- 0:05Speaker 1: Week two of training camp starts today. You guys, Brian John,
- 0:09Speaker 1: what stood out to you in week one?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Good?
- 0:12Speaker 3: No you go? I'd say Calvin Riders overall, you couldn't
- 0:17Speaker 3: ignore him and looks like he's gonna make this team
- 0:20Speaker 3: significantly more explosive.
- 0:21Speaker 4: The receivers group as a total group, right, but in
- 0:24Speaker 4: particularly the big three Ridley Kirk and Jay.
- 0:27Speaker 5: Jones look like they're going to be sensational.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome man, It's Monday, July thirty. First jags Am presented
- 0:52Speaker 1: by Carshield and here's a little look at practice or
- 0:54Speaker 1: getting their stretch on. It's week two of training camp.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Giving you the live look right now and else back
- 1:00Speaker 1: you guys.
- 1:01Speaker 6: Steel's good?
- 1:03Speaker 5: So is that great music?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Did you guys stretch before jag zam this morning?
- 1:07Speaker 6: Are you ready.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Stretch every morning? Stretching is a big part of my life.
- 1:11Speaker 5: The older you get, the more mobility works.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Very true. It's sad, but very very true. You guys
- 1:15Speaker 6: get your stretches in, stay young.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We had a full week last week. A lot of
- 1:20Speaker 1: I was just happy to be out there to see
- 1:22Speaker 1: I think, to see the guys back out there now,
- 1:23Speaker 1: they're gonna get the pads back on this week, so
- 1:26Speaker 1: things will get a little bit more real. What do
- 1:29Speaker 1: you kind of look for once the pads get back
- 1:30Speaker 1: on to you kind of shift your focus to defense, John,
- 1:33Speaker 1: is that what you kind of look at?
- 1:34Speaker 3: Well, not so much defense, but I shift my focus
- 1:37Speaker 3: to the one on one pass rush durils. It's the
- 1:40Speaker 3: I think for fans who come out, that may be
- 1:42Speaker 3: their favorite part of camp. It's the best time to
- 1:45Speaker 3: see offensive lineman work against defensive lineman. If Tony Biselli
- 1:49Speaker 3: were here, he starts saying, WHOAOA. It's really geared toward
- 1:53Speaker 3: the defense because it is geared to make the defensive
- 1:55Speaker 3: lineman look good. But if offensive linemen are playing well
- 1:59Speaker 3: during it, you can tell something. It's that's what you
- 2:03Speaker 3: look for the second week camp. To me, realistically, if
- 2:08Speaker 3: they're working goal line, if they're working run drills, you
- 2:12Speaker 3: see a little bit Brian bit so controlled. Yeah, I
- 2:15Speaker 3: mean and smartly. You have to do that. You're not
- 2:17Speaker 3: getting a feel for where there a guy is gonna
- 2:19Speaker 3: come up and make a huge hit on fourth and one.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Uh So, one on one pass rushes what I look for.
- 2:23Speaker 4: You know, this is where I become the old man
- 2:24Speaker 4: in the room and even though I'm not the oldest.
- 2:27Speaker 4: You remember you weren't here yet, you had not come
- 2:29Speaker 4: back yet, John from Indy. There was a moment where
- 2:32Speaker 4: they did Oklahoma here, right, and you would never do
- 2:36Speaker 4: that anymore, but oh four oh five, oh six, And
- 2:39Speaker 4: it was a great scene. I mean, the fans showed
- 2:42Speaker 4: up and they promoted the whole nine yards and it
- 2:44Speaker 4: was just that it's at the tone, it's at the
- 2:46Speaker 4: tempo right. We're gonna be a physical football team. That's
- 2:49Speaker 4: what I'm looking for, you know, even though it's gonna
- 2:51Speaker 4: be very controlled. I want to see the physicality of
- 2:54Speaker 4: the guys on the line, of the guys like Devin
- 2:56Speaker 4: Lloyd and Trayvon Walker that we're gonna talk about. I
- 2:59Speaker 4: want to see that tough minded football mentality that comes
- 3:04Speaker 4: only from Pats.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Treyvon is definitely gonna be a point of focus for everybody.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Mike Caldwell spoke to us last week and he said,
- 3:10Speaker 1: already he's seeing more confidence from Trayvon when he's out
- 3:14Speaker 1: on the field.
