
- 10:49Speaker 3: be doing that with the Tundra, and I think if
- 10:51Speaker 3: Toyota does it, Ford will be forced to do it
- 10:53Speaker 3: as well.
- 10:53Speaker 1: We need to talk about Young Day's Ionic five real quick,
- 10:56Speaker 1: because I've got a feeling this is a case of
- 10:58Speaker 1: Paul going as an engineer. I told you so, guys, guys,
- 11:02Speaker 1: I told you yeah so. Look.
- 11:05Speaker 2: One of my main complaints with the five.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I thought it was a really great car, but one
- 11:08Speaker 3: of My main complaints was the body control, and where
- 11:11Speaker 3: we tested it at the proving ground it I've almost
- 11:13Speaker 3: left the ground at one hundred and thirty ks now,
- 11:15Speaker 3: which is the maximum speed you can do in Australia
- 11:17Speaker 3: on the sine waves. So when it gets to that point,
- 11:20Speaker 3: it shows that the car doesn't have a great deal
- 11:21Speaker 3: of body control, and to me that wasn't a good thing.
- 11:25Speaker 3: And for that reason I wouldn't buy one because a
- 11:27Speaker 3: lot of people do highway driving with family on board,
- 11:30Speaker 3: and if it doesn't feel comfortable or safe, you don't
- 11:32Speaker 3: want to want to buy one. So in this instance
- 11:35Speaker 3: I complained about it. Everyone else thought it was fantastic
- 11:38Speaker 3: and I thought, well.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Well that's not quite other people when we reviewed that. Now,
- 11:42Speaker 1: when we review this, I said, like, my main concern
- 11:45Speaker 1: with this car was it doesn't handle great, and it
- 11:49Speaker 1: just doesn't handle like, for instance, the normal commute.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Yep, okay, outside of you and one of my friends
- 11:55Speaker 3: who is actually a dynamics engineer at a car company,
- 11:58Speaker 3: who was.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Another engineering friend, yep, he thought it was shocking as well.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Everyone else thought it was great.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And the thing is with this Yonday has now come
- 12:06Speaker 3: out and said that there are some changes coming to
- 12:08Speaker 3: the Ionic five, including some different suspensions. So now they've
- 12:12Speaker 3: now introduced smart frequency dampers that are said to improve
- 12:16Speaker 3: the response of the front and rear suspension to increase
- 12:18Speaker 3: right comfort and improve body control.
- 12:21Speaker 2: So I told you so is where I was going
- 12:25Speaker 2: at with that.
- 12:26Speaker 1: He just wanted to get that in.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yes, that's all.
- 12:28Speaker 1: That's literally. He sent me ten texts this week. Hey,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I told you, so, what are you talking about? Hey?
- 12:36Speaker 1: I told you I want to talk about Singer. How
- 12:38Speaker 1: do you pronounce this? Is it Singer by Design or well?
- 12:42Speaker 3: Look, I just know them as Singer and Singer basically takes.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Singer vehicle design. Let's go with that.
- 12:48Speaker 3: So Singer just takes Porsches and keeps the retro Porsche
- 12:53Speaker 3: look on the outside, but it goes wide body. It
- 12:57Speaker 3: just adds a lot of styling flare to them. And
- 13:00Speaker 3: I tell you what, these things look sensational. And we
- 13:04Speaker 3: just published a news story that Singer is now getting
- 13:07Speaker 3: into the turbo business. They're based in California and it's
- 13:12Speaker 3: basically taking the nine six four generation nine to eleven
- 13:16Speaker 3: and reimagines it for enthusiasts. They are expensive and the
- 13:19Speaker 3: latest one is called the turbo study and it comes
- 13:21Speaker 3: powered by three point eight letter twein turbo charged and
- 13:24Speaker 3: into called flat six making over three hundred kilowatts of power.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And this thing is just wow, They're stunning. So yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: like you were saying, it feels like this really is
- 13:37Speaker 1: the service for the rich and famous. It is almost
- 13:40Speaker 1: like a private commission. You bring your secondhand Porsche might
- 13:45Speaker 1: probably would need some sort of restoration anyway, and you're like,
- 13:49Speaker 1: give it everything. Here's my budget. And by the way,
- 13:52Speaker 1: there is no budget. Just go to friggintown and they will.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And I know before COVID I was saying that one
- 13:58Speaker 1: of my mates was into it and it was about
- 14:02Speaker 1: an eighteen month wait then and that was you know,
- 14:06Speaker 1: getting it overseas, getting it all done, sending it over here.
