- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, Gator fans. Welcome to A Peek Inside Gator Football.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Allie Peek here. I am excited today. I am joined
- 0:06Speaker 1: by Ike Jones of The War Rapport. We met at
- 0:10Speaker 1: SEC Media Days, and man, we have been waiting for
- 0:13Speaker 1: this week for a while now.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Yeah, this is one that has been circled on the calendar.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I don't know how much, well, no, I do know
- 0:21Speaker 2: how much the coaches are looking forward to this if
- 0:23Speaker 2: you listen to their comments this week, but we are definitely,
- 0:27Speaker 2: as fans, media, etc., I've been looking forward to this
- 0:30Speaker 2: one for sure.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I am definitely pumped, guys. This interview is brought to
- 0:35Speaker 1: you by PrizePix. Don't forget, new users can download the
- 0:37Speaker 1: PrizePix app, play a $ 5 lineup, and use our code.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It's HMA. And if you win, you'll get $ 150 in
- 0:44Speaker 1: lineups instantly. We appreciate PrizePix for all their support. Okay, Ike,
- 0:48Speaker 1: let's get into it. But I think maybe even before
- 0:51Speaker 1: we get into Florida, you've watched every snap of this
- 0:55Speaker 1: Auburn team. They're 2-0, but How good do you actually
- 0:59Speaker 1: think Auburn is right now?
- 1:03Speaker 2: I mean, it's hard to say, right? Because there's a
- 1:06Speaker 2: couple of things that are going to prevent you from
- 1:08Speaker 2: having an accurate assessment. You like the fact that they
- 1:12Speaker 2: got a gritty win versus Baylor, but how good is Baylor, right?
- 1:14Speaker 2: So it's like, did you win close against a bad
- 1:17Speaker 2: team or did you win close against a team that's
- 1:19Speaker 2: actually formidable? You don't know the answer to that until
- 1:22Speaker 2: Baylor gets further into their season. And then you go
- 1:24Speaker 2: out and you play well against Southern Miss, but You're
- 1:27Speaker 2: supposed to beat Southern Miss, right? And so though you
- 1:30Speaker 2: find some positives in that game, you have to be
- 1:32Speaker 2: realistic and say that's a game that you should have won,
- 1:34Speaker 2: probably should have won by more points than you ended
- 1:36Speaker 2: up winning. But, you know, I think good is probably
- 1:41Speaker 2: the best I can give them. I don't think great
- 1:42Speaker 2: or championship level, not yet. If they continue to improve,
- 1:47Speaker 2: you can get to a place where you can start
- 1:48Speaker 2: having different kinds of conversations. But this is going to
- 1:50Speaker 2: be the first real test for this team, in my opinion,
- 1:53Speaker 2: this season from a pure athleticism standpoint. Um, this is
- 1:58Speaker 2: going to be the most athletic team on both sides
- 2:00Speaker 2: of the football Auburn scene so far.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You know, you mentioned that Baylor game and you guys
- 2:05Speaker 1: did win 17, 16, and it really did feel like
- 2:07Speaker 1: you had to grind one out. And sometimes that becomes
- 2:10Speaker 1: really valuable later on in the season. And then, you know,
- 2:13Speaker 1: you took care of business against Southern miss 43 to eight.
- 2:16Speaker 1: What game do you think told us more about Auburn?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Uh, I mean, Baylor definitely told me something right. And, um,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and the reason why it says so much is again,
- 2:27Speaker 2: it's not even so much how good or bad Baylor is.
- 2:31Speaker 2: That's a game. I think Auburn lose the last few
- 2:34Speaker 2: seasons in terms of, you know, seven minutes left in
- 2:37Speaker 2: the fourth quarter tie football game. You need a, a score, right?