- 3:16Speaker 7: You can see the confidence in him the way he
- 3:18Speaker 7: moves around the field, the way he's more vocal making checks,
- 3:22Speaker 7: and he just understands now that I'm the guy. I'm
- 3:26Speaker 7: the number one pick, but I'm also Trayvon. I'm gonna
- 3:28Speaker 7: be Trayvon on the field, and my Trayvon is good
- 3:32Speaker 7: enough for the Jacks because we trust in his ability
- 3:35Speaker 7: and it's going to show no pay dividends for us.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I think that's an interesting, interesting way of saying it,
- 3:40Speaker 1: because he's more confident, but he's himself, which is exactly
- 3:42Speaker 1: what you want him to be, and you want him
- 3:44Speaker 1: to feel comfortable enough to be himself.
- 3:46Speaker 6: Just the best version of that.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Right, What are you hoping or looking for in that
- 3:51Speaker 1: first week, Brian, to kind of see out of him
- 3:53Speaker 1: that maybe he didn't see last year.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I'd love to see how they're going to use him,
- 3:57Speaker 4: because there's been talk about him having his hand on
- 4:00Speaker 4: the ground more this year because he excelled in third
- 4:03Speaker 4: down situations last year. And I think we're going to
- 4:05Speaker 4: see some and there's a process to integrate Devin Lloyd
- 4:09Speaker 4: and where he fits maybe on the strong side. I
- 4:11Speaker 4: don't think we're seeen an that until the regular season comes.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I like what I see the.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Same thing I saw last year, big, long, powerful, explosive athletic.
- 4:24Speaker 4: I think he's going to be a great player, And
- 4:25Speaker 4: I know people are still questioning that, but I can't help.
- 4:28Speaker 4: But having seen the show that you put together and
- 4:32Speaker 4: knowing the young man like I got to know him
- 4:34Speaker 4: last year, I don't think there's any doubt he's going
- 4:36Speaker 4: to be a terrific player.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you want to see some suddenness and
- 4:41Speaker 3: some signs that he's more move for the right word,
- 4:49Speaker 3: not in the moment, but just more comfortable in the
- 4:52Speaker 3: defense and moving quicker. So I don't know that you
- 4:54Speaker 3: necessarily see it in practice. I like to see one
- 4:57Speaker 3: or two plays where you go, Okay, Wow, there it is.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I don't know that Trayvon is ever going to be
- 5:02Speaker 3: a fifteen sack guy. I am as sure as I
- 5:08Speaker 3: can be that he's going to be a very very
- 5:10Speaker 3: good player and be able to do special things. I
- 5:13Speaker 3: just don't know if the stats are going to add up,
- 5:16Speaker 3: you know, So am I looking for one on one
- 5:19Speaker 3: pass rush out of him. I'd love to see him
- 5:21Speaker 3: all of a sudden, why this is a great sack guy.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I don't know if he's going to stand out in
- 5:26Speaker 3: that sort of drill, but I think he will have
- 5:28Speaker 3: moments this week where you say, Okay, he's getting it there.
- 5:31Speaker 3: It is, there's the quicker step, sort of like cop
- 5:34Speaker 3: talk about Devin Lloyd last week, I think we'll see
- 5:36Speaker 3: some of those same recognition improvement out of Trayvon.
- 5:39Speaker 5: We talked about it last week.
- 5:40Speaker 4: He made those two plays, one in each of the
- 5:42Speaker 4: Titans games, that swung the game and created the division
- 5:47Speaker 4: title and the playoffs. I'm going to keep a running
- 5:49Speaker 4: title tally of plays that he makes this year that
- 5:53Speaker 4: don't show up in the stats column, that aren't sacks,
- 5:55Speaker 4: that changed the direction of the game, and at the
- 5:58Speaker 4: end of the year, we'll decide, you know, was he
- 6:01Speaker 4: impactful or not based on that nut sacks.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Trayvon's play will have a big impact on how this
- 6:07Speaker 1: defensive defense does as a whole, even though he's just
- 6:09Speaker 1: a second year player. We talked to Rashaon Jenkins, one
- 6:11Speaker 1: of the veterans on this team. He's expecting very good
- 6:14Speaker 1: things from the d this year.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Man, that we're top five defense in the league and
- 6:18Speaker 8: that's and that's just real. Uh, you know, I feel
- 6:21Speaker 8: like we put some good things on film last year,
- 6:23Speaker 8: but this year is just being is about being more consistent.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Uh.
- 6:28Speaker 8: We had some you know, we had some highs we
- 6:29Speaker 8: had some lows, but I don't want to fall two
- 6:31Speaker 8: and seven like we did last year. Just come out
- 6:34Speaker 8: here and not play behind the eight ball. Let's just
- 6:37Speaker 8: let's get things going early and have people have to
- 6:39Speaker 8: catch up to us.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Now, Rashaan Ekzude's confidence so no surprise there that he
- 6:44Speaker 1: thinks they're going to be a top five defense.