- 14:08Speaker 1: That was within eighteen months, and that was like, wow,
- 14:11Speaker 1: that's such a long way. So now I don't know,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but i'd have to say at least two years plus.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it would have blown out.
- 14:16Speaker 3: And that's the thing with these vehicles. You it's expensive
- 14:19Speaker 3: because you have to have one to start with. They
- 14:21Speaker 3: then butcher it. And by saying butcher it, I mean
- 14:23Speaker 3: they have to take it all apart to add all
- 14:25Speaker 3: this stuff to it.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But the thing is, anyone can really buy a Lambo.
- 14:29Speaker 3: So if you just walk into a Lamborghini dealership, you
- 14:31Speaker 3: just throw money at them and they will get you
- 14:33Speaker 3: a car.
- 14:34Speaker 2: But with these guys, this is why people go and
- 14:36Speaker 2: buy these. They're just different. Oh the absolutely you know,
- 14:40Speaker 2: buy this.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Porsche doesn't generally like people stuffing around with their cars,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but I feel like there is almost a bit of
- 14:48Speaker 1: an understanding. Yeah, there's almost like a tip of the
- 14:52Speaker 1: hat yes this, and I think there's a lot of
- 14:56Speaker 1: respect there. And I'm just I'm going through the instapage.
- 14:59Speaker 1: It really looks stunning. I thought they did. I thought
- 15:01Speaker 1: Singer were the ones who did that. Did you say
- 15:04Speaker 1: that Porsche Baha?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Oh yes, yeah, I'm pretty.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Sure they were on board with a bit of that. Anyway,
- 15:11Speaker 1: that thing was a gun like that was going over
- 15:13Speaker 1: sand dunes and stuff like that. They made about three
- 15:16Speaker 1: of them, and I know recently two of them came
- 15:18Speaker 1: up for sale.
- 15:18Speaker 3: It's them as well. So I'm just reading a story
- 15:20Speaker 3: here on Road and Track. The latest portion nine to
- 15:22Speaker 3: eleven from Singer is a Baja Ready twin turboo Monster. Yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 3: so it's called the All Terrain Competition study and it
- 15:28Speaker 3: looks mental, but just.
- 15:31Speaker 1: The way they kid out their interior, and for an
- 15:35Speaker 1: American company too, like usually when Americans get their hands
- 15:39Speaker 1: on a car and do mods. I don't particularly think
- 15:42Speaker 1: it's that tasteful. I really don't.
- 15:44Speaker 3: But the thing is that I've noticed in none of
- 15:47Speaker 3: these stories do they mention the price. And I think
- 15:49Speaker 3: that's indicative of how much it costs.
- 15:52Speaker 1: The guy who started this used to be in a
- 15:55Speaker 1: rock band back in the days, so cool, I forget it.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I think it's like Rob Dick Dickinson up. I don't
- 16:01Speaker 1: I can't even remember the band he was in, but
- 16:03Speaker 1: I know he was in English or he's an English guy,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and I think that maybe that says a lot for
- 16:08Speaker 1: the for the way that this car is put together,
- 16:11Speaker 1: because the Heia is just just stunning. The herring bone,
- 16:17Speaker 1: the dash, oh man.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It's it's one hundred percent there.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I love it absolutely, It's one of it looks. It's
- 16:23Speaker 1: one of those things if if if you had that
- 16:26Speaker 1: crazy amount of money and you wanted to do a
- 16:28Speaker 1: J Leno style garage, you would be like, guys, whatever
- 16:31Speaker 1: it takes put this car together for me, I want it.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I want it. The turbo that they made was incredible.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, it's almost like I kind of wish
- 16:41Speaker 1: that they got together with Porsche and put something together
- 16:45Speaker 1: for Porscha.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Is going to do their Baja car, which is like
- 16:49Speaker 3: an off road version of the nine to eleven. Right,
- 16:52Speaker 3: so we'll see what that looks like. But I don't
- 16:53Speaker 3: think it'll be anywhere near as cool as this singer stuff.