- 2:40Speaker 2: You have to score something or it's going to overtime
- 2:42Speaker 2: if you don't get it right. Um, And preferably you
- 2:46Speaker 2: need a touchdown, right? Because you don't want to put
- 2:48Speaker 2: yourself in a position where a field goal ties it
- 2:51Speaker 2: or a touchdown loses the game for you. So you
- 2:54Speaker 2: need to go put seven on the board to put
- 2:56Speaker 2: the pressure on the other team. And you go out
- 2:58Speaker 2: there and you do that. That's not something you've seen
- 3:01Speaker 2: from Auburn the last few years, the ability to go
- 3:03Speaker 2: get a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. And then
- 3:08Speaker 2: to get the stop the way that you did there
- 3:10Speaker 2: on a two-point conversion to just allow yourself to get–
- 3:14Speaker 2: escape essentially with a victory there in that game. Again, that's,
- 3:17Speaker 2: that's something I don't think previous Auburn teams as good
- 3:20Speaker 2: as the defense has been, has been able to close
- 3:22Speaker 2: out in that way. I'd love to see him keep
- 3:23Speaker 2: them out of the end zone, but I do love
- 3:26Speaker 2: the fact that at the end of the day, they said,
- 3:28Speaker 2: we're going to finish this game the right way and
- 3:31Speaker 2: they got to win out of it. And then watching
- 3:34Speaker 2: your quarterback who threw three interceptions, go four on that
- 3:38Speaker 2: drive and get the game winning run there for the touchdown.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It just shows a mental toughness that you want to
- 3:42Speaker 2: have out of that position.
- 3:44Speaker 1: When Alex Golish was hired, everybody knew what the identity
- 3:50Speaker 1: of this offense was going to be, or at least
- 3:52Speaker 1: what he wanted it to be. And you're two games
- 3:55Speaker 1: in now. Do you think it's starting to actually look
- 3:58Speaker 1: like a Golish offense yet?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I wouldn't say so. Not yet. The tempo is there.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I don't think the physicality has been there. Again, I
- 4:06Speaker 2: can't take a lot from being able to run in
- 4:08Speaker 2: a dominant fashion versus Southern Miss because you didn't have
- 4:11Speaker 2: that same dominance in the run game versus Baylor. I
- 4:14Speaker 2: do think they're still trying to figure some things out
- 4:16Speaker 2: along that offensive line, which was always going to be
- 4:18Speaker 2: the biggest question mark for this offense. So until I've
- 4:23Speaker 2: seen them against quality competition go out there and be
- 4:25Speaker 2: able to be physically dominant at the point of attack,
- 4:27Speaker 2: I don't think that you're seeing the kind of football
- 4:30Speaker 2: Alex Golish wants to put out there on a weekly basis.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I do think it's worth noting, though, that Auburn has
- 4:34Speaker 1: already posted consecutive 300-yard rushing games for the first time
- 4:38Speaker 1: since 2021. That's got to make you happy, though.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely. You love the fact that You know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: they the offense, you know, a lot of people have
- 4:47Speaker 2: had criticisms of the offense, I think, fairly. But if
- 4:51Speaker 2: you look at holistically, right, like Byron Brown didn't have
- 4:54Speaker 2: a great game through the three interceptions, but he still
- 4:56Speaker 2: threw at 71 percent clip versus Baylor. He still threw
- 5:00Speaker 2: for over 200 yards in both of those first two games.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So you're talking about 500 yards in offense consistently through
- 5:06Speaker 2: two games with one of those being a powerful opponent.
- 5:09Speaker 2: if you limit the mistakes, which that's been the, the,
- 5:11Speaker 2: the Achilles heel right now, you had the turnovers in
- 5:13Speaker 2: the first time you have a lot of penalties in
- 5:16Speaker 2: the second game. I think that's the biggest concern for me.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Not so much like clean up stuff. It's gotta be cleaner.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And if it can be cleaner, then you can, you
- 5:26Speaker 2: put yourself in a position where you've got a chance
- 5:28Speaker 2: versus anybody. But you know, that's one of those things
- 5:32Speaker 2: where it's like, is this going to be who you
- 5:34Speaker 2: are as a team? That's just going to make mistakes, right?