- 6:46Speaker 6: John, you were there for this conversation.
- 6:48Speaker 1: What does the team what is the team going to
- 6:51Speaker 1: be able to do if they do play with leads,
- 6:53Speaker 1: you know, as he mentioned, and they're not playing behind
- 6:55Speaker 1: the eight ball. What is this defense able to do
- 6:57Speaker 1: when they have that kind of situation in a game.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Well, it should help the pass rushers dramatically because you're
- 7:03Speaker 3: it's very hard to be a great sack guy if
- 7:06Speaker 3: the other team is always in third and two and
- 7:09Speaker 3: if they are always ten points ahead, because then they
- 7:12Speaker 3: don't have to hold sacks come when quarterbacks have to
- 7:17Speaker 3: hold the ball on third and eight or they have
- 7:20Speaker 3: to they have to make plays because they're desperate. So
- 7:22Speaker 3: it should help the pass rush immeasurably. That to me,
- 7:26Speaker 3: I think is going to be the biggest factor in
- 7:28Speaker 3: making this a better pass rush. I think Josh Allen
- 7:32Speaker 3: and Trayvon Walker are very capable. If they get in situations,
- 7:36Speaker 3: They're both capable of being pressure sack guy. I mean
- 7:40Speaker 3: not pressure the quarterback. Guys might put a sack number
- 7:42Speaker 3: on it, but I think that's where it'll help. I
- 7:45Speaker 3: think the key for this defense, Brian is still though
- 7:50Speaker 3: with this group. I'm not as concerned if they're a
- 7:53Speaker 3: top five defense, but I think they have to remain
- 7:57Speaker 3: a top five turnover creating defense, which they were last year.
- 8:00Speaker 4: I saw a shirt that said think takeaways yeah on
- 8:02Speaker 4: somebody the other day, and that's the key. And I
- 8:04Speaker 4: want to add a name to the pass rush and
- 8:06Speaker 4: it's not Kaylevon Chason. It's Devin Lloyd. He had eight
- 8:09Speaker 4: sacks in his last year at Utah and was the
- 8:11Speaker 4: college Defensive Player of the year. He's a very talented
- 8:14Speaker 4: pass rusher and you can use that strong side linebacker
- 8:17Speaker 4: or whatever they call the position that he eventually plays
- 8:20Speaker 4: and use him in the pass rush as well, so
- 8:22Speaker 4: it gives them the added dimension. I think the key
- 8:25Speaker 4: to this defense this year is the development of those
- 8:27Speaker 4: second year players, those two in particular and Chad Muma
- 8:30Speaker 4: throw him in there because he's a big rangy guy
- 8:33Speaker 4: who can stuff the run and play in coverage as well.
- 8:36Speaker 4: There is a there's a lot of reason for optimism
- 8:39Speaker 4: with the defense.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Top five.
- 8:42Speaker 4: It's like sack numbers are rushing yards. Who cares as
- 8:45Speaker 4: long as you're effective and get the job done.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Conceptually, for this defense and for this franchise, the storyline
- 8:52Speaker 3: that Brian just mentioned, I think is key to the
- 8:55Speaker 3: four or five year arc of this franchise. If you will,
- 8:58Speaker 3: when you draft two front seven players in the first round,
- 9:04Speaker 3: one of the number one overall and then trade up
- 9:06Speaker 3: for the other guy in year two, they are supposed
- 9:10Speaker 3: to be a reason why you're a really good team. Yes,
- 9:13Speaker 3: that's what is on those guys this year.
- 9:15Speaker 1: We'll talk a little more about that coming up, because
- 9:17Speaker 1: obviously a ton of eyes are gonna be on the
- 9:19Speaker 1: defense this coming year. Would you want to give a
- 9:21Speaker 1: little love to the offense? And John you were a
- 9:23Speaker 1: predictor of this as well as Evan Ingram that Garrett
- 9:25Speaker 1: Print's had a great week last week and three touchdown catches.
- 9:28Speaker 6: He's showing out.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Evan Ingram went to bat and said, he's really showed
- 9:32Speaker 1: off so far and he feels like he's a perfect
- 9:34Speaker 1: fit for Doug Peterson's offense.
