Speaker 2: the show, Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes says hot. That's
• 1:33
Speaker 2: pretty much it, just hot for today and the next
• 1:35
Speaker 2: few days. We have a heat advisory. In fact, high
• 1:38
Speaker 2: on your thermometer today in the mid-90s. Heat index in
• 1:40
Speaker 2: below 100s. Clear and muggy and warm tonight. Low and
• 1:44
Speaker 2: below 70s tomorrow. Pretty much a repeat of today. Heat
• 1:46
Speaker 2: index even warmer if that's possible. Mid-90s. Actual air temperature
• 1:51
Speaker 2: for tomorrow somewhere in the upper 90s. Now, we may
• 1:54
Speaker 2: see some storms on Thursday. Heat index there in the mid-100s.
• 1:58
Speaker 2: Temps in the upper 90s. Scattered storms Friday will at
• 2:00
Speaker 2: least cool off a little with highs in below 90s.
• 2:03
Speaker 2: Looking like some scattered storms on Saturday with highs in
• 2:05
Speaker 2: the upper 80s. If you are looking for that big
• 2:07
Speaker 2: fall cool down, Now that September is here, ain't happening soon,
• 2:11
Speaker 2: according to Brian. Download the Metro News television app for
• 2:14
Speaker 2: Brian and his team of meteorologists and follow along on
• 2:16
Speaker 2: social media as well. We've got a lot to get
• 2:18
Speaker 2: to in the news this morning. Senator Shelley Moore Capito,
• 2:21
Speaker 2: Mayor Goodwin, others on hand yesterday for some talk about
• 2:24
Speaker 2: this lift center in Easton and Charleston. We're actually going
• 2:26
Speaker 2: to talk to Drew Dunlap from the Charleston Area Alliance
• 2:30
Speaker 2: about that coming up a little bit later on in
• 2:32
Speaker 2: the show. I want to welcome into the show now, though,
• 2:34
Speaker 2: Delegate State Representative Democratic Party Chair, Delegate, State Democratic Party Chair.
• 2:38
Speaker 2: I think I've got all the titles in there. Mike Pushkin,
• 2:41
Speaker 2: how you doing, man? I'm doing well. Good to be here.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: How's the summer been for you? It's been great. It's
• 2:46
Speaker 2: been great. Very productive.
• 2:47
Speaker 6: And Labor Day, I love Labor Day because it's, first
• 2:50
Speaker 6: of all, It's the beginning of football season.
• 2:53
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 2:53
  Speaker 7: Yes, it is.
• 2:54
Speaker 6: But it's time for all of these campaigns to kick
• 2:57
Speaker 6: into high gear, and we have a great slate of candidates.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: At least that's the way it used to be. I
• 3:00
Speaker 2: was going to bring that up. It used to be
• 3:01
Speaker 2: Labor Day was always when everything really kicked off. And
• 3:04
Speaker 2: the modern campaign cycles, I mean, is Labor Day still
• 3:09
Speaker 2: what it used to be? It's still what it was
• 3:12
Speaker 2: for me, yeah. No, I mean as far as campaigning.
• 3:14
  Speaker 8: No.
• 3:15
Speaker 6: I think for the bigger races that you're seeing across
• 3:19
Speaker 6: the country, those unfortunately go on all the time. But
• 3:22
Speaker 6: I think for the down-ballot races, yeah, Labor Day is
• 3:25
Speaker 6: still– to me, it's the kickoff of campaign season. I
• 3:28
Speaker 6: know I don't put out any yard signs or anything
• 3:30
Speaker 6: until after Labor Day. That's how I would run my campaign. But, yeah,
• 3:36
Speaker 6: I think that's when people start thinking about the fall
• 3:37
Speaker 6: election because it's fall.
• 3:40
Speaker 2: Labor Day is the beginning of fall. What have you
• 3:42
Speaker 2: made so far? Also the beginning of football season. We'll
• 3:45
Speaker 2: talk about football. We always factor in football and music
• 3:49
Speaker 2: in there at some point. whenever you're on the show.
• 3:51
Speaker 2: But what have you made so far on the national elections?
• 3:54
Speaker 2: I mean, you know, some of the, like some of
• 3:56
Speaker 2: the primaries and things that we've already seen, any particular
• 4:00
Speaker 2: that kind of stick out to you?
• 4:01
Speaker 6: Well, I mean, I think a lot of people are
• 4:03
Speaker 6: reading too much into it, whether this party needs to
• 4:06
  Speaker 6: move further this.
• 4:07
Speaker 2: Way or that way.
• 4:08
Speaker 6: Look, we have, you know, obviously in the United States,
• 4:09
Speaker 6: we have a two-party system, which means both parties are
• 4:13
Speaker 6: going to have to, you know, cast a pretty wide net.
• 4:15
Speaker 6: I think it really depends on the district or, you know,
• 4:18
Speaker 6: the state that they're running in. who that best fit
• 4:21
Speaker 6: for that electorate is. And that's what you're seeing shape
• 4:24
Speaker 6: up in the primaries. I still say the Democrats have
• 4:28
Speaker 6: a very good chance this year in picking up a
• 4:31
Speaker 6: lot of seats, maybe flipping the House of Representatives, and
• 4:34
Speaker 6: who knows, also flipping the U.S.
• 4:36
  Speaker 2: Senate.
• 4:37
Speaker 6: And we like our candidates here as well. And we
• 4:39
Speaker 6: have great candidates here in West Virginia, and we plan to, well,
• 4:43
  Speaker 6: we'll just see.
• 4:44
Speaker 2: We'll just see. I want to, we'll get to that
• 4:45
Speaker 2: a little bit later on, but the state Democratic Party
• 4:48
Speaker 2: has a big shindig plan. When is that? And tell
• 4:50
Speaker 2: us about your speaker.
• 4:51
Speaker 6: Yeah, the Roosevelt, annual Roosevelt Kennedy dinner is going to
• 4:55
Speaker 6: take place on October the 3rd here in Charleston at,
• 4:58
Speaker 6: over at Benny Keddem over on Courier Street. And yeah,
• 5:02
Speaker 6: the keynote speaker for the evening is the chair of
• 5:06
Speaker 6: the DNC, Ken Martin. So he will be joining us.
• 5:09
  Speaker 6: I believe it's the first time that we've had a
• 5:11
Speaker 6: sitting chair of the DNC join us here.
• 5:13
  Speaker 2: In West Virginia.
• 5:14
  Speaker 9: Yeah.
• 5:15
Speaker 6: For an event like this. So, yeah, we're really looking
• 5:18
Speaker 6: forward to hearing from Ken. And, you know, he's done
• 5:21
Speaker 6: things differently. And it is, you know, he has there's
• 5:23
Speaker 6: been he's been in the news a lot lately. And
• 5:24
Speaker 6: I think a lot of it has been really rather
• 5:27
Speaker 6: unfair because he's doing exactly what he ran on when
• 5:31
Speaker 6: he ran for chair. And I supported him in his
• 5:34
Speaker 6: run for chair. because he ran on passing the money
• 5:37
Speaker 6: down to the states. This is where the rubber meets
• 5:39
Speaker 6: the road. This is where we know where the money
• 5:44
Speaker 6: is most effectively spent. So, yeah, he has raised a
• 5:47
Speaker 6: lot of money for the DNC, but even in this midterm,
• 5:51
Speaker 6: which is usually the responsibility of the DCCC or the DSCC, well,
• 5:55
Speaker 6: the DNC has passed money down to state parties, and
• 5:58
Speaker 6: that's what's going on. And that's exactly what he said
• 6:01
Speaker 6: he was going to do.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: There has a lot been made on the national level, Mike, about,
• 6:07
Speaker 2: I don't want to say fracturing within the National Democratic Party,
• 6:10
Speaker 2: but just different, and this happens with the Republican Party
• 6:14
Speaker 2: as well, when you have different camps that pop up
• 6:19
Speaker 2: their heads. And recently in the news, there has been
• 6:21
Speaker 2: a lot of talk about the Democrat Socialist Movement. Your
• 6:25
  Speaker 2: take on that?