- 5:37Speaker 2: You're going to, have a decent rushing attack, but then
- 5:40Speaker 2: you're going to have a holding penalty that brings back
- 5:42Speaker 2: a big, you know what I'm saying? So it's like,
- 5:43Speaker 2: we'll see. But so far, yeah, I am happy with
- 5:47Speaker 2: the production that they've had offensively. Got to clean the
- 5:49Speaker 2: mistakes up though.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about Byron Brown. Florida fans
- 5:53Speaker 1: know him all too well. What makes him such a
- 5:57Speaker 1: pain in the neck to defend? Like, is it his arm?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Is it his legs? Or do you think it's maybe
- 6:03Speaker 1: the stress that he creates? Because you really do have
- 6:05Speaker 1: to account for both on every single snap.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's absolutely the stress he creates because if so,
- 6:13Speaker 2: the best way to stop this offense is to be
- 6:16Speaker 2: able to play press coverage on the outside, which usually
- 6:19Speaker 2: means you're going to be in some form of man coverage.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Which means you don't have guys that are going to
- 6:26Speaker 2: have eyes on him at all times unless you spy. Right.
- 6:29Speaker 2: So you're going to that means you have to devote
- 6:31Speaker 2: either a safety or a linebacker to have eyes on
- 6:33Speaker 2: him at all time. Yeah. Um, if they're going to
- 6:36Speaker 2: get the quick passing game going, your DBs have to
- 6:38Speaker 2: be able to tackle in space. All that sounds really
- 6:41Speaker 2: great until you get into a situation where he gets
- 6:43Speaker 2: into a drop back and you're going to rush for,
- 6:45Speaker 2: because you don't want to blitz them because you don't
- 6:47Speaker 2: have enough guys in the back end. And somebody rushes
- 6:50Speaker 2: up the field too far and he takes off running
- 6:54Speaker 2: and one missed tackle can turn into 60 yards. And
- 6:58Speaker 2: it's not even like that. He's like blazing fast. He's
- 7:01Speaker 2: just a really, like he's a difficult guy to tackle
- 7:04Speaker 2: in open field. And so he puts you in a
- 7:08Speaker 2: position where you have to play a certain brand of
- 7:10Speaker 2: football on a consistent basis, which usually means they're going
- 7:13Speaker 2: to be playing some form of zone on the back end.
- 7:15Speaker 2: So that means free releases for the receivers. And that
- 7:18Speaker 2: usually means that they're going to have more opportunities in
- 7:21Speaker 2: the box to be able to run. And again, with
- 7:24Speaker 2: that run, you have to account for him. So you
- 7:26Speaker 2: have to play plus one in the box almost exclusively
- 7:28Speaker 2: against Because if you play too high safety, then you're dead.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Unless you've got an amazing front seven. Like if your
- 7:35Speaker 2: front seven can just handle it, you're fine. But if
- 7:38Speaker 2: you've got to devote a safety down the box or
- 7:40Speaker 2: you've got to play plus one in some other kind
- 7:42Speaker 2: of way, he puts a lot of stress on your defense.
- 7:44Speaker 1: And I feel like Florida fans would probably tell you
- 7:46Speaker 1: TBD on what kind of front seven we have. John
- 7:50Speaker 1: Summerall talked a lot about Golish's offense this week, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: he made some interesting points. He talked about everybody getting
- 7:56Speaker 1: caught up looking at the wide receiver splits. and the
- 7:58Speaker 1: shots downfield, but that it really is the run game
- 8:02Speaker 1: that's going to kill you. So is that accurate, do
- 8:07Speaker 1: you think?