- 9:37Speaker 9: He's a really talented player. He's a very fluid athlete,
- 9:40Speaker 9: and you know, he's a tight end that is is
- 9:43Speaker 9: you know, made for Doug's offense. So just a growth
- 9:46Speaker 9: I've seen in him, even just him now he's he's
- 9:49Speaker 9: he's coaching up guys in the meeting room, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 9: better than I think I could. So I'm really proud
- 9:54Speaker 9: of the steps he's taken. And he's still got a
- 9:55Speaker 9: lot of work to do, but the opportunity is as
- 9:59Speaker 9: fingertips and I think though, I'm very, very excited about
- 10:02Speaker 9: his future, his potential, you know, playing with him and
- 10:04Speaker 9: you know him being able to learn from me, and
- 10:06Speaker 9: honestly I can probably learn from some things from him too.
- 10:09Speaker 1: We talk a lot about the wide receivers. The tight
- 10:11Speaker 1: end room is pretty talented as well. Brian, is this
- 10:14Speaker 1: going to be a difficult decision when it comes to
- 10:15Speaker 1: cut time?
- 10:16Speaker 10: Uh?
- 10:16Speaker 4: No, they're talented. I don't know that they're that deep, right,
- 10:20Speaker 4: I mean, I think Prince is a guy who, based
- 10:22Speaker 4: on last week, absolutely makes it.
- 10:23Speaker 5: You know a newsflash.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Sometimes when we talk on these shows, words come out
- 10:27Speaker 4: of our mouths and we think, oh, maybe I shouldn't
- 10:29Speaker 4: have said that. So last week we were talking about
- 10:31Speaker 4: Prince and I said, I think he's a terrific prospect.
- 10:33Speaker 4: And then as I thought about it, I thought, look, terrific,
- 10:35Speaker 4: that's probably too strong. And yet he had a terrific
- 10:38Speaker 4: week last week. I mean, he made a couple of plays,
- 10:40Speaker 4: and I thought, all right, I'll live with that. I
- 10:42Speaker 4: do think he's one of those guys that will rise
- 10:46Speaker 4: through this undrafted rookie you know, time on the practice squad.
- 10:50Speaker 4: He's got everything you want. He is tall, he's at
- 10:53Speaker 4: the height, he's long. He appears to have that innate
- 10:56Speaker 4: sense that you want from those those move tight ends
- 10:59Speaker 4: of where to get open. I don't think it'll be
- 11:02Speaker 4: a tough cut. I think that there's plenty of talent
- 11:05Speaker 4: in that room.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Though.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you'll keep four tight ends, and I
- 11:07Speaker 3: think is Prince, Strange, Ferrell and Ingram, so uh, I
- 11:12Speaker 3: don't think it'll be a very hard decision. Uh. In
- 11:15Speaker 3: terms of fifty three, Prince is interesting. There's a limit
- 11:19Speaker 3: to what you can tell in unpadded work, and even
- 11:22Speaker 3: a limit sometimes what you can tell in practice. But
- 11:25Speaker 3: there are some positions that you can tell a lot
- 11:27Speaker 3: and some plays you can tell a lot. Prince was
- 11:30Speaker 3: outstanding last week in short area, the red zone, getting open,
- 11:35Speaker 3: catching balls that on plays that felt real if you will,
- 11:39Speaker 3: you know, and they felt like they could happen in games.
- 11:42Speaker 3: And he had three touchdowns on plays like that, and
- 11:44Speaker 3: they were all from Trevor Lawrence, which says something by
- 11:48Speaker 3: the way, yeah, and so the two can he do
- 11:51Speaker 3: that five times this year?
- 11:53Speaker 4: If he does, you're static. One more thought on him.
- 11:56Speaker 4: He plays bigger than he is. You could just see
- 11:59Speaker 4: the way and again they're not pads, but the way
- 12:01Speaker 4: he used his height and his length as leverage against
- 12:04Speaker 4: smaller defensive backs and then around linebackers to reach and
- 12:07Speaker 4: make plays.
- 12:09Speaker 5: He plays bigger than he is.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I like that. Heated stuff last week that you could
- 12:13Speaker 3: see him doing in games, and that's what you want.
- 12:16Speaker 6: Mordacum.
- 12:16Speaker 1: We'll keep an eye on that, of course, and coming
- 12:18Speaker 1: up we're going to talk a little bit more about
- 12:20Speaker 1: that defense, which players we think are under the most
- 12:22Speaker 1: pressure for the upcoming season. Stay with us jagsam here

- 14:34Speaker 1: you walked up there by the way.