• 6:26
Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say that a lot of it is really,
• 6:29
  Speaker 6: a lot of the split is over-exaggerated. I think there's
• 6:32
Speaker 6: been a split in the Republican Party, especially here in
• 6:34
Speaker 6: West Virginia, when what we saw here in the primary,
• 6:37
Speaker 6: in the closed Republican primary, is that you had, you know,
• 6:40
Speaker 6: Team Morrissey spending millions of dollars to defeat Republican, longtime
• 6:45
Speaker 6: Republican incumbent legislators. And then you had the other side, which,
• 6:51
Speaker 6: you know, the Chamber of Commerce or whether it's Team Justice,
• 6:53
Speaker 6: whatever you want to call it, spending money against that
• 6:57
  Speaker 6: other side.
• 6:57
  Speaker 2: I'd say they're way more fractured here. I think it's.
• 7:00
Speaker 6: Important to point out when you're talking about the DSA,
• 7:03
Speaker 6: that is a separate party. They have their own convention.
• 7:06
Speaker 6: They have their own conventions and everything. But if folks
• 7:11
Speaker 6: sign up and they run as Democrats and they win
• 7:13
Speaker 6: the primary, once we get through the primary, you have
• 7:16
  Speaker 6: two choices.
• 7:18
Speaker 2: But there have been those that have said, though, right
• 7:20
Speaker 2: or wrong– and I'll give you an opportunity to defend
• 7:22
Speaker 2: it or whatever– There have been people that said that
• 7:25
Speaker 2: the National Democratic Party, that that's what's getting all the
• 7:28
Speaker 2: attention is the Mondavis and places like that. That's what's
• 7:32
Speaker 2: getting the headlines. Well, that might be what's getting the attention.
• 7:35
Speaker 6: But you also have to point out Governor Spanberger, who
• 7:38
Speaker 6: won over in Virginia in an off-year election. And she
• 7:43
Speaker 6: comes from a different wing of the more traditional wing.
• 7:47
Speaker 6: Or Governor Sherrill up in New Jersey. Those were also
• 7:50
Speaker 6: big wins as well. So, like I said, when you
• 7:54
Speaker 6: have a two-party system, you're going to have this really
• 7:56
Speaker 6: on both sides. But I'd say that there's some serious
• 7:59
Speaker 6: fractures within the Republican Party when you have commentators like
• 8:02
Speaker 6: Tucker Carlson saying the president should be kicked out of office.
• 8:07
Speaker 6: And he's also saying some pretty extreme things as well. So, yeah,
• 8:11
Speaker 6: I think, you know, unfortunately, it's just.
• 8:13
  Speaker 2: A real problem.
• 8:15
Speaker 6: Be an illustration of how divided our political discourse is
• 8:19
  Speaker 6: today all around.
• 8:20
Speaker 2: How do we fix it? I don't know. Just be
• 8:22
Speaker 2: nice to each other. What a novel concept. We'll just
• 8:26
Speaker 2: be nice to each other. What a novel concept. I
• 8:28
Speaker 2: was going through some pictures on my phone the other day,
• 8:30
Speaker 2: and I was looking for one in particular because I
• 8:32
Speaker 2: don't know how to categorize them. I was looking for one,
• 8:34
Speaker 2: and I had– There was one show from a couple
• 8:37
Speaker 2: of years ago that I think you were on one
• 8:39
Speaker 2: segment and then Eric Tarr was on a segment or
• 8:41
Speaker 2: vice versa. I got a cool picture of you two
• 8:43
Speaker 2: standing right out in that hallway shaking hands. Well, wait
• 8:47
Speaker 2: till after the election to share that picture. I'm not
• 8:49
Speaker 2: going to share it. I think I shared it then.
• 8:51
Speaker 2: That was two or three years ago. But still, I
• 8:53
Speaker 2: think it just goes to show you. And when I
• 8:55
Speaker 2: do this show, sometimes in our green room, our waiting area,
• 8:59
Speaker 2: we'll have people in there that are definitely different people.
• 9:02
Speaker 2: you know, different political ideologies, if not parties, and there
• 9:05
Speaker 2: seem to be carrying on good conversations. I have to
• 9:07
Speaker 2: work with people every day that I disagree with. That's democracy.
• 9:10
Speaker 2: That's how it's supposed to work. Now, I think it
• 9:12
  Speaker 2: would work a.
• 9:13
Speaker 6: Lot better if there were a lot more Democrats in
• 9:16
Speaker 6: office and then we might have some oversight and some
• 9:18
Speaker 6: real checks and balances going on. I think it is
• 9:20
Speaker 6: dangerous when we have one side that is controlling every
• 9:23
Speaker 6: aspect of our government. But didn't we have that for
• 9:27
Speaker 6: 83 years? That's when we get into some really bad legislations.
• 9:30
Speaker 6: Didn't we have that for years with the Democrats controlling
• 9:32
Speaker 6: West Virginia? A lot of the– well, I'll just point
• 9:34
Speaker 6: this out. Some of those folks who were Democrats then
• 9:37
Speaker 6: are Republicans now. So a lot of it is the
• 9:39
Speaker 6: same people, and a lot of the money that was
• 9:40
Speaker 6: behind it are coming from the same organizations that have
• 9:45
Speaker 6: always supported the status quo. So, yeah, I would like–
• 9:48
Speaker 6: I think if you want to shake things up this
• 9:50
Speaker 6: year in West Virginia, and I know that's a lot
• 9:52
Speaker 6: of folks in West Virginia do because they feel that
• 9:55
Speaker 6: they're getting the you know the short end of the
• 9:57
Speaker 6: stick if you want to shake things up your protest
• 10:00
Speaker 6: vote is voting for a democrat this year in west
• 10:03
Speaker 6: virginia if you want to hold elected officials accountable if
• 10:06
Speaker 6: you want to uh bring uh you know checks and
• 10:08
Speaker 6: balances back then bring some sanity back to our state
• 10:11
Speaker 6: government vote for the democrat.
• 10:12
Speaker 2: On the ballot I was talking to a candidate the
• 10:15
Speaker 2: other day, a longtime friend of mine who is a
• 10:17
Speaker 2: Democrat and who is running, and I won't say what district,
• 10:19
Speaker 2: but he's running for office in West Virginia. And I
• 10:22
Speaker 2: talked to him at an event and I just said,
• 10:23
Speaker 2: so how do you, what's your strategy like? And he
• 10:27
Speaker 2: just said, look, I am a West Virginia Democrat. He said,
• 10:30
Speaker 2: I don't pay attention to what goes on in Washington.