- 8:08Speaker 2: Yeah, no, this is a run first team. It's a
- 8:10Speaker 2: team that if they can't run the football, which is
- 8:13Speaker 2: why they struggled a little bit versus Baylor, they weren't
- 8:15Speaker 2: able to early in that game. Second half did a
- 8:17Speaker 2: lot better early in that game, able to really exert
- 8:20Speaker 2: themselves as a run force. And they got to get
- 8:25Speaker 2: in a position where they're doing that more consistently. But
- 8:28Speaker 2: stopping the run is what you have to do versus
- 8:31Speaker 2: Alex Goldish. If you can't stop the run, it's going
- 8:33Speaker 2: to be a long day because that means, again, you've
- 8:36Speaker 2: got to do something different, right? If the front seven
- 8:38Speaker 2: can't handle it, we got to drop a safety down.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Now that changes what we're doing on the back end.
- 8:42Speaker 2: They can take more shots over the top and pick
- 8:44Speaker 2: their poison on each side they want to go to.
- 8:46Speaker 2: The screen game becomes more effective because you've got guys
- 8:48Speaker 2: that are trying to rush upfield to try to get
- 8:50Speaker 2: there for the run. It means that less guys are
- 8:52Speaker 2: back there to be able to tackle against the screen
- 8:55Speaker 2: that can go off. So, you have to be able
- 8:57Speaker 2: to stop the run versus this team.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So if you are Brad White, how do you defend
- 9:03Speaker 1: Byron Brown? Like you talked about spying him. So, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: you do that. Are you, you know, is being too
- 9:10Speaker 1: aggressive actually kind of play into what Auburn wants to
- 9:13Speaker 1: do here?
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think aggression is what you
- 9:17Speaker 2: have to kind of dictate. Like if you just want
- 9:20Speaker 2: to sit back and, you know, we're going to react,
- 9:22Speaker 2: like you can't be reactive. You've got to decide, And
- 9:26Speaker 2: trust your safeties, your DBs, to make good decisions on
- 9:30Speaker 2: the back end. But you've got to go out and
- 9:32Speaker 2: play a very dictative style of football, whether that is blitzes,
- 9:36Speaker 2: sim pressure, twist stunts up front to try to confuse
- 9:39Speaker 2: what the protection is going to be on drop back situations,
- 9:42Speaker 2: particularly on third and long type of situations. You've got
- 9:44Speaker 2: to be very aggressive versus this defense and decide, no,
- 9:49Speaker 2: we're going to. All right, great. You've got a good arm.
- 9:52Speaker 2: You've got some good receivers. Prove it. Prove they can
- 9:54Speaker 2: get open. prove that you're going to make the right
- 9:56Speaker 2: decision against whatever we're doing in the coverage on the
- 9:58Speaker 2: back end.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Let's flip it around and talk about Florida's offense a
- 10:02Speaker 1: little bit. Jaden Baugh has been outstanding for Florida. Auburn
- 10:06Speaker 1: was excellent against the run last season. Linebacker looks like
- 10:10Speaker 1: it's one of the strengths of your roster, at least
- 10:13Speaker 1: from the outside looking in. If Florida walks into Jordan
- 10:16Speaker 1: Hare and runs the ball successfully, how big of a
- 10:21Speaker 1: problem do you think that creates for Auburn?
- 10:24Speaker 2: It is, you know, I talk about being able to
- 10:27Speaker 2: run the football being Alex Golish's thing. Being able to
- 10:30Speaker 2: stop the run is what DJ Durkin does best. So
- 10:33Speaker 2: if you're going to take away his superpower, that makes
- 10:36Speaker 2: that defense a lot more vulnerable. So they're going to
- 10:39Speaker 2: have a very concerted effort to make it a tough
- 10:41Speaker 2: day for Jaden Baugh. And that's a tall task because
- 10:44Speaker 2: that's a guy who He sees the field really well,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and he's tough to tackle one-on-one in space. And I
- 10:52Speaker 2: know that this team wants to get him going. So
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think that's going to be the chess match of
- 10:56Speaker 2: how do we get Jaden Ball involved in this game,
- 10:58Speaker 2: whether it is handing the football off in a variety
- 11:01Speaker 2: of different ways, getting him involved in the screen game, whatever,
- 11:03Speaker 2: to make sure that he gets going and can impact
- 11:06Speaker 2: that game positively. But Yeah, if he can run the
- 11:09Speaker 2: football effectively, it's going to be a lot.