- 14:35Speaker 4: That's beautiful, not just beautiful, but there is a legitimate
- 14:38Speaker 4: effect of those fans. You have the oh yeah, it's
- 14:40Speaker 4: actually shade, and the fans move air through there. So
- 14:43Speaker 4: even on a day where it's dead, calm, and hot.
- 14:47Speaker 4: That's going to be a comfortable place for people to
- 14:48Speaker 4: watch practice.
- 14:49Speaker 1: If you can get tickets, you should come out. There
- 14:51Speaker 1: have been fans lined up every morning I've gotten here
- 14:54Speaker 1: at seven plus am. I saw some people tailgating this
- 14:56Speaker 1: morning in Bortles, Jersey.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Seven plus is at like seven fifty nine or seven
- 15:02Speaker 4: plus is just a little wager room.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a little past seven.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Let's talk about this defense. They're putting the pads on
- 15:08Speaker 1: this week, so hopefully we'll see a little bit more
- 15:10Speaker 1: from them. Everybody's talking about the defense because we compliment
- 15:13Speaker 1: the offense so much. Who are some specific names that
- 15:17Speaker 1: we think will be under pressure this season. We've talked
- 15:19Speaker 1: about it as a whole, but who's in particular players
- 15:22Speaker 1: that you're looking at. They need to have a big
- 15:24Speaker 1: training camp and a big start to the year.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Well, I'll go with Devin Lloyd and I have extolled
- 15:28Speaker 4: the virtues of his talent here since we started the
- 15:31Speaker 4: show back up. And it's not because there's pressure from
- 15:33Speaker 4: the outside right, most of that pressure is on forty four,
- 15:37Speaker 4: but inside the building there is a strong sense of expectation.
- 15:41Speaker 4: They drafted him at the bottom of the first round,
- 15:44Speaker 4: they moved back up into the first round to take
- 15:46Speaker 4: him because he was a sack, strip, fumble, recover, touchdown, interception,
- 15:52Speaker 4: playmaking linebacker. And last year he got off to a
- 15:55Speaker 4: great start, was the Rookie of the Month, defensive Rookie
- 15:58Speaker 4: of the Month in September, and then it fell off.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Teams figured out what he knew, what he didn't and
- 16:03Speaker 4: how to really challenge him, and it took him all
- 16:05Speaker 4: season to find a groove. The expectation and the pressure
- 16:09Speaker 4: is that he gets off to a fast start and
- 16:11Speaker 4: maintains it throughout the course of the season. We talked
- 16:13Speaker 4: about some tweaks to the defense that might put him
- 16:16Speaker 4: in more of a playmaking role. Guaranteed they've done that,
- 16:19Speaker 4: and so he's going to have to step up and
- 16:21Speaker 4: do that because John alluded to it when we were
- 16:24Speaker 4: in the last segment. These are the two guys that
- 16:26Speaker 4: will define your defense for the next era, for the
- 16:29Speaker 4: next five, six, seven years.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Yeah, they should, especially a big time players. I think
- 16:33Speaker 3: Devin's going to be fine because from what everything that
- 16:38Speaker 3: ailed him last year was stuff that should improve from experience.
- 16:44Speaker 3: When he was around the ball, he made the play.
- 16:47Speaker 3: He has tremendous ability once he is in position, the
- 16:52Speaker 3: ball comes to his hands. So he had problems with
- 16:57Speaker 3: some recognition, Payen, etc. So there's no reason to think
- 17:03Speaker 3: that that won't improve because that, by definition, is what
- 17:06Speaker 3: improves with experience. I think he's gonna be fine. I'm
- 17:08Speaker 3: gonna go with Josh Allen, and it's hard because him
- 17:13Speaker 3: and Trayvon are so interchangeable in terms of the pressure
- 17:17Speaker 3: and the expectations. They are the guys that you know,
- 17:20Speaker 3: top ten draft picks supposed to be elite, supposed to
- 17:23Speaker 3: be what you've built around. When you have drafted top
- 17:25Speaker 3: ten players at outside the linebacker, you expect to be
- 17:30Speaker 3: a disruptive, dominant defense. So that's where the pressure is.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Go with Josh a little bit because I think on himself.
- 17:39Speaker 3: You know, I've always thought maybe one of the things
- 17:42Speaker 3: that I hold him back. Whatever he wants it so bad, Brian,
- 17:46Speaker 3: He's he talks about it once it thinks about it,
- 17:50Speaker 3: is willing to talk about with the media. I think
- 17:53Speaker 3: he's a better player than like people give him.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Credit for what didn't he lead the league last year
- 17:58Speaker 4: in effectiveness pass rushes.
- 18:00Speaker 5: He just didn't finish.