- 16:55Speaker 1: No, I agree, Car Review Time, Yes, throw to it.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Just you always give it a bit of a Yars
- 17:01Speaker 1: or yards Queen or whatever you do. Yes, okay, that'll do.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Cue the bloody New Zealand. I had to pay that
- 17:07Speaker 1: woman so much money, and I want some sort of
- 17:09Speaker 1: a drummed up. Yes.
- 17:12Speaker 4: The Bmwix range prices start from one hundred and fifty
- 17:16Speaker 4: six thousand, five hundred and fifty three dollars for the
- 17:19Speaker 4: x Drive forty to the one we reviewed, the x
- 17:21Speaker 4: Drive fifty at one hundred and eighty three thousand, two
- 17:24Speaker 4: hundred dollars excluding on road costs.
- 17:27Speaker 1: The bmw Ix, which is currently parked out the front
- 17:33Speaker 1: looking lovely except.
- 17:35Speaker 2: You're in it. Who looks better the car or me?
- 17:39Speaker 1: Oh my god? You honestly don't deserve to be in
- 17:42Speaker 1: that car. You look shady as anything. You look honestly,
- 17:46Speaker 1: you look like you've stolen it. You werering songs today
- 17:49Speaker 1: driving a one hundred and eighty thousand dollars car. That
- 17:52Speaker 1: pisses me off because you actually see genuine like rich
- 17:55Speaker 1: people doing that, getting into their portion nine elevens just
- 17:58Speaker 1: with you know, tracks, it pants and whatnot.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And I'm glad you don't feel too strongly about it.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Lovely car, it's really nice. I think I'm gonna preference
- 18:12Speaker 1: this by saying that obviously I haven't been driving it
- 18:15Speaker 1: around like you've been driving around, but as an Admira
- 18:20Speaker 1: looks really cool.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yeah, look in the pictures, it looks interesting. In person,
- 18:26Speaker 3: it looks interesting, And styling is entirely subjective, right, So
- 18:30Speaker 3: what I think looks great, other people may not, and
- 18:33Speaker 3: vice versas.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So it is imposing.
- 18:36Speaker 3: It turns a lot of heads, but I don't know
- 18:37Speaker 3: if it's turning a lot of heads for the right reason.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I do love the back of it. The front not
- 18:42Speaker 3: entirely sold on, but it is what it is. I
- 18:45Speaker 3: actually mentioned when we were filming this at the proven
- 18:48Speaker 3: ground where we film at that I don't know how
- 18:51Speaker 3: well this will work in the country, because the door
- 18:54Speaker 3: handles are set up in such a way that you
- 18:57Speaker 3: could have a huntsman or something living underneath them.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You are a certified pussy. Well where we were filming,
- 19:03Speaker 1: where you were filming was literally at a huntsman's nest,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and they were everywhere everywhere.
- 19:09Speaker 3: It was like five of them in plain sight. And
- 19:11Speaker 3: then one of them, which I thought was dead, I
- 19:14Speaker 3: went back inside five minutes later and it had vanished,
- 19:17Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh this, I'm getting out of here.
- 19:20Speaker 3: So this is why I think that if you owned
- 19:23Speaker 3: this car in the middle of Australia, that you would
- 19:25Speaker 3: have all sorts of fun things living under the door handles.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I kind of feel like that's with any door handle though,
- 19:29Speaker 3: right a very spacious door handle recesses.
- 19:33Speaker 1: By the way, that hand yester you just did, Banji
- 19:35Speaker 1: look like a going to collogist.
- 19:40Speaker 3: So yeah, look a few curious things about the outside.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I mentioned to you that the grill. The grill is there,
- 19:46Speaker 3: but it's not real because it's an ev They only
- 19:49Speaker 3: use the bottom section, which has these loovers that open
- 19:51Speaker 3: and close depending on whether it needs cooling. That just
- 19:53Speaker 3: sort of calls the battery right, and the grill section
- 19:57Speaker 3: actually has a speaker behind it for the order a
- 20:00Speaker 3: pedestrian warning stuff. It has the radar, It has a
- 20:03Speaker 3: dimeister in it to keep that from frosting over.
- 20:07Speaker 2: But it also has a self healing.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Sort of finish on it, so if you do get
- 20:12Speaker 3: a scratch or anything like that on there, you apply
- 20:15Speaker 3: heat to it and within twenty four hours it closes
- 20:17Speaker 3: over the gash.