• 10:33
Speaker 2: I don't pay attention to the National Party. I am
• 10:35
Speaker 2: a West Virginia Democrat. And that's what I'm going to
• 10:38
Speaker 2: tell people, that I am just an old school West
• 10:40
Speaker 2: Virginia Democrat. Are there– I mean, obviously, there's one. Are
• 10:44
Speaker 2: there more of those folks out there, Mike, that are
• 10:46
Speaker 2: just– that identify as just old-school West Virginia, tend to
• 10:49
Speaker 2: be a little bit more conservative in some of their views,
• 10:53
Speaker 2: but they have a D after their name?
• 10:54
Speaker 6: Yeah, they are still out there, and I think they
• 10:56
Speaker 6: need to just look at the issues and how it
• 10:58
Speaker 6: affects their day-to-day lives.
• 10:59
Speaker 2: What we've been calling kitchen table.
• 11:01
Speaker 6: Issues, what they're able to afford at the grocery store,
• 11:04
Speaker 6: what they're able to afford at the gas pump. and
• 11:07
Speaker 6: see if this past decade of the Republican rule over
• 11:12
Speaker 6: whether it's the governor's mansion and the supermajority in the legislature,
• 11:16
Speaker 6: just how that's working out for them. With some of
• 11:21
Speaker 6: the policy coming out of Washington, D.C., we have tens
• 11:24
Speaker 6: of thousands of West Virginians who are set to lose
• 11:26
Speaker 6: their health care. Some just today, I believe, are seeing
• 11:31
Speaker 6: their insurance rates skyrocket because they're no longer getting those
• 11:34
Speaker 6: subsidies if they're an independent contractor or a small business owner.
• 11:38
Speaker 6: And here on a local level, we have misguided legislation
• 11:41
Speaker 6: coming from Governor Morrissey and the Republicans to just roll
• 11:44
Speaker 6: out the red carpet and bend over backwards for data
• 11:47
Speaker 6: centers where the tax structure is set up in a
• 11:50
Speaker 6: way where the state really gets not a whole lot
• 11:53
Speaker 6: out of it and just give away to these multinational corporations.
• 11:57
Speaker 6: They're able to come in here without any kind of
• 12:00
Speaker 6: regulation on the local level. The House Bill 2014 completely
• 12:04
Speaker 6: took away local control. And I think people are fed up.
• 12:07
Speaker 6: And I said, you want to restore some sanity and
• 12:10
Speaker 6: some oversight to government, vote for the Democrat. If you
• 12:13
Speaker 6: look at the roll call vote on House Bill 2014
• 12:16
Speaker 6: in the House, it was largely a partisan vote. Happy
• 12:19
Speaker 6: to say the Democrats voted against it. It was a
• 12:21
Speaker 6: really bad bill a couple of years ago. It took
• 12:23
Speaker 6: away local control over any kind of regulation of data centers.
• 12:27
Speaker 6: It created this tax structure where the state and the
• 12:30
Speaker 6: counties really don't get a whole lot out of it,
• 12:33
Speaker 6: and there's absolutely no protection for our water. So once again,
• 12:37
Speaker 6: West Virginians are pawns in this game, and they're taking
• 12:43
Speaker 6: our resources, and we get nothing back from it.
• 12:45
Speaker 2: There was a big announcement yesterday, and I need to
• 12:47
Speaker 2: go to break. I'll have you hang out during the break.
• 12:49
Speaker 2: We'll bring you back about this lift center in Charleston.
• 12:52
Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, we are going to talk
• 12:53
Speaker 2: to Andrew Dunlap with the Charleston Area Alliance about that
• 12:56
Speaker 2: during the next segment, segment after next, I should say,
• 12:59
Speaker 2: about that. But you were sending me some information on
• 13:02
Speaker 2: that yesterday, so I'll let you get into that when
• 13:04
Speaker 2: we come back from the break.
• 13:05
  Speaker 1: It's 921.
• 13:06

• 13:36
Speaker 10: Why do people trust Peyton Law Firm for personal injury
• 13:40
Speaker 10: claims in West Virginia? Simple. Tom and Harvey Peyton are
• 13:44
Speaker 10: lifelong West Virginians. They live here, they work here, and
• 13:47

• 16:14
Speaker 2: is here. You mentioned about the dinner, your big celebration
• 16:17
Speaker 2: coming up, but you did not mention where people can
• 16:18
  Speaker 2: get tickets.
• 16:19
Speaker 6: Yes, you could go to wvdemocrats.com. That is wvdemocrats.com and
• 16:25
Speaker 6: look up the Roosevelt Kennedy dinner. And that's where folks
• 16:28
Speaker 6: can get tickets or you can get a whole table.
• 16:30
Speaker 2: All right. All right, so– Join us and DNC Chair
• 16:34
Speaker 2: Ken Martin. And it's at the Benny Keaton Shrine.
• 16:36
  Speaker 4: It is.
• 16:37
  Speaker 11: All right.
• 16:37
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 16:37
Speaker 2: All right, so yesterday the announcement was made about the
• 16:41
Speaker 2: Lyft Center in Charleston, and I'm going to get into
• 16:43
Speaker 2: all that. Andrew Dunlap from the Alliance is going to
• 16:45
Speaker 2: join us during the next segment. But basically, I think
• 16:48
Speaker 2: it was, what, four years or so ago to the–
• 16:51
Speaker 2: I may have the year wrong. I don't even know
• 16:52
Speaker 2: if it was that long ago. But it was to
• 16:54
Speaker 2: the date that it was announced that there was going
• 16:57
Speaker 2: to be– this is a long time– I mean, an old,
• 16:59
Speaker 2: old building in the east end of Charleston, been used
• 17:01
Speaker 2: for a variety of things. And it kind of got
• 17:04
Speaker 2: put on hold. Do you want to take it from there?
• 17:06
Speaker 6: Yeah, and I don't know if a lot of the
• 17:08
Speaker 6: funding was coming from the infrastructure bill or if it
• 17:11
Speaker 6: was from the Inflation Reduction Act. But it was legislation
• 17:16
Speaker 6: that passed during the first two years of the Biden administration.
• 17:19
Speaker 6: And I think it's safe to point out that the
• 17:24
Speaker 6: deciding vote on many of those votes was our own
• 17:27
Speaker 6: Senator Manchin. So there was this investment going right here
• 17:31
Speaker 6: in the east end of Charleston. And now, unfortunately, because
• 17:35
Speaker 6: of the Trump administration, I'm going to go ahead and
• 17:36
Speaker 6: say it, because of the Trump administration, they pulled the
• 17:39
Speaker 6: plug on what was supposed to go in that building.
• 17:41
Speaker 6: So there was a tenant. There was supposed to be
• 17:43
Speaker 6: a battery manufacturing facility going in there. And for some reason,
• 17:48
Speaker 6: the Trump administration pulled the plug on that, just.
• 17:50
  Speaker 1: Like they did.
• 17:51
Speaker 6: And, you know, Senator Capito, with all due respect, she
• 17:54
Speaker 6: was one of the biggest cheerleaders for the hydrogen hub.
• 17:58
Speaker 6: up in the northern part of the state, which would
• 18:00
Speaker 6: have also created a whole lot of jobs for West Virginians.