- 18:01Speaker 3: That number that everybody wants. It's his sacks is important
- 18:04Speaker 3: in there, but everything else. I've always said he's the
- 18:09Speaker 3: guy when you see the trainers coming out, He's the
- 18:12Speaker 3: one guy on defense that I hope it's not for
- 18:15Speaker 3: the jack sake because I think he's the most irreplaceable player.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Tyson Campbell probably fits that too. But there's pressure on him.
- 18:21Speaker 3: He's a pass rusher, he's a contract year, and he's
- 18:25Speaker 3: going to be judged on sack numbers, fairly or unfairly.
- 18:27Speaker 4: He's a pass rusher, he's a good one. He's going
- 18:30Speaker 4: to get paid, whether it's here or whether it's somewhere
- 18:32Speaker 4: in the league. He's going to get a check.
- 18:34Speaker 5: He knows this.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I don't think he feels the pressure as much except John.
- 18:38Speaker 4: He wanted to be here. Yeah, this is his home.
- 18:41Speaker 5: He fits here.
- 18:42Speaker 4: He and his family have done an amazing job at
- 18:45Speaker 4: getting integrated into this community and people love him, and
- 18:48Speaker 4: he would like it to be here with this team
- 18:50Speaker 4: and this quarterback and this coach, this facility. He wants
- 18:53Speaker 4: it to be here in Northeast Florida. So that's where
- 18:55Speaker 4: the pressure comes from.
- 18:56Speaker 3: And I think what's interesting is we've all covered guy
- 19:00Speaker 3: even at that position, who they get drafted the top
- 19:03Speaker 3: ten and they are busts, Like, Okay, they can't do
- 19:07Speaker 3: it with Josh. You don't watch a guy and think
- 19:10Speaker 3: this guy can't play. He can clearly play and clearly
- 19:14Speaker 3: and it's just that it's almost like that half second.
- 19:18Speaker 3: The difference between being a huge sack guy and not
- 19:22Speaker 3: is is what's frustrating him that he's not quite where
- 19:25Speaker 3: he wants to be. But he Yeah, this time next
- 19:28Speaker 3: year he's going to be incredibly wealthy somewhere.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Jaguarts fans will remember the name Derek Harvey and traded
- 19:33Speaker 4: up into the first into the top ten of the
- 19:35Speaker 4: first round to take him out of Florida. He couldn't
- 19:38Speaker 4: get on the field, and he couldn't get on the field,
- 19:40Speaker 4: and he left after two seasons, complete and total bust.
- 19:44Speaker 4: One hundred and eighty degrees. Opposite of where Josh Allen is.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Alan has been a productive player with the chance to
- 19:50Speaker 4: really become a star.
- 19:51Speaker 5: We hope he does.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna bring up a name we've talked about before,
- 19:54Speaker 1: of course, Trayvon. I think for me, it's not lessarily
- 19:57Speaker 1: the pressure that you know, he has to have a
- 19:59Speaker 1: certain amount of sack or anything like that. I think
- 20:01Speaker 1: it's just with the second year some of his success
- 20:03Speaker 1: we might see in other players. It might be opening
- 20:05Speaker 1: it up so Josh gets sex, you know that just
- 20:07Speaker 1: being able to be a threat and being confident and
- 20:10Speaker 1: staying on the field not getting hurt. I think that's
- 20:13Speaker 1: going to be more of the pressure he puts on himself.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Obviously tons of pressure comes with that number one pick,
- 20:18Speaker 1: but I think a lot for him is just being
- 20:19Speaker 1: able to be comfortable and be.
- 20:21Speaker 6: His best version of that this year.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And I think by him being the best version of himself,
- 20:25Speaker 1: it's going to open things up for everybody else and
- 20:27Speaker 1: it's going to be a team success. If he's a success,
- 20:29Speaker 1: it will be a team success, is how I'm viewing it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I don't know if it's individual numbers. I mean, we've
- 20:34Speaker 1: talked about this a little bit, but for me, it's
- 20:36Speaker 1: more is the defense as a whole going to be
- 20:38Speaker 1: successful this year?
- 20:39Speaker 3: You know, I think Trayvon may always be is that
- 20:43Speaker 3: guy who when you talk to coaches on the other
- 20:47Speaker 3: team's offense, they're always going, man, we had to spend
- 20:51Speaker 3: all week figuring out how to defend this guy. And
- 20:55Speaker 3: I don't know what that's going to mean. In terms
- 20:57Speaker 3: of numbers, but people who watch it and people who
- 21:01Speaker 3: have to plan for it, with his size, with what
- 21:05Speaker 3: he does, with his effort level, I think he's always
- 21:07Speaker 3: going to be a big concern for the opposing offense.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Whether or not fans grasp it because the number one
- 21:12Speaker 3: thing and all the expectations. Maybe not, but I think
- 21:16Speaker 3: the guy is going to be a very productive player
- 21:18Speaker 3: no matter what the numbers.