- 11:10Speaker 1: A break from this video to give some love to

- 11:45Speaker 1: to Alumni Hall for all their support. And make sure
- 11:47Speaker 1: you guys check them out and tell them that Allie
- 11:49Speaker 1: sent you. Let's talk a little bit about Aaron Philo
- 11:53Speaker 1: as well. He's got a lot to prove. You know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: this is his first SEC road start and, you know,
- 11:59Speaker 1: very little experience starting at Georgia Tech. I can't imagine
- 12:02Speaker 1: that he heard the kind of noise he's going to
- 12:04Speaker 1: hear sitting on the bench at Georgia Tech. Like, this
- 12:06Speaker 1: is going to be an environment that he has not
- 12:09Speaker 1: been in at all. What do you think Auburn is
- 12:12Speaker 1: going to make him try and do? You know, essentially,
- 12:17Speaker 1: young quarterback, beat us in Jordan hair, like, come on,
- 12:20Speaker 1: prove it to us. What, what do you think Auburn's
- 12:22Speaker 1: going to make him do?
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be that it's going to be,
- 12:25Speaker 2: we're going to try to take away your, your big
- 12:28Speaker 2: asset in the run game. Now, um, you know, I
- 12:32Speaker 2: think they're going to supplement that with a lot of
- 12:33Speaker 2: the quick passing game. Um, and they're, they're probably going
- 12:36Speaker 2: to let him get a lot of those quick passes
- 12:38Speaker 2: off and just try to rally and tackle, which is,
- 12:41Speaker 2: that is a difficult proposition with the athletes that Florida
- 12:44Speaker 2: has out there in space. But They're just going to
- 12:46Speaker 2: make him be a guy that has to get rid
- 12:47Speaker 2: of the ball quickly and force that offensive line in
- 12:50Speaker 2: particular to block because they're going to bring a lot
- 12:56Speaker 2: of A-gap pressure, a lot of stuff right in his
- 12:59Speaker 2: face to make him try to figure out how to
- 13:01Speaker 2: diagnose quickly, get the ball out of his hands, and
- 13:05Speaker 2: make bad decisions if the opportunity presents itself.
- 13:09Speaker 1: How much of a weapon is Jordan Herr using? itself
- 13:13Speaker 1: in this game. Florida hasn't been in this environment since 2011. Obviously,
- 13:18Speaker 1: they've played in other major conference games, but the Plains
- 13:21Speaker 1: is kind of something different. And from the Auburn side,
- 13:24Speaker 1: how much confidence is there that this environment can create
- 13:28Speaker 1: problems for Aaron Filo and Florida's offense?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that is going to be one of
- 13:34Speaker 2: the things that as an Auburn fan, you hope is
- 13:37Speaker 2: a deal, right? Like that the environment itself is going
- 13:40Speaker 2: to be so loud, so chaotic, and it's going to
- 13:43Speaker 2: make communication difficult. It's going to make it hard for
- 13:48Speaker 2: you to get over a mistake, right? Like because the
- 13:50Speaker 2: place is going to feel like it's coming down on
- 13:52Speaker 2: your head the minute that something happens negatively for you
- 13:56Speaker 2: as an offense. And you have to play through that
- 13:59Speaker 2: and figure out how to get onto the next play.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And like you said, he hasn't had an opportunity to
- 14:05Speaker 2: do this, not as a starting quarterback in a big game. So, yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 2: it's going to be a super huge thing for him
- 14:11Speaker 2: to just remain composed because the emotions are going to
- 14:16Speaker 2: be there. The adrenaline is going to be going, especially
- 14:18Speaker 2: early in the game. You're going to want to just
- 14:21Speaker 2: shut them up really quickly. And if it goes the
- 14:23Speaker 2: other way early, can you rebound and just find a
- 14:27Speaker 2: way to get your footing again?