• 18:03
Speaker 6: And for some whatever reason, the Trump administration pulled the
• 18:06
Speaker 6: plug on that project as well. So I think it
• 18:08
Speaker 6: should be stated that this administration has not been good
• 18:12
Speaker 6: for West Virginia. Meanwhile, he puts out this statement yesterday
• 18:16
Speaker 6: talking about rural communities should be grateful for data centers. Well,
• 18:20
Speaker 6: we would have been grateful for this project. battery uh
• 18:24
Speaker 6: manufacturing facility we've been grateful for the hydrogen hub up
• 18:27
Speaker 6: in up in north northern west virginia but for whatever
• 18:30
Speaker 6: reason they pulled the plug on that and want us
• 18:32
Speaker 6: to bend over backwards for data centers it just makes
• 18:35
Speaker 6: no sense but i think it needs to be stated.
• 18:37
Speaker 2: I mean i got a couple of texts here and
• 18:39
Speaker 2: i'm going to talk about the business summit which is
• 18:41
Speaker 2: happening at the greenbrier later this week texas dave isn't
• 18:44
Speaker 2: mr pushkin concerned about the national democratic party having more
• 18:47
Speaker 2: and more socialist and communist in it i don't.
• 18:50
Speaker 6: Believe we have social we don't No, I'm not concerned
• 18:53
Speaker 6: about that. I think that the voters will speak. I
• 18:57
Speaker 6: think– but once you go into that voting booth in November,
• 19:00
Speaker 6: you have two choices. And I think if you want
• 19:01
Speaker 6: to provide some oversight to this out-of-control administration, you have
• 19:07
Speaker 6: to vote for the Democrat.
• 19:09
Speaker 2: Even if they– in some cases, I mean, like as
• 19:12
Speaker 2: the taxer said, they– A lot of the people that
• 19:16
Speaker 2: are running on the nationwide level, not necessarily in West Virginia,
• 19:18
Speaker 2: but on the national level, are not what you would
• 19:21
Speaker 2: call your typical Democrats. Like I mentioned my friend earlier
• 19:23
  Speaker 2: who's running for.
• 19:24
  Speaker 1: I agree.
• 19:24
Speaker 6: I think it depends on the electorate in that particular
• 19:27
Speaker 6: state or that particular district. That's what the– look, I
• 19:31
Speaker 6: have to respect the vote of the primary voters, but
• 19:33
Speaker 6: that's not what we have here in West Virginia. We
• 19:37
Speaker 6: have people who are ready to fight back because the
• 19:38
Speaker 6: people of West Virginia deserve people fighting for them. That's
• 19:41
Speaker 6: what we have in West Virginia. The West Virginia Democrats
• 19:44
Speaker 6: want to put local control back into code in regards
• 19:49
Speaker 6: to regulation. of these giant data centers. We don't want
• 19:53
Speaker 6: to see people kicked off of their health care, which
• 19:56
Speaker 6: you're about to see, like I said, this morning.
• 19:58
Speaker 2: You had a bunch of people who were kicked.
• 19:59
Speaker 6: Off due to the failure of Congress and the Trump
• 20:03
Speaker 6: administration to extend the tax.
• 20:12
  Speaker 2: The subsidies?
• 20:13
  Speaker 5: Thank you.
• 20:14
  Speaker 2: Thanks, Dave.
• 20:15
Speaker 6: I would have gone on forever to get the subsidies
• 20:16
Speaker 6: on the insurance for the small business owners and entrepreneurs.
• 20:21
Speaker 6: We have people here that are fighting for public education.
• 20:25
Speaker 6: We have a crisis right now in our public schools
• 20:27
Speaker 6: because of the failure of Governor Morrissey and the Republican
• 20:30
Speaker 6: Supermajority to take up the school aid funding formula this session.
• 20:34
Speaker 6: After they paid so much lip service talking about it,
• 20:37
Speaker 6: they never actually did it. And now we're seeing more
• 20:39
Speaker 6: and more schools closing. That's what you have in West
• 20:41
Speaker 6: Virginia Democrats, people who will fight for you.
• 20:44
Speaker 2: Texas Democrats usually do the dinner at the Civic Center.
• 20:47
Speaker 2: I assume dining at Benny Keelum is an admission that
• 20:50
Speaker 2: demand isn't there for a bigger venue.
• 20:52
Speaker 6: The Civic Center was already booked. Thanks to the good
• 20:55
Speaker 6: work of Mayor Goodwin and our Charleston Visitors Bureau, the
• 20:58
Speaker 6: Civic Center stays pretty well booked. But no, we will
• 21:00
Speaker 6: fill any room that we're able to put it in.
• 21:02
Speaker 6: But that's why it's over at Benny Kedem.
• 21:05
Speaker 2: All right. Tex says, while as a former Democrat, why
• 21:08
Speaker 2: am I not surprised that there are still no calls
• 21:10
Speaker 2: of condemnation, disavowing, or distancing from the leader of the
• 21:13
Speaker 2: Western Democratic Party, a party of the communist or radical
• 21:17
Speaker 2: Islamic takeover of not only your party, but a lot
• 21:19
Speaker 2: of cities and states? By the way, there's no such
• 21:21
Speaker 2: thing as a Democratic, socialist, democracy, and socialism cannot exist.
• 21:25
Speaker 6: Those are two separate parties. Like I say, the DSA
• 21:28
Speaker 6: has their own convention. We have our own convention. So
• 21:33
Speaker 6: that's not the Democrats that I have the honor of
• 21:35
Speaker 6: serving with. That's not who we are. And you know what?
• 21:38
Speaker 6: There's going to be a lot more of us next year.
• 21:40
Speaker 2: Thanks to the Democrats, the DSA is an imaginary feud
• 21:44
Speaker 2: concocted by the GOP and their media apparatus because the
• 21:48
Speaker 2: conservative policies are trash. Any riffs brought up by conservative
• 21:51
Speaker 2: media or on their donors platform should be considered propaganda
• 21:55
Speaker 2: and disregarded. Conservatives, the GOP, MAGAs are not winning, so
• 21:58
Speaker 2: they will lash out, sling mud and lie.
• 22:00
Speaker 6: You know, people want to bring up what we should
• 22:02
Speaker 6: be condemning this group of Democrats or that. I still
• 22:05
Speaker 6: haven't heard anything from Roger Hanshaw or Majority Leader Pat
• 22:10
Speaker 6: McGeehan in regards to Ian Masters that put out a
• 22:13
Speaker 6: blatantly anti-Semitic and racist tweet two years ago. And still,
• 22:19
Speaker 6: absolutely nothing has been done, no words about that. So
• 22:22
Speaker 6: there's a lot of extremism over on the other side
• 22:25
Speaker 6: as well that completely gets swept under the rug, especially
• 22:29
Speaker 6: here in West Virginia.
• 22:30
Speaker 2: Never heard a peep out of them. I think they
• 22:32
Speaker 2: said they were going to conduct this investigation about how
• 22:35
Speaker 2: he gave an old cell phone to a friend who
• 22:38
Speaker 2: made these racist and anti-Semitic remarks. I've not seen the
• 22:42
Speaker 2: results of that investigation. So let's not be hypocritical. Mike
• 22:46
Speaker 2: Pushkin is your state Democratic Party chair and delegate. 931,
• 22:49
Speaker 2: the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live, brought to you
• 22:51
Speaker 2: in part by the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds are on
• 22:53
Speaker 2: the road this week in Lexington, then High Point after that.
• 22:56
  Speaker 2: They're back at Go-Mart Ballpark September 11th. Check out DirtyBirdsBaseball.com.