- 21:19Speaker 4: So I'll go back to former Vikings and Seahawks general
- 21:21Speaker 4: manager Randy Mueller's comments in the story he wrote in
- 21:24Speaker 4: The Athletic on the Athletic website, and that is, if
- 21:28Speaker 4: you have a couple of extra bucks, throw it down
- 21:30Speaker 4: on Trayvon Walker as the defensive player of the year.
- 21:34Speaker 4: He's that talented. There's some pressure that comes with that.
- 21:38Speaker 4: He's ridiculously talented. Everyone tells him that he is, so
- 21:42Speaker 4: he's going to have to figure out a way to
- 21:43Speaker 4: actualize that talent this year. I hope the adjustments to
- 21:47Speaker 4: the defense help him there. I think him the person
- 21:50Speaker 4: will help get him over the top two.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Certainly a good person, we know that much for sure.
- 21:54Speaker 1: All Right, coming up, we're going to go around the
- 21:56Speaker 1: league a little bit, see what's going on elsewhere in
- 21:58Speaker 1: the NFL.

- 24:00Speaker 1: which we know means keep him safe and do not
- 24:03Speaker 1: hurt the franchise by hurting Trevor Lawrence, you.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Get yourself cut.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I need one of those. I need something to wear
- 24:09Speaker 3: where I know people can't hurt me.
- 24:11Speaker 6: Do you want to bubble you too?
- 24:14Speaker 3: I'd like to be unhurt.
- 24:16Speaker 6: We're gonna go around the league a little bit.
- 24:17Speaker 1: We saw some injuries last week, which you never want
- 24:20Speaker 1: to see, especially early on in training camp. Some familiar faces, well,
- 24:23Speaker 1: one familiar face, Jalen Ramsey went down with a knee injury.
- 24:26Speaker 1: He had to undergo surgery. Joe Burrow had a calf
- 24:29Speaker 1: strain injury that they've been dealing with. We did, Brian.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You did speak to coach yesterday and Doug Peterson talked
- 24:37Speaker 1: about how much he thinks about that sort of thing
- 24:40Speaker 1: this time.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Well, you can't let it take your practice time and
- 24:44Speaker 4: make it invaluable.
- 24:45Speaker 5: You've got to get the most out of it, he said.
- 24:46Speaker 4: You've just got to trust that you're playing both, you know,
- 24:49Speaker 4: for practice and with Fergie and the medical training staff
- 24:54Speaker 4: and the doctors. Just got to trust that everything is
- 24:56Speaker 4: as it's supposed to be. It's football. These things happened,
- 24:59Speaker 4: but you know, when you start seeing guys like Joe
- 25:01Speaker 4: Burrow go down, you scratch your head and you know
- 25:04Speaker 4: you don't let this happen to us.
- 25:06Speaker 1: John, I'll consult you only because I know you're around
- 25:09Speaker 1: in the olden days. Do you feel it's been better
- 25:10Speaker 1: since they don't do they don't do two a days anymore,
- 25:14Speaker 1: is it? Have you seen less of it?
- 25:15Speaker 3: Yeah? I think so. I mean over time they have
- 25:18Speaker 3: reduced contact to the point where it had to have
- 25:24Speaker 3: helped intelligently. So because in the salary cap era, you
- 25:28Speaker 3: can't risk getting starters hurt, so coaches have to play
- 25:32Speaker 3: a percentage they have. You know, I think Doug last
- 25:34Speaker 3: year had one practice that was just you know, lights out,
- 25:40Speaker 3: heavy hitting. I was going back and reading some of
- 25:41Speaker 3: the coverage from last year and there was one day
- 25:44Speaker 3: where I think it was Cisco blasted ETN and you know,
- 25:48Speaker 3: it was a big story afterward. Yeah, we like it.
- 25:51Speaker 3: You can't have too many of those, No, And so
- 25:53Speaker 3: they The big thing is just the reduction of preseason
- 25:57Speaker 3: playing time. I think most NFL people would tell you
- 26:02Speaker 3: that it overall has probably not helped or hurt tackling
- 26:08Speaker 3: early in the season, But then once you get into
- 26:12Speaker 3: about week three or week four, there's not that much difference.
