- 0:01The external being wants to have a stable basis by which it can
- 0:06understand and act in the world. The tools that support the
- 0:11stable basis include habit. Fix Tendencies, instincts,
- 0:17education, memory. And even the way the mental
- 0:22processes work, comparing new impulses of the senses to past
- 0:27memory to create pattern, recognition and fixed lines of
- 0:32action. Psychologists have even
- 0:36concluded that neural pathways are built that through
- 0:40repetition lead, the understanding down well-worn
- 0:44ways of understanding and acting and which tend to solidify the
- 0:48life into predictable responses. These things provide stability,
- 0:56and are one of the conservative mechanisms that ensure that
- 1:01there is an orderly progression in the life that has a basis.
- 1:04That is solid steady and sure the energy required to overcome
- 1:11this inertia of the external being is quite considerable.
- 1:16Yet progress can only occur when an individual is able to pass
- 1:21beyond the limits of the past ways of knowing and acting.
- 1:27The same thing happens with respect to spiritual
- 1:30experiences, the individual wants to continually repeat the
- 1:35experiences once they have made an impression on him and then
- 1:40goes about classifying organizing and remembering those
- 1:44experiences and uses this mental framework to try to recapture
- 1:51the magic of that past event. In a certain way, this may help
- 1:56during a period of consolidation and fixing the experience into
- 2:00the external workings of the Mind, life and body.
- 2:04But to the extent, it remains fixed their, the individual
- 2:08cannot progress to the next new level of understanding and
- 2:13experience. A devotee inquires quote mother,
- 2:19why is it that the same contemplation does not always
- 2:23produce the same sensation in oneself?
- 2:25That is for example, when one looks at the sea or the stars
- 2:30and thinks of ones in significance.
- 2:33Then there is a particular sensation which is produced
- 2:37within. And then at another time when
- 2:41one wants to have the same experience, even if one thinks
- 2:45about It, why doesn't it recur? And quote, the mother notes.
- 2:54Quote one can never have the same experience twice because
- 2:59one is never the same person twice between the first
- 3:03experience on the second. Even if one hour has passed, you
- 3:08are no longer the same man and you can never reproduce
- 3:12identically the same thing. If you take care to become more
- 3:17conscious, more sincere, more concentrated, the experience you
- 3:23have will be different, but it may be deeper and more.
- 3:27Clear, but if you cling to something, you have had and want
- 3:32to reproduce the same thing, you will have nothing at all because
- 3:36you can't have the same thing and you are in a state in which
- 3:40you refuse to have a new experience for you are at
- 3:45Attached to the past one. And usually when one has had an
- 3:50experience which was a revelation, something
- 3:53altogether, important one doesn't want to leave it.
- 3:57One is afraid of not having it any longer.
- 4:00And so, in this movement of clinging onto something when
- 4:04prevents oneself from progressing and puts oneself in
- 4:08conditions in which one can't have the next experience, Well,
- 4:15this has to be understood because it is an absolute Fact.
- 4:19One can never have the same experience twice.
- 4:23There may be similar experiences, very close and
- 4:28particularly some which appear similar, but these experiences,
- 4:35if one is absolutely sincere impartial and like a blank page.
- 4:41You will perceive that there is a difference, sometimes an
- 4:45essential one. Between the two though in
- 4:48appearance, they seem very close but the more ready you are to
- 4:53leave behind all that you have experienced in order to be able
- 4:58to go towards something better and higher.
- 5:01The faster you will go. The more you drag the heavy
- 5:05weight of all the past which you don't want to get rid of the
- 5:09slower. Is your Vance.
- 5:13All the past, should always be simply like a stepping stone or
- 5:16a ladder, something to lead you farther, it should not have any
- 5:21other use except to push you forward and if you can feel this
- 5:27and always turn your back on what is past and look at what
- 5:31you want to do. Then you go much faster, you
- 5:35don't waste time on the way. What makes you lose time, as
- 5:40always this clinging, to what has been to, what is, what
- 5:46seemed to you beautiful and good in.
- 5:49What is past. This must only help you.
- 5:53You must not reject it, but it must help you to go forward.
- 5:58It must simply be something on which you lean to take a step
- 6:02forward. And quote, reference SRI