- 20:18Speaker 1: So Jesus, I think we just got pulled off Spotify again.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So it's like my ex wife, So yeah, I think
- 20:26Speaker 1: that's cool.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Also, the bonbit doesn't open, which I think is stupid
- 20:29Speaker 3: because EV should take full advantage of the space under there. Well,
- 20:32Speaker 3: it doesn't open for the consumer. So you fill the
- 20:36Speaker 3: washer fluid through the BMW logo, you press it, it pops open.
- 20:41Speaker 2: So yeah, it's interesting.
- 20:46Speaker 1: It looks like a rough Saturday night down Oxford Street.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It's just that's good. I think that's good. No, yeah,
- 20:54Speaker 1: the Oxford there was those photos of you coming out
- 20:58Speaker 1: of the tool shed. That was Scandal's we're in the
- 21:01Speaker 1: bumless chaps. What were you doing that day?
- 21:06Speaker 3: So yeah, Like in terms of the car itself, the
- 21:08Speaker 3: interior you've sat inside it, what do you think of
- 21:10Speaker 3: the interior?
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yeah? I like it. I think it's you can customize this,
- 21:14Speaker 1: like you're saying to almost anything, this particular one that
- 21:18Speaker 1: you're driving. I wouldn't personally do it like that. It
- 21:21Speaker 1: sort of has these weird if you want to configure
- 21:24Speaker 1: the seat, you know, you want to move it up
- 21:26Speaker 1: and down and across and whatever. It looks like it's glass, Yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 1: it's but it's this kind of brown glass like it
- 21:33Speaker 1: looks like Geny Little's ear rings. It looks like a
- 21:37Speaker 1: nineteen to seventy Scotch bottle, do you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 1: which is kind of cool. But yeah, it's very sort
- 21:42Speaker 1: of I don't know how to describe it.
- 21:44Speaker 2: It's artie.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It's for chicks, it's what that means. But yes, yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 1: it's it's got a it's got a feminim touch about it.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It's got the wood grain on the on the front,
- 21:57Speaker 1: which I think is really cool. The one thing that
- 21:59Speaker 1: I point it out to you was they've gone to
- 22:01Speaker 1: all this effort to put in glass, this stunning looking
- 22:04Speaker 1: kind of glass wheel in the middle and glass on
- 22:06Speaker 1: the sides for adjusting seats and whatnot, and then wood
- 22:10Speaker 1: grain on the dash and then sort of scratchy plastics
- 22:14Speaker 1: at the bottom. It's like, come on, like why do that.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I think the key sportage had that wood grain and
- 22:21Speaker 1: then you know, next to cheap plastics and stuff.
- 22:23Speaker 2: It's like, oh yeah, look.
- 22:25Speaker 1: You're doing that.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I think with the interior they've when I picture a
- 22:29Speaker 3: modern EV this is what I think it looks like.
- 22:32Speaker 3: The huge infotainment displays that one screen, it's like one
- 22:36Speaker 3: screen from the It's the first BMW to features eight,
- 22:39Speaker 3: which is the latest version of their sort of high
- 22:43Speaker 3: drive infotainment system, and it works really well. It's a
- 22:45Speaker 3: big step forward. Great integration with the app. So you
- 22:48Speaker 3: can take a photo of outside the car, a three
- 22:50Speaker 3: sixty photo. You can take a photo inside the car.
- 22:53Speaker 3: If the alarm is activated, it will save the photo.
- 22:56Speaker 3: The sort of vision from inside and outside the car,
- 22:59Speaker 3: so good sort of connectivity with the app and the
- 23:03Speaker 3: tech inside is fantastic. The chairs are like lounge chairs
- 23:06Speaker 3: there as opposed to just seats. They really hug you
- 23:09Speaker 3: in nicely. Even in the second row. There's padding on
- 23:11Speaker 3: the side so you can kind of sleep on the
- 23:13Speaker 3: door if you want to.
- 23:15Speaker 5: It just supports you all, yeah, he's had a few
- 23:19Speaker 5: rough nights and yeah, so yeah, it's it's just a
- 23:22Speaker 5: really beautiful interior and I think they've they've done such
- 23:25Speaker 5: a nice job with that in terms of how it drives.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Look, it does all the ev stuff great, like it
- 23:29Speaker 2: pins you back in the seat.