• 23:00
Speaker 2: A lot of the business leaders, Mike, and elected officials
• 23:02
Speaker 2: from around the state are going to be at the
• 23:03
Speaker 2: Greenbrier later this week for the... I heard it's under
• 23:07
Speaker 2: new management. Well, it's on its way there. The business summit.
• 23:12
Speaker 2: I know that programming note that Wilson and Meadows will
• 23:15
Speaker 2: be doing talk line live from there tomorrow and Thursday.
• 23:19
Speaker 2: These things always make for interesting gatherings because, you know,
• 23:22
Speaker 2: all of the higher ups in the state, especially the
• 23:25
Speaker 2: Republican Party, will be there. Senator Capito will be there.
• 23:28
Speaker 2: I mean, just go on down the list. And Governor
• 23:31
Speaker 2: Patrick Morrissey and Senator Jim Justice.
• 23:34
  Speaker 13: Wow.
• 23:35
Speaker 6: Maybe they'll be on stage at the same time and
• 23:37
Speaker 6: they could, you know, instead of exchanging tweets at each other,
• 23:40
Speaker 6: they can actually have a civil discourse.
• 23:42
Speaker 2: But I wouldn't hold my breath. No, it's embarrassing.
• 23:44
Speaker 6: I think, you know, you're referring to the little dust
• 23:46
Speaker 6: up that happened last week where Governor Morrissey and Senator
• 23:50
Speaker 6: Justice were taking cheap shots at each other on social media.
• 23:54
Speaker 6: And I find it quite embarrassing when two people that
• 23:57
Speaker 6: we need to actually be leaders are acting like schoolchildren
• 24:01
Speaker 6: on social media and having this little public fight when
• 24:06
Speaker 6: we've got people in West Virginia that still don't have
• 24:08
Speaker 6: clean drinking water. We have schools closing. We have real
• 24:12
Speaker 6: issues here in West Virginia, and these quote-unquote leaders are
• 24:18
Speaker 6: not acting very maturely. They're attacking each other on social media.
• 24:22
Speaker 6: It was really– I said it's embarrassing, but to me
• 24:26
Speaker 6: it's kind of like watching Pitt play Penn State back
• 24:29
Speaker 6: in the old days. I can't really root for either side.
• 24:32
  Speaker 6: I don't like either side.
• 24:33
Speaker 2: I hope they just knock each other out. So do
• 24:36
Speaker 2: you think Jim Justice comes back and runs for governor?
• 24:39
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 24:39
Speaker 6: I know that he didn't really seem to have much
• 24:42
Speaker 6: interest in being governor when he was governor. He never
• 24:44
Speaker 6: showed up for work, and the results really– to me,
• 24:47
Speaker 6: the results spoke for themselves. You had Child Protective Services
• 24:52
Speaker 6: that was in complete disarray and thousands of children in
• 24:56
Speaker 6: state custody suffered for that. You had many state agencies
• 25:00
Speaker 6: that were just the work wasn't getting done because the
• 25:03
Speaker 6: chief executive wasn't showing.
• 25:04
  Speaker 2: Up for work.
• 25:06
Speaker 6: Now, that is not the issue that I have with
• 25:09
Speaker 6: Governor Morrissey. Governor Morrissey does show up for work. Unfortunately,
• 25:13
Speaker 6: he does not. incredibly bad things when he does show
• 25:17
Speaker 6: up for work, whether it's taking money out of his
• 25:19
Speaker 6: contingency fund and funding, uh, a Ferris wheel and, you know,
• 25:24
Speaker 6: paying what, $ 300, 000 to bring back Alabama for a concert or,
• 25:28
Speaker 6: or more than that, you know, or deciding to stop the, uh,
• 25:31
Speaker 6: school clothing vouchers right before school starts. So, you know,
• 25:34
Speaker 6: families in need aren't able to go out and get some, uh,
• 25:36
Speaker 6: decent school clothes for their kids. Uh, whether it's failing
• 25:41
Speaker 6: to update the school aid funding formula while communities are
• 25:44
Speaker 6: losing their schools. He does the wrong thing, but he
• 25:47
  Speaker 6: is showing up.
• 25:48
Speaker 2: The text says, no, they're not two separate parties. The
• 25:51
Speaker 2: DSA are under your tent, to quote Democratic leaders. They
• 25:54
Speaker 2: have their own convention. Okay. Okay, I need some context.
• 26:02
Speaker 2: It just says it was very dangerous. I guess they're
• 26:04
Speaker 2: saying when the Democrats were in charge, it was very
• 26:05
Speaker 2: dangerous for 80 years. It was very dangerous? That's all
• 26:08
Speaker 2: I got. We all seem to do pretty well. Well, now,
• 26:12
Speaker 2: that's a little bit of a stretch, Mike.
• 26:14
  Speaker 6: I wouldn't say it was dangerous. I said before, I
• 26:17
Speaker 6: think the same people, unfortunately, have.
• 26:20
Speaker 2: Been pulling the strings for a long time.
• 26:23
Speaker 6: Look at those finance reports and follow the money every time.
• 26:28
Speaker 2: Well, I mean, Look, somebody pointed out– a texter pointed
• 26:31
Speaker 2: out to me on the show one time when I
• 26:33
Speaker 2: have– I've been guilty of saying, well, the Democrats were
• 26:35
Speaker 2: in charge for 83 years, and I've said that more often,
• 26:38
Speaker 2: probably the one I should. Somebody pointed out to me
• 26:40
Speaker 2: one time and said, but liberals were never in charge
• 26:43
Speaker 2: of West Virginia. Democrats were, but there was always a
• 26:45
Speaker 2: couple every session. The progressive wing of the party was
• 26:50
Speaker 2: never really in charge. You guys prefer the term progressive,
• 26:52
Speaker 2: but the progressive wing was really never in charge.
• 26:55
Speaker 6: No, and that's correct. And that's because the same folks
• 26:57
Speaker 6: have been pulling the strings for a long time. And
• 26:59
Speaker 6: a lot of the folks who were in power back
• 27:01
Speaker 6: then who had a D after their name now have
• 27:04
Speaker 6: an R after their name. And that's where the big
• 27:09
Speaker 6: corporate money is following them to.
• 27:10
Speaker 2: All right. Anything else on your mind before we start
• 27:15
Speaker 2: talking football? Because you and I always do.
• 27:17
Speaker 6: Once again, if you want to get tickets for the
• 27:19
Speaker 6: Roosevelt Kennedy dinner, we'd love to have you down there.
• 27:21
Speaker 6: Go to wvdemocrats.com. And, you know, get some tickets to
• 27:26
Speaker 6: the dinner. We're going to have good food. We're going
• 27:27
Speaker 6: to have music from the Carpenter Ants. And we're going
• 27:29
Speaker 6: to be joined by the chairman of the DNC, Ken Martin. And,
• 27:32
Speaker 6: you know, get a table. Don't just get a couple
• 27:34
  Speaker 6: of tickets.
• 27:35
Speaker 2: Any chance that you're going to be on stage that
• 27:37
Speaker 2: night as far as performing? I might sit in with
• 27:39
Speaker 2: the Carpenter Ants. I've done that before. Okay. They're a
• 27:42
Speaker 2: great band. They're fantastic. They're a very good band. They're versatile. Yeah,
• 27:45
Speaker 2: we could sit in with them. A little bit of everything. Yeah,
• 27:47
Speaker 2: that's what they'll do. All right.