- 26:15Speaker 3: But the sacrifice of tackling early for these teams is
- 26:20Speaker 3: worth it. Not to have players hurtain precess so much
- 26:23Speaker 3: you can do.
- 26:24Speaker 4: At twenty fifteen, Derek not Derek Dante Fowler, third pick
- 26:28Speaker 4: in the draft, rookie mini camp, doesn't even get touched
- 26:32Speaker 4: and tears his ACL as he pushes off on a
- 26:35Speaker 4: pass rush. First weekend. He's here in May. Those things
- 26:38Speaker 4: are going to happen to some point. It's just a
- 26:40Speaker 4: reminder that football is a dangerous game and if you
- 26:42Speaker 4: stay healthy, which this team did last year, you're doing
- 26:45Speaker 4: something right and you're getting lucky to.
- 26:47Speaker 3: From a coach, you have to play the long game
- 26:50Speaker 3: every training camp. I'm gonna have eighteen practices. I'm gonna
- 26:53Speaker 3: do it this way at of two or three years.
- 26:56Speaker 3: One of those years, somebody's going to go down in
- 26:58Speaker 3: that because it's physical people moving at a fast pace.
- 27:02Speaker 3: But you can't change your approach beyond what I really
- 27:06Speaker 3: they've done to worry about that.
- 27:08Speaker 6: Guy can't be scared.
- 27:09Speaker 1: But you get to do your best to protect everybody,
- 27:10Speaker 1: and I think everybody's on the same page with regards
- 27:13Speaker 1: to that.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Elsewhere around the.
- 27:14Speaker 1: League, we've got the finalists for the Football Hall of
- 27:18Speaker 1: Fame and obviously Tony Piselli getting in recently. That was
- 27:21Speaker 1: very exciting. And now Tom Coughlin is up. He's one
- 27:24Speaker 1: of the twelve finalists. Brian, I know you were talking
- 27:26Speaker 1: to me about this last week. What does this mean
- 27:29Speaker 1: to the family and do we think this is the
- 27:30Speaker 1: year or is this the first of a couple of years.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Well, obviously it means a lot to the family, especially
- 27:35Speaker 4: with you know, losing Judy last year and what this
- 27:40Speaker 4: would really be a great lift for the Coaughlin family.
- 27:43Speaker 4: And I think they, like most of us who know Tom,
- 27:46Speaker 4: believe that it's not a matter of if, it's just when.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Tom Coauughlin is a Hall of Fame coach, one of
- 27:50Speaker 4: the most successful. He's still the most successful coach in
- 27:53Speaker 4: expansion history, right and then of course the two championships
- 27:56Speaker 4: that he won without being the best team in the
- 27:59Speaker 4: league at the end of the season, and those are
- 28:00Speaker 4: wildcard teams that work their way press one. Yeah, so
- 28:03Speaker 4: he's absolutely getting in and everyone's got their you know,
- 28:06Speaker 4: their fingers crossed and waiting to see what happens with
- 28:10Speaker 4: this thing. And you hope he doesn't have to wait
- 28:12Speaker 4: until his mid eighties like Dick Vermial did, who went
- 28:14Speaker 4: in with Piselli this year.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it'll be sooner than later. I have
- 28:19Speaker 3: no way of predicting what year will be evaguated. Brian,
- 28:21Speaker 3: he's he's a hall of famer. Just based on the giants,
- 28:25Speaker 3: I think he'd be a Hall of famer. And then
- 28:27Speaker 3: when you factor in the first four or five years
- 28:30Speaker 3: of Jacksonville making two AFC Championship games, it's a hall
- 28:34Speaker 3: of fame career. And I'll be glad when it happens.
- 28:37Speaker 3: It'll be deserved Hall of fame person as well as
- 28:39Speaker 3: Hall of fame coach.
- 28:40Speaker 5: You can't go wrong with that.
- 28:41Speaker 1: We'll speak it into existence when not if for him,
- 28:44Speaker 1: hopefully sooner than later. All right, we're taking another peak
- 28:47Speaker 1: at training camp. We're going to get you out there soon,

- 31:07Speaker 4: And there's a lot of new residents in Jacksonville. Over

- 31:16Speaker 5: It's been you know, four years.
- 31:18Speaker 3: And this is the week. I mean, this is in
- 31:21Speaker 3: the past training camp used to be three or four
- 31:24Speaker 3: weeks of a grind. This is really the grind week
- 31:27Speaker 3: for these guys. This is where they're getting better. It's