- 23:31Speaker 3: The specific specification that we're driving here is the X
- 23:36Speaker 3: Drive fifty, which is currently the top spick. There is
- 23:39Speaker 3: an M sixty version coming, so the whole thing kicks
- 23:42Speaker 3: off at around one hundred and thirty five grand, but
- 23:44Speaker 3: this one here is about one hundred and seventy and
- 23:46Speaker 3: that brings with it a pretty punchy drive train, so
- 23:49Speaker 3: three hundred and eighty five kilos of power, seven hundred
- 23:51Speaker 3: and sixty five new meters of talk.
- 23:53Speaker 1: They're good, they're good figures, you know.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Well, the range is actually pretty good as well.
- 23:57Speaker 3: So it has a one hundred and twelve kilo white
- 23:59Speaker 3: our battery, so it's a big battery, but with that
- 24:01Speaker 3: and the power train, it allows you to do zero
- 24:03Speaker 3: to one hundred and four point six seconds and it
- 24:05Speaker 3: has a range of six hundred and thirty kilometers. Just
- 24:08Speaker 3: pretty decent, like you don't feel like you need to
- 24:10Speaker 3: be filling up all the time. The thing I don't
- 24:13Speaker 3: understand though, You can buy literally the cheapest.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Tesla they sell on the market, which is here we go.
- 24:19Speaker 1: What's that number?
- 24:19Speaker 4: Ten?
- 24:20Speaker 1: Oh? Great lunch is now officially on.
- 24:22Speaker 3: So the entry level model three will charge at two
- 24:24Speaker 3: hundred and fifty kilowatts.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Ye, that is the cheapest Tesla you can buy.
- 24:28Speaker 3: This will only charge at well at under two hundred kilowatts,
- 24:33Speaker 3: so it peaks at at one ninety or thereabouts.
- 24:36Speaker 1: We need to put the killer wat thing into like
- 24:38Speaker 1: normal person perspectives. Well, so if you want to go
- 24:41Speaker 1: from yeah, so if you want to go from ten
- 24:43Speaker 1: to say eighty percent, okay.
- 24:45Speaker 3: So basically, according to them, it adds ninety five kilometers
- 24:49Speaker 3: of range in ten minutes, or actually in the extra
- 24:53Speaker 3: fifty it's one hundred and fifty kilometers of range in
- 24:55Speaker 3: ten minutes. So if you wanted to half charge, the
- 24:58Speaker 3: battery would take twenty minutes, which isn't very fast compared
- 25:02Speaker 3: to other cars on the market, like the Oni five,
- 25:05Speaker 3: the Tesla stuff, they all charge at a much faster rate.
- 25:08Speaker 3: So I think that's a little bit disappointing to me.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Is this car worth one hundred and seventy thousand dollars.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Look, I think it is from the point of view
- 25:15Speaker 3: of it being a luxury car. It does luxury incredibly well.
- 25:18Speaker 3: But where we tested it at the proving ground, we
- 25:21Speaker 3: add it on the right and handling track and it
- 25:23Speaker 3: doesn't tick the BMW brief of being the ultimate driver's machine.
- 25:27Speaker 2: It is very floaty.
- 25:28Speaker 3: It feels a bit like a bus to drive, and yeah,
- 25:30Speaker 3: great for highway cruising. It is very comfortable and very
- 25:33Speaker 3: quiet inside. But it's not dynamic and that disappointed me
- 25:36Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 25:37Speaker 1: So those sorts of things are going to come into
- 25:38Speaker 1: play when you're driving through busy traffic, weaving in and out.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Look at it'll be okay there.
- 25:44Speaker 3: It's more if you find yourself on a mountain pass
- 25:46Speaker 3: and you want to have a bit of fun. Every
- 25:48Speaker 3: other BMW product, if you put it into sport mode,
- 25:50Speaker 3: you can have fun with it regardless of what it is. This,
- 25:52Speaker 3: on the other hand, is kind of the opposite. Feels
- 25:56Speaker 3: more like a Mercedes Benz than a BMW. I don't
- 25:58Speaker 3: know if that's a bad thing, but it's Yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Should it be on the list? Are we buying this? Yeah?