• 27:48
Speaker 6: How's your Jets going to do this year? I'm looking
• 27:51
Speaker 6: for Super Bowl tickets. I saw the second preseason.
• 27:54
Speaker 2: What two teams do you think will be in it?
• 27:57
Speaker 2: I don't know. But, okay, Cowboys and the Jets. We'll
• 28:00
Speaker 2: both go. If the Cowboys are in the Jets, are
• 28:02
Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl, we're going.
• 28:03
  Speaker 13: We're going.
• 28:04

Speaker 2: and state funds. Senator Capito, Mayor Goodwin, along with members
• 31:10
Speaker 2: of the business community, Charleston Area Alliance, and others were

• 31:19
Speaker 2: He joins us this morning. Good morning, sir. Welcome to
• 31:21
  Speaker 2: the show.
• 31:21
  Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave.
• 31:22
  Speaker 10: How are you?
• 31:23
Speaker 2: I'm fine. A little background here, and feel free to
• 31:25
Speaker 2: jump in if I get something wrong, which I frequently do.
• 31:28
Speaker 2: It was built in 1910 and was the home of
• 31:32
Speaker 2: the Kanawha manufacturing plant, mainly coal industry stuff through the years. 55,000
• 31:37
Speaker 2: square feet on eight acres. Originally announced actually four years ago,
• 31:43
Speaker 2: four years ago this week as part of a Biden
• 31:45
Speaker 2: administration plan to revitalize the area, And in case you
• 31:48
Speaker 2: were wondering, I did a little homework here. LIFT stood
• 31:50
Speaker 2: for Learning, Innovation, Food, and Technology. And the original plans
• 31:55
Speaker 2: were to focus on healthy food, production, things of that nature.
• 31:59
Speaker 2: One reason or another, it got put on hold, and
• 32:01
Speaker 2: now it's back again, hopefully.
• 32:03
Speaker 5: It is back again.
• 32:04
Speaker 15: I think this is going to be a really significant
• 32:06
Speaker 15: project for the region, really. Kanawha Manufacturing actually started around 1900.
• 32:10
Speaker 15: They're a little bit older than that as Kanawha Mine Car.
• 32:13
Speaker 15: So you're right, they did create mine cars and a
• 32:15
Speaker 15: lot of different things for the mining industry. They diversified
• 32:19
Speaker 15: over the year. It was a fantastic family-owned business. They
• 32:22
Speaker 15: contributed quite a bit to the region through jobs. And actually,
• 32:26
Speaker 15: if you're coming in on 64 or coming down from
• 32:28
Speaker 15: the airport, the Welcome to Charleston signs were actually made
• 32:31
  Speaker 15: by Kanawha Manufacturing.
• 32:32
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 32:32
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 32:33
Speaker 15: They were a huge part of the community. But they
• 32:36
Speaker 15: were done with their business, basically, and there was no
• 32:39
Speaker 15: plan to continue. So they were looking for someone to
• 32:41
Speaker 15: purchase the property. And, yeah, through this grant, we saw
• 32:44
Speaker 15: an opportunity to work with our partners and We've got
• 32:46
Speaker 15: a ton of great partners on this project. We bought
• 32:50
Speaker 15: the property in about 2023, 24. And Kanawha Manufacturing actually
• 32:54
Speaker 15: remained a tenant of ours for about a year. And
• 32:56
Speaker 15: I think they had a sub-tenant as well that was
• 32:58
Speaker 15: doing some manufacturing in the plant. When we acquired the property,
• 33:02
Speaker 15: it's about eight acres. At the time, it was about 150,000, 155,000
• 33:06
Speaker 15: square feet central building. There were a ton of outbuildings.
• 33:10
Speaker 15: There was an office building. There were a few houses
• 33:12
Speaker 15: that they used for an office, for a construction company,
• 33:16
Speaker 15: and a few other things.
• 33:17
Speaker 5: So it was a huge.
• 33:19
Speaker 15: Complex of buildings. So yeah, we let them work out
• 33:23
Speaker 15: their final contracts through that year. We began the design process.
• 33:28
Speaker 15: We did demolition after they moved out, and I think
• 33:30
Speaker 15: that was in 2024, 2025, kind of doing some design.
• 33:35
Speaker 15: And we did have some hopes for who the tenants
• 33:37
Speaker 15: might be that initially went in. We lost a few
• 33:40
Speaker 15: of those tenants over time. They just weren't able to
• 33:43
Speaker 15: do it, which is fine. You know, business needs change.
• 33:48
Speaker 15: But we also, you know, once we bid this out,
• 33:50
Speaker 15: it's a federal project, a lot of federal money. We
• 33:53
Speaker 15: bid this out and we realized that it was going
• 33:54
Speaker 15: to be quite costly to do what the initial vision was.
• 33:57
Speaker 15: So we worked with EDA and they were fantastic to
• 34:00
  Speaker 15: work with.
• 34:00
  Speaker 5: That's the U.S.
• 34:01
Speaker 15: Economic Development Administration. And they were great to work with.
• 34:05
Speaker 15: And what we're doing now is we're going to have
• 34:07
  Speaker 15: a 55,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility It's somewhat of a
• 34:10
Speaker 15: spec building, so it's going to be kind of neutral
• 34:14
Speaker 15: in terms of what could go in there. We could
• 34:17
Speaker 15: have a battery factory. We could focus on energy. We
• 34:20
Speaker 15: could have really almost any type of advanced manufacturing in
• 34:24
Speaker 15: that facility. So what does the ideal tenant look like? Well,
• 34:28
Speaker 15: they're going to have well-paying jobs. They're going to have benefits,
• 34:31
Speaker 15: and they're going to be good community neighbors.
• 34:33
Speaker 2: And this place is– drew pretty solid from what I'm told.
• 34:37
Speaker 2: I mean, because you do have access to the interstate,
• 34:40
Speaker 2: to rail, to river. I mean, it's got a lot
• 34:41
Speaker 2: of things going for it.
• 34:42
  Speaker 5: We do.
• 34:43
Speaker 15: And I think one of the benefits really is it's
• 34:45
Speaker 15: right in the neighborhood. You know, you've got your workforce
• 34:47
Speaker 15: right there. This, you know, one of the real rewarding
• 34:51
Speaker 15: parts for me in working on this over the last
• 34:52
Speaker 15: few years has been getting to know some of the
• 34:54
Speaker 15: neighbors in the community. And they all have great thoughts
• 34:57
Speaker 15: about canal manufacturing. You know, there's a woman across the
• 35:00
Speaker 15: street who's who's into her early eighties, I think, and
• 35:04
Speaker 15: her grandfather actually built a lot of the houses on
• 35:06
Speaker 15: the East end. And she's very excited that we're going
• 35:09
Speaker 15: to put this property back into productive use.
• 35:11
Speaker 2: So how are you and the others going about marketing?
• 35:15
Speaker 2: So we're working with our partners. We do a lot
• 35:17
Speaker 2: of trade shows. We do a lot of trade missions. Um, uh,
• 35:21
Speaker 2: we work with our partners at the office of economic development. Uh,
• 35:24
Speaker 2: we work with site consultants all over the world. Um,
• 35:27
Speaker 2: I actually had a showing scheduled for today that we
• 35:30
Speaker 2: had to put off due to some scheduling concerns. I
• 35:32
Speaker 2: was going to say, I hope it wasn't because of
• 35:33
Speaker 2: this interview. Not because of this interview, yeah. Because you
• 35:35
Speaker 2: can feel free to tell me that you'll come back tomorrow. No, no.