- 14:30Speaker 1: Where's Auburn the most vulnerable right now? If I am
- 14:33Speaker 1: a Florida fan looking for the matchup where the Gators
- 14:36Speaker 1: have a clear advantage, where would you tell me to look?
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be on the outside. The outside
- 14:42Speaker 2: corners for Auburn, it's not that they're bad, but they're
- 14:45Speaker 2: playing a lot of off-covers. They're not going to be
- 14:47Speaker 2: asked to play a lot of press man, and I
- 14:48Speaker 2: don't think that they're going to try to play a
- 14:50Speaker 2: lot of press versus these Florida receivers, which means they're
- 14:53Speaker 2: going to get a lot of free releases. And so
- 14:55Speaker 2: you've got guys in a VB3 who can in space
- 15:00Speaker 2: be electric, right? And so you have to figure out
- 15:03Speaker 2: how to corral him when he gets the ball in
- 15:06Speaker 2: open space. You got a Dallas Wilson who can, you know,
- 15:08Speaker 2: contest a catch guy. You've got guys that can go
- 15:11Speaker 2: and make plays on the outside. And that's really, I think,
- 15:14Speaker 2: you know, as much as I respect Jaden Ball, I
- 15:16Speaker 2: think the concentration is going to be on him so much.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Those guys on the outside are going to have to
- 15:21Speaker 2: make plays for Florida in order for them to be
- 15:24Speaker 2: able to go out there and get the victories.
- 15:26Speaker 1: You know, I couldn't let you off this channel before
- 15:29Speaker 1: we discussed a little special teams and you know, they
- 15:33Speaker 1: matter a lot in close games. Florida has gotten explosive
- 15:37Speaker 1: plays from its punt return unit. Auburn obviously has Alex
- 15:41Speaker 1: McPherson who can hit a 55 yarder. If this becomes
- 15:45Speaker 1: a field position game, how much confidence do Auburn fans
- 15:49Speaker 1: have in their special teams?
- 15:51Speaker 2: All right. So I'm, I don't love our punter. I don't.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Now he is decent at directional punting.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I just don't think that he does a great job
- 16:04Speaker 2: with like flipping the field.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:07Speaker 2: And so I think they're just going to try to
- 16:09Speaker 2: kick it. I don't think they're even going to try
- 16:10Speaker 2: to let Florida return. If they can figure out, I
- 16:14Speaker 2: think they'll take a 20 yard shank before they take
- 16:18Speaker 2: a 40 yard direct punt to them.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I just, I think, it's going to be a game
- 16:24Speaker 2: of keep away in terms of the punt situation there
- 16:27Speaker 2: for Auburn. And kickoffs, you know, they've kicked every kickoff
- 16:34Speaker 2: so far has gone out of the back of the
- 16:35Speaker 2: end zone.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Not even giving them a shot to return it in
- 16:38Speaker 2: that regard. But, yeah, the punting is where it's going
- 16:40Speaker 2: to be an adventure for me. Is he going to
- 16:42Speaker 2: be able to– Hudson Cox, the punter there for Auburn,
- 16:45Speaker 2: is he going to be able to do what he
- 16:47Speaker 2: needs to do to keep the ball? Because I just
- 16:49Speaker 2: don't think you play around with him. Just don't let
- 16:51Speaker 2: him– Listen, we're not going to try to see if
- 16:54Speaker 2: we can.
- 16:57Speaker 1: By the third time Campbell kicked to BB3, I was.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Like, what are we doing on the sideline? I watched
- 17:03Speaker 2: that game and I was like, are you guys serious?