- 26:03Speaker 3: Look, I think it's a really good alternative to everything
- 26:06Speaker 3: else Like that e tron I think is just the
- 26:07Speaker 3: worst way you could buy an ev Yeah right, it's
- 26:10Speaker 3: just not very good at all. This, on the other hand,
- 26:13Speaker 3: has lots of arrange. The tech is fantastic, very comfortable,
- 26:16Speaker 3: lots of room inside, but it just doesn't handle very
- 26:19Speaker 3: well and also doesn't charge very fast. But if you're
- 26:23Speaker 3: not too fussed by that, then on an issue.
- 26:25Speaker 1: All right, So what do they do with the bloody
- 26:28Speaker 1: channels these days?
- 26:29Speaker 2: If you want to get in touch with us, contact

- 26:49Speaker 3: will see that as well. But I thought i'd read
- 26:50Speaker 3: out just a couple of sort of bits of feedback
- 26:53Speaker 3: that we've got. Somebody has said your show is hilarious
- 26:59Speaker 3: and informative, really great banter and car my new go to,
- 27:02Speaker 3: Oh thank you, I like this one.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Someone wrote like this pawn channel very much.
- 27:07Speaker 1: There was that one episode where we had too much
- 27:09Speaker 1: to drink and one thing led to another and Paul
- 27:12Speaker 1: showed me a move called the Late Spring Donkey like wow,
- 27:19Speaker 1: And then what about later on where you wanted to
- 27:22Speaker 1: reveal the Croatian mule? That was That was a good episode.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Another one was Paul is amazing, Thank you and.
- 27:34Speaker 1: That is literally not a that is not a review.
- 27:36Speaker 3: And Gordy cracks me up. Very informative and fun podcast.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Half of that's true. Another one informative and well produced.
- 27:43Speaker 3: My new favorite, so thank you know it's coming through.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Paul reads them to his wife and it prevents her
- 27:50Speaker 1: not leaving him.
- 27:52Speaker 3: No, no, there's like a double negative there.
- 27:55Speaker 2: What do you mean prevents her not leaving him, which
- 27:59Speaker 2: means she stays there.
- 28:00Speaker 1: You go, thank you? Yeah, God, you're a bitch. God,
- 28:04Speaker 1: thank you for listening. Please keep the feedback coming. Yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 1: it does mean the world, in all seriousness, It does
- 28:08Speaker 1: mean the world to rate and review and subscribe, because
- 28:12Speaker 1: that bumps this podcast up and gives us some bragging
- 28:17Speaker 1: rights over some of the really shit car journals out there,
- 28:21Speaker 1: don't you think? I think so. I always screenshot them
- 28:24Speaker 1: and send them to other journals. Can I name the
- 28:26Speaker 1: one I send them to? No? Okay, what are we
- 28:30Speaker 1: going to do next? Week.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I don't know, send us an email. Contact at the
- 28:34Speaker 3: drive show dot com today. You let us know what
- 28:35Speaker 3: you want to hear about.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I you know, a couple of EPs ago, you sent
- 28:39Speaker 1: me a challenge to review a Chinese car. Now I'm
- 28:43Speaker 1: going to set the challenge for you to review a
- 28:46Speaker 1: Croatian car.
- 28:48Speaker 2: I think the only one they made was the you
- 28:50Speaker 2: go What's really it was like?
- 28:52Speaker 1: That was actually an old man who used to just
- 28:54Speaker 1: piggyback on. Come on.
- 28:58Speaker 2: The joke was you would buy a bicycle and get
- 29:00Speaker 2: a free you go shit they were.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Is that how funny the Croatians are? That's a joke?
- 29:06Speaker 1: Is that a jake? Is that you trying to be funny?
- 29:08Speaker 1: I think it was actually the truth? Oh my god, Okay,
- 29:12Speaker 1: get out, Okay, I'm going to set a challenge. Can
- 29:14Speaker 1: you give me in a Ferrari?
- 29:16Speaker 2: No?
- 29:18Speaker 1: I try. That was a good challenge. Let's throw the
- 29:20Speaker 1: challenge out to the people. Yes, if you've got something
- 29:24Speaker 1: that you want Paul and I to come out and review,
- 29:28Speaker 1: let us know. Get in contact with us the driveshow
- 29:30Speaker 1: dot com dot use socials on Instagram or email and yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 1: let's do that. Agreed? Yes? Good? Can you get me
- 29:37Speaker 1: in a ferrari,