• 35:40
Speaker 2: All right. So you're kind of taking this out, since
• 35:43
Speaker 2: you said working with the economic development folks and whatever,
• 35:46
Speaker 2: to say that you have this facility. And nobody wants
• 35:49
Speaker 2: to say that it's 100% ready to go. You'll have
• 35:51
Speaker 2: to tailor make it or the People that take it
• 35:55
Speaker 2: will have to tailor make it.
• 35:56
Speaker 5: How does that work?
• 35:57
  Speaker 8: Sure.
• 35:57
Speaker 15: So we've got a new roof on it, new walls,
• 36:00
Speaker 15: all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing. We've got new underground drainage,
• 36:06
Speaker 15: the new sanitary system, the new storm sewer system. Everything
• 36:10
Speaker 15: is new coming into it and ready to go for
• 36:13
Speaker 15: a manufacturer that needs a building like this.
• 36:15
Speaker 5: And it's got some unique attributes.
• 36:17
Speaker 15: Canal manufacturing had a pretty extensive crane system, so the
• 36:21
Speaker 15: structure can handle pretty heavy-duty cranes if that's important for
• 36:24
Speaker 15: a manufacturer. It's got very high ceiling height. It's laid
• 36:27
Speaker 15: out like a long rectangle. So that works for a
• 36:29
Speaker 15: lot of different manufacturing processes. So I think we've got
• 36:32
Speaker 15: some things that we can really sell. So what then
• 36:34
Speaker 15: when I asked earlier, what would the ideal tenant look
• 36:36
Speaker 15: like that? I should have probably phrased that better.
• 36:38
Speaker 2: What I meant was what industry would this be or
• 36:40
Speaker 2: industries would this be best suited for?
• 36:43
  Speaker 8: Sure.
• 36:44
  Speaker 5: The energy industry.
• 36:44
Speaker 15: You know, like I said, we initially there was Marshall Battery.
• 36:49
Speaker 15: Green Battery Institute was going to be one of the
• 36:51
Speaker 15: tenants there. And we would still be happy to have
• 36:54
Speaker 15: somebody come in that does battery manufacturing, for example, rare
• 36:58
Speaker 15: earth minerals. It could be anything, honestly. We would entertain anything. But,
• 37:02
Speaker 15: you know, this isn't a neighborhood. And I will say
• 37:05
Speaker 15: my mother grew up in that neighborhood on Cart Street
• 37:07
Speaker 15: in Piedmont. This is not just a random neighborhood. It's
• 37:10
Speaker 15: important to us to be very good neighbors and to
• 37:12
Speaker 15: be selective with who may go in there.
• 37:14
Speaker 2: So I know it's kind of impossible to– state this
• 37:18
Speaker 2: if you don't know exactly what kind of business is
• 37:20
Speaker 2: going to go in there, but best case scenario, what
• 37:22
Speaker 2: kind of an economic impact could this have?
• 37:25
Speaker 15: It could be huge. That's a large facility. It's got
• 37:28
Speaker 15: room for expansion. So they'll have a 55,000 square foot
• 37:30
Speaker 15: building on day one. And we should be done with
• 37:33
Speaker 15: construction by the end of the year. But there is room,
• 37:37
Speaker 15: given that it's an eight acre site, there's room on
• 37:39
Speaker 15: the eastern part towards the capital for another building with
• 37:42
Speaker 15: a square footage of around 20,000. So Really, the sky's
• 37:47
Speaker 15: the limit. You know, if you're talking two shifts, you
• 37:50
Speaker 15: could have hundreds of direct employment, and that can have
• 37:53
  Speaker 15: indirect benefits.
• 37:56
Speaker 5: You know, there could be restaurants that pop up.
• 37:58
Speaker 2: Ancillary businesses are always huge. I mean, the ones that
• 38:01
Speaker 2: go in around. And I think it's unique because the
• 38:04
Speaker 2: last couple of years we've seen the announcements from Nucor
• 38:07
Speaker 2: and all these other places, which are all well and good.
• 38:09
Speaker 2: But to have one that actually is in a neighborhood,
• 38:11
Speaker 2: so to speak, we haven't had a lot of announcements
• 38:13
Speaker 2: like that in West Virginia over the last few years.
• 38:15
  Speaker 5: That's true.
• 38:17
Speaker 15: But, you know, West Virginia has a history of businesses
• 38:20
Speaker 15: like that. If you go back all the way to
• 38:21
Speaker 15: Kelly Axe or the Owens Eye Industrial Glass Plant in
• 38:25
Speaker 15: Canal City, they were right in those neighborhoods. People could
• 38:28
Speaker 15: walk to work and it provided really good jobs for generations.
• 38:32
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 38:32
Speaker 2: So we'll just kind of play the wait and see
• 38:35
Speaker 2: game here, because I know, as I said, you're shopping
• 38:36
Speaker 2: this thing around. And there was a great collaborative effort
• 38:39
Speaker 2: between your organization, the city of Charleston and. elected officials,
• 38:42
Speaker 2: so on and so forth. So what else is going
• 38:44
Speaker 2: on with the alliance? What else has got you excited
• 38:46
  Speaker 2: these days?
• 38:47
Speaker 5: I'm going to kick that one over to my colleague, Erin.
• 38:49
Speaker 2: Erin Noon is here. She's one of the communications people.
• 38:51
Speaker 2: And we told Erin she wouldn't be on microphone. And
• 38:54
  Speaker 2: I'm sorry. It's okay.
• 38:56
  Speaker 3: Happy to talk.
• 38:57
  Speaker 13: All right.
• 38:57
Speaker 2: So what else is going on with the alliance?
• 38:58
  Speaker 13: Oh, my gosh.
• 38:58
Speaker 3: We have so much going on. Just touch on some points.
• 39:03
Speaker 8: Our Charleston Ascend West Virginia program is going really well.
• 39:07
Speaker 3: I'll have Mara on sometime soon to talk about that.
• 39:10
Speaker 8: But next week, we'll have a business after hours at
• 39:14
Speaker 8: Link Automotive, or it used to be called C &
• 39:16
Speaker 8: H Taxi, and now it's Link Automotive.
• 39:19
Speaker 3: And they have a.
• 39:19
Speaker 8: Cool speakeasy type of feel to their business after hours
• 39:24
Speaker 8: called Auto Haas. So come check that out. Details on
• 39:27
Speaker 8: our website and on our social media and in our newsletters.
• 39:30
Speaker 8: Subscribe if you haven't subscribed to the Charleston Area Alliance newsletter.
• 39:33
Speaker 3: It goes out every Tuesday at 4 o'clock.
• 39:36
Speaker 8: And then tonight actually we have And up next, Charlie West,
• 39:39
Speaker 8: which is our young professionals group. We're going to be
• 39:41
Speaker 8: meeting at Ursus Brew Works from 5 to 7. We'll
• 39:45
Speaker 8: have DJ EJ playing and just for an opportunity for
• 39:48
Speaker 8: young professionals in the area to gather and chat and meet.
• 39:53
Speaker 3: And we want to keep them here. So we need
• 39:55
Speaker 3: to have them mingle.
• 39:57
Speaker 2: And hats off for a great event that you and the.
