- Gary: When you already have enough, what are you afraid will happen if you stop grabbing for more? Good morning and welcome back to North Man Coaching's Seven Deadly Sins. I'm your host, Gary Hults. Today, we are talking about greed through the manna in Exodus chapter 16. The Israelites are in the wilderness, and God provides food for them. Moses tells them to gather according to what each person needs. He also tells them not to keep any of it until morning. But some refuse to listen. They hold on to the leftovers. And by morning, those leftovers are full of maggots and begin to smell. Later, God specifically instructs them to save enough for the Sabbath. So the lesson isn't that preparing for tomorrow is wrong. It's about whether they'll trust his instructions. That gives us a way to examine greed in our own lives. Sometimes the urge to accumulate comes from fear. What if I don't have enough? What if somebody else gets ahead? What if everything I've built disappears? Those fears can feel very real, but they can also become excuses for choices that hurt people. You keep taking overtime while repeatedly breaking promises to your children. You push for another sale, even though you know the customer doesn't need what you are fucking offering. You tell yourself that you're providing. But you never define what enough would actually look like. Free thinking means questioning the beliefs driving your behavior. Who taught you that having more automatically makes you more valuable? And have you ever stopped to ask whether you believe it? Building security is responsible. Wanting a better life is understandable. But when you are willing to sacrifice honesty, Relationships or peace to keep accumulating. Examine what's running the show. Here's your challenge for today. Finish this sentence. I would have enough if dot dot dot. Be specific, then ask whether that answer reflects your actual needs or a finish line that you keep moving. Choose one action that reflects trust and responsibility. Keep a promise, give within your means, or turn down an opportunity that requires you to compromise your values. Gratitude doesn't require you to stop growing. It helps you recognize what you already have while you grow. Remember, the way you look on the outside is a direct reflection of what's happening on the inside.