- 17:05Speaker 2: After the first one, I'd have been like, okay, just
- 17:06Speaker 2: don't kick it to him no more. He kicked it
- 17:08Speaker 2: to him again and I was just like, okay, oh,
- 17:10Speaker 2: he's going to return it again. Okay, you kick it
- 17:12Speaker 2: to him a third time. I was just like, so
- 17:13Speaker 2: y'all just want to lose. All right, that's cool. Yeah,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I was.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I questioned some decisions there, but Florida's also had some
- 17:20Speaker 1: questionable special teams for like the last four years. So
- 17:23Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I was just so excited that
- 17:25Speaker 1: we were finally doing things right. Both of these programs
- 17:29Speaker 1: have first-year head coaches trying to prove that their rebuild
- 17:33Speaker 1: is ahead of schedule. So, you know, I've been talking
- 17:37Speaker 1: a lot about this game being a bellwether game. I
- 17:39Speaker 1: think I said that on your program during the summer. Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And it's not that it's the biggest game that either
- 17:45Speaker 1: team will play this year necessarily, but I do think
- 17:47Speaker 1: it's the best early indicator of where each program is.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Is this a bigger week three conference game for Auburn
- 17:55Speaker 1: than maybe other seasons? And what do you think beating
- 17:59Speaker 1: Florida would mean for Alex Golish in year one?
- 18:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a huge game in terms of
- 18:05Speaker 2: the confidence that fans have. I don't think the team
- 18:08Speaker 2: is going to be down on themselves if they don't
- 18:10Speaker 2: win the game. They're going to realize they've got more
- 18:13Speaker 2: opportunities to go out there and get big wins. But
- 18:15Speaker 2: I do think from a fan confidence standpoint, it's enormous because,
- 18:19Speaker 2: as you said, it's going to indicate who's ahead of schedule. Right.
- 18:24Speaker 2: And so whoever wins this game, there is a scenario
- 18:28Speaker 2: where both teams look really sloppy in this. And both
- 18:31Speaker 2: fan bases walk away saying, all right, we won, but
- 18:34Speaker 2: we still got a lot of work to do. But
- 18:36Speaker 2: I think that you'll still feel good about the fact
- 18:39Speaker 2: that your coach was the one that was able to
- 18:41Speaker 2: get the victory in this situation. So, yeah, it's a
- 18:44Speaker 2: huge game, mostly, like I said, from the standpoint of
- 18:47Speaker 2: the fans and the confidence that they have in their
- 18:50Speaker 2: program going forward.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So give me the path to victory for Auburn. Like
- 18:54Speaker 1: what are the three things that absolutely have to happen
- 18:57Speaker 1: for the Tigers to win this game?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to start with, you know, trying to
- 19:01Speaker 2: keep Jaden Bob bottled up. And you have to figure out,
- 19:05Speaker 2: you know, If they're going to hand it off to
- 19:07Speaker 2: him 40 times in the game, okay, great. But you
- 19:10Speaker 2: want to try to limit his yards per touch out
- 19:14Speaker 2: there as much as possible. So it's going to start
- 19:17Speaker 2: there with making Florida have to beat you with Aaron
- 19:20Speaker 2: Philo in his arm, which I think he's capable of
- 19:22Speaker 2: with the weapons that they have. But it's got to
- 19:25Speaker 2: start there. I don't think you win this football game
- 19:27Speaker 2: and Jaden Ball goes off. I don't see that happening. Secondarily,
- 19:32Speaker 2: I think that you've got to force, you've got to
- 19:34Speaker 2: win the turnover battle. Whether you force multiple or just one,
- 19:37Speaker 2: you need to win that battle. I think, you know, again,
- 19:40Speaker 2: the sloppiness that Auburn has had and the mistakes that
- 19:42Speaker 2: they've made in the first two games, they're lucky to
- 19:44Speaker 2: get out of that first game losing the turnover battle
- 19:47Speaker 2: to Baylor 3-2 in that one. But I think you've
- 19:50Speaker 2: got to win the turnover battle in this one, whether
- 19:53Speaker 2: that is mistake-free or you just force more mistakes. And