• 40:00
Speaker 2: Greater Huntington Chamber and the Putnam Chamber did a couple
• 40:02
Speaker 2: of weeks ago the State of the Valley. It was
• 40:05
Speaker 2: a sold-out event at Valley Park, and it was a really,
• 40:08
Speaker 2: really great event. It really was.
• 40:09
Speaker 3: Hey, I think I know who moderated that conversation.
• 40:12
Speaker 2: That had nothing to do with it. That had nothing
• 40:13
Speaker 2: to do with it. I just basically showed up eight,
• 40:16
Speaker 2: number one, and then number two went up on stage
• 40:20
Speaker 2: and did my thing. But, no, you guys did all
• 40:22
Speaker 2: the heavy lifting. It was a great event there at
• 40:24
Speaker 2: Valley Park just a couple of weeks ago, so hats
• 40:26
Speaker 2: off to you because– Love those type of events.
• 40:28
  Speaker 16: Yes.
• 40:28
Speaker 2: We had the mayors of Charleston, South Charleston, Hurricane and
• 40:32
Speaker 2: Huntington all there to gather several other elected officials, folks
• 40:35
Speaker 2: like you. Greater Huntington Chamber and the Putnam Chamber and
• 40:38
Speaker 2: just those things are great.
• 40:40
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 40:40
Speaker 2: So, Drew, what is– before we let you go, what
• 40:43
Speaker 2: is next right now? We're just kind of shopping this
• 40:45
  Speaker 2: facility out there?
• 40:46
Speaker 15: We're shopping this facility out there. We've kind of been
• 40:48
Speaker 15: on a slow roll while we're in the construction phase.
• 40:51
Speaker 15: We didn't want to get ahead of ourselves.
• 40:52
  Speaker 13: Sure.
• 40:52
Speaker 15: Yeah, as we're kind of– the end is in sight,
• 40:54
Speaker 15: as they say, and we're ready to really go out
• 40:56
Speaker 15: there and start promoting this.
• 40:58
Speaker 5: And it's a great product to have.
• 41:00
Speaker 15: One of the issues in West Virginia for economic development
• 41:03
Speaker 15: generally is it's tough to find sites that are ready
• 41:06
Speaker 15: to go. And that's what a lot of these folks
• 41:08
Speaker 15: are looking for. So we're at the confluence of three
• 41:11
Speaker 15: major interstates. We're 10 minutes away from West Virginia International

Speaker 2: think that goes without saying. It'll be doubtless. Is the

Speaker 2: Reds scared back? Democratic Party isn't running. Communist candidates be
• 45:46
Speaker 2: for real, says a reporter. Texter text, uh, Pushkin loves
• 45:50
Speaker 2: to poke his head into the GOP tent instead of
• 45:53
Speaker 2: focusing on fractures within his own party. Reason the GOP
• 45:56
Speaker 2: lives rent free and Mike's head is because they're more
• 45:59
Speaker 2: relevant than the DNC says a Texter. Uh, Text, do
• 46:06
Speaker 2: you want to know why the divide has gotten so
• 46:08
Speaker 2: bad between Republicans and Democrats? It's because of snide comments
• 46:11
Speaker 2: and snarky little attitudes the way that Pushkin had. You
• 46:15
Speaker 2: have never said one positive word or one good thing
• 46:17
Speaker 2: about any conservative Republican. It's always condemnation. Get out of
• 46:21
Speaker 2: your little bubble. I'll push back on that to a
• 46:23
Speaker 2: certain extent because he was talking about Governor Morrissey, and
• 46:27
Speaker 2: he said Governor Morrissey does show up for work. He

• 46:53
Speaker 2: themselves as West Virginia Democrats because they're acknowledging that their
• 46:57
Speaker 2: party's crazy. They know it. Otherwise, they would not hedge
• 47:00
Speaker 2: themselves like that. Text, when someone is about to slam
• 47:04
Speaker 2: a person, why do they preface it with all due respect?
• 47:08
Speaker 2: Stats for Pushkin, says the texter. Since January 2024, the

• 47:31
  Speaker 2: says a texter.
• 47:39
  Speaker 1: Text.
• 47:41
Speaker 2: Dave, I have a bone to pick. I texted on
• 47:43
Speaker 2: the midday show about the abandoned manufacturing warehouse shell in
• 47:46
Speaker 2: Shelley Capital. I used the word feckless to describe Shelley,
• 47:49
Speaker 2: yet you omitted that word. Not sure if you're familiar
• 47:51
Speaker 2: with the word, but it's an adjective, which means lacking
• 47:54
Speaker 2: of effectiveness. I'm familiar with the word. When it comes
• 47:57
Speaker 2: to the empty manufacturing warehouse in the East End industry
• 47:59
Speaker 2: in Charleston, a litany of other things, Shelly lacks effectiveness.
• 48:03
Speaker 2: Feckless Shelly Stance. I left that out because I'm just
• 48:07
Speaker 2: not really into the name calling, to be honest with you.
• 48:09
Speaker 2: That's why I left it out. But you got it in,
• 48:11
Speaker 2: so all good. Let me see here. Text says Roger Henshaw,
• 48:17
Speaker 2: Pat McGeehan never had a D after their names. Foolish
• 48:19
Speaker 2: talk by Pushkin. Text, the 83 years of Democrats were
• 48:25
Speaker 2: in charge included the most economically prosperous decades the state
• 48:28
Speaker 2: ever experienced to date. So yet another lazy GOP whatabout
• 48:32
Speaker 2: narrative that doesn't hold up to the slightest scrutiny. A
• 48:36
Speaker 2: couple of quick things in the news. The case against
• 48:38
Speaker 2: Alyssa Middleton, the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority driver. Yesterday's
• 48:42
Speaker 2: attorneys in the case filed a motion requesting that graphic
• 48:47
Speaker 2: video evidence be excluded and from the upcoming trial. Now,
• 48:51
Speaker 2: you know the story. 19-year-old Alyssa Middleton is pled not
• 48:54
Speaker 2: guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of
• 48:57
Speaker 2: an accident causing death and aggravated vehicular manslaughter. John Lucas,
• 49:01
Speaker 2: of course, killed after being dragged for around two miles
• 49:04
Speaker 2: in an ambulance driven by Middleton. Words from the attorneys here. Now,
• 49:10
Speaker 2: the imagery could, quote, this is their words, offend and
• 49:12
Speaker 2: inflame a jury, likely causing them to decide their case
• 49:16
Speaker 2: on the basis of injuries, end quote. A hearing on
• 49:20
Speaker 2: that is forthcoming. The trial was supposed to begin last month.
• 49:24
Speaker 2: It was delayed by both the prosecution and by the defense.
• 49:29
Speaker 2: Middleton's attorneys requested a change of venue. Judge Dave Hardy
• 49:33
Speaker 2: has kind of indicated that's probably not going to happen.
• 49:36
Speaker 2: The next court hearing is set for September 11th. Coming
• 49:40
Speaker 2: up later today, Metro News Midday, powered by Salango Law.
• 49:42
Speaker 2: The new state Supreme Court Justice Kirk Kirkpatrick is on

Speaker 2: the United Way of Central West Virginia will be here.

Speaker 2: They're doing a big, big event in Boone County today.

Speaker 2: you will, with Zach Carroll. That is coming up among

Speaker 2: But you can cheer for both until they play each other.

  Speaker 5: True and true.