- 19:56Speaker 2: then I think the last part that you have to
- 19:57Speaker 2: be able to do is be able to throw the football.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I know I said it's a run-first team, but I
- 20:03Speaker 2: think in this game you've got to have Byron Brown
- 20:07Speaker 2: be able to be efficient through the air, And if
- 20:09Speaker 2: the mistakes happen, it doesn't need to come off of
- 20:11Speaker 2: his arm. He needs to be a guy that is
- 20:14Speaker 2: able to go out there and operate. I think he
- 20:16Speaker 2: needs to be able to throw for at least, I'm
- 20:18Speaker 2: not going to put 200 on him again in this game,
- 20:20Speaker 2: but I think 180 is kind of the range where
- 20:23Speaker 2: he needs, because I just don't, I don't know that,
- 20:25Speaker 2: I think points are going to be a premium in
- 20:26Speaker 2: this one.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 2: And so he's got to be efficient. He's got to
- 20:30Speaker 2: be effective and continue to, you know, you mentioned the
- 20:33Speaker 2: field position game, just put some drives together to get
- 20:37Speaker 2: it to where, Even if you're not getting scores, you're
- 20:39Speaker 2: getting a couple of first downs, you flip the field,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and you get closer to a punt putting you close
- 20:45Speaker 2: to midfield so you're in field goal range after a
- 20:47Speaker 2: couple of first downs.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And then turn around for me. If we come back
- 20:52Speaker 1: after this game and Florida has won, what probably happened?
- 20:56Speaker 1: What is the scenario that Auburn fans are probably the
- 20:59Speaker 1: most worried about?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it is to the credit of Aaron Filo.
- 21:04Speaker 2: How does he play in this game? Is he able
- 21:08Speaker 2: to be efficient? Is he able to play mistake free?
- 21:11Speaker 2: And I think he's going to need to do a
- 21:12Speaker 2: little bit with his legs in this game. He's not
- 21:14Speaker 2: known as a runner, but he's got enough ability to
- 21:16Speaker 2: go out there and pick up some third downs with
- 21:19Speaker 2: his leg. I think that they're going to force Philo
- 21:22Speaker 2: to be a complete quarterback in this game, whether it's
- 21:25Speaker 2: operationally with his arm or being able to go and
- 21:27Speaker 2: pick up some stuff with his legs. If he's able
- 21:29Speaker 2: to do that, I think that's going to be a
- 21:31Speaker 2: big thing. And then on the other side, defensively, Florida
- 21:35Speaker 2: has to be better than they've been in these first
- 21:38Speaker 2: couple of games on the outside from their defensive back standpoint.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Like they've got to be more aggressive and more willing
- 21:46Speaker 2: to just say, Hey, you, my guy versus your guy.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I think my guy's better. Um, and, and, uh, force
- 21:53Speaker 2: Byron Brown into some tougher throws and that they've been
- 21:56Speaker 2: getting way too many free access. I think Florida has
- 21:59Speaker 2: enough athletes to not get as many free access throws
- 22:02Speaker 2: as they're giving. Um, so I think that they're going
- 22:04Speaker 2: to have to play better on the outside. All right.
- 22:08Speaker 1: It is prediction time. Who's going to win? What's the
- 22:10Speaker 1: score going to be? What decides it?
- 22:13Speaker 2: This is such a tough one for me to predict.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I do think points are going to be in the
- 22:20Speaker 2: premium on this one. I'm going to be a homer
- 22:23Speaker 2: on it just because I don't want to pick against
- 22:26Speaker 2: my guys. I'm going to say it's going to be
- 22:28Speaker 2: 28 to 24. Auburn gets the win on this one.
- 22:30Speaker 1: 28 to 24.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I said points at a premium. I think both of
- 22:36Speaker 2: these teams are capable of being explosive offensively. I think
- 22:39Speaker 2: if you keep it in the 20s, then that is
- 22:41Speaker 2: limiting both of these offenses. So give me 28 to
- 22:43Speaker 2: 24 in this one, Auburn. All right.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Ike, tell everybody where they can find you on social media.
